Mr Leonhart wasn't redeemed and I refuse to accept him as such
If you’ve been anywhere near my blog, you’ll know that I don’t tolerate that guy in any way, shape, or form, nor accept his apology to Annie
I have multiple reasons to believe his apology wasn’t sincere/well-intentioned.
He had the worst motivation out of all warrior parents
I think the reason I'm angry with Mr Leonhart the most compared to other Warrior Parents, even though they're all shit (I guess with the exception of Pieck’s father) is that the rest of them believed Marley's propaganda
They believed in the whole Eldian sin and Island Devil thing. Most parents of warriors, even kids training to become warriors, believed their kids were giving away their lives for a good and honorable cause. This is still abuse and it’s gross, but really, it’s not out of the “ordinary”
Parents place ridiculously harsh and harmful expectations on their kids all the time. Plus, I don’t think they would’ve straight up abandoned their kids if they didn’t make it as warriors
Mr Leonhart, however, never fell for Marley’s shit version of history nor did he care. He came from abroad and Annie once said he was in the same situation as her (mixed parents), when he took her in as a baby for a purely selfish reasoning
Tumblr media
While it’s easy to put some distance since the situation of the warriors is nothing like in the real world, I’ll give you an example:
Someone adopts a puppy and then trains it for underground dog fighting to make money and better their financial situation. If the dog loses/isn’t good enough, he’s gonna throw it out. This also puts the dog at risk of injury, shortened lifespan, and overall reduced quality of life
I don’t feel hesitant using an animal in this example, because Annie was merely a tool, and like all tools, if it’s not doing its job, it gets thrown out
Tumblr media
His apology wasn’t for Annie
Annie only miraculously became his daughter that he loves and cares about only after he’d gotten what he wanted: an irrevocable(?) Honorary Marleyan title. Doubt he would’ve had the same “revelation” had Annie failed her candidacy
Two aspects of his apology, in particular, piss me off: the timing and the rootcause/motivation
Timing
If Annie’s 13 years of titan shifting end when she’s 22, that means she got her titan powers when she was 9 years old. But the attack on Wall Maria happened in 845, when Annie was 11
Why the two year gap??
It’s not like military work as a titan shifter is a part-time job or a 9-to-5. She probably went away for days if not weeks at a time during Marley’s countless expansion and invasion efforts. She could’ve died or been captured during all of those and yet that still wasn’t enough for Mr Leonhart to realize his fatherly feelings towards her
I think it’s control
In the Lost Girls manga, Annie says her relationship with her father was “one of absolute obedience.”
Tumblr media
And Annie was never a rebellious kid. She only went against him once (when she broke his leg) and never again
While in the military, Annie was being constantly monitored by her commanding officers. She had rules to follow and consequences for disobeying
But leaving for Paradis on a longer mission? She’s free
She’s free from him and from Marley and he knows she won’t care for her mission the same way Reiner, Bert, and Marcel cared, because she doesn’t believe in the Island Devils propaganda in the first place
Tumblr media
I highly doubt the Paradis mission was announced to them the morning of their departure. They’ve known for a while, and yet he waited until the morning of her departure to say something
To be fair, it wouldn’t surprise me if he’d gotten somewhat attached to her over the course of 11 years. The other warriors still had families to return to, but once Annie is let go, she’s gone. So that might’ve played a part
Motivation
Another part that pisses me off is that his regret never seemed like he was sorry for Annie, but for himself, for the type of person he'd become
After all, no one likes to believe that they’re evil/the bad guy
Tumblr media
Considering that he still lives in the same rundown house as before, I don’t think(?) he’d taken advantage of any/many of the perks and privileges awarded to the parents of warriors during the 10 years Annie’s gone
But this all strikes me as self-flagellation, that he’s more concerned with feeling better about himself and his own past deeds, and not really the entire life he’d ruined and the child he’d mentally, emotionally, verbally, and physically abused since day one
Tumblr media
It was always about him, and it's still just him
There’s this shot during the rumbling that MAPPA added, in which we see Annie’s old house right before it’s stomped:
Tumblr media
Those are the same padded polls Annie used to train with. He hadn’t removed them
At first glance, this looks like a way for him to not sweep his past/guilt under the rug. To face what he’d done to Annie every time he’d step out of the house or even look out the window.
Shows his remorse, right?
Sure, but what about Annie? What if she had returned with Reiner 4 years ago?
She finally manages to get home to her father, her family, the only reason she kept going, only to find her open-air torture chamber still up, like it’s been waiting for her return all along
I’m not saying he was planning on getting back to his old ways as soon as she got back not at all!
But even with his bad leg, over the course of 10 WHOLE YEARS, he could’ve dug them out. He could’ve asked it as a favor of Reiner and I know Reiner would’ve absolutely done it had they the smallest doubt Annie might come back and see them
But he didn’t because it’s about him feeling like he’s not escaping from his past mistakes, facing them head on like an honorable man
Annie? she doesn’t matter
Her return as his daughter is also another way for him to feel better about himself and that he’s actually making it up for his actions; atoning for his sins
Also, note the difference between how Annie remembers the apology:
Tumblr media
vs how Mr Leonhart remembers the apology:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
(those two shots are from the same chapter)
It really feels like his perception of that day is completely different from Annie's. She looks at him directly and smiles, while Annie mostly remembers herself still being in shock even as she promises him to come back
Final thoughts
I’m not saying his apology was entirely a manipulation technique. But Annie was and still is a tool to him, this time with the fancy title of “daughter”
If her previous purpose in life was to become a warrior and complete her mission, then her current purpose is to become a good daughter so he could feel like a good father
Post-canon, this would likely take most (if not all) of the verbal and physical abuse out of their relationship, but I can’t say the same for more covert types of mistreatment: mental and emotional
I think it’s important to respect/try to understand Annie’s point of view as well, for still loving him, since he was the reason she survived and come to think of her life as one worth living, even if only to return to him and be his daughter
Tumblr media
Still, I wouldn’t really say that Annie has forgiven him. Not really
I doubt she even realizes she was hurt in a way that matters. Simply disassociating from that whole aspect of her life—blocking it out. Especially considering how she was able to tell her story to Hitch
Tumblr media
The chance of simply “having a father” and be something more than a tool, was enough for young Annie to not even think about all the harm he’d done to her
It was always about him, and it's still just him

I don't know if it's a controversial opinion, but I'm very sure that Annie in the post-canon moved away from her father forever. It was a slow, painful process and she made many false steps because that's how it is to set limits in family relationships, but my girl finally got it.
And I don't mean that she did it just because of Armin's presence, it was much more, being with the ambassadors gave her a family, Pieck, Reiner, Jean and Connie also became very important people for her, people with she felt safe.
Because of that family she found, people who understood her, loved her and supported her in difficult times, she was able to realize many things that were wrong with her relationship with her father. So yes, for me Annie ended up moving away from him, flourishing with her new family.

Loosely basing Mr. Leonhart on my irl father-in-law who plays hard metal rock at an ear drum breaking volume when he thinks no one’s home to the point where the cat had tried to jump out the window once

SOOO I just realized two scenes were MISSING from the chapter because of a ridiculous mishap in my export settings. I've updated the chapter and I put the beginning of those scenes in bold so that they can be easily found by scrolling, BUT now I'm also adding them here because I feel bad for them.
(I'm shocked and very sorry. Sorry! T__T)
This was the first scene!
In the early morning, Connie woke them up by knocking soundly on their door. “What is it?” Annie asked from the other side while fastening the belt of her dressing gown. “Sara at the telephone for you,” said Connie. “It sounds urgent.”
Annie rushed down the stairs. “Hello?” she said into the receiver, panting. Sara however, on the other end, sounded perfectly calm. “There’s a problem with the provisions for Serenia House,” she said. She told Annie an address. “I’m going there now. Can I meet you there?” So, it was happening. Fuck.
And this one came right after the talk with Verena Benesch, and it is a flashback:
“Your hand strikes too high, and you’re too slow.”
As soon as Annie gave her correction, Eren tried the move again on her.
It didn’t work: she blocked him once more.
“Maybe stop for a moment and think about what I told you?” Annie offered.
“You’d slam me to the ground if I did, Annie!”
“That was one time and it was during freeform, so granted, of course I finished you.”
“Sheesh, what a nitpicker!” Eren was back in front of her, his fists raised in position.
No matter how rudely she rebuked him, he’d always get back to fight, even teasing her. Always, until he would be too exhausted, and the session would end.
She appreciated that.
Looking back, she could see the precise moments in which she made mistakes in her own form.  This was one of those moments: spending time with Eren to teach him hand-to-hand combat. Her biggest mistake, really—but how could she know it would come back to bite her? Back then, it was lazy entertainment for her; sometimes it would even strike her as something cruel—what would that suicidal blockhead do, even with her refined skills, in front of a 15-meter Titan?
But then, briefly, she even thought: maybe the guy would find some brain by the time he graduated from the Training Corps. He wasn’t brilliant, but he had a lot of resilience (too much, in fact: why didn’t she realize…?), and he learned quickly enough—not to stay still, not to think, but her moves, the ones she could teach him, yes, and although he did not shine, his motivation was enough to place him high in his class ranks. Maybe he would get it, he would place in the first ten and join the Military Police, live a normal life until Marley would get them all.
This, if she managed to succeed in her mission, that is, and with him in the Military Police beside her… better not. What a bother.
But no, he would not survive there anyway. He would have to be able to suck it up and deal with politics, and Eren was too impulsive for that. No matter how much he learned: he would still hit before he gathered enough information on his surroundings to do that successfully.
Couldn’t his friend Armin teach him something?
Couldn’t his dear Mikasa… just wake up, and present him with another option? Fall in love, make babies… live nicely for how long it was left to Paradis.
All done.
But no: Eren Jaeger could never have that. He could never back down. He could never lower his head for a willing beheading, for the force that motivated him, the one that told him to “kill all the Titans” was too strong to even make him reason, much less look around at the people next to him to listen to them. In his rage, he would rather destroy anything rather than make a deal.
He listened only to what he deemed valuable for his goal; he would only succumb to that.
For that, he would listen to Annie, and be slammed to the ground repeatedly by her.
He would kill all the Titans, and with his own hands. No matter how others would think of him as a madman. He would go against all preconceived notions and all societal conventions. He would get to the end of it, or die.
What about Annie, though? Why did she do it?
Every day she thought about her Dad back in Liberio, waiting for her return. She thought of his tears and of his pleading to her. Of his words.
You’re my daughter.
In all her conscious life, she was sure she’d never seen like that. In hindsight, she knew why that broke her. In all her life, she had been convinced to do the things he asked of her for food, or rest, or other mundane privileges, but never for the warmth of a hug. Never for affection.
She wanted that affection so much. So much.
Then why would she wait around, following the misguided orders of Reiner Braun, seeking to complete a mission that was already lost at the beginning of their journey, when they lost Marcel?
Why would she waste her time teaching Eren Jaeger her father’s martial arts?
She knew a simple, rational answer: because she had to silence those thoughts in her head, and her aching, somehow. Because they really had no way to act, at the moment. It was stupid. More stupid than Reiner Braun. So, she had to wait.
But then, she could not ignore the other thing, no matter how she tried to silence that as well, her whole body trembled with it, and in such a different way from the fleeting, uncertain, somewhat rather terrifying way it reacted to the vicinity of that other person she’d rather not think about too frequently about never be it those observant like Sasha or Krista or heavens save me fucking Ymir would notice. (Mina, she didn’t care: she was quiet and respectful.)
No. Getting back on track.
The point was, Eren Jaeger was impulsive, and never thought enough before striking, but trying and trying again, with her telling him to wait! Wait! every time, somehow, he got it. Even the hardest moves, he could learn.
She would then look in disdain at Reiner and Bertholdt who never grasped a sense of what she did when she fought them. Instead, Eren observed. He listened. And he learned.
And it was so satisfying. She could feel her lips turning upwards in contentedness.
So silly. So misguided.
But in that, feeling that, another fleeting thought would get her to ache enough to get back into the tracks.
Would Dad also feel like this, when I learned a new thing that he taught me?
She could not help but feel two contrasting feelings then: fuzziness, and deep discomfort.
For her father’s teachings were only means to violent ends, and so were hers.
And yet, even knowing this, why did she feel pride for them? Why did she feel that they could stand on their own?
Was there another way?
It was not as if she had known anything else other than violence in her life. She could not know.
Did her father know anything else?

Hi! I'm the same Anon who asked about the hypothetical situation of Annie NOT crystalising herself and the other possible set of events occurring. I read your thoughts and I honestly never even thought about another Kenny and Annie reunion and just.. talking, quite interesting! (Not to mention Pam's own idea that they wrote - I like it!) Including another mentioning a fic where Annie sees her Dad as a Titan during the second Colossal Titan attack and.. I may had a pretty devious idea. So, let's say Annie did in some way join the Scouts (or just is betraying the Warriors,) so during the mission to retake Shinganshina and there's the scene where Zeke & the mindless Titan's appear, what if one of those mindless creatures was her Dad? (This next part, I'm somewhat iffy since it really feels I mis-characterised her since I tend to mess up, so my apologies!) I'm not sure HOW it could play out then, maybe Annie in some desperate attempt to hold her Dad down so it's not mauled by Levi or Zeke. Though, one thing is clear, she sees the Colossal Titan going down and realises that in some selfish way.. she could bring her Dad back, it'll be a curse he'll bare too but at least she'll see him. And oh.. That's Armin. Completely charred, yet still breathing. With the Scouts debating whenever to save Erwin or Armin. This is all I have before I genuinely write more nonsense, I appreciate taking your time to answer my previous question. Please, have a lovely day! (AND I'M SO SORRY FOR HOW WORDY THIS IS)
Oohhhh hello again anon! I'm honestly so relieved you saw my answer because you sent me the ask on sept 19th and... I took nearly a month to answer - very sorry T^T But I enjoyed it so much and yes, the variety of thoughts on it have been incredibly interesting!
Some quick things first tho 1. you don't have to apologise for a long-ask, they are genuinely enjoyable xD 2. I don't think there's such a thing as mis-characterization especially when we talk about a completely new what-if scenario because there's soooooo many little things influencing a person's thoughts and actions and the resultant outcomes. So nope, there are only headcanons, they are all valid, and you don't need to worry about anything else :>
Now to your ask!

How dare you now bring THREE contenders for the serum with Annie in the mess? Erwin, I don't see her caring for, but now it's Armin vs. her Dad?
What in the gut-wrenching angst is this, holy shit anon 🥲
But no, genuinely I don't think Annie trying to protect her father from Levi's attacks is out of character for her. That is her DAD. She may have joined the Scouts as you say, but maybe that's because it's her best chance for survival. Betraying the warriors isn't Annie's concern, it's betraying her dad. At any cost, even by joining the scouts, she must return to him.
Only, she probably didn't expect to see him in Paradis, and as a titan no less.
Of course she's abandoning everything else (let's say she doesn't know of Armin's plan) and rushing to protect her father and get him out of the line of fire - perhaps by taking him down in her titan form and dragging him to safety, using her scream to summon other pure titans to whoever is attacking and using the time to do so.
(wait... now I suddenly have the mental picture of Annie and Zeke engaging in a screaming match 🥲)
Her sudden switch in priorities isn't likely to bode well with the others, especially when so much is happening and the Scouts find themselves in a dangerously cornered pinch.
Annie's very good at analyzing a situation and quickly making problem-solving decisions, given two options, she chooses the one in which she has a greater chance of survival (yet sometimes she also willingly walks in to dead ends thanks to her heart, but that's canon). Like leaving Marco on the roof vs saving him, but now..... now we have an extreme situation.
Say she thought immediately crosses her mind - of feeding her father the colossal once she learns it's been taken down. She may not have become attached to Bertholdt as much as she considered him a companion in their mission and someone from home, but he's still... a companion. A fellow warrior.
How do you feed such a person to your father?
And then of course:
That's Armin. Completely charred, yet still breathing.
How do you save your father at the cost of losing the one boy who makes your heart beat faster than the wind?
The one boy you swore you'd protect, as long as you wore the wings of freedom by his side.
The one boy who's looked you in the eyes and said I love you.
Nothing makes sense anymore.

to Me mr leonhart is some kind of SEAsian and everything we learn from eldians in marley about the rest of the world and notions of race and purity is infinitely more interesting than mikasa being related to the shogun (ew); the split second at eren's hearing after trost where they point to mikasa and say "is she even human" is the realest her identity ever gets imo, i do not give a fuck about the azumabitos
mr leonhart and udo's family are damned by eldian blood, but also too distant from the fritz family (mixed) to have had any chance of hiding on paradis a century ago. karina braun has the right idea about selection and abandonment, but her blond ass does Not have it worse than the conditions udo alludes to. if eldia and marley were "white" empires, probably more like rome and britain or tbh britain and spain in terms of rivalry, udo and mr leonhart are doubly Other wherever they are
i imagine RBA being surprised when they met mikasa, idk how known her mother's family/the walldian noble families would be to marley or if that would be relevant to their mission, but i wonder if mikasa reminds annie of her dad sometimes

Parents: Yes, my daughter is completely normal☺️
Daughter: I would love to be the AOT girls’ stripper😤✊
✿ mikasa ackerman, annie leonhart, sasha braus
mikasa
she's flustered and you take a seat on her lap. you were watching her for the whole night, being curious that a young lady decided to visit the club instead of some old creepy men
"what are you doing here?" you ask her, brushing her hair behind her ear. she blushes deeply, "im here with my friends for the bachelor's party." she says. your eyes deepen at her voice, it's so sweet and creamy. you remember that some guys booked you up for the whole night but you didn't expect them to bring a pretty girl with them.
"do you like it here?" you slowly grind your ass against her thighs, making her breath hitch.
she nods her head, setting her hands on your hips. you arch your back, letting out a low hum. a group of boys coming your way ruins your mood but you guess that they are her friends.
"i see your friends are here. come and meet mr by the back door at 11."
annie
she didn't want to go but she knew that hitch wouldn't come back in one piece if she didn't go. but she didn't expect that hitch's place of interest would be a strip club.
annie eyes follow your body on the stage as your hips swing into the music. you know that she's watching because you've been watching her ever since she came into the door. nobody else in this building has more pissed off expression than her. you roll her body closer to her, enjoying how money being thrown at her but she doesn't seem to be enjoying the show. your dance ends and you decide to say a little hi to her.
"hi, you're enjoying yourself?" you ask her with a seductive smile but she just shrugs. you sit down next to her in a booth, trying to start a conversation but she doesn't seem wanting to talk. although you can feel her eyes shifting from your face to your bra and your panties that show more than cover.
"you're not so good at concealing where you're looking." you chuckle, making her blush deeply.
"it's okay, meet me in the back after the next show."
spoiler: she came (both ways)
sasha
you feel free as you dance tonight's shift. friday nights are always your favorite because mainly young students come to the club. your head turns when you see someone waiving at you from their booth. you don't usually do private things but this one is different. this one is a girl and you never got a girl calling you over.
"you're the best here?" the girl asks when you come to her booth. you find her interesting, from her brown hair to the crumbs around her mouth from the chips she's eating.
"my name is sasha," she introduces herself, "and i really need a lapdance."
your give her a raised eyebrow, not really knowing what to say but you gently place yourself on her lap.
"my friend is here with me and he said that im never going to get a lapdance from the best dancer here." she explains herself and you chuckle. you move your hips around her lap, squeaking when she places her hands on your ass.
"i like you," you say with a smirk, "how about we got out out here?"

Assuming Mr Leonhardt's leg healed after the finale, would that be better or worse for Annie and her relationship with him?
I gotta admit it's hard to 100% tell whether his leg has healed or not in the finale, but it looks like it did
I think it can have both positive and negative effects on Annie. For one, that was tangible proof of the one time she could rebel against him and defend herself against his abuse. While his reaction traumatized her more into never doing anything remotely disobedient ever again, it was proof of her past that would stay forever. Especially considering her own body doesn't hold any marks from that time that she can use to validate to herself what she went through
A lot of time, people deny their own childhood abuse because their memories are foggy, so it couldn't have been "that bad" especially with Mr Leonhart's self-redemption.
On the other hand, considering Annie actually believes he'd changed, she'd probably feel guilty leaving him afterwards if he still had the bad leg. Him being fully healed kind of erases her own aggression against him as well, allowing her a better chance of distancing herself with less guilt

Ok this is a bit crazy BUT I was listening to "Before Lights out" which is one of my favorite AOT tracks. I really like this part:
All of my kingdom
For your return
I'd let it all burn!
I'd let it all burn!
Dear departed
I'll cry for you in a dream
Now I must rise to be queen
Be worthy!
Be worthy!
And I asume it's refering to Historia addressing Ymir (Correct me if I'm wrong).
But as I was packing orders tonight and I listened to it, I imagined a scenario in which Annie and Historia's characters are swapped, in which Historia is Marleyan and Annie is Paradisian.
This kinda also ties in with this headcanon where Annie is part of EMA with Eren and Mikasa since they were kids! And Annie befriended them when the two stopped Mr Leonhart from abusing Annie on the street one day.
Annie, just like in canon, is adopted by Mr Leonhart and trained up to become part of the military and basically enhance their family's status within the walls. She's also the main source of income in the house, which means she misses out on a lot of childhood activies until Eren and Mikasa start helping her escape the house from time to time and hang out!
Annie is an orphan, however later on we find out that she was actually the heir to the throne and she had been abandoned because she (let's say?) was kidnapped as a baby. The kidnapper would have used her for ransom, but for whatever reason (maybe remorse?) lost confidence and just abandoned the baby somewhere at the outskirts of the city. (Imagine if this would have been Kenny trying to get some sort of negotiation with the royal family).
In this universe Annie does not have the female titan, and instead maybe it would be Historia who has it. I mentioned Armin having it before, but it would also be interesting if there were 3 warriors+ Armin coming to Paradis, with Armin not having a titan, but being the brain of the operation. Expert in cartography, tactics, strategy etc. Coordinating everyone akin to a musical conductor. I know it would mess with the trio balance, but.... I like the Marleyan Armin + Paradisian Annie dynamic 🙏 so bare with me.
It would be so cool if Historia, the moment she arrived with Berthold, Armin and Reiner to Paradis, would have changed her name and personality to Krista Lenz. Maybe it's a coping mechanism due to trauma, kind of like Reiner's, but I like to think that she may have wanted to escape the life of Liberio and just start a new life somewhere else, no matter how short it would be.
Maybe her dad is just as much of an asshole/important person in Liberio. Maybe he's got lots of money for an Eldian, which gives their family a better standing. But Historia hates the way he looks down on other, less fortunate Eldians. He'd probably be friends with the Tybur family even?
Maybe there was no need for Historia to join the warrior program, other than to prove to herself that she can do things independently from her dad and her priviledged life.
Why not leave Liberio altogether instead? She probably has a fantasy of Paradis having no Eldian prosecution, the same way that Armin and Eren had a dream of peace outside the walls in canon. Maybe she thought that it was indeed, a paradise.
Also Historia, Armin, Reiner and Bertholdt could make a cool team, especially maybe with Reiner always trying to look very strong in front of her and Historia being able to hold on her own, without his help. Bertholdt would pat Reiner on the back whenever he'd fail to impress her. Historia and Armin would be very close and chatty, since she feels comfortable around Armin, which makes Reiner very jealous.
As a side note, Yumihisu still happens, but the story could be that Ymir knows that Historia is hiding her real identity. Maybe Ymir actually remembers seeing the warriors as a titan outside the walls? Or maybe it was getting close to Historia that made her realize that she is also Marleyan. (Little slip ups in their conversations)
Ahh sorry I'm not coherent, not the best at pulling multiple strings together buuuut...
Where I want to go with this is, Aruani slowly happens over time, from Cadet to even later than canon, since when the female titan was captured, it was actually Historia, not Armin. At this point, Armin, Reiner and Bertholdt have to continue even after losing Historia to the crystal.
It becomes harder and harder for Armin to hide the secret they have as he opens up to Annie about more of his life. He almost tells her, until the night he finds out that Annie is the heir to the throne. What can Armin even do in this scenario? Tell her what?
And then to return to the lyrics from "Before Lights out", they could be Annie singing about Armin, who, after being caught together with Bertholdt and Reiner, runs away, leaving Annie's feelings behind, uncertain.
I imagine Annie, if she accepts her new role as a monarch, would be a lot more of an iron fist leader, absolutely no bullshit. She holds a bit of a grudge against Armin for leaving her behind, after opening up to him about her childhood. After being closer to him than anyone else before.
She WOULD literally burn down the whole kingdom to find him, haha.
But yeah, please tell me if this is super stupid, I wanted to get this out of my head since I've been daydreaming about it for a week now. Thanks for reading and I'd love to see what you guys think too! If you have ideas, drop them below!

Why does the main couple of Alice in Borderland have so many similarities with Aruani? LET'S ANALYZE WITH ANÓNIMA
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Similarities between Armin and Arisu:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. They are both extremely intelligent and at first are not able to see their potential, they always depended on their friends to believe in themselves. Examples: When Armin convinced the troops that Eren was not an enemy thanks to Eren and Mikasa's motivation and when Arisu won his first game thanks to Karube telling him that he would get them out of there.
2. Both had survivor syndrome, as a result of these events, in the case of Armin when he received the serum on Erwin and in Arisu's case after overcoming the game of tag. They both have low self-esteem and, in the case of Arisu in that game, he also blames himself for not thinking of a better solution, since logic and strategy was always his strong suit and he desperately wanted to protect his friends, do you think? remember someone?
3. Both go through a period of wanting to die and hating life, they are constantly thinking about sacrifice for the good of others, we see this facet of Arisu more developed in the second season (the game of the king of clubs) while with Armin remains persistent throughout the anime.
4. They have been seen planning strategies with their respective teams, being the ones who organize what will be done next and give the respective orders, they influence others thanks to their great intellect, ability to speak that they develop thanks to the fact that they acquire more confidence in themselves. People listen to them and admire them, they also expect them to be the ones with the answers and they put responsibilities on them that they feel unworthy of most of the time.
Similarities between Usagi and Annie:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
1. They are very reserved girls, they hardly open up to anyone easily, although if you break their shell you can see that they are a teddy bear. This shell is born because they have Daddy issues, Usagi because her negligent father preferred to climb the mountain rather than stay with his daughter, and Annie because Mr. Leonhart's son of a bitch treated her as if she were a weapon.
2. Because of these, the two women believe that the only one they can trust is their father. However, due to the trauma, they both begin to feel more alive when they are away from home, Usagi in Borderland, because she does not have to feel that her father abandoned her, and Annie in Paradise, away from her father's abuse. For both of them, their father in almost the entire series is their reason for being and acting.
3. They are both athletic, again due to the influence of their dads. However, they never leave behind their intelligence or their human senses despite wanting to be lone wolves. Usagi shows great empathy for those around them and despite her traumas and believing that at first she had to be alone to survive, she manages to open up and give life another chance. Annie is shown to be kind in Paradise, saving several comrades she had to betray and in the end, returning to save the world, because atoning for her sins and having a new beginning becomes more important than her father.
4. Both Usagi and Annie are the only ones who manage to motivate Arisu and Armin. Not only do they look for answers in them, but they challenge them and make them rethink things, making their romantic interests grow thanks to that.

Little Bird: Chapter 15 is out on AO3
and it's been for a day or so but... you know >.>
Tumblr media
The next day they left for Fort Salta. The train was scheduled so early in the morning that Annie spent the first hour of the trip dozing lightly against Armin’s shoulder, the kids’ loud voices barely reaching her. She could not fall asleep, however. Her mind went back again to the conversations of the day before. (continue)

Do u think Mr Leonhart will ever do something to Annie again? And if he did how would people react.
Idk why but I can see Annie post cannon trusting her farther again completely, possibly to the point of living with him straight away, and getting hurt. Going to the shared house one day late at night, visibly hurt badly bruised eye. They take her in ask her what happened and she doesn’t say anything.
How would they react if her farther starts shouting at her in front of them? Or even raises his hand at her? Who will be the one to step in front of her, who will she go to when scared?
(Please go into detail I love your writing)
Hello anon! Sorry I've taken a little while to answer :3
I think the question of whether Mr. Leonhardt will "physically" hurt Annie again is one that depends on the facts and circumstances of their relationship post-rumbling. If we assume, as in common interpretation, that Mr. Leonhardt is a changed man after losing Annie for so many years, then it would certainly be blood-curdling if he reverts to using violence on her again. However, not entirely shocking, given his past.
So let's entertain this idea. You know, it may not be that Annie "trusts" her father completely now that they're united, but more that she's so happy to have him alive and return to him at all, considering that was her only (and initial) goal. (Whether what she gets out of this father-daughter relationship actually makes her happy is a whole other matter). This could see her not expecting to be at the receiving end of his anger and physical rage anymore - so when it happens, she takes the full blow, caught unaware and too shocked to block him out of fear that she'll hurt him again like she hurt his knee.
Because he's her father and they're both alive - she can't possibly do anything to hurt him anymore.
Although, abusive parental relationships are quite hard to get out of; they tend to keep a vice grip on you because of that very aspect of it - it's a parental relationship. A parent. Your very own parent. Not just anybody, your parent.
Although, when shit hits the fan and it happens that the others witness Annie either being physically hurt, or returning home carrying the signs of it, or being yelled at with shaking fists - it's not going to be pleasant.
See, post-canon Annie lives with a family of five, not including her father. These are Armin, Pieck, Reiner, Jean and Connie, the latter four of whom grow to see Annie as a sister-figure, however much she scowls at them. I like to think the Alliance six are fiercely protective of one another.
For them to see someone like Annie, who they knew in the past for being fearsome, strong and unyielding, actively letting herself get hurt and beaten and injured... by the hands of somebody she only wanted to seek some love from...
Guaranteed, there's not a person that won't see red.
As for who will step to shield her from incoming attacks, I think Reiner or Jean (or both). They have good reflexes, both capable of overpowering any man, even if that man is just crippled, like Mr. Leonhardt now. Not to say Armin can't overpower him. Just that I don't see him being the one to push back; he's more likely to rush to Annie's aid along with Pieck & Connie.
Pieck is the one to take Annie in and help her out of her clothes and into clean pyjamas or big, loose shirts. She'll help her wash her face and hold ice to her swollen cheek.
And lastly, Armin will be the one to put his gentle hands over a decade's worth of trauma and pain, being Annie's rock henceforth, going to work in pulling out the needles stuck all over her body and replacing them with soft, red, threads soaked with his love.
