Tumblr media
The Festival of Australian Queer Theatre is opening this Thursday, with a program set to disrupt the broader societal narrative around the who and what of queerness.
The Festival of Australian Queer Theatre will celebrate the contributions made to Australian culture by queer theatre makers and showcase contemporary independent queer Australian theatre work.
Running from Thursday 22 August until Sunday 25 August across Ballarat’s LanceTV Studios, Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute and FedUni Camp Street, the festival is for queers, allies, creatives, and lovers of theatre.
The program offers an exciting mix of events, from script readings of queer Australian plays, talks, and panel discussions, to theatre masterclasses led by some of the country’s top queer theatre makers. Highlights include a 70-minute performance of A Body at Work by the serial nudist Frankie van Kan (aka Frankie Valentine—known for Stripped Queer, Club Briefs, Baby Got Back, and Seen & Heard Cabaret), masterclasses by Maude Davey and Moira Finucane and staged readings of biographical play Numa & Karl and Chasing Dick: A Love Story – a brand new play commissioned by the festival.
