The early episodes of “Payback” held promise for a truly compelling thriller with the always great Lee Sun-kyung in the lead role. But the storylines get progressively more convoluted as the show progresses.
Lee plays Eung Yong, an ambitious man with a photographic memory when it comes to numbers. He can read an entire ledger and correctly recall everything in it.
After a stint in juvenile detention where his physical prowess served him well, Eun Yong vows to never end up behind bars again. But when you’re poor and uneducated, with no parents to support you and an older sister and nephew who are financially struggling, the options are minimal.

THE FLOWER OF EVIL // KDRAMA DİZİ YORUMU
UYARI : Yazılar genel olarak spoiler içerebilir. İçermeyedebilir.
İmdb: 8,7 Benim puanım: 9
Drama: Flower of Evil (English title)
Hangul:
Director: Kim Cheol-Kyu
Writer: Yoo Jung-Hee
Date: 2020
Language: Korean
Country: South Korea
Cast: Lee Joon-Gi, Moon Chae-Won, Jang Hee-Jin, Seo Hyun-Woo, Choi Young-Joon
2021 (57th) BaekSang Arts Awards - May 13, 2021
Best Director (Kim Cheol-Kyu)
İzleme listemde en yüksek puana sahip diziye başlamaya karar verince karşıma çıkan dizi Flower of Evil oldu.
Do Min-Seok intihar etmeseydi ortaya çıkmayacak olan suçu şüphe çekerken, oğlu Do Hyun-Soo da onun suç ortağı olması ihtimali konuşulmaktadır.

I didn't really want Hyun-soo to become a murderer, but it was so satisfying to see Hee-sung utterly terrified.
They have accused him of murder baselessly all his life; now finally he is going to be what they said he is. And BHS freaks!
I loved this bit so much! Because people did horrible things to him all his life and all he wanted was to get away from them. He had zero interest in revenge.
But here, BHS hurt Ji Won, killed Ji Won (or so he believes) and now Hyun Soo is more terrifying that BHS ever dreamed of being.
I liked Mi Sook preventing him from being a murderer because she does see the similarities in them - two tortured victims driven into a corner in a different way; and she’s grateful for being saved. Because otherwise, yikes.
And we get that scene of HS chasing him through the forest, with the focus still on his wedding ring.
Seriously this? This is scary. He has finally and truly snapped.
(this actually made me laugh. You got what you wanted, why are you complaining?)
And then he sees his father again and is following him. Yikes omg the symbolism of that is NOT GOOD. He is pretty much disassociating.
Meanwhile, Ji Won finds out that he may think he is dead and her face goes !!!!! as it should. She knows more than anyone, how fragile her husband’s…everything…is.
Yes please! I do love that she’s not talking about saving him from a physical peril but a worse peril - to his soul and sanity and sense of self.
I found this interesting. Because sure Ji Won has that opinion - she’s a cop. But if there ever was a man who needed killing, it’s BHS.
In conclusion, I am a disturbed person but this was sort of hot.

Payback - First Impression
Story in a Nutshell Our protagonist Eun Yong (Lee Seon-kyun) is a self-made uber-rich, who escaped South Korea and settled down pretty nicely in Mongolia, until an unexpected email summons him back to his home country. The premiering week is mostly flashbacks of how Yong transformed from a seemingly wayward youth released from the detention center, to a gangster earning his meager keeps, to an…

I am so glad the new kdramas are bringing back the specific brand of loser men. You know which brand I'm talking about. The Ahn "min min" Minhyuk brand of loser men and I'm loving it. The "I worship this goddess and I'm so in love with her and I can't believe I get to love her. Oh my gods I love her so much" brand of loser men. And we're being fed so well with lovely runner, love next door, no gain no love, my demon, Cinderella at 2am, Hierarchy, Midnight Romance in Hagwon, doctor slump, Queen of tears, welcome to samdal-ri and even good partner (yes it's one sided but the dedication and yuri's couple too).
We need more fictional loser men who worship women to satiate our eldest independent daughter desires.

Dramas I would like to force people to watch with me (but can't since kidnapping is illegal) part 2
Look, listen, focus. This is a really good one and it has psychopaths and actual enjoyable hetero romance. Have I reeled you in yet?
Flower of Evil (2020)
suspense/melodrama/korean drama
Who the hell is the perfect stay-at-home-dad Baek Heesung really? What did he do in his previous life to deserve his weird as fuck parents? And why is he keeping a reporter tied up in the basement of his metal workshop? The answers to these questions is a wild ride that you really don't want to miss out on.
This drama is a tangle of crooked webs, intricately spun to tell the story of a young man with a dark past. Everything about it hits you with no mercy. He is portrayed as a psychopath who is unfeeling and cold, but the man we see with his wife and child is something else entirely. He gets tangled in his own web of lies and when everything starts to fall apart around him he realises that maybe he isn't the person he thought he was. And maybe, just maybe, he's worthy of being loved?
It's impossible to spill everything I love about this show without spoilers, but damn it's good. The acting leaves you breathless, and it only gets better as the story unfolds. There's a strong emphasis on discovering your self worth, and unconditional love. It hits me right where it hurts. The way this love story is told makes me believe in hetero romance again, and that is not a small feat for a hopeless queer like myself. It's dark, raw, emotional, packed with hurt/comfort, and a damn good ride.

It's definitely a good thing that I did not watch this in real time, I would have died of angst.
OK, when Hyun Soo starts hallucinating his father again (something he hasn’t done since Ji Won kissed him well over 10 years ago), you know things are going pear-shaped.
OK, regardless of whether they are both in on a plan, working with different plans or w/e, this man’s mental health has just taken a giant enormous leap back. Like - yikes.
I love how it feels like a horror moment when Ji Won sees her husband looking at something clearly not there (if HS told her he used to hallucinate daddy, it adds an extra dimension of horror.)
This broke my heart. And why I think they aren’t going from the same plans; his heartbreak and even bitterness are too real. (Or maybe they are on the same plot but his underlying concern remains. I think it’s the former though.) And he has a point - if even the woman who loves him, who’s slept on the same bed with him for over a decade, who he told and shown everything about himself, doesn’t trust him and believes him capable of that kind of murder, what hope is there for him?
I find it interesting that he snaps (or executes an instant plan) when he finds out he’s about to be arrested and taken in; I wonder if it’s because he knows his time has run out - he may have been able to talk to Ji Won and see if he has time for some plan but not with a squad’s worth of cop cars on the way. And while I do not think he has snapped in the “I don’t trust Ji Won and I have decided to start a murder career with my beloved wife even tho I didn’t even try to kill my various abusers,” I do think he has zero trust in anyone in authority to help him and he thinks he needs to be free to solve this on his own (though his going off on his own has caused problems before, sigh.) I also think he is doing this to protect her in a perverse way - she was not in on it, she didn’t know he was evil, she is a victim of the monster Do Hyun Soo, is what she can use as an excuse if he fails at clearing his name (though honestly, I think he is less concerned with that than protecting his family since he knows the serial killer has threatened them; to protect them he needs to catch him and to catch him he needs to be free.)
Also this!!!! I bet he did it so he could actually tell her what is going on because otherwise why bother, all it would show is them leaving through the back door with his knife on her neck or w/e.
But even if my theory is correct WTF HYUN SOO PULLING A KNIFE ON YOUR WIFE! Unless you both coordinated this, desperate measures or not, I hope she wallops you and makes you sleep on the couch for a month. With all the springs pulled out.
Therapy for everyone!!!!!
