I'm gonna speak on this a bit here too, because personally, I have a toe dipped in both sides of this argument (for very real and personal reasons). irl, me as a person, i did not want children. for a LONG list of reasons i won't go into here, I ended up having three. I love them. I was not ready for them, and I think I would have been just fine without them.
I say this because I UNDERSTAND how big of a responsibility it is to care for a human that requires constant care and attention, and how soul-sucking it is to constantly be reminded of how much I DIDN'T want that for myself. HAVING KIDS IS NOT FOR EVERYONE, nor should that be vilified! ONE DOES NOT NEED TO HAVE CHILDREN TO BE HAPPY! CHILDREN DO NOT EQUAL HAPPINESS FOR EVERYONE! THIS IS OKAY! All that being said, if Gale were real, and appeared in my bedroom right this very fucking minute, I would DUST OFF THE COBWEBS of my failing reproductive system if he so much as gave me the puppy eyes. (yes, I'm pathetic. leave me to my delusions, thank you). But, if he said 'babe, bestie...Mira my beloved, let's go on an adventure because kids are eww' YES MY SWEET MALEWIFE I will abandon all reason and logic and go to the ends of the earth with you.
But also, y'all??? Gale is a fictional character, and I am of the belief that the conversation we ALL know we are thinking of was INTENTIONALLY left open-ended for our head canons to happily chew on. It's that simple. Leave people alone to enjoy the characters in the way they fucking desire. Canon or not. Who tf cares. If you don't like it? Shrug your damn shoulders, take a GODS DAMN BREATH, and SCROLL ON.
And OP, I am so sorry you have been made to feel like they way you interact with Gale has to be pushed aside for other people's comfort.
PLEASE, please, share more. I know I speak for others when I say we want to see more queer and/or childfree Gale content. I have seen so many in this fandom express their sadness that they don't feel represented. That's not ok. If childfree and queer Gale content brings you joy, please share it. Share your joy. tell the world why he means so much to you. This random ass noob of a tumblr user wants to see you happy.
So I am going to make a post about it because despite my best attempts I still get some very aggressively worded posts about dad!Gale stuff on my timeline I truly don't believe that people who maintain Gale's stance as childfree as having canonical proof are inherently trying to put down or threaten those who have dad!Gale headcanons. Speaking as a minority in this fandom, as a gay man, and also as someone who is infertile I have found a lot of resonance and affirmation through the character of Gale and so I find personal enjoyment and empowerment to help deal with a homophobic and cishet normative world that pushes the idea of having children as a necessity for love and happiness by maintaining that my Tav's and Gale are childfree. I don't have any issue with anyone who loves the dad!Gale headcanon, go wild and free with it but people who are finding affirmation, joy, and fulfillment from him being childfree are just simply not a threat to your personal headcanon and tbh I often feel very guilty posting some of my headcanons and posts that are both explicitly queer about Gale and also about this childfree stuff because of how aggressive some posts are against Gale being childfree
I just also wanna say there's no less love or fulfillment for people that are childfree and that Gale can be equally as happy with or without children and that if anyone is bullying anyone for either of this then they need to go outside and touch grass. I am just simply asking the fandom to consider being a little more inclusive of different perspectives and people, especially to queer people who love Gale who can often feel pretty left out
