The new bakery in town is gaining in popularity with tourists and locals alike who look forward to Monday

It’s been eight months since Monday Bakery of Napa has taken a spot near the Plaza back October of 2023.

It seems that the new multi-pastry and other delights provider is a hit with customers. And, that the novelty phase has passed. Perhaps it’s appropriate to say “move over Basque Boulangerie!” Because, the competition has arrived!

 As local East Napa Street merchant-shopkeeper of Tiddle E Winks Five & Dime, Heidi Geffen exclaimed, “everything sells out quickly. I barely got a taste of a pumpkin cake on the grand opening day,” she said. 

And, Geffen is right, most of the items are gone by Noon.

Taking over the space that used to be Bear Moon Boutique, Sally Geftakys recognized an opportunity to expand to Sonoma when Denise Murray and Robin Pitts closed Bear Moon to retire last year. 

Offering a wide variety of sweet as well as savory creations, Monday Bakery has quickly become a coffee spot and definitely a breakfast place.

Hungry and culinary discerning customers can enjoy breakfast burritos, quiche, cake, avocado toast, cookies, Nutella banana bread, rice cereal treats, frittata, coffee cake, scones, coffee-drinks, wellness drinks and more. 

Even when offerings are few later in the day, customers still stream in to get their coffee or tea.

Unlike Basque Boulangerie, Scandia or even Sweet Pea Bakeshop on the springs-side of town, much of what Monday Bakery has to offer in the morning is on display for all to view from the large front window at the entrance. Everything is baked fresh.

A cheerful pastel decor and natural-light-infused ambiance welcomes customers to a busy behind-the counter kitchen.

Plenty of seating is on the patio out back; and with the amount of foot-traffic now along that little block of East Napa, it seems Monday Bakery has found a home in Sonoma. 

A graduate of the Culinary Institute of America - Graystone, Sally Geftakys has been building an impressive culinary career-resume over the years by working with some of the Wine Country’s best restaurants and eateries such as The Thomas & Fagiani's and Ad Hoc.

Specializing in delectable pastries like twice-baked croissant, Monday Bakery prides itself on sourcing ingredients from local farms as much as possible, which as bakery general manager Claire, said, “keeps the menu seasonal and based on what’s fresh.”

Morning bun fans will enjoy Monday’s version of the ‘Morning Bun.’ It’s like a cinnamon roll but more, as if the outside layer was a delicate toffee crunch. The flavor is ecstatic.

Some locals, like longtime resident (almost a town native) Catherine Sevenau heard about Monday Bakery, yet she has been slow and shy about trekking to the plaza to check it out.

However, Sevenau did say, “I have not been in the Basque Bakery for months. Though, she added, when I was there there last, the bakery products did not seem as good as they used to be.”

Geffen, the store owner at Tiddle E Winks (which is almost right next door to Monday) agrees with Sevenau. As Geffen said, “Monday Bakery’s quality is much better.”

Even so, Geffen still hasn’t been able to get to the bakery early enough by 7:30 in the morning, to get first choices of the day’s menu.

No matter she’s pleased. “It’s a very welcome addition to the shops/boutiques along the plaza,” said Geffen.

Honestly, it might not be everyone's thing but the thought of sweet, domestic free use makes me purr 😵‍💫

Just the thought of baking in the kitchen with some quiet music playing that you can't really hear when the mixer is running. Wearing a cute little dress with an apron on top, knowing that your husband has been enjoying the way the hem flutters just above your knees.

Bucky's always been full of compliments but never more so that when you're making him his favourite sweet treats. He appreciates you. All of you.

"Such a good little wife for me." He's been sitting at the kitchen table, waiting for your mixer to finish incorporating the dry ingredients into your chocolate brownie batter.

With your back to him, he can't see the smile that tugs at the corners of your lips. He can't see the joy you feel at being able to show him how much you love him.

"You're so gorgeous, do you know that?" He's already crossed the space between you, standing behind you and trailing his lips up your neck.

His hands feel huge on your waist and you feel how desperate you are to melt against his broader frame. You're safe and loved and appreciated and it makes you want all of him.

"I think you'll like the panties I'm wearing." You whisper, trying not to look at him as the kisses to your neck pause.

One hand slips from your waist, under the hem of your dress, trailing up the outside of your thighs.

He doesn't know whether to expect lace or cotton or silk or something else entirely but his breath catches in his throat when he finds nothing. No fabric at all. Just more soft, warm skin.

"Fuck sweetheart, you've been at home all day with no panties on?" The hand disappears and you hear your husband undo his belt buckle.

"No, I took them off before you got back." Somehow he likes that answer more. They came off just for him.

"You must've been hoping I'd take care of you." He gives his stiffening cock a few strokes before pulling your dress up and bending you over slightly.

His tip has no trouble slipping inside you, followed quickly by the rest of his length. You're almost embarrassingly wet just from knowing that he was looking at you.

"Just you keep doing what you're doing. Don't let me distract you." He groans as he thrusts into you, enjoying the tight, wet heat of your body and the way you try to turn your attention back to your mixing bowl.

I'm writing the new chapter so fast fueled by spite alone brought on by the ending and stupid tiktok kids, and I'm putting in extra belos simp juice for all of us!!!

oof that sucks may I ask why you r having a hiatus. Did I miss an update or announcement

Yeah, I made a note about on here I think.

But the long and short of it is that I was getting very low on chapters to publish. So I couldn't keep up with my weekly update schedule, and I still can't thanks to that whole not being able to write since January.

No motivation or time or energy makes for no writing. I'm having ideas (mostly original) but just... couldn't word when I got on my computer.

I have been able to write a little bit the past two days with this new interest! Nothing completed, but it's something. Hopefully I'll be able to get back into the swing of things, but it probably won't be for a long while.

And under the cut for job related stress things that are likely major contributors to the problem. Which is very >:(

I have never experienced just highs and lows in my moods since... well never. Even my moods when I was dealing with the whole house situation weren't this bad. Extreme good moods that'll plummet into extreme bad moods. Multiple times I've had to keep myself from crying on shift.

And it's not even because of anybody. Everyone's rather nice (to my face) and I've only gotten one or two bad customers (which were just passive aggressive at the most). The shifts aren't bad, I'm mostly working 3-8. Management isn't bad either, accommodating and encouraging.

But damn it's just not okay. I constantly feel like I'm gonna throw up and I'm like instantly tired the minute I step behind the counter. It's fucking awful.

And just a little gripe that nothing can help, but I hate how busy it makes me feel. I feel like I have no time for anything else and the weeks are just going by so damn fast. And I have issues with time management to begin with, two months can feel like a week and two seconds can feel like a month. I hate it.

My family isn't helping anything either. Any time I try to talk about it, all I get is "well, you need a job so get over it." Which is not helpful and if anything makes me feel even shittier than before. My oh so supportive brother has also joked that he's going to disown me if I quite. But I won't survive a holiday rush. I get three people waiting in line and I start getting panicked sweats. A Thanksgiving or Christmas rush is gonna kill me.
