Lost in Montalban's Paradise
Calmness, Quietness, Peacefulness. Calmness, as my heart breathes, it makes me feel very light. The wind, dancing trees, and being away from the dark smoke that wraps me daily, calm my whole body.
Quietness, everywhere I go, the silence remains. It’s only you and this beautiful environment that will be heard. Peacefulness, away from the agitation of the real world and untroubled by problems I was able to understand what peace is when I finally found this place.
Mt. Parawagan is one of the famous mountains located in Sitio Wawa Rodriguez, Rizal. It is only 15 to 20 minutes away from the Municipal Hall of Rodriguez, Rizal. You just need to take a jeepney that will lead you to Wawa Dam in San Rafael. From there you can walk to the feet of the mountain, but you have a choice if you want to ride a tricycle, but it is a bit pricy since the road is very bumpy and it’s a bit far. After taking a tricycle you can start the hike and upon hiking you will see a lot of campsites.
Mt. Parawagan is considered to be a minor climb with a difficulty rating of 3/9, the climb is approximately 5 kilometers distance from the drop-off point to the summit. The last 2.5 kilometers is an uphill trail climb. It might be a short trail but the

Sunset View. Mt. Parawagan, Montalban, Philippines
The northern half of Metro Manila and its neighboring towns and cities can be seen from the summit of Mt. Parawagan in my hometown. It also has a view of the sun setting behind Mt. Mariveles in Bataan, and a hint of the Manila Bay.

September 30, 2019 | Mt. Parawagan Rodriguez, Rizal
Having finished Montalban Trilogy V1 early this year, Mt. Parawagan is my top pick among the three mountains in V2. Kaya naman when Hanah voiced out her need for some mountain air and Ijo and I were able to work on our schedules, we whisked her off for another escape.
We reached Sitio Wawa a little after five in a cold and damp morning. Ang promising kaya ng panahon sa Maynila. Hindi naman namin inakala. And like a tease, it started to rain softly. Hindi pa naman kami nag-prepare ng sun dance number. Hehe. We waited for the pitter-patter to stop and we headed south and started trekking--all grey and cloudy. Sunrise hike, eodi?
The trail is quite wide leading to a moderately steep ascending slope full of loose rocks and mud. It resembles Mt. Balagbag’s. Hanah, just behind Kuya Eagle, was leading our friendship tripod and I was at the tail of the pack. Get a grip, hiker self. And after more than an hour scaling, we have successfully reached atop (480+ MASL). May pasulpot-sulpot namang clearing. We caught sight of the neighbor mountains and the skyscrapers of Makati. I can only imagine how beautiful the sunrise here would be. I really should come back. It seems that my summit anthem, Hillsong United’s Transfiguration, was timely. “Lead my longing heart to the high ground, to a clear view.”
As if on cue, the passing shower earlier decided to pass again. Big, heavy sheets of it. It made the descent more challenging. But we’re made of some tough stuff, you know. We geared ourselves up and climbed down. I ran—gingerly at first and then with more confidence. It felt amazing. I figure that this is one of the many things that can happen when you believe in yourself. And just like that, we’re back at the jump off in no time, looking like a flailing mess. Messy but happy. Thank You, Jesus.

On To The Secret River
Some river adventures after our Mt. Parawagan bike climb… We crossed the Wawa River and hiked to Mt. Ayaas’ Secret River. We ate lunch and swam there. Fun times.

Mt. Parawagan by Paolo Dala
At the summit of Mt. Parawagan (480 masl).
This was the first time I summited a mountain on a bike. I always wanted to do that. I pushed the bike on in some parts, but it still counts as a bike climb. Haha... It was some kind of an experience. The ascend part is probably one of my most mountain ascend experience. On the other hand, the descend part is the definitely my easiest mountain descend ever.
I hope I get to do bike climbs in the future.
