The Development of Wooden Furniture Industry
Tumblr media
Because of its resource and labour intensity, the wood furniture sector presents an opportunity for developing countries and their firms to participate effectively in the global economy. It is good to know a brief description of the global wood furniture industry and highlights the importance of exports wood furniture products for developing countries and emerging and transitional economies. the wood furniture value chain and opens-up the nature of the buying function, since this function represents the key form of control over global production networks in this sector (that is, the wood furniture chain is what is increasingly referred to as a “buyer-driven chain”). what producers need to do in order to upgrade their activities, particularly in developing countries. The largest furniture showroom in Salem has a wide variety of wooden furniture.
In order to address these issues the authors describe the evolution of an initiative designed to promote the upgrading of one segment of the wood furniture industry in a middle income country. Furniture has traditionally been a resource and labour-intensive industry that includes both local craft-based firms and large volume producers. Mass producing furniture became a viable manufacturing strategy with the advent of flat-pack or ready-to-assemble designed furniture. This product innovation paved the way for firms to design, manufacture and ship products in large quantities. Firms that mass-produce flat-pack furniture tend to supply products for the low- to medium-price markets. Solid wood furniture manufacturers have retained important niche market segments primarily for high-end, expensive and design-led products. These specialized products tend to be purchased locally while mass-produced, large-volume products are sold locally and for export. A modern furniture shop in Salem offers designer furniture.
Industrialized countries on the whole export and import large volumes of furniture with Italy by far the largest net exporter, with Canada, Denmark, Spain and Sweden in third, seventh, tenth and fourteenth places respectively. The Harmonized System of product classification distinguishes four wood product groups, namely office furniture, kitchen furniture, bedroom furniture, and dining/living and shop furniture as well as metal and plastic furniture and furniture parts. These product groupings do not differentiate between craft and mass-produced items or between low- and high-priced market items. Wood furniture is becoming increasingly competitive, with more producers entering the market and prices falling.
An industry in the throes of intense global competition, and therefore moving towards a common and falling global price. This suggests either lower barriers to entry and new entrants, or increasing efficiency and falling costs (or both). Countries can participate in the global market in market segments with sustained price declines, as in furniture, but in this scenario rising exports will not necessarily result in profitable production or in national income growth. The wood furniture value chain, which for the forestry sector involves the provision of seed inputs, chemicals, equipment and water. Cut logs then go to the sawmill, which obtains its primary inputs from the machinery sector. The best furniture showroom in Salem has imported furniture.

P L A C E S
_ gardens _
Tumblr media
The gardens are in the more immediate property of the Estate. They're located near the West Wing of the building. The gardens are expansive, enclosed with hedges. The main garden with the flowers, fountain and little stream/fish pond can be found by traveling through the hedge maze.
_ fitness _
Tumblr media
Many of the royals have great pressure on them to keep in tip top shape, and many like the option to. The Estate provides two main outlets for working out. They have a gymnasium complete with an indoors basketball court, gym mats and a volleyball net set up.
_ outdoors - hangouts _
Tumblr media
For the outdoorsy royals, there's several spots for hanging out.
Top Left: The Lake. During the warmer seasons, many of the royals take to the lake for swimming, or hanging out. Parties have been known to take place by the lake. During the off seasons, figure skating is something many of the royals take part in.
Top Right: The Cabin. During the initial years of the Estate, during the Pilot Program, there was a great deal of uncertainty on whether the royals they were keeping would try to escape or not. Before developing a better security system, they used the cabin as a guards post. While it's been mostly abandoned, some of the royals use it as a hookup spot, or just to get away.
Bottom Left: The Woods. With the estate being as vast as it is, the property expands over several acres of land. A great deal of the land being wooded area. There have been man made trails flattened out for the royals to walk about or ride the horses from the stables along.
Bottom Right: The Field. A grassy field is also found on the expanse of the property. The keepers of the Estate keep the grass trimmed and maintained. Many of the royals bring their horses up there or picnic.
_ school - places _
Tumblr media
Between the two dormitory buildings, there's the building for classes and community meals. As well as the physical fitness areas, swimming pool and hospital wing.
Left: The Hallways. The hallways are thin and generally not used for a main hangout spot. But they are busy and packed with students most days. The windows all have wide sills so some students sit in them and view the property.
Top Right: The general classroom setting is a modern, small lecture room looking area. These classrooms are the normal for both academic and royal classes. Though gym is held in the gymnasium, outside or the fitness center. And art is held in another classroom.
Bottom Right: The dining hall is a modern area with cushioned seating and a more restaurant looking sort of vibe. The tables often seat four or six. There's a buffet for salads during lunch and supper and breakfast foods in the morning. The main courses are served at the roundabout bar by cafeteria workers.
_ dorms _
Tumblr media
Top Left: Bedrooms. All dorm bedrooms are identical in size. Though set up is varied. Many of the royals design their own room outlays to their particular styles. Though furniture such as a bed, desk and night table are provided, most royals return these for storage and bring in their own. Each bedroom has it's own ensuite bathroom that includes a tub/shower area, a standing shower, a two person sink and toilet area. The rooms host two people.
Middle Left: The hallways. They greatly resemble a hotel in structure and are carpeted and decorated with vintage desks and chair sets. The walls are adorned with pictures of past royals.
Bottom Left: Another outlay for the bedroom space provided. Refer to Top Left.
Top Right: Theater Room. In each dorm, there's a theater room. It's linked to a program that contains several movies and tv shows, as well as music programs. It has a surround sound system. Most dorms host a movie night every now and then.
Middle Right: The dorm kitchens have a very modern look. They have all the means for royals to take care of their cooking needs. While most royals eat meals in the main dining hall, some prefer cooking for themselves or like snacking at night. Most times, guards stop by every now to ensure the royals aren't getting up to no good.
Bottom Right: Entertainment room. Each dorm also holds an entertainment room that are frequented by the royals. They have pool tables, a sitting area with a flat screen tv and the same program as the theater.
_ gameroom _
Tumblr media
In the main part of the building, there’s a game room for the royals to entertain themselves. This part of the building is new, and was built for the initiate program’s arrival. An endowment from one of the Pilot Program Royals parents was what paid for it being built. The game room is much like an arcade, and has several vintage games, as well as ping pong, pool, air hockey and ski ball.
_ library _
Tumblr media
Within the main part of the Estate is the library. It has a more vintage look, with three floors. The three floors is home to fresh on the market computers, books, and desks. The spiral staircase is the way to the second and third floor of the library.
_ hospital - wing _
Tumblr media
Because so many royals tend to be private, especially because half the treatments within the place are stomach pumps, overdose treatments, and prenatal care the Estate started off with a hospital wing to treat as many possible things they could. Their equipped for small surgical procedures and often have private transportation to the private hospital in town for any other procedures not provided at the Estate.
_ general - hangouts _
Tumblr media
Top Left: Cafe. The cafe is a small coffee shop that most royals take to for hanging out. They serve several hot and cold beverages, as well as baked goods. Many of the royals go there for their morning coffee and snacks. They often hang out there between classes and after meals. The cafe closes at 12AM and reopens at 8AM.
Bottom Left: Stables. One of the things Royal Pains prides itself on is it's equestrian ventures for royals. Since many royals are taught to ride at an early age, the estate provided an opportunity to bring their horses.
Top Right: Courtyard. In the back of Estate is the Courtyard. It's a simple fountain area with a small hedge and a few benches for sitting down. Most royals don't hangout there so the ones who do are often seeking out peace and quiet.
Bottom Right: Swimming Pool. As another outlet for fitness and general recreation, the Estate's provided a swimming area. The swimming area also has a whirlpool tub. Though there's a locking system and there's a pass required, students have been known to break in.
_ town - hangouts _
Tumblr media
Along with Estate hangouts, there's several spots in town. While it's much harder to obtain passes to actually make it out into town, some royals have been known to sneak off the property and go out. Which is when they're most known to hit these party spots.
Top Left: Salem's Gate. Salem's Gate is a frequently populated bar in town. It's bigger, with several tables and a big bar space for people to sit at. They have waitresses to serve drinks to those sitting and often have some form of live music playing.
Bottom Left: Nightsounds. The Nightsounds club is frequently by the younger crowd. If someone's looking for live DJ's, loud music and a spot to dance, Nightsounds is the place to go. There's a few sitting spots, but most people don't go to hang out.
Top Right: Arden's Casino. Arden's is an underground casino. It's not popularly known, but the royals of the estate with trust funds to gamble away are the biggest customers. The Casino runs all night on the weekends.
Bottom Right: Smoke and Mist Pub & Grill. The Pub and Grill is a small hangout known for their homemade selection of fast food. They occasionally hold a karaoke night. It's not a popular spot for royals, but some go for the food.
Tumblr media
Shopping Center: The shopping center is a popular spot for royals to hangout at. When most get their passes to go out, this is their go to spot. It holds several high end and common stores, as well as cafe's, dessert places, little boutiques, jewelry and tea shops. They also have a food court for those who decide they want to stop and have a meal while they're shopping.
Tumblr media
Top: Arbello’s. One of the more upscale restaurants in town. While the town isn’t thriving with rich families, enough teenagers saving up for dates and the presence of the royals has caused high enough demand for the place to stay open. It has a large floor setting with a dim, romantic lighting.
Middle: The Beach Restaurant. This particular restaurant is a semi-upscale place sitting on the beach front property. With a lot of natural lighting, a wide open floor plan, a view and a bar, this is a popular spot amongst the townsfolk and royals alike. During the spring and summer seasons it’s not so uncommon that it’s booked out for wedding receptions and other events.
Bottom: R&W Diner and Drive-Thru. A popular spot for townspeople. The diner is known for it’s homemade fast food. Along with friendly service, old timey feel and family vibe. Not many royals frequent the area, but the occasional few do.
Tumblr media
Top: The Beach. A popular hangout for the people of the town during the warmer seasons. The beach also has a restaurant known as the Oasis. It opens it doors in the Springs and closes them at the end of September. But the beach is accessible all year round.
Bottom: The Swimming Hole. The swimming hole is a popular spot among the younger crowd and families that grew up in the town. But royals on passes during the summer tend to take the opportunity to go swimming and host parties at the swimming hole.

Wait? I’ve never read them? Why are the DS novels ‘gross.’ ?
Lara Parker’s books are generally skeevy and horny. She’ll sometimes use overly sensual descriptors, like the characters themselves may not be horny she’s just trying to titillate the reader.
The characters often are horny though. And in gross ways. I think the most emblematic moment is when Barnabas goes furniture shopping for his house, and while he’s there fantasizes about assaulting underage boys in the back alley.
Also no one is actually friends with anyone else, it’s like a fricken battle royale. Every character for themself.
I will say there were two things out of Salem Branch I really like as ideas, which are Julia having some kind of biohazard accident while handling Barnabas’s blood samples, and human Barnabas having sensory issues with modern food. Food now (or in the 60s) just be different than it was in the 1700s and I enjoy the idea of him having to get used to it

Term Life Insurance at age 21?
I am 21 and I was wondering if I should purchase a $1,000,000 term life insurance policy through USAA. I received a quote for $42.19 (and an additional $11.66 for waiver of disability) and the premium is guaranteed for 30 years. Do I need this policy at my age? Also, should I get the Waiver of Disability for $11.66 more per month? All answers are appreciated!""

I had a 6 month policy. It ended the 20th of this month. However my insurance was due the 28 of last month and I wasn't able to pay it. Will my license get suspended if I don't have insurance? I don't drive it, it just sits in the drive way. Am I okay as long as I'm not driving or does it not matter? If it does matter does anyone know anything I can do to keep it from getting suspended? Also does anyone know of any affordable insurance companies? I'm 20 years old, so I know it's gonna be more for me than someone over 25.""
""After 7 years out of country, why the high car insurance rate?""
Seven years ago, I got a job working overseas. I sold my car here in the US before I left. Now I have returned to the US to live and I bought a car. I was shocked at the insurance rate - the cheapest I could find for a 2013 Ford Fiesta was $1112 for six months of coverage! I asked the agent why the rate was so sky high. Well, because the assumption is that you have been driving here in the US as an uninsured motorist for the past seven years . I tried to show proof that I was living overseas for those seven years, and that I didn't have any vehicle to insure in the US. But my explanation fell on deaf ears. Is there any way to explain my situation to Safeco (the insurance company)?""
Why is car insurance so high for young drivers?
I am 18 and currently on my fathers motor trade insurance. This covers me for anything upto 1600cc for social and domestic, you are actually having a laugh 1600cc is a joke! I can drive anything for business purposes. Recently rang the insurance to see if they would insure me on an IVECO DAILY 2.8 turbo diesel, as i was delivering some furniture to my grand parents in malta, about 1000 miles away from the uk, 2000 mile round trip. The answer i got was a blatant no, i didn't even get chance to say .8, anyway i was so pissed off i did the trip. didn't have one accident what so ever, not even a near miss when i drove to malta there and back. explain why they wouldn't insure me i really don't understand. My dads friend who is 53 years old was born not to drive a car, he has an accident atleast once a week because he mentally switches off when he drives. He drove down to germany any rolled his car times on the autobahn and i didn't have a crash or a near miss once in a 3.5 ton van, where is the common sense surely they should coin the people who litterally can't drive?""
How come I went on geico for an insurance quote and it said 2000 and people say their's is 75 bucks per year?
Im 18, NY, Kawasaki ZZR600, taken riders safety course, any way to lower my insurance?""
Can I get Classic Car insurance?
I'm 16 and have been looking at a lot of classic cars (specifically a 1971-1973 Mustang Mach 1) and ran into a bit of a dilemma... My dad is a car dealer, owning his own used dealership, so he has insurance that covers all the cars, rather than just one. But, you have to be 18 to be under that policy, so I can't be on it, and I've heard that unless you're under you parents policy, you can't have classic car insurance until you're 25. But, I heard that you can get liability only (Which is my state's minimum coverage), so I was wondering if that was true. Would I be able to get just liability on a classic car? Or should I just cut out all the complicated stuff and get a modern car?""

High performance car insurance?
Basically this is really annoying me. Me and my dad aren't really bothered about the monthly cost of my insurance on a Mazda RX8. I'm 18 years old, but nobody will insure me? Seems fair? Wrong. My friend, who's dad is an investment banker has just got a factory build Audi R8 quatro V10. He's also 18, but I don't understand how he has even got a quote let alone full cover. He tells me hes insured in his name but his dad won't tell him how much it costs. Now, obviously their family is greatly richer than mine, but still, my family can afford the insurance, just like his family can. Why do they insure him and not me? When his car is classed as a super car, and mine is in the sports car class. We have both have just recently passed our tests if that helps.""

What kind of car insurance for a adapted van?
Ok I have a 1993 Dodge Caravan. I am disabled so it has a ramp that is let out and brought back in. I need to make sure that if it is ever totaled that i dont get just blue book. since i have to have a adapted van (i live in a rural area and there is no dependable handicapped public transportation) i have the permanent general insurance now, with a $1000 on the custom equipment. but i worry thats not enough or maybe even doesnt cover my handicap adaptions. the agent with them was snappy, rude, and didnt know anything.. ugh! what company should i go to? what do i need to have in my policy? help! i keep getting all this bad advice from the insurance companies because no one knows what to do!!!""

My job offers awful health insurance?
Our company got bought out & our new employer is doing open enrollment for health insurance next year. I currently have roughly a $75 monthly premium with a $500 deductible, then the employer pays 80%. The insurance I'm being offered has a $60 monthly premium, $100 deductible, then the insurer pays 80%, but only pays a max of $750 for the year. As it was explained to me, it is like partial health insurance-but I think this won't be enough to cover what I need. I had major surgery last month & even after meeting my deductible, the out of pocket expenses were a struggle. So should I get a HSA or apply for supplemental health insurance? The other employees at my company are in the same position as I am & I feel awful having to look elsewhere for better coverage. No spam please, I beg you!""
""What are some practical, sensible alternatives to forcing people to carry health insurance or pay a tax?""
I have a problem with paying for people who don't carry insurance, like a certain brother-in-law who works as a handy man, lives paycheck to paycheck, smokes like a chimney, and refuses to buy health insurance. He is one accident or one case of lung cancer away from passing on a huge hospital bill to the rest of us. If we remove the requirement for people to carry health insurance, what is the alternative? Would we remove the requirement for hospitals to treat anyone who either did not have insurance or could prove they could pay the full cost out of pocket? Maybe people like my brother-in-law could get a tattoo on their butt that says Dear Doctor, I gambled and lost, let me die! Or maybe we let the states deal with the issue. Then the federal government could withold Medicare/Medicaid funding from any state that didn't ensure someway, somehow that everyone has affordable healthcare available. Lets solve the problem 50 times and 50 different ways instead of once. Gee that sounds better! So yea - whats the alternative? If its such a bad thing to make people buy health insurance, then give me a GOOD, practical alternative?""

How much will my car insurance go up because of a ticket?
The other day, I was in a hurry to get to school, and I was pulled over going 70mph in a 45mph speed zone. I was issued a $101.99 speeding ticket and was NOT charged with reckless driving or anything else. I haven't told my father yet (I'm not yet 18.), but I am selling a lot of video games I do not play anymore to pay for the ticket and any other increased insurance rates. My question is: how much will my car insurance (USAA Full Coverage) rates increase per month because of this ticket? I drive a 2008 Super Black 350z, and I have been involved in an accident, so my rates are already about $500/mo. Friends have told me that my insurance will go up at least $200. Is this true? More or less? Or is there a percentage of my current rate that it increases by. Any help would be appreciated, so I know how much I should expect to pay my father when he sees the ticket on my insurance report. Thanks!""

OK. In theory, if I was driving in another state, some distance from MA and therefore where the police are not familiar with how MA does things, and get pulled over, would the officer know that I was insured, even if I was unable to produce the little card, or would he always assume that without it, the driver is uninsured? the insurance is listed on the registration, but...""

Should I notify my car insurance company if I paid for the fix myself?
I had a minor car accident in a Costco parking lot last weekend. I was backing out my parking lot; the other guy was also backing out. Unfortunately, we didn't see each other... Anyway, this seems to be a 50-50 accident. The damage to the cars are moderate and we agreed on just fixing ourselves. So no personal information was exchanged. I got an estimate today. The cost for fixing my car is not cheap but still lower than the minimal requirement for accident reporting in California. It is also lower than my insurance deductible. So I plan neither to report to DMV nor to file a claim. But one friend of mine suggested that in this case, I should still notify (but not to file a claim to) my insurance company. His argument is that the other party can still come back and sue me (if he is a freak). While we didn't exchange information, the other party may have remembered my license plate number so theoretically he could find out all other information about me. But I am not sure if notifying the insurance company will affect my premiums. What do you think?""

Its just body damage and no one else was involved. Also if I use my rental coverage will that make my premium go up (i.e. is premium tied to how much the total claim cost)? Thanks
How much would insurance be for a 18 year old girl for a 2006 mustang?
I live in NY. I'm looking into buying a 2006 mustang (not gt). I've had my license for about two years. I will be on my parents insurance (state farm) but the car will be in my name and I will need full coverage. I have a good job but, I'm just looking for estimates on what it will cost me monthly or yearly.Thank you!""

How to take care of Your Décor Furniture
Tumblr media
Nothing says tacky a couple's home like dirty and wiped out furniture. Many of us will buy good furniture but let it run down by sheer negligence or lack of knowhow on caring for it. In other cases, the furniture could also be wiped out by the heavy and abusive use. If the furniture was of poor quality it breaks down very quickly. If you buy furniture in Salem, you need not worry about all these factors because only the high-class quality products are delivered from Lakshmi Hayagreevar, the leading Furniture Showroom in Salem.
Décor furniture especially that covered in upholstery can get dirty quite fast if not cared for well or exposed to dust and dust. Sofas, beds, and other furniture covered upholstery are prone to fade with time if left in harsh sunlight.
Shabby chic furniture shop has some tips to share on the way to take care of their distressed décor furniture.
1.Cleaning
Upholstery should be vacuumed a minimum of once weekly and therefore the loose covers laundered weekly too. Dirt that has fallen in hard to achieve places like crevices under cushions should even be cleared with a narrow object.
2. Protecting fabric
Spills and stains will be avoided by using spray fabric protectors. These will be applied when the upholstery is being installed. you'll also buy commercial
3. Caring for cushions
Cautions that remain at one point for long tend to sink as they get sat on day after day. it's important to flip them and rotate them to a different spot.
4. Rearrange furniture
To avoid one item being employed too frequently and wearing out faster than the remainder of the furniture, rearrange the furniture a minimum of once in six months.
5. Rest covers
Headrests, chair backs and armrests wear out faster than the remainder of the parts. They also get dirty faster as they are available into contact with bare skin and hair. One can get a canopy for the remainder within the same color. These covers are barely noticeable but very effective in protecting the upholstery fabric.
Washable slipcovers are excellent to use in warm weather as they will be easily washed while they effectively protect the furniture against stains and spills.
6. Caring for bare wood
For bare parts of furniture Psychology Articles, a humid cloth should be wont to wipe off dust and the other stains. Dusting frequently is suggested to stop the dust from caking into a tough coat that's harder to urge off.
You can opt to renew the shine on bare wood by using polish or wax. Applying polish is less complicated but polish can cake up if applied too persistently. Wax will be washed off with oil soap and a brand-new coat applied.
When the upholstery gets too old, you'll always head back to Shabby chic furniture. Buy furniture online in Salem for new distressed home décor.

39 New Boston Restaurants to Check Out This Fall
Tumblr media
It’s going to be a delicious season
Fall 2017 is going to be an exciting season in the Boston area’s dining scene. There are many restaurant openings on the horizon, including a number of expansions of well-loved local restaurants. Moody’s Delicatessen, for example, is expanding from Waltham to Back Bay; Union Square’s Ebi Sushi will get a Fenway sibling, Sushi Kappo; Boston Chops will add a Downtown Crossing location; and Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar is expanding from Back Bay to Fort Point.
Newer faces on the scene will include a “fine-casual” Eastern Mediterranean restaurant in the South End called Anoush’ella; Boston’s first cat cafe, Purr, in Brighton; Field & Vine, a Somerville restaurant from a couple of Bronwyn alums; and more.
The upcoming season also includes the expansions of a few high-profile out-of-towners, such as Portland’s Eventide Oyster Co., opening a sibling spot (with a slightly different concept) in Fenway; New York’s iconic Magnolia Bakery, whose Boston expansion comes admittedly a few years past the cupcake bubble, but it’ll be a fun spot nonetheless; New York’s extraordinarily popular food cart and restaurant empire, the Halal Guys; and a massive New York-based music venue and restaurant with a focus on wine, City Winery. And of course, there will be poke: Pokéworks, which already has one local outpost in Somerville, is expanding to Harvard Square.
Here’s the rundown on upcoming openings in and around Boston for fall 2017 and beyond (as well as a few late summer openings). Something missing? Email [email protected]; this guide will be updated throughout the season.

Food at Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar’s Back Bay location. The restaurant will expand to Fort Point this fall.
75 on Seaport Square
This will be the latest in a group that includes 75 Chestnut and 75 on Liberty Wharf, as well as Boston’s two Cheers locations and Hampshire House. It will be located in a Seaport complex that includes a Kings Bowl and Tuscan Grill, and it’ll serve American comfort food. Projected opening: November 2017. 60 Seaport Blvd., Seaport District, Boston
1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizza
Based in New Jersey, 1000 Degrees Neapolitan Pizza has locations all over the country, and its first Massachusetts location will open near Government Center in Downtown Boston, serving Neapolitan-style pizza in a Chipotle-style setting. Customers move down the line, choosing their toppings, and then the pizza is cooked at 1000 degrees for two minutes. Projected opening: August 24, 2017. 45 Court St., Government Center, Boston
Anoush’ella Saj Kitchen
This new South End restaurant will serve “fine-casual” Eastern Mediterranean food (with a focus on Armenian cuisine), centered around a flatbread called m’anoush that is prepared on a saj, a special convex griddle. The restaurant’s name means “may it be sweet.” Beer, wine, and cocktails will be available. Projected opening: By the end of August 2017. 35 West Newton St., South End, Boston
Boston Chops
Like its big sibling in the South End, the second Boston Chops steakhouse will be in the former home of a bank, although more recently, the Temple Street space was home to a restaurant called Mantra. Expect a private dining room in the old bank vault and a table lit specifically for Instagrammers. Projected opening: October 2017. 52 Temple Pl., Downtown Crossing, Boston
Boston Juicing
Boston’s obsession with juice continues with a new shop in Charlestown that will serve cold-pressed juices, smoothies, “healthy alternative snacks,” and teas. Projected opening: September 2017. 283 Main St., Charlestown, Boston
City Winery
A venue for food, music, and wine that has its roots in New York City will finally arrive in the West End in October. City Winery will serve as a concert venue and private event space, in addition to a winery and restaurant. The venue will have more than 30,000 square feet of space, and the restaurant will seat 100, while the entertainment area will seat 300. There will also be an outdoor courtyard. Projected opening: October 16, 2017. 1 Canal St., West End, Boston
Earls Kitchen + Bar
This Canadian chain — named for two men named Earl, hence the lack of an apostrophe — will open its second Massachusetts location this year; there’s already one in Somerville’s Assembly Row. The forthcoming location will be inside of the Prudential Center in Boston’s Back Bay, and it’ll feature a pretty nice-looking roof deck, complete with fire pits. Projected opening: September 6, 2017. 800 Boylston St., Back Bay, Boston
Eventide Fenway
This forthcoming sibling to Portland, Maine’s acclaimed Eventide Oyster Co. won’t be exactly the same as its older sibling, but some of Eventide’s greatest hits — hello, brown butter lobster roll — will be available at the new spot, which will be “casual” and “counter-service.” Projected opening: Early fall 2017. 1321 Boylston St., Fenway, Boston

The Halal Guys
What started as a New York City food cart has turned into a burgeoning empire full of carts and brick-and-mortar, fast-casual restaurants that serve up plates of chicken and rice, gyros, and more. The first Boston location (a brick-and-mortar) will be in the Theatre District, and after that, stay tuned for details on locations arriving in the Financial District, the West End near TD Garden, Back Bay, Downtown Crossing, and Cambridge’s Porter Square. Projected opening: September 8, 2017. 115 Stuart St., Theatre District, Boston
Lolita Cocina & Tequila Bar
With one location already in operation in Boston’s Back Bay, Lolita will add a second spot in Fort Point later this year. The restaurant will be twice the size of its original counterpart, with an added bonus of an expanded menu and even more tequila. Projected opening: Late summer/early fall 2017. 253 Summer St., Fort Point, Boston
Magnolia Bakery
New York’s famous Magnolia Bakery, a hallmark of the cupcake boom of the early 2000s, has been promising a Boston location for years, and now it’s almost here, opening at Faneuil Hall Marketplace. Projected opening: October 2017. 2-4 Faneuil Hall Marketplace, Downtown Boston, Boston
Moody’s Delicatessen & Provisions
Joshua Smith is expanding his meat empire in a few ways this year, including a Back Bay version of his popular Waltham deli. The new location will be similar to the original, reports Zagat, with the addition of “lighter cafe fare,” such as grain bowls, avocado toast, bagels, and daily flatbread specials. Plus, he’s adding a couple of adjacent spots to his existing Waltham space; see details in the Waltham section below. Projected opening: Late September 2017. 500 Boylston St., Back Bay, Boston
Our Fathers Delicatessen
This “modern Jewish deli inspired by old school tradition but firmly rooted in new school ways” comes from the group behind Franklin Cafe, Tasty Burger, and Citizen Public. It will open in the Continuum building in Lower Allston, and it’s going to have some pretty cool windows. Projected opening: Fall 2017. 196 N. Harvard St., Lower Allston, Boston
Purr Cat Cafe
Purr’s owner Diane Kelly is in the midst of fundraising for some final supplies needed to open the first-ever cat cafe in Boston. The cats have started moving into the space, and the crowdfunding will go towards furniture, point-of-service systems, and more. Projected opening: By mid-September 2017. 167 Chestnut Hill Ave., Brighton, Boston
Rogue Lounge
Located in the former North Star space, Rogue Lounge is slated to serve sushi, small plates, and more, alongside cocktails and beer, and there’ll be live music and DJs. There will also be private dining space available, and the lounge will have quite a few televisions. Projected opening: September 2017. 222 Friend St., West End, Boston
Scorpion Bar
The Big Night Entertainment Group (Red Lantern, Empire, and more) will open a version of one of its Connecticut venues, Scorpion Bar, in Boston’s Seaport this fall, full of tequila and tacos. The multi-story space will also include a nightclub called the Grand. Projected opening: October 2017. 58 Seaport Blvd., Seaport District, Boston
Sushi Kappo
The co-owner of Union Square, Somerville’s Ebi Sushi will open a new restaurant on Fenway’s “restaurant row,” featuring a similar menu and “good deals on lunch combos.” The new restaurant will have seating for 16; owner Jose Garcia expects that more than half the business will be takeout. Projected opening: October 1, 2017. 86 Peterborough St., Fenway, Boston
White Bull Tavern
This new Faneuil Hall venue will serve oysters, pizza, small plates, rotisserie entrees, and more. It’ll be open for lunch and dinner every day, plus Sunday brunch. Idealist City Guide: BOSTON food, design and style
The beautiful city of Boston is well known for its New England style food, history and accent. Just a short hop from New York on the eastern coast of the United States and famed for its place in New England history, for Harvard, MIT and the Kennedys, Kerouac and countless other famous names, it’s a great place to get a taste of America.
There are many great areas of Boston to enjoy, from the upscale stores downtown, Newbury Street and Back Bay, to the Italian neighbourhood in the North End, Charles Street on Beacon Hill and across the river into Cambridge and Harvard Square. Unlike many American cities, Boston is eminently walkable, although the T transit system is cheap and convenient too.
On our trip, we stayed across the river near Kendall Square, where thanks to MIT there’s a bunch of hotels and AirBnB choices. While in town we recommend visiting the Museum of Fine Arts, Harvard Square, the JFK Museum and if you have time taking a whale-watching trip off the coast.
Today’s tour is focused on great places to visit, shops for unique finds and fun spots to eat and stay.
Boston’s best Galleries & Museums
Boston MFA facade with the Appeal to the Great Spirit monument
Museum of Fine Arts: The Museum of Fine Arts in Boston has a massive comprehensive art collection — over 450,000 pieces, in fact. Exhibits here range from traditional paintings to more abstract images and even films. It’s also a great place for newer fans of art to get a glimpse at some of the various styles and media.
465 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115 (617) 267-9300
Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum
Down the road from the MFA and the legacy of Isabella Stewart Gardner, art collector, philanthropist, and art patron, the museum emulates a 15th-century Venetian palace, drawing particular inspiration and houses an art collection of world importance including Titian, Rembrandt, Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli, Manet, Degas, Whistler and Matisse. It’s also home to exhibitions of contemporary art and many concerts and lectures. Visitors dressed in Boston Red Sox gear get discounted entrance and visitors called Isabella get in for nothing. Go Red Sox! The new wing by Renzo Piano cost a whopping $120 million.
25 Evans Way, Boston, MA 02115
Institute of Contemporary Art: The Institute of Contemporary Art was founded in 1936 to honour and preserve contemporary art. It features unique exhibitions which change regularly, so be sure to check out what they have while you’re in town. This is more of your edgy contemporary art, but the view of the harbour and the building itself are worth the trip alone.
25 Harbor Shore Drive, Boston, MA 02210 (617) 478-3100
Old State House: The Old State House is often considered to be where the American revolution started. It’s the oldest surviving building in Boston, and one of the oldest public buildings in the United States. Visitors can learn about the history of Boston and explore the actual site of the Boston Massacre of 1770.
206 Washington St, Boston, MA 02109 (617) 720-1713
Style Shopping Boston
South End is well known for its well-heeled neighbourhoods, so if you’re looking for home accessories, antiques or unique finds, start your search there. Across the river in Cambridge is the Cambridge Antiques Market (East Cambridge, near Lechmere in what is otherwise not the prettiest of areas) which is a fab spot for vintage interior pieces.
Art and Unique Objects
There are some great places to shop for interesting things to take home, from markets, to art and gift stores, comic book stores and bookshops. We love:
South End Open Market @ SoWa – Every Sunday from May through October, locals and tourists alike flock to the South End for this open market. Tents range from crafts, design, and vintage, to food trucks and farmers’ market.
Shake The Tree – carries handmade jewellery, home goods, stationery, small brand apothecary, craft cocktail supplies + barware, global cookbooks, and baby gifts. Inspired by travels to Paris, the souks in Morocco and the vibrant colours of flower markets in India, owner Marian Klausner has filled the brightly lit space with everything she loves. The store is located in Boston’s historic “North End” Italian waterfront neighborhood, close to the Freedom Trail. 67 Salem Street, North End, Boston 617.742.0484 [email protected]
The stores at the Museum of Fine Art, Institute of Contemporary Art and the Isabella Stewart Gardner museum (listed above). These are all great spots for tasteful stuff you can fit in your suitcase.
