Note
Tbf you literally can use your zombies for good in SS, that's what a summoner is
Gameplay and story segregation anon,
The monsters (entombed, mogalls, skeletons etc) are seen as abominations and signs of Fomortiis' returning power.
Morva, Monica and Vigarde are used, in game, to depict how twisted and malevolent it is to resurrect the dead, Morva in particular can turn against his daughter - who's to say those randos Knoll/Ewan summons weren't former Grado soldiers ?
Sure it's fun and I love sending random phantoms (and to see them survive lol) at units for fun, but it's just a gameplay mechanic.
If the end of the story's message (or one of them) is "don't bring back dead people, learn to move on" it's not to have Ewan bring back Ross's mom as a zombie and to send her fight against bandits who are terrorizing his village!

Chapter 16 Part 1: Going home to Renais
Before Ephraim's army goes back to Renais, I need to favoritize my favoritest favorite.
The Metis Scroll will boost Lute's stat gains by 5% in all stats, and the body ring gives her another 2 con.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I consider being truly degenerate and giving her the boots too, but I decide to give them to Tethys instead. More move for a dancer so they can keep up with the rest of the army is always good.
Tumblr media
I also sell Luna and Eclipse. They have bad hit, and I don't currently have any dark magic units that I'm using. I'll field Knoll in some of the maps with big deployment limits, but I also plan to get a Guiding Ring for him and to make him a summoner, so he'll probably be summoning almost every turn and not really using tomes much.
Tumblr media
Arriving in Renais, Ephraim at first can hardly believe it's his home country given how ravaged by war it is now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Somehow, Seth has gotten intel on the situation, and he reports that the traitor, Orson, is in charge here.
When Ephraim mentions that something had seemed off about Orson even before he turned on Renais, Seth mentions that Orson's wife died about half a year ago, and that it was really hard on him. Orson was well known amongst the knights as a major wife guy.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's reported that Orson mostly stays in his private chambers, barely giving out orders, and barely eating or sleeping. He also allows no one to come in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Oh, and Myrrh tells us that now she'll fight!
Tumblr media
The scene cuts to inside the castle. Lyon appears and talks to two guards, one of whom doesn't recognize him at first. After Lyon has gone on into Orson's room, the guard says, "...What's up with him? What a creepy kid!"
Tumblr media
The guy also brings up how weird Orson is and wonders what the hell he's doing in the king's chambers.
The other guy is like, "Who the fuck knows? As long as I'm getting paid, I'm good."
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And then the scene moves to Orson, in the king's chambers.
This is where Sacred Stones hints at one of the single creepiest scenes in any Fire Emblem game ever, in my opinion. (The scene after the map is complete.)
Orson says, "What's wrong, Monica?"
Tumblr media
"Ha ha! Of course I know what's going on! It's your birthday, right?"
Tumblr media
This is where Lyon enters the room.
He at first questions if Orson even recognizes who he is, and describes himself as "The one whom you owe for bringing back your precious wife."
That's right. The Monica Orson is talking to is his wife, who died half a year ago...
Tumblr media
Orson warns Lyon, "This is Monica's and my private place! I won't let anyone interfere!" He tells Lyon that he fulfilled his part of the deal and turned on Renais, so he has no further business with Lyon.
Lyon doesn't push the issue and leaves soon after, but first he taunts Orson by warning that Ephraim is coming back, and that since Orson is a traitor, Ephraim will probably kill him and his wife.
Tumblr media
Before we start the map, here's our team.
I'm bringing Rennac this time since there are a number of chests and doors to open. Tana is taking a break, as are Seth and Duessel still.
Tumblr media
Also, here's Myrrh. I'm not bringing her to this map, but I'll have other chances to train her up later. I played Binding Blade not that long ago, where Fae only gets, what, 30 uses or her dragon stone? So I was surprised to see 50 uses here. I'd forgotten how many more Myrrh gets.
She's kinda broken actually.

Well, I just spent a few hours on this. Thanks, ADHD Hyperfixations. Anyways, here’s the general ages I came up with for the Three Frats AU relative to the 3H cast’s ages in the academy phase. Some are canon, others are modified canon, and others are straight up vibe guesses. I didn’t include any of the shapeshifters on here since they’re up in the air.
31+ - Vaida, Renault, Saber, Valbar, Gregor, Basilio, Flavia, Volke, Reina, Yukimura, Shura, Gilliam, basically anyone old enough to have their own kids or just obviously older than 30 something 30 - Arvis, Uther, Oswin, Hawkeye, Deen, Miriel, Libra, Shinon, Azama, Arthur (Fates) 29 - Aida, Pent, Louise, Dorcas, Isadora, Harken, Karla, Zeke, Stefan, Izana, Emmeryn, Gerik, Tethys 28 - Claud, Bartre, Natalie, Mathilda, Kamui, Fredrick, Virion, Sigrun, Gatrie, Xander, Saizo 27 - Beowulf, Lucius, Canas, Farina, Legault, Clive, Robin, Say'ri, Bastian, Heather, Tanith, Ryoma, Kagero, Scarlet, Glen (FE8) 26 - Balthus, Arden, Hector, Rath, Leila, Geitz, Karel, Lloyd, Linus, Sully, Cordelia, Kellam, Lon'qu, Calil, Rhys, Camilla, Orochi, Setsuna, Niles, Nyx, Benny 25 - Sigurd, Eldigan, Quan, Naoise, Ayra, Lewyn, Chulainn, Eliwood, Kent, Raven, Matthew, Dart, Fiora, Python, Forsyth, Sonia, Chrom, Vaike, Stahl, Cherche, Zihark, Lucia, Hinoka, Beruka, Peri, Joshua, Saleh, Cormag 24 - Edain, Brigid, Alec, Jamke, Lex, Sain, Lowen, Lukas, Leon, Jesse, Sumia, Gaius, Tharja, Geoffrey, Oscar, Jakob, Effie, Charlotte, Seth 23 - Deirdre, Tailitu, Azelle, Midir, Erinys, Wil, Heath, Ursula, Palla, Maribelle, Olivia, Henry, Kieran, Makalov, Kaze, Azura, Natasha, Glenn (3H), Rennac 22 - Mercedes, Lachesis, Lyn, Florina, Luthier, Lissa, Aran, Nephenee, Felicia, Flora, Rinkah, Silas, Syrene 21 - Jeritza, Byleth, Sylvia, Serra, Erk, Priscilla, Tatiana, Conrad, Ricken, Elincia, Marcia, Astrid, Boyd, Leo, Takumi, Oboro, Hinata, Artur, L'Arachel 20 - Hubert, Hapi, Catria, Atlas, Ike, Fiona, Jill, Mia, Lute, Innes, Knoll 19 - Sylvain, Yuri, Leonie, Finn, Dew, Guy, Rebecca, Silque, Berkut, Rinea, Fernand, Donnel, Pelleas, Ilyana, Tormod, Hana, Subaki, Mozu, Erika, Ephraim, Colm, Niemi, Forde, Kyle, Lyon 18 - Dorothea, Dedue, Raphael, Lorenz, Hilda, Constance, Monica, Jaffar, Gray, Faye, Clair, Mist, Soren, Hayato, Vanessa, Tana 17 - Edie, Dimi, Claude, Bernie, Ferdie, Felix, Ingrid, Marianne, Ignatz, Alm, Tobin, Celica, Mae, Sothe, Laura, Sakura, Elise 16 - Caspar, Linhardt, Ashe, Annette, Nino, Est, Boey, Genny, Leonardo, Meg, Ross 15 - Lysithea, Petra, Kliff, Edward, Franz 14 - Cyril, Oifey, Amelia, Ewan 13 - Delthea, Sanaki, Shannan
--
You entering a trace and emerging with an age list of (I presume) every FE that you’ve ever played. It happens. I get it. (I do have to point out that Saizo and Kaze are twins, so maybe we split the difference on their estimates? 25? 26?)
Mostly however I am going to be thinking about the 13-year-olds tier. There is such powerful energy there. I don’t know what’s going to happen if you put the three of them in the same room, but I know it will be happening, and there is no force on all the continents that could stop them if they put their mind to something.

The Thing That Lives Under The Bed -- The Conclusion
Tumblr media
art by @starker-sorbet
a snugglefic for @mrstarksbaby
This it the Coda for The Thing That Lives Under The Bed.
Did you wonder what Peter and his friends did once they got their hands on ALL those spellbooks?  Did you wonder what would happen to those spirits trapped in the books, calling for Peter to set them free?  Maybe you were curious what would happen if Peter performed the spell of the Kings of the East and the King of the West, splitting Tony in two?
I will be posting one chapter a day #OnHere, in honor of the place where the story began.
                              -------------------------------------------------------
                                                Adulthood
                                   Angel In The Darkness
In addition to realizing that he is in love with the thing that lives under his bed, Peter Parker and his friends have also discovered an underground library full of spellbooks, spirits calling out to be freed and the promise of any number of superpowers.
You may be wondering what they did next.
This is not the answer to that question.
Tumblr media
The drumming had begun, which meant the Disciples would begin the dance of Evorá, or at least, a modified version of it.  Rumor was the whole ceremony was going to be shortened considerably, due to the fact that the High-High Priest had other engagements tonight.  Multiple engagements.  That was a problem, because it meant Angel had no idea how much time he had.  When the Evorá dance began, it should have given him seven minutes, minimum.  He was certain he could cover a lot of ground in seven minutes.  He was determined.
Slipping into the forest that surrounded the ceremony field was easy.  Far too involved in their complicated ritual, walking and chanting and lighting the torches in the interlocking triangles (cleverly paved with expensive mosaic stones, a gift from one of the many wealthy practitioners of the Lavern Post Healing Center) no one was likely to notice if one of the audience members slipped into the darkness.  Especially one skinny, ragged barefoot kid.  Angel might not have enough time, but he had some time.
He ran.
It was with some sadness that Angel fled from the Post Compound – it wasn’t exactly a bad place.  It had been his home for so long, for longer than he could remember, really.  Once upon a time he had said he never wanted to leave there, and Peter Parker, the founder of the entire kit and kaboodle, the High-High Priest himself, had assured Angel that he never had to leave.  Not like the other practitioners, the pilgrims from Santa Barbara and Palm Beach and Manhattan.  All of them said they wanted to live at their Winter retreat (or their Spring retreat (or their Autumn retreat, depending on why they came, what kind of healing they needed) but Peter Parker had said that Angel was different.  That Angel could stay.
And there were so many people at the Post Compound that Angel cared for.  Loved, really.  Not High Priest Matthew, of course, who scared Angel badly and was constantly trying to control how much he ate, and not Dr. Wickham who shooed him away whenever he entered the room and never let him help.  Certainly not Anton, who never spoke to him and always warded him off with a jealous glare.
But Mark and John were always good to him, most of the time (Mark and John were really Sarah D. and Monica.  But all the Disciples had two names.)  Laura Foster was also sweet to him, always had a kind word or two for him, even if she was kindly telling him he couldn’t eat.
Yes, those that would talk to Angel were sweet to Angel.  Not like Anton.  No one was sweet to Anton.  Anton, who never seemed to stop arguing, who only existed to play devil’s advocate.  Angel was everybody’s angel.  And Angel loved them all.
And there were so many places within the compound that he hated to leave behind.  The rows of tiny cabins filled with wealthy clientele cheerfully “roughing it” in efficiency rooms with minifridges.  The underground Chapel of St. Cyprian where jaded New Yorkers found themselves weeping with joy and never knowing why.  The secret libraries where only the first- and second-circles were allowed to go, but he was allowed to pour over the magic books for as long as he wanted.  He loved those ancient books, loved to brag that he could read them all (and had read them all)  Loved to be sent to look up some obscure spell or journal entry when one of the Disciples, and sometimes one of the second-circle magicians, remembered to ask him.
Angel loved being helpful.
He wasn’t being helpful now.  His absence was going to be noticed at some point, and that was going to disrupt the ceremony.  He didn’t allow himself to look up into the sky to see if the fairy-lights had started.  If they had, that meant the joining had begun, and then… oh High Priest Matthew was going to be so angry when he found out.  Angel shuttered at the thought of it.  The High Priest had a terrible temper (that’s why his OTHER name in the compound was The Hulk.)  Matthew’s servant, Firedrake, was even scarier.  Angel couldn’t stand the idea of facing either one of them.
But there was nothing to be done about it now, so he ran faster.
The drums were ending behind him – that meant that the reading of the prayers had begun.    That meant he might have another half-hour, if all the prayers were read.  Puck and Oberon would step into the circle first.  But when evil-eyed Anton stepped into the middle of the circle… that’s when they would notice Angel was missing.  Another half-hour.  Even if they read the prayers very quickly.  Some parts of the ceremony couldn’t be skipped over.  Angel knew.  Angel had read all the books.
He was whispering the prayers even now as his swift feet took him out of the woods and straight into a moonlit patch of ferns.  He moaned in relief as he ran…
…only to cry out loud in despair as his feet took him just as quickly past the ferns and into a field of ragweed.
No, no, no !  Angel fled the ragweed to the first clear patch of grass that he could see – ragweed was deadly to anyone trying to avoid detection from the Disciples – but that just took him to a patch of moonlit sand.  He moaned in despair as his bare feet sank into it.  He covered his mouth with both hands in a vain effort to hide the sound.
He had fucked up.
He was trying to bear north.  The ferns should have given way to the ditch which would have given way to Witch Road.  From there, if he could have stayed on the pavement, he might have avoided detection and headed straight north.  He could have been well past the border of the Parker land before they even knew where to start looking for him…
But instead he drifted too far south.  He wasn’t on his way out of the Parker property.  He had stumbled right into the edge of Lovesick Lake.
In the near-full moonlight he saw all of it, those peaceful, serene knolls and gentle hills and berms that the Lavern Center patrons loved to stroll upon on pleasant nights in autumn and in Spring.  Not as many in the summer.  (Dr. Cyprian didn’t do his healing work in the summer.)  And there weren’t many visitors on winter nights.  Everyone staying at the Lavern Post Healing Center knew to avoid the woods on winter nights, if they didn’t want to run into the ghost of Evan Post.  Everyone staying at the Lavern Post Healing Center knew that the Post property was haunted.  It was the first thing they told you in the shuttle when they brought you here.  It was on the brochure.)
There was a man standing a few yards away from him now, a young man Angel’s age (although certainly dressed better than Angel was.)  He stood, unsure, upon a steep knoll, looking helplessly over the lake, clearly lost.  Angel turned automatically to back the way he had come to hide himself.  He didn’t like talking to the guests at the Healing Center when they got confused -- wasn’t supposed to talk to them, anyway.  All Confused-Guests were supposed to be gently directed to Laura Foster or to her servant, who would explain to them, calmly, that they had come to the Center to participate in Dr. Cyprian’s legendary “Memory Therapy,” and direct them to the notes they had written to themselves in case they had forgotten that fact.  80% of the patients that participated in the “Memory Therapy” chose to keep some if not the entirety of their memories, choosing, after much self-examination, to hold onto the painful past in order to also retain the strength and compassion those painful life-lessons those memories were tied to.  But as for that other 20%, well, Laura Foster was best and handling those.
But Angel couldn’t disappear into the brush the way he had come.  He turned back to face the lost guest… only to realize there had been no one there.  Angel dashed up to the knoll in confusion, but the young man was gone.
Instead he saw, stretching out all around him, the beautiful grassy banks known as the Moonlight HIlls.  This was the romantic place where more than a few visitors to the center had enjoyed in the wee hours of the morning, to hook up with other visitors, or to mope over the hookups that never happened.  This was Lovesick Lake, the place where you were SUPPOSED to come and sit on a green hill and look out over the water by moonlight to moon over that special person you couldn’t have.  Although Peter Parker only called it “Virgin Lake.”  Because, he joked, more than a few male individuals had lost a specific type of virginity to other male individuals on its moonlight shores.
There were two male individuals right now, Angel saw, holding each other and kissing in the darkness.  Angel dashed silently back toward the water to avoid them… only to look up and see he had been mistaken again.  There was no one there.  Only shadows in the moonlight.  He groaned.  He was completely alone.
He groaned again when he saw where he was standing.  Of course.  The exact place where Peter Parker had famously made Matty the first Disciple.  He had accidentally ran straight to the very first place they would come look for him the moment they noticed he was missing.  This was Lovesick Lake.   This was the Moonlight Hills.  This was where everyone came to mope when they were heartsick.  Of course this is where he would be.
He turned around and started to hurry away from the lake.  Before him lay the dark road through the forest, the path that would lead directly back to the ceremony fields where Peter Parker and his Disciples were praying.
Angel thought he heard a rustling through the trees.  In a panic he turned and ran pell-mell back to the water.  Dammit, he could WADE half way through the lake, certainly it was shallow enough, and when he got to where the lake began in earnest he would swim across.  He could make it to the other side.
Couldn’t he?
He groaned in frustration.  He didn’t feel like swimming in the middle of the night, of course he didn’t.  He was shaky and hungry and scared .  But if he didn’t keep moving they would catch him and take him back to the ceremony.  He had to escape.
He could swim all the way across the lake, he was sure of it.  Panic and adrenaline would carry him all the way.  He was skinny, but he was strong.  And he was determined.  He took three bold steps forward…
…and pulled up short the moment his bare feet touched the water.
The summer night was still, and yet the water was lapping loudly at the shore.  Was that normal for a still night?  Didn’t the wind need to be up for the water to be lapping that quickly?  In despair Angel searched his memory… god knew he had been sitting on these banks, night after night, mooning over the man he missed so badly… weren’t the waves lapping then?
He didn’t know.  He couldn’t remember.  His thoughts raced as he desperately tried to think, but when he reached out for information, it simply wasn’t there.  He had sat here on lonely nights, he was sure of it.  But suddenly he couldn’t remember where he had sat, or how he had even gotten here, or how he had gotten back.  The only thing that came to mind was the picture of the two men kissing in the darkness, the men he had seen before.  The older man strong and confident, the younger man, almost a boy, moaning and clinging desperately to his lover with bony arms.  He had only seen it for a second, but he had seen it so clearly.  He couldn’t remember who the men were, or why the memory was important.
He only knew that, in the silence of the moonlight now, the lapping of the water sounded far too loud in his ears.  Something must be moving underneath it.  He thought the water would be safe, if they hadn’t noticed he was missing.  But if they did notice, and if Monica had sent Liard after him… wouldn’t jumping into the water be the worst possible thing to do?
The men kissing on the hillside, he spun around to ask them for help, but they disappeared the moment he looked for them.  They weren’t there… they were just dreams, or the ghost of dreams.  Turning around in helpless circles, he realized what a terrible mistake he had made.
Dammit why, why, why hadn’t he just chosen to hide among the tiny cabins?  They were all empty now, the wealthy clientele who had insisted on staying into the summer (and had paid too much to be denied) had all moved out for the two days needed for the ceremonies.   Angel could have stayed hidden in those dark alleys between the rows, escaping detection until morning.  They wouldn’t have thought to look for him there.  Even Anton might have failed to look for him there.  Instead he had come here, and now…
…and now there was nowhere left to go.
He looked at the troubled lake, then looked to his left.  There the famous dead oak loomed menacingly against the black sky.  He certainly couldn’t go that way – it was lit up by a row of tiki torches that marked the border.  The few guests that were left at the Lavern Center had moved to the South House, partying the night away in their tents and pavilions as they waited for Peter and The Disciples to finish their summer rituals.  They had been allowed to stay because they had promised to stay beyond that row of torches.
Vainly, Angel fought the panic.
It wasn’t working.  He was trapped.
He had hoped that the distraction of the complicated ceremony – the Meeting of the Four Kings was an extremely complicated spell, written by Dr. Wickham himself – would give Angel the time he needed to slip away.  But what was he thinking?  All four Disciples were here tonight, as well as Peter Parker himself.  They had all come home, and now?  Along with Laura Foster that made six powerful magicians, each with multiple spirit-servants.   Not to mention the lower, second-circle magicians that might have decided tonight was the night to start showing off what they had learned.
And in a few moments, they would all notice that Angel was missing.
Angel might have been safe from Firedrake in the darkness – but dammit the spirit could easily travel through the lamplight that glowed on Dead Oak Hill.  He could avoid Firedrake as long as he didn’t try to circle around the lake to the south, but he could never go back north.  The ragweed was Sarah D’s favorite plant, and it would whisper his location to her immediately.  Plucky, her servant, could move among plants of every kind, but ragweed was its favorite.  Then there was the little matter of the high weeds that could easily turn into arms to wrap around Angel and pull him down to the ground until he was caught.  (Peter had forbidden anyone from saying it out loud, but everyone knew.  Sarah D had become an expert at tying a man down when he didn’t want to be there.)
Firedrake could move through the lamplight.  Plucky could move through the weeds.  Liard could move through the water.   He could avoid the high weeds and he could avoid the lamplight, but how the hell would he avoid Dr. Wickham’s servant Robin?
How did you run away from air?
Dammit he had to be safe in the water… didn’t he?  Surely Monica was far too busy using Liard to help her with the complicated ceremony, surely she wouldn’t send her spirit away from her on such an important day.  It had to be the water.   He had no other way to go…
…but when he turned toward the lake again he saw Matthew’s Rock waiting for him and it filled him full of horror and dread.  He could only see the tip in the lapping water but he knew… he knew what was underneath.
Tears were streaming down his face as he fought to catch his breath.  He wasn’t trying to fight the panic anymore.  The panic was winning.  His breath came in desperate gasps and hitches.  His chest ached.  His knees were buckling underneath him.  It was all he could do to keep standing.
And then he heard the trees shaking behind him.
They had sent someone.  Not a spirit, a person.  Angel could hear them leaping from tree to tree.
Angel closed his eyes tight and prayed to St. Cyprian.  He prayed it wasn’t High Priest Matthew.  Or worse, quarrelsome, sharp-eyed Anton.   Maybe it was someone gentle like Monica or Laura-Bee.  He prayed it was Laura.  Laura had a ghostly spirit named Moonlight, and while Moonlight could make you walk through fire if it told you too, Laura could make you feel perfectly content while you did it.
The last tree shuddered and bent as the magician jumped into it, then jumped from it.  It was one of the men.  He hung from a bent branch for just a moment, before somersaulting into the air spectacularly, landing in a perfect superhero pose in the sand.
All five of the original magicians could run as fast as any vehicle.  Each had clocked in at 70 miles per hour.  Sometimes they had races for the amusement of the second circle.  But there was only one of them who insisted on traveling by jumping from tree to tree.
In the pale moonlight, Peter Parker rose to his feet.  He was alone.
Angel burst into tears.

National Library Week continues.
Our first Fairview Branch Library opened in 1931 on 20th St.  and was only 15 feet wide.  In 1942, this store front library was replaced by a new building located at 2030 Pico Blvd (the bottom image).
In 1956, the Fairview Branch Library moved to its present location at 2101 Ocean Park Blvd.  During the war years, the population of southeastern Santa Monica grew dramatically due to the defense industry boom at Douglas Aircraft.  The new residents remained in Santa Monica following the war's end.
Designed by architect Weldon Fulton, the Fairview Branch Library is a classic mid-century modern building.  The original furnishings came from Eames, Knoll Associates, and Remington Rand.

2020 Best Nursing Homes - California
Tumblr media
ElderPerfect a leading publisher on senior healthcare across the United States, today announced the recipients of the Best Nursing Homes in California for 2020. These awards are designed to recognize providers based on their ability to consistently deliver excellence in the areas of Health Inspections, Quality of Residence Care, Penalties and Staffing. We’ve evaluated over 1,194 facilities, of which 324 (29%) met our top rating. This report marks the Gold Standard in terms of care for seniors. 0 Ranked Best Facilities  5/5
US Standard vs. Best Facilities
Average Number of Beds: 106 vs 95 Average Occupancy: 81% vs 83% Average Health Inspection Rating: 2.82 / 5.00 vs. 3.90 / 5.00 Average Government Rating: 3.01 / 5.00 vs. 4.49 / 5.00
Rating Methodology
Health Inspections Every year, the government assigns inspectors to conduct a formal review of nursing homes for regulatory purposes to meet the mandates outlined for Medicare and Medicaid, this aims to measure and improve the safety of residents across providers. Facilities may also be inspected when complaints are submitted or based on a reported incident. When noncompliance is identified, the facility is served a citation that indicates which regulation that was identified, along with the severity of the incident. Nursing homes are subsequently required to execute a program of resolution in order to meet compliance. Some scenarios require enforcement actions to be applied, such as a civil monetary penalty or withholding of payment(s), to incentivize resolution in a timely manner. Penalties Facilities are applied 2 types of penalties due to non-compliance / accumulation of incidents. Civil penalties are monetary fines that may be applied to a facility based on citations / infractions identified during a review. The severity of a penalty is defined primarily by the size and frequency of the infraction. Quality of Residence Care There are 3 types of resident care ratings, but for this exercise, we primarily focused on the overall quality measure rating. The quality measures (QMs) include 17 data points that are derived from clinical information reported by the respective nursing home and also from Medicare claims data submitted for payment. Ratings are calculated for the QM domain using the 4 most recent quarters for which data are available. A nursing home receives points contingent on performance on each measure (weighting distribution is not equal). Staffing Staffing research is submitted regularly by the facility and is adjusted for the requirement of the facilities residents. For each of registered nurse staff and total staffing, a 1 - 5 rating is applied according to definitions established for each category. These ratings are subsequently combined to assign an overall staffing rating. As an example, to get an overall staffing rating of 5 stars, nursing homes must earn a rating of 5 stars for both registered nurses and total staffing. Nursing homes could also be assigned a 1 star rating should they not have a registered nurse on-site daily, and do not submit staffing data, or which the data cannot be verified.

Museum and Theatre Complex in Kemerovo
15 Nov 2020
Kemerovo Museum and Theatre Complex
Design: COOP HIMMELB(L)AU
Location: Kemerovo, Russia
The Museum and Theatre Complex will create a new Cultural Hot-Spot and will become the future architectural landmark in the cityscape of Kemerovo.
The Project Site is located east of the city center between Sovetskiy Prospekt and Pritomskiy Prospekt and is embedded in Iskitimka river course landscape. The exposed location of the site provides an all-round visibility and presence of the building in the urban setting. Together with the future embankment development, the Opera will be connected with a spacious network of public promenades and squares.
The Museum and Theatre Complex is an open and transparent structure: A publicly accessible sculpture for visitors and residents of Kemerovo.
The building integrates itself confidently into the surroundings and forms with its four main functions a recognizable ensemble. A graceful, flying Theatre Cloud, two Crystals for the Museum and the Art Centre, embrace the Public 24h Foyer on top of the Plinth.
The elevated Public space distributes not only the visitors into the different functions, it also acts as a new communal meeting point for the city. Exhibitions in the Foyer, Events of different purposes and a Restaurant will add to the cultural life of Kemerovo.
In the center of the building, the heart of the project is located: an auditorium for 950 visitors including a stage tower and back of house areas. The additional functions, such as offices, VIP rooms and rehearsal rooms are arranged in the Cloud.
Towards the outer side the public space is partially glazed and offers spectacular views of the surroundings. The plinth of the building extends throughout the site, due to the difference in altitude of the ground, the plinth is forming terraces, which (as well as the restaurant inside the building) can be used at any time of the day, also during holidays and leisure time.

Time Elapsed
Trying to calculate how much time passes in the events of the game from the sparse (and somewhat inaccurate) measures of time FE8 gives us? Kinda difficult!
We don’t get much indication of how much time passes during the events of the game. So, I’ve analyzed the script to try and get a sense of the elapsed in-world time. (I intended to find out how long it takes to travel throughout Magvel, but that’s proven quite difficult--the only time we have been given a specific measure of travel time is in Chapter 9A, when Seth tells Eirika it would take 10 days from Port Kiris to Rausten by boat. Even then, it’s hard to tell whether he means they’ll reach Rausten territory, or Rausten Court.)
Given that Lyon and Syrene both use the moon to talk about the passage of time (in Chapter 18 for the former, her supports with Moulder for the latter), it’s likely that Magvelians used a lunar or lunisolar calendar. However, I’m not an expert in calendars. As such, for the sake of convenience, I’ll be measuring time under the assumption that there are 7 days in a week, 30 days in a month, 4 weeks in a month, and 12 months in a year.
(I started this for last year’s FE8Week, but never finished it. Finally got around to completing it!)
((Disclaimer: I’m not great at math so there’s a chance some of my calculations could be off.))
To cover the general timeline of the war, here is what is established in the following chapters:
Prologue: Year 803 (counting since the defeat of the Demon King. This info is also basically useless to us since we don’t have any months.)
A New Journey: A year and a half since the twins have seen Lyon
Chapter 9B: To get from Port Kiris to Rausten by boat through the North Sea will take 10 days (ended up taking a roundabout route)
Chapter 14B: A year since Vigarde died and Lyon freed the Demon King’s soul. The war started an indeterminate time later.
Chapter 16: Six months since Monica died (assuming that Seth is counting from the time of the chapter)
Chapter 18B: The events of Chapter 20/Final Chapter will take place in 10 days
Final Chapter (Ephraim): Two years since they’ve met (the real) Lyon
From the above, we can estimate that 6 months pass between A New Journey and the final chapter (approximately 12 chapters). 6 months, with the above assumption I decided on, is approximately 180 days / 26 weeks. Because the events from Chapter 18 to the Final Chapter happen in the span of 10 days, we’ll subtract those 10 days to get 170 days between A New Journey and Chapter 18. Assuming that the time between chapters is relatively even, the time between each chapter, from Chapters 8-18, is around 17 days / 2½ weeks, rounded up.
With the above calculation, that makes Chapter 14B take place around 102 days / 3½ months after A New Journey. That makes it around 21 months (almost 1¾ years) since the twins had seen Lyon. Since Knoll states that Vigarde’s death happened a year before Chapter 14, that means he died around 9 months after the twins last saw Lyon (and 9 months before A New Journey).
Doing the math:
1½ years since they last saw Lyon = 18 months = 540 days
17 days x 6 chapters = 102 days = 3.4 months
540 + 102 = 642 days / 21.4 months since the twins last saw Lyon
1 year since Vigarde died = 12 mo. = 360 days 642 - 360 = 282 days = 9.4 months between the last meeting and Vigarde’s death
While Duessel and Knoll’s support suggests that Lyon started the war against Renais immediately after reviving Vigarde, it seems quite unlikely (Knoll himself says that only Lyon knows when he decided to go to war). Even if we assume the chapters in Eirika’s first third of the story (Chapters 1-8) are the same length as Chapters 9-18, her campaign to find Ephraim would only cover 4½ months. Considering the script itself claimed Renais was unable to mount any resistance, it seems pretty unlikely that it would take the first 4½ months since Vigarde’s death for Grado to take Renais’ capital and start the story.
Furthermore, there’s the matter of Monica’s death in relation to the invasion. Seth tells Ephraim that Monica had died some 6 months prior to Chapter 16. From the prior calculations, Chapter 16 takes place around 34 days after Chapter 14′s events. If Monica died 6 months prior, that puts her death at 16½ months after the last meeting with Lyon, making a 3½-month gap between Vigarde and Monica’s deaths.
Doing the math:
540 days + 136 days (between ANJ-Ch16) = 676 days / 22½ months since they’ve seen Lyon
22.5 months - 6 months = 16.5 months / 495 days between the last meeting and Monica’s death
360 days + 34 days = 394 days / 13 months since Vigarde died
16.5 - 13 = 3.5 months between Vigarde and Monica’s deaths
Given that Seth doesn’t express any surprise that Orson knew of Monica’s death, that means that Orson was in Castle Renais when she died and not off with Ephraim. Since Ephraim’s dialogue in that chapter suggests that he immediately took off when Grado invaded, we can infer that Renais wasn’t yet at war when Monica died.
If those 3½ months between Vigarde and Monica’s death were peaceful, and the first third of the game actually takes 4½ months, then that leaves a month from when the invasion of Renais began and when Grado takes over the capital--a much more reasonable time frame.
(On that note, we don’t know how long it took for Lyon to revive Vigarde. Lyon and his mages were concerned about the rumors flying around, so there was at least enough time for people to be suspect about Vigarde’s disappearance. As historical reference, Emperor Qin Shi Huang’s death was kept a secret for two months, with certain members of his entourage going through great lengths to disguise his death and keep up appearances.)
After this, the rest of the game’s timeline is pretty straightforward. Ten days pass between Chapter 18 and Chapter 20, which we know from Lyon’s conversation with Ephraim in Chapter 18. He says that “Ten days from now… When the moon is swallowed by shadow… In Darkling Woods, I will perform a ceremony…” (As an aside, that means it’s a new moon. But the only other time the moon is referenced is in Syrene and Moulder’s supports, so that’s the furthest we’ll get with that.)
The battle in Chapter 19 seems to take place the night that the group arrives in Rausten Court, and the text suggests that they leave the next day. At the most, they spent two days in Rausten, as the second day was spent going to the temple and stocking up. Based on the world map and the length of the paths, it probably took 3 days to get from Neleras Peak to Rausten Court, and 5 from Rausten Court to Darkling Woods.
Then, when the twins finally reunite with Lyon, Ephraim tells Lyon in his route that it has been two years since they’ve last met (the real) him. In the flashback at the beginning of the chapter, a box states that the flashback takes place 1½ years ago, but it’s wrong and whoever devised the script didn’t bother making a box that would say “2 years ago.”
As a final wrap-up, here’s the game’s timeline I’ve deduced based on my calculations:
Ephraim and Eirika part ways with Lyon at Grado Keep - Our benchmark
Vigarde dies - 9 months after #1
Monica dies - 12½ months after #1
Grado invades Renais - Soon after #3
Castle Renais is captured, Eirika flees Renais - Around a month after #4
Ephraim and Eirika reunite - 1½ years after #1, 9 months after #2
Eirika defeats Carlyle but fails to save Ismaire, while Ephraim defeats Vigarde - 1¾ years after #1, 3½ months after #6
The twins retake Castle Renais - A month after #7, a year and 10 months since #1
Lyon is killed, the Demon King is resealed - Two years after #1, nearly a year since Grado’s initial invasion of Renais

Lou Ferrigno Selling in Santa Monica, Making Move Up California Coast
Frazer Harrison/Getty Images
Lou Ferrigno will always be remembered for his role as TV’s Hulk in the late 1970s. Now the actor and bodybuilder is ready to smash his way out of Southern California in favor of the Central Coast.
Ferrigno has put his charming home in Santa Monica on the market for $3.9 million, after having purchased another place farther up the coast near Pismo Beach for $2.9 million.
The home he’s selling was originally built in 1929, and has been updated over the decades. Even so, the listing details suggest to prospective buyers to “bring your architect,” a heavy hint that it may be ready for a teardown. Perhaps some elements of the original home can be preserved, but it sounds like a sure thing that work will be involved.
Records indicate that Ferrigno probably bought the property clear back in 1980, at the height of his Hulkdom, for a mere $547,000. There’s plenty of room for expansion on this deep lot in the city’s Gillette Square neighborhood.
There are no listing photos to indicate the condition of the interior, but many of the area’s older homes have already been given the modern renovation treatment.
Ferrigno’s home is listed at $1,134 per square foot, but the median listing price in the neighborhood is $1,254 per square foot, so this could be attractive for a buyer who’s up for a large-scale project.

And the investment would likely pay off. The property is just a block and a half from all the chic shops and restaurants that populate one of the most upscale neighborhoods in the L.A. area.
Meanwhile, the L.A. Times reported that Ferrigno has purchased a newer, Mediterranean-style home perched atop a knoll on California’s Central Coast. The 7,146-square-foot home has 360-degree views of the coastline and the San Luis Obispo Mountains.

Ferrigno’s new place in Arroyo Grande was built in 1980 and features five bedrooms and five bathrooms.
It also features a heated swimming pool, a gazebo, gardens, walking paths, and an 8,000-square-foot shop/barn with solar panels. The property sits on over 5.5 lush, resortlike acres.

Ferrigno, 67, has won body-building titles including Mr. America and Mr. Universe. He’s best known for playing the Hulk on the CBS TV series “The Incredible Hulk,” to Bill Bixby’s Bruce Banner.

Studio Bracket has designed the contemporary remodel of a 1949 International Style Home in Malibu, California. The original structure was built in 1949 and was the first home constructed in the Malibu Knolls region of Malibu. The house sits atop a bluff with views of the Malibu Pier, Surf Rider Beach, Malibu Lagoon to the south and the Santa Monica Mountains to the north.

Everything I read in 2018
I read the following books in 2018, in chronological order.
Books with an asterisk(*) particularly affected me.
