we do not know and might not ever know the full story behind mania and the circumstances under which it was produced but we know enough by now to understand that there was a lot of strife and frustration involved in the way it came about. the band has been clear on this much. the divisive reception upon release didn't help any. and we know the last time that happened with folie, it led to that record essentially being forgotten and aggressively sidelined for years afterward. the roughness of its reception was explicitly one of the things that patrick especially cited as difficult for him to look back on, and one of the reasons it took so long for him to embrace those songs again.

it took mania five years what took folie a full hiatus and double that time.

honestly ironic that it was a folie 8 ball on the night they didnt play any mania

i have said this before but mania is currently undergoing the same process folie has been undergoing the last few years, it’s just earlier in its timeline. maybe it’s not been entirely the reaction and treatment from the fans and more the personal frustration and emotions associated with the album for the band, but the fan reactions could possibly play a part in why they’re reluctant to play these songs compared to the other albums.

folie underwent this same process - after the break patrick didn’t even want to play the songs from it, and it’s only in the last few months that they’ve added them back with any confidence. I’m hopeful that the reaction from the fans to these songs being integrated into the setlist encourages the band that they can do this with mania too. they have said multiple times that they are proud of mania and they stand by what they did on that album, and i hope in tours to come they can play songs from mania and not worry about how fans will react (and also have grown from this tour cycle enough to be confident and comfortable as well).

as someone with absolutely TEXTBOOK bipolar disorder (i'm talking cut-and-dry, all-or-nothing episodes of mania and depression that i oscillate between like a metronome) i love comic relief sheogorath so much more than scary, creepy sheogorath.

the way i see it, if you're going to do weird shit with a guy who's supposed to be The Origin Of All Mental Illnesses Ever, the least you can do is make him funny and charming and occasionally shaped like a mischievous little kittycat in a vest. bipolar disorder makes my life hell but it also makes me way funnier than i would be if i was perfectly sane. it gives me a slightly morbid sense of humor, sure, but it lets me laugh more and compels me to find joy and whimsy in everything. crazy people being scary is OUT... crazy people being the life of the fucking party is IN.

^ THIS is what bipolar disorder means to me. i spend enough time brooding and being scary when i'm a depressive episode... as soon as the clock strikes mania i'm already breaking out the cheese-shaped confetti and baking a cake at 2am!!!

haaate how my two favourite ships (surgamy + espilver) typically involve the less popular character losing their edge and acting really out of character (but in an in character way?) because when i go through periods of not drawing/writing/whatever much when it comes to surge or espio as standalone characters (or at least outside the context of shipping) i get scared im gonna forget who they are and that theyre actually so cool

alright, i’ll give it a shot: oinoya (oikawa tooru x nishinoya yuu). i read this ONE time. i saw the relationship tag on ao3. that was the first time i’d ever even THOUGHT of that being a ship, and yet, when i saw it, i immediately went, “yeah that makes sense.”

essentially, “i’d give up my life for this game” x “i quit playing because my bestie ain’t on the team anymore” and i think that’s fascinating

My first instinct was rejection, of the ship, I'm not sure it's for me, buttt...

I do think their mutual high energies could really pair well together. Like I imagine they'd go on dates, and each date ends up being like 4 different locations. "Oh there's this amazing boba shop that opened up, lets go there... oh, you know what, we should go minigolfing... yeah its only 20... 25 blocks away, lets walk." They'd have a TON of fun together.

I can also imagine the slightly quiet evenings, where Oikawa is reading a book and Noya falls asleep on his legs so they just stay there the whole night until Oikawa's feet are numb and he HAS to move.

I see your point on their potential dynamic as being opposite, but I dont think they're as different as it looks... Noya was willing to give up playing the game because he didnt want to play without Asahi but he wanted Asahi to play. I feel like Noya could be the most diehard supporter for Oikawa. Like of course the Seijoh team backs him up, but I imagine Noya grabbing him by the face and being like "OH MY GOD ARGENTINA IS THE BEST IDEA IN THE WORLD YOU'LL BE AMAZING!!!" like 100% faith in his boyfriend, only support, nothing else in him. Plus, Argentina is beautiful. He's already traveling the world he can make 4-5 pitstops a year there to appreciate his boy. Crash on his couch and come watch his games and make him food he's learned from all around the world, and Oikawa never has a dull moment with him, listens to his stories from everywhere he's ever been, and just falls deeper and deeper in love because he's finally found someone who's seen the whole world but still chooses to come back to him.

Oikawa would absolutely cut Noya's hair for him. Noya would be like "put a lightning pattern in it!!!" and Oikawa would laugh and say "i dont know if I can, i might fuck it up" and Noya will just laugh more and tell him even a fucked up lightning bolt would be cool

They'd fall asleep with Noya spread out on Oikawa's chest, no blankets, because it's so hot. Post timeskip I see a lot more potential for them.
