So its the beginning of 2023 and I was thinking that I haven't done a "UtaPri Q" thing in a while but ,where as sometimes I can try to predict the questions someone would ask ME and then I would try to answer it the best I could, this time I'm going to ask YOU some questions and I want your best guesses (because we can't predict Broccoli at all even when I genuinely try). Not all of these questions are about THIS YEAR per se but rather in general so give me your best answers as there is no right or wrong to these ready 1. When will the next "stage show" be? 2. What will the next Animated Project be and what will its release date be? 3. (This one is specific to this year) Does "Dolce Vita" finally get a release date at the next Anniversary? 4. (Again specific to this year) Will Broccoli announce more than 1 CD Project for HEAVENS this year? 5. (Yes or No) A "Reboot" of the UtaPri Project will be Announced (if yes what year?) 6. Will Crunchyroll get back the UtaPri series within the next 5 years? 7. Will Shining Live completely shutdown within the next 3 years or will another company take it over (Bandai Namco ,Happy Elements ,Coly etc.) 8. Within the next 3 years will another Western Anime Distributor try to acquire the license for the series? 9. When Dolce Vita eventually does release do you see an English version (or fans making an English patch for it)? 10. Do you see KLab surviving the backlash for the shutdown of the Global Server of Shining Live? 11. Do you see UtaPri making it to the 20th Anniversary? YEP 11 Questions...these were some I was thinking about for a while but I wanted to put to you properly. Listen his top priority is you. He wants to make YOU happy as much as possible, it's just, he's very opinionated and strong minded so arguments do tend to happen and escalate sometimes. Like actually a lot of times. 

Babies: fur baby, scaly baby, or no baby?

Scaly baby! He'd totally get a lizard of some sort like a bearded dragon. Theyre cool, don't shed, and don't talk back. 

Cocktails: are they extroverted? Introverted? Both? With their s/o? 

Introverted with an extroverted streak. Outside of HEAVENS, he's actually more chill and likes to keep to himself, but he's still super outgoing when he meets new people. Makes you think you know shit about him when in reality, you don't. Doesn't change with a s/o.

Dance: would they encourage their s/o to join the industry? How would they take it if they did?

Eh. He doesnt want you to join mainly because he wants to keep you to himself, but of course he cant dictate your life. Or so you think. Manipulates you into thinking the idol life isnt for you and that's that. 

Exit: Do they like to travel? Where would they want to go? 

Likes to travel to places with history and lots of diversity. China, Tibet, or the Czech Republic are on his travel destination list; all experiences he'd like to share with you. 

Food: what's their favorite date with their s/o?

The ones where they go all out. Super extravagant outfits, high class dinners, private booths, and expensive champagne. 

Grease: what's something special they made for their s/o? 

A photo book of their adventures together. He still adds to it every time they go travel or something fun happens. It's nice to open it every once in a while and find new pages. 

Honesty: would they ever hide something from their s/o? 

He will never show them how weak he feels inside. Of course, once you know him, it kind of becomes obvious, but he will never admit how much his father and failure scare him. 

Independence: what type of lover are they? Clingy or carefree? 

Carefree only because he wants YOU to stick to HIM not the other way around. Doesn't mean he won't hold you any chance he gets. 

Jealous: are they a jealous person?

Oh yes definitely. Has scared off many potential suitors with his weird grin and creepy comments. Don't mess with what's eiichi's.  

Kindness: how far would they go for their s/o? Ride or die kind of thing?

I could honestly see him go borderline Yandere and maybe even a little past that. Once you're his, you're his for life, whether you see it too or not. 

Love: what's their love type? 

Physical touch and words of affirmation. He knows what his touches can do to you and how to tune his voice just right to have you shaking beneath him. But of course he also uses these for soft moments where he tells you how lucky he is to have an angel like you by his side. 

Mouth: where's their favorite place to kiss?

Behind the ear. It's so easy to reach for him, but also he has perfect access to whisper to you anything he wants you to know.

No: anything they wouldnt do with or for their s/o? 

Anything that puts his family or HEAVENS in harm's way. But then again, if you stick around long enough, you are kind of family too and he would do anything for his family. 

Odor: what's their favorite scent? On a s/o?

Jasmine or Carribean Teakwood. He thinks theyre both very feminine and represent a sense of adventure. 

PDA: how open are they to PDA 

Contrary to popular belief, he's only open to it when he feels threatened and needs to show off his dominance. Other than that, he's just holding your hand. 

Questions: will they be an open book or not? 

No. Even if youve been together for years, theres still things he keeps from you becayse he feels like he can handle them better by himself. 

Reserved: what's something that only his s/o would know about? 

If and when he opens up, all his worries come to you. Maybe it's because HEAVENS just isnt ready for that next show, or he feels like a failure. Maybe it's Eiji he worries about, or that Raging is losing too much money. 

Serious: how long until they start to get really serious with their s/o? 

It's a game to him until it's not. Of course he's in love with you but how far is he in? He won't know until he starts to think about the future one day and you just happen to be in every picture his mind comes up with.

Type: what's their type in a s/o ? 

Someone more submissive and in a sense, feminine. Someone who challenges him, but respects him all the same. Someone who listens and gives great advice; definitely the type of person to calm him and welcome him with love and acceptance.

Untouched: have they been in a relationship before? How many? 

He's had a few flings here and there, but none that lasted because he quite honestly got bored and didn't see the future with them. 

Very: what's something they're really good at outside of music? 

Car Racing! They confirmed it a couple years ago and he just loves the sport. Is super good at it too! He just cant do it too much because his father is scared he's gonna get hurt and ruins the face of HEAVENS. 

Weird: what's something odd or weird about them?

Sometimes he has staring contests out of the blue. Official utapri confirmed that as children, Eiji and him had staring contests, and it kind of carried into his adulthood. He will just start staring at you. 

Xylophone: their favorite part about you? Physically? Mentally? 

Physically its your legs. Eiichi likes thick thighs leading to a nice booty, mkay? Appreciates the jiggle. Mentally it's your tendency to always be there. Youre most likely a very loving person he really needs that in his life. 

Yearning: would they like a family? How many kids? 

He would love to get married at some point and start his own family. He would be a super cool dad and an even more loving husband. 

Zebra: Do they change throughout their relationship? Are they truly themselves?

He may become more open. As mentioned above, i dont think his s/o will ever fully know EVERYTHING, but he does open up a lot more and becomes comfortable.

AGF stands for “Animate Girls Festival”~! It’s basically kind of like a giant convention that happens around November yearly! The main demographic of the event are largely women but boys attend it as well. The main showcases/franchises that are featured in AGF are mostly the joshi-muke kinds of games like idol games, mobage, otome games, etc. (Things like Ensemble Stars, UtaPri, idolish7, HypMic, TsukiPro, etc.)

TsukiPro (and some other franchises) do a theme for AGF every year! The first one I remember for TsukiPro is the Tsukino Empire one, then Origin. Last year’s was Machine Elements and this year will be Tsukihana Kagura!

Now, these things are kind of like AUs in a sense but the more correct term would be “plays/stage plays”. TsukiPro calls them “エアー舞台/air butai/air plays” because they’re not really performed on stage physically. But! They do answer questions about the theme via Q&A panels done by the creators ^^

Most of the time, the world, the lore, the characters’ backgrounds, and the like are all just showed on a pamphlet they distribute for AGF! (These are the ones that we translate ^^)

TsukiPro’s AGF themes vary greatly every year! Here’s a basic run-down on what they are ^^ The cast of characters also get added to for every year, with the constant cast being Tsukiuta, SQ, and ALIVE~! 

“Tsukino Empire” was fantasy military. [Tsukiuta + SQ and ALIVE]

“Origin” was dark and light themed (kind of like, a demon/angel AU).[Tsukiuta + SQ + ALIVE + Swiiiiiits! + Algeki Leaders]

“Machine Elements” is steampunk! [Tsukiuta + SQ + ALIVE + VAZZROCK + Swiiiiiiits!]

“TsukiHana Kagura” is traditional fantasy Japan ^^ [Tsukiuta Boys and Girls + SQ + ALIVE + VAZZROCK + infinit0 + Gekidan Altair]

Top 10 Anime of the Decade (incl. Winter Anime 2020)

Minna-san, akemashiteomedetōgozaimasu (Happy New Year)! It’s been awhile...sorry T^T. Life has been absolutely INSANE since the last time I posted, which was...omg September. OwO I honestly did not watch a lot of anime because real life has been so crazy. BUT that doesn’t mean I didn’t watch ANY anime. 

I was originally just going to post my annual Winter Anime Season post but after watching Joey: The Anime Man’s “The ULTIMATE Top 10 Anime of the Decade List” (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mqY25glHPxE) I wanted to look back and reflect on some of my favorite anime of the decade and share them with you guys as well. Like Joey I will also include some honorable mentions in the list. Without further ado, here are some of my favorite anime from this decade:

2010

Durarara!!

This was one of the first few shows that @perfectlynorm first recommended for me to watch when he and I reconnected back in 2015. I didn’t watch this show back when it first aired, but I really wish I did. The storytelling really stood out to me and I loved how all of the characters’ stories interconnected with each other. The seasons that came out later in 2015-2016 were great as well, but this first season was by far the best. 

Honorable Mentions:

- Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! (still one of the best romance/comedy anime to this day...I NEED A SEASON 2!!!)

- Shugo Chara (technically it aired years before 2010 but it’s one of the first few shows I got into during that year)

- Kimi ni Todoke (a slow burner but it’s still one of the few romance anime I go back to from time to time)

2011

Fate/Zero

Again, this is another show that @perfectlynorm recommended back when I really started to become the filthy weeb that I still am. This was also the first show that introduced me to the greatness of ufotable’s animation. Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works was amazing, but this show really blew my mind. The animation, the story, and the characters were top tier amongst the shows I watched at the time. This is a show I could recommend to new anime fans. 

Honorable Mentions:

- Uta no Prince-sama: Maji Love 1000% (this show unlocked my love for idol anime, a very memorable part of my teenage years)

- Sekaiichi Hatsukoi (still one of the best Boys Love/Yaoi anime I’ve ever watched...still waiting for the day he officially falls in love with him ugh)

- No.6 (another @perfectlynorm​ recommendation...that ending still hurts T^T)

2012

Kuroko no Basket

One of my male high school friends recommended this to me...I wonder if he new that he was cursing me at the time. This show was my introduction to the sports genre in anime. To this day, this show is still one of my favorite sports anime. Yes, looking back on it now parts of this show are extremely unrealistic and is mainly loved by fujoshis, but if I were to introduce any new anime fan to the sports genre, this would be the first show on my recommendation list. 

Honorable Mentions:

- Magi: The Labyrinth of Magic (I started this show for the voice actors, I stayed for the story and characters, 10/10 would watch again)

- Sukitte Ii na yo. (another great romance anime that really builds the relationship between the two main couple...without holding out the kiss until the last episode)

- Kamisama Hajimemashita (loved the anime and the manga...I was sad to see it end and that the anime was rushed, but it’s another romance anime I could watch again)

However, when I first watched this...I pretty much binged the entire first season within a week. I still remember the thrill and heart-pounding excitement I felt from watching each episode. I still have a lot of episodes to catch up on before the FINAL season (omg) comes out next fall, but I am excited nonetheless.

At this time of my life, I just graduated from high school and was about to start the next big chapter of my life: college. This show really spoke to me back then because, like the characters, I was scared and uneasy for what happens after high school. I especially related to Haru’s uncertainty for the future and unwillingness to change. But as I followed his journey throughout the season I eventually felt ready to take the next step towards my future along with him. 

Honorable Mentions:

- Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun (I DIED while watching this show, it provided so many laughs that I would recommend this to anyone)

- Akatsuki no Yona (love, love, love Yona and her harem of strong ikemen...I still feel proud that @lunastories​ absolutely FELL for this show)

- Haikyuu!! (one of the best sports anime EVER...I’m so so sad it’s ending soon)

2015

Kuroko no Basket 3

It was very difficult to choose a favorite anime for this year, but when I thought about what show I felt the most emotions from start to finish, I picked the final season of KnB. I was reading the manga while it was still being serialized so nothing in the show came as a surprise plot-wise, but to watch this show from the very beginning to the very end made me very emotional...until Last Game became a thing (god it still hurts T^T).

- Ore Monogatari! (this has to be my FAVORITE romance anime, it broke so many romance anime stereotypes and i could watch it again and again)

- Haikyuu!! 2 (it’s haikyuu, nuff said)

- One Punch Man (still haven’t watched season 2, but omg I LOVED season 1, I still remember how much my friends and I laughed for each episode)

2016

Yuri!!! on Ice

*deep breaths* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH ok. This show, as embarrassing as it is to admit, MADE 2016 for me. Like so many fujoshis and fudanshis, I ate this show up and awaited week after week for each new episode to air. I know there are so many criticisms about this show, but f**k the haters. For me, and for others, this show changed what anime could do: normalize a same sex couple without fetishizing it.

- ERASED (a GREAT mystery anime, that brings a lot of feels and thrills 10/10)

2017

Boku no Hero Academia 2

I picked up the first season of this series before the summer 2017 anime season because of all the hype about it, and omg I was so excited for the second season. I eventually got all of my anime friends to watch it and they got so into it that we would do our first group cosplay together for the show at AX a year later. This show really made 2017 for me and I am very happy it is still so loved to this day...now I just need to start season 4 hehehe. 

Honorable Mentions:

- Hitorijime My Hero (one of my fav Boys Love/Yaoi anime cuz the main couple does not bang for every episode and actually TALK lol)

- Tsuki ga Kirei (a romance anime that i think accurately portrays an awkward, but sweet middle school romance)

- Recovery of an MMO Junkie (another fav romance anime, the main couple are absolute cinnamon rolls please please watch it)

2018

Banana Fish

The ending of this show still breaks my heart, but this show was a huge part of 2018 for me. At first, the show’s brutal and violent themes startled me and prevented me from watching it when it first aired, but when @perfectlynorm​ convinced @passionateflame​ and I to watch this after AX 2018, I was blessed and cursed at the same time. Ash and Eiji’s strong emotional connection was what warmed and broke my heart at the same time. Rest in peace...my heart.

Honorable Mentions:

- IDOLISH7 (an idol anime that beats UtaPri to death...excited for season 2 in 2020!!!)

- Gakuen Babysitters (not only gives me endless amounts of feels and warm fuzzies, but also reminds me why i love working with kids)

2019

Fruits Basket

Although 2019 was probably the year I watched the least amount of anime, Fruits Basket was my favorite anime of the year. It was hard to pick my favorite and to narrow down the honorable mentions, but this anime was my most anticipated show of the year. I had high expectations going into it since the original anime was a huge part of my teen years, and I was definitely not disappointed. I’m so excited for the upcoming second season in 2020!!!

Honorable Mentions:

- Dororo (one of the great surprises of 2019, 10/10 would watch again)

- Demon Slayer (jumped on the bandwagon after AX and OMG I’m so glad I did)

I do not think my taste in anime has changed too much over the years, but within this past year I have come to be genuinely and pleasantly surprised over anime that I never would have picked up 10 years ago. So I guess I want to approach anime with a more open mind in 2020. 

I only plan to watch Haikyuu for this winter season because I am going to be busy with student teaching and finishing off my last semester in the teacher credential program at my school. But things might change...

QUARTET NIGHT LIVE 2018 FLY TO THE FUTURE DAY 1 REPORT + DAY 2 HIGHLIGHTS

NOTE: this was NOT written by me, I DID NOT attend QN Live 2018 (as much as I wanted to). Someone on Weibo attended and I’m translating their posts. This is Day 1′s report. I also embedded links of Twitter fanart for some parts whenever I could.

Maeno: “usually we can’t have a 4-person rehearsal, we’re always missing someone”

Morishow: “that guy with the colour red was the earliest to begin rehearsal” (T/N: according to fans, Tattsun began rehearsing in September)

Maeno said he was really surprised to hear how early Tattsun began rehearsing

Shoutan-Tattsun talk (same link as above)

Tattsun: “I often end up practicing with Shouta, and he looks more and more like a girl to me - his feminine power is too damn high xD”

Shoutan did a dance move of putting his hand on his waist (apparently in a feminine way?). Tattsun tried to learn it live, totally failed and was like “how did this guy do it orz”

Shoutan smiled shyly (?)

Shoutan: “Tatsu-nii always says ‘let’s stop practicing here’ but always says ‘let’s do it once more’ and ends up practicing for a long time”

Tattsun: “it was no fun practicing songs on my own, so Shouta came over and said ‘why don’t we do QN songs’. Shouta often comes up with ideas like this, and is always supporting the 3 of us like this”

Tattsun is very grateful to Shoutan for showing him how fun it is to sing with others (T/N: is this real-life Ranmaru?!), although he sings a lot on his own, he’s really happy to sing with Shoutan.

At first Tattsun wanted to let Shoutan lead the song and he would support him, but it turned out Shoutan had the same idea lol. The two of them do their best in supporting each other~

The two of them end off with bowing towards the audience and whispering “thank you very much”

OP noted that the atmosphere was like a newly-married couple roflmao

Talk ends, Haruhana performance

They sat and sang with gentle swaying, but their singing was no less powerful.

When they sang “Ah…夜風がロンリネス締め付けて” they stared at each other soulfully. At the refrain, they stared at each other as they sang “声へと･･･歌へと”, and then suddenly the music stopped, the penlights were turned off. The two of them stopped singing, looked at each other and the whole hall was silent for a few moments. Then the two of them took a deep breath together and sang “Ah…夜風がロンリネス締め付けて”.

Be Proud

Tattsun’s first solo. As usual he carried (?) the whole performance by himself.

He walked from the doors that open at the middle of the stage (T/N: sorry, I don’t know what that’s called) and slowly walked towards the middle of the stage to sing. They sprayed dry ice too.

When he sang the second part, Tattsun went up the stairs, knelt down and used all his strength to sing “最愛なんて言葉だけでは･･･ 尽きる日まで”. The LED screen was showing red mist and stars, all the penlights turned red, and the onstage dry ice was colored red by the stage lights too.

OP noted that the sound quality this time round was better, probably because it was indoors (6th Stage was outdoors).

The last line Tattsun dragged the last note for a really long time, before pumping his fist with his mic up. The whole hall erupted into applause.

Not Bad

Ranmaru’s 2nd solo. the stage had pyro effects and backup dancers. Tattsun was singing, dancing and manipulating the pyrotechnic effects - when he raised his left hand, the left side of the stage spewed fire, and the same for his right hand and the right side of the stage.

The dancers were originally standing in a line, before quickly splitting into two, and Tattsun walked like a boss from between them towards the centre of the stage. The dance at the centre was really hype, with the fire - “(the atmosphere) was super high” accordingly to OP.

Non-Fiction (same link as above)

OP thinks that the best choreographed performance of the live was actually Non-Fiction though. 

Tattsun was sitting on the sofa like a boss, while Maeno sat on the other side elegantly, with a noble air. Apparently the two of them sang with angry expressions throughout the song LMAO (T/N: something like this, 2nd pic), and on the second half of the song they went to the stage centre. 

They were surrounded by black-clad dancers who danced smoothly, while the two of them had rougher (?) movements. The changes in the dance followed the changes in the song, and the beat was good. OP thought it was a high-quality performance.

Synchronism (lmao, the only non-Ranmaru song the OP wrote about)

According to OP Shoutan was super adorable hahahah

When he sang Synchronism, Shoutan had a hoodie lined with purple fur, complete with animal ears. (Here’s another visual.) He winked as he sang, blew kisses towards the audience (T/N: did Reiji teach you this lol), put the hoodie up and used his hands to make the ears move, with his eyes wide open and looking pitiful… (T/N: this boy is out to kill orz)

OP says they want to raise a Shoutan LOL

Final Thoughts

Tattsun:

“I’m the voice of Kurosaki Ranmaru, Suzuki Tatsuhisa. That guy (Ran) at first didn’t care about band and idol, and I wanted to tell him to focus on being an idol and leave the band part to me (the audience laughed at this point). Since he chose to be an idol, I was thinking if it was possible to do more, to do better. Previously I felt that no matter how much I practiced it wasn’t good enough, I kept feeling that today was a really scary day. Before you guys (the audience) sat here, we were practicing on this stage, and I was thinking ‘how can I do this better for everyone’. Even until now, I still feel uneasy. I want to take this chance to express my feelings and thoughts to the audience and live-viewing audience.”

“When I like a work, I like every aspect of it! I like every character, every cast member, and every staff. Every one of them deserves respect, including the staff who have been supporting us all along, the fans who couldn’t make it today, everyone at live-viewing, and of course all of you seated here right now. I’m really happy to be able to stand here as Ranmaru. Thank you everyone!”

Maeno:

“I am in charge of Camus’ voice, Maeno Tomoaki. Usually at live stages like this, I try to speak as Camus, but today I would like to speak a few words as myself, please forgive me. I entered this franchise with no experience at all (T/N: I believe he’s referring to his lack of singing career compared to the other three), really none at all. But after meeting these 3, I think that I’ve been slowly changing. It’s really a great thing to have met them. Hopefully, there are more chances in the future for me to continue playing Camus, and I won’t stop chasing after Camus’ shadow. Whether it’s Starish, Heavens or Quartet Night, I hope everyone can continue to support them.”

Morishow:

Morishow mentioned at the end of the concert that having met and performed with Starish and Heavens at Utapri 6th Stage, he got the strong impression that Quartet Night too needs to keep changing and revolutionising, so he wanted to let everyone witness a different, new side to Quartet Night today.

He also said that it’s thanks to everyone’s support that Quartet Night was able to continue from 2013 to last year’s solo live, and to today, and that he’s grateful to everyone’s support.

At the centre of the stage, Morishow said there was no need to use mics, and the 4 of them raised their hands towards everyone and shouted “thank you”.

Final moment: After thanking everyone, they went back to the centre of the stage, discussed a little and shouted together “Utapri, arigatou”.

C3 AFA SG18 - Thoughts

Before I knew it, a week has passed... Still, here are my thoughts on Anime Festival Asia Singapore this year!

I think I enjoyed this year's events a lot more! I couldn't go first thing in the morning for Day 1 and Day 2, but I got most of the mercs I wanted. It's a shame that all of the Midnight Cinderella stuff were sold out by the time I got there, aside from the chara buttons, but I managed to get Luka and Jonah and Yamada Shiro-sensei's postcard!! :']

Merchandise aside, I lined up for Hiroto-san's Cheki Photo Time and Autograph sessions for Day 2 and Day 3~ I still don't have the courage for the Kabedon sessions; it was fun watching from the sidelines tho hahaha (smol Nobunaga was so cute wwww). The panel talk was also interesting, hearing Hiroto's opinions and more about the games too (I can't wait for IkeVamp next year!!!). Hiroto-san was also very accommodating with photo-taking after the talk, which I felt a bit bad about since he mentioned earlier on the stage that he was feeling unwell and the queue behind me was getting longer and longer;;; And he still had a video recording after that! (Link) Major props to him for his constant patience and friendliness ;u;

Thank you CYBIRD for coming to AFA Singapore again this year!! I hope to see 'em at Singapore again next year too :D

The other booths were also fun to visit and browse through! There was usually a DJ jamming anime songs at the stage (Jojo, Tokyo Ghoul, Kurobasu, UtaPri, just to name a few I recognised), so the place was quite lively! Opposite of cybird's booth is Helix Waltz, which gave out some nice freebies; their mobile game is very similar to Nikki and Romantic Diary tho.

This year, Fate Grand Order seems to be the hype, there were tons of Fate merch at lots of booths and at the Creators Hub too (more on that below). There were also other figurines on display, like Q Posket's Harry Potter & DC & Disney heroines, Kamen Raider, One Piece, and so on~ I spotted quite a lot of Rem figurines for sale too wwww

Poputepipikku had a corner with manga panels on the wall and floor and its outer walls were filled with fan-made drawings, most of which were gold hahaha XD Sword Art Online got a booth area too, but what's most interesting was this wall of sticker votes:

Who did these? WHO DID THESE??!?! Thank you whoever stuck those stickers on the faces and spelled out "Saber" on Alice, gave me a good chuckle on the spot :'D

And finally, the Creators Hub was really fun to visit, if a bit crowded understatement :'D I'm not really into the Fate series - just watched Zero, some Prisma Illya, and planning-to-watch Unlimited Blade Works... okay, I'm not really into the series but I do have some favourites I was looking out for like Okita, Merlin, Arthur, Jeanne, etc; I got a really nice Merlin postcard from this area ♡

I was mostly at the Creators Hub to browse the fantastic artworks and scour for Touken Ranbu, DrakenNier, MysMes & original stuff (and Pokemon too if it struck my fancy)~ I've only recently got into the DrakenNier series so there weren't a lot of it this year - iirc there were tons of Nier:Automata stuff last year :'/ - but I've somehow found some really cute ones this time! Not one but two sellers gave me a discount too, which made the experience even better. Many thanks for the cute merchs and generosity! ♡

And that's about it! I've also walked around the hall visiting almost every booth and watched some of the AKIBA STAGE performances but there's not much to go on about those. Overall, I enjoyed AFA a lot this year! :D

2. Describe something that makes you happy

Lately it’s been a mix of things. One of em is Utapri Shining Live, that game may be just a rhythm game but it has kept me sane/happy when I start feeling depressed or anxious. Also finally getting the courage to keep making more Okudaira comics/art in general. Any time I get to talk about Ginga,Himeko &Fuya I just feel happy cuz they mean a lot to me.THAT and doing anything abridged (scripting/voice acting) and singing an actually posting song covers!

3. What’s the funniest joke you know by heart?

Any abridged episode ever made by either myself or my abridged community friends  (I have way too many)

4. What’s the craziest conversation you’ve overheard?

One time someone used the words “too maleish” as an adjective. Ever since that day, I have questioned as to what the heck that means XD...also apparently that person pretending to tolerate a franchise they don’t enjoy just to fit in with a person that had influence in a fandom they were also in just to get street cred, only to talk bad about it behind their back *SLOOOOW CLAAAAAAAAAP*

5. What’s your favorite song at the moment?

Y’know I am a person who listens to a BUNCH of music a LOT. ALL THE TIME but I play a lotta stuff on repeat. Lately  (BESIDES “JAP” by Abingdon Boys School because I have to rehearse it for Anime Idol)

6. What languages do you wish you could speak?

I really should start on taking learning Japanese seriously cuz it would be beneficial to not just hobbies but who knows what doors it can open for me. I’ve been told by people that my singing is already hella accurate & maybe I can do something with it. But aside from that I think learning Quechua from my mom would be cool!

7. Describe your idea of a ‘perfect day’

Wake up at a decent time, play some Shining Live, get ready for work so I can have money, come back, play more Shining Live, work out for an hr, shower, then the rest of the night I can either do some song/voice recordings, scripting, drawing, cosplay progress or if I just wanna be a lazy cat, just watch a movie, tokusatsu, or anime that I been meaning to get around to while checking social media in between breaks. I know that is what I already do. But my perfect day/life would be actually being in the music or acting industry and doing that schedule, but for now, this is fine ;w;

8. What’s the worst movie trope in your opinion?

Honestly I don’t like it when a minority gets stereotyped.That drives me up the waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaallllll.

9. What made you laugh the hardest ever in your life?

Naughty Alphabet- Jinguji Ren

Third for this challenge is Jinguji Ren from UtaPri! This is also for my friend Sebastian since his OC and Ren have a kind of love/hate relationship, and Sebastian’s damn annoyed by the fact that he thinks Ren’s so damn attractive but cheesy as a cheeseburger XD

A-Aftercare (what are they like after sex)- Ren turns very affectionate after they both are spent, kisses and rubs his partner's body to soothe the aching that might come the day after and they help each other get clean and tending to eventual marks.

B- Body (Favorite body part)- He appreciates a pair of nice legs and a cute butt that he can put his hand on while they're out together, he's also weak for a curvy waist and hips that he can put his arm around and pulls them closer.

Ota Motohiro in TAIPEI Fanmeeting Report!

Mokkun had two fanmeets in Taipei on the 3rd of February, and they’re his first fanmeetings overseas! I was on a trip with my friends during that time so I managed to go for the first session (thank you to my wonderful friends for indulging me and sending me to the convention centre i love all of you). My Chinese and Japanese aren’t the best so I tried my very best to understand and write down whatever I could remember! (so i’m writing this on the train right after lol)

He had quite a lot of merch lined up which included plastic folders of his Gekkan photoshoot, and about 6-8 sets of bromides? I was almost late so I bought one set of bromides for 300NTD and a cheki opportunity for 500NTD.

To start the fanmeeting off we were told to call out “Mokkun!” in the loudest and cutest voice before he emerged. He tweeted that he had specially bought nice clothes for the fanmeet in Taiwan since it was his first international one, and I really wouldn’t have guessed what it was because he turned up in a suit that was all black (including his inner shirt) and his blazer was GLITTERING lol quite extra but really nice!

The first segment was a few questions about Taiwan since he had only arrived the day before. He said that he went to Jiufen the day before and he didn’t expect it to be so windy and it was also raining a lot, so everyone had their umbrellas up and he thought it was kind of dangerous lol but he ate a lot of really good food there too. I don’t actually remember most of the questions during this segment because he was talking a /lot/ and he even apologised to the translators about it lol He was also surprised that most of the audience understood Japanese to a certain degree since we were all reacting to what he was saying without needing the translator. He also noted how Taiwan is a lot like Japan, and the entire atmosphere feels very familiar.

He talked a lot about food too. He was having dim sum the day before and he was served buns with a custard filling (im not sure how to explain it in a non chinese way but it’s like nikuman but with custard filling instead) and it was served in the bamboo steamer like the rest of the savoury dishes. When he bit into it it kind of exploded (?) and ran down onto his clothes lol He was wondering if it was meant to be a dessert separate from the rest of the dim sum, and when the audience replied him in Japanese before the translator could translate for us, he jumped out of his seat and yelled “Hey, you guys really CAN understand Japanese!”

The emcee also asked if anyone went to greet him at the airport, and Mokkun seemed to really appreciate it, and the she also asked if anyone came from overseas in which there were only about three, including myself. When I responded with 新加坡 he said シンガポール！ありがとうございます (so i was quite happy about that hehe) Mokkun himself also did a small poll on the different plays which the audience first heard of him, most from Tenimyu, followed by Toumyu, Pedasute, and a small handful from Messiah, Kurobasu and Kuroshitsuji.

For the second segment they played a behind the scenes video of Mokkun during his Gekkan and calendar photoshoot in Vietnam and it was really adorable~ And everyone was more or less commentating on it. In Vietnam, Mokkun ate a LOT of coriander/cilantro and he really liked it, even eating it by itself (something i don’t understand how anyone does) and he said he’ll eat anything with coriander in it/smells like there’s coriander in it, to the point where he feels like some kind of animal eating grass wwww

When it came to clips of that One Really Pretty Outfit the audience went “woo~” and he “woo~”ed back, but the second time they did it he got embarrassed. At this point in the video they showed him with his newly bought hand fan which he was Very amused by and now keeps in his home.

The third segment was fan questions, although I’m not entirely sure where they picked the questions from. (i apologise for the answers being in third person, i don’t want to misquote him because of my bad memory)

Q: What foods are you looking forward to eating in Taiwan, or if you have arrived, what foods have you eaten?

A: He mentioned the dim sum and custard bun, and that he’s also looking forward to/had also eaten chou tofu (smelly bean) and he was quite surprised by the strong scent.

Q: What made you decide to get into 2.5D productions?

A: Back then the industry wasn’t really called 2.5D, but he made his debut with Tenimyu and decided to carry on with that.

Q: What was your first reaction to/impression of Sengo Muramasa?

A: He was shocked when he saw that he was casted as Sengo, because he felt that he was nothing like Sengo looks and personality-wise after seeing the official illustration. He really thought it was a mistake and he wanted to bring it up to the producers, but since rehearsals were starting in two weeks he decided not to lol. He also said that because most of Team Mihotose is on the serious side, he wanted to make Sengo a different but interesting standout.

Q: Prior to your casting in Toumyu, which other swords would you have wanted to be casted as?

A: He hadn’t really thought about what other characters he could’ve possibly played, but maybe Ookurikara because he’s so cool! He also really likes the black, gold, and red colour scheme so possibly Kashuu too.

(The next question is where my brain blanked and got jumbled up but it was about cross-dressing and Anna Edelman from Magdala da Maria Live)

Because of time constraints, the emcee skipped to the final question which she felt all of us wanted to see (which we did www) which was...

Q: Please show us a sexy pose.

A: For some reason, when he thinks of a sexy pose he thinks of licking or sticking out the tongue (like Hanamiya Makoto from Kurobasu, he said, but that ones a bit gross huh). He seemed embarrassed but in the end he chose to lick his finger sjfkskfjfkf mokkun pls

Forgive me if I get the order mixed up, but the next segment was a game that Mokkun could play with the audience, where he had to find out who was the wolf among the red riding hoods from 5 participants. (I would’ve gone but I barely understood the description of the game at the beginning lol) He had 3 guesses to get it right if not there would be a punishment game (which everyone was eager to see). I swear this man knows he is ultimately Very Sexy so when asked the five of them “Are you the wolf?” he got really close to their faces so they’d crack. In the end he got it right on the last guess so everyone was vaguely disappointed hehe

The next segment I believe was where we could ask Mokkun to say something in Chinese, and the first thing that was requested was 我今晚不让你回家 (I won’t let you go home tonight) (“Huh? Why is this so erotic lol” -Mokkun upon hearing the translation and learning how to say it) and someone else shouted NUGIMASHOUKA and without needing someone to tell him how to say it in Chinese and without hesitation he said 我们一起脱下吧！The only other two things he remembers how to say in Chinese are “Hello everyone” and “Thank you” wwww

Since Mokkun was in Jiufen the day before, he bought five fans for his fans (haha get it), signed and all and there was a lucky draw done with the ticket stubs. The Big prize was an alarm clock also signed by Mokkun, and the lucky person who’s stub was drawn got to get a personalised wake up call recorded on the clock. While deciding on what he should say that one same person shouted 我不让你起床 (I won’t let you wake up) (“Hey seriously?”)

The next segment was a free photo taking event, which I was slightly surprised was a thing, where he just went around the room striking Very Cute poses. We can’t post any of them online at all but I have about 50 photos of him in my phone now lol if I had a better seat there would definitely be more. Mokkun said he’d never done stuff like this in Japan but he was quite happy to be able to do it now.

With that it more or less concluded the fanmeet. Mokkun was very grateful to those who showed up and supported him, and that we’ll continue to watch future productions he’s in. He also slipped in a promotion to by the UtaPri DVD lol

Oh and there was the cheki segment at the end! Everyone except for around five people bought the cheki, and we had the option to either do a peace sign with Mokkun or a heart, and you can probably tell what everyone went for wwww afterwards we got to high-five him. It was my first cheki ever so I was nervous especially since everyone else looked really good and cute?? Also I am Quite Small so Mokkun did feel quite tall to me. When we leaned in to do the heart he really did smell very nice~ (“you smell like shit” -me to my friend wearing dior @ prom) And his smile was absolutely gorgeous I’m glad I got to look at it up close..

First fanmeet experience was great and I’m really glad I seized the opportunity~ I’ve really loved Mokkun since getting into 2.5D with Pedasute so I’m really happy I got to see him IRL.

UtaPri Q Time...this is a good one

So its that time again when I write up some Q’s that I have been thinking about for UtaPri (especially from the Anime story POV) and I thought we would go over them because some of these I have been thinking about for a GOOD LONG TIME! READY...LET’S GO!

Q:  Do you think the “God of Composing” in Season 1 was supposed to be Raging? A:  This is a good one out of the gate BECAUSE it would fit with the story from S1-4 Here’s why If we remember the scene in Shining’s Office after the “first formation” of STARISH (Sans Cecil....sorry @baku5ds) there was this person that we were told was the “God of Composing” and it clearly was a dude so anything was possible...now its also possible that could have been Shining as I don’t think it was ever properly revealed (plotholes...gotta love them) but if we go with the idea that it WAS Raging (or some affiliated with him) well that makes sense with Season 2 in a way when he come out later with HEAVENS as a trio (The “Trio of Amateurs” as Shining so Condescendingly called them) so it COULD have been him...then we remember that Shining mentioned that this person won “countless awards” and you kind of put that off to the side. This brings me to this question Q:  Do you THINK HEAVENS was supposed to always be a rival or as “evil” as some interpreted them to be at the time or do you think something else was in the works? A:  Aight...this is an interesting one So do I think HEAVENS was supposed to be a “rival” at first?  No!  I think I might have explained this before but let me do it again to what I THINK was supposed to happen vs. what DID happen I think personally HEAVENS was going to be a separate thing...I really do.  I think (without knowing the story plan at this point in time) that A-1 probably saw QN and was like “Hey we should make them rivals to STARISH cos that would work with them in the same Agency” but then Broc was like “Well we COULD but we just had them come into the series last year so the fandom might not have had proper time to warm up to them yet.” So what they DID was they created a group that would be “villains” to STARISH and they could do that without sacrificing QN.  Now this WOULD work out for them in the end but I do think if I had to guess someone wanted to put QN as rivals but HEAVENS got created so that they could do something with little work involved...I’ll explain that in the next one Q:  With the way HEAVENS was introduced in Seasons 2 and 3 do you think that set everything up for failure with Legend Star? A:  Failure is a weird thing to quantify here.  If we talk about “failure” as in “Allowing the HEAVENS member to properly introduce themselves” then in some ways yes and this ALSO became a problem because the “Lighting Rod” that is “Leader Man” was the one they were building to as far as trying to get sympathy on and it WORKED...until we got to those infamous 3 episodes because up until then no one said anything “bad” about Eiichi and then it all went to shit after the fact.  It was like Broccoli realized people were getting behind them slowly ,panicked ,and then proceeded to fuck it all up again and the reaction that happened after HEAVENS was thrown out in Episode 11 was much different than what they wanted...I wonder if they ever properly figured out where they screwed up HOWEVER If we talk about HEAVENS being a failure as far as their (group) singles go...that’s trickier See their first “publicly available” single went to #3 and stayed on the Oricon for about 2 weeks which SHOCKED ME...I’d have thought they would have spent one day and then done Well HEAVEN SKY happened and it was pretty much closer to what I expected. The single peaked at #5 and then bottomed out not long after.  It was weird too because I tend to wonder why “Immortal Inferno” did so well and HEAVEN SKY kind of flamed out.  I think a big part of it was that the HEAVEN SKY CD was an “album” (that was its classification on the Oricon) and then “Immortal Inferno” was a “single” and that made it “easier”?  I dunno now let’s go for this one Q:  You are cautious about the Eiji/Camus pairing with Masa now but you had an idea for an Eiji/Masa pairing with a fic ages ago...what happened? A:  This would be a fair question (and is) so let’s address it I’m trying to remember the timeline...I’m almost positive that the stage had happened LONG BEFORE I wrote that idea for an AU with Camus and Eiji (and it was to have me too because “self-insert”) and I was going to start writing it actually months ago but I kept putting it off and putting it off and then I just canned it...am I saying I COULDN’T write it?  I mean I could but it would OBVIOUSLY be different than whatever Broc wants to do with the idea.  I mean I have the idea of what to do with it still but its a long series and there were some other ideas I want to implement too...like a couple idols from another company that I won’t name...yet (and now with an announcement of another game coming out in English I might have some other ideas floating around too). The big thing for me was that when I wrote my last fic a big motivator was spite because of certain things (like the fact we STILL DON’T KNOW SHIT ABOUT DOLCE) and I wanted to separate myself from that idea for a little bit...not saying I won’t still write it but I want to make sure I know the main cast and what kind of story its going to be cos I have these like REALLY GRAND ideas for fic series’ but writing it is fucking hell man! Let’s do some lighter questions here Q:  Is there a pairing you will never write for no matter what? A:  Nagi/Haru...NOPE! Q:  If there was a member of any of the three units that you would want to see on a sports card in Shining Live who would it be? A:  Camus landing a Triple Axel Q:  If you were to write a “Misadventures of Scientist Tokiya” who would be his assistant? A:  Okay so I have a couple of ideas for this one First would be Satsuki because despite his volatile nature I don’t think he would wreck shit if he knew something could KILL THEM Eiji because...he always likes being helpful and we know that OR NAGI *record scratch* Okay someone just went “WHY HIM?!” Cos as much of a brat as Nagi is (sorry @heavens-saved-my-life but your son is) he’s also HELLA SMART!  Like I think he could help Tokiya make some cool shit to help “Save the world from the forces of Evil” or at the very least he could be the guy that plays pranks on him when he isn’t looking and experiments go “POP!” (I didn’t say “BOOM!” cos that means REALLY BIG EXPLOSION and I’m not trying to kill one of Jamie’s kids) And now for @baku5ds‘ favorite part of my posts ANYWAYS Let’s do one more on the way “out the door” Q:  You have to pair Eiji with a member of another unit from another Agency...who ya got and why? A:  That would be THIS GUY

finding love in a hopeless place

(I was listening to We Found Love when I started this thing.) Tenka AKA @kisukke​ has tagged me in a Q&A tag, so here we go! Rules:

1. if given an opportunity to be an author of a novel, what era would you choose as the setting for that novel?

Future dystopia (most likely Kuala Lumpur because I want a story set in Malaysia for international audiences for a change) in which humans have evolved into a completely logical and scientific authoritarian society. That’s all I’m going to say.

2. Do you cook? What is your favorite dish to make (or that you wish you could cook)?

Yes! It’s kind of necessary since moving out of my parents’. I mostly do Japanese and Chinese-style cooking. (Somewhere in the distance, my paternal ancestors, who are Malay, are turning in their graves). My favorite dish to make is mapo tofu (according to this recipe). 

And this is strictly not a dish but I wish I could make mooncakes. My maternal grandmother used to make them, but I haven’t had a chance to ask when she was able to make them.

3. Dyed hair, piercings or tattoos?

None, unfortunately. I don’t mind them on other people but I’ve never felt like having them myself.

4. How often do you read books? And fanfic?

Not often enough, now that I’m focusing on studying Japanese and translation in my free time (with the occasional gaming — The Sims 4 and Bungō & Alchemist, plus the mobile puzzle game Two Dots lately — and watching FFXV playthroughs). Working a desk job and addiction to social media can drain you a lot.

I don’t usually read fanfics. The last time I did was because someone (you know who you are) recommended me some Stucky ones in private. I’d love to read platonic and/or romantic-realizing RenMasa though, so if you have recs please hit me up! (lmao Masato would be so in denial if he were to be attracted to Ren Fuckin’ Jinguji in any way, it’s hilarious. But I digress.)

5. In a classic detective story, who would you be? The detective, the clueless inspector, the crying maid or the victim?

I wish I could be the detective (or the detective’s assistant, like Robin Ellacott in the Cormoran Strike series); but let’s face it, I’m more likely to be the victim.

6. Fav sport to watch.

Definitely tennis when there’s a Grand Slam going on. But other than that, I follow the English League One soccer team AFC Wimbledon because of their Nerdfighteria affiliation. (It helps to get updates from Dear Hank and John.)

7. Any fashion style you would like to try?

I usually dress in what’s comfortable for me. But more than anything, I want to be comfortable shopping in the “men’s” section in department stores... for non-binary expression reasons. (I tried this last month at Uniqlo — tried on men’s slim fit jeans only to find out that my butt is too big for them. Thanks, Mom.)

8. Fav national holiday.

Oh, God. Malaysia celebrates too many holidays it’s insane. We have at least a dozen national holidays a year, plus state holidays (anywhere between 2 and 4 days for each the 13 states and the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan, and Putrajaya. Again, I digress.

I guess my favorite would be Malaysia Day (September 16)? For years, Malaysia had only celebrated Independence Day (technically the day the Federation of Malaya achieved independence from the British in 1957) but Malaysia Day was the real day in 1963 in which Malaysia in its current form came to be. (Well, almost. Singapore left on August 9, 1965.) Why it was only gazetted as a national holiday since 2010 is beyond me.

9. If you were an idol singer, what would be your stage name?

Nacchan! I’ve always (okay, ever since Natsuki became my favorite UtaPri boy) wanted to be called that.

10. Drawing or writing?

Why not both? I’m still holding on to some semblance of hope to become a manga artist one day.

11. What fictional world would you like to visit?
