"Honestly Greg, I don't know how you can put up with my brother!"
Greg watched in amusement as Sherlock paced and ranted in front of his desk because Mycroft had once again interfered with one of his cases. He could have listed countless reasons to answer Sherlock's rhetorical question, but he didn't and simply shrugged his shoulders, letting the other man know that he would have no support from him.
Sherlock, looking offended, left with his head held high, slamming the door to Greg's office.
If Sherlock knew...
There were so many things that made Mycroft endearing to Greg, but most of them were things that only he witnessed because Mycroft trusted him enough to let him see them.
Little details that Greg was discovering in a sometimes incongruous way.
Little things that cracked the impenetrable facade that Mycroft presented outside the intimacy of their home.
Like this morning.
Greg was in the bathroom when he heard shouting from the kitchen, "My pocket square has a coffee stain!"
He had walked to the kitchen and almost laughed when he saw the tiny coffee stain that was almost impossible to see if you didn't know.
He had said with a shrug, " Well, turn it around and no one will see it."
Mycroft had looked at him in horror and exclaimed, "Greg, there is only one way to the pocket square, you should know that by now!"
Greg had to hide the start of a chuckle behind a fake coughing fit and replied, "Well, go change it then. You have so many, you have the choice."
Mycroft had raised his arms in exasperation, "Gregory... you make me desperate. If I change the pouch, I have to change the tie, the socks and the shirt!"
"You're insane." had replied Greg as Mycroft stomped off to the bedroom.
He turned and retorted, "You love me, though."
Greg, who was following slowly behind him, replied, "Yes, I love you, your ties, your socks and your matching pocket squares!"
"You're insane too." Mycroft replied more softly.
"You love me too, though." said Greg as he pushed him towards their room.
To which Mycroft had replied, because he hated to lose a verbal joust, "That's too much sweetness in the morning, you know I drink my coffee black without sugar!"
Greg let him win before kissing him because he knew Mycroft had nothing against the sweetness of their kisses.
"ss... Boss!"
He was pulled out of his reverie by Sally who he hadn't noticed. She was standing in front of his desk with her hands on her hips and a mocking smile on her lips, "I won't ask what you were thinking to get that goofy smile on your face. I'm afraid of the answer."
Greg replied, without losing his smile, "I was just thinking about something sweet."
Ignoring the gagging noises his colleague made, he stood up and they headed for the exit of the building.
In fact, people didn't know how sweet Mycroft was and Greg didn't mind, because he felt like he had a precious treasure. Something that belonged only to him.
Mycroft was sweet.
Sometimes, after a long day's work, when Greg came home very late and Mycroft was already in bed, Greg, exhausted, would crawl into bed while Mycroft was reading, he would put his head on his shoulder and they would talk about their respective days, but often, Greg, too tired, would fall asleep in the middle of the story. When Mycroft noticed this, he would lay him down gently, cover him and turn off the light after kissing him on the forehead.
Mycroft was sweet.
"And see Mycroft, you should have seen Alicia, sitting wisely on the kitchen counter and stirring the sauce as I told her. By the way, that's when you called me."
"Mmh..."
Mycroft had his head in the lap of Greg who ran his hand through his hair as he told him about his visit to his sister and niece.
"Are you listening to me, Myke?"
Greg felt with amusement that he did not have Mycroft's full attention
"Yes Greg, go on..." whispered Mycroft, taking Greg's hand that wasn't in his hair and holding it against his chest.
Greg obeyed and continued his tale, "When we were done, she just turned around and got a tupperware from the cupboard, she handed it to me and said, 'You'll bring some back to Uncle Myke, for both of you tonight.' Too cute right?"
"Mmh..."
"Myke."
Mycroft brought Greg's hand to his lip and said softly, in a sleepy voice, "Keep talking, I want to fall asleep to your voice."
Mycroft was sweet.
On one of their first days off, Mycroft let Greg sleep and made him breakfast in bed.
An amazing tray garnished with a carnation because Mycroft had discovered that it was Greg's favorite flower. And since then there had been many trays, always with a different carnation.
Mycroft was sweet
There was always enough beer in the fridge for Greg.
When Mycroft read the newspaper he always gave Greg the sports page.
He always arranged to have a snack delivered or brought to Greg when he knew he hadn't eaten.
When there was an Arsenal game on, he would change the channel, even if he was watching something else.
And all sorts of little things that showed Greg how much Mycroft cared about him.
Greg was still smiling in retrospect as he stepped out of the car and headed for their house. He didn't even lose his smile as the rain began to pour.
He quickened his pace to make it the hundred or so yards to his house without getting too wet.
"Beautiful stranger, what are you thinking about that you smile like that?"
The moment these words were spoken in that familiar voice, Greg realized that the rain was no longer falling on him.
He turned around to find himself facing Mycroft, who was holding an umbrella over his head.
Mycroft was so sweet.
Greg's smile widened and he replied to Mycroft, "I was thinking about the person who holds this umbrella."
Mycroft replied with a half smile, " So sweet..."
Greg laughed softly, "It takes one to know one."
Then he thought to himself that they were not one sweetness away, he raised himself up on his tiptoes and kissed Mycroft on the cheek before hanging onto the arm of Mycroft who was holding the umbrella.
Arm in arm, they went home.
Mycroft was sweet... but so was Greg.

Texting Mycroft
Another comment by @mottlemoth, another bit of drabble spun out of nothingness and tea. It looks long but only because it’s epistolary. For the record, ‘Indeed, Gregory,’ is one of my FAVOURITE Mycroftian phrases ever ever EVAH.
EDIT: Formatting’s all wonky here in the Feed, apologies.
11.07pm
Heya Myke hows tricks?
11.09pm
Gregory?
11.10pm
Yup.
11.12pm
Good Lord, are you drunk?
11.14pm
Jeez no and who remembers to capitalise the L in good lord?
You should just curse its easier.
11.20pm
Was there a purpose to your message, or are you intending simply to distract me from my tasks?
11.24pm
Nothing in particular. Dinner last night was good.
11.26pm
Bon is not ‘good’. It is one of the top restaurants in London.
11.29pm
Yeah good. Like I said.
Bet they can’t do a kebab like that place near Paddington Station though.
11.32pm
I would be inclined to agree.
11.41pm
So youre having a good day then?
11.43pm
My days are remarkable similar, from one to the next.
This conversation is an exception, of course.
11.44pm
What you don’t usually get coppers texting for a chat? ;)
11.46pm
It is not a common occurrence, no.
11.47pm
Do you have dinner plans tomorrow? I could take you to the kebab place then next time we go to Bon we can ask them to make a kebab and we could compare.
11.48pm
Please tell me you are joking.
11.51pm
About Bon yes.
About kebabs tomorrow tonight no.
12.01am
You want to have dinner with me? Again?
12.04am
Well yeah. I had a good time last night, Myke.
Oops past midnight. You know what I mean.
12.07am
If you are not drunk, please call me Mycroft.
12.08am
Okay. Mycroft.
12.14am
What is the purpose of our potential meeting tonight?
12.15am
To try the kebabs ???
12.17am
To what end?
12.20am
What? I have no idea what youre asking. Just out with it will you
12.25am
Okay a little drunk. Tipsy. Cab home I promise.
12.40am
Mycroft?
12.41am
Fuck. Sorry.
12.45am
Do you have a personal interest in me?
12.47am
What?
12.51am
Are you asking me on a date, Gregory?
12.53am
I guess I am. I mean I dont have anything else to say about Sherlock if thats what you mean.
12.57am
That is our usual purpose.
12.59am
Yes. But we dont talk about him all night, and it would be nice to not have to talk about him at all.
1.00am
You know what I mean.
1.02am
Yes, I do.
1.05am
Why do you believe I would be interested in a date with you?
1.06am
Um, ouch.
1.07am
My apologies, I meant no slight Gregory.
To speak plainly.
1.10am
Yeah?
1.25am
Mycroft. Are you asking why I might think youre gay?
1.31am
Yes.
1.33am
You do fit a certain stereotype, you know.
But that aside, I wasnt sure. I know youre not married and Sherlock seemed to think it was amusing when I asked him if youd ever been.
1.35am
Good Lord, you spoke of this to Sherlock?
1.36am
Ages ago.
Look, if youre not interested just say so. I know even if youre gay you might not be interested. Its fine. As long as we can still keep in touch about your brother Ill get over it.
1.39am
You don’t sound particularly sure, Gregory.
1.41am
Im trying to be nice Mycroft. Christ you havent done this much have you?
1.43am
No.
1.45am
Well, let’s lay it all out there. AMA.
1.46am
I beg your pardon?
1.48am
Ask Me Anything. Its an internet thing according to my niece.
1.50am
Very well.
1.51am
Have you dated men before?
1.52am
Yes. Before I was married, obviously.
1.53am
Were they serious relationships?
1.55am
One was. We lived together for a couple of years.
1.59am
What would be your intentions towards me?
2.00am
I dont understand the question.
2.07am
Are you interested in something short term, or potentially more serious?
2.09am
Difficult question.
2.11am
If you were offering a one off or something casual I would probably take it.
2.11am
But if it was your decision?
2.11am
I want to get to know you Mycroft. Not just a shag and goodbye.
2.18am
Mycroft?
2.19am
I’m here.
Processing.
2.19am
Okay. Take as long as you need.
7.00am
Gregory?
7.02am
Yeah?
7.04am
How long have you been interested in me?
7.05am
A while.
7.07am
How long is a while?
7.09am
Wed be measuring in months.
7.10am
Double digit months.
7.11am
Really?
7.12am
Yep.
7.19am
And why are you extending this invitation now?
7.32am
Its almost my birthday.
7.33am
I’m afraid I don’t understand the significance.
7.46am
My dad had a heart attack and died when he was as old as Ill be next month.
7.47am
Ah. Carpe diem.
7.49am
Yeah. Now or never right? At least Ill know.
7.50am
Indeed.
7.52am
What time would you suggest my car pick you up this evening?
7.55am
Seriously?
8.01am
To answer the same questions as I put to you, Gregory: I have dated men exclusively. None were serious. I would be exceptionally interested in getting to know you, though if a short term or casual arrangement were the only opportunities I would certainly avail myself of them. I have been deeply attracted to you since March 15, 2003, the day we first met at Royal London Hospital.
8.07am
Wow.
Now I know.
8.09am
Yes, you do.
8.14am
See you at 7 tonight.
8.16am
Indeed, Gregory.

Mycroft has always longed to own a home a second home in Iceland. But when he and Greg retire, Mycroft suggests they look for summer homes in warmer climes. He just can’t picture Gregory in Iceland; his instincts tell him his husband will need sunshine, sand, an icy beverage, and a tan to be happy. Greg, who knows Myke’s heart, disagrees and insists they take a long holiday to Iceland, just to see.
Greg falls in love with the country and the househunting begins. As they’re inspecting a luxury property—nothing but the best for Mycroft--Greg notices a collection of buildings going up nearby. He asks the estate agent, who says a private retirement home is being built. Something about old friends who want to spend their twilight years together.
The idea endears Iceland to Greg even more, and he tells Myke that after everyone’s settled, they should make regular visits. He reckons a retirement home must get get awful lonely with a bunch of old folks so isolated with only each other to talk to.

World Cup Part 4
Part One Part Two Part Three
Greg makes a choice, in the morning. He will be wearing his France jersey. All day. And his lucky pants. He’s been casting looks at Mycroft for hours, daring him to do something about it.
Mycroft hasn’t said a thing about it yet. Hasn't seemed like he’s even noticed Greg has it on.
It’s starting to make him a bit nervous.
He forgets once the match is on, of course. It’s close- he paces about the living room to work off the tension until finally, finally, there’s a goal. Great, excellent. Now they just have to hang on- and they do!
Greg flies about the living room. God, he wants a France vs. England final. How fun would that be. Make some bets with the cousins- maybe for who hosts the next get-together... or wagers of nice wine and whiskey....
He’s already into their family texting group when he hears the quiet clearing of a throat behind him.
“Gregory.”
Dammit. He really had to work on making that particular tone of voice not shoot him immediately into half an erection. “Yes, love?”
“I thought we discussed the presence of foreign influences on British soil?”
“Discussion is not quite the word I would use.” Greg smiles coyly. “If it helps, I’ll have my English kit on tomorrow.”
“Hmmm. All these dual allegiances, I just don’t know....” Mycroft leans back in his armchair, sipping a whiskey. Greg thought he’d rather given up on trying to get work done while Cup games were on.
Arching a brow, Greg strides over and perches on the arm of Myke’s chair, switching seamlessly into French. “Is the British Government worried about being penetrated by the might of France?” He drops down into Myke’s lap. “Or do you secretly enjoy it?”
“Are you declaring yourself to be a foreign agent, Gregory?”
“If I say yes, does one of us get to use the cuffs?”
He’s pleased the statement elicits an immediate thoughtful lick of the lower lip and a clear adjusting of position from Mycroft. “Hmmm. An interrogation?”
“A wager, perhaps. If England gets through tomorrow... France against England in the final... I can think of loads of things we could bet.” Greg watches Mycroft’s eyes blow a bit wider as he leans closer. “Of course, England has to win tomorrow... or I suppose in our contest, France will be the winner by default.”
He lets his hand slip lower, into Mycroft’s trousers. “And I have lots of plans for my victory celebration.”
Mycroft lets out a little cough, flushing. “But you’ll be cheering for England tomorrow.”
“Of course, love. You know I love a fair fight.”
Greg winks, shamelessly wiggling his arse in Mycroft’s direction as he rises and trots off to raid their fridge. All’s fair, after all.

"Don't listen to them DO NOT EVER listen to them! " Can it be two in one? If it's possoble then:"Ever wonder if the world would be better off without you...?" also, with Mystrade please. ~
Maybe
[A Mystrade One-Shot]
(Sorry this took forever)
{TW for bullying, homophobia, referenced suicide and self-harm}
“Oh sweetheart, what’d they do to you?”
“I-I’m fine.” He cringed on the ground as Greg approached. He stumbled, trying to stand up.
“This is not what fine looks like.” Greg hurried over, reaching to pick him up.
Mycroft scowled but didn’t object as he was lifted into the other’s arms.
“I got you. Don’t worry.”
He sniffled a little and curled up as Greg carried him out of the school building.
Football practice had just gotten out and Greg was still sweaty. He hated his bastard teammates. If only he had been one of the first ones out, he could have protected Mycroft like he was supposed to. No use being an athlete if he couldn’t even keep his boyfriend from getting beat up. “M’so sorry, Myke.”
“Not your fault.”“Should have protected you.”
“G-Gregory?” He looked up, trying to fight the tears.
“Yes, love?”
“Ever wonder if the world would be better off without you?”
Greg felt something snap inside of him. How dare they? How fucking dare they? He went quiet, walking with a rush of determination to the nearest bench. He sat Mycroft down and took a deep breath, kneeling in front of him. “Don’t….”
Mycroft looked up at him, a hint of fear in his eyes.
“Don’t- Don’t you listen to them. DO NOT EVER listen to them!” He huffed, his breath and words ragged. “You hear me? Don’t.” He felt tears welling up as he hugged his boyfriend tight, squeezing his eyes shut. “I’ll kill them, Myke. I’ll fucking kill them.”
“It’s not necessary,” Mycroft whispered through sobs. “I’m fine.”
“A fine person doesn’t say those things, Myke!”
“The just forget it!” He stood up, ignoring the searing pain leftover from the beating. “Forget I said it, then! Forget I couldn’t take care of myself! Forget any of this happened! Forget you’re dating a freak!” He marched away, fuming and breathing in heavy, ragged sobs.
It was easy for Greg to catch up to him and wrap his arms around him from behind.
“Let go of me.”
“No.”“Why? Why don’t you trust me?!”
“Because I love you,” he muttered calmly, sitting down on the ground and pulling Mycroft down into his lap. “And I would never let anything happen to you. What did they say?”
Mycroft shook a little, the words still swimming in his mind.
“What a little freak.”
“Look at the faggot.”“No one likes you, you know?”
“He can do better than a freak like you.”
“No one would miss you.”
“He’d find someone else.”“Slit your wrists already.”
“Just do us all a fucking favor.”
He didn’t answer the question. He couldn’t. Instead he just sobbed. He sobbed, and Greg held him, and they sat there, on the front yard of the school, for god knows how long.
“I love you.”
“I love you too.”
“Maybe one day you’ll love yourself.”
“Maybe.

I’ve been meaning to tell you
Summary:
Greg has made a decision, after months of cordial, then friendly relationship, he can't take it anymore and he wants to confess his feelings to Mycroft. Will Mycroft let him?
Notes:
I love « getting together » stories and Greg and Myke are such good candidates...

How do you tell someone you love them?
How do you tell someone you love them when you know you'll never be worthy of them?
How was he supposed to tell Mycroft that he loved him?
Greg wondered, for the hundredth time.
How could he tell Mycroft that he loved him after months of more or less sarcastic exchanges, months of stormy collaboration to preserve Sherlock's health, then months of secret admiration for Greg, and finally weeks of total adoration?
Greg was walking back and forth in front of Mycroft's office, without deciding to enter.
Now it was dark, and Anthea had left the premises twenty minutes ago.
Greg was absolutely sure of this, he just knew that if he didn't do it now, he never would. It's the proverbial "now or never" situation. Taking a deep breath, he entered the building, stomped over to Mycroft's office and put his hand on the doorknob. He closed his eyes and practically burst into the office, stumbling across the threshold and nearly collapsing on the carpet.
Great, fancy way to announce my arrival, Greg thought. He took a deep breath and opened his eyes. Mycroft was standing closer to Greg than he expected and met his piercing gaze directly, giving him the impression that Mycroft knew everything. That he knew exactly why Greg was there.
They continued to stare at each other in silence, neither of them wanting to be the first to break it for fear of the words that would fill it.
Then Greg couldn't hold on any longer and said the first words. They didn't come out the way he wanted them to, but it was still a start.
"Mycroft, I..."
His voice failed him, he suddenly felt stupid and dumb, all his years and experience disappearing as if they had never happened, as if he were a teenager again confessing his love for the first time.
Greg had never been afraid of Mycroft before. But right now, he's completely terrified of what Mycroft might say to him after hearing Greg's confession.
He cleared his throat and tried again. "Mycroft, I..." He stopped again, this time not because of himself, but because of Mycroft's hand raised in front of him. "Inspector... Gregory, stop. Please."
Mycroft's eyes were stern, but his voice was filled with a feeling that Greg couldn't quite decipher now. Mycroft's own face was tense as if he didn't like what was about to happen.
It was so rare for him to call Greg by his full name that Greg smiled faintly, a shy, yet happy smile. Mycroft recoiled as if he had been struck. Greg saw it and felt it, but against all odds, this reaction of Mycroft's actually gave Greg proof that he was not mistaken, that what he meant was also true for Mycroft.
Greg took a step forward. Mycroft took a step back.
Greg now saw him so clearly that he was surprised he had not realized it earlier. Mycroft, Mycroft, was afraid, afraid of him, of Greg, and of himself, and of that strange unknown feeling which they both seemed to harbor, but which they did not want to acknowledge, either to themselves or to each other.
But that was no longer the case. Greg was going to see to that. He took another step forward. Mycroft took a step back. Greg's lips curved again into a small smile. This was ridiculous. They were both adults and they both wanted the same thing. Why was it so hard to say?
"Mycroft."
The man visibly flinched when Greg said his name. Greg continued, however, knowing it was not out of disgust.
"Mycroft, I need to tell you something." Greg desperately hoped his voice was firm and confident and conveyed the urgency he felt in his heart.
"Gregory, I know. I know what you mean. You don't have to say it. In fact, you shouldn't say it at all, or be here at all, for that matter."
Greg took a step forward. Mycroft took a step back. It was the last step he could take. Mycroft was now leaning against his desk. He could no longer escape.
"No. I have to say it, and you have to listen. And we have to stop pretending it doesn't exist."
Greg took a step forward. Mycroft placed his hands on the desk behind him, as if preparing for an impending attack.
Greg smiled softly and tilted his head to the side. "I think there's something pretty special between us, and I think it can be even more special. If you let it." Greg added softly.
Mycroft looked at Greg with shining eyes, his fingers gripping the edge of the desk. Greg covered the distance between them in two long strides. He was now right in front of Mycroft.
Greg touched Mycroft's cheek with his fingertips and the man closed his eyes, exhaling with a shudder. "Mycroft, what are you so afraid of?"
Mycroft's eyes snapped open.
"Of you." Mycroft exhaled the word, his voice barely audible. "You, that you will leave once you see that I am not what you expect."
Stunned, Greg took Mycroft's face in his hands and rested his forehead against Mycroft's. "Mycroft. No." He whispered against the lips of the man he had not yet kissed. "Never."
Mycroft smiled sadly. "You don't know that. You can't know that now. You're blinded by what you feel, by this silly admiration, by your image of me, and you can't know if it will work. You don't know what I've done."
Greg stepped back a little to meet Mycroft's eyes. "I know. Believe me, please. I know."
"How?"
Greg smiled and shrugged. "I just know, that's all. I suspect what your profession implies. I'm not naive or stupidly infatuated."
Mycroft closed his eyes and shook his head in Greg's hands. "You're still so optimistic and I'm too jaded for that. I'm too old to be heartbroken."
Mycroft whispered so softly that Greg barely heard him. He hadn't expected anything so sentimental from a man as reserved and composed as Mycroft.
He stroked Mycroft's cheekbones with his thumbs. "You're not old. I'm older than you. And don't you think that if anyone should be afraid of having their heart broken it should be me. And yet here I am laying my heart bare before you."
He lifted his face and something he had been dreaming of doing for some time now. He gently kissed Mycroft.
Mycroft gasped and his lips parted a little. Greg continued, his lips barely leaving Mycroft's, "I will never break your heart. I will cherish it and cherish it with all my being, if you will let me."
Greg dropped his forehead onto Mycroft's shoulder, his hands sliding over his shoulders. Mycroft's hands touched Greg's waist. It was light and hesitant, almost a graze. But even through layers of clothing, Greg could feel the warmth of his hands. Greg encouraged him by gently wrapping his arms around him, as if he was afraid Mycroft would run away at any moment.
Mycroft's grip on Greg's waist tightened. They were now holding each other in the middle of the office, and Greg thought he was the happiest person in the world.
Greg could feel Mycroft exhale deeply and this time it was Mycroft who took the initiative. He took Greg's face in his hands and kissed him gently.
Greg couldn't help but smile into the kiss before responding with all his heart. Then, suddenly feeling the urgency in him, he took the hands of Mycroft, which was on his face.
"Mycroft, wait..." he said breathlessly, "I have to tell you something."
Mycroft leaned toward his lips again, but Greg stopped him, "Stop, listen to me."
He inhaled once more and said outright, "I love you."
Mycroft froze for a brief moment then put his arms around Greg and holding him tightly, he whispered against his ear, "I love you."
As the embrace continued, Greg thought he knew the exact answer to the question he had been asking himself.
How do you tell someone you love them?
By simply saying it.

That thing where you write long Mystrade fics...
... and you have to keep checking:
How many siblings of which gender you gave Greg in this one.
What middle names you went for in the end (”I swear it was ‘Alexander’ in chapter five... but was that a different fic’s chapter five??”)
Whether this Myke will answer to Myke or not.
And whether you went for Myke or Myc.
Whether Greg gets ‘Gregory’ or ‘Greg’ (or if we’re still on a narrow-eyed “inspector”).
If we’re past “inspector”, this particular fic’s fluffy pet names (”darling”, “scoundrel”, ”beast”, etc.)
Birthdays/star-signs. (damn, I made Greg a Scorpio this time... but the gorgeous bastard is quite clearly turning out a Leo...)
If this one was an elegantly virginal Mycroft or whether he swears like a docker the second the bedroom door is shut.
Which of them has the cheesecake obsession this time.
Note to self: make a spreadsheet.
