hello ambrose i am rereading the crown of mortality series (i am obsessed with it!!) and i was just thinking about how (and i might be wrong ab this because i was reading at like 4 am last night) posedawone was the god of the underworld? or something along the lines of that. this is me brainwashing you to give percy underworld powers.
Helloo! Thank you so much for reading and loving TCoM, that means a lot to me.
Yes, Posedawone is a Kthonic deity. In Mykenaean and possibly Cretan and Minoan (I'm not really sure about the latter two so take those inclusions with a grain of salt) ages, he was majorly worshipped as the Enesidawone— the Earth shaker.
He was primarily an Earth God, but he was so important that people considered him the Wanaka Teo (the wanax theo) which literally translates to "King of the Gods". And so, he was king of the underworld and king of the seas and of the sky. He was the ruler, so everything was under his jurisdiction.
There are accounts of him having two queens— Damate (Demeter, though the name literally means "the mother". Another name for her was Sito Potinija "mistress of grains") and Persewa or Preswa (Persephone, where Perse is the root for the ancient Greek word that means "to destroy". Persephone was said to be his daughter, and she was possibly also called Dapotinija or Despoina, but also possibly not because Despoina's true name was revealed to only the most vetted members of her cult. Dapotinija means "The Mistress", with the capital letters and all, because she was the second queen of the underworld along with Damate)
