#After over 2 decade this is now added information on her family#That so depressing that her family basically replaced her with the new healthy child#Cannot tell if in hindsight they would have done that if Maria was w them n still lived w them they would have neglected her#Or if she died the new child would have immediately been her replacement of what could have been#But there no way to tell since Gerald was the one to take her n keep her despite her family going like 'either cure her or give her back'#Omg what a shitty situation for a child to be in#N it also understandable why every other family that wasnt Maria n grandpa would not look fondly at her#Since it seems like Gerald was obsessed w her especially after finding out her illness#I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up ignoring everybody that wasn't her in family wise#N why he was so hell bent on hoping shadow would be her friend then when finding out she died he crashed out#UFG#the ark story will always be a top in term of seriousness in the silly ways of the characters#Oml#I WOULD HAVE OBESS W THIS AS A CHILD TBH#I HAD AN OC (as a child) THAT WAS LIKE GIVING MARIA A YOUNGER SIS N NOW THAT CANON??#Insane oml#N she should be alive too? Given it 50+#Oh Maria robotnik the tragedy that u r#Idk if I'm the biggest fan of expanding stuff on a preorder item so that it not as accessible#Or the fact Maria family has been expanded but we will never know of them but whatever ig that a more me thing#Not liking characters having relatives n then never knowing what they look like

Love in Verses (XXIII)
Chapter 23 : ‘Even the dearest that I loved the best are strange – nay, rather, stranger than the rest’
Hi! Here is a new chapter! One of my favs, to be honest, it’s one of the first chapters I wrote for this fic, so it had a special place in my heart.
Also, Saoirse and Sean are back! I’m also making a reference to a documentary in this chapter, I was thinking about Brainwashed directed by Nina Menkes, you can check it out if you’d like!
I hope you like this chapter! Tell me what you think!
****
Pairing: Hozier x fem!reader (professor!AU)
Warnings: slow burn, angst, hurt, hurt/comfort, tooth-rotting fluff in later chapters, some scenes in later chapters will have heavy sexual themes even if it’s not explicit nsfw description, so minors here
Summary: Your life seems perfect. You're engaged, your career is thriving as you become an assistant professor at Trinity College, and this Andrew Hozier-Byrne you're sharing an office with seems to be a nice guy you hope to call a friend soon. Life seems to be smiling at you... until everything goes sour. When your fiancé breaks up with you, your perfect world shatters. And when your colleague also gets his heart broken soon after, your shared office seems to be a curse rather than a blessing. But Andrew seems determined to mend your broken hearts... Will things finally go according to plan?
Word Count: 3694

I am
I am—yet what I am none cares or knows; My friends forsake me like a memory lost: I am the self-consumer of my woes— They rise and vanish in oblivious host, Like shadows in love’s frenzied stifled throes And yet I am, and live—like vapours tossed
Into the nothingness of scorn and noise, Into the living sea of waking dreams, Where there is neither sense of life or joys, But the vast shipwreck of my life’s esteems; Even the dearest that I loved the best Are strange—nay, rather, stranger than the rest.
I long for scenes where man hath never trod A place where woman never smiled or wept There to abide with my Creator, God, And sleep as I in childhood sweetly slept, Untroubling and untroubled where I lie The grass below—above the vaulted sky.

Andrew was fucking panicking.
Bloody panicking.
Desperate times called for desperate measures, and it had to be useful at one point to have an older brother… right?
Andrew would never admit that he needed reassurance, that he needed guidance, a protective figure to pat him on the back and tell him what to do next, and that it was the reason why he had driven to his brother’s on that Monday night. Of course not. Jon was his brother after all. Andrew would never admit any of that out loud, even if it were true.
The hike had happened the day before, that moment he had realised he was falling in love with you. That he was in love with you.
Bloody hell…
“So, let me get this clear…” Jon spoke with his elbows resting on his knees, bent over and leaning towards Andrew, struggling to gather his thoughts. “You thought you were still in love with Sam. Who left you for your colleague’s ex. And you thought ‘hey, what dumb idea could I bring to the table today’ and it led you to try to get back with the woman who cheated on you…”
“She didn’t cheat on me, she left me before she got with Frank.”
“How do you know that? Did you ask her?”
“Frank told Y/N he broke up with her before anything happened with Sam.”
“And she dumped you two weeks after he dumped her. You don’t know what happened.”
Andrew felt a lump creeping up his throat again, and he averted his gaze, rubbing roughly at his collarbone.
“Anyway, let’s move on…” Jon brushed the argument away with a quick gesture of the hand. “You tried to get back with Sam and to help Y/N get back with Frank and then you fell in love with Y/N. Your colleague. Whom you share an office with.”
“I mean… yeah, kind of… I guess…”
Jon buried his face in his hands.
“I swear to God, Andy… it looks like you purposefully want to ruin your own life.”
“I can’t control the way I feel, Jon!”
“This is madness! She’s in love with her ex!”
“I know!”
Andrew’s voice was shaking more than he wanted it to. Jon looked up at him, reading him like an open book, and Andrew hated it.
“I know, okay?!” Andrew went on, voice still shaking while his throat tightened. “I know! I know I’ve fucked up everything with Sam! I know she got better than me! I know I’ve never stood a chance at getting her back! And I know Y/N is too good for me! I know we’re colleagues and that would complicate everything! And I know, I fuck… fucking know that she’s in love with someone else! I know! I know but I don’t know how to fix this! So can you, for once, be useful and tell me what to do now? Cause… I… I don’t know… Jon, I don’t know…”
God, Andrew hated himself for breaking in front of his brother, for letting the tears escape, but he couldn’t help it. This was too much. He simply couldn’t handle this…
Before he could add anything, Jon had stood up from his armchair and was sitting next to his brother on his couch. He didn’t say a word as he pulled him into a hug.
“Come on, Andy… it’s gonna be fine. You’ll be just fine.”
“Christ… I’m so fucking lost… I don’t know what to do Jon…”
“Do you truly love her? Y/N? Or is she just a rebound.”
“I don’t know…”
He was lying. Of course, Andrew was lying, because he couldn’t say it out loud, how could he? He couldn’t say it to himself… he couldn’t feel like that again…
“Say it. Say it out loud.”
Jon would get it out of him, and Andrew knew that he needed to let it out, to embrace the feeling, but it was so painful… pulling on a knife stuck in a bleeding wound…
“Andy… say it. Answer me.”
Andrew closed his eyes, resting his cheek on his brother’s shoulder, looking across the room. There were posters in black and white of old movies on each wall, and across from Andrew, James Dean was staring at him, a cigarette in his mouth. And Andrew stared at those eyes in black and white, and they stared back. Unwavering. Immortalised on paper and ink. Young, free, rebellious, without a cause…
“I love her,” Andrew whispered. “I love her, Jon. I’m falling more and more every time I see her.”
“Is it serious? Or just a crush?”
Andrew shrugged.
“I’m in love. I feel… like I could love her more than I’ve ever loved Sam… How can I feel like that? I thought Sam was the one! I thought we would stay together, I… I thought about marrying her at one point!”
“She wasn’t good for you, Andy.”
“You sound like mom. And dad.”
“When were they ever wrong? About anything?”
Andrew sniffed, knowing damn well the answer, refusing to admit it.
“She was nice enough,” Jon conceded. “She was smart, beautiful, successful… but she didn’t care enough, Andy. She didn’t care enough about you. She was selfish, in her way of loving you. You deserve better than that.”
Andrew pondered these words, wanted to believe them, couldn’t…
“What do I do now? It’s a mess…”
“Yeah, it’s messy… But you’ll be fine. You need to do whatever makes you happy.”
“What a shitty answer. Did you find it in a bloody fortune cookie or something?”
“Do you still want to be with Sam?”
Andrew took a moment to think.
“I’m not sure. I don’t think so… I don’t know…”
“Do you want to be with Y/N?”
“She doesn’t want that…”
“That was not my question.”
Andrew struggled to swallow, but nodded.
“Yeah… yeah, I want her.”
“Then, love her. Maybe, with a bit of time, she’ll love you too.”
“What do I do to make her love me?”
But Jon chuckled.
“I’m single, remember? How am I supposed to know that?”
Valid point. But Andrew reckoned that he could at least try. He could find the things you didn’t like, he could change… maybe… be better for you…
There was silence for a moment, Andrew sniffed, looking at James Dean still. It was raining outside, as per usual. On the windowpane close to the poster, raindrops formed lines that turned the world into a blur. Dublin was but rough shapes and patches of brown, grey and white.
“How did you realise?”
“What?” Andrew croaked.
“That you love Y/N.”
“I won’t tell you. You’re gonna laugh at me.”
“I won’t laugh. You’re crying.”
“Like that has ever stopped you before!”
“Come on, I know you’re truly upset, I won’t take the piss. Tell me.”
Andrew heaved a sigh.
“We went hiking yesterday. And the day was so great, she was so funny… and then we took a break and she had brought snacks, and… she had all my favourites. Like… it was so fucking sweet…”
Jon started chuckling.
“She brought you snacks, and you fell for her?”
“You don’t understand.”
Andrew broke their hold, got up in a jolt. He was rubbing at his collarbone again.
“She… she did that for me. And she… she knows me… like… she knew what I liked. That’s… I don’t know how to explain it. I felt so… understood… like… Like I wasn’t on my own for a moment, you know? Like there was actually someone who cared enough about me to go through all the trouble of learning what I like and showing it… just to make me happy. Like…”
Andrew heaved a sigh.
“Anyway… I knew you’d laugh at me.”
“If I give you a cracker, will you declare your undying love for me?”
“Fuck off!”
Before he could tell his brother another insult, Jon was throwing a cushion at his head, making Andrew huff as he lost his balance for a second.
He was laughing again as he picked up the cushion and threw it back.
But that didn’t answer his question.
What would Andrew do now?
When he eventually got home, he wasn’t sleepy at all. Instead of going to bed, he scrolled aimlessly on his phone, wasting his time on social media. Once he had enough of it, he decided to organise his photos on his phone. He put them into files, kept some messily saved without any home.
And then he reached the pictures he had taken the previous day, of your hike. Landscape, trees, clouds, and you… you standing on top of that hill, while the world laid at you feet. Your red scarf, Elwood sitting by your feet. Your beanie, your warm coat. You were a silhouette on this picture, and yet he loved it, loved that feeling that you were towering over the world. His world.
He pressed his thumb on his screen a few times, and then admired his work. When he unlocked his phone again, instead of seeing Sam’s smiling face, he was seeing your frame among the Wicklow Hills.
He heaved a sigh.
What would Andrew do now?
Tumblr media
Saoirse was fucking panicking.
Bloody panicking.
Essays were piling up and it was a bloody nightmare. A FUCKING NIGHTMARE.
She was going to fail. She was going to fail all of her exams, and especially the one about 20th century literature, because… who the fuck was mad enough to make a class about the fucking modernist avant-garde, huh?
Professor Hozier-Byrne was, of course. Of bloody course. It had to be the nicest of them too, and the hottest, and the one who actually gave two fucks about his students… which meant that she couldn’t even be mad at him and curse at him for the suffering she was enduring as she struggled with this James Joyce novel… For Christ’s sake…
She heaved a painful sigh, hitting repeatedly her head against her table. Sean merely laughed at her.
“Come on, it’s not that bad.”
“It is that bad. It is worse. It is DEATH! I don’t understand a bloody thing about that fucking novel.”
“It could be worse, we could be studying Ulysses, it’s only The portrait.”
“Yes, and I could catch the plague and meet my certain death, but I can still die if I catch pneumonia.”
“You’re exaggerating. Wait until we switch to Beckett. And apparently we’re gonna study The Third Policeman as well…”
She let out a long moan, faking a sob, her forehead pressed to the table, where her notes and books were scattered. She looked up at her computer screen.
“As if Woolfe was not enough already… Please… kill me… death will be a sweeter fate than this torture…”
She didn’t notice the way Sean smiled, with something tender tugging at his lips. But he did. He did, because warmth was spreading across his chest at her antiques, and he thought about how adorable she looked like this, being silly while studying and being ten times smarter than him.
“I’ll help you with that essay if you give me a hand with Y/L/N’s… Oscar Wilde is kicking my arse.”
“Ha! That I understand!” she sat up, happy again, and speaking a little too loudly in the busy but quiet library.
She mouthed a silent sorry as a couple of students glared at her.
“Y/L/N’s class is so much easier to me,” she went on. “I can’t with this bloody… stream of consciousness and whatnot.”
Sean was about to answer when he noticed that Saoirse wasn’t listening anymore, looking over his shoulder.
“What…?” he made a movement to turn around, but the girl stopped him with a hiss, reaching across the table to grab his forearm, and the contact dazzled him too much to allow him to move again.
“H-B and Y/L/N are right behind you.”
“And?”
“And… I want to listen on their conversation, obviously. Don’t you want to know the tea?”
He rolled his eyes, but focused to catch their words too anyway.
“Mr. Darcy? The Jane Austen character? Really?” Andrew said in a whisper, clearly unimpressed. “You’re saying that the perfect man, the fictional character that sets unreachable standards… is a guy from the 19th century? That’s not very modern of you…”
You turned around, eyeing him up and down in a judgemental way.
He was following you across the library, the book he wanted to borrow tucked under his arm. He didn’t need to go through the 19th century section, he wasn’t working on that. But you did. So, Andrew followed you around, just to keep you close for a moment, just to keep talking to you for a little longer than your impromptu encounter in the hall of the library about fifteen minutes ago, when you entered and he was about to reach the counter to borrow his book. You didn’t know that though. He had pretended that he had another book to look for but had asked for help. You had believed him, of course, why wouldn’t you?
And now you were giving him a lecture on the female gaze in literature, apparently…
“Mr. Darcy is the perfect example of the use of the female gaze, as opposed to the male gaze.”
“I mean… he’s kind of a jerk at the beginning. He fixes his mistakes, but he started as a gobshite.”
But you shook your head, scanning the shelf while you kept on talking.
“But that’s the point. He fixes his mistakes thinking it will change nothing. He doesn’t improve and changes because he thinks it’s going to lead to Elizabeth loving him. He changes because she makes him see how much of a jerk he can be, how he acted from only his point of view, without taking her into account. And her rejection makes him reevaluate his decisions. He fixes things because he realises he hurt her and those she loved, but his intention is not bound to have what he wants, only to stop her suffering. Female gaze, versus male gaze. And that is, obviously, without mentioning the treatment of female characters in Austen’s novels. Characters with minds, and feelings, and wants, and wills… who make mistakes, and take decisions. Instead of a passive vessel under a male gaze, either to project a want, a longing, lust, love, fear, morals… ”
You were expecting Andrew to argue, because men always did. No matter your degree, and your expertise on the female gaze, on this very question, they always did.
Female gaze versus male gaze. Bloody misogyny…
But Andrew merely stared at you, and you could see in his slight frown that his brain was working at full speed. And when he spoke, it was to ask a new question, not contradict you.
“So… the fact that Darcy acts in a self-sacrificing way is what defines the female take on a character of his type?”
There was no judgement in his question, you were surprised by it.
“You can put it like that. It’s more… the fact that after being rejected for good, he steps back. Yes, you can see it as something like sacrifice, or genuine altruism or compassion. He still loves her, but he understands that she doesn’t, and instead of showing off and trying to make her change her mind, he steps back, accepts it, and reassesses his choices accordingly, without the occasion of winning her heart by doing so. He fixes his mistakes and keeps on protecting her because he loves her, not because he can get her back that way.”
Slowly, Andrew nodded.
“I think I get it. And that’s… unreachable for any real man for you?”
His tone was less serious again, drawing the conversation towards something less theoretical. You scoffed.
“Well, I haven’t found a counter-example yet.”
Andrew seemed to hesitate before speaking again, but he couldn’t hold back his question.
“Do you think Frank would have failed that test? That he would have disappointed you in that situation?”
You scoffed again.
“Like he hasn’t already disappointed me…”
You heaved a sigh, picking up a book and checking the summary on the back.
“Anyway, it’s alright. That’s why Mr. Darcy is fictional.”
Andrew gave you a smile, nodding and deciding to stir the conversation away from Frank again. It was making his heart ache a little too much…
“I saw yesterday that there is a documentary on TV on Sunday afternoon, about the male gaze in cinema. It seems very interesting. Would you like to watch it with me? I could cook us lunch too.”
You looked at him, blinking in surprise.
“Yeah, I… I saw that but… you want to watch that?”
He frowned a little, tilting his head, puzzled by your surprise.
“Yeah, totally. It seems to be very interesting. And… I mean… you’re literally an expert on the subject, even if you’re specialised in literature rather than cinema… So, it would be nice to have your input on that.”
You blinked, still surprised.
“I… yeah… yeah, that would be great.”
“Why are you looking at me like that?” Andrew chuckled to hide his burning cheeks. “Did I say something wrong?”
“No! That’s… surprising, that’s all.”
“How so?”
“You… never mind.”
“No, tell me. How is it surprising? I think your research is very interesting, and very much needed. I… I genuinely want to hear your take on this.”
“That’s…” you heaved a sigh, but gave him an earnest answer. “It’s just that… coming from a man, it’s pretty surprising.”
His face fell.
“Oh… I see.”
“Misogyny in the academic world is more common than feminism…”
“Yeah… yeah, I understand. I get it.”
“It’s just… usually men try to pretend that they are the expert on the subject I study for a living. So… that was impressive enough to hear you recognise that I’m the expert here. But then you’re even curious about women’s point of view… yeah, surprising, to say the least. I shouldn’t react like that though. I know you’re a feminist, I’m sorry. It’s just… a biased reflex.”
“I’m sorry you have to go through that. What a band of fucking pricks…”
You raised a surprised eyebrow again.
“Wow… he can curse like an actual sailor!”
Andrew rolled his eyes at your teasing, an amused smile on his lips still forming.
“Right… so, are you coming over on Sunday? Or am I making you work extra-hours and you’d rather just sleep and eat your weight in ice-cream?”
“I’ll come. And if you’re nice to me, I’ll even bring dessert.”
“Deal. Can’t wait.”
You opened your mouth to speak again, your eyes glimmering happily, but Andrew shut you down.
“No, you can’t buy a new toy for Elwood! My dog will end up loving you more than he loves me.”
“That has been my devilish plan from the beginning.”
You tucked the book you had been looking at under your arm.
“Okay, I’m all set.”
But Andrew had one more question, another one that he hesitated to ask, but he took the risk anyway, nervously rubbing at the back of his neck as he spoke again.
“Y/N?”
You turned to him again, silently inviting him to continue.
“If you were Elizabeth, and Frank was Mr. Darcy, what would you ask him to change for you?”
You blinked, surprised at his question, and you pondered on his words for a moment. But your answer was still earnest.
“Not breaking my heart.”
“Fair enough,” he smiled.
“And just… I don’t know… to…”
You hesitated, but answered anyway.
“To ask me about my day. I would have really liked it if he had asked about my days when we were together.”
You exchanged a sad smile. And Andrew spoke his next question the final one, the most important one too, the one that made him truly scared of your answer.
“And if you were Elizabeth, and I was Mr. Darcy… what would I need to change?”
You frowned at his question, and opened your mouth to answer, before closing it again.
“I… I don’t know. Honestly, I… I don’t know. I can’t really think about anything. I mean… you were never a jerk to begin with, so…” you added with a warm smile.
And at first, he smiled back, but then you turned around and he clenched his jaw. He tightened his hold on his book as you moved along the shelf. He couldn’t help the longing in his eyes.
Despite that answer, despite having nothing to change in him at first sight… you still wanted Frank, instead of him… God, he wished you could have told him what was wrong with him. What had made him unworthy of Samantha, but most importantly… what made him unworthy of you.
Andrew heaved a sigh, followed you with his head and shoulders bent, and he tried to hide his feelings when you turned around again, stirring up a new topic of conversation while you exited the room.
Meanwhile, Saoirse and Sean had listened to the conversation. When she focused on him again, Saoirse grabbed both of his arms and energetically shook him, shouting in a whisper.
“OH. MY. GOD!” she whispered, her voice made raspy by the cry she was refraining. “DID YOU HEAR THAT?! DID YOU SEE THAT?!”
“Huh… yeah, they… were… talking…”
“Talking? TALKING?! Sean! THEY ARE IN FUCKING LOVE! H-B is at least. HEAD OVER HEELS! Did you not see that longing in his eyes when she answered? AND THAT FUCKING QUESTION?! WHO ASKS QUESTIONS LIKE THAT?! WHO IS READY TO CHANGE FOR THE WOMAN HE IS FUCKING PINNING OVER?!”
“God’s sake, stop shaking me!”
She let go of him, out of breath.
“Oh my God, they are so CUTE! Do you think they will end up together? I hope so, they seem so cute! They would be so cute! And they’re both so nice, they totally would make each other happy! I hope he’ll make her change her mind, cause the girl seems fucking oblivious…”
“Don’t you think that you’re… overreacting? Overreading into this?”
She rolled her eyes, slapping her palm against her forehead.
“Men are so fucking stupid,” she complained.
Truer words were rarely spoken…

Clark Kent comforting and taking in neglected! Villain's daughter?
Pairing: (Platonic) Superman aka Clark Kent x 12-year-old girl Rating || Genres || Warnings: T. Family. Hurt/Comfort. A little dark at times because of mention of child abuse, but nothing too detailed I hope. A/N: I think I broke my heart writing this.........
Tumblr media
He had seen a dark figure steal it's way through the shadows.
"Did you see that?" He said, straining his eyes towards the shadow where the figure had disappeared. The rest of his Team, who had been trying to figure out how to get through the impenetrable force field that had them trapped, turned their attention to him.
Before any of them could reply the figure stepped out of the shadows, surprising all of them with it's presence.
"Its..........a child." Wonder Woman stated in a surprised tone as all of them gathered nearest to the force field wall where she stood on the opposite side.
She was dressed in a ripped shirt, hair and face smeared with what looked like dirt. Her feet were bare and her face was gaunt. Her eyes were wide and held that innocence that only a child possessed, yet those eyes seemed almost haunted. As if she had seen things no child her age should see.
Considering her father was a villain hell-bent on taking down the Justice League and take over the world, it was no surprise.
"What is she doing here?" Flash wandered out loud. Her eyes shifted from one grown-up to the other, as if assessing the adults behind the force field.
"If she's her father's daughter, she won't be letting use leave." Batman stated, turning his attention to trying to plan an escape. "Although, given her condition, we can perhaps hope otherwise."
Superman slowly crouched down so he could be at eye-level with the girl. She gazed back at him with wide green eyes. She seemed rather small, obviously a result of undernourishment, yet there was a certain air about her that prompted Superman to lean forward. He knew she could hear him through the force field.
"Hello, I'm Superman." He said as a way of greeting, trying to win her over if he could. "Via." She stared back at him for a good few moments longer before slowly bringing her arms forward to reveal one of the most tattered and pathetic looking stuffed toy he had ever seen. Obviously it was well-loved by her, and was the only possession she had.
Superman smiled softly. "Thats a nice toy, whats his name?" He asked, hoping to speak with her further and maybe try to find out who you were.
Via only stared back at him, though the smile the tall man gave her did ease her nerves and she gave a small smile in return. Her head tilted in curiosity for a few brief seconds as to why the nice man with the red cape was being held behind the scary force field. Via's gaze shifted to where Batman was trying to decrypt the force field.
Maybe she should help them?
If she did, maybe the nice man would play with her!
The absolutely innocent reason was what prompted Via to bound towards the control panel and with no hesitation, press a button. She had to stand on her tip toes to reach it, but in the end she smiled when the force field receded from around the nice man and his friends.
Instantly she was at his side, grasping his large hands between her own much smaller ones and tugging at it. "Play?" Via spoke in a small voice as she gazed up hopefully at him.
Clark looked down at her in surprise, at the trustful look in her eyes as she urged him to play with her.
He crouched down next to her once more while the rest of his Team began to search any information on the foe that had trapped them.
Via raised her toy once more. "Play?" She asked again to which he gave a small nod. "I promise to play with you later. But right now we need to get out of here." He wasn't about to leave her here. Via gave a nod, a smile on her lips as he scooped you up. Clark could lift any weight without feeling any of it, yet it pinched his heart that when he held the little girl, he barely felt anything.
He could've been holding air if she hadn't wrapped her arms around his broad shoulders.
                                             ————————–
It turned out to be a good thing, when Clark took Via with him when he did. She knew the very thing that could be used to defeat her father and once the man was taken care of and the Justice League was working on helping with any casualties, Clark turned his attention back to her.
Via had been passed around amongst the Justice League, with one member taking care of her at a time. Once her father had realized where she was, he had begun to hunt her. She had trembled so much in his arms, that Clark almost felt like he would loose his grip on her.
Currently she were asleep on the floor of the Watch Tower. Curled up she appeared even smaller, prompting Clark to remove the cape from around his shoulders and set it atop her, to keep her from getting cold.
"What're we gonna do with her?" Flash asked, obviously concerned about the girl. Her father was in a high security prison and should be turned over to the state so they would take care of her.
Yet the decision didn't sit right with any of them.
"Maybe one of us should take her?" Cyborg suggested, looking around at the rest of the Team. Wonder Woman pursed her lips, frowning slightly before speaking. "A sound decision, but I believe that it should be Superman who takes her in."
The Kryptonian stared at the Amazonian dumb-founded. "Me?!" He exclaimed, loud enough to make the little girl stir and clutch her toy tighter. Feeling a twinge of guilt Clark made sure to speak in a lower tone.
"Why me? Batman is always taking in orphaned children, shouldn't it be him?" No one made a move to comment on that, not even Batman who was going over every past discretion Via's father had committed in the past.
"I took your name because I believe young Via has bonded with you Superman. To send her with an unknown person or any one of us would be like a break of trust." She glanced at the girl. "And think of this as a temporary situation. Once we are able to locate a better home for Via, we will move her there."
Well when Wonder Woman said it like that, he wasn't about to go against her. A brief glance in Via's direction had whatever reservations that were left in his heart fade away. Pulling out his phone from a hidden compartment in his belt, he sighed.
"Guess I had better make arrangements."
                                             ————————–
When Via learned she would be staying with the nice man, Clark, she reminded herself, she'd been ecstatic. She liked him. And though everyone else in the colorful clothes had been nice to her as well, she liked him better.
Currently she was being carried by Clark, as the both of them descended near a field. He set her down gently, watching as her eyes widened at the sight of everything around her.
The trees, the dirt, the sky, the birds, everything was new to her.
Clark learned that her father hadn't exactly been the educating type. And had seen fit to simply have her locked away from the rest of the world. This was her first time being out.
"What is that?" She asked, pointing at the house that stood old yet proud a few paces from where they had landed. Clark gave a small smile at her curious nature. "Its a house and that is where you will be living." No sooner had he said the words when the door opened and a figure walked out.
"Clark!" Martha Kent called in greeting as she held her arms out for her son. Clark easily scooped her up in an embrace, earning a laugh from Martha at her son's enthusiasm. "Glad to see you safe and sound my boy." She said, giving his cheek a motherly kiss before raising an eyebrow at him.
"Have you been eating well dear? You look peaky." Clark rolled his eyes at his mother's doting. "You can save your fuss for our guest Ma." He moved out of the way to reveal Via, who stood hidden from view behind his cape.
Martha took in the sight of the unkempt girl. She was slight, wearing a dirty shabby cloth. Her hair was in tangles and looked like it had never seen a good wash. With wide brown eyes and a thin face, Martha's kind heart broke.
The little thing looked so alone.
"Ma, I want you to meet my friend Via." He walked to stand beside the girl. "Via, this is my mother, Martha." His mother gave a gentle smile, as she crouched in front of the girl to meet her gaze at her level.
"Its very nice to meet you Via. Would you like to come inside? I did a little shopping and I found a pretty dress you can wear?" Via blinked.
"Whats a dress?"
The two adults were a little taken aback by her sudden question, but neither of them made a comment about it.
Instead Martha held out a hand. "Why don't you come with me and I'll show you?"
                                             ————————–
It only took a few days for Via to start feeling comfortable around Martha. The woman bathed the girl, washed her hair and dressed her up before feeding her with her own hands. Via didn't know how to even feed herself properly, and it boiled Clark's blood to know that her father had neglected her to such as extent.
But that was in the past now. It was over.
That man would never neglect Via again, and he would certainly never lay eyes on her either. Not if Clark had anything to say about it.
With each passing day, Via grew stronger, healthier and more open as well as curious about the world around her. The Kent Farm provided many distractions, so it was a good thing Clark had Krypto come along and act as a guide dog to the little girl.
Via had shown no hesitation when approaching Krpyto, telling Clark how her father had kept multiple dogs and she had befriended all of them. Krypto seemed to take his job of guarding Via very seriously. He was be near her every single moment of the day. They both even slept in the same bed. Martha had been slightly against that last part, but she had given in when she realized just hos safe Krypto made Via feel.
Martha had fallen in love with Via, and Via adored Martha. She had even taken to calling her Ma like Clark did. It had melted Martha's heart and had her shedding a couple tears. She had taken it on herself to teach Via everything she could, from taking care of herself, to learning how to read and write. The two of the would spend every second Via was inside the house together.
And as for Clark?
He had to admit he was warming up to Via more and more. Of course, he still had to go to work or go on missions and it all kept him pretty busy.
Whenever he returned to the Kent Residence, Via would come racing out of the house and jump into his arms, and Clark would return her enthusiastic embrace. It was ridiculous that something as simple as a hug from a little girl he hadn't even thought existed until some time ago, would wash away his worries and troubles. Via had a sweet and kind nature, something that surprised Clark given the environment she had grown up in.
She was tell him about everything she had learned, and Clark would listen patiently. And if he helped out on the farm, Via would be right by his side learning from him.
Her presence became such a fixture in his life, that he forgot all about this being temporary.
So when Bruce called him with the news that there was a family willing to take Via, he froze. His blue gaze wandered over to where Via and Krypto were playing, with his mother nearby, setting up a picnic.
"Clark?" Bruce spoke through the phone, prompting the man to return his attention to his friend.
"Yes, still here." There was a pause.
"Do you need some time to think it over?"
Clark floundered, his mind unable to form words as he tried to come up with a response.
Just then Via let out a shriek of laughter when Krypto pummeled her with slobbery kisses. Ma Kent called to both of them to behave and not act in such a roguish manner. Her words fell on deaf ears.
"No." Clark stated firmly, a smile on his lips as he did. "I don't think I do."
He could practically hear that smug smile on Bruce's lips as he replied. "I'll set working on the papers for you to legally adopt her then." Clark gave a small huff of laughter.
"You do that."
"Via Kent?"
As if she heard her name, Via's head popped up from where she now laid on the grassy ground with Krypto at her side and gave him an enthusiastic wave, smiling from ear to ear.
"Via Martha Kent."
With that he disconnected the call and joined his little family.

Before The Dawn
Gregory/OC
Three months before the Thompson family move to Scotland sixteen year old Alice Ellington is the new kid in town and no one has ever seen her out with her parents, or knows where she lives; except for Gregory. He knows her parents are dead and she’s a street kid, living like a squatter in an old house on a hill. What he doesn’t know is that she isn’t as fragile as she looks, or that she’s not human. But that’s a secret Alice intends on keeping for as long as she can.
A/N: Will contain graphic depictions of blood, gore, violence, and death. Will notify readers of any changes within the ratings of nudity, sexual themes, and strong coarse language.
F Is For Friend or Foe
Song for the chapter: Never Know by Bad Omens
Alice’s POV
A sharp, brief gale of wind blew dark–colorful curls into her glowering face, followed by a spray of dirt kicked up by the tires of the Kawasaki motorcycle careening to a stop in front of her. The driver’s headlamp blinded her momentarily before the light and engine cut off completely.
It was the man who spoke first in a rough voice, a toothy smile stretching across his rugged shadowed–face, “Hello there darlin’. Haven’t seen you in so long and you gonna greet me like this? Holding that pathetic thing in my face?”
She held the sawed–off steady in one hand, it’s barrel aimed between the eyes of the haughty newcomer. A muscle in her jaw twitched. “The bullets may not be real asshole, but they’ll still hurt like a son of a bitch. How did you find me anyway?”
“Tsk, tsk, tsk! You should know better by now, love. I can find you anywhere on this earth, remember? There’s nowhere in this realm or the next I won’t be able to track you down.”
He rose from his bike, towering over Alice by a foot and a half. His shaggy, shoulder–length wet hair fell over his face in clumps as he bent over to gleam at her – completely and utterly ignoring the shotgun barrel staring him down.
“You must be looking to get your ass whooped, huh Azriel? I told you last time before we went our separate ways that if you came after me I was going to find a way to end your sorry ass.”
“Aw, is that how you really feel? I’m hurt. Honestly. I helped create you and you don’t want anything to do with me?”
Alice snorted, “Hell no. Not behind the pearly gates of Heaven, even if you was allowed back in there, or the deepest depths of the underworld.” She shifted her stance, putting her feet shoulder–length apart, and Azriel laughed.
His eyebrows shot up, hopping quickly from the space he was standing in front of her to her left. “If you were going to shoot me, dear, you would’ve done so already.” A hop to her right, grinning like a mad hatter. “So why don’t you go ahead and get it out of your mouth? Ask me the question that’s on your mind right now.”
The barrel followed his movements with ease, her finger moving to lay over the trigger. “What question would that be? How much of a pain in my ass you’ve become? I ran from the States for a reason, you shithead. It’s been rather peaceful here without you and don’t you think for one second I’ve forgotten about what happened in California.”
Azriel scoffed and rolled his eyes, shoulders sagging as he retorted, “I didn’t think you would. But the question I was hoping for was ‘why have you been here in Scotland for two weeks and haven’t popped in to see me until now?’ You know, a guy just can’t catch a break with you.”
Her eyebrows furrowed in confusion, “You’ve been here for two weeks?”
“Uh, duh! You seem so surprised. Did you not sense I was around? You know, that’s very sloppy of you and I’m disappointed to say I did not expect you to be slipping up.”
Alice snarled in annoyance, flipping the shotgun around in her hand so that she was holding the barrel and wielding it as if it were a baseball bat. “I sensed something was wrong, but I was holding out on the hope I wouldn’t have to look at your stupid face again.”
The man chuckled, leaning in close and puckering his lips playfully, “You weren’t complaining about my stupid face when we were together so many years ago. In fact, I quite remember you used to enjoy my stupid face when it was between your legs.”
She released an enraged scream, swinging the sawed–off at Azriel, but missed as he blurred to his motorcycle. His movements were fast enough that human eyes would’ve only seen a quick glimpse of shiny leather and black. Azriel sat on the bike again, chortling with glee as she flipped forward into a roll to stop from making a complete fool of herself.
The shotgun was twice her size, just as heavy as it looked, and the awkwardness threatened to drag her to the ground as she missed her intended target. But she had caught herself and was left on her knees, clutching the sawed–off to her chest as she stared daggers up at Azriel.
“What the hell else do you want from me?”
“Oh, honey, I didn’t come to Scotland for you. I came to visit an old friend of mine, actually. You just happened to be in the neighborhood too and I finally decided to see what you was up to. Still playing human, I see.”
Alice huffed and rose to her feet just as languidly as she had been leaning against the store counter, with the elegance and grace of a queen. “I didn’t even know you had friends.”
“Says the woman who has no friends. But anyhoo, as much fun as this little reunion has been, I gotta run.”
She spun on her heel to stomp off, grunting. “As long as you don’t hang around me we’re cool.”
“Don’t walk away too fast, love, I got a great view from the back I don’t wanna miss.” Azriel waved after her as he turn the key in his motorcycle, smiling like the cat that got the canary. “I’ll be seeing you around!”
Alice burst through the door of the smoke shop and slammed it shut behind her with an irritated growl, leaning quickly against it’s cool glass as the sound of the bike engine sat there for a minute with a steady thrum.
She didn’t want to look back over her shoulder though she could see the angry glare of the motorcycle’s headlamp through the dimly lit store. Instead she focused on a nearby lava lamp, watching the purple ooze inside as it drifted up and down it’s glittery bottle.
Then, just as fast as he’d shown up, the Kawasaki sped off and took it’s looming beam of light with it.
Gregory’s POV
What.
Just.
Happened.
Gregory slunk low through the aisles in the oddly decorated shop, watching the youthful–looking woman as she raised her foot and slammed her boot against the glass door.
His floor–length trench coat grazed along the checkered tile as he crept closer, hidden behind statues of various deities and dream catchers. There were lava lamps of all colors spread throughout the little store, neon signs and posters colliding with each other on the walls.
Being in much closer proximity to her the girl appeared to be close to his age rather than the twenty–something he had assumed, although that man who was harassing her had acted as if she were much older than even that. The way he spoke to her was rather vulgar though, like they had once been something to each other.
It seemed as if they had years of history between them.
Gregory inhaled slowly as he came to a stop at the end of the shelves, crouching down to his knees. He smelled rosemary and peony.
“Hey! Who’s there?”
He startled, eyes widening as he jumped back a few feet. There was no way she heard him, as feather light as his footsteps had been and as careful as he was not to knock over anything.
And of course, his lack of heartbeat.
Then the young female appeared in front of him, brandishing the sawed–off in her hands aimed right for his face, and if looks could kill Gregory would’ve died on the spot. His hands automatically flew to protect his chest, shouting, “Put that thing down! Whatever it is I don’t want to be licking any wounds later.”
He doubted the weapon would kill him, it didn’t appear as if it held stakes, but Gregory didn’t want to find out.
“How the hell did you get in here?”
“The door was open, miss. This shop is open right?”
“Oh… right.” Alice lowered the weapon to her side slowly, while sizing him up, and offered her hand; raising a curious eyebrow. “Did you drop something on the floor or do you want some help up?”
He gaped at her for a moment, then collected himself and scoffed, “No I did not drop anything and I most certainly do not need your help.” With one swift, languid move Gregory was on his feet again standing over her by a good three feet.
She didn’t even flinch, her expression changing from curious to annoyed. “Look, dude, either pick something and pay for it or get the hell out.” Alice spun on her heel and began stomping towards the glass box, still talking as she walked away from him.
“At this particular moment I am not in a good mood, I’m wielding a shotgun, and I am seriously tired of dealing with male ego.”
Gregory sped past her, moving fast although not as fast as Azriel had been, and was blocking her path as her hand reached out for the knob of the door that lead into the protective room with the glass windows. He bared his fangs, snarling, “I’m not a customer. I have no money to give you nor would I want anything out of this business!”
She skid to a halt in her tracks before she could collide with the strange boy, but still was unfazed. Alice threw the shotgun aside as Gregory’s hands clamped onto her upper arms and with both hands she grabbed a hold on the edges of his trench coat, lifted him off the floor with ease and made to toss him aside.
He let out a startled gasp, but dug his fingernails into her skin and as she swung him he pulled him down with her. Both of them rolled across the floor until they hit a shelf, halfway across the room. Hookahs and bongs rattled, a few grinders hit the ground, but the shelf wobbled until it became still.
Alice on top, glaring daggers as her hair hung around her face. Her legs trapped his legs together and his face, he was sure, would be red had he fed earlier tonight. Gregory, on bottom, heaved an irritated breath and snarled again. His hands moved from her upper arms to wrap around her throat, “What are you woman?!”
She drew back one of her hands from his coat, fingers already curled into a fist, “None of your business!” Her knuckles made contact with his nose and in anger, he bucked his hips rolling the two of them around so he was on top.
He felt the bone in his nose had broken, but no blood poured out, and Alice gaped in surprise. Only a little drop of thick, blue–black liquid leaked from his nostrils. “I have not the energy to fight with you, lady, so can we please call a truce? We are obviously evenly matched..”
“Get your hands away from my throat and you got yourself a truce, bloodsucker.”
Gregory scowled down at Alice, reluctantly pulling away and getting back to his feet. “How do you know what I am?” His head tilted as she bent her knees, bucked her hips, and flipped onto her feet like a ninja. “You aren’t human.”
“What gave it away? The fact I picked your ass up like you weighed no more than a newborn baby? Or the fact I sensed you before you knew I was even aware of you lurking between the shelves?”
He grinned slowly, toothily, and let out a laugh. “And here I had thought my hunting skills were starting to get rusty. You felt I was here before I saw you?”
“Yeah. And I also smelled death.”

SHADOW AND BONE MASTERLIST
It was late when Nikolai walked into his room. It always was. He was the first one to get up and the last one to go to bed, assuring that everything was going as it was supposed to.
Such was the life of a king.
Well, Nikolai wasn't king yet. But with his father's illness, it won't be long 'till he was.
He had been dreaming about this all his life. Hell, this was everything he had trained to be. Ignored every rumours and gossip and slander, focused only on one thing: becoming the man that Ravka needed.
And now the moment had finally come.
Nikolai could barely believe it. Yes, he was ambitious and skilled. He knew that he was the right person for this job. Either way, he was nervous.
Whenever he pictured this moment as a young boy, he had always thought that it'd be the end. The coronation being the cusp of his personal fulfilment.
But things had changed.
Now his coronation didn't hold any finality to it. It felt like the beginning of something new if anything. Something that Nikolai had been extensively planning for and was extremely excited for. But since it was something new, something that had never been done before, the uncertainty of how it could go made him a bit nervous.
Because now he wasn't alone.
A fierce heartrender had become his partner, his confidante, his better half.
Trying to be as silent as possible, Nikolai quickly undressed before joining you to bed. It was routine for you. Nikolai would come home late, you'd be deep in slumber by then, but he would always hold you close to him and kiss your neck to warn you of his presence. That would usually wake you but you'd never get angry. Actually, you were the one that told him to let you know when he got back. If only to make sure that he was okay.
"All good love, go to sleep." He'd whisper then in your ear. You wouldn't move, only wiggle close to him and pull his arm over your body so that you could hold his hand.
To be fair, you had always been a constant in Nikolai's life. You had met when you were both children. He was known for being restless, always escaping his nanny's hold to go on "adventures" as he'd call them. They'd usually entail climbing over trees or exploring paths in the forest that he had never seen.
One day, during one of his quest, he had put into his head that he needed to climb the biggest tree he could find. It was easy enough to spot his challenge but doing it was another thing.
He had been able to climb a few feet, his short stature and slender limbs aiding him in his endeavour. Looking down to assess his progress, he was confident he could really make it. Overconfident really. Because too busy loading over his abilities, he didn't notice that his foot was not hovering over a branch.
So when he went to confidently put all of his weight on it and it was met with nothing, he lost his balance. He tried to grip with all his might to the branches he was holding in his hands but he wasn't strong enough. And so, he fell.
Thankfully, he hadn't climbed high enough for the fall to be fatal. But it was enough to severely injure him.
At first, the impact of the ground left him out of breath. His head hurt too. It was only when he tried to stand that he noticed that his leg was bent at an unnatural angle.
There wasn't any blood but the sight was enough to send baby Nikolai in a panic. His breath turned hollow and frantic and now that he was aware of the injury, pain shot through his leg making him sob.
It was for the noise he made that you had been able to find him.
You were also wandering around the forest but for less nefarious intent though. You had a book under your arm and you were looking for a quiet spot to read. Needless to say, as soon as you heard his wails of agony, the book fell discarded on the ground as you run toward the noise.
When you reached him you tried your best to get him to calm down. He was hyperventilating by then. You weren't that far in your training to be able to slow his heartbeat or put him to sleep. But you were skilled enough to soothe him with your touch.
That and Nikolai was too caught up in looking at you, this stranger who was trying to help him.
While you couldn't actually heal him, you kept him company until someone eventually found you.
That was how your friendship had begun until it had bloomed into something more as you grew up.
Unbeknown to you, your relationship was about to reach another mark. Holding you close to him, Nikolai willed himself to put his plan in action tomorrow.
As his coronation grew closer, he grew more and more restless. He needed to do this as soon as possible.
The next day went by as usual. When you woke up Nikolai wasn't next to you but you found a trial with your breakfast and a handwritten note on it.
It read:
"An hour before the sun sets, meet me when it all started."
While it was unusual for Nikolai to leave you little notes in his stead, the mysteriousness of it made you antsy. What could he possibly be up to?
Your day went by, as usual, a skip in you feet as you were excited about the date.
Like he had asked you, you made sure to reach that tree in the forest exactly when he asked you to.
Nikolai was already there, pacing at the foot of the tree until he noticed you standing there.
"What is going on?" Before seeing him, you hadn't thought that this meeting could be about bad news. But Nikolai looked nervous, almost scared and that didn't happen often.
"Hello, love." He greeted you walking towards you. Holding your hands in his, he raised one to his lips to leave a small kiss.
"Such a gentleman," you cooed at his gesture, his lips curling in a small smirk as a result, "what did you do?" Raising one of your eyebrows, you asked knowing that when Nikolai was so sweet it was only for two reasons: he wanted to make it up to you or he wanted to have sex. Since doing it in public places had never been appealing to him, you thought it more likely that it was the first.
"Can't a man do something nice for his better half?" He scoffed in fake hurt. You pointedly stared at him but you were smiling.
"I wanted to something nice for you," he said shyly? while shrugging your shoulders not meeting your eyes. Without waiting for a reply, he pulled you closer to the tree where you now noticed there was a white sheet laid with rose petals and candles all over it.
"Things are about to change," he said referring to his impending coronation as you reached the sheet, "and you know what I realized?"
You shook your head in reply, too enchanted by the man in front of you and the scenery around you to speak. Nikolai smiled at you, gently reaching to your face to remove a piece of hair by tucking in behind your ear. His hand gently cupped your cheek, his smile widening even more when you leaned into his touch.
"I've realized that no matter what happened in my life, where I am in the world or what name people call me, you're always the constant."
"And I don't want that to change. Ever." His eyes flicker between yours, shining with anticipation. But why? Surely he must know that you never intend to leave him.
"That it's never going to change, sasha. I'm here to stay." You assured him, your hand reaching to grab his.
His eyes flashed again, regaining their usual confident glow. He looked reassured.
"Well, you know me, my dear. Always worrying so, I hope you don't mind, but I'd like to make it official." He joked, his hands leaving your face as he kneeled.
Kneeled? He couldn't possibly...
Your breath hitched at his position. He got a little box out of his pocket before reaching for your hand again.
"Y/n, my heart, my love, the apple of my eye, you beautiful woman," he started cheekily knowing very well how calling these things would make you blush, "We were both young when I first saw you. Me making a fool out of myself by doing something stupid as per usual and you coming to save my ass. Little did I know though that that stupid adventure would give me more than a broken leg." Both of you smiled at the memory.
"if I knew that breaking a leg would be what made me meet you, I would have done sooner. And don't give me that look," he said once you glared at him, "what's a broken leg in the face of true love?" He added making you roll your eyes. Always smooth with his words. Damn him.
"Because that's what we have, a love story. And it may not be conventional with me dragging you all over the world doing reckless things, assuming different identities and everything but it's our love story. And it's beautiful, I wouldn't change it for the world. So baby, please, just say yes and make me the luckiest bastard in the world."
His words, his hopeful smile and shining eyes were too much for you to contain your tears. They were happy tears, you both knew that. There was no way you could say no to him. But at the same time, you were a bit hesitant. Nikolai painted a wonderful picture but you knew that the reality was a bit harsher.
Kneeling as well, you also gripped his hands.
"You're my whole heart, sasha, I hope you know it." You started, your voice wavering a bit. Nikolai's face fell for a moment sensing that there was a "but" coming. But it only lasted so long before his face morphed into that stubborn expression he'd always have whenever he'd set on getting something.
"I'd be a fool to say no to you, Nikolai," you added hastily hoping to rectify your mistake. "But I can't help but worry."
"You're going to be king soon and I'm not sure how much having a Grisha consort will help you."
Where his lips were pursed in confusion now they were set in a line. Knowing what was troubling you relieved him. That was easily fixed.
"So what, my love? I'll be a king and you'll be the queen. You've fought for this country just as much as I have. Besides, you're a fool if you think that I'm going to leave you just because I'll be addressed by a different title."
The hold on your hands felt reassuring, the sheer determination and honesty in his eyes even more. You knew Nikolai and you knew that he was ambitious as well as stubborn. And loyal. Your heart warmed at his words that you knew were true. He was not going to let you go.
Suddenly, the realisation of your feelings for him and his feelings for you overwhelmed you. A sob broke through your lips making worry return in Nikolai's eyes.
"Saints Nikolai, you have no fucking idea how grateful I am you fell down that tree that day." You confessed, eyes welling with tears.
"So am I, my love. My leg a bit less but..." you both chuckled.
Returning serious, Nikolai went to open the velvet box he was holding. The Lantsov's emerald. Your eyes widened when they fell on it. You had known about it but you had never seen it before.
"Nikolai-" you whispered in astonishment.
"I know it's not exactly your style but this was fit for a queen. My mother gave it to me and I want you to have it." He said sensing your hesitancy.
"Can I also have a kiss?" You asked cheekily batting your eyelids. Nikolai laughed at your antics. He quickly slipped the ring around your finger before cradling your face and pulling you close.
"You don't have to ask twice." And with that, his lips crashed on yours. He kissed you slowly at first, just your lips touching. But as soon as the realisation of what had happened dawned on him, the kiss grew frantic. His hands were in your hairs as yours were wrapped around the collar of his coat, pulling him impossibly close to you.
Life with Nikolai wasn't easy but his love was the most real thing you had ever felt. Nothing in the world meant more to you than he did. Ring or not.

You watch the coffee in your cup as if it has all the answers for the future hidden in the caffeine. It's eight o'clock in the morning, and this is already your third cup of the sacred liquid, and you're sure it won't be your last. The shadows under your eyes are a sign of your nightmares that haunted you last night. The fact that you have them doesn't bother you, after all, you've been going through the procedure for months. What bothers you is the fact that you couldn't wake yourself up this time. You've gotten in the habit of pinching yourself when it would get too painful, but something stopped you last night. And the fact that you don't know what exactly bothers you the most.
"Y/N." Emily's voice pulls you out of your thoughts and you have to tear your gaze away from your coffee. "What do you think?"
All eyes are on you and out of nervousness you'd like to slide around in your chair, but suppress the urge. You haven't been listening for the last few minutes, too busy with your own thoughts and problems that you can't answer her. The case is supposed to be your last, and you're trying hard to enjoy it and value the time with your friends, but really you're just waiting for it all to be over. Most of all, you want to pack your things and leave.
You barely noticeably shake your head for Emily to continue, and turn your attention back to your coffee, which must be cold by now, but that doesn't stop you from drinking it down to the last drop. Without saying anything, you get up from your chair to get another one, paying no attention to Emily's annoyed look. As you fill your cup in the precinct kitchen, she stands right next to you.
"You're not being very helpful, Y/N," she says coolly as you take a sip. You know her manner is all pretense, because in reality she's incredibly concerned. She only needs to look at your face once to know what's going on in your head, but she doesn't address it. She knows you'll talk to her when the time is right. But you're not sure that will ever happen. "I've already assigned the tasks. You stay here and work with Spencer to gather all the important information that may be relevant to Penelope's research." The look on your face says it all. You don't want to spend any time with Spencer, and certainly not alone, but Emily gives you no choice. Before you can say anything back, she disappears out the door with the others.
With your coffee, which you now wish had a strong shot of vodka in it, you make your way back into the conference room, where Spencer is bent over the table, passing pictures and notes back and forth. You stop in the doorway and watch him for a brief moment, and only then do you notice the narrow, red scratch on his face that stretches from his cheek to his neck. You squint your eyes. It hadn't been there yesterday after all.
"What happened?“, you ask as casually as you can as you sit down and set your cup down on the table. As Spencer looks at you questioningly, you point to his face. "Looks bad." Indeed it does, though it's just a scratch. There's bloody crust in a few places, contrasting in color with his pale skin. Something really got to him.
"Cut myself shaving“, he replies curtly, glancing again at the pictures in front of him. You haven't seen him in two years, don't actually remember who he is exactly, but you still know when he's lying. And when to stop asking and let it go. When Penelope calls, you discuss some stuff and you see Spencer scratching over the wound until it bleeds, which he doesn't seem to notice, which is why you stall Penelope on the phone and grab his hand as soon as the line goes silent. Astonished, he looks at you before looking at his fingers.
"Come with me“, you say briefly and don't even wait for him to follow you. You approach an officer and ask for a first aid kit, which is immediately made available to you. Spencer follows you uncertainly into one of the washrooms, where you already put on the disposable gloves from the box - you don't want any bacteria to get on the wound - and wet a towel from the towel dispenser. Reluctantly, Spencer leans against one of the sinks, waiting for your instructions.
"Tilt your head to the side a little, please." You take the damp cloth and gently dab along the scratch to remove the dried blood. Spencer has to swallow at the touch and you see his Adam's apple bob, and really it shouldn't be that attractive, unfortunately it is anyway. You have to concentrate because this is the closest you've been to him in years. You breathe in his scent, feel his warmth through your gloves, and can barely stifle a deep breath.
"How do you know how to do that?“, he asks softly as you disinfect the wound, and Spencer has to pull himself together to keep from reacting to the burning from the alcohol.
You look at him briefly before turning your attention back to the scratch. „Experience“, you reply, spreading some wound healing ointment over it before taking off your gloves and disposing of everything in the trash can. You then put the first aid kit back together. As you turn around, Spencer is standing right in front of you.
"You didn't tell me you were having nightmares“, he whispers, and confused, you look at him. There's concern in his gaze, and if you're not mistaken, a little affection too, but you push the thought aside, not letting yourself have hope. Hope has only harmed you lately you have not moved forward a bit.
You look once more at the scratch, and then into his warm eyes. "You didn't cut yourself shaving“, you count one and one together and clench your jaws. He doesn't need to answer. You did this to him, you just don't remember. The reason you didn't wake up is Spencer. He was probably holding you, reassuring you so much that your body turned off its protective mechanism. It had certainly been the last time he did that, and you hadn't been awake to enjoy it.
"Why didn't you tell me about this?“, he asks, wanting to reach for your hand, but you take a step back. You don't want him to touch you. You'd prefer it if you weren't in this situation at all. You'd prefer that you hadn't come back at all. None of this should have ever happened.
"It's none of your business anymore, Spencer." Your tone is cool and something in his face changes.
"I thought we were friends."
You have to suppress a laugh. Two years ago, you could have lived well with being friends with him. You were prepared for it then, wished it on him, and meant it sincerely. Only lately you've been through so much that you can't even imagine it anymore. The two years had been hell, but you are sure that you can't live next to him without being able to be with him. You can't watch him and Max be happy together, and even though his happiness is everything you want, you'd rather he be happy with you. But you can't tell him that, it would be unfair and selfish. So you just look at him.
Then you reach for the small suitcase and push past him towards the exit.
-
You're glad when the case is over and you arrive back at Quantico. It's been a week since you and Spencer spoke, and luckily for you, you've continued to be spared nightmares, for which you're quite grateful. Not that Spencer is going to join you in bed one more time to calm you down.
As you walk from the airfield back to the building, you fall back a bit, watching the team joke and laugh with each other despite their fatigue. Most of all, you'd like to leave right now without saying goodbye. Rip off the band-aid, without anesthesia. Short and painless. But your plan is foiled when Emily suddenly walks up beside you and puts a hand on your arm.
"We're going for a drink." She raises an eyebrow expectantly. Apparently she's waiting for you to decline the invitation, and all too gladly you'd like to meet her expectations, but it's almost certainly the last night you'll see each other, at least for an extended period of time, and short and painless wouldn't be fair to her - your best friend.
You smile at her. "You're paying for the first round."
Her eyes widen in delight, but before she can say anything back, Luke, who has overheard your conversation, interferes. "We're going out for drinks?" A grin spreads across his face, almost reaching his ears, and suddenly the rest of the team pricks up their ears. Luke's gaze is fixed on you. "I bet I can drink you under the table by now, Y/N."
„You can’t“, Matt replies, and you see Rossi smile to himself. "Last time you did that, you almost passed out after four shots."
"JJ got the drinks. Maybe she mixed something in“, Luke tries to defend himself, but the blonde raises her hands.
"I'm not responsible for your kindergarten drinking. But I'd love to see you try to drink Y/N under the table." She smiles at you and winks, and you can't help but grin. It feels good to know that all is well between you and the team, even though they know with a high probability that you won't be staying. You'd understand if they were mad at you, but that doesn't seem to be the case. JJ looks at Spencer, who is being less than forthcoming. "You coming, Spence?"
He risks a quick glance in your direction before adjusting the bag on his shoulder. He knows this will be your last night. And that you won't see each other again after this. "I think I'll sit this one out“, he replies curtly, but JJ nudges him and he gives her a dirty look.
"You can't avoid it, Spence."
You'd rather he'd gone home.
The first drinks are on Emily, as promised, and the ones after that are on Rossi, and it's actually not long before Luke is sitting at the table with a glass of water, wishing he'd slowed down. You grin at him from the dance floor where JJ and you are swinging your hips, and he sticks his tongue out at you before putting his head in his hands and sipping water through the straw in his glass.
JJ reaches for your hand and pulls you close before wrapping her arms around your neck. "I'm going to miss you“, she almost yells so you can hear her over the loud music. You smile weakly at her. There's a glint in her eyes, probably from the alcohol, and only now do you realize how much you're really going to miss her.
"I'm going to miss you too“, you reply, risking a quick glance in Spencer's direction. He's sitting next to Luke, looking completely out of place. You look back to JJ and without further ado, she puts her hands to your cheeks and presses a kiss to your mouth. When she pulls away from you again, she just grins at you. "What was that for?"
"I want you to know that we love you. We all do. Remember that when you're lonely, and call if you need anything. You are and always will be a part of our weird family."
You wait a brief moment before pulling away from her and disappearing into the ladies' room. As soon as the door slams shut, tears stream down your cheeks and you have to hold onto the edge of the sink to keep from breaking down. You were aware of how much the others would miss you, but hearing it from JJ only makes it more real. By leaving, you're not only leaving Spencer behind, but everyone else as well, and that's so selfish of you that bile rises inside you and you almost throw up. You wish you hadn't had those last two drinks.
"Y/N?" You don't have to turn around to know it's Spencer. You recognized his voice and can see him in the mirror above the sink.He's standing behind you, unsure of what exactly to do, which is why he buries his hands in his pants pockets and looks at you silently.
You wipe the smeared mascara from under your eyes before turning and leaning against the basin. "This is the ladies' room, Spencer. You're not supposed to be in here.“
"I'm right where I'm supposed to be“, he replies, but doesn't move from the spot. He watches you brush your hair out of your forehead and wipe at your hot face to get rid of the tears. "You don't have to go. You know that, right?"
You look up from your shoes, straight into his eyes. "Yes, I do."
You want to leave the washroom, but his fingers curl around your arm, holding you back. "Y/N ..."
"I can't stay, Spencer. I can't look at you without knowing that someone other than me is waiting for you at home. I can't watch you be happy without me. It's okay, really. It's just that I don't have the strength to watch it anymore." The words just bubble out of you, and for some reason you can't stop. But it feels good to say it out loud, even though you certainly shouldn't. "I love you, Spencer. I'll always love you. But I'm at the end of my rope." You shrug in exasperation. "I have to think about me. I can only think about me." Spencer's face contorts painfully, but you can't stop. "To think that you're about to go to Max's and do God knows what ..." You shake your head, as if it might drive the thoughts from your mind. "I feel like I - I - I can't breathe. Like I'm going to die. And I just can't take it anymore."
Spencer's hand comes away from your arm at your honesty, but only to grab your hand and pull you against him. You bounce against his chest, wanting to pull away, but he holds you tight and presses you to him with his other hand. Carefully, he places his palm against your cheek and gently strokes your skin with his thumb. "Please, don't go."
You look into his eyes, which have filled with tears. "Why not?"
You can practically see him struggling with himself. He wants to say something, but can't find the right words, so he presses his lips together and lets his forehead sink against yours. All he has to do is say it, and you'd throw all your plans out the window and stick around. Just a few words. But he doesn't say them. "I can't ..."
You take a deep breath before pulling away from him, disappointed. „Goodbye“, you whisper, before leaving him alone in the washroom.
-
Spencer sits uncertainly at the kitchen table, watching the tea bag with lemon balm in the cup in front of him. He doesn't actually like lemon balm, but he needs something to calm his nerves and get the trembling of his hands under control as he sits there searching for the right words.
The last time he had felt this helpless, Emily had just left his apartment and he had been about to make some phone calls. The first call would have been to a man who would have given him a different number. The second phone call would have been to a woman who would have transferred him. And the third number belonged to someone who would have given him what he was only too happy to get.
Many years ago, he had sworn to himself that he would never resort to it again. That he wouldn't need it. He would be stronger than the desire to feel nothing more. The only thing that had stopped him was that you would never wish that for him. That you had helped him then, had stood by him. He didn't want it to be in vain.
Spencer hates feeling so helpless, even though he actually knows exactly what he has to do now. That's why he sits in the kitchen in the middle of the night, cup of calming tea in hand, not daring to look at the woman sitting across from him. But he doesn't need to say anything either. She knows why he was at her door at such a late hour. They sit in silence, neither quite knowing what to do. Neither of them has been in this situation before. Spencer is glad she's the first to speak.
"So that's it." It's more of a statement than a question. Spencer nods silently, whereupon she purses her lips. "Because of her?"
Spencer looks up from his cup and looks directly at Max. Then he shakes his head. "No, not because of her."
She raises an eyebrow. "But what? Don't you dare give me that 'it's not you, it's me' tour. I've heard that one before."
Spencer has to think for a moment, find the right words, before he answers. "I've lost her so many times. I wouldn't survive it another time."
The two have known each other long enough. Max knows he's not exaggerating or meaning it metaphorically. He has told her about his addiction, and she had been very grateful at the time that he was so honest with her, even though they hadn't known each other long. Spencer knows that all of this is not healthy and psychologically quite far from reasonable and Maxine knows what she has gotten herself into. But no one could have guessed that it would end this way.
"I'm sorry." Spencer's voice sounds hoarse and raspy. He stands up and makes his way toward the apartment door.
"I hope you make it." There's so much honesty in her voice that Spencer has to smile sadly over his shoulder.Maxine doesn't deserve this. None of you deserve this.
The walk to Emily's apartment is short, but to Spencer it feels like an eternity. The train is late, which is why he actually starts running, afraid of missing his chance. He runs until his lungs are burning and his bag is banging painfully against his ribs.The few people left on the streets look at him askance, but he doesn't care. He's panting, barely getting his breath and wishing he was a little more athletic, but as he sprints around the next corner he can already see the building where Emily's apartment is located.
For a brief moment he considers taking a break, catching his breath, but he can't wait another second. Hopefully he's not too late.
He's not surprised that he can just walk into the building, even though he doesn't have a key. He sprints up the stairs, and runs down the hallways until he's gasping for breath and standing in front of the right door, his head high. He bangs on the door with a clenched fist, hoping it will open and he won't be too late. He can't be late. He can't be late.
Finally, the door opens, and for the first time in years, he can take a real breath.
"Y/N."

When you had first started dating Nestor, you knew quickly that he was the one for you. Being with him helped put the rest of the world into perspective—it all made a little more sense with him. You had assumed that, that because of what his life was like, that he wouldn’t be the type to be all that hell-bent on getting married. You were alright with that. A ceremony and a piece of paper weren’t really what mattered to you, as long as the two of you were together.
So imagine your surprise when he popped the question on your anniversary trip. You’d said yes, of course, but you were in shock that he was so excited for a wedding. The grin that would take over his features whenever you brought up the wedding to him or anyone else, or when he’d see you toying idly with the ring on your finger while you spoke, was unbelievably contagious.
The two of you had agreed on a small ceremony—just close friends and family. You found a beautiful outdoor venue that the two of you had agreed upon immediately. You were pleasantly surprised by how involved he wanted to be in the planning. It was a relief, really, because he was more organized than you could ever hope to be. Between the two of you, the whole buildup to the big day was far less stressful than people said it would be.
You were getting ready inside the back room that was reserved for you and the bridesmaids. You were about to step into your dress when there was a knock at the door. You walked over but didn’t open it immediately.
“Who is it?”
“It’s me,” Nestor’s voice came from the other side of the door.
“Go away!” you laughed, “You can’t see me yet!”
“I have something for you,” he chuckled.
“Slide it under the door.”
“Can’t,” you could hear the amusement in his tone.
“Okay, I’ll send one of the girls to get it.”
“I don’t think you should.”
“Seriously, Nes?” you sighed, yanking the door open and immediately bursting into laughter as he almost fell to the floor upon losing the support the door had been providing him with, “What’s up? Whatcha got for me?”
“You look beautiful,” his eyes traveled up and down your body.
You laughed, “You say that any time you see me in my underwear,” you shook your head, “You said you have something for me?”
“Oh,” he nodded, “Right,” he made a big show of patting down the pockets of his slacks, coming up with nothing.
“Nestor,” you shook your head, “What do you—”
“Got it,” he nodded, hands still empty.
“What is—”
You didn’t get to finish your sentence as he pulled you into him and pressed his lips to yours. You laughed into your kiss, leaning more of your weight onto him as he tried to bring you closer still. His lips moved hungrily against yours and for a moment you completely forgot about the rest of the day.
He pulled back, a small, satisfied smile on his face. You laughed, a little breathless, “That’s what you had to give me?”
“Aren’t you glad I didn’t give it to the bridesmaids?” he laughed as you gave him a playful shove, “I just wanted to give you our last kiss before we get married—before you’re my wife.”
You smiled, lightly caressing his cheek, “You’re a sap, Mr. Oceteva.”
“But?” he leaned into your touch.
“But I love you,” you lightly pushed him away, “Now get going so I can get ready and we can get married.”
He chuckled as he walked away, “Yes ma’am.”
The first part of the ceremony felt like a little bit of a blur. How you were supposed to think about anything besides the man standing in front of you, you had no idea. His first time seeing you in your wedding gown was one of the only times you’d ever seen Nestor with tears in his eyes. His smile was infectious as his eyes glassed over with tears watching you walk down the aisle. You noticed him fidgeting slightly with his hands, fighting the urge to reach out and touch you.
You drank in the sight of him standing in front of you, within arm’s reach but you couldn’t hold him the way that you wanted to in that moment. In all the years that you’d known Nestor, this was the first time you’d ever seen him go out of his way to do something different and special with his hair—stepping out of the comfort zone of his typical two long braids. His hair was still braided, but the braids ran back along his head leading to a bun. Every fiber of your being wanted to reach out and run your fingers along the patterns the braids created, but you knew that there would be time for that later. His tuxedo jacket was black on black brocade, his yellow shades in the pocket where a pocket square should’ve been, and it made you smile. His vest and tie were solid black to go with his slacks, and a crisp white shirt underneath to tie it all together. Your heart felt like it was beating at a million miles a minute inside your chest as the ceremony got underway.
The jitters refused to subside when you heard the words, “And now the couple has prepared their own vows.”
The two of you had agreed that Nestor would go first, but he hadn’t even started speaking yet and you already felt a stray tear escape and trickle down your face. You knew he saw it too, and he reached out and slid his hands into yours. Your hands shook slightly and he gave them a reassuring squeeze as he started to speak.
“I remember so clearly,” a smile took over his face, “the first time I thought to myself, I’m so in love with her. We weren’t even dating yet,” he chuckled, trying to pretend that he didn’t feel the tears gathering in his eyes again, “and that thought was immediately followed up with oh god I am in so deep. And it should’ve been scary—but it wasn’t. Every fear and doubt that I had faded away instantly the second you looked at me and smiled. And no matter how much time goes by you still have that effect on me. Every time I look at you, the world instantly gets a brighter. There aren’t,” he took a shaky breath, trying not to lose his composure, “there aren’t a lot of things that I can promise you, not a lot of things that I can say will be forever. But if there is nothing else in the world that I can promise you, I can still say this—everything that I have to give is yours for as long as you want it. You’ve helped me become a man that I didn’t think I could be, given me a life I never thought that I would be able to have. You’ve been my rock, my best friend, the only person who cares enough to be honest about when I need to shave my face and redo my braids,” he laughed through the tears, “And I can’t wait to spend the rest of our lives together. I love you, and I can’t wait to be your husband.”
All the time you’d spent on your makeup was officially a waste. You couldn’t even try to stop the tears that you shed, unable to wipe them or the smile off your face. You took a few deep, unsteady breaths as you tried to get it together enough to begin your vows. You laughed as you sniffled, “I don’t know why I let you go first,” you took another deep breath, “Ever since I met you, I don’t think that there’s been a day that’s gone by that I haven’t wanted to spend with you. No matter what happens in a day, no matter what life has thrown at us, you are always the first person that I think of. There is so much out of our control, but day after day we wake up and keep choosing each other. And if we keep doing that, the rest doesn’t matter—we can take on whatever the world has in store for us as long as we’re together. Life with you has always been, and I hope it always will be, an adventure,” you squeezed his hands lightly, “I love you beyond measure,” you felt your bottom lip starting to tremble again, “You’re my best friend, and the love of my life, and I,” you sniffled, “I can’t believe that I’m lucky enough to be your wife.”
There were a few beats of silence to let the weight of both your words and Nestor’s settle in before you and Nestor both snapped back to attention upon hearing, “Do we have the rings?”
You repeated back the words that you had studied day after day for weeks in an attempt to say them as smoothly as possible. You smiled as you slid the ring onto his finger, “With this ring, I marry you and bind my life to yours. It is a symbol of my eternal love, my everlasting friendship, and the promise of all my tomorrows,” you traced your finger over the band once more before releasing his hand.
Nestor took your still-shaking hand into his, smiling as he delicately slipped the ring onto your finger, “With this ring, I marry you and bind my life to yours. It is a symbol of my eternal love, my everlasting friendship, and the promise of all my tomorrows,” he kept his hands entwined with yours.
All eyes were on you, “Do you take Nestor to be your husband, for better or worse, in sickness and in health, for as long as you both shall live?”
You nodded, all the trembles gone from your body, “I do.”
“Nestor, do you take—”
“I do,” he didn’t even wait for the rest of the question, causing both of you and everyone in attendance to laugh.
When the chuckles had subsided, “By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you husband and wife,” they paused, “You may now kiss the bride!”
Nestor’s smile was as broad as you’d ever seen it as he pulled you in, spinning and dipping you as he pressed his lips to yours. You smiled as you cupped the sides of his face in both your hands, locking your lips onto his. He braced one arm underneath your shoulder blades while his other hand rested on the back of your thigh, completely supporting your body weight as he kissed you. if there was a way to live in that moment forever you would’ve done it.
He brought you upright again, both of you laughing as your foreheads touched in the midst of people clapping and cheering for the two of you. Despite the noise and the excitement, you locked your eyes onto Nestor’s.
“I love you,” you stroked your thumb along his cheekbone.
He placed his hand over yours, “I love you too.”
He tangled his fingers with yours as the two of you turned to face the rows of people there to share your day with you. You both started to make your way back down the aisle together, hands entwined. Looking over to the side at him, you found him already looking at you, both of you grinning from ear to ear. As you reveled in the sensation of him giving your hand a squeeze, all you could think about was that forever looked good on him.

When Monsters come out to Play
✤ Trickster!Hongjoong + reader (feat. Wooyoung) ✤ genre: Dead by Daylight AU // horror, angst (not really tho), survival mode ✤ t/w: sfw, rated M, contains: swearing/depictions of violence + blood/unhinged minds/death scene/mentions of weapons ✤ count: 1.9k+
a/n - have y’all seen Trickster from the dbd game? I would betray everyone in game for that man. So this piece is heavily inspired by that character & his lore, my mind is still reeling that the creators really did THAT. A few tweaks from the canonverse but hope you guys enjoy this wild ride! 💙
✛ play these vibes: Sub Urban - ‘Cirque’, P!ATD - ‘Emperor's New Clothes‘, Gi-DLE - ‘Oh my god’ ✛
Tumblr media
Neon lights streaked across his face and dark ash hair, illuminating the silver that hung around his neck. Sharp kohl-lined eyes fixed on the two other figures dancing heartily around the karaoke booth, singing at the top of their lungs. Although one could argue that their borderline screams could be passable as so.
However, it was music to his ears and a hunger woke from its deep slumber. This feeling that was on the crisp of being foreign to him because he has not yearned for something this badly for quite some time now.
“I need it.”
The shrill cadence of the laughter from the figure who nearly tripped over his own feet, in a harmonious duet with the other’s. A soprano-like noise escaped your mouth when you fell from grace unto the lap of your newly-acquired friend who narrowly moved his wild berries cider out of harm’s way.
“I want it.”
You missed the rapacious glint in his eyes as you shouted at the other howling male, who was now in a heap on the couch and microphone dangling from his hand. You turned to apologise, with a peck on his cheek, to your angel of music. As you had so kindly dubbed him upon your first meeting. Peals of laughter fell from your lips when his onyx-dipped nails squeezed your sensitive sides. He was buzzing, not just from his drink but the sudden inspiration to create once more.
The spotlight has returned and centre stage beckons him home.
Yes, he wanted it.
“All of it.”
Tumblr media
“C’mon! This way,” Wooyoung heaved sharply, tugging you with haste round the corner.
His grip on your hand, though sweaty, was desperately firm. Survival instincts had kicked in for the both of you, forcing adrenaline to fuel your exhausted bodies to run.
Agonised screams plagued the foggy darkness around your surroundings. Another fallen prey in this twisted game of cat-and-mouse you were forced to participate in. You didn’t know exactly how many others were stuck in the abandoned industrial site either. One minute Wooyoung and you were having a late night study at the local library, before the lights cut and so did your consciousness.
A manic laugh that echoed through the grounds and jerk of your arm wrenched you from your hazy thoughts.
Wooyoung held you close to him, signalling for you to stay hushed. He peered around the metal storage container to see if the coast was clear, not that the fog allowed anything to be visible more than beyond a few feet ahead. So he had to rely on sound and visual tracking of any sudden movements.
The dead silence was unnerving.
You had barely stepped out around your hiding spot once you’ve both deemed it safe when Wooyoung hissed in panic, “Watch out!”
You were dragged to the hard ground, scraping your palms on the gravel before what felt like a bee zipping past the crown of your head. The metallic thud caught your attention enough to swerve to look behind you. Where your head had been just a few seconds ago, now had a neon blade embedded right through the steel panel.
“Fuck! He’s coming, we need to go. NOW!”
The manic laughter seemed to be echoing all over your surroundings now, and not being able to pinpoint the direction whilst having to run blindly in the dark probably wasn’t the ideal plan for your survival.
Your breath hitched when Wooyoung’s hand suddenly slipped out from yours.
“Wooyoung!” you cried out for him.
“RUN!”
A forceful shove pushed you away from the initial direction you were heading towards, causing you to be thrown off balance and stumble onto the damp ground. The sounds of more cussing and a scuffle could be heard. You scrambled backwards, away from the source.
Scarce beams of moonlight filtered through the holes in the roof provided limited light to help you navigate your way around, using your sense of touch to avoid running into objects. Your mind screamed for you to turn back for Wooyoung yet the logical side of you knew he’d be mad at you for not using the window of opportunity he so freely gave to escape.
“He knows how to fight, he can handle himself.”
False comfort was the only thing you could offer yourself then. Skidding round a corner, you almost bowled someone over had they not latched onto your shoulders first.
“Please! You have to help me!”
The young woman was hysterical and dug her nails into your skin as she had her iron grip on you. Seeing her up close you were quick to notice both her arms and clothes were stained dark crimson, whether or not that was her own – you couldn’t tell.
“He’s going to kill me! He’s going to KILL ME!”
You winced as her voice became progressively louder. That fool was going to give your location away at this rate. You tried to wriggle your way out of her hold, which proved to be a wrong move, for she threw herself against you and shook you silly.
“Get me out! I didn’t do anything wrong. Why is he doing this?!” The tears that cascaded down her grimy face mixed in with the blood and left trails of red.
She sure was getting on your nerves.
“Shut it! You’re goin-“
“There you are my little mouse.”
The both of you froze. Like deer in headlights upon hearing that sickly silky voice purr out from the shadows. The young woman immediately drew back and hid behind you, as if you were a pillar of defence against this predator. Her hands that still clutched onto the back of your top trembled so intensely, you wouldn’t be surprised if the seams were to split open.
Hongjoong took his sweet time stepping towards you. Twirling those neon blades deftly around his fingers, metal glinting dangerously whenever it caught the moonlight. The scattered beams acted as spotlights and this was his stage to run. You’d thought a paint job had gone wrong for the mess of reds, both fresh and dried, marking him from his obnoxiously bright coat to his bare toned torso to the heels of his boots.
“Aren’t you having fun?” giggled Hongjoong, making a gesture to his foggy domain by spreading his arms wide out.
“What do you want from us?! You monster!”
Her cries added fuel to the already burning flames, ironically extinguishing out the last of your patience.
“Call me something I don’t already know darling.”
The tip of his tongue darted out to lick the blood smear at the corner of his mouth.
That playful grin that had grown to be your favourite on him now looked so sinister. Hongjoong pointed one of the blades directly at you, “It’s time for you to join your little friend, I’m sure he’s already dying to reunite with you.”
“Don’t leave! Please don’t leave me!” the woman buried her face in your back. You didn’t reply to the woman but reached behind to firmly grasp her wrists. She mistook this for reassurance and to your relief, dropped her hands from your back.
Oh, how easy was it to lay the bait.
“What did you do to Wooyoung?”
Hongjoong might’ve expected you to be angry or even hurt, considering you three grew to be somewhat friends over time. Wooyoung and you had taken him under your wings when he was new to the town, and this was how he repaid you? Instead, you held his gaze and your voice didn’t waver when the question came out. If he was surprised he did not show it.
“I wanted a sample, of his music. It didn’t hurt…much…to get it!”
And the crazed twinkle reappeared in his foreign golden orbs, replacing the gentler brown eyes you were used to.
“And I want one from you too! In fact, both you and Wooyoung will be the main features of my next musical composition. I always save the best for the last, but…”
Hongjoong unfolded a fan of blades and drew his arm back into a pre-throw stance, “I’m just a tad impatient tonight and you’ve made me wait long enough angel.”
You found yourself facing down several blades making a beeline for you. To hell with the theatrics if Hongjoong thought he had waited long enough. You had done yours far longer, for the pure satisfaction of being able to rip the limelight away from one who thrives in it – in the perfect moment.
Within the few milliseconds you had left, you harshly yanked what you still had within your grasp to the front.
The applause died down and silence consumed the area.
Hongjoong tilted his head with curiosity and eyes widened by a miniscule at the scene before him. A choked gurgle. The blades had all found their marks on a new target and the corners of your lips curled up as you felt the life drained from the woman’s body before it went limp. Finally, the pest ceased to exist.
“Oh Hongjoong…”
There was a vicious edge to the tone of your voice now, and you let the ragdoll of a body fall into a heap by your feet. You bent down to pluck one of the blades from her body and nonchalantly inspected it. Not really having a care that the pool of red was starting to creep towards your feet.
“…Or would you rather I address you as, Trickster?”
A flicker of surprise, or supposedly irritation, passed over his features. Hongjoong clicked his tongue and slowly dropped his arms back down. What were you exactly playing at? This was his game, not yours.
“Word’s been around. And hearing about the Trickster perked our curiosity…so of course we just had to meet you.”
The puzzle pieces were starting to click together – Hongjoong merely became an actor in this script you gave him. Having Wooyoung and you cross paths with Hongjoong was a crafted intention.
Yet, what made the seeds of anger burst under his skin more so was the climax you denied him.
Hongjoong let out low grunt when one of his knees gave way under him, effectively bringing him down. A hand roughly grabbed the back of his freshly dyed silver hair and forced his head forward.
“When in the presence of the queen, you should be bowing. It’s only courteous, no?”
The dolphin-like laugh followed wasn’t hard to recognise who it belonged to. Another flick of his wrist, Wooyoung manoeuvred Hongjoong like a marionette. Thin, almost-invisible strings gleamed under the tiniest fleck of moonlight. Hongjoong would’ve attempted to sever his ties free but at what cost? Wooyoung prided himself in giving the cleanest cut each time he got bored of his new toy.
You scoffed at the nickname Wooyoung used, with slight affection.
“Hate to burst your bubble hon, but you’re not that special,” Wooyoung continued his mocking. Stepping aside to let you crouch in front of Hongjoong, he watched on with eagerness as you tilted Hongjoong’s chin with his own neon blade you were holding from before.
“Little musician, you’re the new kid who strolled into our playground. And…”
Hongjoong’s eyes darted to look over your shoulder, at a few other figures who started to appear out of the dark. You tapped his chin to garner his attention once more. His golden eyes met your now, brilliant ruby red ones. A venomous smile stretched across your lips with your pupils forming into slits.
“…unfortunately, there isn’t enough room for another monster to play around this part of town. “
“However, should you put on another show somewhere else…” suggested the one wearing a white crow’s mask, voice deceptively child-like.
You hummed at the idea. Fingers slowly tracing the playful grin that was already growing back on Hongjoong. It’d be a waste to get rid of such a pretty face wouldn’t it?
“We’d gladly come as your audience when you take the centre stage once more.”

I will protect you; Always
I will protect you; Always: Rengoku x Gender Neutral Reader
I decided that I would write a little something for @sakurazoe urazoe because he has written a bunch of my stuff and I just thought it would be far to write one for him. I hope that you enjoy it!<3
Song: Middle Finger- Bohnes
Genre: FLUFF/ little bit of angst but not that much
Pairing: Kyojuro Rengoku x GN Reader
Kyojuro waved happily when he saw your face in the crowd. “Y/n! Thank you so much for coming!” He called out hugging you tightly. You returned the hug and smiled brightly at your best friend. “It's been a while since I last saw you Kyojuro. How have you been?” You asked. Kyojuro shrugged his shoulders. “I became the flame pillar. OH! That’s right. I need to introduce you to the young demon slayers that are accompanying me on this mission.” He said, grabbing your hand and walking onto the train. You laughed at how happy he was. ‘I miss this.’ You thought. “Tanjiro! I have a friend that I want you and the others to meet.” Kyojuro called out.
A boy with red hair, and eyes walked out of the room that Kyojuro was standing next to. His eyes lit up and a smile appeared on his face. “It’s nice to meet you! My name is Tanjiro Kamado.” He said holding his hand out. You smiled and shook his hand. “Y/n.” You replied. You shifted your twin blades on your back and sat down. You watched as three other people appeared. They each said their names and when it came time for the girl to say her name, she shied away and hid behind Tanjiro. “This is my little sister Nezuko. She was changed into a demon by Muzan and I want to find a way to get her back to being a human again.” He said.
Y/n smiled at how gentle the boy was with his sister. “I will gladly help you find a way Tanjiro. I want to find that way as well.” You said. Tanjiro beamed up at you. He hugged you tightly to which you hugged him back with a smile on your face. “Also, I have been meaning to ask, why do you dress that way? Aren’t you a demon slayer too?” Zenitsu asked. You smiled and shook your head. “I am my own independent demon slayer. I don’t work with Kyojuro as a demon slayer. It may sound weird but I have my reason why.” You said. “Can I ask what your breathing technique is?” Tanjiro asked. You smiled and nodded your head.
“I am a blue fire breather. I’m similar to Kyojuro but my flames burn a little hotter. Another name for it actually is called Hell Fire. I don’t have to cut the demons head off if I don’t feel like it. I can just burn them alive with my fire.” You said. You wrapped the black cloak around your body as a sudden chill shot up your back. Kyojuro saw this and immediately wrapped you in a hug. His body was warm against your always cold form. You sighed in content and leaned closer to his chest. You had always had feelings for the male but you couldn’t ever bring yourself to tell him because you didn’t know if he felt the same way.
You groaned when the lower moon one demon managed to slam his foot into your side. You raised your sword and sliced through his leg causing him to fall and scream in pain. “Y/n, we can take care of the rest. Please go help Rengoku-San!” Tanjiro’s voice held panic in it as he spoke. You  turned your head just in time to see Kyojuro raise his sword to strike the demon down. However, you could also see the demon duck down and throw his fist towards his chest. Your eyes widened in sheer rage as you raced forward.
You swords connected with the upper moon’s fist, cutting it from the arm. The demon stumbled back as you stood in front of the hashira. Your eyes burned with rage as you glared the male down. You ripped your cloak from your body showing the world what you really looked like. You held one of her swords out towards the demon and snarled. “I dare you. Try that stunt again and watch your head sail off your body.” You hissed. You were known as the endless sun by the demons that you faced. Her fire may be blue, but she would shine as brightly as the sun every time she used her fire.
The upper moon glared you down and stood up. He knew what your fire would do to demons and he just laughed. He raised his other hand and slammed it against his burning arm. You watched with utter rage as the burning appendage turned to ash but he was still there. “I’m not as dumb as the other demons are. I know that your fire can burn a demon just like the sun can. Muzan told us about you long before you knew about us.” He said. “Akaza…” Your voice had dangerously lowered and your body language spoke rage. Your face was hidden by the shadows and your hair. Akaza just laughed at you. Taunted you, and called you  names.
He stopped however when you lifted your head up fast. Your eyes were wide but held so much rage and anger in them. You pulled your lips back into a snarl and bent your body down. Your swords on either of your sides before you launched towards the upper moon. You swung your swords around as the blue flames swirled around. Akaza wasn’t able to keep up with your fast movements and could feel his body getting hit and not being able to stop the burning and the fire from killing him. He threw his fist towards your face only to watch you disappear from his sight. He froze but soon felt your presence behind him. He turned but was too late. Your swords ripped through his neck. The sound of his head being cleanly cut off was enough to stop the other demon in his tracks. Tanjiro cleanly cut the demon's head off.
You dropped to your knees when your adrenaline wore off. You took deep breaths as your body did everything to recover from the fighting and blocking. You had over used your fire and your were going to feel the effects of that tomorrow when you woke up. Kyojuro knelt down in front of you and took your hands in his. “You were amazing Y/n. I didn’t know you had that much power stored up.” He said. You smiled softly in your weak state before your body gave out and you fell against his chest. Kyojuro smiled softly before picking you up in his arms. He motioned for the other and jumped from the train. The others followed suit and jumped from the train as well.
Kyojuro held Y/n in his arms as they waited for the sun to start rising. Tanjiro and his friends were tired and they dropped to the ground taking deep breaths. Kyojuro smiled at each of them before whistling to his crow. “Let the master know that the job is finished and that we are coming back home. Let him know to tell Shinobu to set up a few beds and get some medicine ready.” He said. The crow nodded its head before taking off and heading back towards HQ. Kyojuro turned to the three slayers sitting on the ground.
“We are almost done. Lets head back to HQ so we can get some medicine and relax before the next mission requires us again.” He said. He carried Y/n all the way back to HQ with a smile present on his face. He was happy to be home again and planned on visiting his family with you when you woke back up. He also planned to tell you how he felt too. He laid in the bed prepared for them at the Butterfly Estate and found himself staring at the ceiling. His eyes were growing heavy the longer he laid there. ‘It wouldn't hurt to take a small nap.’ He thought. He closed his eyes and within seconds, the male was fast asleep. Aoi would check up on them a few times a day to make sure they were still at least breathing before she left them alone for the day. Shinobu would also make it her job as well to check up on them.
A few days had passed when you were finally able to leave the butterfly estate. The training you had to go through to build your stamina and strength back up were brutal. You rubbed your back and winced when the pain was still there. “Ah! Y/n you’re awake!” Kyojuro’s voice called out. You turned and faced the said male and a bright smile appeared on your face. You ran over to him and wrapped your arms around him in a tight hug. “I’m so happy that you are ok! I thought I was going to lose you on that train!” You cried out. Kyojuro smiled softly and wrapped his arms around your waist. He buried his face in your neck and sighed.
“No, you saved me and the other four. I’m just happy that you are awake now. You were asleep for a long time and I was worried.” He admitted. His face heating up in a blush. You smiled and tightened your hug. “Well, we made that promise to each other when we were younger. Do you remember that?” You said. Kyojuro smiled and took your hand in his. They started walking towards his home to visit his family. “Yeah. I remember that promise.” He said smiling at the memory.
Memory:
“Kyo! You and I have to make a promise now that I won’t be able to play with you anymore!”  a small y/n called out. Kyojuro turned and smiled brightly. He lifted his pinky to your pinky.
“I promise to always protect you.” They both said hooking their pinkies together. Both families watched the two with smiles on their faces. Kyojuro and Y/n grinned widely at each other.
“You can’t break that promise Kyojuro. I will know if you did.” Y/n said. Kyojuro gave you his award winning smile and pulled you into a hug making their parents gush over the two 5 year old's.
“I promise Y/n. I won’t ever leave you.” He said. Y/n smiled and giggled before the two returned to playing around the yard.
Memory End:
Kyojuro tugged on your  sleeve making you stop. “Is something wrong?” You asked, turning to face the male. Before you knew it, Kyojuro leaned down and pressed his lips against yours. His hand reached up to hold the side of your face in a gentle manner. You felt your eyes slowly close and you pressed your lips back against his. Your hand reached up to press against his hand that held your face. When oxygen was needed, the two pulled apart and stared at each other.
A small blush present on the Flame Pillar’s face making him turn his head to the side as he tried to call the raging blush. “I-I’m sorry. I don’t know what came over me.” he said. You smiled and took his face in your hands. You stood on her tippy toes and pressed your lips against his lips in a chaste kiss. “Don’t be sorry. I liked it.” You whispered. Kyojuro smiled and pulled you into a hug. You smiled as you wrapped your arms around him and hugged him back. “I’m just glad to have your back in my arms again Y/n.” He whispered as they released each other from the hug. He took your hand as you both began walking down the street again.
You smiled and intertwined his and your fingers together. “Me too. It's been so long since we last saw each other. The letter’s were great and all but I wanted to see you in person.” You said looking up at the male. You leaned your head on his shoulder before they reached his home. Senjuro, his younger brother was sweeping up some fallen leaves when he saw the two walking towards him. He dropped the broom when he saw Y/n. He smiled and raced towards the two throwing himself at them and hugging the two.
Y/n and Kyojuro caught the boy with ease and started laughing. Kyojuro’s father heard the commotion and walked outside. He was getting ready to yell at Senjuro for not finishing his chores but stopped when he caught sight Kyojuro and Y/n. He smiled. He remembered the last time his sons had played with you. They were so precious. He walked over to them and pulled all three of them into a hug. Kyojuro looked to his dad only to see tears forming in his eyes. “I was so worried that I wouldn’t see you again Kyojuro.” He whispered. Kyojuro smiled and hugged his father.
His dad may have been harsh to him and his younger brother, but he could see that he was just worried and scared that the two would end up going the way that he had gone. Y/n smiled. “It’s great to see you again Rengoku-San. How is everyone?” You asked. Kyojuro’s father looked down. “My wife died a long time ago. And as for your family, I kept in touch with them but one day their letters stopped coming. I received word that a demon attacked in your hometown and I wanted to make sure that everyone was alright but…” He stopped talking. Y/n looked down. You had lost your family in that demon attack. Tears welled up in your eyes before you whipped them away.
“It’s alright. They lived a good life. Now, I want to hang out with you guys and also tell you that me and Kyojuro are going to start dating.” You said changing the subject real fast. “Y/n, why did you tell them that. Now my dad is going to…” He wasn’t able to finish his sentence as his dad's shoe flew past his and your face. Their eyes widened and Kyojuro took off in a dead sprint as his dad chased after him screaming. You couldn't help but laugh before you felt Senjuro hug your side again.
“You and Nii-san kept the promise you both made didn't you?” He asked. You were surprised that he knew about the promise but then smiled. “Kyojuro told you about that promise didn’t he?” You asked. Senjuro nodded his head. “He did. He told me that it was the best promise that he had ever made.” He said. Y/n smiled. “It was an amazing promise. We both kept it to this point. That means we never wanted to go back on each other's promise to each other. I’m just happy he contacted me before he had to leave on the mission.” You said. You and Senjuro watched as Kyojuro begged  his dad not to kill him and laughed. This was going to be a great new life for you. You were the happiest you had ever been.
Kyojuro looked back over at you and a soft smile appeared on his lips. He held his arms out and motioned for you. You smiled brightly and raced into his open arms. “Damn, I love you so much.” You whispered. Kyojuro smiled and pressed his lips against your forehead. “And I love you too.” He whispered back before pressing his lips against your in the best kiss you had ever experienced. You could get use to kissing this man everyday.

“I’ve decided I don’t want to do this anymore. I’m going home.”
“Jack!” You grabbed him by his elbow just as he turned. “You can’t abandon me!”
He looked a bit terrified. “I can’t do this, Y/N.”
You rolled your eyes. “Sure you can. Jody is awesome and you’re so cute. I know she will like you.”
Jack did not look convinced. A tiny part of you was nervous with him. He was about to meet his girlfriend's mom for the first time. After calling Sam to tell him that you were up for the picnic, the wild optimism in his voice had you wearing out the carpet of your living room, freaking out about messing it up- for Sam and for Max. As a last resort, you had knocked on your neighbour’s door and convinced Jack to accompany you. As it turned out, Claire had been after him for a while to meet her family, and Jack being Jack was worrying the hell out of it.
Now, you stood in front of the gate of your building, waiting for Sam to come pick you up, and not letting each other chicken out of this situation. That’s what friends did.
“It’s not just Jody,” Jack admitted. “It’s also your husband.”
Your heart still lurched at the word. “Sam? What about him?”
Jack groaned, rolling his head. “I don’t know. You’re our Y/N… and then suddenly we find out you’re married. I really want to like him, but he’ll take you away from us.”
You were touched by his words, and the innocence in them. “No one can take me away. In fact, this is just my grand scheme to make sure that you’re stuck with me for life now. I’ve been slowly getting you hooked to the cookies. Soon there will come a day when you’ll realise you can't live without them. And then you just can’t get rid of me. It’ll be too late.”
Jack smiled at you and slung his arm around your soldier. “It’s not the cookies we’re getting addicted to, it’s you.”
A car made the swift turn and came to a stop next to the gate, right in front of you- Sam’s sleek, black Mercedes.
Jack let out a low whistle. “I take it all back. You get back together with this guy and adopt me. Max is so much nicer than Kevin anyway. I'll share a room with him. I’ll do the dishes everyday.”
You were crying because of laughter by the time Sam opened his door and stepped out.
“You alright?” He asked, face startled but amused.
Nodding and gasping for breath, you made the hasty introductions. Jack gave his patented customary hand raise of a greeting with palm facing forward. Sam was going for a handshake but seeing Jack’s wave, he did the same with a smile.
From the backseat, Max called out your name. Without caring about the rest, you opened the door and got in besides him, ruffling his hair.
“Hey, Y/N, aren’t you riding shotgun?” Jack asked, voice restrained to appear casual.
“Nah, you got it. I’m going to hangout in the back with Max.”
Jack might be looking daggers at you for throwing him under the bus, but you knew he’d live. Sam was excellent company. In the next fifteen minutes of the ride, you were proven right, because Jack was busy discussing the mysterious circumstances under which Edgar Allan Poe died, and how The murders in Rue Morgue was actually his best work. Sam was exceptionally well read and Jack was in his element with literature discussions.
You turned to Max, showing him your basket. “Look, what I got for you- your favourite cookies and a pie!”
He let out a squeal of delight and you snuck a cookie out for him.
The car was spotless, rich upholstery gleaming, but you knew Sam couldn’t care less if Max got crumbs on the seats. Right on track, Max dug into the cookie, not bothering about the mess. Secretly, it pleased you that you were beginning to decode their relationship.
“I didn’t know what the others would like, so I baked muffins and some savoury croissants. You think that’s okay?”
“Stop gnawing over it, Y/N,” Sam said. “Everyone’s gonna love it.”
You didn’t think he was even paying any attention to you. Course you were wrong. His eyes were melting in the rearview mirror as he smiled at you.
“Y/N woke up at 4:30 in the morning to get everything set,” Jack added.
You bent forward to look at him. “How do you know that?”
“I could hear your beater whirring. Thin walls.”
“That woke you up? I’m so sorry, Jack!”
Jack snorted. “Was she always like this?”
“Always,” said Sam, with all the warmth. You could feel the heat in your chest.
For the rest of the ride, you happily listened to Max chatter about the badminton racquet in the trunk and Claire’s home bowling set. He was such a joy to listen to when he was just being a kid and not careful. You listened very attentively, picking out the things that were only in the subtext of his words. Max loved these people- Jody, her girls and even Chase. He knew their habits and their natures like a family. Sam must have relied on them a lot and often.
You were so lost in Max’s words, that the car was already silently cruising along the San Francisco bay. The water stretched by one side of the road. Instinctively, you tightened the grip on Max’s hand.
Why hadn’t you thought to ask where the picnic was!
As it turned out, the place they had chosen was very serene… The little landscape was a small distance walk from the highway, secluded enough that it wasn’t frequented, but beautiful nonetheless. Tall, full trees dominated the landscape. The rich fall colours, oddly made the shade underneath brighter somehow, inviting. The shadows of the trees bleeded into an open, grassy area and ultimately into the sandy, pebbly waterline of the bay.
You wrinkled your nose at the sight of nestled ducks. Sam smirked at you. Was he remembering the same afternoon? When you had tried to feed the ducks Sam and Dean’s epic failure of muffins?
Two girls were already laying out an assortment of food on the blanket. The blonde turned at the sound of Max’s hoots and her face brightened at the site of Jack. It was adorable. Alex still had her hand in a cast and Jody was hauling a cane chair from behind. All of them looked in a jovial mood. Maybe the whole sneaking out at night debacle was behind them.
Alex greeted you first when you reached them. “It’s great to see you again, Mrs. Winchester.”
You felt rather than saw Sam’s eyes flash towards you. Smiling, you sat down next to her. “Y/N is just fine, Alex. You don’t have to change names all of a sudden.”
Both she and Claire were a little wide eyed. Your situation had clearly been a topic of discussion with them. This girl they randomly knew as Max’s friend or Jack’s neighbor was now suddenly Sam’s wife. It must’ve been bizarre. After sharing a few pleasantries with Jody, you pulled out your own basket.
You had to admit, the reactions were very mollifying as they dug into the muffins, pies and croissants, moaning with closed eyes. Sam gave you a sideways smirk at their reaction.
“That’s it,” Jody declared. “You’re passing the rest of the semester for legal writing without handing in a single assignment. The muffins alone… mmm.”
“Save me some,” Sam complained. It was mostly aimed at Jody.
She scowled at him. “You stop making those eyes at me, Winchester. I’m not giving up my share.” When you giggled she turned towards you. “Did he always do that?”
“Puppy dog eyes of doom? Yeah… always.”
“You make that shit work for you in the court, don’t you? That’s how you win all of them cases,” she grumbled.
“How rude!”
You turned at the offended sound. Chase stood behind you with arms crossed over his chest.
“You guys started eating without me?” He huffed, sitting down on your other side and turned to Max. “Your dad, I can expect that from. Since when did you turn into such an Iago?”
“I saved you the cookies,” Max said promptly, pulling the bag from behind him. There was a small furor which was mostly the girls complaining about how they didn’t know there were cookies. It ended with Chase clutching the bag to his chest.
“Flee away, children,” he said. “I need the cookies to mend my broken heart.”
“What happened to your girlfriend? Weren’t you bringing her with you?” Sam asked.
Chase threw him a very impressive shade. “She dumped me, Samuel.”
“Why?”
“She couldn’t bear that I was prettier than her.”
You suspected Chase was just playing it out for the cookies. He did not look heartbroken in the least.
Once the food stash was considerably depleted, the girls, Jack and Max, picked up the racquets and divided their teams for Badminton. When Max insisted that you join them, Sam vehemently supported your argument of terrible hand-eye coordination. He knew and much like yourself, did not want to put other people in the way of the harm that you might inflict. In the end, only the group of four ended up on the blankets. Sam, Jody, you and Chase who was almost lying on his side, head resting on his hand, propped up on an elbow. He looked younger in a t-shirt and jeans.
“I still can’t believe you can cook all of this by yourself! No wonder Sam didn’t want to junk the marriage.”
“Chase!” Sam admonished, mortified, but you enjoyed Chase’s unapologetic behaviour, being all too tired of people stepping on eggshells around you- especially Sam.
“No, it’s alright,” you said, grinning at Chase, who returned your grin with a wink.
“You don’t happen to have a sister, do you?” He enquired.
“Well, actually…”
“Someone other than Jo,” he added quickly. “God knows I won’t survive a minute if I went toe to toe with Dean Winchester. One Winchester is enough to keep me in line.”
Sam threw Chase his classic bitchface then went back to his conversation with Jody. Eyeing his absorption, Chase tilted his head towards the side, “Care to join me for a walk, Y/N?”
You chanced a look at Sam, who was busy discussing a faculty matter and nodded. As quietly as you could, the two of you got up and moved away.
“So, did you end up applying? To Acton Gris, I mean?” He asked, hooking his thumbs in the pockets of his pants.
“I did, the very evening. I’m trying not to be too hopeful.”
His green eyes regarded you. “Now, whyever would you do that?”
“Because I’m a realist and I know what type of competition I’m up against.”
Chase chuckled. “You’re too idealistic, Y/N. Even more than Mr. Mc-dreamy over there. Never thought I’d see him topped in that category. I’m still hopeful. Looks like I’m the only one.”
“Why do you care?” You asked. “What does it matter to you if I end up in Acton Gris or not?”
“It doesn’t. I think it would be great for your career and it’s my duty being from the same alma mater to further your cause.”
You raised an eyebrow in disbelief. “And this has nothing to do with Sam.”
Chase was quiet for a long time, watching his steps as you strolled along the waterline, a safe distance away from it. You had given up on expecting an answer and were just beginning to wonder what would be a good time to turn around and head back when he finally spoke, “I’ll admit I haven’t been your biggest fan, Y/N. Sam never said a word against you… and that is exactly what pissed me off.”
This was in line with what you had pretty much already assumed so it didn’t come as a surprise.
“I’m telling you this because I know you ain’t a snowflake,” said Chase. “You don’t have the liberty to be a snowflake after everything you’ve been through. I also know you don’t care about my opinion of you.”
“That still doesn’t answer my question,” you pointed out.
He sighed. “I suggested that you try at Acton Gris not for Sam’s sake but mine. That part I told you about- how Sam’s too high up to be involved with paralegals- is one hundred percent true. But I wanted to get to know you for myself.”
“To see if I was any good for Sam?”
Chase snorted. “This whole deal makes me sound like Sam’s possessive mistress but I am protective of him… and of his boy over there. I’ve been around for the start of that story, and they’ve been hurt enough. I am cad for saying this but I just didn’t trust you enough, and Sam being Sam was pining after you from day one… it’s quite tiresome to watch.”
“And now what? You suddenly approve of me? I passed some invisible test?”
“You guys are already married, who the heck am I to set a test for you? For the majority part I was telling the truth, you know. You’d flourish at Acton Gris. It would make you happy and Sam would be over the moon. But I still want to get to know you better.” He paused. “I haven’t had the best of family life growing up. More money than I could count, but my mother ditched me and my dad before I could spell out her name. I’ve seen him miserable for all his life… and well, it gave me mommy issues to last a lifetime.” Chase winked. “So all the meddling is clearly not me projecting my childhood abandonment issues on you. Clearly!”
Chase’s blunt honesty surprised you. He owed you nothing at all. Yet here he was answering all your questions. While he was at it, you decided to ask one more.
“Now you think I won’t break Sam’s heart?”
He looked at you and shook his head lightly. “I don’t know that. What I do know is that you won’t be able to break his heart without breaking your own first. I’ve only ever wanted him to be happy. Tried setting him up with a hundred girls, the guy just wouldn’t budge. Then you come back and it’s fucking sunshine all over his face. I know when to give up.”
Oddly, you understood exactly where Chase was coming from. He was so strongly rooted in Sam’s corner, all of his thoughts were biased, even if it meant being critical and wary of you. You hadn’t tried to achieve it, but somewhere in the middle you had gained both Chase’s confidence and his liking.
“What’s it like working under Sam?” You asked, changing the topic as well as voicing a curiosity.
Chase gave you a look. “Now or then?”
“Both,” you said after a minute.
“You’ve got to know, I used to look up to Sam when I was at Stanford- not that he knew I existed back then. He was in the final year, I was in the first, and he was everything I wanted to be- Top of his class, valedictorian, popular with the ladies. I applied at Johnson’s because of that.” He paused, continuing only after an encouraging look from you. “He was nothing like I remembered. Every time I faced him, there was a very real risk of being fired for the smallest mistake.”
Chase laughed. You did not. He was describing a Sam you couldn’t imagine, a Sam that shouldn’t have existed.
“Now he’s my best friend. At any rate, he’s about the only person who puts up with my dumb antics.”
“He puts up with a lot from a lot of people,” you murmured, absentmindedly staring at the lake.
A small moment caught your eye. The birdy that had been flying back and forth between the girls and the boys, flew over a bit too high and far. And as a reflex, Max, his eyes up, backed away fast.
“No!” You were already running by the time you realised that the terrified scream was yours.
“No, no… Chirp!” You shouted, but it was too late as the boy’s feet hit the wet slope. He slipped and tumbled back, rolling right into the water.
Your legs were aching from how hurriedly you dove after him, right into the bay, lashing in the water till your hands found Max’s body. Yanking him out of the water and against your body, you backed off quickly. You cradled his body on the sandy shore, frantically checking his face, arms to make sure he was alright. Max didn’t look hurt, just shocked and a bit scared.
“Are you okay?” You asked, too loudly. Max nodded.
Hands landed on your shoulder, your head. Voices told you to let go but you did not release Max, not till another voice murmured in your ear, “It’s alright, Y/N. He’s okay.”
You turned on Sam. “Why did you let him near water? Why weren’t you paying any attention?” You yelled, not relinquishing your hold on Max.
Sam crouched down before you, not attempting to reach out to Max, who was staring wide eyed at you.
“What if something had happened to him?” You wiped at your tears with the back of your hand. “He’s just a little boy! How could you be so careless?”
Sam shrugged out of his jacket and carefully wrapped it around your shoulders.
“Max is alright,” he said calmly, “You can let go of him.”
“No!”
“Y/N, you’re all wet and you’re starting to shake. Get inside the car before it gets worse.”
“But Max…”
“Max is fine,” Sam said in the same patient tone. “Look at the water, it’s not even waist deep. This side of the bay is very shallow for, at least, fifty yards and Max can swim very well.”
The realisation came very suddenly. Max had never been in any danger at all. The girls had sarongs on, maybe they had all intended a swim. You had needlessly created a scene, drenched Max more than he needed to be and yelled at Sam for being an irresponsible father.
The tears spilled over again but because of a different reason this time- shame. You let go of Max the next instant, staring pointedly at the ground.
Max turned in your lap. Small, soft hands came up to wipe away the tears from your eyes. “I’m sorry, Y/N,” he said. “I won’t go near the water again.”
You threw your arms around him again and sobbed against his little neck. The people around you seemed to be closing in but you didn’t want to look up at any of them. Your heartbeat was thudding erratically against Max’s head but he didn’t make a move to leave or get up.
“C’mon, girls, start packing,” Jody ordered over you. “Give Y/N some space to breathe. You, too, lover boy!”
Four sets of feet scampered away.
“Chase, take Max to the blankets. There’s a fresh set of clothes in his bag.”
You did not want to let go of the boy. Doing so would make you face Sam.
It seemed Max was reluctant as well, but with one look at Sam, he disentangled himself. You felt the softest brush of his lips on your cheek and then Max was walking away, his hand in Chase’s.
Sam put both his hands against your arms and pulled you to your feet. He drew his coat tightly around you and started walking you towards his car, his palm firmly planted against your back.
You let him, without another word as he opened the door of the passenger seat for you to get in. Sam got in on the other side and turned the heat up. Only when the car started did you shake out of the quiet.
“Wait. Max?”
“Don’t worry about him. Chase will drive him home.”
Sam’s voice betrayed no emotion. Not anger or hurt. It was as composed as the many lectures he had delivered.
Ashamed of even meeting his gaze, you tipped your head against the window, glad that the side was facing the road instead of the bay and closed your eyes. It felt like floating in bliss if you buried your emotions down- this sensation of gliding on a smooth road, the heat in the car swirling with the scent of Sam’s cologne. It felt familiar and safe.
All too soon you were jerked awake, the car easing into the driveway and coming to a stop. It was already dark outside. Somehow you had slept through the whole ride. Your clothes were completely dry.
“I’m sorry,” Sam whispered, his voice like velvet in the darkness. “I didn’t mean to wake you up.”
Straightening up, you turned to face Sam who was looking down at you with concern etched on his face. Slowly, you took his hand in yours and spoke through a hoarse voice, looking at them. “Please forgive me.” Those three words did not even begin to cover the regret you felt over what had happened. You were an outsider, looking in on Sam’s life with this strange hunger and desire. You wanted to be a part of his little family so bad, but you weren’t yet. You didn’t know Max the way Sam did, did not understand Max’s choices, and the thoughts behind them. You did not have a right to him or Sam. Ignoring all of that, you had yelled at Sam, the way a wife would yell at her husband for neglecting their child. But, Sam wasn’t neglecting Max. Max wasn’t your son and you were barely Sam’s wife.
“It was thoughtless and stupid to raise my voice at you and say those words. I forgot that Max belongs to you, that you could never be careless towards him. I had no right to yell at you in front of everyone.”
Maybe it was all for good. Let Sam see what you were capable of. If he saw the truth of how broken you were, maybe he would stop wanting you in his life. Everyone knew how hysteric you could get now. So much for Jody rooting for you. So much for Chase’s hopes of Sam getting to be happy. They all saw you for who you truly were.
“You remember what I told you the other night?” Sam asked. “When you came over and we sat by the swing?”
The lightness of his voice made you look up. He should be angry, at least, pissed.
“I told you that I didn’t care what people thought about us.”
“Doesn’t justify what I did… How it must’ve looked...”
“You know how it looked to me?”
Sam’s eyes were clear, no resentment in them. “To me it looked like you ran to protect my son without caring for your life. You didn’t know the water wasn’t deep, you can’t swim and you’re fucking terrified of water. I’m not even talking about what the cold does to you. Why on earth would I care about how this looks to anyone else?”
You were transfixed by the depth of his words.
“Those people either love you or love me. I’m sure they saw it no differently than how I see it.”
“What about Max? I must’ve scared him so bad.” The poor boy hadn’t said anything except apologise to you for stepping in the water. It hadn’t been his fault.
Sam pursed his lips. “I wouldn’t worry too much about him. I think he’s concerned about you the most.”
You put your head in your hands, weary. The fear was still an echo in your stomach despite the sleep, and it was getting stronger every minute- what if something had happened to Max?
“Can I ask you something?” Sam sounded hesitant.
“Mhmm.”
“Do you remember what you said right before you jumped in the water?”
You frowned, trying to remember. “Wasn’t I calling out to Max?” There had been no time to say anything or do anything else.
Sam’s face was tender as he said, “Yeah, you were calling out to Max.”
What a weird thing to ask! You tried harder, failing to remember what Sam was talking about.
Lights flared up behind. You leaned back, not realising just how close you were to Sam. The car coming from behind came to a halt at the start of the driveway. The doors opened and Max and Jack spilled out from either sides. Jack reached your door first. He opened it and pulled you into a hug without waiting for you to turn.
“Hey, hey, I’m okay.”
“You were shaking so bad.”
It was actually nothing compared to what Jack could have witnessed if Sam hadn’t whisked you off into the car and in front of a heater.
Chase’s reaction was a bit more subdued. He looked worried about how you were doing and wasn’t his usual boisterous self. When Sam invited him for dinner, he took a raincheck. So did Jack. Once, Chase had driven away, Sam looked at you expectantly, but you just shook your head. You had intruded on their time too much already.
You crouched down to Max’s level who was uncharacteristically quiet. “I scared you today, didn’t I?”
Max didn’t say anything. He placed the back of his hand against your forehead and then under your jaw.
“I’m alright, sweetie,” you assured him.
Max hugged you around the neck, and you hugged back tightly just for a second. You would jump inside a hundred lakes a hundred times without a single thought if it meant Max would be safe.
“I love you,” Max whispered very quietly in your ear. You were sure no one else had heard it.
Just as quietly, you whispered back. “I love you, too, my little boy.”
“Get inside, Max,” Sam said. “Wash your hands and change out of your clothes. I’ll be there in a minute to run the bath for you.”
With a small sigh, Max went inside, but not before giving you a smile.
“I’ll wait for you right outside the gate,” Jack told you. “It was great meeting you, Sam.”
“Likewise,” said Sam.
You watched Jack almost run out of sight.
“Cool kid,” Sam muttered, eyes in the same direction.
You sighed. “I can’t believe I ruined the picnic and put a damper on everyone’s mood.”
“C’mere.” Sam gently pulled you to him, so that your body was leaning against his. One hand was curled around your shoulder and his other hand was against your lower back. You could feel the tips on his fingers against the little skin exposed between the hem of your shirt and the waistband of your pants. It sent a thrill through your body. “It’s like you have to find something to worry about all the time. Quit doing that. Everyone’s just glad that you’re okay. We’ll do this again sometime, alright? We can push Chase in the water next time.”
You snorted.
“And don’t worry about the yelling. You know I always liked it when you got bossy like that.”
Sam’s words made you giggle.
“There’s my girl.” His warm breath washed over your face.
What you did next was inexcusable. Without warning, you were reaching up on the tips of your toes, kissing him. Sam was surprised, his hands left your body, but you threw yours around his neck, raising yourself up against his tall frame. He was so shocked that he lost his balance and fell back against the wall next to his door. You did not give up, sucking on his lower lip, feeling the roll of his muscles under your hand.
Sam let out a primal sound and the next second you were turning, it was your back to the wall now. He hoisted you up against the surface by your waist with one hand, hitching your leg around his waist. The other hand tangled in your hair as his mouth worked hard against yours. His taste was heady, intoxicating and the way he was kissing you was enough to make you forget where you were, what you were doing. It would make you forget your own name. The hand at your waist travelled under the hem of your shirt, clutching at the skin on your lower back, and his lips started to travel downwards, sucking, biting, along your chin to your jaw and back down again to the column of your neck. Sam wasn’t gentle… and as you gasped, indecently, eyes closed, you didn’t want him to be gentle either.
No, you wanted him to be rougher, go harder and never stop.
“Daaaaaadd!” Max sang from the inside and the two of your sprang apart. Your feet landed on the ground with resounding reality.
"Coming," he said, voice thick.
Sam bent down, hands on his knees, gasping hard.
“Oops!” You muttered.
He looked up at you with a boyish grin, face flushed, looking years younger.
“I better go,” you said, biting your lip. “Jack’s waiting for me.”
You wanted nothing more than for him to ask you to stay and by the looks of it, he wanted the exact same thing.
“Uhhh yeah…” Sam huffed, shifting slightly, trying to adjust his jeans furtively. That made your face grow hotter.
“Bye!” You ducked out of the porch, not looking back, least you should turn around and attack him again. What had gotten into you to react so wildly? That must’ve been highly inappropriate!
A small voice in your head told you that it was anything but inappropriate… technically, at least.
Jack’s face lit up when he saw you and then it immediately dropped.
“What happened?”
“Y-Your hair!” He muttered, looking anywhere but at you.
“Oh!” It was mussed up in all directions. Hurriedly, you ran your fingers through it, hoping for some semblance. “Sorry.”
After a minute, Jack sneaked a glance and then smiled impishly. “I’m sorry. It’s just the idea of you making out with someone gives me the heebies… You’re like my sister!” He screwed up eyes into slits to show the cringe.
You laughed.
At the door, Jack gave you another hug. “I gotta say, Y/N, I wasn’t convinced about this whole Sam business before today. Neither was Kev. You know we would always support you with whatever you decided, but seeing you with him was very relieving. I won’t worry again.”
It was heartening, how much everyone cared for you.
You had to take a cold shower once inside, despite your composition. It was regretful, because the water washed away the remnants of Sam’s smell off of you. Idly, you wondered if you could steal the shirt he had lent you and keep it for yourself, climb into it when you went to bed like you used to.
The shower was necessary to reign in the utter chaos that was your brain. The evening had been eventful enough, but what had happened on Sam’s porch? How were you ever going to keep your hands away from him now? Abstaining was your idea to begin with. Sam had bared his heart to you, and this was your decision to keep your hands to yourself till you said the three words back to him.
So much for self control. But the way he’d looked at you, angels would have fallen for less. You were only a human. Besides, nothing would ever compare to the feeling of Sam’s lips, his fingers digging in your back, his body pressed against yours.
You got into the bed, missing the warmth of his body when your phone pinged. Rolling on your stomach, you reached out to grab it from the nightstand praying the text was from the one person you wanted it to be from. It was.
*I missed that. I missed us*
Hugging the phone to your chest, you sighed like a teenager back from her first kiss. The incidence with water should have shaken you, the way you were wrecked anytime you got drenched, instead you were laying in bed grinning like an idiot.
*I missed us, too*
His reply was instantaneous.
*It’s been a while…*
What an idiot! You knew what he was implying. As if he could ever be less than perfect at anything, especially at that.
You typed your response quickly.
*Oh, Mr. Winchester, you always knew how to show a girl a good time*
The tightening in your stomach which refused to go away despite the cold shower was proof enough. Your skin still tingled.
*That’s comforting… and encouraging ;)*
Yes, it was going to be really hard to go back to keeping your hands off each other now. Being around him was like breaking dams. Once you broke one, it was impossible to put that barrier back up again. The class tomorrow was going to be excruciating. For tonight, you let the wildest fantasies mingled with old memories take up all of your brain space. Even if it left you writhing in your sheets.
*Good night, Mr. Winchester*
You saw the three dots following one another and then disappearing as Sam typed. Once, twice, thrice. Finally the little pop up bubble appeared.
*Good night, Mrs. Winchester. I love you*

A/N 2: I quite like this part. Gave me the chance to explore how delicate, confusing, dependent and volatile emotions can be at the same time. I think if I hadn’t had the backing of 35 chapters, I’d never be able to pull of the conversations in this chapter, Sam, Chase, Jack... all of them. They wouldn’t have been as funny, emotional or exciting. That’s just me thinking maybe.

Note
Can I get accidental! first kiss with disney villains? Maybe it was supposed to be on the cheek but they turned their head at the last second or something? With Gaston, Jafar, Evil Queen, Hades and Dr. Facilier. (Can you tell I'm lowkey obssessed?) Thank you for your time.
Yay obsession XD
I hope this is okay for you!! And I'm so sorry it took so long.
~~~
All:
I stand, seething but motionless as the bastard sweeps by behind me. A long-fingered hand curls around my upper arm, and I have to fight with myself to prevent me flinging it off of me and slapping them across the face.
“Y/N… You understand, don’t you? I just can’t let them live. I’ll leave you be, if you tell me where they’re going.” I look up with just my eyes, not moving my chin an inch, to see (Tiana and Naveen / Snow White and the Dwarves / Belle / Hercules, Pegasus and Phil / Aladdin and Abu) running off in the distance, escaping.
You do know where they’re heading to hide, but revealing that to (The Shadow Man / the Queen / Gaston / Hades / Jafar) isn’t an option, so you just press your lips harder shut and straighten your head. Creepy crawlies squirm up my arm and my spine, feeling them close behind me. What I want more then anything right now is to run after them, my friends, but I’m the only chance they have at a distraction. This villain is hell bent, but lust’s a deadly sin for a reason.
And unfortunately, I’m their chosen suicide weapon.
“Like I am ever going to give you that kind of information.”
Not all this shaking is from anger, it’s from disgust.
Why me. Why me. All I want is to be good, and help my friends, and beat the bad guy together, but instead I’m the tart in the middle- and sometimes it’s hard to resist them.
There will always be a certain treacherous, wild charm to bad people, but God, if they never showed any interest, I wouldn’t be having this problem. I don’t want it!
Their other hand finds my opposite shoulder, gentle and patient, and forgiving somehow, and can I feel the heat of their front against my back, they’re so close. Can I run now?
“Love, I keep giving you this get out of jail free card, but you just don’t want to take it, will you? I just want this little bit of help in return, is that too much to ask?” They sigh, and I grit my teeth.
“Of course, it is, yes! - “
To my complete shock, the kiss they were apparently going to press on my cheek, lands horrifyingly on my lips when I turn my head, eyes blazing to them to say it is too much to ask.
They go with it.
Dr Facilier:
Tumblr media
His hands on my shoulder and my arm immediately switch to cup my face, as he slips around me to be in front instead for easier access, pressing his mouth more securely over mine, as a shocked squeaky sound comes out of me like a dog toy.
And by some awful, evil, cruel force of the world, he’s really good kisser. Of course, he is. Because this isn’t hard enough already with him being freaken gorgeous. Sense escapes me, because I beautiful man is kissing me, and its good, and I’m a weak, weak, human being. I soften to his touch, and I tilt my head to go and kiss him back-
But then the sense comes back to me, and my eyes fly open as I jump back. “Oh no.”
I must look paler, because the Shadow man looks almost nervous when he looks at me. My lips feel hot. “Cher… “
“No, no!” I snap and he stops everything immediately. I feel redder the longer I stand here in his line of sight, just hot and embarrassed, and worried. So, in my confused and slightly panicked state, I turn around towards the direction the frogs escapes to, then turn back to Facilier, realise I don’t need to say goodbye, turn back to the escape route, turn back for half a second again, then turn back again finally. I slap a hand over my kissed lips, and start escaping off. “I have to go.”
“… till next time, Cher.”
Evil Queen:
Tumblr media
It lasts only a few seconds, but when the ordeal, the kiss, the surprisingly lovely kiss ends, we look at each other in shock for a millisecond.
And only a millisecond. “Oh dear… Look what you’ve done, now.” Hilde touches her lips for second, then an uncharacteristic, evil smirk crosses her delicate features. It’s like she sees exactly what I’m thinking with those piercing eyes of hers, because I’m thinking just what she said.
Look what I did now.
Oh god, look what I’ve done now.
This is my fault!
They’re never going to forgive me now.
I step back from her personal bubble, and cover my mouth in shock, ad horror, and despair. They’re going to hate me.
I kissed the evil queen.
I look up at her -not sure why, - to her cover her horrible victorious look, with one of gentle concern for me. Fake concern for me. She takes a step forward, as if to take me in her arms again. “Oh, sweetheart… come here. I’ll make it better.”
This time, I don’t hesitate to respond to her affection. I whip around and run down the stairs of the tower, away from her. “No!”
Oh god. Oh god, what have I done?
I liked it.
Gaston:
Tumblr media
Gaston doesn’t think- that’s what he’s known for actually. Besides being pretty.
Or maybe that’s just Belle and I.
Or maybe just me.
Anyway! He doesn’t think, and which is made quite clear when the next thing he does is instead of letting me go or acting surprised in any way, shape, or form, he sweeps me up against him in one rough movement with one of his arms and completely flattens his mouth to mine.
Oh Christ, my lips are going to bruise! And then people, or particularly in this case Belle, is absolutely going to know this happened.
I make a muffled yell sound against his mouth and pound my-puny, compared to him, - fist as hard as I bloody well can against his chest, and to my relief he lets me go. I drop down on my feet again, as he had gathered me literally up to him.
Using my fist, my wrist, and half of my arm, I savagely wipe my mouth. “Agh! What did we do?!”
“You, just experienced the magnificent kiss of Gaston!”
My cheeks are bright red and I feel hot, but still, I point a firm mummy finger at him. It shakes a bit, though, lessening the effect. “We never speak of this again.”
He smiles. “Now, darling, of course we don’t need to talk about it. In fact, you’re perfect for thinking that. Although, we might want to talk about other things- “
“No! No, no.” My pointer finger wilts, dropping all my weight onto my hip. “Oh, no. That isn’t what I meant.”
This may take some time.
Hades:
Tumblr media
“Ah!” I squawk, breaking the kiss before either of us really let it sink in and take a couple steps back, shielding my mouth with the sleeve of my shirt. “Oh, hell.”
“Quite literally, sweetheart.”
I only glance at him in response to that, covering my ears pointedly, slowly, so he sees I will not be listening in to his mess while I’m freaking out.
It wasn’t a ‘real’ kiss, I guess. No, it wasn’t. So, does that mean I don’t have to tell Herc? It would be a lotta heartache for next to nothing, if I did… But if I don’t, it’ll just grow bigger and bigger… and it’ll eventually come out; That’s for sure. Herc will find out, and he’ll be hurt…
Because this is the monster that’s trying to hurt him, and his father, and who got the love of his life killed -she came back to life, sure, but I’m sure he’s still a little bit upset about it,- , and… and… this is his uncle we’re talking about.
The horribleness of what’s to come, when I tell him, dawns on me like a drawn out gong and the world suddenly feels much darker then before. I cover my mouth. “Damn it… “
As I was thinking, I must have taken my hands off my ears because when I hear Hades voice behind me it surprises me and I straighten my back immediately, feeling the shock race up my spine.
“I won’t tell him if you don’t, babe.”
Its, really, an enticing offer.
Jafar:
Tumblr media
Before I can move to escape from the bastard myself, Jafar sweeps back from me on his own, exchanging the intimacy to flash me a long, creepy grin. I hug my stomach with one arm and run a hand through my hair with the other, looking at the ground instead of at him. Jesus.
What is Jasmine going to say? I can’t keep it from her, that’s for sure.
Wait, can I? …
No, no. Ridiculous thought. Moving on.
“Would you like to try again, my dear?”
“No!!?” I look incredulously at this man, before turning around because I cannot look at him anymore. I feel sick.
Not because of the sorta kiss with him. Not because I have anything against kissing him, in the first place.
But because its Jafar. He’s evil, he’s a creep, he’s trying to do horrible things to my friends, and the Sultan, and probably the whole kingdom.
And I liked it. I wanted more.
I still want more.
Oh god, am I a horrible person? I’m horrible. Before I realise what I’ve decided to do next, or even if I have made a decision or if I’m just scared, run off as fast as I can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mihawk was unsure if being able to state that Shanks was in his inner circle was a blessing or a curse, perhaps it was both at once, the acerbic poetry of paradoxes. He was, without the shadow of a doubt, his polar opposite. And yet they clicked- he secretly both thanked and cursed Shanks’ ability to socialize in the blink of an eye.
Metaphorically speaking, they were the two personifications of two celestial bodies : Shanks was as bright as the sun, a sun that rises and never sets. Mihawk was as dazzling as the moon, a moon that beams the most amongst the quiet scenery of the stars and the sky. And yet, they were closer than they would admit- the moon lets the sun shine through and brings out its most secret and breathtaking sides. And in return, the moon reminds the sun that it’s never quite alone and that they will always meet, one way or another.
They would always meet one way or another, in a way, they copied the mechanisms of the celestial bodies. But no matter how long the process was, they were meant to cross each other’s paths, and today was that day.
When the moon and the sun would meet in the sky, Mihawk and Shanks met on the land.
Given his position as a Shichibukai, Mihawk bent under the obligations of assuming his responsibilities as the Marine’s hidden ace. Shawks, on the other one hand, had the influence to shift the weight on the balance. And as much as Akainu hated to admit it, his help, or rather the help of a pirate from the fleet Admiral’s point of view (one of the emperors no less) was deemed as reasonable according to the Gorosei.
The holy land of Mary Geoise was bound to be stepped on by all the crowned heads of the oceans and lands, it was only a matter of time before the Reverie. It was yet another meeting required by the higher circle of the Marine, and to them, it was yet another way to testify the loyalty of their Shichibukai, make sure that their own personal beasts were still obedient.
Both you and Mihawk were considered as the Marine’s deadliest weapons, and yet, you still held the status of being pirates. Isn’t it ironic? Once again, the acerbic poetry of paradoxes. The Shichibukai, although they were affiliated with the Marine, could not afford the oh so marvelous prestige of going to Mary Geoise. How shameful would it be for vulgar pirates to walk on the same land as an endless list of personifications of divinities? Instead, you were deemed to remain on an island close enough to the Holy Land, and in the worst case scenario, intervene if necessary.
The rules were strict, especially given that you were pirates- you were not allowed to leave the island nor the property of the Shichibukai, not allowed to ask about the Reverie nor the people attending to the event, you were doomed to sit and wait for a desperate call, if needed. Nonetheless, there was only one exception on the list of people staying, and much to Mihawk’s pleasure or misfortune, the special guest happened to be Shanks.
Mihawk was seating on the sofa displayed in what was supposed the center room, eying meticulously the Den-Den Mushi throning on the center of the table. He never dared to let his stare roam elsewhere, not even a centimeter next to the Den-Den Mushi, after all, you never knew what could happen, correct? The deafening silence was coating Mihawk, enveloping him in an invisible cocoon, if you will. He felt the most natural amongst a quiet scenery. He wished this silence was eternal.
Oh, anybody could have recognized his booming voice, his equally as loud laugh and the sound of beer being poured in his glass like an infinite loop. Mihawk didn’t bother spare a glance in Shanks’ direction, he recognized right away who was the protagonist who made an entry worthy of a dramatic character in a play. Shanks, on the other one hand, let his pearly whites shine through as soon as Mihawk’s frame enter his field of vision as he dangerously reduced the space separating him from the Shichibukai.
“Well, would you look at that? When was the last time we saw each other, old pal?” Mihawk reiterated himself, he wished this silence could have been eternal. “Akagami no Shanks. It appears you are as lively as ever.” Mihawk’s facial expression remained still, even after feeling the cushion bend under Shanks’ added weight. He needed to remain focused on his duties.
“And you’re as, how can I say that without coming off as rude, you’re still as you as ever! C’mon, don’t be all you, all serious like that. I’ve seen you having more fun than that in the past.” Shanks smirked as he reminisced himself of the time when the ever so serious Mihawk let his façade combust under the influence of alcohol, a pure rarity. “This is no laughing matter, Shanks. You must know why you have been summoned here with the rest of us Shichibukai.”
In return, the redhead offered him his most victorious smile despite knowing that Mihawk was not ready to observe anything else but the Den-Den Mushi, it was a lost cause, but he secretly dared himself to make him let loose, for old time’s sake. “Man, you sure as hell are not the life of the party. Look, the Marine is already protecting Mary Geoise as we speak, they’re not gonna’ call you, nor your friends. There’s plenty of booze here, c’mon, I know you like yourself some fine wine, so let’s drink!” Mihawk didn’t even have the time to say anything in return, Shanks was already out of the room, focused on his quest to find the perfect bottle of wine to satisfy Mihawk’s hushed desires.
Truth be told, Shanks had little to no idea where the oh so famous bottles were at, but he was so motivated to find them and lift his friend’s spirits, so perhaps it was even more important than to find the wine itself.
On his journey, Shanks recognized a familiar frame, but more importantly- said frame was holding Mihawk’s precious liquid darlings in their hands. “Oh, oh, oh! First, Mihawk and now you? Aren’t I one lucky bastard?” You could picture the grin adorning his facial structure as he spoke, it was so contagious, that even yourself felt the need to mimic the smile plastered upon his face. “Fancy seeing you here, Shanks! I haven’t seen you in forever.” You met on rare occasions, but said rare occasions were more than enough for Shanks to recognize your strength. “What are you doing here with all this booze? If that’s too much for you, I happen to know this one guy who can help you.” Oh, the wink sent your way didn’t go unnoticed, but you followed him anyway.
And oh boy, did you regret your decision. Hell, you were expecting Buggy, or even Trafalgar Law, but not him out of all people. The words pouring out of Shanks’ mouth increasingly became more and more hushed, your eyes were laying on him and him only as you and the redhead stood next to the open door. “Were you even listening to what I was saying, doll?” Broken out of your dreaming state, your eyes shifted onto Shanks’ figure, you were caught red-handed. “I’m sorry, I was... Distracted? So, you were saying?”
Shank’s glance balanced between you and Mihawk, Mihawk then you, you then Mihawk, and then it clicked. A dangerous smirk full of ill intentions drew on his face, before he could even speak, you covered his mouth with the palm of your hand while your cheekbones reacted to the nervousness shaking your body. “Please, just for once in your life, shut your mouth.” You frantically whispered while looking at him with alarming eyes. Knowing Shanks’ teasing nature, if he had figured on your attraction to the sword specialist, it was over for you. “Ha? Me? I would never dare to say anything about your ridiculous crush on Mihawk over there, right, Y/N?” You elbowed him in his stomach in a weak attempt to hush him, and your cheeks had never burnt this hard before.
Here you were, entering the room with both of your hands cradling the bottles of wine against your chest, accompanied by Shanks’ frantic laughter. You had no other desire than to disappear on the spot, could Kuma come and teleport you away, just this once? “Oi, Mihawk! Look at who I found, and a little birdy told me that Y/N is a huge fan of you, if you know what I mean.” You elbowed him a second time, knowing very well that it wasn’t going the last time you would do so.
The sound of your name was enough, and for the first time since since he had arrived in the leaving room, Mihawk’s golden orbs left the Den-Den Mushi and instead, he drank your frame in. You were absolutely breathtaking, even more jaw-dropping than the last time he saw you. What was your secret? How can you become more beautiful each day passing by? His interrogations found no answer.
But the sight of you also included seeing that Shanks’ arm was wrapped around your shoulder, his body engulfed yours, he was too close to you for his liking. But after all, this sense of proximity was very Shanks-esque, he couldn’t deny it, he secretly envied this ability of his. Instead, to heal his shattered hopes, he pictured himself instead of Shanks in his mind- his arm circling your shoulder, perhaps even circling your waist while his thumb would brush your delicate skin in circular motions. A dream.
“Y/N, what a pleasure seeing you here.” The tone of his voice was so stable, almost expressionless to some, but Shanks had already picked up the slight hint of pleasure in his voice. “Did you see that? A pretty doll and wine? Isn’t Y/N a keeper?” Each word leaving his lips silently infuriated Mihawk, the thoughts of you and Shanks appearing close, or even worse, in a relationship, were intoxicating him slowly, yet, he didn’t find the courage to let his eyes wander elsewhere than on your face. ‘Breathtaking’, he thought.
Shanks knew what kind of game he was playing now, he called that ‘helping his friends out’, but deep down, he perfectly knew there were higher stakes, and one wrong move could anger the sword specialist. He was on thin ice, of course, but it was a sacrifice he was willing to make. And perhaps, the burning fire of jealousy would melt the ice away.
You, on the other one hand, silently understood Shanks’ intentions- you knew that each touch, each glance sent your way, each laugh at anything you would say was specifically executed to diminish Mihawk’s patience, it was a dangerous game, but you both knew the secret rules.
With his arm draped over your shoulder, tugging you even closer to his side, Shanks had everything figured out, and seeing the way Mihawk’s gold colored eyes never left you, even amongst the ramblings and the fit of laughter coming from the redhead, Shanks knew you were the sole holder of all of Mihawk’s attention. But little did he know how much this was hurting him on the inside, the toxins of his jealousy kept on spreading.
“... And that’s how Y/N earned their Shichibukai status, you should’ve seen them, pal! Don’t let the pretty face fool you- they’re a beast, aren’t you, doll?” The wink sent your way, the slight squeeze of his hand on your shoulder, the smirk forming upon his face- this chain reaction caused Mihawk to delicately place his glass of wine on the table, or at least, as delicately as a person burning with silent envy and anger could allow. “I believe I’m interrupting something. I shall leave you two lovebirds alone.” He didn’t mean it, but he spat the word ‘lovebird’ with so much acerbity, each one of his words was coated with hurtful intentions. Perhaps he was better off without you, but the emotional burden would still follow him around. And once his line was pronounced, he left his seat and headed out of the room, out of your sights.
Your mouth was set agape- your brain screamed for you to do something, pleaded you to run after him and appease his ill thoughts, but your body was rendered numb. You felt numb. And if you were careful enough, you could feel the agonizing sensations of your own heart breaking. All this time, you were silent, thinking that Shanks knew what he was doing, but it seems that the game ended sooner than he had anticipated.
“Y/N, look, it’s my fault, I get th-...” Shanks started, but you interrupted him right away, as soon as you felt an outburst of confidence fed by despair coursing through your veins. You escaped his one-sided embrace, the root of all of Mihawk’s toxins, and threw a last glance in Shanks’ direction : “I think you’ve done enough.”
You rushed yourself out of the room, its atmosphere was so heavy, so heavy that you could feel it at the tip of your fingers. In the hallway, you snapped your head frantically while desperately looking for the hint of a gigantic sword adorning the back of the one you loved. You wanted to find him, correction- you needed to find him at all costs.
And eventually, you did.
“Mihawk! Please, wait! I think you misunderstood all of this.” You were out of breath, not because you had run through the long hallway to catch him, but because your heart was pumping so much under the pressure of your emotions. His back was facing you, not even the sweet melody of your voice was enough to catch his attention. “Please, just listen to me.”
Your pleadings were agonizing to him, the pain embedded in your words cut deeper than he had expected. As a matter of fact, you affected him more than he had expected. He turned around, and you found the familiar sensation of his golden orbs boring into yours. “You have two minutes to explain yourself, Y/N.”
Your lips almost quivered upon hearing the solemn tone of his voice, there, only there you could recognize that this time his voice was indeed expressionless. But you had two minutes to explain the situation, two minutes to clear his head from any haunting thought, two minutes to confess the feelings you held in his regard.
“I think you misread the situation. Shanks and I are not dating, far from that actually.” You caught your breath before continuing. “Shanks tried to make you jealous.” His brows furrowed at the sound of your sentence. “I’m afraid I don’t understand. Explain further.” And now you were doomed- it was a back to the wall kind of scenario, the one you feared the most because it meant exposing the nature of your feelings to the freezing moonshine.
“Mihawk, I do have feelings for someone, it’s true. But it’s not Shanks, and never has been. The person I have feelings for is... you.” You felt like the weight of the world had been taken off your shoulders, you could finally breathe freely. But you met silence in return, causing invisible knots to form in your stomach. You knew you pushed the game too far, but it was impossible to go back. “Y/N, with all due respect, I do not think your words are genuine. If you’re trying to keep your relationship with Shanks secret, then so be it, but do not hurt me in the process.” And with that being said, he turned around once more and continued on his way without having a clue where he was actually going, he just knew he needed to be away from you.
Hurt him? The knots felt tighter. He walked away on you? Your body felt constricted under your emotional pain. You had never felt so hurt before, and you couldn’t even dare to imagine how hurt he must have felt.
You tried one last time to run up to him, perhaps it would have been the last time, but it was worth it. Your hand grabbed his wrist forcing him to face you, you and him were both surprised at the spontaneous gesture. His lips were parted, he had the words ready on the tip of his tongue, but you didn’t feel like giving him the chance to hurt himself any further.
Your palms cradled his cheeks, and you met the contrast of the soft sensation of his flesh and the roughness of his beard, this contrast was like him in a way. For the first time, the nature of his glance expressed surprise, he felt numb in your touch. And for the first time, the toxins settled in his mind were starting to fade away under the spell of your touch.
Without thinking twice, your lips crashed onto his, your brows furrowing in the process as a sign of concentration while your lids were now shut close. It took a few milliseconds for Mihawk to grasp the nature of your actions, and then, it clicked. The delicate sensation of your lips on his were enough to comprehend that your words were genuine.
Your kiss spoke nothing but pure passion, both of your lips melted against each other, as if they had been lingering for this moment forever, as if they were in fact made for each other. You completed him, and he completed you.
Due to the lack of oxygen, you felt obligated to break the kiss, against your will. Your eyes fluttered, and eventually, you found the courage to look at him. He was a living, breathing masterpiece. “Do you believe me n-... Humpf!” This time, it was his turn to cut your ramblings to a halt. His arms encompassed your waist, so delicately, he was secretly afraid that the aftershock of his pent-up anger would explode under your hypnotizing tendencies.
This time, your kiss secretly echoed to apologies, but it was fiddled with sweetness, with pure compassion. It was, indeed, his way to apologize. After all, he was a firm believer that actions speak louder than words. A scenery taken straight out of the most beautifully written novels about love met two crushed souls finally melting into one another. You were both at peace, enveloped in one another’s love.
The moment when Mihawk’s lips left yours, you slightly pouted at the feeling of vacuity left upon your lips. “I do believe you now.” But said vacuity was soon replaced by the overwhelming feeling of the gleam of love shining through in his golden orbs.
.
.
“Well, it was about damn time!” yelled a drunk Shanks from the doorframe.
Tales of Lovebug and Kitty Noir ch 4: Evillustrator
Marinette was still fuming from her encounter with Chloe when she landed in her room and detransformed.
“Ugh! Tikki, why does Chloe always have to be so. . . Ugh! Chloe!” she said as she flopped onto her chaise.
When there was no reply, she sat up and turned to where she had last seen Tikki, only to find the Akuma from earlier in the library.
“It’s you! The one terrorizing Chloe!” She scrambled back. “What are you doing here?”
“I . . . just wanted to see you.”
“O-kay, but why did you attack Chloe?”
He wrinkled his nose. “Because Chloe is cruel and selfish!”
“Can’t argue with that,” Marinette admitted. She took a breath. “Are you- going to hurt me?”
“You? You’re Marinette.” He looked at her with an adoring smile on his face. “You’re beautiful and sweet and- perfect and- I could never hurt you!”
“Wow. That’s, uh, very, um, flattering, uh. . . Thank you?” she stuttered as she remembered that morning, in class. Nathaniel must have been akumatized. He really was in love with her.
“So, I just came by to ask you if, uh, well . . . It’s my birthday today and, uh, would you want to come to my party.”
“Oh, um, actually, it’s not really the best night, see, I’ve got a presentation to work on,” she gestured to her folder on the desk. “ And I have to. . . call my . . . friend so we can . . . meet and . . .” she trailed off, making her hand into a makeshift phone and holding it to her ear.
“Oh, no, please, Marinette, it’ll just be you and me!” He drew on a tablet she hadn’t noticed and a card appeared in his hand. He knelt and held it out to her, and she gasped as she took it.
“Oh, my gosh, that’s . . . me!”
“You like it?”
“I . . .”
She thought about it. She didn’t really want to go on a date with a supervillain, but if she could figure out where his Akuma was, she could defeat him faster. There was another problem though: how could she guarantee her safety if she enraged him? She needed Chat watching over her.
Which left Chloe unprotected. But still. Maybe.
Deciding it was her best chance, she said, “Love it! So much that I will absolutely be at your party!”
“On one condition,” she deadpanned.
“Anything for you, Marinette.”
“You can’t hurt Chloe anymore.” She held her hand to her forehead, “I simply cannot bear violence.”
“For you and only you.”
He drew on his tablet and a jetpack appeared on his back. “Meet me on the left bank, next to Notre Dame at sunset.” He told her, and left through the window, not bothering to fix the hole he left there.
Tikki came out and sat on Marinette’s shoulder. “What the hell, Tikki! He just professed his love to me and acted like he didn’t just ruin my window! And he can make the things he draws come to life, but he didn’t bother to fix something he broke!”
Tikki sighed. “He’s an Akuma, Marinette, he’s not in his right mind.”
“I’m not saying it’s alright, just that he can’t help it,” she amended when Marinette shot her a glare.
“I know, Tikki, it’s just really inconvenient,” Marinette sighed. “I have to call Chat. Do you mind if I transform for a few minutes?”
“No, go ahead.”
“SPOTS ON!” She climbed onto her balcony and leaped over a few roofs so Chat wouldn’t recognize where she was.
Pressing the button in the middle of her yoyo, she opened it and called Chat. He picked up after a few seconds.
“Hey, Lovebug, what’s up?”
She cut to the chase, “I need you to watch over a girl for me tonight.”
“Why can’t you do it?”
“I’m going on a very important secret mission.”
“What about Chloe?”
“She’s safe.”
He sighed. “Alright, who is it?”
She sent him a picture of herself. “Her name’s Marinette. Cute, right?”
His face softened and he whispered, “Yeah.”
Her heart fluttered.
“She’s going on a fake date with the Akuma. He’s in love with her.”
“What? That’s too dangerous! She could get hurt!”
“That’s why you’ll be there. Marinette is going to take his pencil away. I’ll need you to capture the Akuma and when you see me next, I’ll purify it,” she explained. “Can I trust you?”
“Yeah, I can do that,” he grumbled.
“Great! I’ll send you the address.”
She hung up and then typed in her address before hitting send and leaping back to her balcony.
She made her way merrily down the stairs and opened the door to see- Sabrina? What was she doing here? The project! She had completely forgotten!
“Hi, Marinette!”
“Um, hi, Sabrina,” she said hesitantly. “What are you doing here?”
“I came to work on the project.” She leaned forward. “Did you forget?” she singsonged.
“Um, nope. I was totally gonna call you,” Marinette laughed nervously.
“Great! Let’s go get started,” Sabrina chirped.
“I, um, actually there’s something really important I have to do tonight. I can’t work on it tonight. But we can meet up tomorrow.”
“What is this really important thing?”
“I, um, it’s a secret.”
“You know who else uses that excuse?”
“N-no.”
“Chloe! I’m beginning to see how much you two have in common!”
The angry redhead stormed away and Marinette let out a sigh, sagging against the doorframe.
“I thought I’d have to rescue you from her claws,” a voice said from her right.
“Chat!” Marinette jumped and started falling. She closed her eyes and braced for an impact that never came. Instead, she felt a warm hand close over hers and pull her upright.
Opening her eyes, she saw Chat smirk at her. “Falling for me already, huh, Purrincess?”
Marinette blushed so furiously, she was sure her face was bright red. “U-um . . .”
“I hear we’ll be working together.” He bent and kissed her hand.
“Uh, y-yeah.” How was he so smooth?
He interpreted her stuttering as fear of the idea of facing a supervillain. “Don’t worry, M’lady, I’ll be there the whole time. I won’t let him hurt you.”
“Thanks, Kitty,” She smiled softly. He was so thoughtful. He would never have left that big hole in her window. Or made it in the first place.
“Did . . . you just call me Kitty?”
“Uh, I’m sorry! I shouldn’t have called you that! I-”
“No! No it’s fine! I liked it,” he smiled at her. “Chat Noir feels really formal. You can just call me Chat or Kitty. Okay?” he reassured her.
“Okay, Kitty,” she smiled right back at him.
“S-so,” he stuttered, but just for one second. “Where are we meeting for your . . . date?” He spat the last word like it was poison.
“Oh. Is the Kitty jealous?” it was too much to hope for, but Marinette couldn’t resist leaning in to hear his answer.
“Maybe just a little bit,” he said under his breath, making Marinette’s heart skip a beat.
She couldn’t help but gape at him. “What?”
"Um, I said . . . I just don’t want you getting hurt . . . ?”
“No. You said you were jealous,” she grinned.
His face turned bright red.
“Are you okay?!” She pressed the back of her hand to his forehead and he flushed even more. “Are you sure you’re okay?” She insisted, moving her hand to his cheek.
“Uh, y-yep, just f-fine.”
“Do you want anything before we go? We still have a few hours until we have to leave.”
What if he really was sick? Not only would they be unable to defeat Nathaniel, but she would also spend every waking moment worrying about him.
“Could I have something to drink?” he asked, scratching the back of his neck.
“Of course! Follow me.” Marinette turned and walked back up the stairs to the kitchen. Chat shut the door behind him and followed her up the stairs.
“Have a seat,” Marinette offered, gesturing to a chair. “What do you want to drink? Water, orange juice, tea, milk?”
“Water is fine,” he said as he pulled out a chair.
She gave him his water then danced around the kitchen for a while, coming up with a tray of pastries for them to share and a mug of tea for herself.
“Thanks, Purrincess.”
“No problem, Kitty.”
They smiled at each other for a while before looking away and blushing.
------
“Remember, M’lady, just get the pen away from him. I’ll keep you safe,” Chat said as he leaped to Notre Dame.
“I know, Kitty. I’ll be fine,” she responded, more for his benefit than hers. She was certain her plan wouldn’t fail.
“I’m sure you will be. I’m just worried.” His brows furrowed. “What if something goes wrong? What if he gets mad and I can’t get there soon enough? I couldn’t live with myself if I couldn’t save you.”
They stopped on a roof near the river and Chat hugged Marinette tighter.
“Look at me.” When he didn’t, Marinette tilted his face toward hers. “I know I’ll be fine. Do you know why?”
He shook his head.
“Because I have you to watch over me.” Marinette put her hand over his heart. “And I know you would never let anyone hurt me.” She paused for a moment to let her words sink in. “Besides, I’m stronger than I look.”
Chat smiled weakly at her and you could tell he was trying very hard to keep it from slipping. “Thanks, Purrincess.”
“Why don’t you come to my house tomorrow and we’ll get ice cream?”
“Sure, but I’m paying.”
“No! I suggested it.”
“But I said I’d pay first.”
“Why don’t we decide tomorrow?”
“Sure, but I’m still paying.”
“Don’t we have to be somewhere?” Marinette deflected.
“Oh, right.” Chat’s face turned grim again and all the comfort from their banter melted away. He leaped to the ground behind Notre Dame and Marinette walked to the edge of the river with Chat keeping watch from the shadows.
“Hey, I hope I’m not late,” Marinette said to get the villain’s attention.
“Not at all, You’re right on time.” He sat on a bench and patted the spot next to him. Marinette complied and he started to draw something. A bouquet of red roses appeared in his hand.
When he gave them to her, she tried to pretend Chat was the gifter.
“They’re lovely,” she said, giving them a sniff. “You’re very good at drawing. I actually draw a little too. I’m not as good as you, of course.”
“I’m sure you’re a wonderful artist.”
“Well, can I draw you something for your birthday?”
“Sure.” He started to hand her the pencil, but Chat Noir shifted behind them and Evilustrator must have seen his movement because he kept his grip on the pencil and asked her to give it back.
“N-no, I’m keeping it!” She snatched it and backed away.
“Marinette, you’re working with him? I’m so stupid. I actually thought you liked me, but you’re just like Chloe! Teasing me. Mocking me. Leading me on.”
Marinette snapped his pencil. “Why does everyone keep comparing me to Chloe today?!”
An Akuma flew out of the pencil and Chat leaped down to catch it in a jar he had brought. He turned to Marinette who was still seething from Evilustrator’s comment.
“If it helps,” he said, setting his hand on her shoulder, “I don’t think you’re like Chloe.”
Marinette’s face softened and she hugged him. “Thanks, Kitty, that means the world to me.”
Yay! The first Marichat chapter is out! The last chapter doesn't count. I tallied up all the chapters of each ship I already have outlined. I'm not sure if anyone's interested so if you want to see how many of each so far, then comment and I'll make a post. Thank you to my wonderful beta @valiantlyjollynightmare!
Chapter 2: On This Journey to the Past Home
Tumblr media
A/N: I had such a hard time coming up with the best way to write this chapter since it’s the introduction of six characters at the same time. I hope it’s not too bad. Also, if you’re gonna ask to be tagged could you please send an ask? It’s easier for me and if I forgot to tag you, just message me. Enjoy!
Chapter 1 // Chapter 3
Despite the fear clawing its way into her mind, the deep chuckle from the cloaked man behind her soothed some of her nerves. His voice was cold and deep, even when he was laughing. And if he was laughing, it meant that they weren’t mad enough to kill her, right?
Or maybe they’re a bunch of murderers and are laughing because they’ll take their sweet time with you.
Lin didn’t raise her head from the marble floor, her body being taken by the pain of slamming against the man and then the floor. Her eyes went from one man to the next. Two of them stood a little bit behind the other three. One of them had a black cloak and the other had a white one. The white one, she realized, had been the one she saw smiling earlier. She wondered if he was smiling now, but the cloak and the shadows didn’t let her see it. The man she had decked across the face stood in front of her, his arms crossed and even with his charcoal grey coat hiding his features, she could sense the sneer on his face.
Not that she was in position to pick, but she would very much prefer dealing with the white cloaked man than this one.
The guy was flanked by two other in brown. Although, differently from their apparent leader, they didn’t bother hiding their faces. Both tan, with harsh features and tawny eyes. One was blonde, appearing to be in his late thirties or maybe even forties. The other one looked more around late twenties, his ebony hair tucked in a low pony. In any other situation, she might have found them somewhat attractive.
She didn’t dare turn around to see the one that had stopped her.
“Shouldn’t someone take that bottle from her?” The man in white asked, stepping into the light. If she hadn’t been laying down, her jaw might have dropped at the sight of his face. He could very well be the most handsome man she had ever laid her eyes upon. Flawless brown skin, dark blonde hair and black eyes, he looked like the warrior-princes in the books she read. “I mean she did manage to deck Lorcan across the face and run a fucking lot. And then there is also the pup ready to bite our ankles.”
Lorcan. The man in charcoal grey was named Lorcan.
She heard the footsteps of the man behind her before she saw him. He unhurriedly walked to her front to join his companions, and Lin finally sat up. As Lorcan, his face was hidden by his light grey cloak. She picked the dog up and stood, taking a step back.
When she fully stood the light filtering from one of the highest windows illuminated her face, and she scowled at the six men.
“Holy fuck.” The pretty one said out loud when he took a look at her face. “Holy fuck. Please tell me everyone is thinking what I am thinking.”
“Shut up, Fen.” The one in black grunted, stepping closer to Fen. Lin then realized that their faces were near identical, even though he looked like the dark side of his brother’s fair coin.
Twins then.
“Look at her face.” He was gaping. Why the hell was he gaping?
“Why the hell are you gaping?” She said before she could consider the words. She almost flinched at her own tone— being rude wouldn’t help her at all right now. But she had already spoken with confidence, so now she must continue with the facade. “And who the hell are you?”
“You’re not really in the position of asking questions right now, lady.” His twin answered before Fen could open his mouth.
“You’re not really in the position of telling me how to act, sir.” Oh she was screwed. She was so, so screwed.
The six men surveyed her, their eyes scanning her head to toe. She felt the urge to shift on her feet, but she wouldn’t give them the satisfaction even though she had a feeling that they all knew how her heart was pounding inside her chest.
The pretty one, Fen, decided that she passed whatever inspection because he decided to answer her earlier question despite the looks he was receiving from the other five. “I’m Fenrys. Lovely meeting you.”
Her eyes narrowed and she took another step back. Fenrys’s wolflike smile only grew wider. “And the others?” She jerked her chin to the other five, still faking confidence. She needed to run and she needed to do it before they decided they didn’t want to toy with her anymore but she knew that without another distraction, she wouldn’t run five steps before they caught her.
Surprisingly, the golden man in brown answered her question too. “Gavriel, lady.” His voice was chill and gentle, and some of her nerves calmed further. Maybe he would convince his friends to kill her quickly as a mercy. He looked at the other four men who remained silent and sighed. His next words, however, caught her by surprise. “We are very sorry for scaring you and your dog. We didn’t expect anyone else to be in the castle.”
A blink was all the surprise she showed.
Maybe they wouldn’t kill her. She almost choked in relief.
Talking to him seemed safer than the others, so she nodded. “I wasn’t planning on coming in, but the dog ran inside and I came after it.” If he was surprised she answer, he didn’t let it show. “I can leave now and I promise I will not tell anyone that I ever saw any of you.”
Fenrys laughed at that. “I have a better plan.”
At that, her entire body went visibly taunt.
“Fenrys.” The man with ebony hair in a pony growled. “Stop trying to scare the girl.”
Fenrys didn’t stop looking at her. “Am I scaring you, lady?”
“The only thing scaring me are your manners. Maybe I should have decked you across the face.” Lin raised her chin. She had survived ten years with men trying to taunt her day and night, and since his companions didn’t seem inclined to kill her, Fenrys was just an asshole trying to get a reaction. “Maybe strong enough to break your jaw. It would certainly save me from your blabbering.”
His twin’s mouth fell open before he howled. The man was almost doubling with laughter, and the other ones seemed to smile. At least the ones she could see the faces. Two of them remained unknown and it bothered her. A lot.
“The idiot laughing Connall,” the man with ebony hair said. “I’m Vaughan.”
She merely nodded to acknowledge she had heard him. Against her best judgment, her eyes went to the guy in the grey coat. Not the one she had hit, the one that seemed to be their leader, Lorcan. No, she was staring at the one who had been the one to reach her and grab her elbow. She could swear his eyes were fixated on hers as she turned to him. His attention unnerved her enough to make her reckless. “And the one watching me like a fucking buzzard would be?”
He seemed to tense, either because of her attention or her harsh tone. Probably the latter.
No one responded as if sensing the shift in the air.
“What? You grabbed me by the elbow and slammed me against the floor, I should at least know your name.”
“What’s yours?” Oh, his voice. Something inside of her jumped when hearing his voice, his accent making the words roll out of his tongue. She would have frowned at herself if she wasn’t completely focused on the man before her. Even the others seemed to be interested in their conversation.
Lin smiled. “I asked first.”
Even under the layers of his cloak, she could feel him smiling in return. “Connall was right. You’re not in the position to ask questions.”
She just stared blankly at him. Neither he or one of his companions seemed interested in breaking the silence or getting involved into their pissing match. Lin ached to remain silent, but she also knew it wouldn’t help her, at least not now.
Pick your battles wisely, Lysandra would say and then add upon seeing the look on her best friend’s face, Not all of them, Lin.
“Why don’t you at least let me see your face? After all you’ve seen mine.”
He considered. He started to slowly circle her, looking her from head to toe several times. She wanted to stay put, but there was something about him that was both alluring and infinitely annoying.
“Why are you circling me?”
He didn’t respond but, surprisingly, took a step into the light and took off his hood.
iknowyouiknowyouiknowyou
The pulsing in the back of her head came back with full strength. Her vision swayed, and she clenched her jaw in order to not pass out. When she felt slightly better, she analyzed his features. Fenrys might have been beautiful but this man was… Alluring. Handsome. Lin wanted to take a step forward and analyze his features more clearly. Wanted to see the exact shade of his green eyes, see if his hair was actually naturally silver. She wanted to clearly see every single harsh and sharp line of his face. If Fen was the fair warrior-prince, this man was the morally grey warrior that you never know if you can really trust.
He was staring at her, eyes narrowing. He took a step forward, head tilting to the side. For some reason, he seemed somewhat confused.
Maybe it was his confusion that made her say, “My name is Lin.”
He nodded, almost disappointed. “Rowan.”
“You look like the old royals.” Fenrys blurted out, making Lin’s attention snap back to him.
“Fenrys.” Vaughan and Rowan grunted at him.
“What? She does. Look at the hair and face shape. Even her eyes look like theirs.” He walked up to her and she tensed, not daring to run with him so close. He bent down, staring right into her face. She really wanted to punch him to see what he would do. “She’ll be just perfect.”
His twin brother and Gavriel groaned.
“Perfect for what?” She snapped.
“To pretend to be the lost princess, of course.”
She gawping at him, she knew. She continued until she felt laughter bubbling up her chest and let out the most dramatic cackle she could manage. Despite being alone in the world, being constantly worried about Lysandra, about money and her plans, Lin couldn’t stop laughing at what the man had suggested. She was almost doubling over, and the dog in her arms jumped to the floor. Lin knew she shouldn’t laugh at the face of six men who could very well kill her, but it was just too damn funny.
“Pretend to be what?” She said, trying to stop laughing. Fenrys scowled at her and the others watched the scene or humorously or bored. “Isn’t this the infraction of about twenty laws, one of them being treason. Which would result in the gallows?”
When he didn’t answer, she let out another chuckle. “I have a neck way too pretty to be tied in a rope, boyo. And there is the fact that I don’t know any of you, much less trust any of you. Find another idiot.”
“You wouldn’t go to the gallows.” Vaughan said, and she was shocked that some of them agreed with Fenrys. Her eyes went to Rowan, but he was just watching everything with a blank expression. Vaughan continued, “People do it all the time. You would study everything about them, about their kingdom, go to the royal family, say you are the lost princess and they decide whether or not you’re lying. Worst case scenario, they kick you to the curb.”
“And the new queen?” Why the fuck was she even entertaining the idea? She didn’t know any of these men, and she already had a mission of her own. Lysandra couldn’t wait while she pretended to be a princess.
“She wouldn’t know.” Connall smiled viciously.
“Fuck no. I have better things to do.” She said, taking a step towards the wood panel she had come from. Despite their sizes and mean demeanors, Lin now doubted they would kill her. “Places to be, people to see. Find. Another. Idiot.”
“Are ‘better things’ sitting on the rooftop of a shabby house and drink vodka?” Fenrys called after her, and her head whipped back. Not to Fenrys, no, but to Rowan. The silver flash earlier… “You.”
He gave her a feral smile.
“You followed me here.” Lin said incredulously. “Didn’t expect anyone in the castle my ass. What the hell is wrong with the six of you?”
“We need a princess.” Vaughan said simply.
“Well I’m not one so leave me alone.” She grunted and turned around again to leave. These people must have been complete lunatics if they honestly had followed her here just to make her accept pretending to be the lost princess. The lost princess that everyone knew was dead. Her coat and shoes had been found by the riverbank in the dead of the winter and no one, especially an eight year old, would survive the Florine during December. Why the Galathynius still accepted people claiming to be Aelin was beyond her.
“We would pay you.” Connall called after her and although she didn’t stop, she started walking just a little bit slower.
You do need money, you know?
Lin was going to start calling the annoying voice in her head Stupid Sense and maybe light a few candles to ask for good, old common sense.
She could get the money somewhere else. They would probably only pay her if she was accepted as the princess, and Lysandra couldn’t wait that long.
“And for your passage to Banjali.” Gavriel added.
That made her stop.
“There’s no train to Banjali. The Adarlanian roads are closed in the southern borders.” She replied quietly, still not turning around. A plan was forming in her head, but she didn’t know if the results would outweigh the dangers.
If she accepted their offer, they could pay for her train ticket to Inish. If the Adarlanian borders were closed, the only way to get to Eyllwe was through the Western Wastes. If she said her condition was to go through a route that had Inish in its way, she could be there in little over a month. But then there was the big problem: she didn’t know these men. They could be the worst kind of scum for all she knew, and traveling with all six of them would require her to be always paying attention, minding her surroundings. She would constantly need to have an escape plan. She did know how to fight, and against one of them she might even had stood a chance but all six? She would be dead before she could even draw her knife. No, with them the wisest would be to run.
Maybe that was what she was going to do once they got to Inish. She would grab Lysandra and they would sneak to the Red Desert in a boat, save some money while in Xandria and then go to the Southern Continent. During the time until Inish, she could pretend she intended in faking being princess to the old royals. The perfect plan but that could go wrong in so many ways.
“There are several routes through the Western Wastes.” Gavriel answered her earlier statement.
Fucking bingo.
She slowly turned around to look at them again. If she was going to accept this, she would need to face the risks daily. Being on her guard all the time was exhaustive and Lin really thought she was past that now that she had left the orphanage. But she also knew that it would take months for her to get all the money she needed in Orynth, and for Lysandra she would risk her life.
“I would have… conditions.”
Fenrys smiled like a wolf.
“No shared rooms. I get to keep my weapons. When we are not studying the Galathynius, neither of you speak to me because we are not friends. Or even colleagues. And, the most important, I pick the train and the route.”She crossed her arms and would have taken a more dominant stance if there wasn’t a dog sitting on her feet. “Oh, and the dog comes.”
“You got it, lady.” Fenrys said immediately.
“No, she fucking doesn’t.” Lorcan spoke for the first time since when he scared her. His voice was just as creepy. When he looked at her, she refrained from giving him a scolding glare. “Stay put. We will discuss your… conditions.” And with that the immediately formed a tight circle and spoke in hushed voices.
She rolled her eyes and knelt to take a look at the dog. Now that she wasn’t running after it or away from the group a few meters away, Lin could realize that the dog’s pelt wasn’t that dark of a golden blond as she had imagined, it was just extremely dirty. The paw had some dried blood, and as well as other spots in the pup’s body. One quick check and… yes, female. She was a lovely thing, no more than six months old and despite the dried blood and dirty, she looked pretty decent. And she also couldn’t be badly hurt considering how fast she could run.
“You and I are going on a funny field trip, Fleetfoot.” Despite her nerves, Lin smiled.
—————————————————
“Is there really anything to debate? That girl could be an Ashryver if we only considered her looks.” Fenrys whispered.
“That girl has the manners of a demon.” Rowan replied, leaving his opinion clear in this expression. She didn’t want to do this, much less travel more than a month with that girl.
She somehow got under his skin way too easily. It was like a more witty and smart version of Fenrys. Terrible
“Not the manners, clearly, but that can be adjusted. Again, she looks like an Ashryver.”
“And have you ever seen an Ashryver to know that?” Rowan’s voice came harsher than he intended, but his temper was slipping. He was the only one completely against this stupidity, his brothers seemed to be way too interested in the money that they could get to think clearly.
“Have you?” Fenrys snapped back, and when Rowan didn’t reply, he just went on. Fen was definitely the most excited about this. Earlier, when they were at the cathedral, he was looking outside of the window when he literally squeaked. Everyone knew of the Galathynius that had survived and now lived in Banjali with the Eyllwen royal family and how they sometimes accepted visits of people claiming to be Aelin. None ever actually was Aelin, and Fen thought that they should try their luck. Find a girl who looked like the dead princess, teach her, convince the Galathynius she was Aelin and then get fucking rich by blackmailing the poor girl.
All of them went to the window to look at the girl drinking her ass off on a roof and even Rowan had to admit that she looked like an Ashryver from afar. He didn’t even know she had also seen him until minutes ago when she looked back at him with enough wrath to make him want to take a step back.
The girl was like fucking wildfire, cursing like a sailor, hitting people with vodka bottles and inserting sarcasm in every single sentence.
“Her demands also are acceptable and expected.” Vaughan sided with Fenrys. He had been pissed earlier because he insisted that there were better ways to approach her. Connall said that it was better to have the element of surprise. Rowan just wanted to hit both of them. “She’s a girl traveling with six men, of course she wants weapons and privacy. And after you guys decided to so delicately approach her, it was obvious she wouldn’t be inclined to sit with us during afternoon tea and make friendship bracelets.”
“I didn’t know we had afternoon tea.”
“Connall, for the love of the gods, be quiet.” Gavriel said, giving one of the twins a slap on the back of his head.
As they kept bickering, Rowan let his gaze fall upon the girl. Lin.
Even though he never revealed to any of his friends, Rowan had seen an Ashryver up close. Two actually. A boy around his age at the time who would sneak off the castle to play with the other street boys and a younger girl who looked like his carbon copy. The boy he had seen far more than the girl, being friends with him for a while. Before Rowan could ever fully befriend the girl too, everything had gone to shit.
He still remembered the day when he woke up in a crappy orphanage and everyone was talking about how Aelin Ashryver Galathynius was dead. The king, Orlon, had died in the attack to the castle but Aelin had disappeared. He remembered the pain in his chest in imagining Aedion, his friend and her cousin, discovering he had lost her. He remembered his own pain in imagining the girl he had seen twice but had been kind to him both times, and how he would never befriend her too.
Lin did look like Aelin. If she had survived, the two girls would probably look very much alike. Sharp jawlines, high cheekbones and a small nose, Lin looked as royal as the new queen sitting on the throne. Even if he and Fenrys were right and her manners were a complete disgrace.
A disgrace because she wasn’t a royal. She wasn’t Aelin.
Suddenly, Rowan was pissed and the sight of her only worsened it. It was cruel to go to the Galathynius and present an impostor as their daughter. It was insensitive as fuck for them to play with people like that only for money, and this girl was so quick to accept that it made his stomach turn.
The first sight of her had made his stomach turn too.
“Why does she want to choose the route, though?” Lorcan finally said something, his voice cold. Rowan couldn’t read his face right now, but he knew Lorcan enough to know that he was raging inside because the girl had decked him.
It had been so unexpected that Rowan just stood there blinking.
“Hey, firedrake,” Fenrys said loudly, and Lin’s head snapped up from the dog she was petting. Her eyes narrowed, her impatience and dislike of them simmering off of her. “Why you want to choose the route?”
Rowan held his sigh but Gavriel didn’t.
“Firedrake?” Was all she replied.
“Yeah, every time you opened your mouth was like spewing fire, so what better nickname than a firedrake?” Fenrys smiled and Rowan was sure that if it wasn’t for the dog licking her fingers, she would have attacked him.
“Fuck you. And I want to choose the route because I didn’t lie earlier.”
They just started at her blankly until she smiled, shrugging.
“I have places to be and people to see, wolfie.”
Fen actually laughed and Connall and Vaughan snorted. Gavriel merely smiled but, as Rowan, Lorcan’s face was serious.
Rowan really thought that he would put an end to this. Side with him that this was stupid and that there was no way in hell this could would pass as Aelin.
When Lorcan opened his mouth, though, Rowan’s world fell.
“Welcome to the group, firedrake. Don’t do anything to make me kill you in your sleep.”
The girl had balls, Rowan had to admit, as she smiled sarcastically and almost in a scary way at Lorcan as if to say Likewise.
So Was I
Pairing: Natasha Romanoff x reader, Avengers x reader.
Warnings: angst, strong violence, language.
Part 2/?
You heard footsteps close behind you. Multiples heavy ones. And so you found a place to hide, one that you hoped would cover you, as there was no way you could fight them without armour. But you didn’t want to fight them. All of a sudden, a hand grabbed your shoulder and pulled you sideways, away from the footsteps and into a SHIELD storage room. “What the hell is going on!?”
Thank God. It was Maria. She shook her head and put her hands up in the air not wanting to hear your explanation as it would cost her more time in trying to get you somewhere safe.
It was a few weeks after the terrorising incident now, maybe two months or three. Maria had lent you a room in her apartment to stay at. You were ever so thankful. It had been long enough now. Maybe they had looked back over the file. Maybe they’d taken the time to calm down and maybe give you the opportunity to explain. So you were headed over there. Extremely cautiously. Everywhere was quiet. Not a sound from the tv, not a sound from the kettle, not a sound from anything. Making your way with quiet footsteps to check if the Avenger Quinjet was still there. If it was, they’d still be here. If not, maybe they could be on a mission, or at Clints farm. You dreaded the sight. The sight of the big jet with the Avenger logo sitting still as ever. They were here. You gulped and swallowed back down your heart turning around to the slow, approaching footsteps.
It was Cap. And he had something in his hand, hang on was that your-
He threw it in the ground as it landed right beneath your feet. His shield was strapped onto his arm, and his fight stance was in play.
“Put on your suit, let’s go a few rounds.”
As he said that, the rest of the Avengers all started pouring behind him, one by one.
Tony, Bucky, Bruce, Clint, Wanda, even Vision. And. Natasha.
You bent down slowly and picked up your suit button. Holding it in your hand with one click it began to crawl its way up and around your body. The black Kevlar suit was decorated with a few white stripes to match your white arc reactor. They represented a skeletons body, as it had white bone like patterns spreading from your reactor. And finally your helmet, it was simply a black skull. You reached into your back pocket, throwing away your weapons. They were your family, you didn’t want to hurt them, no matter how much they hated you. You didn’t want to hurt her, and you made a promise to her that you would never.
“I don’t want to fight you.”
Silence.
“Now!” Tony yelled and Cap threw his shield at you, distracting you while they al started racing at you. Bucky was the first one to jump onto you, you did your best to block his punches and you tried to hold his metal arm prisoner. That wasn’t a good idea. You were launched backwards on the ground by him.
Steve came over to you and picked you up by your neck, and slamming down onto the ground, effectively damaging your right side. You wriggled out of it, dodging Clints arrow that had tried to pierce you. Then you were face to face with him. Clint took of his sword swiping it at your face, giving you enough time to react and jump backwards. He kept forcing you back until your back hit a little car that helped the workers get around.
You rolled over along the car as his sword slammed down, taking the bonnet right if the car, you picked up a piece of scrap metal that was large enough to act as a shield. You blocked his slashes and stand with it before knocking the katana out of his hands and hitting him on the head with the metal, making him fall to the ground.
“Get her Romanoff!”
“You can do better than that Banner! “Come on do it!”
“Use your shield Cap!”
Before you could check on him, you’d be jumped by the rest of them team before Tony had you in a headlock, then he had flung you onto the floor. He then began to hover above your chest before lowering himself to you, hands wrapping themselves around your neck.
All you could do was try to claw his hands off of you but when they were covered with met it wasn’t an easy task. So you spluttered out,
“T-Tony. Check. File...Please.”
The genuine look of being sorry in your eyes, made him stutter and freeze his motions of his fingers. He had landed in his feet now giving you some attempt to get up. In his head nothing added up.
If you were Hydra, you’d be fighting for your freedom, so why weren’t you. And your muttered words begging him to check the file crossed his mind. His thoughts disappeared though by oncoming footsteps of his fellow teammates all staring at you waiting in anticipation. They could all see how much it was a struggle for you to get up. Both nostrils were bucketing out blood and your armour had several dents. You had been hit several times by the shield, Bucky had attacked your arc reactor and successfully made a handprint around it. But he was down now, after disabling him arm, it had made him not unconscious but surprisingly tired.
Bruce had given you a nosebleed about 15 minutes ago which hadn’t stopped bleeding. Natasha had thrown several knives at you, creating tiny slashes all over. As well as using her thighs to take you down, she had laid several punches to your abdomen and your face. Tony had used his blast refraction once. Obviously wanting to make you suffer.
After so much effort, you finally got back up onto your feet. You grabbed half of a car door scrap and held it as a shield, shadowing Steve’s stance. Tony had lifted his hand up aiming it at you. And in the pod it held a noise that was able to make Wanda pass out, much like Rhodes had in his suit.
All eyes went to Buckys body and Clint who was just starting to wake. Then her eyes met yours. Her eyes held a lot of disgust towards you, knocking her best friend out. How could you? If looks could kill you’d be dead 23 minutes ago. You looked down to the ground, getting your breath back, your arc reactor had weakened, evident by it flickering. You spoke,
“I’m sorry Tasha, you know I wouldn’t do this if I had any other choice. And I can’t, because your my friends.”
“So was I.”
She she signalled Tony to blast you, which would most likely knock you out and your reactions took place and you held up your ‘shield’ as the blast hit it, pushing you backwards and it bounced the scrap metal to them. Flinging them all backwards. Except for Cap. Who had now spot from hiding behind his shield.
You charged towards each other using what but of strength you had left in you to beat his face. And after several punches he grabbed your first mid air and kicked you right in your stomach, making your stumble backwards, before he grabbed your arm and started jamming his shield onto your chest.
However you turned his shield against him, taking it into your own hands hitting his sides with it and his nose causing it to bleed out. You then launched it at him only for it to crash into his chest, catching it. Your heart was getting weaker, they all could tell by your heavy breathing.
You hard metal footsteps start to run towards you again.
“Not this shit again” you muttered.
Friday herself was panicking, practically begging her boss to stop due to the state you were in.
“This has gone too far!”
“Boss please listen!”
“I’m sorry Sir, this has to be done.”
She powered of his suit, as he backed away from the chaos not wanting to possibly get attacked and have no defence but his hands. His back hit the wall and she powered up his Arc.Hologram.1
And in that hologram was a file of the actual Hydra Agent. Her profile picture was there. Not you. Her date of birth was there. Not yours. He took shallow breaths before he finally realised what they were doing and what he’d done. He tried to communicate through the comms but all he heard was grunts of pain, yelling of where to attack.
“Guys. Steve.” He whispered still in complete shock. Friday took over and read out the birth date, and create a mental image of the actual Hydra Agent using her vocabulary.
By now, Steve had picked you up over his head and chucked you down. He’d then mounted you and landed three very painful and heavy punches to your helmet which was starting to wear off. Friday was hurriedly finishing her sentence before he grabbed his shield, jammed it once into you helmet, jammed in twice into your helmet. Ripped of your helmet. Held the shield high above his head, and had crashed it down straight into your arc reactor.
“I can confirm it is not Agent L/N.”
Everyone had gone silent at this and still. Bruce was leaning against a container. Clint has propped himself up onto his elbow, Bucky was still on the floor, his head turned towards you and Steve. Wanda and Vision didn’t take part and could only watch with frowns. Tony had his mouth open, gasping at the sight that stood before him.
And Natasha, was leaning against a cart, tears flooded her eyes as she was frozen in place. After hearing the confirmation she only then realised what she’d done. And now, with what she could see, her heart broke. Seeing a vibranium shield stuck inside of your chest, she had to place her hand over her mouth to stop herself from screaming. But that didn’t stop the tears. Tears had now began to fall down her face.
You lifted your head up from the ground to look at him in disbelief of what he’d just done. You could feel your breathing get heavier as looked at you once, shut his eyes, took three deep breaths and breathed out the word, “sorry”, before he collapsed off of you and by your side. You took a shaky look at him before blinking twice, to clear your tears, and turned your head to the side before back to the front looking at the shield that was lodged right in front of your face.
He got up after a couple of seconds of shaming himself and with a strong grip, he pulled the shield from your chest and placed it elsewhere. He knelt down beside you, tears starting to form in his eyes as he saw your broken form.
