MAWE // Uganda // Malcolm Bigyemano MAWE (Ignorance Is Bliss Or Something Like That) is an exclamation in Rutooro that shows shock or surprise, but is also the story of two Ugandan women who, over the course of a single life-changing conversation, one afternoon explore the possibility that there are certain things they would rather get through life without knowing, and that their friendship may not survive. Director: Malcolm Bigyemano Year: 2018 Genre: Comedy Runtime: 22 mins 22 secs Malcolm Bigyemano is an award winning film-maker (just the one, but who’s counting), graphic designer and dancehall artist also known as Mr. Mankwa. Having graduated from the University of Cape Town with a Bachelor of Arts in Film Production at the end of 2014, Malcolm Bigyemano returned home to Uganda and explored a short career in advertising as a copywriter. Then he stopped lying to himself and quit to make films independently. He has since written and directed three short films; a drama called Pregnant Woman Stabs Husband Dead, Jethro x Jethro, a meta-comedy about failed pitches and Mawe!
