Add Smartness To Your Space With Automated Blinds
Why settle for the regulars when you can have an updated regular? Your window deserves the smartness you possess too. Add some smartness to your window treatment, not for others but for your soul. Feel the brilliance of aesthetics with SunBlinds's automated window blinds in Edmonton!
SunBlinds offers a wide range of shades and types of automated window blinds.
Here are some famous picks of automated blinds in Edmonton-
1. Automated Zebra Blinds
The altering sheer and solid panels of zebra blinds, when controlled remotely, the smooth slides will leave your visitors in awe. It allows light and privacy equally at the same time. Enjoy the cool spring breeze or prevent scorching heat from entering your space; zebra blinds are the most effective.
2. Automated Honeycomb Blinds
Honeycomb blinds, also known as cellular blinds, are versatile and practical window treatments. The unique design of honeycomb-shaped pockets traps air and provides excellent insulation and energy efficiency to your space. With a wide range of colors and styles, honeycomb blinds effortlessly combine functionality with aesthetic appeal. It offers privacy, light-control and helps reduce noise pollution, making it a popular choice for any home or office space when opting for an automated mechanism.
3. Automated Innowin Blinds
The most modern window blinds in Canada and an updated version of combi blinds is innowin blinds. If you wish to work in enough natural light without compromising privacy, the sheer & solid formation of this blind is apt. When tilted to the desired angle, the translucent layer paired with solid horizontal vanes allows sunlight in but keeps strange eyes out of the frame. When operated automatically, this can create a fanned look that is soft, elegant, and beautiful. You might try out such blinds for ceiling-to-floor slides.
4. Automated Roller Blinds
Last but not the least! This is the most preferred window blind in Edmonton of all time. An automated roller blind suits expansive windows, office windows, or cabins. Whether you need complete privacy or ample light, it allows all. All you need is to choose the preferred shade. You may add some drama to your space by opting for customized printed roller blinds.
Speaking of blinds, there are tons of rumours about automated window treatment. It's costly-overpriced-not for all-disturbance in the mechanism-problematic installation and whatnot. We say, Take A Pause! Let SunBlinds Inc break the myths for you.
The Common Myths Busted
Myth#1 Troublesome Mechanism
It's not like operating on a body. Right? It is as simple as you control your TV unit or sound system remotely. All it needs is timely maintenance. Consider your body, for instance; if you don't maintain yourself, you will get lethargic and eventually have trouble working. It is not at all complex as it appears. At SunBlinds, we offer sun sensor-activated automated, suitable for high-low voltage, cordless window blinds.
Myth#2 Problematic Installation
Relax! When you purchase SunBlinds, we offer a completely hassle-free installation service. Mainly any window blinds company would install the automated blinds for you. But we differ in enlightening our customers about maintaining its smooth functioning, a lifetime mechanism warranty, and a client-first approach.
Myth#3 Costly
Yes, it is slightly higher in price than the regular blinds. But it's not sky-high! You won't have to spend a fortune on automated blinds. We don't decorate our interior now and then. It's mostly a one-time purchase. To elevate your home's aesthetics with a touch of style and trend, the price is worth it. Automated blinds are also recommended by the government as it the safest window treatment of all time. Unlike corded blinds, motorized blinds eliminate the chance of your pets or kids getting strangled.
To Wrap Up
Sun Blinds Inc offers a customized window treatment for all. Our expert engineers visit your place, measure according to your requirements, share experienced suggestions if requested, and process the installation with sheer care. You may visit our website or store or call us for guidance and quotation. If you're a trend lover or simply like elegance, neither wait any longer nor look any further! A gala event opened the Edmonton Indian Residential School on the cool night of October 23rd, 1924. Although students had been arriving at the Methodist-run institution for months, that didn’t stop a flashy ‘grand-opening’ celebration. Their building had “cost more to erect than any other in [the] entire system,” and the Church wanted everyone to know. The public were cordially invited to attend and “a great many Edmonton people” did.
Tours were conducted. The Alberta College band played. A commemorative tablet was unveiled. Dignitaries spoke. The school’s purpose was laid bare.
Charles Stewart, the former premier of Alberta serving as the Liberal government’s Minister of the Interior and Superintendent General of Indian Affairs, explained. The government was unsatisfied “with the case of the Indian people in the Dominion.” It was nothing less than the “white man’s duty” to help them. They needed educating to “be assimilated into the life of the country which necessitated a great change in the red man’s mode of living.”
William Morris Graham, Western Commissioner of Indian Affairs, agreed. “Unless we have schools of this kind, we will never be able to touch the problem of the Indian at all. The Indian that goes to school is better than one who doesn’t go to school.” “[It is hoped] that every Indian boy and girl would have the chance to attend one of these institutions.”
Reverend C.E. Manning, General Secretary of the Methodist Church’s Home Department, had more pointed comments. In his eyes, a life-debt was owed. It was the white man who “[opened] up Canada” and “brought values to the red man which would not have been obtained otherwise.” Through Edmonton, they would have “opportunities of education in the way of free board and teaching […] such as no white child received.” They should be thankful.
Historian John Milroy explains that this position was commonplace among settler-Canadians. To them, “Aboriginal people were… ‘sunk’ in ‘ignorance and superstitious blindness,’ a well of darkness from which they were in need of ‘emancipation.’” Stewart thought so. It was the moral responsibility of every white Canadian to help “elevate the Indian from his condition of savagery [and their] state of ignorance, superstition and helplessness,” he contended.
Continuing, Milroy argues that the residential school system’s primary foundation was to make an ‘Indian’ fit “for life in a ‘modern’ Canada.” The day’s belief held that if Anglo-Canadian attitudes could be instilled at a young age, these children could “then reach the state of civilized Canadians: one in which their ‘practical knowledge’ and labour would make them ‘useful members of society.’” Of course — as Celia Haig-Brown writes — this all came at the expense of “the habits and feelings of their ancestors, and the acquirements of the language, arts and customs”.
It’s a long read... but I promise it’s worth it.

Worst of McMansions: Canada Edition
Hello Friends! Today I’m going to do something different. As you all know, this past week has been very stressful for those of us living in the USA. Rather than write a document about mortgages and bonds, I’ve decided to do something a lot more light-hearted: ugly house pictures from all across Canada.
I’ve separated each of the houses within the 5 main locations into three categories:
The Uggo Award: Pretentious houses gone tacky. These are the epitome of “I’m rich but still cheap.”
The ‘y tho?’ Award: Nonsense houses - these homes are large and bizarre
The Big Mac® Award: The cheapest, saddest, and most unhealthy houses.
So without further ado:
Ottawa, ON
Ah yes, the capital city of Canada, where the world’s most handsome Prime Minister lives (swoon) and the city with the highest median family income. And pretty buildings, for the most part. The Parliament Building is totes gorgeous. But then there’s these:
The Uggo Award
A very American-looking McMansion. If it weren’t for the address, I would have looked at this house and guessed Bergen County, New Jersey.
The ‘y tho?’ Award
Those stupid windows literally had me in tears. Not even figuratively. Literally.
The Big Mac® Award:
Taco Bell pic for reference
Edmonton, AB
I had no idea such a wasteland of bad houses existed in this cruel world (outside of NJ and Southern MD/Northern VA).
The Uggo Award
“we need a 2 story foyer for natural light” (proceeds to cover it up with $20 blind)
The ‘y tho?’ Award:
You know it’s bad when the image quality is as good as your architecture.
This is the house equivalent of Sweet Joe and Hella Jeff. (aside - oh man, I haven’t though about that comic in years! The high school flashbacks!! Make it stop!!)
The Big Mac® Award:
MAKE ENERGY BILLS GREAT AGAIN
Bonus house: McMansion Hell x Streamline Moderne
Vancouver, BC
Admittedly, I moved Vancouver down on the list because I wanted to use the shock value of the last two cities to suck you in. The truth is, it’s hard to find ugly houses in Vancouver. They’re all so beautiful.
The Uggo Award
Shoulda gone with Fascist Plastic Prairie for the alliteration, but the damage is already done.
The ‘y tho?’ Award:
tfw you need an adult and you realize you ARE an adult
The Big Mac® Award:
I’m going to try to refrain from political jokes for the rest of the post because these days they’re just low-hanging fruit, but this was just too hard to pass up.
Montreal, QC
Ok, Montreal, y’all are so predictable I put this together:
Montreal High-End Home Starter Pack™
The Uggo Award
There is ACTUALLY snow outside. And they’re still going through with the great room/dining turret dichotomy. smdh
The ‘y tho?’ Award
This is like those sailor suits rich southern women make their 2-year-old boys wear.
The Big Mac® Award
I won’t make a joke about the poor French Canadians, don’t worry.
Calgary, AB
Calgary, the largest city in Alberta. I wish I were Canadian so I could make sly jokes about the people, but I have never met anyone from Calgary, so you are spared...this time.
The Uggo Award
Those silly garage windows don’t even add anything architecturally. In fact, they’re totally inconsistent with the other windows!
The ‘y tho?’ Award:
Don’t do meth, kids.
The Big Mac® Grand Prize Winner:
Literally the epitome of a McMansion. Somewhere (probably at the University of Notre Dame), a classicist weeps softly.
BONUS HOUSES:
Waterloo, ON
Saskatoon, SK
Well, that does it for this round of Canadian McMansions! Be sure to stick around for Thursday’s McMansion in Arkansas! Just a note: there will be no post next Sunday, as I will be in Boston. (But after that, it’s Straya time!)
If you like this post, and want to see more like it (plus get sweet access to things like stickers and behind the scenes stuff), consider supporting me on Patreon! Not into recurring donations? Check out the McMansion Hell Store - 30% goes to charity.

The Year of Gord
If Gord Downie ran for prime minister, we know who our next leader would be. Gord was the face of this country,Oh you;re from Canada, eh? So you must listen to The Tragically Hip eh? As a matter of fact I do listen to them. The greatest moment in Canadian history other than Sidney Crosby scoring the golden goal was The Tragically Hips last concert in Kingston, Ontario where they originated. On August 20th, 2016, Gord Downie and his Tragically Hip took the stage for their final goodbye. Gord Downie was diagnosed with a terminal brain tumour, Glioblastoma, which attacked his brain at an alarming rate. After the rollercoaster of emotions between fathoming Gords diagnosis, and the concert; Gords health started slowly getting away from him. On October 17th, 2017, Gord Downie passed away at the age of 53 surrounded by his immediate family and friends. The bands twitter page released a statement regarding his death, notifying fans and audience viewers as one:
Last night Gord quietly passed away with his beloved children and family close by. Gord knew this day was coming-his response was to spend this precious time he always had-making music, making memories and expressing deep gratitude to his family and friends for a life well lived, often sealing it with a kiss on the lips (France, 2017).
The death of Gord Downie was announced via social media, I was an audience member trying to fathom what his family was going through. It was almost as there was an Effects paradigm in the works that even though one did not care about the death of a Canadian hero; they were on social media as audience members being forced to view it. I personally love the fact that the band announced the death via twitter, hitting a worldwide audience. They knew that this would be the best way to reach their fan base. We speak of the Uses and Gratifications theory as it seeks out how people actively use specific media to satisfy specific needs (Sullivan, 2013). I know I wasn’t the only one using media to satisfy my needs that day, as my hero was laid to rest. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also reached out using his social media, expressing his gratitude to his 3.7 million followers: “There will never be another one like you, Gord. Rest in peace my friend “(Trudeau, 2017). As a result of this post, Trudeau used twitter to satisfy his need and show the country that he lost a great friend. Toronto mayor John Tory took to the media, through Instagram posting a photo of the Toronto sign lit in red and white with the words “The Toronto sign has been lit in red and white today to honour Gord Downie. He was an inspiration to us all. His music is an essential part of the soundtrack of Canada. He will be missed” (Tory, 2017). Mayor John Tory reached out to his 50 thousand followers in a creative way posting a picture in memory of Gord. There is no right or wrong way to do so; it is all about the motivation for each individual using their physiological drives to satisfy ones internal needs. As a lifelong fan, I needed to reach out through the main three platforms I use to notify others about the death of Gord. As I reached out, the feedback I received was very satisfying to me as it was nothing but positive. I found a way to turn a bad situation into good, with friends commenting about the great moments they remember of Gord. This was the Year of Gord.
No more Cards in the house
Media ratings are a huge component to accessing the financials they need to continue a stable network. How does one get these ratings? These ratings will all be made from finding and establishing a target market, “for media companies and consumer product manufacturers, conducting research on consumers has been integrated into their organizational structures. Almost every modern corporation selling products or services directly to consumer preferences, desires, and exposure to advertising messages” (Sullivan, 2013). If we were to watch an episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians, this would be targeted at women aging from 15-45 years old. These advertisements that would be on the same channel would be selling make-up that the Kardashians wear, or clothes that they would wear. Media companies pay big money to have advertisements that fit the consumers needs which falls into Dallas Smythes blind spot debate, at the same time that the television program is being sold to the audience, that attention of the audience is being sold to advertisers (Sullivan, 2013) .While this is going on, the consumers are just trying to enjoy their favourite show. Viewers essentially became a product that media corporations could sell to advertisers, becoming the audience commodity. If we were watching the show House of Cards, with star Kevin Spacey, we would be targeting men and women preferably of the business background to watch it. Advertisers would target this audience by selling items that would help a business man look more successful. Netflix currently holds the rights to all five seasons of House of Cards. The show was rated a 4.5 out of 5 on the Netflix app and squandered the $100 million dollar investment that it made. Up until recently, the show was being watched by millions of Netflix users and the character favourite, Francis Underwood played by Kevin Spacey, allegedly spacey picked him up and sexually assaulted actor Anthony Rapp at a 1986 party when Rapp was 14 years old (Park, 2017). As Spacey is the face of House of Cards, Netflix immediately took action and suspended the show, removing all five seasons and placing a hold on the making of the sixth season. As one can understand, this will hurt the media ratings for now and the future of the television series. To make the matters worse, Spacey came out to say “I do not remember any such encounter, and now I choose to live as a gay man” (Hurley, 2017). Not only do these allegations hurt and scare the audience members of House of Cards but usually queer people will tell you one thing about coming out: There is no bad time to do it. Whenever and however a person chooses to disclose their sexuality is up to them- but in the wake of these allegations- this only furthers harmful stereotypes about queer people” (Brabaw, 2017). The media ratings for the show have dropped significantly, and Media capital rights who represent the show noted that this is both a financial loss and an audience loss as the show was set to film its sixth season.
Another out coming of one of Netflix superstars is Harvey Weinstein. The founder of the Weinstein company who was Notorious for his creativity, targeting the proper market resulting in high ratings and billions of dollars to his name, “it is perhaps most obvious that the core business of profit driven mass media is to produce communication products such as television programs, radio shows, and motions pictures, and market those products to consumers” (Sullivan, 2013). Weinstein was known for producing blockbuster films, and turning audience heads while turning a major profit. Harvey Weinstein has allegations against him that range from rape to sexual harassment (Entertainment and Arts, 2017), resulting in his media ratings surging in a downward spiral. What I have learned through these weeks is media ratings are the biggest factor, if the consumer to consumer approach was negative then this falls into the word of mouth category. Target markets are to place things into perspective, which gives the advertisers an idea of what the viewership is.
Capital of Kindness
It has been quite a year for the National Hockey League so far. The inaugural year for the Vegas Golden Knights who are off to a tremendous start. The welcoming back of goalie Semyon Varlamov who was facing charges for the assault on his girlfriend. Wait, what was that? The ex-Washington Capitals goaltender was facing charges for the second degree kidnapping and third degree assault, but there has been no coverage on it yet this year? Let us look at something with a little more coverage, “Capitals Ovechkin buys winter clothes for homeless man in Edmonton” (Elliott, 2017). Current power forward and the best Russian born player to ever play the game of hockey was seen in downtown Edmonton on a cold day, buying clothes for a homeless man to keep him warm. As we know the National Hockey League is notorious for getting players out of bad situations, and drawing light upon good situations. The bad situation, “Jury backs Varlamov in civil case- awards goalie 126k is not what people want to see. If we were to use the encoding scheme for this scenario, we would say that they have no proof that Varlamov physically abused his girlfriend. Decoding this message, I would say that since Varlamov is making millions of dollars per year he is getting off free and clear while taking an extra 126k for personal damages. Unfortunately there is no coverage of this media, because it is negative media and the National Hockey League has to maintain a reputation that attracts loyal sports fans. When Alex Ovechkin bought these clothes, the journalist may see it as he is doing this very nice gesture from the bottom of his heart. Others may see it as Ovechkin makes $12 million USD per year and he should be buying these homeless people clothes, “The encoding process transforms ideas and experiences into meaningful discourse within existing social, economic, and cultural contexts. Audiences then interpret these messages within their own contexts” (Sullivan, 2013). You cannot please everyone, the way audiences view certain messages; there will always be a problem with the way the message is supposed to be said, to how the message is interpreted.
What I can take away from the past few weeks is that media is a business, that is continuously changing. The market is always challenged with new media and always changing the way they target the audience. The media sources have to ensure what they are supporting does not offend anyone or there will be a discharge due to negative media ratings. Acquiring the perfect target market is a challenge, but keeping the media ratings high is a work of art.

When it comes to enhancing the look and functionality of your home, choosing the right window treatments can make all the difference. Whether you're aiming to control natural light, boost energy efficiency, or add a stylish touch to your interior, Edmonton homeowners have access to a wide variety of high-quality options. Let's explore some of the top choices available, including dual roller shades, faux wood blinds, window shades, and vinyl & polysatin shutters.
Dual Roller Shades in Edmonton Canada: Versatility and Style Combined
For homeowners in Edmonton, dual roller shades offer a perfect blend of style and practicality. These innovative shades feature two layers of fabric—one sheer and one opaque—allowing you to switch between filtering natural light and achieving full privacy with ease. During the day, you can enjoy the soft glow of sunlight through the sheer fabric while maintaining privacy. At night, the blackout shade ensures a peaceful, private atmosphere by completely blocking out outside light.
Dual roller shades come in a range of colors, textures, and materials, allowing you to customize them to suit your interior design. Their sleek, minimalist look makes them a great addition to modern homes, while their functionality is ideal for bedrooms, living rooms, and home offices. Whether you're looking to improve light control or enhance your home’s aesthetic, dual roller shades are a fantastic option.
Faux Wood Blinds in Edmonton Canada: The Perfect Balance of Beauty and Durability
If you love the warm, natural appearance of real wood but want a more durable and cost-effective option, faux wood blinds are the way to go. These blinds are a popular choice in Edmonton because they replicate the beauty of traditional wood while offering resistance to moisture, warping, and fading.
Made from high-quality materials like PVC or composite wood, faux wood blinds are perfect for high-humidity areas like kitchens and bathrooms. They are also easy to clean and maintain, making them a practical option for busy households. With a variety of finishes and wood grain patterns available, faux wood blinds can easily complement any home décor, from rustic to contemporary.
Window Shades in Edmonton Canada: A Timeless Solution for Every Room
Window shades are a versatile and timeless option for homes in Edmonton. From roller shades to Roman shades, these window coverings offer excellent light control, privacy, and energy efficiency. Whether you prefer a soft, fabric look or a sleek, modern design, there are window shades to fit every style and need.
Roller shades are especially popular due to their clean lines and minimalistic appearance. They can be customized with a wide array of fabrics, ranging from light-filtering to room-darkening, depending on your needs. For a more luxurious feel, Roman shades offer elegance with their soft folds of fabric, adding texture and warmth to any room.
Vinyl & Polysatin Shutters in Edmonton: Durability and Sophistication
For a truly sophisticated and durable window treatment, vinyl and polysatin shutters are a top choice in Edmonton. These shutters are known for their long-lasting materials, which are resistant to moisture, UV rays, and extreme temperatures. Whether you're looking to install them in a living room, bathroom, or bedroom, vinyl and polysatin shutters provide timeless elegance with minimal maintenance.
These shutters offer excellent insulation, helping to reduce energy costs by keeping your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. In addition to their energy-efficient properties, vinyl and polysatin shutters provide superior light control and privacy, making them a versatile choice for any room.
