Acts 16: 25 - 26

When God visits; past promises and prophecies are turned into reality.

Tangible results are seen. When God visited the earth, in Jesus, by his birth, prophecies given hundreds of years before were fulfilled.

Divine visitation is the answer to every form of frustration and stagnation in your life.

Every divine visitation always culminates in supernatural manifestation.

When God steps into any difficult situation in your life, His mighty acts, signs and wonders are inevitable.

When the divinity decides to visit humanity, there is some evidence it produces. And these evidences are what we call the result.

Divine visitation always brings supernatural manifestation.

When God steps into any difficult situation which human beings thought are impossible miracles, signs and wonders follow. Restoration, Salvation, Fruitfulness, and deliverance takes place.

As much as there is also divine visitation of God, he can also release judgment on the wicked as was in the cases of Korah, Dathan and Abiram, (Num. 16:27-30); and Sodom and Gomorrah (Gen. 18:20-21). In reverse, we can provoke divine visitation by praising God all the times.

A good example is the story of Paul and Silas. The bible says," And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed".

Here we see how Paul and Silas organized a music concert which was attended not only by their fellow prisoners but also by the father, Son and the Holy Spirit. One of the things that provoke the hand of God for a speedy intervention is praise.

Do you need a speedy intervention of the Almighty in your own matter today, then you have to learn to praise.

Also fasting and prayer can also provoke divine visitation.

In Dan 10:2-3 says," In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled". Here we can see clearly that Daniel attracted an Angelic Visitation through prayer and fasting.

God responds faster when we add fasting to our prayers. Fasting can be said to be a sacrifice that attracts God’s divine presence.

Finally we are also able to provoke God for a speedy intervention through exercising violent Faith.

In 1 Kings 18:4 says: “And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain”.

Here prophet Elijah exercised a violent kind of faith; he told Ahab that there is going to be rain in abundance when there was no sign of rainfall.

A man of faith sees beyond the ordinary; he sees with the eye of the supernatural; he sees possibilities in the midst of impossibility. Today, in this challenging season, what do you see?

The Difficulty of "Unanswered Prayer"

"My eyes are ever towards the Lord, for He shall pluck my feet out of the snare: look Thou upon me, and have mercy on me; for I am alone and poor. "My eyes are forever turned towards the Lord: for He shall release my feet from the snare; look upon me and have mercy on me, for I am abandoned and destitute. " — Psalm 24 (25): 15, 16.

THE THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT: MARCH 11th, A.D. 2012 THEME: The difficulty of "unanswered prayer".

This Introit Psalm which sets the tone for our Lenten Sunday Mass today is the expression of a soul praying to God in the midst of great distress — indeed, it is the prayer of a soul who finds itself without any recourse to ordinary means: only God can help.

One thing we are taught with certainty, and which is reinforced with great emphasis during these days of Lent, is that God will always respond to the humble prayer of faith. Think of it: God commands us to pray so that He might help us. When Christ’s disciples asked of Him, "Lord, teach us how to pray," He taught them that perfect prayer of petition which is the Lord’s Prayer, the Our Father (the "Pater Noster" in Latin). To put it simply, through Our Lord Jesus we are both commanded and invited to ask of God every worthy thing — no matter how small and personal to us.

The difficulty is, of course, as every person who struggles with the life of faith knows, prayers do not work like magic with God. We are commanded to pray and yet many of the things we pray for remain seemingly unanswered — and I stress that phrase seemingly unanswered, because, in truth, there is no such thing as an "unanswered prayer".

I want to consider then, how are we to make sense of the difficulty of seemingly unanswered prayer. Why is it that certain prayers seem to be unanswered by God?

First of all, we have to discount prayers which are made with a bad heart and are not reflective of faith. (In St. Luke’s Gospel, Chapter II, for example) there were those who when Jesus delivered a man from a demonic spirit, they attributed it to the power of Satan: "He casteth out devils by beelzebub, the prince of devils. And others, tempting, asked of Him a sign from heaven." At other times and places, such as in his own town of Nazareth, Our Lord could work few miracles on account of their lack of faith.

Why? Because He had not the power? No, because He would not act where he did not find humble hearts. Where He found defiance and a "show me" attitude, He held back. And so God does…

Secondly, God will reject prayers for bad or foolish things, or that betray a fundamentally unreal approach to the duties of life— the prayer to win it big in the lottery for example.

But what about prayers, our prayers, that do come from faith, and with an awareness of our unworthiness, and yet seem to be unanswered? Three things.

1) God may grant it, but not right away. For the sake of a greater good, especially our own, He will require us to pray for an intention a long time, maybe even a very long time. Yes, it is a test. And we just have to accept that.

2) God may refuse it. There was nothing wrong in us asking, but for whatever reason, God’s answer was no.

3) Finally — and this is crucial — God is saying yes, but at first glance it looks to us as if He’s not hearing or He’s not doing good by us.

It’s like this. We can only ask according to what seems best to us. But our viewpoint is so small. We’re limited human creatures and our thinking is often muddled and mistaken about the truth of things. We don’t see what God sees so we never really know what’s best for us. We have to trust in His Goodness and His Mercy. And when it comes to the life of prayer, we have to grasp this saying of Saint Ambrose: "God always gives more that He is asked."

So, do not lose heart in praying to God. He is hearing you and He is answering you. There is no such thing as an unanswered prayer. Pray in the spirit of the opening verses of Psalm 24(25):

"To thee, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul: in thee, O My God, I put my trust. Let me never be put to shame."

Lenten Prayers and Meditations

Lord Jesus, help me to walk with You each day of my life, even to Calvary. The sorrow and joy, the pain and healing, the failures and triumphs of my life are truly small deaths and resurrections that lead me closer to You. Give me the faith and trust I need to walk with You always. Amen.

Mary, Mother of our Redeemer and our most Blessed Mother, be with us through life’s journey. As you comforted Jesus on the road to Calvary by your silent and loving presence, as you held his lifeless body close to your Immaculate Heart, as you offered the sadness and suffering that only a mother can feel when she sees the suffering of her child, look upon me as you looked at Jesus.

See His marred image in my frail nature; hold me close to your mother’s heart in my moments of temptation and sin; and pray for me that I may be for God what I was created to be. A LIVING IMAGE OF JESUS. Amen.

Lord Jesus Christ, you gather your people during this holy season of Lent, and you call us to repent and believe the Gospel. Remove any barriers that keep us from you so that we might live fully the life we received at Baptism and carry our cross each day. You have given us Padre Pio of Pietrelcina as a modern image of the Suffering Savior, our Lord Jesus Christ. Through his intercession and your divine grace, may we turn to you in our need, thank you in our abundance, and share your love with the world around us. Amen. (excerpted from prayers of Padre Pio)

We should all remember that when praying there is no such thing as an unanswered prayer One way or another the Lord does answer our Prayers sometimes we are just too busy to recognize it!

Today’s reading from the ancient book of Proverbs and book of Psalms

for August 27 of 2021 with Proverbs 27 and Psalm 27, accompanied by Psalm 69 for the 69th day of Astronomical Summer and Psalm 89 for day 239 of the year (now with the consummate book of 150 Psalms in its 2nd revolution this year)

[Proverbs 27]

Don’t brag about what may happen tomorrow

because you have no idea what it will bring.

Let someone else praise you;

compliments are always sweeter from a stranger’s lips than from your own.

Heavy is rock and weighty is sand,

but more burdensome than either is the anger of a fool.

Wrath is fierce and anger is a tidal wave of fury,

but who of us can stand up against jealousy?

Open rebuke is better

than hidden love.

Wounds inflicted by the correction of a friend prove he is faithful;

the abundant kisses of an enemy show his lies.

The person who is full has no interest in honey;

but to the starving, bitterness itself is sweet.

Like a bird that strays far from its nest,

so is a person who forsakes his own home.

The heart is delighted by the fragrance of oil and sweet perfumes,

and in just the same way, the soul is sweetened by the wise counsel of a friend.

A song of David.

The Eternal is my light amidst my darkness

and my rescue in times of trouble.

So whom shall I fear?

He surrounds me with a fortress of protection.

So nothing should cause me alarm.

When my enemies advanced

to devour me alive,

They tripped and fell flat on their faces into the soil.

When the armies of the enemy surround me,

I will not be afraid.

When death calls for me in the midst of war,

my soul is confident and unmoved.

I am pleading with the Eternal for this one thing,

my soul’s desire:

To live with Him all of my days—

in the shadow of His temple,

in the company of His people.

His house is my shelter and secret retreat.

Safety sits with me in the hiding place of God.

I cannot shout any louder. Eternal One—hear my cry

The prodding of my heart leads me to chase after You.

I am seeking You, Eternal One—don’t retreat from me.

You have always answered my call.

Don’t hide from me now.

Don’t give up on me in anger at Your servant.

You have always been there for me.

Don’t throw me to the side and forget me,

my God and only salvation.

My father and mother have deserted me,

yet the Eternal will take me in.

O Eternal, show me Your way,

shine Your light brightly on this path, and make it level for me,

for my enemies are lurking in the recesses and ravines along the way.

They are watching—hoping to seize me.

Do not release me to their desires or surrender me to their will!

Liars are standing against me,

breathing out cruel lies hoping that I will die.

I will move past my enemies with this one, sure hope:

that with my own eyes, I will see the goodness of the Eternal

in the land of the living.

Please answer me: Don’t give up.

Wait for the Eternal in expectation, and be strong.

Again, wait for the Eternal.

Meditation: Do you nourish your faith with prayerful reflection of the word of God? When Nicodemus heard about Jesus' miracles and extraordinary teaching, he decided to meet with him privately, away from the crowds and the public spotlight. Nicodemus was no ordinary Jew. He was a religious ruler and member of the Sanhedrin, which was the supreme court of the Jews, and a teacher of Israel (John 3:10). He was a devout Pharisee who sought to perfectly follow the law of Moses, as prescribed in the Five Books of Moses (Genesis, Exodus, Deuteronomy, Leviticus, and Numbers) and further elaborated in the numerous scribal laws, recorded in the Mishnah and the Talmud.

Nicodemus decided to meet with Jesus at night, possibly for two reasons. He may have been cautious and not ready to publicly associate himself with Jesus since many Pharisees opposed Jesus' teaching and called him a Sabbath breaker. It is also likely that Nicodemus chose the night as the best time for seeking a private and undisturbed conversation with Jesus. The rabbis declared that the best time to study the law was at night after the day's work was completed and the household was at rest. When Nicodemus saw Jesus he addressed him as rabbi (a teacher of God's word and law) and acknowledged that Jesus' teaching came from God.

How can one get right with God and enter his kingdom?

Jesus' conversation with Nicodemus went to the very heart of the Mosaic law - how can one get right with God and enter God's kingdom? Jesus' answer was brief and startling: "Unless one is born anew, he cannot see God." The new birth which Jesus spoke about was not a physical birth but the beginning of a spiritual birth which is something completely new and radical, and from above, namely from God himself. Jesus said that this rebirth was necessary if one was to enter God's kingdom. Nicodemus thought that to be born again, even spiritually, was impossible. He probably knew too well from experience that anyone who wants to be changed from within, can't accomplish this by oneself. Jesus explained that this change could only come about through the work and action of the Holy Spirit. This rebirth in the Spirit is very real and experiential, like the wind which can be felt and heard while it is visibly unseen to the naked eye.

Rebirth to new life in the power of the Holy Spirit

What does it mean to be reborn in the Spirit? The new birth which Jesus speaks of is a spiritual birth to a life which is transformed through the power of God. This new life brings us into an experiential relationship with God as his adopted sons and daughters (Romans 6:4; 8:10-11). This new birth is made possible when one is baptized into Christ and receives the gift of the Holy Spirit. God wants to renew all of his people in the gift of new life in his Holy Spirit. This new life in the Spirit brings us into God's kingdom of righteousness, peace, and joy (Romans 14:17).

What is the kingdom of God - which is also called the kingdom of heaven? God's kingdom - his reign and blessing as King over us - is the abundant everlasting life and power from heaven which God shares with those who accept him as the Eternal Father and Author of Life and Ruler of All he has created. Jesus explains in the prayer he gave to his disciples, what we call the Lord's Prayer or the Our Father, that God's kingdom is that society of men and women who acknowledge God as their Lord and Ruler and who obey his word and live according to his will on earth as it is in heaven (Matthew 6:10).

We are sons and daughters of God and citizens of his kingdom

To be reborn in the Spirit is to enter that society in which God is honored and obeyed. Those who willingly accept God's rule in their lives become citizens of God's heavenly kingdom and members of God's family - his adopted sons and daughters. And they enter into possession of the life which comes from God himself, an everlasting life of love, peace, joy, and freedom from sin, oppression, and corruption. Do you know the joy and freedom of the new birth and abundant life which Jesus Christ has won for you?

"Lord Jesus Christ, you offer us abundant new life and power to live as sons and daughters of our Father in heaven. Renew in me the gift of faith to accept and obey your life-giving word and to cooperate with the transforming power of your Holy Spirit who changes us into your likeness. May your kingdom come and your will be done in my life today, tomorrow, and always."

EASTER PRAYER

“Grant to Your servants, even as they speak Your words, complete assurance by stretching forth Your hand in cures and signs and wonders to be worked in the name of Jesus, Your holy Servant.” —Acts 4:29-30

Alleluia! Jesus has risen! He lives, and we shall live with Him forever! Alleluia!

Happy Easter season! I hope this Easter season is getting better and better for you each day. If, however, the Easter Spirit is stifled in your life, pray the prayer of Acts 4:29-30. The effects of this prayer will shake you up (Acts 4:31). The Lord will confirm your proclamation of His Resurrection with signs and wonders (Mk 16:17). You will be filled again with the Holy Spirit and will continue “to speak God’s word with confidence” (Acts 4:31).

Don’t just pray Acts 4:29-30 once and then forget about it. It may take time to open up and receive the answer to your prayer. As at the first Pentecost, keep praying for nine days or longer, until you have no doubt the Lord has given you complete assurance in proclaiming His Resurrection by stretching forth His hand “in cures and signs and wonders.” Then pray Acts 4:29-30 for someone else. When you see your prayer being answered, tell the other person that you’re praying Acts 4:29-30 on their behalf. Ask him or her to pray with you, and to choose another person for whom to pray this prayer. Pray with “complete assurance” (Acts 4:29).

Prayer: Father, may I persevere in prayer for the greatest Easter season ever.

Promise: “I solemnly assure you, no one can enter into God’s kingdom without being begotten of water and Spirit.” —Jn 3:5

Praise: In a calm, clear voice, Angie speaks the truth of the Catholic Faith.

Being fully present often takes some self discipline and allows us to take life a few minutes at a time. If you’re thinking about the past, you're generally caught up in guilt and regrets of which there is nothing you can do about it. Guest Blog: Katie Tippett Introduces Selah ~ Pause and Praise

Five years ago, I put my fussy baby in the car and started driving. She didn’t want to nap, but she was just so tired. And sometimes a car ride would soothe her. I had so much to do, but she was screaming, and I was desperate for just a moment to myself. I was a new mom in a new city. I had no friends, and 3 part time jobs. We had moved to a new place – this pretty little island – for a fresh start. But it just didn’t seem to be clicking. We had given up so much security to make this move because we felt led – guided – to THIS place. And now? I was honestly just exhausted. I had no direction. I was dragging my baby all over town to my day jobs, and handing her off to my husband at bedtime to go to my night time job. I felt like everything was a big mistake. Why did God bring me here?

As I drove endless loops around the island, I gritted my teeth and tried to sing soothingly. I didn’t want her to pick up on my anxiety. I wanted to be a place of rest and peace for my baby. So with a white knuckled grip on the steering wheel, I sang lullabies while my heart wrenched wildly for answers. And then, finally, silence in the back seat. She had dozed off, but I didn’t dare stop driving or singing for a long time. I focused on signing lullabies in the quiet car, feeling alone and wondering what it was all for. After a few songs in the quiet stillness, the tears began to fall. I wept all by myself in the car with my sleeping baby riding peacefully in the back seat. My tears turned me to prayer, and I angrily asked God, Why did you lead me here? This is not working. I feel like I’m meant for more than being exhausted. What do you want from me? Expecting silence – nothingness – I was surprised when He answered me. As if He were right there in my passenger seat – a gentle friend, unafraid of my tears and my anger – He breathed peace over me, Stop. Lay this all down. Be still and focus on your family now, and I will do the rest. Trust Me. I have a plan for you. I breathed deep and calm, but my heart raced with the excitement of His presence. I found my resolve in Him, and that day, I began to lay it all down.

I left 2 of my jobs, and within a year, I would leave the last job as well. I withdrew myself from social media, and turned my attention to my little family. In the beginning I was bored and lonely and confused. When I was busier, it was easier to avoid my pain. But now at home with my baby and no distractions, I was forced to face my pain. And over time, God worked in my heart, and a question rose to the surface. I asked myself this one question when I was struggling with contentment, overwhelmed with uncertainty, or exhausted from mothering a toddler while pregnant with the next babe. I asked it again and again when I felt lonely, or without purpose, or even apart from God, I asked it – a question that would eventually evolve into my mantra, my mission, my message born from my mess. I would ask simply, Where is my joy in this moment? And I would search for whatever sliver of truth or beauty I could find in that very moment. Once I found it, I said only, Thank You for Your gift. This very small and simple practice made a thousand mundane moments meaningful. It shaped a vision and a purpose in my life. It glorified God in the in between spaces of mothering – the dish washing and the rocking and the laundry and the vacuuming. Those spaces became sacred and holy spaces – overflowing with gifts of grace from my Father. My joy in a moment might come from the color of my baby’s hair or the sound of her laugh. It might come from the feeling of a cool breeze at my back or from the flash of a bright red cardinal swooping across my yard. Miracles abounded. When I just looked. After months of this practice, I stumbled across a word in Psalms – Selah. It felt lyrical and lovely, and it appealed to me instantly. When I looked up the meaning, I knew God was naming the question I had been asking myself. Selah means to pause and reflect – or give praise. Click To TweetIt’s mostly used in the Psalms to prompt a pause in reading – as if instructing the reader to pause and find the value in the passage. And isn’t that exactly what I had trained myself to do in my life? Pause and find the value? Pause and praise.? Selah. It was named. And when something is named, it is known and knowable. Once Selah – my practice of pause and praise – was named, I began teaching it. And today I’ve taught it to hundreds of women. Selah is why God told me to be still. It’s why He needed me to sit in my pain. It’s what He needed me to learn to transform my own life, and to love His people better. He needed me to be still so He could prepare me for the work he had laid out for me. It is still the message in my heart and my prayer for you – to learn to Selah. You can do it right now, where you are, whatever your life looks like. He is waiting for you to be still so He can show you something beautiful. So sister, if you find yourself in a season of uncertainty, overwhelm, or exhaustion - or if your life just doesn’t look the way you thought it would – keep your heart. The God of the universe crafted you for purpose and for abundance. So Selah. And see all that He has prepared for you. And the best part? Friend, He tells us just what to do find Him in the midst of it all. He gives us a plan right here in Scripture: Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable--if anything is excellent or praiseworthy--think about such things. (Philippians 4:8). Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will. (Romans 12:2) …we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. (2 Corinthians 10:5) Do you see it? He’s telling us to train our minds. To control our thoughts. Take every thought captive… So what’s flowing through your mind today? Can you take captive every thought? Can you think about what’s lovely and pure and noble and praiseworthy? Once you can, then you can be transformed by the renewing of your mind. He’s waiting to show you what He has for you. Selah, sister. Pause and praise. And you’ll find Him. You can practice Selah in any moment. At a red light, washing the dishes, in car line, doing your makeup, changing a diaper, cooking dinner, or paying bills…pause, breathe, and name what you find. There will be good right there in that moment. And you know what? Nothing is too small to be named. Nothing is too insignificant to point to God. It could be your baby’s smile or your hot coffee. It could be the roof over your head or the sun on your face. It’s all abundance and it’s all meant to be delighted in. So delight in it. Don’t hold back. Grab every true and beautiful piece of your every day life and praise God for it. If you can do that, you can change your life. Love + Light, Katie From the Selah Toolbox: To start practicing Selah, you’ll need a plan. A great tool to begin your own practice is to set a few pause and praise triggers throughout your day. Think through your day and find a few spaces in your day that you can make pause and praise triggers. Every time you come to the trigger, no matter your current state of mind, just take a deep breath and pause to look for reasons to praise. One of my triggers is a sign over my couch. It says Be happy for this moment. This moment is your life. I can see it from my kitchen sink, and every night after dinner, when the kids are running wild and my back hurts and there’s a sink full of dishes, I take my place to start washing and I see that sign. It triggers me to reframe my situation. Instead of feeling like a tired mama with an aching back, I begin to see myself as a daughter of a King. Blessed with beautiful and lively babies, a strong body, and a wildly abundant life. Try creating your own triggers and let me know how it goes!

"That I May Know Him in Power and Through Suffering"

The spiritually mature apostle Paul said, “For my determined purpose is that I may know Him [that I may progressively become more deeply and intimately acquainted with Him, perceiving and recognizing and understanding the wonders of His Person more strongly and more clearly], and that I may in that same way come to know the power outflowing from His resurrection[ which it exerts over the believer], and that I may so share His sufferings as to be continually transformed [in spirit into His likeness]”(Philippieans3:10). Paul understood that for him to know the wonders of Jesus more deeply and for him to be gradually transformed into Christ likeness, there would be times he would experience the overflowing power of His resurrection, and He also knew that he must be willing to experience and be intimately connected with Jesus while pressing through times of suffering. We all shout “hallelujah” with the thought of experiencing the passion of God’s resurrection power! When we feel His glorious presence- when we experience His powerful healing- when we walk in joyous faith- when with the voice of triumph, we shout praises unto God- when He faithfully brings us through trying times- when prayers are answered-and when His love reigns and pushes fear out of our lives. During these victorious times we experience the power of His resurrection, we feel and we know He is with us, and we understand He is close and part of our joyous reality and glorious eternal future. On the other hand, knowing and fellowshipping with Christ during suffering and through hard times does not sound so inviting to our natural man. Yet, there will be seasons of suffering that will come to all of us that live on fallen planet earth. Paul said that during times of suffering it is God’s desire to come close, feel the pain with us, and do a transforming miracle of grace, by giving our hearts a settled place of peace and rest, even in the midst of the hard. It would not be called suffering, if it was not hard. He wants us trust Him and fellowship with Him, during these hard times, as we press deeper into His wounded side. He desires we learn about this kind of fellowship to increase our personal faith, and that He may also use us to fellowship in the sufferings of others, who are hurting, broken, defeated, and not be afraid. God’s ability to transform, overcome, and reign through the power of His steadfast love defeats the negative consequences of suffering, and is the overcoming victory He gives to those whose determined purpose is to know Him in a deeper way! Yet when suffering comes personally or to others we care about, we have the human tendency to run away from feelings that make us feel afraid or out of control. Without realizing what we are doing, many times we cover fear with anger or hurt with self-pity or we question the goodness of God, which keeps us from seeing the gracious and lasting plans He has created for each of us individually. It is important that during times of fear, suffering or confusion that we don’t run away from God. We must run to Him with our whole heart and pour out our discombobulated raw emotions onto Him – allowing Him to come close and feel them with us. Through this powerful connection, God’s amazing grace will be worked into our hearts and minds, and in time, a settling rest will enter our hearts and souls. This is a work of the Holy Spirit, and this work will eventually help us grow in faith and in an intimate Oneness with Christ. We are God’s workmanship and He will never leave or forsake us- He will continue the work He began! So, let us run with passion towards His abundance so that we may reach the purpose that Jesus Christ has called us to fulfill and wants us to discover. (Philippians3:12).

Word for Today

Acts 16: 25 -26

When God visits; past promises and prophecies are turned into reality. Tangible results are seen. When God visited the earth, in Jesus, by his birth, prophecies given hundreds of years before were fulfilled.

Divine visitation is the answer to every form of frustration and stagnation in your life. Every divine visitation always culminates in supernatural manifestation.

When God steps into any difficult situation in your life, His mighty acts, signs and wonders are inevitable. When the divinity decides to visit humanity, there is some evidence it produces. And these evidences are what we call the result.

Divine visitation always brings supernatural manifestation. When God steps into any difficult situation which human beings thought are impossible miracles, signs and wonders follow. Restoration, Salvation, Fruitfulness, and deliverance takes place.

A good example is the story of Paul and Silas. The bible says," And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one's bands were loosed".

Here we see how Paul and Silas organized a music concert which was attended not only by their fellow prisoners but also by the father, Son and the Holy Spirit.

One of the things that provoke the hand of God for a speedy intervention is praise. Do you need a speedy intervention of the Almighty in your own matter today, then you have to learn to praise.

Also fasting and prayer can also provoke divine visitation. In Dan 10:2-3 says," In those days I Daniel was mourning three full weeks.

I ate no pleasant bread, neither came flesh nor wine in my mouth, neither did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled".

Here we can see clearly that Daniel attracted an Angelic Visitation through prayer and fasting. God responds faster when we add fasting to our prayers. Fasting can be said to be a sacrifice that attracts God’s divine presence.

Finally we are also able to provoke God for a speedy intervention through exercising violent Faith. In 1 Kings 18:4 says: “And Elijah said unto Ahab, Get thee up, eat and drink; for there is a sound of abundance of rain”.

Here prophet Elijah exercised a violent kind of faith; he told Ahab that there is going to be rain in abundance when there was no sign of rainfall.

A man of faith sees beyond the ordinary; he sees with the eye of the supernatural; he sees possibilities in the midst of impossibility.

Today, in this challenging season, what do you see?

2018, the year of new beginnings.

This year has truly lived up to our church's annual declaration of #thereismore.

Here are a few things we are truly grateful for in 2018.

Our US trip. As a child growing up on the baseball field, I dreamt of going to the Yankee stadium. Through God's favour, we were able to book an unplanned holiday to NYC in April 2018. We decided, and within a month we were on a plane to NYC. We got to see the Yankees play and done many of the sight seeing things, but more significantly was a faith purchase at a random Yankee store on times Square that would unlock the next season in our lives. A pair of NY baby growers was purchased in faith. We said this would be our final holiday by ourselves... and indeed it was:-)

Yes, not long after our return from our US trip, we found out that we were expecting our first baby. After 4,5 years of waiting, God answered our prayers. A true miracle happened. To top that, baby's announcement was supplemented with additional income and provision as if God was saying "this baby will be blessed in abundance". And when God gives, He gives in abundance!

Not long after baby, I received the news that I was successful in my application for a new job at adidas. This came with added perks like medical aid for the whole family and other cool opportunities. The past 4 months has been mind blowing!

Then, a side project that we were working on for the past year also came to life. We launched our app, Digiswipe, on the 26 Nov 2018. Digiswipe is an app that stores all your traditional cards into a single place. Our vision is to rid the environment of plastic cards and enable a platform that allows shoppers to share their points with the less fortunate. Our heart is to uplift the less fortunate.

Similarly, Erin also started a great initiative at work called 'Opportunity'. A marketplace for stretch assignments at Old Mutual. This was supported by the executive board and we excited to see how this app will unlock more opportunities in 2019.

We have been supporting an orphanage called Paradesi Place of Safety for the past 4 years and the past year we were very fortunate to partner with Dischem and Kfm. They selected Paradesi as their 'random act of kindness' and this saw upgrades and blessings to the value R100k stream in. In addition, Erin was nominated for a CEO award at Old Mutual which saw an additional R10k pour into Paradesi. These blessings ultimately meant that the aftercare and creche grew stronger and offers major corporates an opportunity to sow into fertile ground. Currently Paradesi serves 8 vulnerable kids, and another 45 kids through the creche programme.

After moving to Fish Hoek, travel was always a concern as both Erin and I still drove our very 1st cars. We both have our cars for 11 years and as much as we love them, they started becoming 'old'. fortunately, we were by the means to buy a new car - any of our friends would tell you that we were way past our sell by date.

It's been a great journey and we declare that there is more that God wants to bestow upon us.

Our journey also saw us making new friends and overcoming some health scares but this is testament to a blessed life.

Three lessons I wish to share...

1. There will always be challenges, don't focus on how big they are, instead focus on how great our God is.

2. Dreams can come true, and when they do, it will exceed all your expectations.

3. Your faith is the soil in which your blessing will grow from, and your blessing will bear the fruit of His majesty.

the Book of Life

is inscribed with the names of those who “believe...” in the True illumination of the Son.

John writes of this near the closing of the book of Revelation with the reading of Today’s chapter that reaches a point of victory over the past (tense) and its lying dragon:

[Binding Satan]

Then I saw a mighty angel descending from the heavenly realm, holding a heavy chain and a key—the key of the deep. He seized the dragon, that ancient serpent known as the devil and Satan, and bound him for a thousand years. The mighty angel threw him into the pit, locked it, and sealed it so that he could no longer deceive the nations until the thousand years were over. (After that he must be loosed for a brief time.)

Then I saw thrones, and those who sat on them were given the authority to judge. I also saw the souls of those who had been beheaded because of the testimony of Jesus and for the Word of God. They had refused to worship the wild beast or its image and did not have their foreheads or hands marked by the wild beast. They lived and reigned with the Christ for one thousand years. This is the first resurrection. (The rest of the dead did not come to life until the thousand years were ended.) Wonderfully blessed and holy are those who share in the first resurrection! The second death holds no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of the Christ. And they will reign as kings with him a thousand years!

[The Final Destruction of Satan]

After the thousand years are over, Satan will be let loose from his prison and will go out and deceive the nations of the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog. He will bring them together for battle, and they will be as numerous as grains of sand on the seashore.

They spread out over the earth and surrounded the camp of God’s holy believers and the beloved city. But fire came down from heaven and completely destroyed them. Then the devil who had deceived them was thrown into the same place with the wild beast and the false prophet—the lake of fire and sulfur—where they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.

[Judgment Day]

Then I saw a great, dazzling-white throne and the One who sits on it. Heaven and earth fled from his presence and they were no more. I saw the dead, the lowly and the famous alike, standing before the throne. Books were opened, and then another book was opened: the Book of Life. The dead were judged by what they had done as recorded in the books. And the sea gave up the dead souls that were in it. Then death and the underworld gave up their dead, and all were judged according to what they had done. Then death and the realm of the dead were cast into the lake of fire, for the lake of fire is the second death. And anyone whose name was not recorded in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.

The Book of Revelation, Chapter 20 (The Passion Translation)

Today’s paired chapter of the Testaments is the 31st chapter of 2nd Chronicles that documents an ancient cleansing of idolatry in Israel and the establishment of worship of the True God our Creator through the leading of King Hezekiah. for God has purposed to reveal Himself to the world through the Jews which culminated in the Revelation of the Son who opened a new covenant of grace for all.

[Chapter 31]

After the Passover celebration, they all took off for the cities of Judah and smashed the phallic stone monuments, chopped down the sacred Asherah groves, and demolished the neighborhood sex-and-religion shrines and local god shops. They didn’t stop until they had been all through Judah, Benjamin, Ephraim, and Manasseh. Then they all went back home and resumed their everyday lives.

Hezekiah organized the groups of priests and Levites for their respective tasks, handing out job descriptions for conducting the services of worship: making the various offerings, and making sure that thanks and praise took place wherever and whenever God was worshiped.

He also designated his personal contribution for the Whole-Burnt-Offerings for the morning and evening worship, for Sabbaths, for New Moon festivals, and for the special worship days set down in The Revelation of God.

In addition, he asked the people who lived in Jerusalem to be responsible for providing for the priests and Levites so they, without distraction or concern, could give themselves totally to The Revelation of God.

As soon as Hezekiah’s orders had gone out, the Israelites responded generously: firstfruits of the grain harvest, new wine, oil, honey—everything they grew. They didn’t hold back, turning over a tithe of everything. They also brought in a tithe of their cattle, sheep, and anything else they owned that had been dedicated to God. Everything was sorted and piled in mounds. They started doing this in the third month and didn’t finish until the seventh month.

When Hezekiah and his leaders came and saw the extent of the mounds of gifts, they praised God and commended God’s people Israel. Hezekiah then consulted the priests and Levites on how to handle the abundance of offerings.

Azariah, chief priest of the family of Zadok, answered, “From the moment of this huge outpouring of gifts to The Temple of God, there has been plenty to eat for everyone with food left over. God has blessed his people—just look at the evidence!”

Hezekiah then ordered storerooms to be prepared in The Temple of God. When they were ready, they brought in all the offerings of tithes and sacred gifts. They put Conaniah the Levite in charge with his brother Shimei as assistant. Jehiel, Azaziah, Nahath, Asahel, Jerimoth, Jozabad, Eliel, Ismakiah, Mahath, and Benaiah were project managers under the direction of Conaniah and Shimei, carrying out the orders of King Hezekiah and Azariah the chief priest of The Temple of God. Kore son of Imnah the Levite, security guard of the East Gate, was in charge of the Freewill-Offerings of God and responsible for distributing the offerings and sacred gifts. Faithful support out in the priestly cities was provided by Eden, Miniamin, Jeshua, Shemaiah, Amariah, and Shecaniah. They were even-handed in their distributions to their coworkers (all males thirty years and older) in each of their respective divisions as they entered The Temple of God each day to do their assigned work (their work was all organized by divisions). The divisions comprised officially registered priests by family and Levites twenty years and older by job description. The official family tree included everyone in the entire congregation—their small children, wives, sons, and daughters. The passionate dedication they showed in bringing themselves and their gifts to worship was total—no one was left out.

The Aaronites, the priests who lived out on the pastures that belonged to the priest-cities, had reputable men on hand to distribute regular rations to every priest—everyone listed in the official family tree of the Levites.

Hezekiah carried out this work and kept it up everywhere in Judah. He was the very best—good, right, and true before his God. Everything he took up, whether it had to do with worship in God’s Temple or the carrying out of God’s Law and Commandments, he did well in a spirit of prayerful worship. He was a great success.

Rejection at Home

“But Jesus, said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house.” (Mark 6:4)

A town will give great honor to a “hometown boy” if he makes good in athletics or the entertainment world. But if he becomes known as an influential Christian, the hometown folks usually are embarrassed about it.

Jesus Himself experienced this. He grew up in Nazareth, and it was there that He had “increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man” (Luke 2:52). When He returned to Nazareth, however, after the early days of His ministry, “as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read” (Luke 4:16). He was already recognized there as proficient in the Scriptures, and they had heard tales about His miracles, so the invitation to speak was natural, but there were certain mumbles. “Is not this the carpenter’s son?” they asked. “Whence then hath this man all these things?” (Matthew 13:55-56).

At first, “all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth” (Luke 4:22). But then, as He applied a key prophecy to Himself and rebuked them for their unbelief, they “were filled with wrath” and tried unsuccessfully to slay Him (Luke 4:28-29). “Neither did his brethren believe in him” (John 7:5), and only His mother was with Him when He was crucified (John 19:25). As David had written prophetically, “I am become a stranger unto my brethren.... For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up” (Psalm 69:8-9).

Perhaps those Christians who have been rejected by their family and former friends can identify with Jesus when He said: “For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother” (Mark 3:35). We still have a family—an eternal one! HMM

Meditation: How does God reveal his favor to us? In the psalms we pray, "Lord, show me a sign of your favor" (Psalm 86:17). In the Old Testament God performed many signs and miracles to demonstrate his love and mercy for his people, such as their deliverance from slavery in Egypt and the miraculous crossing of the Red sea on dry land (Psalm 78:43-53). When Ahaz, king of Judah and heir to the throne of David (735 B.C.) was surrounded by forces that threatened to destroy him and his people, God offered him a sign to reassure him that God would not abandon the promise he made to David and his descendants. King Ahaz, however, had lost hope in God and refused to ask for a sign of favor. God, nonetheless, gave a sign to assure his people that he would indeed give them a Savior who would rule with peace and righteousness (Isaiah 7:11ff).

God's unfolding plan of redemption

We see the fulfillment of Isaiah's prophecy and the unfolding of God's plan of redemption in the events leading up to the Incarnation, the birth of the Messiah King. The new era of salvation begins with the miraculous conception of Jesus in the womb of Mary. This child to be born is conceived by the gracious action of the Holy Spirit upon Mary, who finds favor with God (Luke 1:28). As Eve was the mother of all humanity doomed to sin, now Mary becomes the mother of the new Adam who will father a new humanity by his grace (Romans 5:12-21). This child to be conceived in her womb is the fulfillment of all God's promises. He will be "great" and "Son of the Most High" and "King" and his name shall be called "Jesus" (Luke 1:31-32), which means "the Lord saves." "He will save his people from their sins" (Matthew 1:21). The angel repeats to Mary, the daughter of the house of David, the promise made to King David: "The Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob for ever; and of his kingdom there will be no end" (2 Samuel 7:12-16, Isaiah 9:6-7, Luke 1:32-33).

How does Mary respond to the word of God delivered by the angel Gabriel? She knows she is hearing something beyond human capability. It will surely take a miracle which surpasses all that God has done previously. Her question, "how shall this be, since I have no husband" is not prompted by doubt or skepticism, but by wonderment! She is a true hearer of the Word and she immediately responds with faith and trust. Mary's prompt response of "yes" to the divine message is a model of faith for all believers.

Mary believed God's promises even when they seemed impossible. She was full of grace because she trusted that what God said was true and would be fulfilled. She was willing and eager to do God's will, even if it seemed difficult or costly. Mary is the "mother of God" because God becomes incarnate when he takes on flesh in her womb. When we pray the ancient creed (Nicene Creed) we state our confession of faith in this great mystery: "For us men and for our salvation he came down from heaven; by the power of the Holy Spirit, he became incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and was made man."

Trust and yield to God's grace

God gives us grace and he expects us to respond with the same willingness, obedience, and heartfelt trust as Mary did. When God commands he also gives the help, strength, and means to respond. We can either yield to his grace or resist and go our own way. Do you believe in God's promises and do you yield to his grace?

"Heavenly Father, you offer us abundant grace, mercy, and forgiveness through your Son, Our Lord Jesus Christ. Help me to live a grace-filled life as Mary did by believing in your promises and by giving you my unqualified 'yes' to your will and plan for my life."

"Ask for a sign from the Lord, your God." Isaiah 7:11

Throughout this Lenten season, the Lord promises abundant, resurrected, eternal life. Do we believe Him? Will we let the Holy Spirit of Easter and Pentecost come upon us? (Lk 1:35) Will we let the power of the Most High overshadow us? (Lk 1:35) Will we say with Mary, "I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be done to me as you say"? (Lk 1:38)

We need a sign to strengthen our faith. Gabriel announced the sign to Mary that Elizabeth in her old age had conceived a son (Lk 1:36). "The Lord spoke to Ahaz: ask for a sign from the Lord, your God; let it be as deep as the nether world, or as high as the sky! But Ahaz answered, "I will not ask!' " (Is 7:10-12) May we not be closed as Ahaz but be open to the sign of signs. "The Lord Himself will give you this sign: the virgin shall be with Child, and bear a Son, and He shall be called Immanuel" (Is 7:14).

May the Annunciation be a Lenten sign that Easter and Pentecost are not merely holidays but realities. When God became man and was conceived in the womb of Mary, it was and is a sign that God loves us infinitely, we have nothing to fear, the future is glorious, and nothing can separate us from the love of Christ (Rm 8:35).

Prayer: Jesus, thank You for becoming a man. Mary, pray for me to say "yes" as you did. Promise: "By this 'will,' we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all." —Heb 10:10 Praise: Mary's role in salvation history is prefigured in the Hebrew Scriptures.
