Must be kismet - chapter 2/?
A celebrity au where Ava is a football player for Arsenal and Beatrice is a famous pop star — loosely inspired by Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s meet-cute.
Being back in Lisbon was always strange for Ava.
Don’t get her wrong – it wasn’t that she didn’t like visiting her hometown.
She loved being surrounded by tiny bakeries selling fresh pastel de natas. She loved watching the old men chat and argue in Portuguese over a game of cards in the local bar. She loved nothing more than walking through the city with the familiar sound of fado music echoing through the narrow cobblestone streets.
No, it always felt weird being here because the place had a habit of bringing up past memories. Memories that involved her mother and the life they shared together before the accident. The same accident that had left Ava heartbroken, orphaned and nearly paralyzed forever.
Lisbon was sometimes a painful reminder of the life that she could never have – one where her mom was alive and in the stands at the Emirates Stadium, cheering Ava on after every match.
But now, as she sat waiting in a small restaurant in Bairro Alto with the smell of sardinas assadas lingering in the air, the only emotion she could feel was nerves.
Ava liked to think that she was pretty damn good at dealing with high-pressure situations. Take earlier for example, when she played against Benefica and totally kicked their ass in their own backyard.
Less than two hours ago Ava had held her nerve, stepped up to the spot and scored a penalty in front of thousands of people. A penalty that won Arsenal the match, securing her team’s place in the semi-finals of the women’s Champions League.
Sure, she’d felt the usual flutter of nerves in her stomach that always came anytime she played to an audience.
But right now?
This was different - i t was like the butterflies were hosting a fucking rave in her belly.
And it was all because of Beatrice.
Yep, waiting for one of the biggest pop stars in the world to join her for an al-fresco dinner in this tiny Portuguese trattoria had Ava totally knocked for six.
She really wanted this to go well, so naturally the self-doubt had started to creep in.

Pastéis de Nata (Portuguese Custard Tarts)
I've always wanted to eat a Pastel de Nata, and I always thought I would when visiting Portugal. But I haven't been there yet, and I reckon Os Lobos (The Wolves) winning their first ever World Cup game Sunday night is cause for celebration (especially as there was only a point in it; and Fiji also qualified for the quarter-finals!) It was a beaut game, I thought the Portuguese couldn't hold that level of intensity for 80 minutes and they did! They even scored that winning try when the Fijians were finally flying again and had taken back momentum. Talk about going out with a bang! It deserved some effort on my part, so I made puff pastry and baked these beautifully flaky, delightfully fragrant and creamy Pastéis de Nata! And do they go down a treat, indeed! Happy Tuesday!
Ingredients (makes 8):
a small lemon
a cinnamon stick
1/3 cup caster sugar
2/3 cups water
300 grams/10.5 ounces Rough Puff Pastry
a little ice cold water
2 level tablespoons plain flour
1 cup semi-skimmed milk
1 teaspoon Homemade Vanilla Extract
2 large egg yolks
Cut three wide, thin strips of lemon zest, and add to a small saucepan, along with cinnamon stick and sugar. Stir in water, and bring to the boil over medium-high heat. Once the sugar is completely dissolved, boil rapidly for about 3 or 4 minutes, until syrup just thickens. Remove from the heat, and allow to cool and infuse. Set aside.
On a lightly floured surface, roll Rough Puff Pastry into a large rectangle, but thick enough.
Brush Puff Pastry rectangle lightly with ice water, and roll tightly, horizontally, to form a sort of "sausage". Wrap in cling film, and chill in the refrigerator.
Spoon flour in a medium saucepan. Gradually whisk in a little of the milk to combine well. Then, whisk in the rest of the milk.
Heat over a medium flame, whisking constantly until mixture thickens, like a smooth Béchamel sauce. Remove from the heat, and stir in Vanilla Extract.
Strain in cooled lemon and cinnamon syrup, gradually whisking it in until well-blended. Set aside, to cool.
Preheat oven to 240°C/465°F.
Generously butter 8 cups of a muffin tin. Set aside.
Remove Rough Puff Pastry "sausage" from the refrigerator, and cut into 2,5cm/1" chunks. Working with one round Pastry chunk at a time, flatten with your thumbs into a muffin cup, easing onto the edges of the cup with your fingers to form a cup. Repeat with remaining Pastry chunks. Return to the refrigerator, 10 minutes.
Once the lemon and cinnamon cream has cooled, whisk in the egg yolks, one at a time until well-blended.
Retrieve muffin tin from the refrigerator, and fill each Pastry case with about two heaped tablespoons of the lemon and cinnamon custard (about three-quarters, as they will puff up when cooking).
Place muffin tin in the middle of the hot oven, and bake, at 240°C/465°F, 15 minutes, until puffed up and golden brown. Remove from the oven, and allow to cool, 10 minutes, before lifting the pastéis out of the tin.
Serve Pastéis de Nata warm, plain, or sprinkled with cinnamon like they do in Lisbon!
Portugal defeats Fiji (24-23), their first ever World Cup victory, Sunday 8th October, 2023, Toulouse, France

/* She HATES HER. She NEVER WANTS TO SEE HER AGA—
No, of course not. Gladiia loves Hinata.
She's gotten much closer to her in a much shorter time than she has...really, anyone else. If that's not an expression of character growth, I don't know what is. It's taken a lot of self-reflection to get us here, but here we are.
The only person she's ever had such an intimate relationship with is Laurentina. She hasn't known her as long as she's known Kal'tsit, and certainly not as long as she's known Laurentina. A handful of weeks, no matter how precious, can't outweigh eight years of companionship between a lonely woman and the first person to ever show her love. But Gladiia isn't weighing these relationships comparatively. She's not scoring the strength of their relationship as a fraction of that between her and Shark.
And they have about as close and as intimate a relationship as people can get in such a short time. That means so very much to her. They're learning more and more about each other. They're coming to understand each other. It's still very much a honeymoon right now, but Gladiia isn't exactly in the business of being a fairweather friend. Nata is beautiful, kind, and a lovely artist. She's shared with her the most precious moments of wonder and bliss, and Gladiia doesn't intend to let that go. */

Why NATA Coaching is Essential for Aspiring Architects
The journey to becoming a successful architect starts with cracking the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). As a mandatory entrance exam for admissions to architecture programs in India, NATA assesses a candidate's aptitude for architecture, including drawing skills, observation abilities, sense of proportion, critical thinking, and mathematics. Due to the highly competitive nature of the exam, many students are turning to NATA coaching to boost their chances of success. In this blog, we’ll explore why NATA coaching is essential for aspiring architects and how it can help candidates achieve their dream of studying architecture.
1. Structured Study Plan and Comprehensive Syllabus Coverage
One of the primary benefits of NATA coaching is the availability of a structured study plan. The NATA syllabus covers a range of topics, including drawing, mathematics, general aptitude, and cognitive skills. A professional coaching center ensures that all these topics are covered systematically, leaving no gaps in a student’s preparation.
Why It Matters:
Coaching institutes follow a well-defined schedule that helps students manage their time efficiently.
They break down complex topics into smaller, manageable segments, ensuring comprehensive understanding.
Coaching ensures a balanced focus on all aspects of the exam, allowing students to avoid overemphasis on some sections while neglecting others.
2. Expert Guidance and Faculty Support
NATA coaching centers are staffed with experienced faculty members who specialize in various aspects of the exam. These experts provide valuable insights, tips, and tricks that can help students tackle different sections of the exam more effectively.
Benefits of Expert Faculty:
They have a deep understanding of the NATA exam pattern and can provide targeted guidance to maximize scores.
Faculty members can help students identify and work on their weak areas.
They offer personalized feedback on drawing assignments and mock tests, helping students improve their techniques.
3. Access to High-Quality Study Material and Resources
Coaching institutes provide access to high-quality study material that is tailored specifically for NATA preparation. These resources are carefully curated to cover all essential topics, including the latest updates in the NATA syllabus and exam pattern.
Advantages of Specialized Study Material:
Coaching centers offer updated materials, including mock tests, previous year question papers, and reference books.
The study material is designed to enhance students' understanding and problem-solving skills.
It includes a variety of drawing exercises and math problems, helping students practice different types of questions.
4. Regular Mock Tests and Performance Analysis
Mock tests are an essential component of NATA preparation, as they help students get familiar with the exam format and assess their readiness. Coaching centers conduct regular mock tests and provide detailed performance analysis to help students identify areas for improvement.
How Mock Tests Help:
Mock exams simulate the actual NATA experience, helping students build exam-day confidence.
Performance analysis helps in tracking progress and fine-tuning the preparation strategy.
Regular testing enhances time management skills, enabling students to complete the exam within the allotted time.
5. Improvement in Drawing and Visualization Skills
Drawing is a critical component of the NATA exam, and coaching centers place a strong emphasis on developing students' drawing skills. Through various drawing exercises, students learn techniques to improve their sketches, perspectives, and visualizations.
Benefits of Drawing Practice in Coaching:
Coaching centers teach students techniques for shading, rendering, and sketching with accuracy.
They offer guidance on different types of perspective drawings, including one-point, two-point, and three-point perspectives.
Regular practice under expert supervision helps students develop the ability to visualize objects and scenes better.
6. Increased Motivation and Discipline
The competitive atmosphere of a coaching center motivates students to push their limits and stay disciplined throughout their preparation. The regularity of classes and structured timetable helps students maintain a steady pace in their studies.
Why Motivation and Discipline Matter:
The coaching environment encourages students to strive for excellence by constantly engaging them in learning.
A disciplined approach helps students manage their time better, balancing NATA preparation with other academic commitments.
The encouragement from peers and faculty members keeps students motivated, especially during challenging phases of preparation.
7. Access to a Peer Learning Environment
Coaching centers offer an opportunity to interact with fellow NATA aspirants. Learning in a group setting helps students understand different perspectives and share insights on various topics.
Benefits of Peer Learning:
Engaging with peers allows for healthy competition, which can drive students to perform better.
Group study sessions can help clarify doubts, as students can discuss difficult topics together.
Peer learning fosters an environment of collaboration, which can be beneficial when working on complex drawing assignments.
8. Specialized Techniques for Aptitude and Mathematics Sections
The aptitude and mathematics sections of the NATA exam require specific problem-solving skills and techniques. Coaching centers focus on teaching these techniques to help students score well in these areas.
Why Specialized Techniques Are Important:
Coaching institutes cover important mathematical concepts and shortcuts for quicker problem-solving.
They provide strategies for solving aptitude questions, including spatial reasoning and logical deduction.
Regular practice of these techniques improves accuracy and boosts students' confidence in tackling challenging questions.
9. Regular Feedback and Doubt Clearing Sessions
Personalized feedback is crucial for improvement, and coaching centers provide regular feedback on students’ performance. Doubt-clearing sessions ensure that no questions remain unanswered and that students fully understand the concepts.
Advantages of Regular Feedback:
Feedback on mock tests and drawing assignments helps students pinpoint areas that need more attention.
Doubt-clearing sessions enable students to overcome specific challenges and build a stronger understanding of concepts.
These sessions allow for one-on-one interaction with faculty members, making the learning process more personalized.
10. Better Exam Strategy and Stress Management
NATA coaching centers teach students how to formulate an effective exam strategy, including time management, prioritizing sections, and handling exam stress. These strategies are vital for performing well on exam day.
How Exam Strategy and Stress Management Help:
Students learn how to allocate time effectively to each section, avoiding last-minute rushes.
Coaching centers teach relaxation techniques that help reduce anxiety during the exam.
Developing a clear strategy for each section improves overall efficiency and increases the chances of achieving a high score.
Conclusion
NATA coaching is not just about studying hard; it's about studying smart. With expert guidance, structured preparation, and access to quality resources, students can significantly improve their chances of cracking the NATA exam on their first attempt. The benefits of coaching extend beyond exam preparation, as they also lay the foundation for a successful architecture career by developing essential skills and providing a deeper understanding of architectural concepts.
For aspiring architects, NATA coaching Ludhiana offers the right mix of motivation, discipline, and expertise to navigate the challenges of the exam and emerge victorious. So, if you're serious about your dream of becoming an architect, investing in NATA coaching could be your key to success.

hey!
remember when i said i was doing a Silly Drinks Journal for my new resolution? well, here's part 1 of 12!
Somehow, I scoured every store in town to find over fifty varied drinks to review. Specifically 52, with an average score of 6.4 and a median score of 7, y'nerds. Note that
I'm in the UK
only 4 of the drinks which were alcoholic, because while I am now a flavourslut, getting drunk is Not Worth The Cost imo
these were all bought by just walking around every store I could get to in town!
Here's the drinks plotted by date and score:
Click below for the drinks. (Spoilers: I'm a little unfair on kvass.)
The worst drink, with a score of 1/10, was carbonated kvass. Look… I'm really sorry to Latvia. I really wanted to like it. On paper, rye juice is awesome. In practice, three sips was all I could tolerate before I physically couldn't drink more. I'm so sorry I can't appreciate you kvass :<
Thankfully on the next day I got one of the top-scoring drinks: botanical lemonade! It was crisp, lemony and tart. Also scoring 9/10 were:
'Tropical Orange' energy drink (Hough the taste of peach is lovely)
Local fruit farm apple & mango juice! It was a little thick, but a gorgeous combo. Literally just pressed fruit in a bottle! Local sure is best.
Vanilla milk. I mean. It's vanilla milk. Duh
I bought strawberry milk too, but sadly (2/10) had to get rid of it because it was sickly. Speaking of… I bought a 4-pack of CBD drinks. One, raspberry and guava, managed to peak to 6/10, but the rest were brought down by this horrid metallic tang, with glowing reviews like "Ugh. What? 3/10" and "I feel like I'm drinking the aluminium from the can. 2/10". Not very relaxing at all, itseems.
Some 8/10 drinks included:
two energy drinks – Cherry and Mango Loco. I really wish these were in energy-less form, they are too dang tasty.
Cream soda! It tastes just like ice cream (and goes well with it too.)
A drink flavoured like the classic Fruit Salad sweets… raspberry and pineapple is a nice contrast!
A gorgeous Łowidz Truskawka (strawberry syrup). A little sweet because, but a pretty classic taste in a very lovely thin bottle!
Rounding off the list with curious (but sadly mid) drinks:
Tomato juice! A solid 4/10. I wrote that it "tastes like I'm in the wrong context" (i.e. cooking passata).
Nestle and rosehip kombucha: my partner described it as tasting like a "petting zoo". Curious, but very… earthy. Surprisingly still a 4/10 (sorry kvass)
Lychee-flavoured drink with Nata de Coco: I really, really, really love lychee, but for some reason it didn't really vibe 100%. The tiny gel cubes of coconut milk gives it a bubble tea-like quality, which stopped me drinking too fast and helped me savour the flavour. And, eh, maybe I was harsh but I think bubble tea and lychee are like ice cream and chocolate to me: beautiful flavours that sadly don't really go well together. 7/10
Pomegranate juice! "It's like cranberry but it tastes of purple. Not bad!" I have no idea what I meant by this, but I stand by it nevertheless. 7/10
Ginger shots and (nonalcoholic) ginger beer! Keh… it's like fire in my throat… Both got 4/10.
I'm pretty sure I've bought every interesting-looking drink I could in town! Thankfully of course there is a wide variety of sites online, and when I pass by cities I can just Buy A Shit Ton of Drinks. Especially from the asian supermarkets! There are none in this town, which is a huge shame.
As it turns out, variety is the spice of life, and while some of these drinks were horrendous, most of them were really rather gorgeous, and it was lovely to get to try them all out. Also I'm really sorry to kvass again. I wish I could drink you, kvass. Will you forgive me?
See you in February!
#mia's silly drinks journal#i completely failed in my other plan this month (come up with a career/phd plan after my postgrad) but heck yeah this IS an achievement#and i totally enjoyed it. so many flavours. such variety! so much tooth decay#hopefully as the year comes along i can brew myself up some tarkhun from my tarragon and see how that tastes >:D
