Continuing yesterday's theme of "only one pickup"...
1966 #Fender#Musicmaster II
I guess if I had to choose the position for my only-one-pickup guitar, I would generally choose "neck". A single neck pickup guitar may not look anywhere near as *fierce* as one with a single bridge pickup, but the tone of a neck pickup is rounder and more bass-y than a pickup in the bridge position. Maybe If I was ever playing live on a big stage and needing my absolutely *blistering* lead phrasing to cut through a mix already crowded in the low to midrange sound spectrum, perhaps my preference of pickup position might possibly permutate.
But sitting here alone, ham-fistedly noodling in my living room, I need the fullest tone I can get! 😂

#Musicmaster bass pickup mods
I'm pretty sure there have been others over the years. June 1956 saw the second production run of Musicmasters and the first Duo-Sonic models, which were distinguished by an additional single-coil pickup at the. Here is my updated version, correct spaced 4. And the Rick 650 guitar and 4004 bass use the same blade-type humbuckers. As you know, the original 70s Musicmaster basses just had regular guitar pickup with 6 pole magnets install. The Rick toaster used in the neck of some basses has 6 magnet polepieces, same pickup used in some guitar models. It will sound like a bass pickup when the instrument is tuned to the bass range.īesides the Musicmaster guitar pickup in the Musicmaster bass, The coils of Rick Hi-gains for guitar and bass are wound to identical specs, with 4 or 6 steel polepieces. My Vox Wyman came with a Strat pickup in the neck position. So there may be even more of an output mismatch than with the usual P/J setup. One issue you may have with a Strat pickup is that most of them are noticeably lower in output than a P or J pickup and you would be placing it in the bridge position, where there's less string travel. Turn the screws clockwise to raise and counterclockwise to lower the pickup. Using a guitar pickup with steel polepieces with the magnet(s) beneath are more likely to have problems with dropout between the strings if used on a bass. There are two height adjustment screws, one at each end of the pickup. Just do it! A SD lipstick gave my Musicmaster a bit more treble and growl.īlade-type guitar pickups will work, and pickups with magnet polepieces (like most Strat pickups) usually work well also. The Fender Musicmaster has a Strat pickup. There has been a few mentions of gibson using guitar pickups on basses, and I wondered if anyone had anything to say about sticking a strat single coil on a bass? I was daydreaming about giving my frankentele bass a bit of snarl by putting a jazz pickup close the bridge, but it occured to me that (a) i dont have a jazz pickup and (b) i have a handful of guitar pickups lying around

#SQUIER MUSICMASTER GUITAR SERIAL NUMBER#
Earlier models are distinguishable by their small headstock logo, lack of a serial number on the headstock, and small, triangular tuning keys later models feature a much larger headstock logo, with a serial number silkscreened next to the "Fender" logo, and Mustang-style tuning keys. Later, this was expanded to include many of the finishes present on other Fender guitars. Some very early issues were Daphne Blue with pearl pickguards. I went to the guitar shop and I told 28 TITANS OF BASS. The Musicmaster Bass was introduced in 1971, and originally came in either black, red or white finish. If you are really young, get a short scale bass, like a Fender Musicmaster or a Squier. Many players modified the bodies of their Musicmaster basses to accommodate Precision-style double pickups or enhanced electronics. The bodies were leftover Fender Mustang Bass bodies, while the pickups were six-pole guitar pickups, rather than four-pole bass pickups. Like many of Fender's other budget-priced guitars, the Musicmaster Bass used many surplus parts from other Fender models. All of the Musicmaster's electronics are mounted onto a single piece of plastic. It features a short 30 in (762 mm) scale. The Fender Musicmaster Bass is a model of electric bass guitar, produced by Fender between 19.Īs with its six-string counterpart, which was a stripped-down version of the Fender Mustang, the Musicmaster Bass is a simpler version of the Mustang Bass.

Small frets (vintage-like), high gloss necks, nice maple, solid construction and at an affordable price. All the Vistas were made in Japan, and like the old Japanese re-issue Jazzmasters and Mustangs that Fender made, their quality kicked butt. Got me set up with my new string box and I couldn't be happier with it. Not only is the service and productĪwesome but I really don't think you will find a better price. I really appreciate theĬommunication and help and advice from both Bill and Andy. The double box they ship the guitars in, everything is done perfectly. I have purchased two guitars from this company and the whole experience has been first class.Farewell Sweetwater, Cream City is my new go-to.

Of my new 12 string Gretsch Country Gentleman with Cream City was a transaction beyond perfect.īrian at Cream City was extremely helpful, honest, professional and communicative - and the guitarĪrrived in perfect condition two days ahead of schedule.
Buying an expensive guitar online can be a nerve racking and treacherous process - but the purchase.
Paul Schell for helping with the whole process and making my purchase worry-free. I just received my guitar and its fantastic.
I've never purchased a guitar online before, so I was bit weary at first.
It was my first time buying a used guitar but I would definitely recommend this company. If fact I'm still haven'tīeen able to put it down. Just received my used 1997 Les Paul Studio DC. Pots date to '74 & all electronics are in good working condition. Master volume & tone controls with black knobs. Pickup: Single coil with black cover - 5.80K ohms. 3-ply white pickguard has a small chip out of it down near the input jack. Top-loading bridge with double barrel saddles. Neck dates to '74.īody: Offset, double cutaway, solid body finished in red. Neck is straight & truss rod is functioning. Unoriginal nut - 1 9/16" width 30" scale length. The neck is straight, the truss rod is fully functional, and the action has been setup low and comfortable. Playability: Our in-house guitar tech has inspected, setup, and restrung this bass with a new set of flat wound strings. Overall, this bass is in great condition and the neck is in excellent condition. There are various dents in the body here and there. There are a few small chips in the finish on the bottom edge of the body. It has wear that is consistent with the age of this bass. Pickups/Hardware: One single coil stratocatser 6-pole pickup, Fender tuning keys, all original hardware, one volume/one tone knob, thumb rest, black/white/black 3-ply pickguard.Ĭosmetics: This bass is in great shape for an instrument this age. Neck: A beautiful maple neck with a rosewood fingerboard, 19 frets, 30” scale length, 1 9/16” nut width, white pearloid dot inlays, medium “C” profile. It plays and sounds amazing.īody: Solid alder, double cutaway, original finish. This Musicmaster is actually white and has aged beautifully to a dark yellow. This was also a 30″ short-scale bass, the shortest production scale of any Fender bass. All the electronics were mounted on a single piece of plastic. The bodies were from the Mustang production line, and 6-pole guitar pickups were used instead of the standard 4-pole pickups used in basses. The Musicmaster was Fender’s budget-priced bass at the time, made from surplus parts from other Fender models. As with Fender’s guitar bearing the same name, the bass was a simpler version of Fender’s Mustang Bass. Summary: Fender’s Musicmaster was first introduced in 1971, and in production through 1981.

1957 fender musicmaster for sale
#1957 FENDER MUSICMASTER FOR SALE FULL#
"How was such an ultimately dominant product created by a newcomer to the business who seemed to have several strikes against him? Leo Fender wasn’t a serious musician, had little background (or interest) in the traditional crafts or lore of instrument building, and was even less interested in associating with the old-boy network of acquaintances who ran the major guitar companies and might have helped him get on his feet." Perhaps author Tom Wheeler put it best when, in his indispensable history The Stratocaster Chronicles, he asked: Long-held conventions of design and method meant little if anything to Leo, which likely goes a long way in explaining the genesis of an instrument as extraordinary as the Stratocaster. Work on elements such as new pickups and a new bridge was certainly well under way by late 1952.
#1957 FENDER MUSICMASTER FOR SALE FULL#
A scrappy little post-war West Coast upstart that was only seven years old and led by a taciturn self-taught electronics tinkerer, Fender had already introduced two revolutionary instruments-the Telecaster and Precision Bass guitars-plus a full line of well-regarded steel guitars and a small handful of loud, rugged and stylish amps that were the best available.įender was small in the early 1950s, but clearly going places, and it’s possible that Leo Fender turned his attention in earnest to a new electric guitar model to succeed the Telecaster and compete with more upscale competitors as early as 1951. Let’s go back to that original era and have a look at the early years of what would one day be the world’s greatest electric guitar.įender had made promising inroads into the stodgy old U.S. Indeed, for about its first 10 years or so, the Stratocaster patiently bided its time while the world caught up with it. It took quite a while, in fact, because if it’s true that the guitar was so well designed from the start that it has basically remained the same for six decades, it’s also true that it was so well designed that it was ahead of its time by at least a decade. The Stratocaster had to earn its place, and it happened neither easily nor overnight. Been that way for quite a while now.īut it wasn’t always like that. It has risen above its everyday function to become a cultural symbol for creativity, individuality, artistry and more than a little exuberant rebelliousness. Ubiquitous and essential, the Stratocaster has transcended its original intended purpose as a tool (a stylish one, at that) to become such an archetype. Maybe that’s because it was so well designed to start with that it has existed largely unchanged for 60 years now, allowing it to become an ingrained form in the minds of successive generations. We strive to earn your business. The Fender Stratocaster is the quintessential electric guitar-a worldwide archetype the basic form that leaps to mind at the very mention of the phrase electric guitar even among those who don’t play. Please know we go to great lengths to ensure with 100% confidence that you are getting the exact item you purchased in the condition and originality described. Unauthorized returns will be refused and returned at customer's expense. For logistical reasons we are unable to accept returns on any transaction involving a trade, both in store and online. It's a subtle tone shaper, not a blanket to kill the high end completely.Yet another Ebay win. So, having an amp that is useful from 0-10 for EQ is fine with me. I seldom use bright switches, don't often vary the EQ a long ways from mid-point in many amps. Perhaps I expect different things from an EQ. At least that seems to me to be what's going on? It's definitely NOT the regular small Fender style EQ, ala the tweed Princeton, which is sending highs to ground thru a traditional low pass filter. The other effect this has is that turning down the guitar volume seems to have a disproportionate effect on EQ-dropping it just a hair loses the hum and buzz from single coils, whereas leaving it up fully makes the amp almost unbearably bright unless the tone control is WAY down. In addition, the tone and volume controls should be interactive-the more signal you're sending thru the volume knob the less effect the tone control has. If I'm reading that correctly, then phase cancellation will cause highs to be lost depending on how much you send thru. It appears to be a high-pass filter that uses a voltage divider to determine the voltage going thru the 0.02 mf cap, which reverses polarity, and is then mixed with the unfiltered signal. It's not an old-fashioned tone control in the sense that it passes highs to ground thru a cap (a low pass filter with a fixed frequency and Q and variable gain) and uses a voltage divider after the cap to determine how much goes to ground. All in all this little gem is certainly worth seeking out! And in this day of $500 Champs and $600 Vibrochamps, you can still find them in the $400 range.

The MM does NOT have that problem-it's louder, sounds like a full 10W, and it's gainier. The complaint with the GA-5T has always been that it's just too anemic and clean for a 10w amp. The GA-5T doesn't have the clean resonance of the MM but I think sounds better fully cranked and pushed with an overdrive. I suspect this results in more gain loss because it's both quieter and less crunchy when cranked than the Musicmaster is (part of that might be down to the 10" vs 12" speaker I guess). The GA-5T, while the input circuit is identical, has a more traditional treble/bass tone stack. Since it's doing it without a cap in the tone circuit, I have NO idea how it works. It mostly leaves the mids alone, to the left cuts a bit of treble but emphasizes bass, to the right cuts bass and emphasizes treble, almost more like a tilt EQ than a traditional tone stack. I've heard folks love these with overdrives, but i'm going to have to experiment a bit to find the right one, just grabbing the recently acquired Rocktron ODB wasn't the right match (although it sounds really good with EL84 and with the GA-5). I initially played it with a mini-hum equipped Crestwood reissue, but trying a few other things I think it like low output pickups, particularly single coils best! The overdrive tones have a little harshness in the decay, and some fizziness on the top, although just a touch of hair sounds good and cleans up with the volume pot really well. The closest I can think of to this is what a Dumble ODS set clean will do, or perhaps the ClusterFuzz if it did clean. Sort of a mid-heavy ringing, almost like a microphonic tube but not annoying like that. Why do I mention the GA-5T? Because one version of that amp came with a dual 6AQ5 output section that was transformer coupled to the power tubes! They are pretty different sounding amps, though.Ĭlean, the Musicmaster has a sustain that's really interesting. Only amp with transformer coupled push/pull output section. To save money, there's no fuse, the power switch is built into the volume, and there's no top back panel. It's a seriously weird amp for something from Fender (I'm betting that Leo had nothing to do with this design) for the following reasons:ġ. This Musicmaster amp wasn't on the list, but we reached an agreement on price and I brought it home. I happened upon a small store with an owner that had decided to sell a few of his own things.

A pair of Dakota red '66 Musicmaster ll's! Lil Red is the short 22.75 " scale and his big brother The Red Rocket with 24" scale. For the longer one I had the '66 body, so I relic'd a newer '92 Jaguar neck to build it. Fender back in the day offered both scales and would often use Jag necks for the 24" scale ones. Lil Red is pretty much made of all original parts I put together (the opposite of what guys on ebay do, parting out complete guitars). Both these guitars are tone monsters and the lil one actually has warmer bass to it! They both have original '66 pickups and bodies....Go figure maybe it's that 50 year old neck vs the 25 year old neck?

UK The Voice star Howard Rose was robbed following a gig in Bromley, London last Thursday night.
Taking to social media Howard Rose expressed his frustration and deep self-annoyance, at having left three guitars in his van overnight only to have them stolen the next day. “My acoustic and two electric guitars were stolen from my van in Bromley by Bow. If anyone in the London area has any info about any of these please let me know.”
The guitars stolen were a Gibson J60 with a pickup across the sound hole, a Strat 96′ Japanese 60’s reissue and a Mustang.
Speaking to Musicvein of his loss Howard says “The acoustic Gibson J60 is the most important one to me by far. It was my first professional guitar that I bought about 12 years ago for an absolute bargain because the seller wanted it to be played. It was built in the early 90’s for a very limited run and ended up being worth about £4000! I have played it every day and wrote every song on it, so I am absolutely heart broken.”
No sooner had Howard posted about his misfortune, did the good community of his home town in Melton Mowbray rally round to help. One particular person, 12 year old singer/songwriter Eva Rose (a student of Howard’s) started a Crowdfunding page to gather donations.
“…help buy my local hero a new guitar,” Eva wrote. (Howard Rose) is an inspiration and helps teach and inspire many children like myself using his knowledge…he’s such a nice guy and I would love to put a smile on his face, please can you help.”
So far the page has raised £430, 17% of its £2500 target, with another £50 raised by local pub goers. Touched by the community response and the campaign being raised Howard said, “I’ve been so fortunate to have incredible friends offer me guitars to play and acoustic Amps to get me through until I can afford to replace everything.”
Other items stolen from the van were, fellow bandmate Joe’s, Fender MusicMaster bass and a Mackie 1642VLZ4 mixer.
When challenged about not being insured for the equipment, Howard explained “…unfortunately the instruments weren’t insured separately. They were covered by home contents insurance but they weren’t at home, nor was the van parked at my registered address…stupid me for leaving them in the van overnight after a gig in the first place. I am a member of the MU (Musicians Union) but the insurance that I thought was included when you become a member is something you have to sign up for separately and they only cover you for £200 per instrument.”
As any musician will understand, monetary value isn’t the most important thing about an instrument being damaged or stolen, it’s the emotional attachment to the equipment that’s irreplaceable.
“My advice to other musicians,” Howard continues “would be to unsure your most important instruments against theft and damage. I wish I did and certainly will be doing from now on.”
If you would like to donate towards the campaign, visit the JustGiving page and should you be offered guitars of the above descriptions (pictures below) or hear anything about the theft please contact your local police department.

The Mighty #Musicmaster. . Here is one I am sure my friend @tomojustfunky will appreciate. No one makes these guitars sound better than Tomo does! But even for an average (ok, "mediocre" 🤣) player such as myself, if you don't think a 3/4 size single pickup #studentguitar can sound good, I challenge you to plug a 1961 #FenderMusicmaster in a 1964 tuxedo #6G6 #Fender #Bassman and take it for a spin. I guarantee you will be pleasantly surprised! . Note: for best results don't forget to turn up the #amp a bit (note the volume setting on the #bass channel here...the basement windows were rattling, let me tell you! 😆). For most of my life, I controlled my overall volume by keeping the #guitar volume on 10 and setting the amp volume low. However, I have recently discovered that I get a better sound at low volumes by turning the amp way up and turning the volume down on the guitar. The amp just sounds better when it is being driven a bit, even if the input signal is low. One weird side effect though is an abundance of treble. So I find I have to roll off the tone control on both the amp and the guitar. Does anyone else do this? . . #guitar #guitars #guitarra #chitarra #guitarre #electricguitar #vintageguitars #fenderguitars #vintagefender #tone #guitargear #guitarsofinstagram #geartalk #guitargear #vintagegear #guitarsdaily #fendersofinstagram #guitarphotography #vintageamp (at Peterborough, Ontario) https://www.instagram.com/p/Cam2xUkrXeI/?utm_medium=tumblr

There has been a couch-side TV-watching noodle-rig change-up at Casa #DeeBeeUs™ just in time for #FenderFriday! . I hauled the massive '68 #ProReverb back downstairs and replaced it with a more "student" sized rig for noodling upon while I enjoy the newly arrived 6th series of "Inside No. 9" on Britbox. . The 1961 #Fender #Musicmaster turns 60 this year, and is a joy to play. Its 3/4 size neck fits perfectly in my stubby fingers (I can even fret bass notes with my thumb on it without too much contortion!) yet it sounds like a vintage hardtail #Stratocaster permanently switched to the neck pickup. . The 1963 6G2 #FenderPrinceton is a marvel of sonic engineering. I don't know how Fender made an amp this small sound so deep and rich, but I wish I had been smart enough to track down one of these back in my gigging days when I was dragging a red knob Twin in and out of clubs 5-7 nights a week! This one is player grade...but if I had to choose one #amp from the collection to keep it might be this one. .
