I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again, “I love writing my monthly favourites posts!” (Even though this one took almost all of February to publish lol) These posts are more for me than anything. I mean, my other posts are for me as well, but these ones are probably loved more by me…

My Mid-Year Reading Review

Half the year has flown by since I published my reading goals for 2024 post. I have a loose idea of the numbers, though I don’t go into any fancy percentages with genres or tropes, so let’s see where I’m at. february 2024 favourites

February was a month where I rested a lot. here are the things that I loved when I was up to doing stuff!

1. curling my hair

curling my hair is annoying because it takes 40 minutes, but now that my hair is longer I really the look of it curled. I've been curling it about once a week while listening to a podcast (see below). my friend so kindly gifted me a heat protectant spray and it feels so luxurious to spray it on before I curl my hair now.

2. ACOTAR

I started reading the infamous ACOTAR book series this month, and I really enjoyed them! it's a world I can get easily lost in, especially if I don't think too hard about the plot. something about the books feels very comforting to me, à la Twilight. I'm wrapping up the third book right now, and I'm looking forward to seeing how the plot unfolds.

3. Black History Month books

I read some great books for Black History Month, and I enjoyed reading them in the condensed period of a month. I think it allowed me to piece the knowledge I had learned from the different books together about what it means to be a Black person in this world. my particular favourites were Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi and The Bluest Eye by Toni Morrison.

4. podcasts

I generally only listen to podcasts from people I already know from another platform, so I don't listen to too many. that being said, I discovered podcasts that I found myself getting excited for the next episode: Liz Gets Loaded (about money and anxiety because she has both), Working Title (a lifestyle podcast run by YouTuber Margot Lee), and Last Word (exploring what it means to try creating for a living by author Lauren Layne and comedian Anthony LeDonne).

5. rest

after a busy 6 months, this has been a much-needed quieter month. I came down with a cold at the beginning of February, which forced me to get rest. I appreciated that. I listened to my body, drank copious amounts of hot teas, read a lot, and took days off when I was sick. now I'm all rejuvenated and ready to get back into the full swing of things for March!

Hello and welcome to a little recap of January 2024! I cannot believe that this month is already over, I feel like it flew by and I have no idea how it happened. But, I have to say the year is off to a really great start! I went on a real fun adventure, I finished a few projects, and I even read a few books. I know…I actually read not just one, but multiple books. Did I get my reading mojo back?…

Good Omens graphic novel update: February 2024

Happy February 29th. A day that only happens once every four years deserves something special, so let’s dive right in.

ComicScene Awards win!

Good Omens: The Official (and Ineffable) Graphic Novel won the award for Best Crowdfunder at the ComicScene Awards! We want to say a huge THANK YOU; it’s an award voted for entirely by comics fans, so we appreciate the continued enthusiasm and championing of the Kickstarter. You can read more about the award here. A nice companion to the Comedy.co.uk Award win for Season 2 as Best TV Comedy Drama, and the British Film Designers Guild Planet Positive Award. Wahoo.

Another ongoing thanks for sharing what you’d like to see in the eventual Good Omens merch store. We’ll have a few new things available via the PledgeManager directly from your suggestions - mainly alternative designs and variants for some add ons, with ambitions for plenty more on the official store. The list you’ve helped us put together is quite ambitious, but we’re up to the challenge *looks up how to make actual angel wings* 

(joking… we think?)

Interactive Fiction Showcase 2024

Showcase your Game!

The Interactive Fiction Showcase is a year-long "jam" meant to collect and showcase Interactive Fiction games completed in 2024, and show how diverse the Interactive Fiction scene is! And maybe: build more bridges between the community, help people finding their new favourite game/author...

Whether it is long or short, an easy adventure or a complicated puzzle, a strange experiment, a quick creation, or a years-in-the-making game, come show off what you've made!

Are you more of a player? Then, come check this page regularly for new submissions! Maybe leave a rating or a comment too :)

This is an unranked event.

Rules:

The Showcase is open to IF games in all of its forms: kinetic, choice-based, hyperlinks, parser, visual novels... As long as it is Interactive Fiction (there is interactivity and the focus of the game is on the text), the entry will be accepted.

The Showcase is open to IF games in any language.

Entries must be playable and in its complete form when submitted. Completed games in 2024, whose demo was previously public, are welcome. Games submitted to other events (jams/competitions) are welcome.

Entries can include NSFW content, as long as it is indicated in the submission.

Entries should not include any generated AI content - or it will be removed.

Spam or hateful content will be removed.

Creating Interactive Fiction:

Interactive Fiction is a text-based narrative medium, where players can interact with the story in some fashion (input commands, click a link/button, press key). There are many different ways of creating IF, and many different programs to do so. You can find some mentioned below:

IFDB

The IFDB, or Interactive Fiction Database, is an IF game information catalogue, creating a historical record of the IF landscape. The database is a community project, updated by its members, by adding titles to the directory, ratings games, writing reviews... If a listing has not yet been created for your game, please consider making one!

IF Archive

The IF Archive is an archive of Interactive Fiction games, and IF-related elements (walkthroughs, interpreters, articles, collections...). The Archive’s mission is to preserve the history and practice of interactive fiction and make it freely available to the public. If you wish to, you can upload a copy of your game to the IFArchive, through the IFDB listing of your game (recommended) or directly to the archive.

And They Were Roommates by @14carrotghoul (book-verse)

@na-dineee: Alex and Henry get to know themselves and each other after they move in together. This story is not sugarcoated at all, very realistic - just how life is, and so so sweet. Also, unfortunately, rather short, but still worth the read - as are many other stories by this author, such as the 'Las flores' series.

Spirit of the Season by @pridepages (book-verse)

@heybuddy-drabbles: A little late to the game but I finally read E.J's Christmas story. Her way of story telling doesn't disappoint in this shorter tale (by her standards). It's not lighthearted and it touches some difficult topics (mostly canon) but it's all worth it because of the way they fall in love through Christmas Eve/night. Can't recommend it enough!

Where There Are Octobers by @iboatedhere (book-verse)

@na-dineee: 31 short chapters that are just really fun to read! Some are post-canon or canon-compliant, others are AUs - but in all of them the characters are so beautifully drawn, true to how we know and love them! A vet AU, a hospital AU, major fluff, even an X-Files AU - and who knows, maybe one or two dribbles will turn into more?! Fingers crossed!

The Art of Losing by bigfishbigpond (book-verse)

@dot524: If you think the mid-story breakup should have been longer and more angsty, here’s the story for you. An interesting and heartfelt story of what Henry and Alex are like apart, and what pulls them back together.

@magnificentandcoolfez: A bit of good ADHD angst (with some comfort ofc). I like the focus on how hard adhd can be and it's a short and good read for those who like comfort that comes in the shape of your crush holding you until you feel grounded again.

@na-dineee: This story is not just slow burn, it is glacial burn. It's an college AU, set in New York, and so slow, so tender, so fluffy - after reading it I was floating on cloud 9 for quite a while. I don't know if you feel the same way, but it's funny how changing one given variable somehow changes the whole dynamic between the two of them. Or is it just me?! Either way, it's so wholesome to tag along as their love blossoms, I still feel so hugged and cared for.

@myheartalivewrites: a post-apocalyptic story that is unlike any other. There are no zombies or gore, but instead it focuses on rebuilding and the softest love growing between Alex and Henry, surrounded by family and friends. I kinda wanted to live there by the end of it.

@zwiazdziarka: several fairy tale tropes meet to create this absolutely amazing story. It has dreaminess of a fable, best kind of yearning of your favourite slow burn fics and a little bit of adventure of a fantasy novel.

but to say that I'm a rainbow, to tell me that I'm bright (when I'm so used to feeling wrong, well, it helps me feel alright.) by What_Is_A_Mild_Opinion (book-verse)

@zwiazdziarka: Fandom is really sleeping on this one! This story is a canon rewrite with characters reimagined as creatures with animal characteristics. The wordbuilding is so fantastic that even if you are not a fan of long fics following canon step by step, it's absolutely worth to check this even for a chapter or two and get to know these wonderful versions of Alex and Henry. (Alex is literally rainbow.)

@na-dineee: I think the author is very well known among all rwrb fanfic readers. I really, really liked these two stories, like a lot: Two 5+1 fics, one from Pez's point of view, the other from Bea's - unfortunately both characters are given too little attention in the book imho. As expected, both narrators are sharply observing, protective of Henry, loving, honest, tender - and you end up loving Henry (and Alex) even more.

Seconds felt like hours, he shivered as time stopped still. Louis opened up his now glistening eyes, he held his breath and bit tightly on his bottom lip trying to prepare himself for the moment he had so carefully avoided for 3 long years.

The curtain pulled back.

" Yes yes you have guessed right well done, it is indeed Harry Styles, you can close your gawping mouth now mate. Ill even be nice and give you a tour t-shirt, then you can get the hell off my fucking tour bus and back to...."

"L..Louis?"

Or One stormy night popstar Harry and accountant Louis are reunited after 3 long years apart. Harrys manager is dangerous and controlling can Louis save him before it's too late.

Harry needs to feel something, even if it's pain. Louis gives what he needs.

SINFUL SUNDAY UPDATE AS OF 3/12/23

Firstly, on the Sundays of December 24th and 31st, I won't be posting anything for Sinful Sunday. Given that it's the Christmas season and I'll be with my family, I've decided that the last Sinful Sunday of the year 2023 will be on Sunday, the 17th.

Due to the high volume of requests every Sunday, it's become physically challenging to complete all of them in a single day. To address this, I'm implementing a new rule – I'll be posting approximately 5 pieces for every Sinful Sunday. Any requests remaining in my inbox will be automatically scheduled for the following weekend.

I'll be adjusting the priority for Sinful Sunday requests, giving top priority to those that come in off-anon. While anonymous questions are still welcomed, I'll be initially focusing on non-anonymous requests.

I'm aware many of you enjoy the Hantengu Clones, but I kindly request not to ask for similar scenarios with different clones once a scenario has already been published with one of them.

I'm open to delving into darker content, so feel free to share your more intense thoughts/thirsts with me without hesitation! 🔥

Clumsy - Pairing:Astarion x female Tav. Set in Act I, before Astarion confesses to being a vampire. Tav has always been a little clumsy, but it was nothing too inconvenient until Astarion came along. Since then, whenever Tav’s blood would spill, he would be there.

Part of his plan - Pairing: Astarion x female Tav. Set in Act II, just after the tiefling party. Astarion was sure that being indispensable to Tav was the best way to secure his place by her side. And this is where his sewing skills would come in handy.

A welcome distraction - Pairing:Astarion x female Tav. Set in Act II. Astarion was not nice. Nothing about him was even remotely nice. Such a bland, plain word that carried little to no meaning. But perhaps, given the right incentive, he could be persuaded to be nice to the one person who he felt deserved it most.

Honeycomb - Pairing:Astarion x female Tav. Set in the beggining of Act II. Astarion had a brilliant, fool-proof plan. And nothing, especially not a piece of honeycomb, would get in the way.

Yours, if you'll have me - Pairing: Astarion x female Tav. Set in Act II. Astarion found the letter on the ground between his tent and Gale’s earlier this morning. Not thinking much of it, Astarion swiped it, hoping to get a piece of juicy gossip. Gale having a secret admirer, how fun! He didn’t realise that the contents were meant for him. And from their leader, no less!

Upon reflection, I find you perfect - Pairing: Astarion x female Reader. Set post-game. You find a way for Astarion to see his reflection for the first time in over 200 years.

Two-shots

Brunch - Pairing:Astarion x female Tav. AU two-shot (no Cazador, elf Astarion). Another, better emotionally equipped male would probably just ask Tav out. Like on an actual proper date at a nice venue rather than sticking to their monthly meeting for brunch as a pathetic excuse for spending time with her. But that was the crux of the problem. Astarion had absolutely zero clue as to how to be in a relationship.

comments: this chapter it's pretty Sadie/Oscar heavy :) and I'm not sorry for how long it took me to write...

But [Lando] felt that he’d missed out on months with Sadie. It felt like he had lost time to catch up on.

Sadie, much to her own shagrin, felt similar. So she spent the next two weeks building a dynamic with five drivers.  

She’d given Max permission to share her number with any driver that asked for it; she received texts from Lewis and Daniel.

Max never insisted on anything more than he already had. A monthly check in that she was alive and okay. But Sadie felt less like her presence would put Max in danger with each passing day, and opened up to him more. It was only really about things she liked, movies, books and music, but it was a step.

Lewis had facetimed her almost immediately. He’d said it was too ‘see if she was lying to him’ with a concerned little smile. They spoke for hours, well into the night for Sadie. At one point, he’d insisted that she set the phone where he could see her walk around so he could be sure she’d healed.

Lewis, nearing 40, earned the title ‘Old Man’ when he said that Sadie should go and sleep.

Daniel earned the nickname ‘WA’s Bitch’ when he’d bragged about Western Australia to make her laugh. It had worked, even if Sadie had stuck true to her ‘Victoria is better’ opinion.

The Perth-born man had first contacted her to make sure she was okay. He didn’t thank her for what she’d done at Silverstone, everyone else had done that already and the older driver knew his friend was okay. He didn’t know if Sadie was and he’d made it a mission to make her laugh at any opportunity.

Sadie was one hundred percent sure that Daniel had figured out some details about her life that Max hadn’t. The older driver had more experience with Australian society and cultural expectations. But he didn’t ask and Sadie hoped he never would.

Lando, on the other hand, asked everything. He texted sporadically, at random times of the day or night in both her timezone and his. He sent her behind the scenes photos of anything and everything he was working on. Most of the time it was a silly photo of Max Fewtrell.

He wouldn’t send a large text, it would be six or seven small ones that culminated in his point or opinion on a topic.

Sadie never answered any questions she didn’t want to, and Lando respected that.

Oscar rarely asked anything, except for how her day was and if she was free to talk. His texts were consistent. Full conversations, rather than split by 4 hours like her conversations with Lando.

Her fellow Melbournian never asked about her past, but he would send her memes he found funny and links to instagram posts of cute animals.

For two weeks, there was a pattern. Sadie would text Max and Oscar about her life as it was then, like if her shift was bad or if her favourite regulars had come by the bar that day. She’d reply to whatever chaos Lando or Daniel had sent her and laugh at their antics. She’d call Lewis a couple times each week and talk about how her life had changed in the 6 months since Silverstone.

It was a nice pattern. Sadie tackled the more recent past with Lewis’ help, laughed about the present with Daniel and Lando, and thought of what she wanted after talking to Max or Oscar.

They were simple conversations but she was building some bonds with people she liked.

It was cracked by a simple question.

Sadie's faint smile fell to a frown as she realised how stubborn Daniel was going to be.

Sadie hoped she’d conveyed how serious she was. As far as she was concerned, there was no family to talk about and no family to spend Christmas with.

Sadie had no family.

Her phone chimed with another text from Daniel.

She did. 

Come to Monaco. 

Come to Europe. 

You don’t have to pay for a thing, kid. 

Sadie sighed and, opting to ignore Max, called Oscar. 

"Sadie? You've never called, everything okay?" he mumbled, obviously half asleep.

"Everything's fine, Piastri, calm down," she deadpanned.

There was a sigh of relief and a rustle of sheets on the other end of the line.

"Are you in bed? Mate, you're 23 and in bed by 10?" Sadie teased.

He'd returned to his mum's house for the holidays and had told Sadie as soon as he'd flown in. She knew it was an invitation to make plans, see each other face to face, but his ability to draw a crowd wherever he went nagged at her.

She heard his soft chuckle as he said, "I went karting today, I'm exhausted."

"Should I let you go then?" Her voice was still teasing but she knew she should let him sleep.

"No," he murmured. "No. I have nowhere to be tomorrow, we can talk."

"Really? No last minute shopping tomorrow?"

"Nah, that's all been done already."

"Organised," she mused.

“Yeah, yeah,” he sighed, dry sarcasm dripping from his voice.

But it changed.

“Sadie.” Sheets rustled and moved as he stood up and she heard him move about his room. “Why did you call?”

“I-“ 

She didn’t have an answer for him. Say nothing, her mind screamed. Say everything, something else argued. 

“Sadie?” 

“Relax, Piastri, I'm not in trouble.” She drawled, as if she had nothing to care about. “I’m bored and I didn’t expect you to be half-asleep by 9:45.” 

Her phone vibrated in her hand. A text from Max. Ignored. 

“Sure,” Oscar replied and Sadie knew he hadn’t believed her. 

But he didn’t ask again. 

Instead, Sadie heard the rattle of keys. 

“How about we meet? Go for a drive together and talk face to face?” 

“Now?” 

“Yeah.” 

What? 

As if spurred on by her silence, Oscar added, “I know a car park, we can swap into your car, or mine. We can drive around, and talk.” 

“Your car is a bright orange McLaren.” 

She could hear the grin in his voice, as he said. “It’s papaya.” 

“My point still stands,” she said through a laugh. 

“There’s always your car.” 

Sadie’s heart was pulled in two. Oscar was offering a distraction, and moreover, he was offering a tangible link in their friendship. But there was risk, and if they were seen, was she ready? 

“Alright fine, but don’t bring the McLaren,” she conceded. 

Her phone vibrated with the address, like Oscar had already typed it out. Maybe he had.

Three hours later, Sadie was laughing so hard her ribs hurt. Oscar, cleaning the dashboard of Sadie’s car with a tissue, was apologising for spilling the lemonade. 

“Sadie,” he whined with another apologetic smile, “I’ll buy us more!” 

“No!” She laughed. “No! You’ll spill it again!” 

“Hey!” he cried, but he dissolved into a fit of giggles too. “You’re the one who said Alexander Hamilton was more famous than Lewis Hamilton!” 

Sadie laughed louder. “In America, I said. In America! Ask Logan!” 

Oscar pulled his phone out and texted the Williams driver, still giggling. 

“He’s going to agree with me,” Sadie added. 

She couldn’t stop her eyes while he wasn’t looking. Her gaze traced the swoop of his unkempt hair and the soft crinkle of the skin next to his eyes as he smiled. She watched the way his eyebrows curved and his gaze flickered between the different letters he was typing. 

She didn’t expect him to look up. 

Brown eyes met brown eyes. 

There was an unmeasured heartbeat, an involuntary pause. Laughter died, falling away to soft giggles and then silence. Loud, irrevocable silence. The only light was his phone, illuminating the absence of noise. 

But one thing was clear in a hundred different ways. 

A connection. A link. Something. 

 Oscar looked away first. 

“I know,” he whispered into the dark.  

He always does, a little voice whispered.

“Know what?” Sadie asked. 

“That you’re not ready. That you may never be ready.” 

She wanted to ask what he meant by ready. She knew what she meant, but did he mean the same thing? Sadie wanted to know.

She didn’t ask. 

“But either way,” he continued. The young driver’s eyes were firmly forward. “I’ve enjoyed tonight. Seeing you in person and seeing you laugh has been…urrm, well it’s been reassuring.” 

“Reassuring?” Sadie didn’t take her eyes off him. 

“I- we- we were worried about you,” Oscar said, an edge creeping into his voice. “Emotionally, I mean. You were so tense the last time I saw you and I know the trial probably made it worse…” 

His hand went to his hair, sweeping away from his face. It had grown again, into his eyes. A part of Sadie wanted to tuck the brown strands behind his ear. 

Oscar’s face turned, eyes catching her gaze again before he glanced down, like the handbrake was the most interesting mechanical marvel he’d ever seen. 

Sadie was going to break the new silence with some kind of confession, about what she wasn’t sure, when Oscar yawned. 

She laughed, and nudged his shoulder with a hand. “Come on, Piastri. Let’s get you home.” 

His smile, and that crinkle of skin next to his eyes, returned. 

The drive from the small lookout to the car park in which Oscar left his mum’s car was short. Sadie made conversation by asking about Oscar’s season. 

“I’m proud of you, you know,” she commented as he opened the passenger door. 

He paused and looked back at her. “Thank you. And thank you for congratulating me on Qatar.”  

“Max told you?” 

Oscar hauled himself out of her car, and turned back, leaning through the doorway. 

“Yeah, after some slight manipulation.” 

Sadie returned his bright smile with her own. “I bet it didn’t take much.” 

“No, not really,” Oscar confessed. 

With a wave of her hand and a tilt of her head, Sadie said, “go home, Piastri. Text me when you get there.” 

“Drive safe.”

“You too.” 

Oscar closed her door gently, waved through the window and walked to his mothers car. Sadie waited for him to enter it before she, once again, disappeared into the night.

january 2024 favourites

this is a few weeks late but I still wanted to do a favourites post because I love talking about things I love and that's what February is about!

1. reading

I found it more difficult to find the time to read once I started working, but in January I really had the time to read as much as I used to. reading became a big source of comfort and escapism this month. I'm so pleased about this because I was going through a reading slump in November/December where I didn't like the books I was reading.

2. East of Eden by John Steinbeck

this was my favourite book this month! it is a bit of an uneven book with some less interesting storylines, but overall I remained curious about what happens to the characters. John Steinbeck's writing had some beautiful moments and I highlighted a lot of quotes. I thought the ending of the book wrapped up the storyline and message in a lovely way. one of my favourite classic books I've read for sure.

3. bullet journal

I am just a girl who loves a to do list. it helps me brain dump, prioritize, and focus on what needs to get done. and I love writing in a physical notebook still, especially with thick pages that are so luxurious to write in.

4. pilot G2 pens

these are my absolute favourite pens. I ran out this month and bought a new pack. they write so smoothly and don't have a cap, which I find extremely convenient for speed.

5. content creation

during a difficult month, I found Tumblr and YouTube to be little bright clouds. I pushed myself to post daily on Tumblr in January, and I found that forcing myself to be more creative made me more creative. I also posted another YouTube video at the end of the month and although it was challenging to do, it was so rewarding to learn more skills!
