Others I adore in no particular order: Tale of the Nine Tailed, True Beauty (this webtoon is actually what got me into all things Korean), A Good Day to be a Dog, Doom At Your Service, Remarriage & Desires, Love Alarm, My Holo Love, Forecasting Love and Weather, Squid Game (it took me two years to finally watch this one due to the hype), Love Between Fairy and Devil, Cafe Minamdang, My Name (was almost #5 but I thought I'd give you a less twisty one that I truly love), The Good Bad Mother, Nevertheless (cliche af to recommend but that way this is filmed is just sooo good), Flower of Evil, Vincenzo, My Demon, Bloodhounds, Meteor Garden (the new one, it was the first drama I ever watched), Kiseki: Dear to Me, Love in the Air, KinnPorsche.

My Holo Love - 7/10

This was cute. Idk if it was especially GOOD, but it was cute. The premise felt fairly unique while still having some classic K-drama tropes. I think the execution wasn't always perfect but there was at least an attempt to explore some interesting themes and do some good character work regarding being open to people and vulnerability.

You've got to suspend a bit of disbelief in terms of the technology, but like... just go with it. Don't question it or think too hard, lol. Secretive genius computer programmer, Nando, has developed a holographic AI (called Holo- whose entire appearance is based on Nando's) that the user can view and interact with via a fancy pair of glasses. When a competitor company tries to steal the Holo glasses, Nando's sister ditches them in a stranger's purse to hide them. This stranger is Soyeon, a woman with face blindness. You can see how a holographic AI can be helpful to a woman with that condition. Soyeon becomes increasingly reliant on Holo and Nando monitors their growing relationship while also hiding his identity from Soyeon.

As you can surmise, the show explores if an AI can experience emotions and whether a human can love an AI. Luckily the show doesn't spend TOO much time on that because really it kinda becomes obvious that Soyeon finds herself following in love with Holo because she's isolated herself from others due to her face blindness and Holo has helped her open up to people. And, lol of course, it's WAY less low stakes and emotionally vulnerable to love an AI vs to love a flawed human being. So you know... relatable, lol. But it's obvious to the viewer that Soyeon's really just projecting her growing feelings for Nando onto the AI he made and modeled on himself. So there's that aspect of AI that the show deals with, but it also takes a stab at addressing the dangers of wearable tech in terms of like a surveillance state and society not engaging with each other. I think the show is a less successful on that front but they tried at least!

Other than the AI stuff there's also the standard K-drama fare of Evil Conglomerates, a Secret Tragic Past, and Hidden Childhood Connections. It's all pretty well done and overall the show was enjoyable even if it wasn't super spectacular. If the premise seems even a little bit interesting to you, it's worth watching.

Finished My Holo Love today, it was cute. I watched because it’s dubbed and my mom wanted a new kdrama to watch lol. I got her to watch Hometown Cha Cha Cha over the summer & she wants more to watch, but she doesn’t wanna read 😩. She picked a random one & started watching The King’s Affection, which I haven’t seen lol.

I can’t get my sister into kdramas for anything though. I’ve been trying for months.

But back to My Holo Love, I didn’t realize it was only 12 episodes so I was surprised when Netflix said 2 episodes left lol. It was interesting & didn’t drag, the couple didn’t get together till pretty much the end though. Which is ok I guess because at least they didn’t break up? Idk which I like better, get together early & break before the end or get together later.

I didn't expect to love this drama so much , I'm generally a thriller or horror series gal. But I loved it soooo much , I was expecting it to be like those crappy robot rom-coms I read in my 8th grade .....but it's totally different. I like the female lead a lot ...and I mean a LOT. She's flawed , not perfect but that's human . I sometimes really wanted to strangle ML at first few episodes, but he grew on me with his little acts of kindness and soft interior. And don't get me started on my precious baby Holo, he's the gift from heaven to mankind, I straight up cried when he cried upon seeing the FL and ML together because he was in pain , cause he loved her too. I liked the side character too . Especially Ml's Sister , she's so cool .

Oh a kdrama recommendation though:

It won't disappoint you, it's fabulous and my top tier favs.

I am so so so sorry but yes he qualifies. Depending on your interpretation of the lore he is either a serial killer's consciousness possessing a machine or a generative AI trained on his history. His ass is full of murder and hate and goofiness. He makes people chop their own faces off for kicks. In the game's normal ending he kills a kid and then prances around happily to the tune being played by the robot containing that child's lifeless corpse. In all the other endings he possesses your body and traps you in the machine instead.

He's kind of a meme and a gimmick but he could have been somewhat cool. The first step for the franchise deviating from ghosts to AI type direction, and his movements are really fluid and creepy

Short review of My Holo Love by Netflix: #k-drama #scifi #artificial inteligence #love triangle

I'm not into k-dramas because they are very local, but, this case was more cosmopolite and I watched all of it. This is the story of an artificial assistance that gets into the life of a young woman by accident and how their relantionship evolves when the ai creator enters the stage.

I think that the series explores several dilemmas related with artificial intelligent as privacy, rights, synthetic feelings, cyber-security, industrial espionage, etc etc.
