Vice President describes Mahatma Gandhi as Mahapurush and says Modi is the Yugpurush of the century
On Monday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar talked about Mahatma Gandhi and said that he was the ‘mahapurush' of the last century. He further describes PM Narendra Modi as the ‘yugpurush' of this century.
“Mahatma Gandhi freed us from the slavery of the British through satyagraha and non-violence. India's successful Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken us to a path where we always wanted to be,” Mr Dhankhar said.
The VP made the statement while speaking on the birth anniversary celebrations of Jain mystic and philosopher Shrimad Rajchandraji.
“I want to tell you one thing. The mahapurush of the last century was Mahatma Gandhi. Narendra Modi is the yugpurush of this century,” Mr Dhankhar said.
He also unveiled a large mural of Shrimad Rajchandraji, known for his teachings on Jainism and his spiritual guidance to Mahatma Gandhi.
“One thing is common between these two great personalities, the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, and PM Narendra Modi. They have reflected with respect to Shrimad Rajchandraji,” Mr Dhankhar said.
“Forces opposed to the growth of this nation, forces that do not digest the rise of this country are coming together. Whenever there is something good happening in the country, they get into a different mode. This should not happen,” Mr Dhankhar said.
“The danger is very big. The countries which you see around (us), their histories are 300 or 500 or 700 years old, (while) our history is 5,000 years old,” he added.

[ad_1] Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and wife Sudesh Dhankhar in RajasthanNew Delhi: Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar has some advice for Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, who has been questioning the Vice President's frequent visit to the Congress-ruled state where the assembly election will be held soon.At an election campaign in Rajasthan's Neemrana, Mr Gehlot had objected to the Vice President's visit to five districts since the election is near and the visit would "send all kinds of message, which is not good for democracy.""Politicians should come, but please do not send the Vice President; it is a constitutional post. We respect the President and the Vice President. Yesterday the Vice President came and visited five districts. It is election season. If you come now it will send all kinds of message which is not good for democracy," Mr Gehlot told a gathering in Neemrana.Vice President Dhankhar in an apparent response to Mr Gehlot said those in high positions should use responsible words."The higher the position a person holds, the more dignified his conduct should be. Making any comment to gain political advantage is not a good thing. I call upon everyone to be responsible when it comes to constitutional institutions," the Vice President said. The Vice President said it is a matter of "contemplation and concern that some people make indecent comments on constitutional institutions, wearing political glasses.""They should not do this; such behaviour is against our cultural heritage," he said. "We must not look at constitutional functionaries with a political prism to score political points. That is not acceptable," he added.Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal had also asked Mr Gehlot whether the Vice President needs to take the Chief Minister's permission for visiting Rajasthan."For the Vice President, the Chief Minister said why is he coming now? So the Vice President will come after getting permission from him?" Mr Meghwal told reporters in Jaipur on Thursday.Mr Gehlot is on an intensive campaign across Rajasthan, touching 18 districts and heading into 38 constituencies. It's also a part of "Mission 2030" outreach where Mr Gehlot is talking about his vision for Rajasthan till 2030.Mr Gehlot strategy has a soft Hindutva subtext as he will also visit important temples during this campaign. His schedule shows he will visit at least 10 prominent and local temples during the third leg of this nine-day campaign before the election code kicks in. [ad_2]

“Is it not sufficient that I am here? Said Congress MP Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury when asked about Gandhi’s absence
On Sunday, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar hoisted the national flag at the new Parliament building. The event was celebrated a day before the new session of Parliament was scheduled to start and several party leaders, from ruling as well as opposition parties, were present at the event. Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, Union ministers Pralhad Joshi, Piyush Goyal, Arjun Ram Meghwal, and others represented the BJP party whereas several others were in attendance from the Congress Party. It was noted that Congress chief and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and party MP Rahul Gandhi were absent.
It was Congress MP and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury who majorly represented the opposition and when asked about the absence of Kharge and Mr. Gandhi he said, “Is it not sufficient that I am here? If I am not useful here, tell me and I will leave.”
Chowdhury also asked the media to focus on those who were in attendance rather than going after those who couldn’t make it.
Earlier, Kharge expressed his concerns over a late invite earlier and said he was attending a Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting in Hyderabad when he received the invite.
"I am writing this letter with a sense of disappointment that I have received your invite for a flag hoisting function tomorrow at the new Parliament Building only on September 15, quite late in the evening,’ Kharge wrote to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General PC Mody.
Kharge was attending a meeting with the newly formed working committee of the Congress Party. He was scheduled to return to New Delhi on Sunday evening and hence couldn’t make it to the function.
