Medieval aqueduct that used to take water to Morella, the walled city visible on the hill at the back of the image, located in the Valencian Country. The Morella aqueducts were built in the 13th and 14th centuries. Parts of the aqueduct were used to bring water for watering the fields until the 1960s.

Morella (Castelló, Valencian Country).

This place has been inhabited without interruption since the 3rd millennium BC. Archaeological remains have been found in the mountaintop from the Neolithic, Bronze Age, Iron Age, and the Ancient Iberian culture. Under Roman occupation, they started building the castle in this location, which grew under Visigoth rule. It was during the Islamic period, after the Christian feudal conquest (1300s) and during the Early Modern wars that the walls we see nowadays were built, using the natural rock.

Morella is a small town in the mountains of a very rural area, far away from the main cities. But because of this impregnable castle and its location in the route that connects the interior of the Kingdom of Valencia, Catalonia and Aragon with the Mediterranean sea, it has been an important enclave for many wars throughout the centuries.
