Enchanted Insomnia

What can you do when the sky sets your heart on fire? Like porcelain, when the sun rises and kisses the sky with shades of pink, and all I can do is admire it all from down here; humbled and small.

To dream is to make a promise to your heart or forgive a longing in your soul. It’s a wonderful way to manifest the things you want. It’s also a terrifying labyrinth you can lose yourself in. You can’t let your dreams run your life, but you can bathe in them from time to time, and emerge, almost like you’ve been baptized by your own special brand of faith.

What happens when your partner is asleep? Your comrade, your best friend, your forever-love, or your brother, or sister, or parent is just walking or sitting next to you, completely disillusioned about life and knocked out of the moment?

Maybe we’ll need a couple of two by four’s to wake their ass up.

Some people just aren’t ready to be unplugged and we can’t force them to open their eyes. It’s almost as though they’re in constant state of a “consciousness coma.” People will only see what they want to see when they are ready to see it, no sooner, no later.

It almost feels worse when you see someone incredibly invaluable wasting his or her time, or not being appreciated with the same level of consciousness. There is a genuine concern or discord here. I don’t necessarily believe that there is an elite tribe somewhere where all the “conscious people” stay together, and everyone else is on their own. In fact, those of us that are awake, I believe, have a responsibility to those who don’t have their eyes open quite yet. But, there is a difference between struggle and effort. You can only carry a horse so far before you realize it’s, long since, passed. I know, it’s morbid, but that’s how it seems sometimes. 

Don’t lose your light, don’t waste your time, or think you can change someone. No one will wake up before they are ready. In fact, it could be dangerous to try and wake them up prematurely. Maybe it takes our departure so the imprint we leave upon them will flip the switch and turn the light on. When we walk away from someone that has been such a fundamental part of your life, and vice versa, they will ultimately create within them what you took when you left.

Guess what? That means they can turn the light on themselves now. 

And that’s the monument you get to leave behind.

1,000 posts... Does this make me an official blogger?

I actually can remember back to when I knew I wanted to start a blog and it took me upward of months to come up with a name for it.  My best friend and I wanted to venture into blogging and writing our stories. And naturally we wanted and had to do it together. Afterall, who else would follow each other's blog and be their #1 fan? 

The name was a topic I revisited time and time again. I was unnecessarily obsessive over the name and would not start until I was satisfied with it.

Once "Monuments and Melodies" was mine on tumblr I felt like I need to live up to it's name. It came from a very special album from my favorite band Incubus.

I always want monuments in my life and melodies in my heart and my story.

My first post... I also put so much thought into it and it didn't even consist of  keystrokes; it was simply a beautiful picture of a pink hibiscus flower on November 3rd, 2010. 

For me, it represented the beauty of the world, one of my favorite things, and I wanted to write about my life and what makes me Mel. F to E R G the I the E.

Mel, a Midwest girl from Nebraska who boldly moved across the country to Arizona. Who loves Husker football and puppies. Who embraces the sunshine and appreciates sunrises and sunsets. Who has a passion for psychology and mental health and chiropractic care. Who drinks too much espresso and coffee and could always overindulge on dark chocolate or chicken wings. Who doesn't believe in such a thing as overindulging in red wine. Who will never be found without mascara, perfume, or painted toenails. A left hand, kinky-curly hair blond with alligator eyes. A lover of plaid, heels, watches, scarves, and Nike tennis shoes. A photography enthusiast. An avid project creating, home decorating obsessed, Pintrest addict. A girl with a best friend who is unmatched, who is her soulmate and gypsy-pirate. An older sister who will protect and love her little brother to the ends of this earth. A lucky daughter to the most amazing, giving, and earnest Momma Jomma. Someone who loves music and driving with the windows down in her red SUV with the music blaring. A military supporter full of a family of veterans. A proud American. A Libra through and through. A girl who comes from a line of French royalty and is Polish and Irish. A girl who relishes in a good workout and sweating out your demons. A person who is fiercely loyal with a plethora of empathy. A person who hates indecision, broken trust, and people who cannot own up to their mistakes. A person who becomes a monster when she's hot, tired, and hungry. A girl who wishes there was more charm, positivity, and a helping hand in the world. A believer in magic. A hater of scissors, snow, haunted houses and scary movies, and maple syrup. A devoted book reader. A lover of yoga, meditation, and Eastern medicine. A girl who has experienced some difficult life experiences. A woman who will not let them define her or affect her positive outlook. A girl who fell in love, got married, and fell out of love and moved on.  Someone who misses the rain and freshly cut grass of the Midwest. A girl who relishes in a deep laugh that is uncontrollable. A girl who would happily watch a solid 14 hours of college or pro-football on the weekend. A believer in The Secret, respect, forgiveness, and the comfort of a hug from a person who loves you. A home owner living in her dream house. A mom to a fur baby, Bruno our English Bulldog, who is my heart. A happy fiancé with a gorgeous engagement ring she wears proudly on her finger. A woman who is profoundly, madly in love to the love of her life. Just a girl who can't wait to marry her handsome, Cali born, blue eyed, strong and loving man and start a family with him.

My hope is that my blog has reflected me as a person and I will be able to look back and see the truth, the good and the bad, of my life and experience... My hope that reading it another four years from now is that I will be proud of my story and see growth and never lose my optimism. 

I have come to be satisfied and happy with my blog. There are have been hiatuses of time where I was not inspired or felt the need to write and share. I will always have tumblr to look back on and see my own story; and for that I am grateful.

Here's to my future momuments and the melodies that will carry me through. Here's to another 1,000 posts!
