so I've managed to make three 35+ year-olds watch Naruto, hoping they would join my obkk obsession. BUT, one turned into an Itachi fan and Kaguya supporter, the other is now into Boruto series, and my most recent recruit is falling for Shikamaru and Temari. Madara knew his eyebrows were twitching crazily for the last few minutes. He knew without looking that the Elders and Izuna had been eyeing him skeptically for at least close to an hour now. He gritted his teeth and endured their pointed stares. He didn't want to ruin this joyous day with his temper flaring.

" He looks very beautiful. Just like you my Wife. I am pleased to know we have another Omega in the family. " he gently cup his beloved Wife's blushing cheeks. He knew his Omega is quite please at his praise. It almost made Madara forgot the pointed stares at his back.

" Aren't you gonna greet your nephews, Izuna?. " Tobirama confusedly ask his Brother in law. He gently rock the twin babes in his arms who started to fuss about.

Madara nearly snarled, because the face his brother is wearing is starting to make his Wife anxious.

" Don't worry. I find that he's very very cute, Tobira. I'm just disappointed that it took at least four children before you gave birth to him. " Izuna answered with a loud disappointed sigh...

Tobirama stares; utterly confused at what his Brother in Law is talking about.

" What do you mean by th— " Tobirama didn't even finished his question because his Husband had managed to tackle his brother and had proceeded to violently kick him out of their private rooms.

The Uchiha Elders only shook their heads and muttered amongst themselves. Even with their hurried leaving, they managed to respectfully says their wishes and greetings to their Matriarch.

Tobirama blinks confusedly at the retreating Elders. He turns to Hikaku. The man looked like he's the only one who still had his sanity intact.

" What was that all about, Hikaku–san?. " he asked his friend.

Hikaku scratches his cheek in embarrassment.

" Well, the short explanation is...the Uchiha had a superstition that when an Omega birthed a child that looks like them; it means he/she had enjoyed the sex far more than their Alpha or Beta Mate. "

Tobirama looked stump. He looked down at his youngest child who definitely resembles him a lot. From his skin coloring and to the pale tuft of hair on his head. He really looked like a mini clone of him. The largest difference is...his youngest had the typical black eyes of an Uchiha.

" Surely, you're joking?. " Tobirama felt feint at that insinuation. But Hikaku's embarrassed look and avoidance of his eyes tells him the man is telling the truth.

A new report on biodiversity in the Western Balkans published on Thursday by the German EuroNatur Foundation, a nature conservation organisation, highlights the need for urgent action to conserve threatened natural habitats.

The report highlights areas where the natural habitat is under threat and animal species in need of conservation in Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia and Serbia.

Albania’s Vjose-Narte region, renowned for its birdlife and wetlands, faces severe threats from the construction of the Vlora International Airport, it notes. Over 200 bird species, including the rare Dalmatian Pelican and Greater Flamingo, rely on the habitat there. 

The government’s redefinition of protected areas to facilitate the airport project has excluded 310 hectares of crucial habitat in the south of the country, alarming conservationists. 

“The construction of the Vlora International Airport, part of a sweeping vision to transform this biodiverse haven into a hub of tourism and infrastructure, threatens to mute the lagoon’s vibrant voice,” the report warns.

The report also focuses on the vast karst field of Livanjsko Polje in Bosnia and Herzegovina, a Ramsar site and Important Bird Area, which remains unprotected at national level. Ramsar Sites are wetlands of international importance designated under the Ramsar Convention.

Seasonal flooding supports diverse habitats and agriculture but unregulated water management, peat extraction and inadequate legal frameworks threaten its future.

Efforts to declare Livanjsko Polje a protected area have stalled, reflecting governance challenges in Bosnia and its fragmented environmental policies.

Montenegro’s Ulcinj Salina, once a thriving salt production site, is another battleground for conservation noted in the report. Recognised as a candidate for the Emerald Network, the area supports over 250 bird species but privatisation and neglect have degraded its ecosystems. 

The report emphasises “a struggle, pitting traditional livelihoods and environmental conservation against closed economic interests, leaving an entire ecosystem and the local community at a crossroads”.

Salina was designated a Nature Park in 2019 but a formal management body has yet to be established, hindering restoration efforts.

The Adriatic Flyway, a critical bird migration route, is under siege from illegal bird killings, particularly in Serbia, the report says. Up to 163,000 birds, including quails and raptors, are killed each year, disrupting ecological balances. Weak law enforcement exacerbates the issue, undermining Serbia’s compliance with international conservation agreements.

The report also emphasises the grave danger facing the Balkan lynx, one of Europe’s most endangered large carnivores, which inhabits the forests and mountains of the Western Balkans, including North Macedonia, Albania, and Kosovo. 

With fewer than 40 lynx remaining in the wild, this wild cat faces extinction. Its survival is a critical conservation priority, not only as a keystone species but also as a barometer of the region’s environmental health​

The report calls for enhanced legal frameworks, stricter enforcement of conservation laws, and greater community involvement. Recommendations include restoring damaged habitats, integrating local economies with biodiversity goals, and aligning national policies with EU environmental standards.

Notes for Chapter 10 of To Be a Kunoichi

Formats were made to be broken, as I did with this chapter.

After this arc, things will look up, at least for a bit (about two and a half years of very relative happiness). We have one more chapter to go.

As I said, formats are made to be broken. No scene breaks, no present scenes set in this chapter. It's supposed to feel long, arduous, and afford the reader no tonal or time breaks.

The past scenes are largely Naruto remembering what happened, hence the unreliable narration. The absence of scenes in the present is meant to suggest that this isn't something she ever thinks on or recalls if she can help it.

I fucked up a bit, and wanted to end the last chapter on an action note (the explosions) and then went back to my outline and went "oh no, this solitary confinement chapter is going to necessitate a minor timeskip in order to achieve the vibe I want". I think it adds to the floaty, unconnected vibe I was going for - it doesn't matter how she got here, there's nothing happening beyond those four walls for her.

Naruto isn't ever going to have this confirmed in the fic, but the cell's previous occupant was Kushina. Something something something intergenerational cycles of violence.

I actually can't believe it took nearly 35k words for Kks to tell her his name. That's a novella. Soon this project I started on a whim while bored will be novel length.

Notice how Kakashi manages to do something emotionally genuine only when there's three inches of steel between them. He probably finds it easier to talk to her when he can't actually see her, the way the Supernatural brothers can only have emotionally honest conversations when Not Looking At Each Other while they're driving their car.

Without her own boosted healing (+ the kyuubi's boost) Nart really struggles to gauge how much she's hurting herself. She doesn't pay attention to pain because it normally doesn't matter - but in this cell, her chakra is suppressed and she's not healing as she normally does.

I'm fond of portrayals of jinchuriki that emphasize the body horror/supernatural elements of having a demon sealed in you: this won't ever come up in the story, because Nart has no reason to know it, but her eyes reflect light like a real fox's. It's very unnerving for all her teammates, but they are all too polite to say anything. Similarly, her hair grows insanely fast, also slightly unnerving for people who saw her with a bob a couple months ago and now her hair is like a foot longer. There's just a lot of little things that add up to make her a little uncanny.

Naruto relies on her chakra sensing A LOT. Without it, everyone around her seems like a lifeless puppet/corpse, it's very scary for her. In fanfiction, often any old shinobi can identify people (at least, people they know well) by chakra signature, or sense shinobi who are close by. In canon this isn't the case at all - people can sense when large amounts of chakra are used in jutsu, and can sense really powerful/malevolent beings like Orochimaru or Kurama, but identifying individual signatures/knowing when shinobi are nearby is a rare skill.

Really loved to hear your thoughts! I always love reading your posts about the sand sibs, and I wanted to thank you for not getting angry. Writing this, I was kinda scared someone would get offended, but it's my opinion at the end of the day.

Yeah, this arc could've been better, and it makes sense for Temari to be sent on guard duty because Suna was weakened, and at the moment, she was literally their strongest shinobi. She really would've benefited from some things: 1- Show us the actual diplomatic shinobi stuff she's doing in the Leaf. Not just the scene of her with Maru and Nart asking them if they're dating. 2- Let her attend that council meeting with Kankuro. 3- Show us, even if just a scene, of her on guard duty, like commanding lower ranked shinobi to show her leadership skills. I can also understand her, snapping at Kankuro and Naruto like that. Looking at it, it must've been pure adrenaline mixed with serotonin blurring her thoughts. After all, she'd just lost her baby brother and got him back, all in the span of a few days. It makes sense she'd be soooo emotional, excited, happy, and terrified at the same time she'd just start snapping at everyone. That's actually a very humane reaction.

I actually really liked Kankuro's fight vs. Sasori in the anime. Sasori actually praised his skill. Kankuro just stood no chance because 1- He was only like 17 years old? While Sasori is in his 30s, the experience gap between them is big. And 2- obviously, he was going against the man who made his puppets, lol. The fact he managed to catch Sasori off-guard while losing consciousness (so his vision must've been blurry too) and yet he managed to get a piece of Sasori's cape, which earned him Kakashi's praise too. I'll never forget Kakas' words to him: "managed to make a victory out of a failure. A true Suna shinobi. " it just shows how skilled Kank is.

Regarding Gaara, his fight with Deidara was awesome. Deidara managed to win by 1- incrusting some of his miniature sand bombs into Gaara's sand shield, making it explode in his face and 2- obviously forcing Gaara to choose the village over his own safety. Which made Gaara lower his defenses and made it easier to finish him. I think that even while he was unconscious, getting Shukaku extracted, he still had fantasies/memories of Naruto. Which is also something that makes me go: "hmmmm." Because I also can't help but wonder: "Kishimoto, are you seriously telling me that while he was dying, Gaara had 0 thoughts or memories of his sibs? He doesn't think of them a single time, which also kinda bothers me cause it makes no sense. Kankuro almost died for him, and he had a whole flashback scene of the moment Gaara confessed he wanted to become Kage. But does Gaara think of either of them while dying? Nope, it's only Naruto.

All in all, this arc could've been better by making this arc that's supposed to be about the sand sibs, actually be about them. Especially if we take into account that after this arc, we wouldn't see them again until the Kage summit arc (when Tobi/Obito declared the war). They really deserved better.

I don't mean to offend anyone with this because I'm just speaking my mind. It's something I've noticed and that I find curious to say the least. It's concerning the sand sibs and their first appearance in Shippuden; you know, the arc where Gaara is kidnapped by Akatsuki and loses his tailed beast.

When talking about this arc or discussing anything concerning it, especially the developing bond between the sand sibs after Gaara became Kazekage. Fans always say that both Kankuro and Temari did their best to try and rescue Gaara and that a big chunk of the arc features them trying to get their brother back, which is not true. First of all, for some reason, Kishimoto completely sidelined the sand sibs in this arc. They don't do much. Gaara has one fight vs. Deidara and he spends the rest of the arc dead, literally. Kankuro chases after Sasori, but the actual details of their fight are anime only. They're not shown in the manga. Most of the focus is on team 7, and I can kinda appreciate giving Sakura some spotlight where she's not obsessing over Sasuke and actually gets shit done.

Second of all, Temari literally does nothing the whole arc. I think, if I remember correctly, we're only shown the scenes of her in the Leaf walking around with Shikamaru. Initially, we're not even told what she's there for exactly, cause it's not till much later on we're told she was there on a diplomatic mission preparing for the next chunin exams. This led some fans to assume she was there just to go on a date with Shikamaru. Which is hilarious to even reach that conclusion when 1- By the beginnings of Shippuden, Shikamaru would've been 15-16 while Temari was 18-19. I'm not accusing Tem of preying on a teen, mind you. I just find it interesting? Some fans would seriously believe they'd be dating at that point. And 2- also so funny when in the anime they showed the contrast in scenes between Suna going to Hell with Deidara's attack while Temari is just..... chilling in Konoha, completely unknowing of the situation. And when she's there, she's not allowed to help in any way. I think she's sent on guard duty? Then, she joined a group composed by her, Kankuro, Matsuri (Gaara's crazy fangirl), and Chiyo's brother (the old man with huge eyebrows) to go after Gaara and team 7. Which is crazy that she wasn't even allowed to join the council meeting with Kankuro. Like, why was the previously dying man allowed to join but not her?

All this is why I can't help but frown and lift my eyebrows every time I see people giving her as much credit as Kankuro. Yeah, the details of Kanks fight vs. Sasori are anime only, but the outcome was one and the same: he got something from that confrontation. The piece of Sasori's cape he got is the only clue that helped team 7 find the Akatsuki hideout in the desert and rescue Gaara. Temari was also so rude, shit-talking Kankuro when he first called her from guard duty, and then berating both Kankuro and Naruto when they showed concern for Gaara when she was doing the same thing.

I don't know. This is one of my favorite arcs, but it's also the first arc that made me start thinking Temari is not as useful as everyone believes she is, and she's given way too much credit, while Kankuro's feats go largely underappreciated. It's also what made her my least favorite of the sand sibs. I don't hate her cause she did nothing to deserve the hate. She's not that bad and comparatively one of the most decent female characters in Naruto. She's just kinda overrated for such a minor character who does so little, and yet people keep insisting and claiming she's better-written and more useful than Kank when that's not the case.

There's a lot of Nart fanfic where Amaterasu and sometimes other Shinto gods are real, and it always gives me kind of an odd vibe. It's usually the same script where the gods are angry at the Sage for something something fate ruined everything yadda yadda bad parenting.

It gives me an odd vibe because Nart lore always gave me the opposite impression, in that cosmic sense. The inmates are running the asylum. The Sage is the biggest dick on campus, but he doesn't run the universe in the cosmic sense either; he just sees a lot. Nobody is driving the bus. Everyone's on their own.

It gives me a similar kinda frenetic energy as stuff like the Pern series, where the myths and histories we're familiar with are apocryphal cargo cults. Seat-of-the-pants making-this-up-as-I-go bullshitting. Fits with how Kaguya was never intended as a goddess, either, and merely ended up amassing power as a means to escape her fate as a sacrifice. There were never gods, just people strong enough to make others believe that.

If there were ever any gods in Narutoland, they're long dead and everyone involved is merely propping up their chosen corpse.

They mean sooooooo much to me. Sasuke was one of my big top faves when I first watched Nart as a kid, and Kakashi is my fave now. Their awkward, tentative teacher & student / father & son thing just strikes me RIGHT in the chest. Every single moment they share together hits me like a fucking freight train.

They're both mega!traumatised and deal with it badly. They both don't get nearly as much support as they should. They both have a veeeeery complex and interesting relationship with Konoha - and with each other!

I love how Kakashi sees himself in Sasuke and tries to help him out of his own dark place, as Kakashi's own friends managed (eventually) to help him. I love that he fails - in part because circumstance constantly dragged him away on missions while Sasuke was most vulnerable, in part because Kakashi is still just.... not that good at emotionally connecting with people, in part because Sasuke is depicted as a character with agency who makes his own choices and chose revenge despite clearly feeling close bonds to Team Seven. And that failure haunts Kakashi. He's pretty much the only adult in Konoha who's shown to consistently give a shit about Sasuke, but he still didn't do enough to reach for him, for a whole variety of reasons - AND HE FUCKING KNOWS IT.

He is more than willing to die for Sasuke. Even after Sasuke tries to kill him multiple times. Even after Sasuke leaves him and Sakura for dead in the lava world.
