[ad_1] Team India after getting defeated at the MCG (PC: Debasis Sen) As the dust settles on the Indian defeat in Melbourne, it is time to leave it behind and look ahead at the fifth and final Test of the BGT Series starting in Sydney on January 3, 2025. The turnaround time is short and with the team traveling today, all they will get is two days to recalibrate. First and foremost, the team needs to believe that they can get the job done. They have enough gas left from what we have seen in Melbourne. It does give the team and hordes of fans a lot of hope. Jasprit Bumrah continues to be the player of the series and he will surely deliver one more time at the SCG. Importantly, Mohd Siraj bowled much better in the Australian second innings at the MCG. This will be a big relief for the Indian team management. Akash Deep wasn’t really suited for Melbourne and it will be interesting to see if India goes back to Harshit Rana. The Sydney deck has changed in the last few years and Harshit or Prasidh Krishna can indeed be a better option at the SCG. Most importantly, India will need clarity of thought. If they play all-rounders to give the bowling unit cushion then it can’t be two all-rounders, Washington Sundar and Nitish Reddy, bowl just 27 overs between them in an entire Test match. In such a case, they are playing as batters, not all-rounders. While Nitish Reddy has been stellar, the question arises if Shubman Gill should get a look-in at the SCG ahead of Sundar? While Sundar hasn’t done anything wrong, it is unlikely that India will look to leave out Rohit Sharma or Virat Kohli. And that’s where Sundar might just have to sit out. For the Latest Sports News: Click Here Australia after taking Jasprit Bumrah’s wicket at the MCG (PC: Debasis Sen) There is enough fragility in the Australian batting and it has been exposed time and again in this series. At 94-6 India should have wrapped up the Aussie innings for 150 and closed things out. But with Bumrah and Siraj exhausted, there was not much gas left in the Indian bowling tank. That’s where a Harshit Rana, with his hit the deck option comes into play. Also, India will need to show much better game awareness. When we look back at the Melbourne Test, it should have been a draw. Rishabh Pant and Yashasvi Jaiswal had done all the hard work in the post-lunch session. To then throw it away hurts a lot. Pant, for all the talent he has, must realise that he can’t just play shots with a high risk involved. He has to play percentage cricket, for that’s what the team needs at this point. If there is a long-on stationed, don’t play that shot. Take a single and keep the Australians at bay. Pant, having played 100 deliveries, could have done that. Truth is, he did not. If India makes these minor adjustments, there is no reason why they can’t push Australia in the New Year Test. With all to play for and the Border Gavaskar Trophy and perhaps his red ball career on the line, it is time for Rohit Sharma to go all out. A 1-3 loss is the same as a 1-2 loss. So, take risks, calculated ones, and push Australia. A 2-2 series scoreline will mean India go home victors. That’s what a legion of Indian fans will want as a New Year gift. Blow To Team India, Virat Kohli Pulls Out Of First Two Tests vs England Over 'Personal Reasons
Indian cricket team stalwart Virat Kohli has pulled out from the first two Tests against England over 'personal reasons'. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed the same via a statement on Monday. The BCCI hasn't yet named a replacement for Kohli but plans to do so in due time. Earlier, Kohli had pulled out of the first T20I against Afghanistan too due to 'personal reasons'. It has, however, not been revealed what the personal situation is that Virat is dealing with.
Tumblr media
The BCCI released stated that Virat has already spoken to skipper Rohit Sharma on the matter and he has the captain's support on the matter. In Kohli's absence, there will be huge responsibility on the shoulders of youngsters like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, Shreyas Iyer, etc. to step up and deliver.
The BCCI statement read: "Mr. Virat Kohli has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to be withdrawn from the first two Tests of the upcoming IDFC First Bank Test series against England, citing personal reasons.
"Virat has spoken to Captain Rohit Sharma, the team management and the selectors and has emphasized that while representing the country has always been his top priority, certain personal situations demand his presence and undivided attention."
"The BCCI respects his decision and the Board and team management has extended its support to the star batter and is confident in the abilities of the remaining squad members to step up and deliver commendable performances in the Test series."
"The BCCI requests the media and fans to respect Virat Kohli's privacy during this time and refrain from speculating on the nature of his personal reasons. The focus should remain on supporting the Indian cricket team as they embark on the upcoming challenges in the Test series."
"The Men's Selection Committee will name a replacement soon."
India are scheduled to play a five-match Test series against England, the first of which will be held in Hyderabad on January 25. The second match of the series will be played on February 2 in Vizag. Virat Kohli is expected to return for the remaining three matches of the series.
India Squad For First Two Tests vs England: Rohit Sharma (c), Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul (wk), KS Bharat (wk), Dhruv Jurel (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohd. Siraj, Mukesh Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah (vc) and Avesh Khan

The T20I and ODI squads will be led by Aiden Markram, while the Test team will be led by Temba Bavuma.
Bavuma and quick bowler Kagiso Rabada have been rested for the white-ball series. Anrich Nortje, who was ruled out of the World Cup owing to a lower back stress fracture, is out of the game in all formats and has no schedule for recuperation.

Oil Protest Threat Forces ICC To Have Two Pitches For World Test Championship Final Between India And Australia
Tumblr media
The International Cricket Council (ICC) have prepared two pitches for World Test Championship Final between India and Australia following a threat from oil protesters who threatened to vandalize the pitch and ground during the match. Keeping the threat in mind the security has been increased at the Kennington Oval cricket ground. The ICC have also made changes in their section 6.4 of the Playing Condition rule making an alternative pitch as per the ICC source. If the pitch gets hampered then they will assess the pitch and see whether it is in good condition to play or not if yes they will continue playing on the same and if not then they will look at the other pitch condition and take a call on whether they can play on the other one or not. Both the captains Rohit Sharma and Pat Cummins have been taken into confidence. If both agree to play after the pitch gets damaged then they will continue and if not then the match could get called off or abandoned. Certain sections will play a crucial role depending on the circumstances that unfold during the WTC 2023 final. First of all, if the on-field umpires determine that it is unsafe or unreasonable to continue playing on the match pitch, they shall halt the game and immediately inform the ICC match referee under 6.4.1. Under 6.4.4, if the decision is to not resume the play, the on-field umpires will assess whether the existing pitch can be repaired and the match can resume from the point it was stopped in consultation with the ICC match referee. The ICC match referee must consider whether this repair would unfairly advantage either side or not, given the play that had already taken place on the dangerous pitch. Under 6.4.7, throughout the decision-making processes that are mentioned above, the ICC match referee will keep both captains and the head of the ground authority informed about the situation. The head of the ground authority will ensure appropriate public announcements are made timely. The WTC final will begin at 3 pm IST from June 7 till June 11 at the Oval, London, a reserve day is also in place if the weather intervenes to spoil the sport. India's squad for WTC final: Rohit Sharma (Captain), Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli, Ajinkya Rahane, KS Bharat (wk), Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Mohd. Shami, Mohd. Siraj, Umesh Yadav, Jaydev Unadkat, Ishan Kishan (wk). Suryakumar Yadav, Mukesh Kumar and Yashasvi Jaiswal have been named as stand-by players for the high-stakes match.
