In the summer of 1987, Tim Payne built this in my hometown for the Island Water Sports skate Mid-America skateboard camp. My friends and I had some of the best times skating with skate legends Blaze Blouin, Mickey Alba, Monty Nolder, Lenny Byrd, Reese Simpson, Buster Halterman and more. That, in conjunction with a big contest at the VP Fair ( won by @Tonyhawk ! ) and coverage in Thrasher and Transworld really helped put St. Louis on the map. The Ledge #438: Power Pop
What is power pop? According to the dictionary, it's "a style of pop music characterized by a strong melody line, heavy use of guitars, and simple rhythm". Yeah, that works. I prefer to just call it "revved up pop music".
Tonight's show features over 50 years of power pop, from The Who single "Pictures of Lily" that Pete Townshend described as "power pop" to some great new bands that are powering that sound into the future. Lou from Rum Bar Records even helped us out with some great gems from the early days of his label.
After listening, please go purchase those tracks you enjoy! These great artists deserve to be compensated for their hard work, and every purchase surely helps not only pay their bills but fund their next set of wonderful songs. You can find this show at almost any podcast site, including iTunes and Stitcher...or

repost from @mfrazier72 I saw this video a couple of days ago from @muckmouth , and it made my day. If watching Christian Hosoi skating a contest to some Clearwater credence revival ( my pick😉) doesn’t get you fired up to skate, then it’s probably because of one of three (or all 3) reasons... #1. You don’t like skating. #2. Bad taste in music #3. All of the above!! @christianhosoi came to skate our home ramp ( @leonard_trubia ramp) with Monty Nolder, when my buddies and I were 16-17 years old. He showed up wearing some tight fitting shorts ( spandex I believe), and if I recall right... a leather jacket! ✨Rock star💫shit!!! He only took 2-3 runs, but those runs were fucking magic!! This was before the whole padless thing caught on, way before! This was in 88 or 89. He dropped in on this ramp he had never skated before and tore it a new asshole. Head high airs, inverts, body jars 3-4 ft high, Smith grinds... we were still in shock that those guys had come to Leonard’s ramp, much less the ramp destruction we were witnessing .....and then came the lip slide💥!!!!!!! Christian did a barn burning run, and then did a blazing front side lip slide 4 sheets wide (16ft) and hung up coming in like an old pair of pants on a clothes line blowing in the wind! When I say hung...I mean HUNG!! Straight to the flat! Bounced!! Like he fell from a 12 ft ladder! It just sucked the wind right out of him. He just layed there for about a minute, then Monty helped him up... dusted himself off, and they were gone as quick as they had come. Shit legends are made of... folklore shit! We were so amped after he left. Slam or no slam, he fuckin’ ripped in those couple of runs, like nothing we had ever seen, much less padless! I met Christian a couple years later when I became pro and became pretty good friends with him from hanging out at Woodward and doing demos over the years. I asked him years later ( at least 10) if he remembered a ramp in Tarpon Springs that he and Monty came to skate? His reply was.....Didn’t I hang up on a lip slide???? Boy did you ever!!! You left an imprint on the flat bottom, and an impression on my buddies and I that will last a lifetime. Miss sk (at The Dark Slide)

This sexy beast right here is the Loris Loughlin on Totem and it is just one board included in the latest selection of skate craft from Welcome's Spring 2017 collection which is now available and ready to make all of your Valentine's Day dreams come true! Check out more on www.surfzonepuertorico.com and then give us a visit to pick something up for yourself or for that special someone! This board is 8.8" x 32.75" and it is a modern take on a classic Monty Nolder shape, so it should be good for throwing down some sweet Monty grinds! #welcomeskateboards (at Surf Zone)

Hey, y’all i am drunk so skateboard nerd crap. Skateboarders have issues with trick names. For example: Ollie backside into a smith stall and piv or Ollie out it’s a back smith in a ramp but, if you pivot in or grind it you just monte grinded. Bs frontside grab is the only indy according to big skateboard nerds( even bigger nerds require a tucked knee). If you are younger than 18 you call this trick above an over willy but, if you are a little older the stall is an over anchor and the grind is a Losi.
