Music is magical and can influence your spirit! Much like how media can affect our mental state, music can affect our spiritual.
Am i saying "play happy music to stay happy"? NO.
Im saying music can help your spirit process what its feeling! Your need of music to describe what you are going through at any moment is magic!
If youve been wronged, play that angry music! Let your spirit rage and headbang alongside whatever it is your playing to properly vent!
Play that sad playlist because youre distraught about your favorite character being removed from the show!
Play that mushy romance list because you feel giddy from your date!
Turn up the radio and listen because your spirit wants to dance.
Let it.
Your spirit needs music just as much as you do.

Song of the Six Realms review
Tumblr media
4/5 stars Recommended if you like: fantasy, quests, music magic
I particularly enjoyed the first part of this book and getting to know the House of Flowing Water. I thought all the information about the musicians, dancers, and artists was interesting, and I liked learning about the way the patronage and apprentice levels worked. I also liked the camaraderie between the girls, even if some of it turned out to be false.
Once Xue leaves the House and begins traveling with Janglang there's fewer people and less worldbuilding for a while. Like Xue, I also began to get frustrated with the lack of answers and how she was consistently left alone with nothing but her qin. There was little action for a while there in the middle so while the descriptions were nice, I did feel my attention drifting somewhat.
I did enjoy the parts about music and the musical magic Xue uses to try and solve the mystery. The poetry wasn't my favorite, but the descriptions of the songs themselves were interesting and I liked the way Xue thought about and described the musical pieces. The music was definitely interesting and I wish it and the way certain songs could 'unlock' things was more of a focus of the story. Sure, it played a big part, but I definitely wanted more music magic.
Xue is left in the dark about a lot of things and so she tends to just float along trying to learn the Meng Manor and fill her days to prevent boredom. She's obviously destabilized by the change from apprentice in the House of Flowing Water to a guest at an esteemed lord's manor, and especially a Celestial's manor. Xue really shows her mettle and personality in the beginning of the story and at the end. Her strength comes through in different ways and I appreciated getting to see the different sides of her, from her love of beauty to her protective streak. I did wish there was more plot in the middle to continue showing those sides of her though.
The other characters kind of come in and out of the story at different times, so I don't totally feel like I got to know any of them very well. Janglang is supposed to be the love interest, but aside from some mild attraction, I'm not really convinced the two are in love. Xue spends half the book thinking he's grieving a fiancé for god's sake! I did like the addition of Chenwen and and Linwei, but would've liked it more if they'd been around more. I enjoyed Chenwen's humor and the way he teased Xue, which I feel like she reacted disproportionately to.
For a book focused on figuring out what Xue's uncle and Janglang's shifu had discovered, the two actually do very little investigating and there's often little adventure to be had. As other reviewers mention, different things keep coming up as oh-so-important plot points and then end up being minor aspects of the story. Xue getting presented to the Sky Emperor (King?) and Consort but then it goes over quickly and well, and there doesn't seem to be much of a lasting effect from her performance. Likewise, there's this whole thing with Janglang's mother....but in the end she's diabolical and evil but not particularly menacing.
I also found the 'mystery' to be a bit obvious. I clued in to the 'who' as soon as they're introduced and I also clued into the red herring as soon as it came into the story as well. Unfortunately, it takes Janglang and Xue almost the entire rest of the story to figure it out, leaving me smacking my head when they trust certain people or fall into certain traps.
Overall, this is a good neutral read if you're looking for something light to occupy your time. It's entertaining enough and I find myself feeling pretty neutral on the matter. I did like it, but the beginning and ending were the most interesting to me, and things in the middle kind of lagged.

Ocarina Song Correspondences
Tumblr media
As I further develop my own Hylian Faith that I practice in a way that emulates Link, I find the ocarina to also be an important spiritual tool as the Ocarina of Time was an important tool in the Hero of Time’s arsenal, as well as the key to open the door to the sacred realm. Of course other instruments may also be used, considering how important a lyre harp has been in the series as well.
Most of my practice is energy cultivation, meditation, and prayer, but I’m also slowly working on my own magical system utilizing various tools for spells, such as talismans and music magic. Due to this, I have devised a basic correspondence list for many songs from The Legend of Zelda. Please bear in mind: I am super new to this so my correspondences will be fairly limited. Also please remmber that your path is your own and you may make your own correspondences. Intention and sincerity are the most important elements. Some of these correspondences are related to specific deities, sages, races, and even characters since people will have very individual practices and I want to hopefully provide inspiration for one’s own faith.

My Trolls AU
It's time for another installment in our world-building series! I don't think this counts as a spoiler, so there's no need to worry about cutting any of it.
The Trolls are creatures of magic, and their bodies are composed of magic. Most of the magic they use is Chaotokinesis, which involves manipulating their hair to do things like change colors, grow, and access a "hammerspace" pocket dimension. The Trolls also use music to access a universal magic that can change reality. Music is all about connection, and it can be used to communicate with willing participants much more than just words. It can also be used to bring a group together to work on a single goal, like building a big structure. It can also control plants and animals to the tune of the musician. This connection to magic is one of the reasons why Bergens "feels true happiness and joy" after eating a magical/musical troll.

Playing Eye-Spy with Spirit
The Universe loves to work with you. Sometimes, it will wait for you to call upon it before sending you the messages and gifts that you're waiting for.
Here are some ideas to request to reinforce your rapport with Source energy, or maybe just play a game with it ᯓ★
Tumblr media
⭑ Animal Messengers: ask for the presence of rabbits &/or deer in & around your life. Each animal delivering its own symbolic message from the universe.
⭑ Rainbow Sightings: request rainbows, whether it follows rain or is a result of prisms or soap bubbles.
⭑ Butterfly Encounters: ask for playful encounters with butterflies that feel like magic, letting their presence remind you of transformation.
⭑ Shooting Stars: prepare for a shooting star, as an invitation to continue wishing and a reminder to dream big.
⭑ Music Magic: ask that a specific song play on the radio, in a store or during shuffle when unexpected
⭑ Shape of the Heart: tell the universe that you will keep an eye out for natural heart-shapes in the wild as a love-letter from the cosmos.

LoZ - Music Magic & Magical Instruments
Those talented in or trained in the art of music magic or acoustimagy don't, strictly speaking, need magical instruments in order to perform spell songs, but it certainly does make them more effective. Pairing the 2 together, in fact, creates a form of magical harmonic synergy that let's the music resonate.
Only those without specific training or talent in music magic require such.
This is why the goddess required a magical harp & why kid Link could simply use the Fairy Ocarina. The reason being that I hc the Links' first incarnation to have been both highly talented in music magic as well as extremely skilled & learned in it. Music magic being one of the types that ties directly to the soul & resonates with it in a way different & more intimate than how others do being a mix of soul magic & sound magic. This results in the Links often being somewhat August Rush-adjacent.
Though, at the same time, certain songs do require certain instruments whether it be a specific type of instrument or a holy instrument.
Of course, one's level of skill & talent with music magic also has an effect on the effectiveness of the spell song played.
Also, certain instruments have specific spell songs tied to them like the Wind Ocarina from Minish Cap.

⚘☽☽☽ 𝕄𝕦𝕤𝕚𝕔 𝕄𝕒𝕘𝕚𝕔 𝕡𝕒𝕣𝕥 𝟛 ☾☾☾⚘
⚘☽ Divination ☾⚘
One of the things that you can do with music is divination. The most commonly known form involving music is known as shufflemancy. Shufflemancy in this context is divination by use of songs, melodies, etc., in the form of a playlist. It is not a widely used form of divination, and it is also not an ancient form either, as it uses technology. So how do you do shufflemancy? Well first, you will need a playlist - keep in mind that you control this playlist, it is yours and you control what goes in and out of it. Once you get your playlist, you will want to choose a question (best to stay away from yes/no questions). Then you will want to pick a number. This can be a number between 1 and 10, 1 and 100, really any number between 1 and x number. For this scenario let's go with the number 6. Keeping in mind the question you want answered, you shuffle the number of times you picked, in this case I chose 6, so I would shuffle the playlist 6 times. Whatever song it lands on in the last shuffle will be the song that you will need to interpret for your question. Keep in mind that you will most likely want to listen to the entire song for the answer to your question - the title of the song might not be the whole message. Sometimes it’s not the entire song, but certain parts of the lyrics, like the main chorus of a song. It’s not just the song that needs to be interpreted, but also the feelings that the song invokes as well - if it makes you happy, upset, frustrated, etc.
⚘☽ Cleansing & Banishing ☾⚘
Music can be used to cleanse and banish anything unwanted from your space. This can be done in a number of ways, keeping in mind that banishing is a more aggressive side of cleansing. For either one you can use just about any music you wish, the goal is to annoy the unwanted so much it drives them nuts and out of your house. For example, playing a 10 hour long youtube video of baby shark at top volume with your phone hooked to some speakers, or better yet your tv if you're able. You want to play something that the entity won’t like, so if the entity happens to like baby sharks then I guess you’ll want to consider something else. Another thing to maybe try here is bells. Bells are an amazing way of banishing an entity, whether you are just ringing the bell back and forth with no rhyme or reason, or you are playing a song on the bells. No matter the method you use, you want to make it as loud and as obnoxious as possible.
⚘☽ Meditation ☾⚘
Meditation helps with the lowering of blood pressure, heart rate, etc. In order to peacefully meditate, you have to be able to lower your blood pressure and heart rate, and even out your breathing, along with easing your muscles. Music has been proven in studies to help with this! Well, what kind of music is best for mediation? It really depends on the person, but usually you would want something on the calmer side - maybe something instrumental, or with a slower tune in the background to help calm the mind. Keep in mind that your idea of what music is calming is NOT going to be the same as another person's idea of what is calming music. A side note here: When you type in youtube for relaxation music, most of those videos claiming to help sleep, and relax, and meditate are a load of crap - but not all of them are, and there are some really good ones out there! You have to find what is right for you.
⚘☽ Offerings ☾⚘
Music can be used as an offering to Gods or other beings. You can make the music yourself, or pick a song that you feel fits the situation. There are a few popular examples of music as offerings. Priests in Catholic churches often sing their prayers when they can. Anytime a congregation sings a hymn, it can be seen as a form of prayer. In reference to the intro to music, The Hurrian Hymns were made as an offering to the Goddess Nikkal-wa-lb. You can offer music to any God or other being.
⚘☽ Manifestation ☾⚘
This was a particularly fun wormhole to fall down, but according to what I have read so far, music can help with manifesting. This is because music amplifies our feelings and moods, and strengthens our vibrations and energies. This higher energies help to attract things you are wanting to attract. Certain songs can attract different things. For example, affirming songs can manifest positivity, luck, etc.
⚘☽ Mood & Motivation ☾⚘
Many people use music to boost or lower their mood, or motivate themselves. This applies to the youngest children still in the womb to grown adults to elderly people on their deathbed. We see little kids in daycare, singing the “clean up” song to motivate them to clean up the room they are in. We see people using music to motivate themselves out of bad moods, whether it helps them to be more productive at work, or drag themselves out of a depressive episode. We see people playing their loved one’s favorite music before they pass away, as the sense of hearing is many times the last one to go, and it makes the ill patient happy to hear their songs. Music calms the nervous system and lower cortisol levels which helps reduce stress and calm the mind. Listening to music that gives you chills or that you really, really enjoy releases dopamine. Listening to music that is sad can help to elevate mood, but some say it can be counteractive because it can also trigger depressive episodes.
