Transform Your Home with Stylish Modern Sliding Doors
When it comes to home improvement, few upgrades can change the look and feel of a room quite like installing stylish, modern sliding doors. These sleek, functional, and eye-catching additions provide a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces, brighten up your interiors, and elevate your home's aesthetic. Whether you're looking to enhance the flow of natural light, save space, or simply update your décor, modern sliding doors are an excellent choice.
In Ottawa, more homeowners are opting for modern sliding doors to give their homes a contemporary feel. With their minimalistic design, these doors create an open and airy atmosphere, making them perfect for a wide range of spaces. From patio doors to room dividers, modern sliding doors offer a perfect blend of functionality and style. In this blog, we’ll explore the benefits of these doors and how they can transform your living space.
Why Choose Modern Sliding Doors for Your Home?
One of the primary reasons homeowners in Ottawa choose modern sliding doors is the space-saving design. Traditional hinged doors can take up a significant amount of room when opened, limiting the flow of space in smaller rooms. Sliding doors, on the other hand, move along a track and require no extra space to open, making them ideal for areas where every inch counts.
Another compelling reason for choosing modern sliding doors is the natural light they allow into your home. With larger glass panels, these doors let in more sunlight, making your rooms feel brighter and more inviting. Whether you want to create a stunning connection between your living room and the patio or simply enhance the feel of an interior room, modern sliding doors can make a noticeable difference.
A Perfect Match for Contemporary Homes
Modern sliding doors are ideal for contemporary homes in Ottawa because they bring sleek, clean lines that align with modern design principles. These doors are available in a variety of materials, from aluminum and steel to wood, offering you the flexibility to choose a style that complements your home’s décor. Whether you prefer a minimalist aesthetic or something more ornate, sliding doors can be customized to suit your preferences.
Additionally, modern sliding doors are built with energy efficiency in mind. With high-quality glass and weatherstripping, these doors help keep your home comfortable throughout the year. In colder months, they act as a barrier to cold drafts, and during warmer months, they help keep cool air inside. This feature makes modern sliding doors an energy-efficient choice for homeowners in Ottawa, where temperatures can vary drastically throughout the year.
Personalize Your Space with Custom Blinds
Alongside the installation of modern sliding doors, many homeowners in Ottawa are choosing custom blinds for added privacy and style. Custom blinds not only enhance the functionality of your sliding doors but also allow you to personalize your space to reflect your style. Whether you prefer the classic look of wood blinds or the sleekness of modern roller shades, custom blinds offer a wide range of options to suit your needs.
When you add custom blinds to your modern sliding doors, you get the perfect balance of light control and privacy. You can adjust the blinds to filter in just the right amount of sunlight or block it out entirely when needed. Additionally, custom blinds come in various colors, textures, and finishes, allowing you to select the perfect complement to your home’s interior design. This personalized touch can further elevate the sophistication and style of your modern sliding doors.

Space Efficiency: Unlike traditional doors that swing open, sliding doors operate along a track, saving valuable space. This makes them ideal for smaller rooms or areas where space is at a premium.
Improved Indoor-Outdoor Connection: Modern sliding doors offer a seamless transition between your indoor living spaces and the outdoors. Whether you have a balcony, patio, or garden, sliding doors provide an unobstructed view and easy access to your outdoor areas.
Aesthetic Appeal: Modern sliding doors are available in various materials and designs, making them a great fit for almost any home style. Whether you prefer a contemporary, minimalist design or a more traditional look, there’s a sliding door option for you.
Energy Efficiency: Today’s modern sliding doors are designed to be energy-efficient. With high-quality glass and insulation, they help maintain the temperature inside your home, reducing heating and cooling costs.
Custom Blinds: A Perfect Complement

Any headcanons about how many homes America and Canada have?
Yes! They have many homes.
⭐ America ⭐
In New York City, America spent decades jumping from place to place. As the city grew, he moved from a house in Manhattan, to a Brooklyn apartment, to a flat in Queens, etc. Now, despite his best efforts, his current apartment is just a box with an AC unit sticking out the window. He wishes he could have a nicer place in NYC, but the market is too hot even for him.
In Los Angeles, he managed to snag a gorgeous Santa Monica house in the early Hollywood days before prices exploded into the stratosphere. Just a short walk to the Pacific ocean, he never sold it and it’s worth its weight in gold by now.
His spot in Washington D.C. is the one he most uses; a stately, historical home that would probably be turned into a small museum if he ever decides to sell it (but he never will). Sometimes, the place can get a bit messy, with papers, file folders, and take-out containers scattered about, but he’ll tidy up when company is coming.
A farm in Ohio that has seen better days. In the early 20th century, he used the barn as a workshop to tinker with automobiles and flying machines. As a result, the barn is quite damaged, but America won’t repair it. He thinks the oil stains “add character”.
A lively hotel in Louisiana with a restaurant on the first floor. Yes, he owns the whole thing. It’s been managed by humans for generations within the same family. They cook massive Creole feasts whenever America drops by.
America doesn’t seek solitude often, but when he does, he goes to his mountain home in Colorado.
He stubbornly hangs onto his Texas ranch even though he doesn't raise cattle anymore.
Once he owned a beachfront property in Florida, but sold it after the Cuban Missile Crisis.
Unfortunately, through no fault of his own, his childhood home in Boston caught fire after the Revolution and burnt down. The land it was on is now a popular public park with swing sets, monkey bars, and a huge curly slide. Many local children say it’s their favourite park in the city.
There are many more, of course, but those are some of his standout homes.
🍁 Canada 🍁
Of all his homes, Canada stays at his Ottawa house most often. The backyard is filled with a rainbow of tulips and it’s within cycling distance to Parliament Hill. He keeps several pairs of ice skates for himself and whoever visits during the winter, so they can go skating over the frozen Rideau Canal.
Canada’s Toronto flat is the most modern-looking of his dwellings, but that isn’t saying much. It’s an industrial loft with mismatched furniture still stuck in the 1980s. It really isn’t his favourite place, but he likes the view of the skyline at sunset.
One of his childhood homes is still standing; a humble, stonework Montreal house. It’s been restored by historical societies; fresh paint on the door, a tidy lawn, and black soot swept away. He made an arrangement to lease it as a museum, but has the opportunity to return and stay there whenever he chooses.
There’s a ramshackle log cabin he built himself in Algonquin park, many years before it was designated as parkland. To quote my NedCan fic: “... a stone base decorated in moss. Turn-of-the-century windows and an amber-stained porch pleasantly frame the main door, while the modernized roof and chimney stack create a mishmash of different eras... like a favourite worn blanket; too beloved to be discarded, and so instead is repeatedly patched.”
On the east coast, he has a home in Halifax proper. Sadly, his original was destroyed in the Halifax Explosion and was rebuilt to the standards of the 1920s. He misses his older house, because it was where Scotland would visit during his childhood.
In St. John’s, he has a very colourful building, painted bright red with white window frames and small gardens in both the front and back.
A simple, suburban bungalow in Red Deer, Alberta. Perfect for business and relaxation, because it’s halfway between both Edmonton and Calgary and keeps the Rocky Mountains within reach. Piles of hiking gear are stored in the attic, basement, and the garage. When he can spare the time, he’ll drive out to the Rockies for weeks of camping, climbing, hiking, or skiing.
His British Columbia home is surrounded by old-growth trees.
Overall, Canada tries to have at least one home in each of his provinces and territories. If, at the time of travel, he doesn’t, he'll try to lodge in a wildlife research centre. The scientists, who usually work for the government, don’t mind his presence at all.
Thank you for the ask!! 💜

Mine (T. Dermott)
Another request from the adorable @eikoxx 🥰💙
“Y/N, come with us!”
“Yeah, come on! Please!”
I roll my eyes and laugh quietly from my bedroom at my friends. One of my biggest regrets in life was giving them each keys to my dorm. They know I have work to catch up on, and I told them earlier that I wouldn’t be able to go out tonight, despite the fact that I said I could the day before.
“Y/N!” Travis bursts into the room, almost falling over from the momentum of him running basically through my door. “Y/N, come on!! You can work later. Please. We all have so much more fun when we’re with you,” he pleads.
I start to shake my head, but Kasperi, and then Auston and Mitch, followed by Willy, wander into the room behind Travis. “I literally cannot stand you guys. I don’t know why I’m friends with you. I should’ve taken the fucking job in Ottawa or something.” All four of them laugh at me, knowing that my mocking means they’ve convinced me to come. “No, I’m not joking. I literally hate you guys,” I continue as Kap sits at my desk which I’ve just deserted. Travis plops his ass down and sits cross-legged on the floor, Auston sits on my bed, allowing Mitch to crawl into his lap, and Willy leans casually against my door frame.
“Give me 10 minutes and I’ll be ready to go,” I mutter under my breath, and Travis jumps up to hug me and spin me around.
“We love you, Y/N!” He cries. I push him away laughing and gather together clothes, picking out an outfit with the guys’ help.
•••
Twenty minutes later, we’re in the car on the way to a bar called BarChef. It’s Willy’s pick, being his turn since the last time we went out he was the DD.
“Where do I go now, babe?” Kappy asks for the fifteenth time this drive as we come to a red light.
“Left,” Willy responds, squeezing their hands together, which are interlocked between them.
I try to fix my hair, using my phone as a mirror, when Mitch steals it from me and wraps his arm around my shoulders. “You look beautiful, don’t worry.” I rest my head against his shoulder and look out the windshield. Auston, Mitch, me, and Travis are squished in the back of Kappy’s car, but it’s nothing new. None of our cars legally fit more than five people, but we make it work.
I look over at Travis and catch him almost glaring at Mitch, but when he looks at me his face changes. I look at him questioningly, but he pretends not to notice. “How’s school going?” He asks instead.
“Good,” I say carefully, still very confused. “Good, I’m enjoying all my classes. I still have no idea what I want to specialize in.” I’m in my last year of university at U of T, and I’m really enjoying it, although it’s quite challenging.
“It’s okay,” he tells me. “You still have med school, then your residency, right?” I nod. He actually listens when I talk to him, unlike my girlfriends. “So you still have a really long time to decide. Residency will help you decide, I think.”
I smile at him. The way he’s looking at me, like I’m the only other person around, my chest constricts and my temples throb. I look away suddenly, staring at his shoes. I’ve never felt this way with Travis before, and I’m kinda freaking out. ‘It’s just Derms,’ I tell myself. ‘He’s one of your best friends. Just Travis.’
We pull into a parking lot of what looks to be a very busy bar. “Nicely done, Willy. You guys are gonna get noticed and I’ll just be left in the corner doing my own thing.
“Trust me, you idiot, nobody here likes hockey. It’s way too nice a place for sports fans.”
I laugh at him as the five of us climb out of the car. Travis takes my hand in his as Auston takes Mitch’s and Kap takes Willy’s. It’s a running joke that Travis and I will forever be single, and that the two couples shove their cute relationships in our faces.
When we walk into the bar, I immediately understand what Will was saying. It’s a modern, mature bar. Nothing that a Toronto sports fan would ever be caught dead at. A few girls sitting at a table near the entrance turn and stare at the guys, then glare at me. Travis notices and protectively puts his arm around my shoulders. “Jealous, much?”
“Of what, me hanging out with you guys? Please, I could do so much better.”
He laughs loudly and attempts to mess up my hair as I sit at a barstool, but I catch his hands and shove him into his seat. We’re both laughing like idiots and the guys are watching amusedly. Auston sits on the other side of me and leans into me slightly. “I don’t know how you two haven’t gotten together yet,” he chirps.
“Oh shush,” I respond as the bartender comes up to us to take out orders. We get our drinks and continue chatting and laughing. As I suspected, the guys get noticed by a group of good-looking girls. Their collective attention is away from me for about 15 minutes as they talk with the girls. I play with my straw and stare at my phone, pretending there’s something very enticing on the screen, when a tall, handsome guy comes and sits next to me in Travis’ seat.
“Hey,” he says, his voice low and gravely.
“Hi,” I smile politely at him, hoping to make my disinterest obvious.
“Can I buy you another?” He asks, gesturing at my half full drink.
“No, I’m okay with this.” I turn away from him, when suddenly his chest is against my back and I can feel him breathing down my neck.
“If I were you, I wouldn’t want to say no to me,” he says into my ear. I flinch away, disgusted. I turn back around on the stool to face him.
“Excuse me?” I demand, sitting straight up. He moves close to me again, sliding between my legs. I glance over to where Travis and the guys are, still facing away from me. I take a deep breath and think about what to do. If I move away, he’ll get even angrier with me. He’s not as big as my friends, I could probably defend myself against him if I needed to, but I don’t really want to have to. I look over again at the guys, and Travis turns to look at me, a smile on his face. As soon as he looks at me and sees the guy, though, his face falls.
Travis ignores the girls and comes over to me quickly and shoves the man off of me. “What the fuck do you think your doing?” He demands.
“And who are you to ask?”
Anytime I’m put in this situation, the guys easily slip into the same lie. “Her boyfriend, fucker. Not that it’s any of your business.”
The man refuses to move, instead rolling up his sleeves. “Derms, stop,” I whisper. I know he hears me, but he chooses to ignore me.
“I wouldn’t try to fight me if I were you, bud,” Travis chirps, and I shake my head.
“Travis-“
The man's fist hits Travis square in the jaw, and his eyes flash. It’s his hockey face. “Fuck,” I mutter under my breath, leaning my elbow against the bar counter and leaning my head into my palm. It’s so easy for him to get pissed off when it comes to protecting me or any of his other friends or teammates.
Travis uppercuts him in the jaw, hard. Auston and Kap are at his side, with Mitch and Willy close behind. The amount of men facing off the man seems to intimidate him. He shakes his head and looks at me once more. “You’re going to wish you didn’t say no one day,” he tells me, turning to leave the bar. His words disgust me, sending a chill down my spine.
Travis wraps his arms around me, his eyes soft again.
“You okay, Y/N?” Kappy asks, rubbing my arm supportively. I smile at him.
“Let’s go,” Auston suggests. I start to shake my head. This is all the guys wanted to do tonight. Forget the stress of hockey, just chill and probably get wasted.
“He’s right, Y/N. It’s okay. We’ll go back to Travis’ and just play chel or something,” Mitch chimes.
The guys nod and grin at me. “I love you guys, you know?”
“Love you too,” they coo.
•••
Back at Travis’ place, we’ve all changed into more comfortable clothing. The guys have small pieces of their clothing at basically every team members’ houses, so they’re wearing their own clothing. I’m wearing a pair of Travis’s sweatpants, which I have knotted tight at the waist, and his team sweatshirt. We’re lounging on the couch, playing chel and cod while stuffing our faces with pizza and pop.
We laugh and yell at and throw pieces of popcorn at each other. I’m sitting next to Auston, my legs resting across his with my back against the armrest of the couch. Travis is sitting on the floor in front of me, his hair brushing my leg when he moves. Mitch is sitting next to Travis, in between Auston’s legs. Kappy and Willy are squished together on the armchair against the other wall, all of us focusing on the chel game between Will and Aus.
I continue kicking Auston’s arms slightly, trying to get him to press the wrong buttons. “Babes, will you please fucking stop,” he says for the fifteenth time. I giggle and stop momentarily, resting my legs to continue shortly.
“I thought I was babes,” Mitch whines, craning his head back to look up at him.
When the play stops, Auston leans down and kisses him. “You’re my babe.”
Mitch smiles, satisfied. Willy’s biting his bottom lip as he skates the puck up to Auston’s net and skates back and forth in front of it. He shoots and the puck ends up in the back of the net. The living room erupts in cheers and Auston slumps back into the couch, defeated once again.
Mitch crawls so he’s on his knees and stretches to kiss him. “I love you anyways,” he says, and Willy makes a face like he might vomit. Kappy pulls him into his chest before he can chirp them and kisses his hair. I look at Travis and catch him staring at me.
“What?” I whisper, smiling gently.
“Nothing,” he whispers back, shaking his head slightly. I mess his hair as I stand up to go to the washroom, trying my best not to kick Mitch in the back of the head. I feel eyes on the back of my head as I leave the room, but when I turn Travis is staring pretty much through the television.
After many more rounds of chel, the guys start getting their stuff together to head home. We decide to leave our dress clothes at Travis’, knowing we don’t go out places with any other groups, the losers that we are. I’m slipping on my boots while the guys are decide who gets to drive and who to drop off first.
“Kap, you drive,” Auston suggests. “You can drop Mitch first, and I’ll just stay the night. Then bring Willy to his place then go home.”
Will is staring at me, the only one to remember how far out my student residency is from everyone else’s houses. “Uh, it’s okay. I’ll… take an Uber?”
“Are you sure?” Mitch asks, a worried look on his face. “It’s really late.”
“Yeah, I’ll, um, I’ll be okay,” I say, glancing out the window at the pitch black.
“No, no, Y/N, stay the night.” Travis says from further inside the entrance hall.
“Hm? Are you sure, Derms? You have practice tomorrow morning and I don’t have any classes.”
“Yeah, of course. You can come to practice with us, or just chill here. Whatever. Just stay, please.”
I’m still not sure. It’s not like I haven’t stayed over at each guys’ place at least once, but I feel bad because he has to wake up early. But he’s giving me his stupid puppy dog eyes, and nobody can say no to Travis when he does that. “Fine, okay, I’ll stay,” I mutter, toeing off my boots.
“Okay, we’ll get going,” Auston says, and we give hugs and say goodnight. Once they all leave, Travis shuts and locks the door behind them.
“Do you want other clothes to sleep in?” He asks, not really looking at me.
“No, I think I’m okay.” We try to tidy up the living room a little bit, picking up empty pizza boxes and half-full bowls of popcorn and chips in comfortable silence. “Hey, thanks for sticking up for me at the bar.”
“Oh, you don’t have to thank me. What are best friends for?” He smiles at me wide.
I smile back, and we look at each other. His eyes are so blue, so bright. “Yeah, best friends,” I whisper, picking up a can from the ground and glancing up at him again. He hasn’t moved, still looking at me with an unreadable expression on his face. The same clenched chest, throbbing temples, falling feeling from the car comes back. I take a deep breath, trying to calm myself down, but it doesn’t help. My heart beats faster, if anything.
Travis drops the two pizza boxes he picked up on the coffee table and moves toward me. He takes one step, two steps, and he’s right in front of me. It would be so easy to close the small space between us. I feel his breath against my lips, and it would be so easy-
Suddenly, it’s not an idea anymore. One of his hands is on my waist, the other under my chin. And his lips are on mine, his body is flush against mine. He pulls away suddenly and looks at me. “Okay?” He asks breathlessly, his blue eyes flicking between each of mine, searching.
“Okay,” I whisper back. He leans in and kisses me again, sending my stomach into flips. My chest clenches again and my temples throb with yearning. But I don’t try to will the feeling away now. Instead I pull him closer to me. I want all of him, and I don’t try to deny it anymore. Because this is Travis, my best friend in the world. And this is Travis, my favourite person in the world. The only person that matters in this moment. My person. And I tell him by kissing him with every emotion and word I’ve been keeping back. His arms are strong against me and his hand is in my hair. I clench his shirt in my hands and pull him closer. “You’re mine,” I manage to whisper when he pulls away slightly for air. “I’ve been waiting for this for so fucking long, Travis,” I tell him.
He laughs gently against my lips. “You are very mistaken, love. I have been waiting for this moment from the moment I met you. You, Y/N, are mine. And I’m gonna let the world know.”

☽ ➝ summary: moving abroad for university comes with many surprises. a new house, a new life and most of all . . . new neighbours.
✧ ・゚ : * ✧ ・゚ : *
“I feel like I’ve been reborn,” Mae sounded out with an airy chuckle, making Saffron shake her head gently, suddenly awakened from her daylight slumber. Today was their first day abroad.
A whole new country, a whole new house and a completely different life awaited the two just behind the corner, and Saffron couldn’t really say she was ready for it. The girl didn’t like changes, not at all, but this one simply had to be pursued. Moving to Canada was a big step for two college-aged women, but life can throw you into deep waters unexpectedly and without a warning. That’s what happened to her and Mae.
The letter that came in the mail one Saturday evening was a document Mae would cherish for the rest of her life. How could a little, beige envelope bring one such pride and joy? Well, how could it not? Getting into the college of your dreams was something any young, ambitious human would be ecstatic about, and that's exactly what Mae was clutching her acceptance letter from the University of Ottawa.
Saffron herself was simultaneously upset and excited about the news. Mae would finally leave for Canada to pursue her dream, but on the downside . . . she’d be gone from her life, for who knows how long? The female couldn’t really stomach the thought of her best friend being gone for the entirety of collage. Heck, wasn't that when most people peaked? Saffron didn't want to experience her best without Mae. Yes, FaceTime and WhatsApp existed, but she knew maintaining a friendship would be difficult that way. Not even mentioning timezones.
What would happen to seeing each other every other day? What about movie nights and banana pancakes on Sunday mornings? Oh, Saffron loved Mae’s pancakes. Waking up at noon, dressed in her comfiest sweater, leaning against the kitchen island while watching her friend prepare breakfast was a ritual Saffron would never want to abandon. The light, fluffy dough engulfed in a thick, sugary syrup and, if the season allowed it, fresh berries was delectably a taste of heaven. The mere thought of the morning treat made the female’s mouth water with nostalgia and pure sentiment.
Enough pancake talk, though. The red-head females head felt like a storm cloud, filled with paroxysms of electricity and emotions she couldn’t really fathom with the little energy she had. There weren’t many options in this case, and the two both knew it. Saffron could stay there, in Seoul. The city they have both lived in for almost two decades now . . . or do the unthinkable. It took a long, troublesome week, but the decision was finally made.
And it was the unthinkable option.
They left within a month of the letters arrival. Mae was sceptical of Saffron's choice at first, worried about her friends sudden, possibly risky decision, but the girl wouldn’t be turned down that easily, and they both knew that very well.
”I’m coming with you, and that’s my final decision,” were Saffron’s final words as the two made their way past airport security. Her voice didn’t dare tremble, and that had to be a sign that she was sure of her decision to the very core of her being. Mae was silent this entire time, exhausted from hours upon hours of planning, packing and worrying, but Saffron couldn’t help but notice the slightest smile form on the girl’s lips once they boarded. It stayed there for the remainder of the flight, giving Saffron hope for a successful fresh start.
Here they were now, sitting on the floor of their brand new living room, surrounded by countless cardboard boxes scribbled by black Sharpie. The condition of the house was more than decent, especially considering its long history of occupants! Cozy, affordable and somewhat well situated; the perfect combination for two highschool graduates. Not to mention the landscapes! Besides being surrounded by a nice neighbourhood, their new house was a short distance away from a forest. Who knew what secrets roamed about in the area? It was only a matter of time until the female would be able to pounce around, discovering every corner of the area.
Saff’s hand traced the groves between planks of the wooden floor, noticing each bruise and crevice. It felt so cold and strange compared to the carpeted floors of her old apartment. The walls were empty and dulled, but clean. A paint job was possibly needed, but how hard could that be? It was difficult not to picture the moment the two would be able to start decorating them. Perhaps a bookshelf full of Mae’s favourite cookbooks, or an array of modern art pieces found at garage sales? The thought of marking the house as their own itself was enough to make Saffron’s heart skip a beat, cheeks flushed with excitement.
”Earth to Bae Saffron?” The female’s head shook once more, realising she was zoning out. ”Jet lag?” Mae questioned with a soft smile, lips stained a soft crimson.
To Saffron, it was always surprising how effortlessly put-together the girl could look. Ash blonde hair frizz-less, tied into a loose sock-bun with a few strands of hair framing her heart-shaped face. Her casual look was completed with an oversized, maroon hoodie draped over her slim figure. Simple, yet exquisite.
Saffron let out a soft sigh pass her lips at the girls playful question. What was occupying her mind wasn’t fatigue, but a sense of excitement and hopefulness for the future. After all, the two hadn’t had a chance to meet any of their neighbours as of yet, or even explore the area. Despite the obvious anxiety that came with meeting new people, Saffron was quite adamant on experiencing that part of moving. The female didn’t exactly have many friends back in Seoul, so starting fresh could be a chance for new relationships, platonic or not.
"Hey, you," Mae started off once more, perhaps realising her question wasn’t to be answered anytime soon. “I did some thinking overnight, and I landed on a pretty neat idea,” She remarked, voice laced with excitement and pride.
Oh boy.
Mae's ideas had a tendency of being outgoing, and usually involved doing things Saffron normally wouldn't even think of. “What if we went out to meet our neighbours tomorrow? Try and settle in better.” She proposed, a smile lingering on her lips as she shrugged slightly, trying to come off as nonchalant. That was the typical Mae, her and her strange gift of knowing exactly what hr friends were thinking of at the given moment. Scary, but oddly amusing.
“Sure, why not.” Saffron answered, giving the older female a friendly smile and nod. It was quite relieving to have the female suggest socializing herself. After all, it was a burden off of Saffron’s shoulders.
“We are settled pretty close to the university campus, after all. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had more students scattered around the neighbourhood.” She chimed, brushing a stray fragment of hair behind her ear before digging her hands in the box labelled ‘books’.
Saffron acknowledged her friend's comment with another brisk nod, before letting out a yawn, shifting her position to stand up with a pained groan. ”You’re getting old!” Mae laughed wickedly at her younger friend’s aching, getting an eye-roll thrown towards her as a sign of playful annoyance. Saffron couldn't help but let out her own series of giggles at her own misfortune, arms now extended to stretch out her joints.
“Damnit!” Mae cursed out suddenly as Saff’s own eyebrows stitched together in question. “What’s wrong?” She asked, as Mae cupped her face with a groan. ”I'm missing a box. It should be in the garage, or outside on the porch, perhaps . . . ”* she finally muttered, getting a soft ‘oh’ from her friend once she realised the issue. “I could fetch for you.” She told her simply, giving the older a reassuring grin. It’s not like she had much more to do, anyway. Unpacking boxes was boring and hefty, and the girl would rather be doing anything else if she was to be frank.
”Would you? Ah, you’re such a dear.” Mae spoke hoarsely, doing her best to imitate an elderly lady, which she definitely nailed. Giving her one last chuckle, Saff hopped out of the room, humming a soft tune to herself. Nothing in particular, merely a series of tones that went well together. Hand sliding into the pocket of her shorts, she made her way down the stairs and into the living room area. It didn’t look much different from any other room in the house, considering all that it held was a bunch of cardboard.
Saffron’s eyes searched each door in sight, as she finally managed to locate the entrance which surprisingly didn't have any distinguishing features that would help her in her task. Embarrassingly enough, the girl was still in deep confusion about the layout of their new home, even a week into moving in. She sighed in frustration, nimble fingers lacing around the metal doorknob before turning it with ease, door creaking upon pull.
The weather was better than she would’ve ever expected from Canada. The sky was a deep grey shade, interrupted by a few rays of sunshine coming through. Air fresh and slightly damp, a neat compromise that Saff was somewhat okay with. The girl breathed in, arms raised as she allowed herself for a more thorough stretch, without any of Mae’s comments this time. "Now, where the hell is that damned box, huh?"
”Hey, you!” Saffron looked around, eyes widened at the sudden, unfamiliar voice coming from somewhere, clearly nearby. “Yeah, you. With the orange hair!” Her breath caught in her throat as she realised she was obviosuly the one being spoken to. She couldn't imagine anyone else sporting the bold shade of ginger she rocked.
Eyes narrowed and eyebrows raised, she finally caught sight of the only other human in the perimeter.
A man, roughly in his twenties. Hair a soft brown, curling here and there to create an effortlessly flawless brunette arrangement. Skin fair and spotless even from several meters away, Saffron could clearly make out his dark brown eyes and pink lips which were twisted into the sweetest grin the girl had ever seen.
Despite the delicious sight in front of her, she didn’t allow herself any closer to the male without the proper questioning. “And who’s speaking?” She asked with a furrowed brow, a slight scowl on her face. She could only blame her hostile attitude on staying inside for the past week.
The man let out a warm laugh, and Saffron realised the silliness of her question only then when it was too late. He was sitting on the porch of a neighbouring house, fingers loosely gripping onto the rim of a can of soda. “Just a friendly neighbour. Isn’t it obvious?” He stood up, leaving the comfort of the wooden step as he made his way towards the fence. Saffron’s cheeks flushed a heated pink, partly due to the embarrassing nature of the situation, but mostly because of the man’s awfully confident stature. Hands rested against the top of the wooden fence, the female realised it was short enough to act as support for the man’s head as he propped it in the palm of his hand comfortably.
“I saw the moving van come through not too long ago. You’re new around here, aren't you?” He questioned, making Saffron take a cautious step forward. “We are. My best friend and I moved in about a week ago from Seoul. For university, and all that,” the female responded, arms crossing as she cocked her head to the side, slightly taken back by the man’s kindness.
”Seoul? We have more in common than I thought!” He exclaimed in child-like excitement, making Saffron chuckle softly at his beaming face.
“I moved here with my friend a year ago. Both of us study at UO,” Saffron’s eyes left his frame for a second, hearing the front door open once more, a familiar creaking making her wince.
“Saff?” Mae called out, approaching the short girl briskly, hand hooking around her shoulder comfortably. The man gave the newcomer a polite smile, studying both women closely. "Saff, huh? Nice to meet you. I’m Hoseok," He remarked.
“Nice to meet you, neighbour. I’m Mae, we moved here this week," the female chimed out, giving Saffron's shoulder a squeeze of encouragement. "But you probably know that already considering how long you two have been talking,” Mae chuckled teasingly, placing a hand on her hip as she gave Hoseok a nod.
Saffron gulped at the girl’s statement, realising the entire reason she was outside in the first place. “Funnily enough, we've been very keen on meeting our neighbours. It’s nice to walk into one of them like this!”* Mae acknowledged, getting a nod of agreement from her friend and a warm chuckle from their neighbour. "Well, I'm very happy we ran into each other, then!" he beamed, giving Saffron a conforting look. Was it visible she was nervous?
"Hey, we should do a formal greeting one day. Are you busy tomorrow?” Mae inquired, giving Saffron a gentle shake. Was she teasing, or did she want the female to take initiative? Whatever it was, Saffron was too focused on forming coherent sentences in her head to say anything.
“Hobi!! Where the hell did you go, again?!" Another male voice came from inside the house, slightly deeper than Hoseok’s and muffled due to the distance. “Well, that’s my call. I’ll see you around?” He winked, before running back on his porch and disappearing back into the house, leaving behind only the possibly empty can of pop.
Saff let out a sigh as soon as the man left her field of vision, hands reaching to rub at her temples furiously. “This was . . . ” Mae started off, as she let go of the girl’s shoulder and proceeded to walk into the garage, locating the box she was looking for. “ . . . tiring?” Saffron finished off, earning an amused chuckle from Mae. “I was about to say exciting, but that works, too,”

Showcasing a Stunning Bathroom Renovation in Ottawa by Miracle Dream Homes
We are very happy to report the completion of another 3-piece bathroom renovation in an Ottawa south home.
Though it’s a very typical bathroom renovation project and 3-piece bathrooms are very common in modern construction, the project turned out to be quite a nice looking bathroom. It’s not a big bathroom, but it’s very cozy and clean and the client loved the way it turned out. We did too!
The scope of work included conversion from a bathtub to a shower; the customer opted for an acrylic shower base with tiled walls. We have installed a very functional tiled niche, and the choice of black hardware complements dark tile and glass sliding shower doors quite well too.
To contrast the darker tiles of the shower, the customer went with large and light floor tiles.
A white vanity that comfortably rests on a large tile floor brings the timeless resemblance of elegant bathrooms from the past enmeshed into a modern feel of larger tiles and light wall colours.
NOT JUST AESTHETICS! BATHROOM RENOVATION INVOLVES COMPLEX CONSTRUCTION TOO!
Besides the beauty of the finished work, a lot went into the installation of this Ottawa bathroom. Everything was waterproofed with Schluter systems membranes, the floor received its usual Ditra uncoupling membrane, and the walls were constructed with Schluter Kerdi membrane.
Due to COVID-related supply shortages, it’s been hard to get a hold of Kerdi boards as all Ottawa tile supplies are out of stock. So, we had to revert to the old techniques of installing a Kerdi membrane over the substrate, something we did 10-12 years ago before Kerdi boards came out. Oh, good old times!
After the demolition, we discovered that the existing subfloor was insufficiently supported and there was a lot of floor movement. So, prior to installing Ditra, we added support under the subfloor and reinforced it with a ¼” cement board. Yes, perhaps a total overkill. With Ditra and tiles over it, you can literally park a tank on top of that floor! No movements, no squeaks, just a beautifully clean and elegant bathroom that will serve our customer and their family and guests for many years to come.
Special thanks to our crew members, Oleg and Dimitry for their dedication and hard work. You build for a customer as if you are building for yourself, and that’s the key to a job well done. Thank you Art and Darryl for the plumbing work, and as always, thank you to Anatoliy for his electrical work done on this and all of our other job sites.

Garage Doors Of Ottawa
The first thing that people will notice as they pass by your property is either your manicured lawn or the garage door.
Garage doors hold the widest opening of the house making it the most prominent fixture on your property.
And besides their aesthetic properties, garage doors play a crucial role in securing the garage as it provides easy access to burglars or any illicit activities.
If you’re looking to replace or install a new garage door, at Garage Door Pros, you can choose from our wide selection of high-quality services.
In case you’re not sure about what type of hardware fits your garage, allow us to show you some of the numerous garage doors of Ottawa.
Listed below are a few of the numerous garage door selections you can choose from.
Tilt-up overhead door panel
Tilt-up overhead doors are not new to us all.
This type of garage door has been in the industry for decades and still captivates our hearts with its ergonomic feature and classic look.
A tilt-up overhead door is composed of a single panel usually made out of wood.
This type of hardware is a practical choice for residence with small overhead space in their garage.
However, despite its practical and remarkable qualities, the hardware does not come without weak points.
The maintenance and repairs are quite costly especially if the panel is damaged because it requires you to replace the entire panel.
Carriage or swing-out garage door
A carriage garage door is commonly known as a swing-out door is way more traditional-looking than the tilt-up and easier to operate.
This type of garage door is motorized which no longer requires to be pulled and pushed when operated.
Since the carriage door does not need to occupy the overhead space, you have the liberty to create storage just below the ceiling.
And when it comes to the garage door’s maintenance, it’s way cost-effective and practical over the tilt-up garage door.
Roll-up overhead door
Roll-up doors are a staple in every commercial and industrial property because of their highly resistant qualities from damages and extreme weather.
Although this is not commonly seen in residential property, some homeowners go for this type of garage door because of its durability.
So, when your priority is to secure your residence or business establishment, roll-up doors are highly recommended.
Sliding garage door
The sliding garage door is an all-around type of door that can adapt to any space, even a large and spacious garage.
The sliding garage door is safer and easier as the hardware slides horizontally.
So if you want a simple and safer garage door, then this may be the right one for you.
Also, this type of garage door has a wide range of selections when it comes to its materials.

6 Kitchen Design Ideas to Transform the Heart of Your Home
Chesky_W/iStock
The number of kitchen design ideas out there is downright dizzying. For homeowners looking to make a home improvement—anything from an affordable decorating update to a full-on remodel—photo-sharing sites are a good start. But pinning down (pun intended!) exactly what style suits your home can still be tough. An all-white Scandinavian look can seem ideal for the heart of the home one day, but then you notice that stainless steel is trending and the style starts to grow on you. So how do you make choices for the long haul?
To help you sift through what can only be described as an endless scroll of inspiration, we’ve polled decorating experts and real estate pros to comment on the most popular ideas for kitchen design and how to achieve them. Here are six inspiring looks, whether you’re planning a kitchen remodel or simply like drooling over magazine-worthy kitchens.
1. Classic white kitchen
Simple, clean, and airy, a kitchen with a color palette dominated by white cabinets is a safe bet when it comes to kitchen design.
“Classic white is truly timeless,” notes Anna Shiwlall, an interior designer with 27 Diamonds in Los Angeles. “Not only does it look neat and bright, but it gives the illusion of a bigger space.”
And since white cabinets and countertops are neutral, they allow the room’s design elements to shine. To keep your look from becoming sterile or blinding, add color pops when choosing light fixtures, tile for the backsplash, flooring, appliances, and window treatments.
2. High-tech kitchen
Does your dream kitchen have clean, sleek lines? How about a room with a design that’s so bare, it’s almost hard to tell what room it is? A high-tech kitchen could be the style for you.
“This look focuses on the architecture rather than comfort or color,” notes Catherine Pulcine of CPI Interiors in Ottawa.
Compared with other styles, it can appear sterile and cold, but the minimalism has a way of standing out on its own.
Plus, if you’re thinking about putting your home on the market, a sleek, high-tech kitchen with modern appliances may be a savvy move.
“Homeowners have caught on to the tech trend and are starting to make updates before selling,” reports Cedric Stewart, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Capital Properties in Washington, DC.
Hot features Stewart sees include USB outlets, Wi-Fi-connected refrigerators with touch screens, and smart systems like the Amazon Echo, connecting to compatible smart kitchen devices.
“In high-end condos and row homes that have been flipped in the DC metro area, 93% of them have one or more of these tech elements,” he notes.
3. Modern farmhouse kitchen
Buyers want a kitchen space that’s casual and stylish, but also functional—and a modern farmhouse approach accomplishes this, reports Shiwlall.
As with any trending design, be careful to follow the farmhouse kitchen in moderation, unless you don’t mind doing another remodel in a few years. Your goal is to play up the design without going overboard. (You don’t want a space that screams yeehaw!) Exposed beams and brick, a sliding barn door, and antique accessories like wooden milk crates are enough of a remodel to convey the look.
“A modern farmhouse design lends itself well to repurposing,” says Marty Basher, a design expert with Modular Closets. Old doors, windows, reclaimed wood for shelves and kitchen cabinets—there are many choices when it comes to these materials.
4. High-gloss kitchen
A kitchen made of shiny surfaces is sophisticated, modern, and versatile. It can work with a variety of color palettes. Think lacquer kitchen cabinets, countertops, and accessories in a lemon yellow, Kelly green, or stark white.
High-gloss kitchens tend to catch the natural light and make small kitchens look bigger, which is why “you’ll see this ultrashiny style quite frequently in studio and one-bedroom apartments,” says Bee Heinemann, an interior design expert with Vant Panels, a wall decor company.
Even if you live in a single-family home, making your kitchen look more spacious is never a bad thing, right?
5. Stainless-steel kitchen
Polished metal kitchens lean toward simplicity and functionality, with roots in German and Scandinavian design, Heinemann says.
“The room’s functional aspects allow for multiple uses,” she adds. For example, shelving can be used to store and display your favorite serving ware. An entire wall of steel storage cabinets or a steel backsplash and appliances can serve as design elements. You can even use eye-catching stainless-steel countertops or open-style shelving instead of closed cabinets.
“This modern style may be best suited for an ambitious home cook, as the decor is easy to keep clean and organized,” she says.
Stainless steel is also good for small kitchen design, as it reflects the light and can give a clean, clutter-free look.
6. Kitchen with regional flair
Kitchen design inspired by global regions can be fun and inviting—just make sure it complements the rest of your home decor. In a room that features tile patterns and multiple textures on the floor and walls, each element should work seamlessly with adjacent rooms, recommends Pulcine.
If your home skews toward a soft palette of blue, white, and yellow, a French country–inspired kitchen would be ideal. Richer colors like orange, turquoise, and red are characteristic of Moroccan-inspired tiles and trims—perfect for a colorful backsplash or countertop.
Appliances and brushed-metal light fixtures and drawer pulls in gold, dark brass, or black work well with bright colors and bold tiles.

Want an instant home?
My friends in Quebec at High Cube, led by Patrick Sauvé, build awesome container homes, offices, workshops and hunting cabins.
Their model container home is now for sale for $79,995; that’s Canadian dollars (not USD).
They’ll deliver the model to any place in Ontario or Quebec for free; ie, it’s included in the price. You have to budget an extra $9,900 however for the appliances, furniture and decorations… Also, GST (goods and services taxes) will apply at a 7% rate. If you are using it for a business (like renting it out when you are not using it on Airbnb), you can likely use the GST as a flow through ITC (input tax credit). Check with your accountant.
What they are doing kind of reminds me of the vision that Steven Spielberg had when he made his film, Ready Player One. The hero of the movie lived in the stacks; here’s a screenshot of that. Oh, and by the way, you can, in fact, stack High Cube container homes and other products…

Door Trends: From Ultra Stylish to Super Secretive
Doors provide privacy, protection and separation, and they can be stylish while providing these functions. A cool door can be a design statement and a conversation starter. Or it can be the entrance to a hidden passage or room. Below are several door trends, along with some practical information on materials and costs.
Exterior Doors
This is a standard timber/MDF external door coated with a metal finish. Image: Zeitgeist Photography
Exterior doors have to balance form and function. “The front door needs to be durable enough to withstand the weather and would-be intruders, yet attractive enough to enhance the overall look of your home,” says Dan DiClerico, home expert at Home Advisor.
He recommends taking your cues from the home’s architecture when selecting a door. “A simple steel door will suit a modern, minimalist home, while a carved wood door with sidelights and a transom will be appropriate for more traditional homes, such as craftsman or colonial,” DiClerico explains.
Pros and Cons of the Most Popular Types of Exterior Doors

Exterior doors are available in a variety of materials. DiClerico lists the pros and cons of the three most popular types of exterior doors:
Fiberglass
Pros: The practical option, fiberglass doors combine value, performance and low maintenance. Many fiberglass doors can be painted or stained so you can change the look easily.
Cons: Though their embossed wood textures are convincing, visitors probably won’t mistake them for a real wood door up close. The synthetic material is also prone to cracking.
Steel
Pros: A very popular option nowadays, steel doors are durable, secure and affordable. Most are also extremely energy efficient, making them a good option in extreme climates, whether hot or cold.
Cons: Steel doors are prone to dents and scratches, which are difficult to repair.
Wood
Pros: The most beautiful doors tend to be wood. Solid-wood versions are also extremely durable and weather-resistant, plus dents and scratches can be easily repaired.
Cons: They’re expensive and require regular maintenance, including periodic painting or staining.
Cost/Security

The average price for a new entry door ranges from $500 to $2,000. “This includes installation, though with high-end custom doors the project can quickly exceed $10,000,” DiClerico says. “The labor usually runs between $40 to $90 per hour, with an average of about $70 per hour for a licensed contractor.”
Regarding security, your entry door is only as good as its lock, explains DiClerico. “For best results, HomeAdvisor locksmiths recommend a lock with a 1 inch-long deadbolt and a reinforced metal box strike. For good measure, securely fasten the box strike to the jamb with 3 inch-long screws.”
Amira Johnson at Emerald Doors provides four tips for maintaining your doors. “Clean the doors on a regular basis, oil hinges when needed, replace weather stripping regularly and, when required, repaint them.”
Interior Doors
Check out the doors to this home theater in Salt Lake City. Image: Element Homes
When choosing an interior door, the choices are seemingly endless. “Traditional hinged doors can be either pre-hung or slabs,” DiClerico explains. “Pre-hung doors are mounted in a frame with the hinges already attached to the door jamb. A slab is the just the door itself.”
Some interior door styles are quite popular with consumers. “Pocket doors are good space savers since they don’t swing into the room, sliding doors are common with closets, barn doors are in keeping with the farmhouse look that’s so popular and French doors are great for allowing light into an interior room that doesn’t have many windows.”
If you’re thinking about using an interior door outside, don’t do it, warns Johnson. “Exterior doors typically run 36″ wide, whereas interior doors are not as broad (30″), so cutting will be required.” In addition, she says that exterior doors are designed for rain, snow and UV rays. “So an interior door used outside could end up being warped from this type of abuse,” Johnson says.
Pros and Cons of the Most Popular Types of Interior Doors
There are two unique doors in this San Diego home: the lattice front door and the red barn door. Image: Dunn Carpentry
DiClerico lists the pros and cons of the most popular interior doors as follows:
Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF)
Pros: This engineered material is durable and stable, so it’s not likely to warp.
Cons: It doesn’t show grain the way real wood does.
Solid Wood
Pros: Solid wood doors tend to be the most attractive and they offer good durability, energy efficiency and sound insulation.
Cons: They’re also the most expensive.
Hollow Core
Pros: Made of plywood or molded composite around a hollow core, these doors are the least expensive.
Cons: They’re pretty flimsy and don’t do a good job containing noise or temperature.
Solid Core
Pros: These doors are also made of plywood or molded composite, but with a core that’s filled with wood fiber. They offer better durability and insulation as a result.
Cons: They’re pricier than hollow core doors, averaging about $50 to $200 more.
Costs

You can expect to pay anywhere from $75 to $125 to have a standard interior door installed. “Custom units can run a lot higher, especially if they require a new opening in the wall or the existing opening needs to be modified,” DiClerico explains. “For example, a set of French doors might cost as much as $5,800 to install, according to our True Cost Guide.”
So, what about barn doors? “They’re unique in that they open and close on track hardware that is mounted above the door’s opening. Depending on the size of the door, multiple tracks might be needed,” DiClerico says. “A basic sliding barn door with track hardware starts at $300 and goes up to around $1,000.”

Key Tips to Check When Replacing Your Garage Door
Your garage is that part of your house where you keep your car, but also the place where you may spend hours or weekend afternoons working on a home improvement project or engaging in a relaxing hobby. Many great things can happen in a garage - remember Apple was launched in a garage! So you want it to be as comfortable as possible. For that, one of the key elements is the garage door. Here are some key aspects to check before you decide to upgrade or replace. These include type, material, maintenance, and security. What's the Best Door Type for Your Garage? May consist of a single or several panels, depending on their type, size, and material. They can be roller doors, sectional, swing out or swing up doors. Roller doors are better for smaller garages, as they roll up above the door, and don't require additional space to open, as swing-out doors do. Sectional doors are made of several panels, which lift up vertically, sliding into upper part of the garage. Swing-out doors resemble carriage doors, which is why they are also called carriage garage doors. They can be made of two panels, which swing out automatically. Swing up or tilt up doors open upward, but their disadvantage is that they occupy more space than sectional or roller doors. What Door Material Is Right for You? Initially, most were made of wood, but modern automated are generally made of metal and fiberglass. If you prefer metal to increased protection, you can choose between steel or aluminum. They can also be insulated for increased energy efficiency. Is Your Door Easy to Maintain? Maintaining your door is critical if you want to operate it safely and prolong its life expectancy. Because the garage door is a complex piece of machinery, it is advisable to have it inspected regularly by professionals. This way you make sure it is in good condition, and can be used without risk of injury or damage. Of all the components of a garage door, springs are perhaps the most susceptible to breakdowns because they counterbalance the entire weight of the door. Garage door springs have an estimated life cycle. This tells how many times you can open and close your door in safe conditions before you need to replace the springs. Of course, you won't be able to count how many times you lift and lower your garage door, but you can get an estimate by marking down the installation date in your calendar, and multiplying the number of days and the daily usage. In normal conditions, springs should last for several years, but at some point you they'll break and you'll have to install new ones. How Safe Is Your Garage Door? The security of your is vital. It's best to purchase doors from established manufacturers because this way you can be sure their product complies with industry safety and security standards. Steel doors are regarded as the most secure garage doors. If they're insulated, it's even better because they are more energy efficient.

Types of Sliding Door Locks That Can be Used to Increase Security
Many homes in Australia have sliding doors which allow access onto a patio or garden area. These sliding doors make it easy to step out of the house, and also to allow plenty of air into the property during the summer, but they are one of the weakest, security-wise, of all the different types of doors that are available for the modern home. Sliding doors have been the point of access for most thieves, because they present little resistance, and are usually not provided with additional locks to make the task more difficult.
Why are sliding doors weak?
The main problem with the sliding door is that their very design makes them easy to open, and they allow quiet access into a property where people are most likely to be sleeping. Police checks in one residential area after a spate of burglaries revealed that some sliding doors have been in the house since the 70s and 80s, and they have two main weaknesses. The first is that the 'lock' is simply a lever catch that is often made of plastic, and that by simply wiggling the door up and down, the catch can be made to fall, allowing entry into the property. The second is that the doors themselves are weak, and there have been cases of thieves simply lifting the sliding door off of the track using a crowbar or spade, and simply placing it to one side. Most people do not add extra Sliding Door Locks to prevent this from happening.
What can I do to secure a sliding door?
If you wish to increase security to your sliding doors, then you need to purchase additional locks and fittings which are designed to prevent the door from being opened. One of the most common is a 'broom handle' style lock, which fits between the wall, and the back frame of the sliding door. This prevents the door from being pushed back, keeping it securely in place. The second alternative is to buy a pair of Sliding Door Locks. These are fitted to the frame next to the static door, and into the handle of the moving door. The locks then secure the patio door at the base, preventing it from being lifted up, and also prevent the 'wiggle' trick from opening the door by securing the handle to the frame.

Different Kinds of Garage Door Repair
Eventually you will have need for garage door repair. How extensive the repair needed will vary but every garage door experiences some kind of wear and deterioration, whether it's the panels or the hardware or springs. Some of it can be done yourself while other work, like replacing torsion springs, requires the work of a professional as deadly injuries can result. It also depends on the style of garage door you have. A manual garage door will be easier to repair than one that has a garage door opener. One thing is clear: there is only so much that will need repair as there are only so many kinds of garage doors so the final cost will not be but so bad. These door styles include the retractable door, the canopy, side hinged doors and sectional doors which covers most automatic doors. Unless you have a bard, you won't see many side hinged doors so I won't go into that. All there is to mention there is that if the door itself is damaged, meaning the wood, you will have to replace the whole door. Otherwise the hardware is self explanatory. Modern garage doors open overhead. The first kind of overhead garage door repair would be for retractable doors. These lift up and slide back into the garage on an overhead track using springs that are counter balance. This aids in the opening and closing of the otherwise heavy door. The door generally opens straight out and is framed as a single paned door. Canopy doors are retractable doors that can overhang the driveway to provide basic shelter. The kind of repair for these doors usually requires simple hardware replacement. Sectional doors have their ups and downs. One good thing is it is made up of panels, meaning if one area of the door gets damaged you can disassemble that particular part of the door and replace a single panel. Hardware replacement becomes a little more detailed as each panel has its own hinges and bolts.

How Can I Make My Small Bathroom Look Better?
A small bathroom doesn’t have to appear small. Make your small bathroom appear visually bigger by simply keeping it as airy and open as possible. Light colours with a white ceiling and white trim trick the eye to think the space is larger. Experienced bathroom contractors in Ottawa have the creative design skills to give you more space by using the right fixtures and appliances that serve to reduce that cramped feeling in a small bathroom.
INCREASE LIGHTING IN YOUR SMALL BATHROOM
If you have a source of natural light in your bathroom, that’s great, but you still might need to bring in light sources from wall mount light fixtures, and recessed LED lights in the ceiling. Modern LED lights fit into many different places for added lighting that opens up spaces. Having mirrors, especially the modern LED mirrors bring not only functionality but also style, and they certainly help make the room look bigger. If your goal is a clean and airy bathroom and you need to choose between a mirror or a medicine cabinet with a mirror, a simple mirror will provide a cleaner look. During your bathroom renovations in Ottawa, it’s easy to install lights and mirrors.
BALANCE THE SIZE OF BATHROOM FIXTURES
An important component of making your small bathroom appear bigger and better is the choice of fixtures you make. The vanity and linen tower you install can make the space look big or small. Functional full-size vanities and linen towers provide plenty of storage space, but they can make the bathroom look and feel smaller. In your small bathroom renovation plan, you may need to choose what’s priority—will you sacrifice storage for looks and style, or vice versa? Custom bathroom installations in Ottawa can provide more options because you can fit the appliances or fixtures to the bathroom.
OPEN UP SPACE IN YOUR SMALL BATHROOM
Last but certainly not the least, removing unnecessary partition walls, enclosed spaces and bulkheads opens up the space dramatically. We have all seen bathtubs that have either tile or acrylic walls above it and a bulkhead above. Contrary to common thinking that it might be housing some plumbing or mechanical components, usually it’s empty! So, removing it and making a bathroom ceiling smooth and flush brings in a ton of light and space into the tub and shower area, especially if the tub is being converted into a shower and glass doors are being installed.
This brings us to the next and even more impactful possibility. Instead of having an alcove shower with three tiled walls, remove one partition wall, if possible, and have two tiled walls and a sliding glass door with a side glass return panel. This will open up the shower area dramatically and make your entire bathroom look and feel much bigger.
Of course, there are many more things to consider, but we have listed some key points to keep in mind when you want to make your small bathroom look and feel bigger than it is. Working with an experienced bathroom remodeler in Ottawa to plan your bathroom is a good start toward your goals. Contact us for more information.
