LONDON ~ 🏨 😁 MOXY 😁 🏨 Newham and Tower Hamlets Exploring and revisiting parts of London is a passion within me that will never fade. Yesterday a glorious warm, sunny day at 63 degrees fahrenheit, I headed towards unexplored territory. The borough of Newham accessed by travelling on Docklands Light Railway (DLR). Some of the names of the DLR stops are intriguing: - Prince Regent, Royal Albert, Pudding Mill Lane, Pontoon Dock, East India. I alighted at Royal Albert The first thing that hits you on arrival is fresh air. Then the vastness of the area and its close proximity to the River Thames. London Regatta Centre is a two minute walk from Royal Albert station. A rowing club is based there, a superb passtime for youths. lyrowing.tumblr.com Also a chinese restaurant with lovely views of the river. Their web address is: - yi-ban.co.uk Adjacent from the Regatta Centre there are a few hotels. The one that captured my curiousity was the one with the name I had not heard of before Moxy. I popped in to have an afternoon coffee ☕️. Moxy, I was told by a member of the team, is a new brand of hotel by Marriott. Aimed at the 23-37 year old market the Y Generation and the young at heart (the latter being the category I fall under). The concept of Moxy is for the team to interact and play with the guests throughout their stay. That's how I was treated, even though they knew I was only exploring the area and not booking into the hotel. The lady who served me the coffee explained the concept, while chatting away with me. My first reaction was concern that other guests might need assistance while she was chatting to me. It was reitereated to me that other members of the team will assist the other guests. The lady was a keen photographer and acutally an extremely good one. Her composition was excellent using only her smart phone. I was also offered a tour of the ground floor. Around five members of the team interacted with me while I was there. All of which were lovely professional, interesting individuals in their own right. Bearing in mind, I only popped in for a coffee. The top photograph, I don't go along with "What not to do at Moxy: Get out of bed" ha, ha, because from the moment you leave your room in the morning until you hit your pillow at night you will have a relaxing, chilled fun time at Moxy. Next "Unplug" a great idea to switch off media for most of the time during your stay to unwind. If you sit where the sign is you won't hear a sound, very clever, in a public area. The bright colourful lockers were hand painted by the team at Moxy. Note the locker where they all signed their names. We all know when it is time to book into Moxy when you start feeling like telling people to "Ohh...shut up" or worse. I love the red shoe on the ladies restroom door, a little piece of quirkiness. The DLR train passing by is directly across the road from Moxy with Yi-Ban restaurant in the background. The ground floor of the hotel is divided into roughly five open plan sections. Upon entering you arrive at the oblong bar area serving cocktails, wine, beers, etc. Along with teas and coffees, soft drinks a host of confectionery and snacks. This area is open 24/7. Along the lefthand side walls you will find well stocked wines, drinks and snacks. The cutest thing, in a little alcove, they have a crock pot with a blackboard against one of the walls advertising in chalk the curry or dish of the day. So once you have had a few drinks in the evening or over a weekend and you begin to feel peckish you can have a nice bowl of whatever is in the crock pot along with a lovely glass of wine, beer or whatever drink you like. Near the bar area you will find a record player, a long wooden table with drawing equipment, and guests hanging out on their laptops. A football games table is close by too. Then there is a lovely section by the windows facing out filled with long sofa's, tables and highbacked comfy chairs. An ultra modern real fire place and a giant sized multi media screen. This is a quieter area where you can sit and have a nice drink with a hot meal from the crock pot, microwave or a cold snack. Play with one of the guitars, chat or simply sit and relax. Beyond there towards the back of the hotel is a wall filled with toys, records, books, games even funky shoes to try on. Also computers and a printer. Everything here is for the guests to use during their stay. When I was given the tour, I was told the team played frisbee with the guests the day before. What a truly exciting fun environment for employees to work in. I am certain they all jump out of bed in the morning to get to work where they know their day won't be the slightest bit boring. I found all the team were very professional too. All in all a remarkable combination and makes for a great stay for guests. There is an endless list of reasons why staying or visiting the Moxy would be great. You can walk to London City Airport from there in less than half a mile. For an extensive list of the places close by check out Moxy London Excel at Booking.com Moxy's address is 1014 Dockside Road, London E16 2FQ and their website is www.moxyhotels.com It woud be a fabulous venue to host your 16, 18 or 21 year old's party. They would be sure to have a blast. Also very child friendly. A great place for all ages to go for a great day/evening out, for an overnight stay to or from the airport, or simply a lovely weekend away or a longer holiday. Later I went to Canary Wharf to do some light shopping. Canary Wharf is less than two miles from Moxy hotel. Situated in the borough of Tower Hamlet. So much more exploring to do in these areas I will be returning again and again. London's Floating Village is being developed by Carillion Igloo Genesis near Royal Victoria Dock. A thriving community of homes, shops, restaurants, bars and cafes all floating on linked pontoons. How incredibly exciting is that! This project is based on a similiar project in Ijburg in the Netherlands. Moxy team, if you read this, I will be back soon. 😊
