The man had been HALF dead when Moses discovered him in that back alley. Her clumsy hand presses to his forehead. "What in heaven's name happened to you? You have been quite adamant that you need to find someone. Perhaps, Dr. Franklin will allow me to fetch them for you, provided you tell me where they are located?"

since you write Anna and Sarah Phillips could you tell me how their views on Arnold compare and contrast?

Anna's first recollection of hearing about Benedict Arnold came on the heels of his service at Saratoga. He had been around at the outbreak of thew war in Lexington with Ethan Allen. But the papers first heralded him a HERO after Saratoga- so a little bit after October 1777. Her first impressions of him were truly quite favorable given how easily he threw the British into disarray. The papers also touted his bravery at Quebec and Lake Champlain. This opinion is bolstered by words sent from Tallmadge. Ben Tallmadge's opinion of him was also one of shock and reverence.

That favorable opinion began to wane during his occupation in Philadelphia. It is there, that his ego and bad attitude began to take lordship over his life.

Then in late 1780, when Abigail reveals Arnold's treachery and the plot about West Point, the BETRAYAL she felt was INTENSE. Surely, it was nowhere near as intense as what General Washington must have felt, having been closely confiding in the man. But it sent Anna into a PANIC mode. Everything she fought so dearly for was now placed in HORRIBLE JEAPORDY.

After the war, she could NEVER think of Arnold in the same fashion. Though he had served quite honorably at the start, his reputation was well and truly sullied. If she had SEEN him again, she would have likely taken her SHOT.

Sarah wasn't too KEEN on rebels after being bound, gagged, and kidnapped by Colonel Ethan Allen and his Green Mountain Boys. She saw him as brassy, unrefined. So when Arnold appeared, ostentatious and on horseback and speaking quite excellently in the Kings English, she FELT a certain level of kinship. He was the kind of man who reminded her of her father.

She sat down to conduct a personal interview with him. Colonel Arnold was eloquent in his approach, almost diplomatic and quite amiable despite her prodding. He was protective of her which, earned a good deal of respect.

May 10th 1775, Sarah decided to accompany him on his attack of Fort Ticonderoga. There she witnessed first had his valor. And though Arnold defects to her side, his treachery never sat quite right with her. Not after he extolled the virtues of the rebels.

On the other hand, let it be said, she abhors Arnold's wife- Peggy Shippen. (not pertinent to the inquiry at hand, but have that hot take anyways)

I said I'd write this LK headcanon into a scene/ficlet so I'll write it dammit(under a read more bc long):

"Henri, get off the roof of the carriage." Sarah scolded. "You'll get knocked off by a tree branch."

"Sarah, you know that no tree branch can defeat the Great and Powerful Henr-agh!!" Henri sputters as he tries to get the tree branch out of his face. The redhead chuckles, "I told you so." going unspoken. Henri huffed as he clambered back into the carriage.

As he settles in, Henri glances over as Sarah is writing another letter to her Maman. She puts more ink on her quill when she writes to Lady Phillips, Henri's realized. They've known each other for almost a year, but Henri has found noticing Sarah's habits to be entertaining on boring rides. It started when Henri asked Moses why Sarah would side with the British.

It had made no sense. Sarah was always nice to him. She'd speak to him in French when he can't think in English, forget talking. The redcoats l'a traité comme de la merde. Moses just asked if the British treat Sarah like they do him. They don't; redcoats smiled at her and asked what a respectable girl was doing with "rebel scum". Henri guessed he'd think the British were good if they treated him like he was good too. But Henri also realized was it was fun to notice things about Sarah.

Sarah has lots of habits, like if she tapped her feet in a rhythm, she was hungry. Or the letters to pass time on boring carriage rides, like this one. Henri wants to climb the carriage again.

"You're awfully quiet, Henri." Sarah's voice broke through Henri's thoughts. "did you get hurt by the tree branches?"

"Non non, je vais bien. Je m'ennuie simplement. James is so lucky to have been rid of this trip already." Henri replies.

"He will be getting to learn more about the camp than we are." Sarah muses, looking back down at her letter, but didn't go back to writing. Her left hand reaches for her collar and curls her finger under her necklace and started flipping her locket around its chain. Henri focused on the repetitive motion.

Henri thinks he's figured this habit out. Plus vite que normale! Sarah messing with her locket almost constantly for a little over a week has helped. When he or Moses mentioned James, she'd have a hand on her necklace soon after. Sarah keeps flipping the golden locket with left hand as she starts writing again.

Henri figured the habit was about James before they left. Saras can be obvious if you're used to noticing like Henri is. Maybe he should be a journalist. But it could mean something particular about him. She could be missing him, but it's kinda late for that. Henri missed James after he left 2 weeks ago, but they'll see him by supper, so he's excited to see him. Sarah doesn't look excited at all.

The carriage shakes as Sarah dips her quill into the inkwell, and she huffs. Is she mad at him? There's no way James could annoy Sarah when he's not around, so she's probably not angry. Maybe she's worried about him? That makes sense. They haven't heard from James since he left, not like they could get it since they left yesterday morning though.

"Are you worried about him?" Henri asks. Oops, that's probably strange to ask. C'est la vie as his friends back in France say.

"What?" Sarah's eyebrows bunch together more. The hand holding her locket goes still, and she looks away for a moment to close her inkwell before turning back to look at him in confusion.

"about James. You look... worried?" Henri tries to choose his words carefully. If Sarah wasn't worried before he asked, he doesn't want to make her worried.

He seems to succeed, because rather than worried, Sarah looks almost embarrassed. "I suppose you're correct. It's just that normally when we depart after James, he sends a letter about the state of the camp and we at least know the voyage will be safe." Sarah was switching between speaking fast and slow, like a dance he learned at the own square. "But we didn't hear anything this week, so I am a bit concerned about James's well-being."

"Okay. Just wondering." Henri laughed. Sarah was fiddling with her locket again.

"I promise to give you my share of bread after supper tonight if you don't mention it to him." Sarah said. "I don't need him mocking me over what is likely just slow mail."

"Deal. I will never refuse good food."

Sarah giggles, as the carriage continues to rattle. "You never do."

Alone Again (Naturally) by Gilbert O'Sullivan, one of my favorite songs.

The first half of the original song is about suicidal ideation brought on by a broken heart after being left at the alter and feeling forsaken by God. The latter half is about the author's grief over his father's physical death and his mother experiencing death of the spirit over the loss (of someone who was not kind to her) followed by death of the vessel and the author's greater grief over losing his mother twice; a sense of desertion, once again. It has the feeling of a little ditty shared by someone whose soul is tired. The juxtaposition.

The title is also the chorus, if you can call it that. It only stands alone once in the whole song, and it's almost like an afterthought. Every other utterance is sung with little more than a breath and no musical change between it and preceding verse, though it might be better to call it a pre-chorus. I love unconventional structures.

Ok, here's my headcanon. Benedict Arnold has shown some yandere behavior towards sarah. So James would do the best he can to get Sarah away from that creep.

1000% agree with this, even with Peggy standing right over there. He would grow over obsessed with her to the point where he couldn’t look into flames without seeing her silhouette.

James would not be able to overpower him physically, but I can picture him getting in front of her so Arnold can’t touch her. And if Arnold snatched her, James would risk getting hanged to get her back.

I honestly do think that if this show weren’t for kids, Sarah definitely would have been kidnapped by him and he’d attempt to gaslight her and even beat her, but she’d escape on her own before James can storm the redcoat camp.

“Get comfortable, Ms. Phillips. You’re not leaving this room without my say.” His veiny hands planted themselves over her shoulders from behind like a hawk preparing to snatch up a mouse.

“What is General Clinton going to say when he finds out you took me prisoner for yourself?”

It was true that she did not possess any valuable knowledge that was to be kept amongst the rebels, so they would have no reason to interrogate her.

“Well Ms. Phillips, it doesn’t matter because I have every right to take you prisoner as I see fit.”

Sarah was feeling brave when these next words rolled off her tongue; “You’re a monster.”

This man was supposed to be a friend and a hero to her but all Sarah could see now was a man possessed by his fragile feelings. That comment resulted in being spun around and receiving a sharp stinging slap to the cheek.

“I warned you Ms. Phillips!” He snapped. Considering he nearly chocked her out not even thirty minutes prior, she shouldn’t have been surprised by that. Still, the tears flowed freely from the tingling of her cheek and musings on what her fate was to be. His hands her now clutching her arms, shaking her. “You will respect me or so help me god I will beat you like a fucking dog!”

“Is that why you did it?” She whimpered. “For respect?”

People who conflate the muse with the writer. I run into this problem ALL THE TIME with my historical fiction centric muses (ESPECIALLY my historical figures, for obvious reasons), and as I always say in my rules, if someone can’t separate the writer and the muse, then they are not mature enough to write with me. For the MILLIONTH TIME — just because the old dead white guys that I write as hold problematic views doesn’t that I endorse or have those views myself <33333333

Forgetting that plotting is collaborative, and expecting me to do all the work. If you want to interact with me, make an honest effort to match my energy and my contributions during the plotting process. Suggest some ideas and concepts of your own; I don’t bite!

◈　EXPERIENCE/HOW MANY YEARS　 ⋯ 　 I am pretty sure that I've been roleplaying since 2016, which was my freshman year of high school. The musical Hamilton was starting to become popular at that time, so that — as well as the adjacent American Revolution community — was my first RPC. George Washington and John Adams were my very first muses, and Celeste Franklin became my first ever original character created for roleplay. Since then, l've written on Instagram, Discord, and Twitter. Tumblr is probably my favorite platform for roleplay.

◈　FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT　 ⋯ 　Out of these three, I like writing a perfect blend of them all. However, my favorite type of roleplay is a secret fourth genre — hurt / comfort.

◈　PLOTS OR MEMES　 ⋯ 　Askbox memes all the way! They are a GREAT way to get interactions going, test the waters of a new dynamic, and start new threads! I also like using them as a springboard for the plotting process. When it comes to “plotting”, I perceive it as an umbrella term that encompasses exchanging headcanons about our muses or discussing character dynamics in detail, so to me it is an ongoing process that begins the moment I reach out to you OOC and continues throughout our roleplays. Plotting only ends when interactions between us end.

◈　LONG OR SHORT REPLIES　 ⋯ 　My replies tend to vary in length, and oftentimes these lengths will match your own. It is the substance that matters to me the most — you just have to give me something to work with by having some form of interaction with my character in your response, and I won’t bat an eye about how long it is.

◈　TIME TO WRITE　 ⋯ 　I try to get my responses done throughout the entire day, but the majority of my writing is typically finished in the afternoon, early evening, and right before I go to bed.

◈　ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSES　 ⋯ 　As a writer with multiple muses, the answer is naturally “it depends on the muse”. I’d say that the ones I relate to the most are Shi’al Valorum, Abraham Lincoln (literally why I’m writing a whole entire musical about his struggle with mental health), Sarah Phillips, Emmeline Eisenhower, and maybe Ophelia???
