Watched the first episode of Pale Moon with my mom. She loves Kim Seo-hyung ever since watching Mine--she watched Mine twice in a row and then proceeded to watch Sky Castle, which she hated, in its entirety, just for Kim Seo-hyung. So when I said I wanted to try out a Kim Seo-hyung show, she agreed even tho it was already past her bedtime lols.

My thoughts on Pale Moon so far: Kim Seo-hyung is really interesting to watch as Yu Yi-hwa. She's so kind and moral and generous, but you can already see the small flashes of a more pragmatic side, and I'm looking forward to seeing a morality spiral into (according to the flashforward at the beginning of the episode) running away to Thailand to escape embezzlement charges (??). But actually I originally heard about this show bc Yoo Sun was in it, and I need more of her ASAP--the first episode shows a couple good scenes of her, but I'm definitely going to need more and need her more involved in the plot. I do think her acting is a lot less subtle than Kim Seo-hyung's, so I hope they play well off each other as the show goes on. In any case. She's enjoyable. However, my ship so far is Yi-hwa/Yoon Min-joon. Bc they've already collided on the street and had a meaningful umbrella moment and I could get behind that age gap.

My mom's thoughts on Pale Moon so far: The director doesn't film Kim Seo-hyung as glamorously as the directors of Mine or Sky Castle. This makes sense bc it's a more straightforward thriller, not a makjang, and filming her like Jeong Seo-hyun wouldn't make much sense. But it's a pity they make her so unassuming. My mom also doesn't trust how Yi-hwa presents herself; what are Yi-hwa's real thoughts, what are the repressed parts of her personality?

My mom and me combined: Wow, even for a kdrama, that's a depressing marriage.

Might watch another episode tomorrow. Since I've committed to watching it with my mom, I can't just binge unfortunately :( but we'll see.

I wish you would write a fic where... Where we see what happens after Rescue Breathing! I am a sucker for any kind of scenario in which Min Jeong lives, and I think you'd do a great job writing her interacting with Dong Sik. It would be funny to see her interact with Joo Won as well 🤭

Funnily enough, that's what the fic was supposed to be! I outlined a much longer story that dealt with Min-jeong waking up, but with severe neurological issues (as a result of the anoxia and a stroke).

The story eventually culminates with her giving her account of what happened the night Kang Jin-muk tried to kill her, and then ripping Han Ju-won a new one for swanning into Manyang to ruin an innocent man's life with no evidence to back it up. Ju-won goes into the hall to have a minor panic attack over it and Dong-sik follows him, wrapping him up in a hug and using Cal Stat on his hands before wiping Ju-won's tears away. Ju-won says he plans to stay in Manyang because Yu-yeon hasn't been found and he thinks there's more to the case than the bodies they've found at Simju.

As Ju-won goes to head back to the station where Kang Jin-muk is being interrogated by Oh Ji-hwa, Dong-sik calls after him. He orders Ju-won to get some sleep, then invites him to have dinner with him and Min-jeong the next day. Ju-won flushes and agrees.

When Dong-sik goes back into Min-jeong's room, he tells her to cut Ju-won some slack, and she rolls her eyes and asks if she's allowed to tease him for making moon eyes at Dong-sik. Grinning, Dong-sik kisses her one of her bandaged hands and tells her that she has his express permission.

Here's a small snippet from the story that almost was:

The doctor tells him that despite there being no diffuse cortical hypersignals in Min-jeong's DWI, whatever that means, Min-jeong most certainly has brain damage. She shows him scans from the MRIs, a backlit brain on the lightbox, with little neon green markers in the squiggly white folds that point out how Min-jeong's still suffering, even though she's been out of the bag for days. There are notes and arrows labeling the parts of her brain to indicate "swelling" and "restricted diffusion," even though they look indistinguishable from the unmarked parts. Dong-sik's memory of A&P is shitty, but even he knows what anoxia is.

"Brain cells begin to die after four to five minutes of low to no oxygen," the doctor explains, appropriately matter-of-fact, which he appreciates. If she tries to sugarcoat this, he'll lose his mind. "Miss Kang was without oxygen for much longer than that. The damage done to her brain will be severe—her motor skills, her cognition, her very personality will all be affected, but we won't be able to determine the extent of it until she wakes up."

If she wakes up, she doesn't say, but Dong-sik feels it in his arteries where it settles like a fine powder.

Then the doctor says, "The stroke presents another set of complications on top of those."

Dong-sik stares at the MRI scan until his eyes burn. The gray matter looks like folds of plastic. There are sequins and denim in there. Shussh shussh. "Stroke?"

"Miss Kang suffered an ischemic stroke."

The doctor had introduced herself to him a few days ago. Her handshake had been firm but brief, solid. She'd been wearing a purple shirt with abstract flowers on it, great looping lines like calligraphy, with little sequins on the petals. But he can't for the life of him remember what she said her name was. He drops his gaze to the badge clipped to her lapel, to the name printed next to a smiling photo of her that looks a few years old, but it blurs, spreading like dye in water.

"That's impossible." His tongue is suddenly too big for his mouth. It blocks the words, makes them stick awkwardly to the back of his teeth. "She's… she's only twenty. Strokes don't happen to twenty-year olds."

"Unfortunately, they can happen at any age. A stroke is simply the result of obstructed blood flow to the brain. Ischemic stroke normally happens because of a clot blocking a blood vessel, but… she was strangled, Mr. Lee."

Bu dizi ile ilgili çok fazla sosyal medyada linç varmış. Diziyi izlemeyi bırakanlar, böyle şey izlemem diyenler, izleyip yerenler… uçsuz bucaksız bir mevzuymuş meğerse. Şimdi dizimiz kütüphanede çalışan sessiz sakin kendi halinde yaşan ve uzun bir ilişkisi olan hanım kızımız Lee Jeong-In(Han Ji-Min)’in bir gün alışveriş yaptığı eczanede, eczacı çocuk Yu Ji-Ho(Jung Hae-In)’dan etkilenmesi ile başlıyor. Aslında Yu Ji-Ho kızımızdan daha çok etkileniyor. İki tarafta ilk başta bunu kabul etmese de ilk kendinden emin olan kişi Yu Ji-Ho oluyor. Ama kızımızın sevgilisi olmasından dolayı bir adım atmıyor. Adım atmamasının ikinci nedeni ise bekar bir baba olması. Lee Jeong-In ise dediğim gibi uzun bir ilişki içerisinde. Erkek arkadaşı Kwon Gi-Seok(Kim Joon-Han) ile aralarındaki ilişki monotonluk ile sıkıcılık arasında gidip geliyor. Her ne kadar böyle yorucu bir ilişki içinde olsa da kızımızda eczacıda uzak durmaya çalışıyor. Önünde sonunda içinde bulunduğu durumu analiz edip, erkek arkadaşından ayrılıp duygularını kabulleniyor.

Vallahi anlam veremedim. Yine ben bu ortam dedikodularını bir diziyi yazmaya karar verince öğrendiğim için pırıl pırıl bir kafayla izledim. Açıkçası da oldukça beğendim.

Öncelikle bu durumun aldatma olduğuna katılmıyorum. Eğer çok ısrar ediliyorsa da kabul edilebilir olduğunu savunurum. Uzun süreli ilişkilerde bir noktadan sonra tarafların ikisi de kendisini o alışkanlığın pençesine bırakabiliyor. Böyle olunca da içinde bulunduğu dururumu görmesi çok daha zor oluyor. Bunu fark etmesi için tetikleyici bir şey yaşaması gerekiyor. O alışkanlığın aslında onu mutsuz eden şey olduğunu kabul etmek çok kolay bir durum değil. Ayrıca da dizide anlatılan ilişkide Kwon Gi-Seok daha öncesinde ayrılmak istemiş ama o kadar alışılmış bir durum varmış ki ayrılamamışlar. Kızımız farkındalığını kucağına alıp ayrılmak isteyince ise, kıymete biniyor. Gurur meselesi haline geliyor. Ondan sonra vay efendim aldatmalı dizi pis kaka.

Bu kadar doğal bir süreci bu kadar abartmaları bana biraz manasız geldiği için bir miktar yükseldim. Buradaki konuya gelene kadar “Marriage contract” dizisinde böbrek için evlenmeye çalışılıyordu. Romance is a bonus book, Do do sol sol la la sol ve Something in the rain gibi dizilerde kendinden çok küçük erkeklere aşık kadınlar vardı. Forecasting love & weather dizisinde ise mevzu eş değiştirme tesadüfüne kadar gidiyordu. Bütün bu dizilerin çılgın bir hayran kitlesi var. Tepkiyse bunlara da tepki olmalıydı. Saydığım diziler ile ilgili yorumlarımı zaten yazmıştım, tekrar etmeyeceğim. Something in the rain dizisi ile bu dizi arasında çok fazla benzerlik bulduğumu eklemeliyim. İkisinin de başrolünün aynı erkek olması bir etken tabi ama iki kadın oyuncunun da aynı enerjiyi vermesi ikisinin de çok başarılı kadınlar olması da bir diğer etken. Sanırım bu diziyi daha çok sevdim ama ikisi de güzeldi.

Bana kalırsa dizi tam olarak sonbahar tadındaydı. Something in the rain’den farklı olarak karakterler yaşıttılar. Büyük kadın krizi yoktu. Her ne kadar oyuncu olarak aralarındaki yaş farklı diğer dizideki gibi olsa da karakterler yaşıt denildi, bize bir şey söylemek düşmez. Han Ji-Min bence şahane bir oyuncu. Çok kötü dayanamadığım dizisini de izledim, orada bile şahaneydi. Olumsuz söylenecek hiçbir şey yok. Jung Hae-In ise arkadaşlarımla aramızda “güzel seven çocuk” olarak biliniyor. Çok güzel seviyor. Rolüne öyle güzel giriyor, partnerine öyle güzel bakıyor ki… insan izlerken onun sevdiğini sevesi geliyor. Aman hiç üzülmesin istiyor. Bu dizide de bir sahnede kızımız ona sevdiğini söylediğinde ağlamaya başlaması şahane bir detaydı. Bütün o sevgiye ne kadar aç olduğunu daha önce ne kadar özlemini çekmiş olduğunu bütün çıplaklığı ile izleyiciye geçirdi.

Son olarak eski sevgili krizine de parmak basıp kapatıyorum. Bir insan bu kadar açık ve net bir şekilde reddedilmesine rağmen nasıl bu kadar yüzsüz olabilir aklım almadı. Hele ikisinin de babaları… Biz ayrıldık dedikçe düğün planı yaptılar. Tam cinnet geçirmelikdi. Ben diziyi beğendim. Farklı duygularla, karakterleri anlayarak, sakince izledim. Tavsiye ederim.
