Reunited
It's good to see my friends and family once again after a year! I've made a point to my one and only brother to come back from Singapore just to fetch me in Kuala Lumpur. Haha! Princess ain't it?
First meal after touch down!
Applause to Nasi Lemak and Teh Tarik at Village Park!
Tumblr media
I was so full from the meal and bro decided to have ice cream!
Tumblr media
Later on, we drove back to Penang. On the way, we stop by small towns to buy some snacks and have a light meal. Uncle Alex has been craving for seasonal fruits and was glad to see cempedak at the shop. So dad decided to buy it for uncle.
A few days later, when the cempedak was ripe, they open and ate it. After eating, we have a dinner appointment with Mrs. Foong. Mrs Foong is the most humble and genuine lady that I always love!
So I was appointed to fetch her with uncle Alex and dad in the car. As we were heading there, Uncle Alex's eye started to get itchy and red. I told my brother to get some eye drops and we will meet at the restaurant.
Uncle Alex's eye started to teared and get worst. So he decided to put on a sunglass when we reach the restaurant. And everyone was looking at him thinking that he's blind!
Tumblr media
As we were eating, Uncle Alex is starting to feel uncomfortable. He removed his glasses a little and I was shocked to see his eye swollen! Like, gold fish! Him being an ex-nurse started to diagnose his own issue and ask me to find the nearest pharmacy. But it was a Sunday and most pharmacy and clinics are close after dinner. As we left the restaurant, Uncle Alex started to examine himself and found out that there is spots on his tummy which rectifies that he has allergies to the food that he ate. He was still stubborn and wanted to get medication in the pharmacy but my brother said to go to the A&E in Adventist Hospital. I quickly drove there and drop Uncle Alex at the entrance and mom and bro accompanied him.
Because Uncle Alex is a foreigner, he needs to present his IC but he did not bring his IC with him. The nurses said to get the IC first before treatment. We told them it takes at least 40 mins to drive back and it won't be fair to see uncle Alex suffering. So I quickly drove all the way back to Sungai Ara and took a picture of the identity card to send it to my brother. My brother said that Uncle would have died if we delay him to the A&E as he was choking and finding it hard to breathe when he was at the hospital. Really thank God for protecting my uncle..
So, what's the root cause of the allergy?
CEMPEDAK.
The family of Jackfruit.
Allergy to jackfruit isn't common and uncle didn't have this issue the last time he came back to Malaysia and eat it. Not sure why this time his body couldn't accept it and reacted to it.
Uncle Alex came back home with a swollen eye but he felt much better. Then I found nangka, another kind of jackfruit family and offered him. Haha!!
Tumblr media
So, the dinner with Mrs. Foong wasn't a pleasant one as we were busy dealing with the allergies. So Uncle Alex decided to call another dinner with her but this time, steamboat!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And that is just a part of the story in Malaysia..
More to come!

Talked to a few true friends this week & hungout with 1 of my true friends Aaron today! Through these stressful times more sadness. There needs to be better gun control & gun violence is never okay.
Scary day yesterday as the whole world heard. Eventhough Trump is a jerk, I'm glad he's okay eventhough I will I always love Biden.
Remember that Trump was convicted 43 counts in court & still eligible to be president is ridiculous. No wonder why people are extremely angry & if Trump becomes president, there will be a lot of extra angry people with more violence & chaos & makes it extra dangerous for Trump to be president.
I don't even mind if a different Republican runs for president & wins as long as it's not Trump. Republican or Democrat, please vote for Biden or make Trump ineligible ; Biden for be being president who speaks facts & not opinions like the other candidate named Trump. Trump gives me the biggest anxiety and headaches in the world. Trump always makes me physically shake in fear because he's so unpredictable.
I'm also extremely sad that Richard Simmons and Shannon Doherty passed away.😭 I loved Richard Simmons, in our 3rd grade class Mrs. Haney's class we would workout to Richard Simmons workouts for fun. Also, I loved Shannon Doherty because I loved watching the original "Charmed" show when I was a kid. I loved Prue on Charmed! 😭🔮
Song played on Instagram is called "Collide" by Howie Day! I loved Howie Day when I was a kid! Feeling so nostalgic & this was always one of my top favorite songs to listen to. 😭🩵
Always needing some prayers again.🙏 I, Mina Van 文风英 Woon Foong Yin (in Hakka Chinese).Nevada born & raised.Proud nurse, coach. Family living in Nevada for 45 (forty-five) years.Spread kindness.❤️

Why island6? The following piece “Suzhou Creek Reflections” offers some insight into the history behind the iconic name...
This hand painted artwork was inspired by the area surrounding Suzhou Creek. This piece is very special to us because the red brick building in the foreground, the Fou Foong Flour Mill, is where our art collective was first established back in 2006! The mill was designed in 1897 by the British architectural firm Dallas and Atkinson, and founded by Mr. Sun Duoxin and his brother Mr. Sun Duosen from Anhui province.
In 2002, most of the silos were demolished and the 'small packaged flour' warehouse, building #6, was left standing alone surrounded by the Suzhou Creek, and so the name "island6" emerged, and the rest is history! During this time, island6 Arts Center was known for its peculiar location in a field of rubble surrounded by modern sky-high towers creeping from the distance, a visual example of Shanghai's transformation from past to future. The background is the largest downtown residential community in the city known as "Zhongyuan Liangwancheng" (or Brilliant City). Between 40 to 50 thousand people live in this condominium complex. The demography of a small town in the rest of the world basically! The animation shows Liu Dao's playful character dusting off these towering buildings as if it were child's play. This piece showcases a seemingly normal Shanghai moment with just the right amount of fantasy and wonder making it an iconic island6 artwork.

Ping Shuai Gong
Tumblr media
Sun 2019/07/21
Unable to contain his curiousity any more, one evening this uncle who, like me like to do solo road exercise walking decided to engage me in a friendly conversation. Seeing me standing and swinging my hands up and down for 30 minutes while bending and straightening my knees  he asked me what kind of solo exercise that I was doing on the hilltop. "Hand swinging and knee bending exercise known as Ping2 Shuai3 Gong1 ( 平甩功 )," my response. Ping2 Shuai3 Gong1 is a very simple qigong exercise, also known as swing hands exercise that can be practiced by anyone, anywhere and anytime. Ping2 Shuai3 Gong1 benefits its practitioner by improving balance, making the joints and muscles more fluid and allows the entire body to relax. The flow of energy through the body will also fortify the muscles, joints and bones by making them stronger and healthier.  The sequence of movement can bring blood circulation to the end of our limbs quickly and easily, as the qi and blood redirected back to our internal organs, our body and overall health will improve after constant practice and allowing them to heal and strengthen as they should. Elaborating further, I told him that I would stick to the recommended schedule of doing the exercise 3 times daily in the morning, evening and night before bedtime whenever possible. To get the full benefit, the practitioner should do each set of the hand swinging and knee bending exercise for the minimum of 30 minutes. At the end of 30 minutes the practitioner will have swung his hands front and back and up and down 1,200 times. Thus if he consistently  practices the exercise 3 times a day, at the end of each day he will have executed the total accumulated hand swings of 3,600 times. During the course of our friendly conversation I found out his name is Mr Foong, age 66, obese and an asthmatic and his exercising to manage his health issue. He asked me to show him how to do Ping2 Shuai3 Gong1 which I happily obliged by having him to copy my movements as we swung our hands and bent and straightened our knees together. After the count of 200 swings, he had to stop as he was fast running out of breath. Reassuring him, I told him that it is usually difficult for the beginner and those with health issues to manage 1 set of 1,200 swings and stand for 30 minutes all in one go. Hence he should do only as much eg.not more than 100 swings and 3 minutes initially as his health allows him and gradually build up the number of swings and duration to 1,200 times and standing for 30 minutes duration each set and doing the exercise 3 times daily.

Spock did it. The Calgary Comic Expo owes a lot to Leonard Nimoy.APRIL 17, 2015 6:00 AM
Now marking its 10th anniversary, Herald entertainment writer Stephen Hunt finds out how it all began.
Up until 2010, the Calgary Comic Expo was a nice comic book collector’s event.
They brought in a few actors from time to time such as Peter Mayhew — Chewbacca in Star Wars — but the event could definitely have been described as nerd niche.
Then in the summer of 2009, Calgary Expo founder Kandrix Foong tracked down Leonard Nimoy.
“I guess I had made some pretty good contacts in the industry,” Foong says. “I had actually met with Leonard in August 2009 and said, here’s some things I want to do with his appearance (such as visiting Vulcan, the namesake home of Nimoy’s Mr. Spock Star Trek character) and it just — I guess you could say it just took off. “
“That’s the one that really put us on the map,” he says, “That generated huge media all over North America, let alone Calgary.”
Now, as the Calgary Comic Expo launches its 10th anniversary show April 16-19 at Stampede Park, the event has grown into a really big deal, both locally and on the comic con circuit, routinely drawing over 50,000 visitors, and filling many city hotels, bars and restaurants.
Following Nimoy’s appearance in 2010, there was a 2012 Star Trek reunion that caused attendance to explode (and also created havoc, with the venue filled to overflowing and ticket holders being forced to line up for hours to gain entry into the event).

Reflection
Throughout this process I gain relevant insight on how to create and manage an innovative idea through the design thinking process, in relation to goal twelve of the United Nations 17 goals to sustainable development.
Within first phase of development I worked on the core research of fast-fashion pollution and workers rights, as well as establishing our first initial concept of the rating system featuring the swing tags. Within this process I also worked on emphasis which focuses on the “human-centered nature of idea generation and knowledge construction,”‌(Koh,  Chai, Wong, Hong, 2015). This area allowed us to become more aware of why brands choose fast fashion but acknowledges that their needs to be a change. Additionally, I conducted the research through surveys to understand if this was relevant or not to our target market, allowing us to develop our idea based on the external views of the team. Further, I developed the “discover” section of our double diamond response finding key information about the issues and what our clients want.
Within the second phase, I was in charge of developing and making content for our social media page which is seen bellow as well as build a PR campaign for the introduction of eco-co, which is briefly features.
When developing our ideas we faced alot of problems with the first concept, it was too broad and we found it to be too costly, and time  consuming due to the government process that we would need implement. Due to this we began brainstorming in class on how to simplify the idea and found an app would hold the same idea without changing the values. This generate more discission around how we would design and layout the app, ensuring that it was easy to digest and informative of brands and their practices.
When developing the PR campaign the first approach was to just feature guest speakers, however, I found that although this is informative, it would not attract a broad audience as only individuals who found sustainability within fast-fashion interesting or relevant to their lives would attend. That’s were I introduced the idea of the pop-up markets that would attract more people to the event as it gives them the option to shop and trade clothes whilst listening to Olivia Halle from Halle The Label, Angela, Rowena and Juliana Foong from High Tea with Mrs Woo and Jessy Cameron owner of the Molten Store. I also suggest that we place QR codes around the area to allow attendees to easily access the app, as well as brand logos to create brand awareness. The demonstration aspect would then instigate individuals to download eco-ca whilst at the location. Additionally, the app can cause limitation due to updating information and brands, unforntualnty this wasnt a topic of discussion and no further data was collected in regards to this to offer support or guidance on how to start and maintain this.
This app in relations to United Nations goal twleve conforms to objectives by generating an accessible platform to gain relevant information whilst shopping, as well as increasing awareness, however, it does not necessarily put fix the issue of the fast-fashion industry but rather creates an initiative to help reduce the impacts. Through limitation the app still needs a lot of work to properly maintain but through development it can help make an impact for those individuals wanting to make a change.
Throughout this blog it will take you through the key steps that were taken when developing eco-ca and the relevant research to support the ideas surrounding this concept.
