Part 2 of Inheritance. English Ver.

The Jersey

Coincidentally after having that thought, I witnessed a group of people celebrating the triumph of their soccer team. They all had the jersey of the team. Adults, kids, men, and women, they all had the shirts. There was even a dog that also had the jersey on. 

How? Since young we put on the jerseys of the team they should support. We raise them on the same religion that our families have followed for generations, sometimes only knowing little or nothing of it. 

The music they hear in the house…

Their political party…

Oh and our tendency to create “mini us”.

The rockers with their black leather jackets with their mini rockers who hold their hands. 

The cowboys and their little cowboys. 

The fashionistas with their little ladies that dress like women.

But, giving them a jersey or trying to make them look like us isn’t as serious as passing down our fears, or mental limitations, our superstitions, etc. 

“You aren’t going to make it in that”, “I don’t think you can”, “That’s too hard”. These and so many more phrases that we tell our kids. It’d be great if it didn’t influence them, but as parents our influence is huge. 

There exists that period in their childhood where we are their heroes, and “if my dad says it’s not possible, it’s because it’s not.” That is the thought of a kid who still doesn’t understand how much potential he truly has, but because of instincts he follows the examples of his parents. 

How to SAVE my kids from being my parents' kids?

Full life for everyone. Remember that no one is born knowing, we can all learn a little everyday.

My mother and I. Two humans who can never stay together or can ever stay apart. We both have the same destines. The difference is that, I maybe a day late than you. Im scared everyday, thinking to myself. What if me and my daughter have the same destines. But I'm hopeful, that we won't.

I'm not ashamed to say, that I don't want to be a mother like you. But I also do want to be a mother like you. We may never agree to disagree at certain times. We care about each other in our own ways. Which you can't understand and neither can I. But our love for one another will be there. Somewhere hidden. Somewhere deep down. But what's the point of this love if we don't speak a word to each other.

Part 1 of Inheritance. English Ver.

The Red Rice

I’m not very good at cooking, I can admit that, but I also don’t think I'm the worst cook in the world. However, red rice was my nemesis for many years. It’s only this last year that I can say that I have constantly been able to make rice with the right consistency. It’s not mushy and it’s not over cooked, it’s not undercooked, and it’s not burned! I think that it comes out acceptable.

As a mother it occurred to me that it was time to pass on my “culinary talents” to my daughter, now that she’s old enough for these “challenges”. 

First I told her about all the challenges I faced when it came to making rice, which tasted good…according to me. After that I told her not to worry if the rice didn’t come out good on her first try since red rice wasn’t the easiest to cook. 

The first time she cooked it it came out great, and I had the gall to say that it might’ve been beginners' luck, and asked her if she thought she would be able to replicate, what to me was a feat. The second time was even better than the first.

I had a moment of realization, I had talked to her about my experience and my own limitations, and luckily she ignored it and she did a good job cooking the red rice. But what if she hadn’t? What would have happened if after hearing all my anecdotes she would have given up before even trying? This made me remember the following quote from Friedrich Nietzsche:

“How to save my kids from being my parents' kids?”
