Mcl and how aesthetical only poc representation is harmful

Before you all lit your torches and bring out your pitchforks, just read what I have to say and THEN you can come after me alright?

But before, let's talk about how mcl poc representation is mostly aesthetical, color blind, and lackluster and that's a missed opportunity for writing good stories, if you gonna do representation, please, try a bit harder? Pretty please?

I want start by saying that while representation is important, if you treat your poc character as if they just fell from a coconut tree and do not exist outside of their character archetypes, you are doing a disservice to your characters, your narrative and the people in the real world, players, who could recognize themselves in these minorities, BUT DON'T. And Why is that?

Color blindness. You treat your poc characters as white characters, you just like how they look like, you don't really care if they represent experiences or other cultures.

That's why when, let's say, a white female art student decides to falsely accuse her poc teacher and ruin his life, and you backtrack because you didn't like how you wrote him as the victim despite him being the victim of the situation, you just throw a half-ass everybody can forgive anything excuse and "she will have to live with what she has done, no repercussions beyond that" type of thing.

Throwing the name of the MeToo movement willy-nilly doesn't change the fact that you wrote it from a color-blind perspective ~

Self-awareness didn't went far enough ~

"But, talking about racism isn't romantic! It's not fun! Our game needs to be apolitical! None of that woke shit here!"

Brother in christ, what are you talking about?

The moment you cooked up poc characters, you stopped being apolitical, the moment you put lgbt characters on your game, you're being political, I will go even further: the moment you write self-sufficient female characters, you're BEING POLITICAL.

And yes, representation is not immediately = talk about racism. But you wrote the white student, you wrote her obsession, you wrote the consequences that it brought, you just missed the part when your characters are not ALL WHITE. You missed how MeToo has changed, that feminism is not just believing in the victims of sexual harassment no matter what. Feminism is about equality, it's about seeing how a minority is treated in the world and striving for EQUALITY. Feminism is not girlboss shit. I am sorry. Actually not sorry. Go read about feminism too.

I understand that not everybody feels capable of writing a history about a poc male teacher being harassed by a white female student, but I will tell you, if you have been living in a liberal hole, haven't at all pay attention to Black Lives Matter or you live your life with color blindness, then yeah, you will not be capable of writing it anyway. Write something else. Or, even better, take a day, maybe a week, and listen to the struggles of the minorities you're trying to represent, listen to podcasts, and activists, and tune yourself into the voices of the real people that you're trying to represent.

It's not that hard when we live in the age of YouTube essays, man.

Now, why I am bringing this back?

Because MCL new era (or whatever is the name of the new game) will have poc characters as well, and, oh, boy, oh, boy, I am not the only one worried about how the writing is gonna go.

All I ask of them is go watch some videos, learn how to be more inclusive and educate yourselves, IF you want a diverse cast in your game.

Your characters didn't fall from a coconut tree and they exist in the context of society, history, cultural norms and constructs, in the context of which they "live" and from what came before them, if you don't represent that, they will FEEL like a white character because white people already is the default reality, they don't really need context or background because there's no such thing as "white culture". That's why you can get away without addressing them a "culture".

And there's no such thing as being too woke or too political, we all as human beings live in a heavily political online environment, even when we choose to "not be political" we're choosing to be political: that's just neo-liberalism for you. Ignoring that fact doesn't change the perception of others, doesn't erase that you choose, for better and for worst, to be political anyway.

If your character isn't white, own it.

Don't pretend they have no cultural background just to make them more palatable to "a bigger audience", no, the moment you trop that they're korean, arabic or indian, there's gonna be people that will have prejudice, making them non-cultural in top of that doesn't change how they look like or the origins of their names.

Don't commit to a diverse cast and then erase all that diversity. Strive to create relatable characters, with relatable stories and relatable backgrounds, so your game doesn't just LOOK rich of diversity, but also FEELS full of diversity.

Em 2018/19 acho, eu criei uma conta no Amor Doce, joguei durante uma semana e por motivos de meu celular ser uma rocha pré-histórica não pude manter o jogo e o deletei. Em 2020, criei uma conta em Eldarya e perdi ela, criei outra... perdi de novo, e então criei a que tenho até hoje. A questão é: por ser uma jogadora pobre não pude/posso fazer compras nos jogos o que me custou MUITO do meu tempo para acumular maanas suficientes para terminar a 1 temporada de Eldarya, (infelizmente não pretendo jogar a 2 pois me senti desanimada com muito do que ouvi e li sobre) mas não me arrependo foram sangue suor e lágrimas bem gastas.

Enfim, com a finalização do jogo e o "fim" dos eventos, eu percebi que não consigo mais tantos maanas quanto antes. Se fosse para a Allie de hoje começar a jogar ela iria recuar, dobrar e passar pro próximo. E é sobre isso que gostaria de perguntar.

Queria saber como funciona o sistema de PAs no Amor Doce e se valeria a pena uma jogadora começar hoje sabe. Eu iria recomeçar em uma nova conta pois nem sei se a que eu tinha ainda está viva.

Espero que alguém me responda pois comecei Amor Doce New Gen e até que tô gostando... se puderem me deixar um resumo da experiência de vocês no jogo também seria ótimo, porque posso acabar não gostando da história também, sempre tem esse risco sabe.

Eldarya foi um jogo que gostei muito porque, principalmente, é do gênero fantasia pelo qual sou EXTREMAMENTE apaixonada então ganhou pontos comigo desde daí.

Hi everyone, I'm so excited to be able to post this, for all the time and effort it took, but it's finally here.

What is Project Eldarya? In simple words it is an interactive fan-fic rewrite of “Eldarya : A New Era”

DISCLAMER : this fan-fic is based on the Eldarya game, so all its characters, music, scenery and general elements belong to Beemoov and Chinomiko.

This project is completely FREE, as well as all the episodes that will be uploaded [EVERY EPISODE WILL BE UPLOADED IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH]

"Dos semanas. Han pasado dos semanas desde que salí del cristal pero desearía seguir ahí.

A pesar de pasar todos los días en mi habitación sin hacer nada siento mi cuerpo fatigado y sin nada de energía, como si algo hubiera extraído toda la vitalidad de mi cuerpo. Sin embargo, el cansancio no es nada comparado con el dolor punzante que siento en el corazón cada que respiro.

Cuando decidí unirme al cristal junto a Leiftan acepté que dejaría a todos atrás pero no me importo, estaba dispuesta a todo para proteger este nuevo mundo y a las personas que conocí en él, creí estar haciendo lo correcto y no me arrepentí ni por un instante.  Ahora que estoy de nuevo aquí puedo verlo con mis propios ojos, todas esas personas que salve con mi sacrificio, personas que me veneran como si de una diosa me tratara... Debería sentirme feliz de saber que lo que hice no fue en vano, más por el contrario no puedo evitar darme cuenta de cuanto ha cambiado todo en mi ausencia.

Lo único que puedo hacer es observar como todos los demás continúan con sus vidas mientras que yo repito en bucle los últimos momentos que pase antes de entrar al cristal. La batalla con Lance, la muerte de Valkyon... y Ezarel.

El deseo de Ezarel era abandonar el cuartel general, dejar todo atrás para comenzar una nueva vida y yo estaba lista para seguirlo. Su sueño se convirtió en el mío. No importaba con que obstáculo pudiéramos encontrarnos, mientras él estuviera a mi lado estaba segura de que podríamos superar lo que sea tal como lo hicimos antes.

Ese sueño, esa promesa... no la cumplí.

Sacrifique nuestra felicidad por un bien mayor, puse a otros por encima de mí y ahora solo me queda imaginar lo que hubiera sido, añorar un futuro al que renuncie.

Al despertar sabía que hace tiempo se había ido, aun así dentro de mi mantenía la esperanza volver a verlo, a él y a esa maldita sonrisa burlona que tanto echaba de menos. Que ironía que la broma que una vez me jugo se volviera realidad, yo despertando después de años, pero con la diferencia de que esta vez él no estaba aquí.

Para mi tranquilidad Eweleïn me dijo que él estaba bien y que se comunicaba ocasionalmente, sin embargo también dijo que al irse no se fue solo, sino que se marchó junto a Twilda y ... Marie Anne.

Ese monstruo cuyo nombre no puedo escuchar sin recordar al pobre Mery que perdió la vida en sus manos. El hecho de que ella se encontrara vagando libre por ahí hacia que me arrepintiera del momento en que deje que Ezarel me detuviera de matarla. Nunca  estuve de acuerdo con mantenerla con vida, pero lo que más me pesaba era que toda la culpa de las muertes que causo, de las atrocidades que hizo, no eran cargadas por ella sino por Ezarel. Sin embargo eso ya no importaba ahora, no sé qué habrá visto en ella para decidir que era buena idea llevársela consigo junto a la madre del niño que asesino, pero el simple hecho de saber que Ezarel se encontraba haya afuera y que había logrado seguir con su vida fue suficiente para mí.

Mi único deseo era que jamás experimentara el dolor que yo estaba sintiendo, aquel que me impedía dormir todas las noches. Ese dolor tan fuerte que me hacia desear estar de nuevo dentro del cristal y perderme en la eterna sensación de calma y paz que irradiaba, el dolor de seguir atada al pasado."
