Drawing back to look up at him, her trembling hands gripped his face, her brown eyes wide with a feeling he couldn't immediately place, and it took Shanks a second to recognise the look in them, before it hit him, watching as they moved over his face, as though seeing him anew, and a rough breath left him as he realised that what he was seeing was recognition.
“I remember,” Makino breathed, holding his face, and the memory seized him without kindness, but unlike his vision, the trembling grin that broke across her face held none of the things he’d feared―that she would look at him and see how much he’d changed, and that it wouldn’t be the captain she’d loved. Because she saw―all his changes, and all the things he’d done, measured now against the man she’d known―but it wasn’t disgust that had fresh tears spilling over her cheeks but joy, as Makino sobbed, “I remember.”
Then, her voice softened to a shiver as she cupped his face, “I remember you,” she murmured, and with such aching familiarity, if he had lost himself, she found him now as she breathed, “Shanks.”
Shanks and Makino, in "Ask me again", chapter 27 of @missmungoe absolute tour-de-force Mnemosyne, and dare I say, one of the scenes of all time.

Okay, I've been discussing ideas about a PJO Psych crossover and it is now time to share my findings
Okay, so once upon a time Henry Spencer met a woman who when posing as a mortal went by the name Madeleine but she was actually a goddess, they had a kid, she was a minor goddess, so she was able to stay for a while, but eventually she left.
Yes, of COURSE Shawn thinks it's his Dad's fault
The goddess was Mnemosyne, the Greek goddess of MEMORY and the mother of the muses (works perfectly, right??!??!?!)
And Gus is his Satyr protector!!!
Henry does all the same training with Shawn to be a cop and such
Shawn gets his eidetic memory from his mother, the goddess of memory
I've also decided he gets taskmaster powers (can do anything he sees from memory) because that fucks hard
Shawn gets the record of fastest kid to get claimed as his mother officially claims him before he even leaves for camp
Here's her symbol by the way!
Tumblr media
Anyway, when Shawn gets to camp, he's a total little shit
At first, the other campers think he's just not being claimed, depending on how you work the timeline here? Percy is pissed
Then Gus and Shawn explain that he actually got claimed before he even showed up (Percy vows to personally thank his godly parent for being an actually decent person)
So, they ask who it is, and Shawn WILL NOT TELL THEM
Why? Because it's funner that way!
They have an ongoing tally and betting pool of who his godly parent is, no one guesses it
He also keeps sneaking Mr D alcohol because it's funny and no one but Dionysus is happy about that
Gus is still his best friend that he drags into things, obv, they probably end up soul bound just like percy and grover
Juliet is a child of Athena
Lassie is a child of Ares and if your going by the show there's a super funny joke about how he looks exactly like Hephaestus but is the son of the guy he hates most, haha
Shawn KILLS at capture the flag
No one believes him when he says he doesn't have charm speak
Instead of becoming a SB Psychic, he ends up being this crime solving traveling cryptid (he's gotta keep moving bc monsters) (dont worry, he still visits camp pretty often and likes to drop by Santa Barbara to solve crimes and piss off his dad)
There was also a lengthy convo about each gods opinion of him of any of you wanna hear that
Shawn is the muse of doing weird shit
Also art lover shawn 🔛🔝, he's got plenty of muse talent, yall
Instead of pretending to be a psychic, he's pretending to NOT be muse adjacent
And now, a list of Gods people keep guessing for Shawn
Dionysus, Hermes, Athena, Aphrodite, Apollo, Hecate
And finally, gay people real???
As you can see, we mostly talked about Shawn lol

I just realized Apollo and Hyacinthus are also second cousins wtf...
Basically:
Gaia → Phoebe → Leto → Apollo
Gaia → Mnemosyne → Clio → Hyacinthus

im a bit confused on if the mousai were worshipped? if so, do u have any resources?
They definitely were! Their worship typically accompanied many of the major Olympians and minor Olympians like the Kharites. There are three elder Mousai (Muses) including Mnemosyne (Memory) who is the mother of the nine Mousai most popular, and after them are the Mousai who are children of Apollon. They are led by Apollon and Artemis, give their assistance, and follow Aphrodite, Athene, Dionysos, (usually not listed: Hephaistos), and Hermes, and they are companions of the Kharites. You can learn about the individual Muses names here. Further basic introduction to their worship can also be found here.
Sources to read up on their worship and about them:
Sanctuary of the Muses at Thespiai
Cults of Female Deities at Dion by Semeli Pingiatoglou
Music and the Muses: The Culture of Mousike in the Classical Athenian City
Apollo and the Muses, or prophecy in Greek verse by H. W. Parke
The Mousai on Perseus
The Nine Muses of Greek Mythology: Their Place and Purpose in Our Lives Today by Shelley S. Glickstein (Unfortunately there is nothing online and you'd have to get it at a library or buy it maybe)

for you, what to you think is the birth order for the 12 Titans? Love to have you back and your reasonings are fun :)
thank you nonnie 🧡 there’s nothing I love more than making lore out of crumbs we have, so here’s my interpretation!
In Hesiod’s Theogony, we get this birth order: "She [Gaia, Earth] lay with Ouranos (Uranus, Sky) and bare deep-swirling
1. Okeanos (Oceanus), 2. Koios (Coeus) 3. Krios (Crius) and 4. Hyperion and 5. Iapetos (Iapetus), 6. Theia and 7. Rhea, 8. Themis and 9. Mnemosyne and gold-crowned 10. Phoibe (Phoebe) and lovely 11. Tethys. After them was born 12. Kronos (Cronus)."
EDIT: I missed two more accounts, one from the Pseudo-Apollodorus' Bibliotheca (who listed Dione as a Titaness):
"Ouranos (Uranus, Sky) . . . fathered other sons on Ge (Gaea, Earth), namely the Titanes (Titans) :
1. Okeanos (Oceanus), 2. Koios (Coeus), 3. Hyperion, 4. Krios (Crius), 5. Iapetos, and 6. Kronos (Cronus) the youngest; also daughters called Titanides (Titanesses) : 1. Tethys, 2. Rhea, 3. Themis, 4. Mnemosyne, 5. Phoibe (Phoebe), Dione, and Theia."
and another from the Diodorus Siculus' Library of History (which sites Cronus as the oldest and forgets Theia)
The males were 1. Kronos (Cronus), 2. Hyperion, 3. Koios (Coeus), 4. Iapetos, 5. Krios (Crius) and 6. Okeanos (Oceanus) , and their sisters were 7. Rhea 8. Themis, 9. Mnemosyne, 10. Phoibe (Phoebe) and 11. Tethys. Each one of them was the discover of things of benefit to mankind, and because of the benefaction they conferred upon all men they were accorded honors and everlasting fame."
Of the three accounts mentioned I've noticed some similarities:
All three accounts have the pattern Rhea-Themis-Mnemosyne-Phoebe consistently
Two accounts have Oceanus as the oldest child and one as the youngest brother
Two accounts have Tethys as the youngest daughter and one as the oldest daughter
Iapetus is the closest in age to Cronus in two accounts and the second closest in the other
Koios is often the second or third son
Now, just because I've noticed these doesn't necessarily mean I will follow these "rules" in making my own birth order, especially considering many narrative issues regarding Styx/Pallas and Atlas/Pleione being second-generation Titans with fully grown children during the war (as well as well, who I think would fit more into the role of older/younger).
So, here is my own version (sprinkled in with headcanon):
BIRTH ORDER OF THE TWELVE OTHYRIANS:
1-2. Oceanus and Tethys (eldest son and daughter) - So Oceanus is described by Hera as where “all gods have risen” in the Iliad, and in the same breath describes Tethys as “our mother” and in another account by Homer- “Okeanos (Oceanus) the origin of the gods, and Tethys their mother.” They are also identified with Ophion and Eurynome, the supposed first King and Queen of the Heavens before Cronus and Rhea had them overthrown. Because of that, and because Tethys is often described as a loving mother/nurse, I like to think of O&T as a unit (Oceanus still as the older one but Tethys following shortly after) who once took care of their younger siblings especially when Gaia and Uranus were constantly fighting and fell in love in the process, vowing to have many kids of their own when they got married. Oceanus abstaining from the castration can be because of many reasons, but I believe it had to do with his kind nature, being a father and not wanting to set a bad example towards them (thus disappointing Gaia and prompting Cronus to take action)
3. Crius (second brother)- EDIT: making Crius the second oldest as one of his sons, Pallas, later marries Styx, Oceanus, and Tethys' oldest daughter, and unless they were older woman/younger man I prefer that they were closer in age (and I guess narratively it would Make Sense for Oceanus' oldest to be betrothed to the child of the sibling who came after him). As for loyalty, his sons Pallas and Perses are vaguely dutiful to the Titans during the war.
4. Iapetus (third brother) - As much as I like Cronus and Iapetus being closest in age for brothers, Iapetus being older makes more sense to me. Atlas is his eldest son (with a wife and children) and Cronus’ right hand, rather than Iapetus himself, so I believe that Iapetus thinks Atlas would do a much better, youthful job at it. Cronus could see Iapetus as everything Oceanus should’ve been, the reliable older brother (even if his traitorous other nephew Prometheus joined the opposite side)
5. Hyperion (fourth brother) - no particular reason for this one besides being close to Theia’s age and his children being close to Hestia-Zeus' age.
6-7. Theia & Rhea (second and third sister) - TWINS TIME BABYYY. This is all purely headcanon be warned. As I’ve mentioned before, in my ficverse Theia and Rhea were born as twins destined to have favorable children. Theia eventually becomes close with Hyperion, marrying him and leaving Rhea jealous but happy to see little Eos, Helios, and Selene grow up. Rhea begins sticking closer to Themis, Phoebe, and Cronus after Theia’s wedding. Theia and Rhea’s relationship is still close as they once joked about their firstborns being fire starters (Helios and Hestia) in the short time frame before Cronus devoured Hestia.
8. Themis (fourth sister) - besides the constant of Themis being younger than Rhea, my main reasoning with this is simply that Zeus marrying his aunt who is younger than his mom is more palatable than marrying an aunt older than her (then again both Titanesses are older than his father but Zeus isn’t close to his dad anyways). Narratively her getting the oracle makes much sense too as her older sisters have their roles (Tethys is the mother of the ocean deities, and Theia and Rhea are destined to have favorable kids), it would make sense for Gaia to give her the Oracle and become her prophetic successor (before giving it to her younger sister Phoebe as she establishes herself as the goddess of divine law)
9. Phoebe (fifth daughter) - being the younger to Themis, she gets the Oracle of Delphi from her and is the third goddess to hold it before giving it to her grandson Apollo (Aeschylus, Eumenides 1 ff). Besides that, she’s renowned thanks to her grandchildren. I still want her to be older than Mnemosyne as I imagine her kind of mature while Mnemosyne more youthful.
9. Mnemoysne (Melete, Aiode, Thelixonoe, Arche, Mneme) (sixth-tenth daughter) - OKAY so I had this idea when reading about the Elder Muses, who were said to be daughters of Ge/Gaia according to Mimnermus. There are two accounts, one with four muses (Thelixonoe, Aode, Arche, and Melete) and one with three (Melete, Aiode, and Mneme). Mneme is said most likely to be Mnemosyne as her name means “Memory” but honestly, what if they were all Mnemosyne? What if Mnemosyne was like Garnet in Steven Universe, a combination of close Muse sisters to make up an entire deity? Seems cooler than just forgetting about these Muses. Making Mnemosyne the younger makes sense too since Muses are said to be youthful/have the least amount of responsibility.
10. Dione (eleventh daughter) - yeah actually why not make Dione a Titaness too? Most have her as a daughter of Oceanus and Tethys but there are accounts of her being the child of Gaia and Uranus, also I like the little headcanon of him and Phorcys being Titans as Plato wanted. (Albeit in most canon Phorcys is cited as a son of Gaia and Pontos which is. close enough!)
11-12. Coeus and Cronus (fifth and sixth brother) - I still wanted Coeus and Cronus to be twins/close the age gap, mainly because alliterative names are cool and should be highlighted. Coeus is allegedly the Titan of Intellect, so To Me as an older brother who gives advice and not really proactively fights like their older brothers (also, I like to think Asteria and Hestia are within the same age group), and Cronus’ birth order is fixed as the youngest.
EDIT: Aside from their main family tree, they also have the three Cyclopes and three Hecatoncheires, the Pontus-Gaia family tree of Eurybia (Crius' wife), Thaumas (Iris and Arke's father), Ceto (The Gorgon's mother), Nereus (father of the Nereids), Aegaeon (ally to the Titans), Phorcys (Ceto's mate) and the four Telchines who invented metalwork and made Cronus' infamous sickle.

The symbolism of Mnemosyne
🧸🧠🧸🧠🧸🧠🧸🧠🧸🧠🧸🧠🧸🧠🧸🧠
A titan deity of memory, the arbiter of nostalgia and remembering, speaker of many a language, and a mother of confusion, as well as artistic expression, Mnemosyne is the definition of a bittersweet goddess, she can bring great joy, but also painful suffering. Let’s take a look at her repertoire of symbolism, so that maybe if she speaks to us in the fog of our memory, we might recognize her better.
———————————————————————
• Colors 🌈
- Black, white, and purple: are colors that are all associated with memory, as many see the past in black and white, and knowledge is often associated with the color purple.
• Flowers and plants 🌸
- Periwinkle: a purple flower that is often associated with innocence lost by maturity, as well as the memory of the past, periwinkle is a great flower to represent lady Mnemosyne.
- Gingko: as for plants, ginkgos are associated with remembrance and wisdom, and are known for their ancient longevity, with some trees having been dated by their rings to living for over 1,000 years!
• Animals 🐴
- Parrots: known for their colorful feathers, long lasting and potent memories, and uncanny ability to mimic the human tongue and language, parrots encompass three major themes of Mnemosyne’s domain: memory, color, and speech.
- Elephants: perhaps the most obvious choice here, the elephant has long been a symbol of memory, knowledge, and sensitivity. They have the longest known memory cycle of any known animal on earth.
- Starlings: another bird with an uncanny ability to nearly perfectly adapt to and learn human speech, starlings are also known for their iridescent feathers, reminiscent of mnemosyne’s association with artistic colors.
• Food 🍗
- Drinking water. In Hellenic mythology, it is said that those that participated in the rituals at the oracle of trophonios drank spring water to help them to remember what they had seen while under the oracles influence.
- nuts. Nuts are one of the superfoods that are believed to improve cognitive function, especially in the area of our ability to strengthen and improve our memory.
- nostalgic foods. Not really a specific food, but eating a food item that is nostalgic to you, beckoning back to a past memory that you are fond of, is a good association for a food to Mnemosyne.
• Crystals and gems 💎
- Amethyst. A stone that is believed to restore one’s memory, and repair their cognitive function, amethyst was once believed to be able to cure inebriation by the ancient Greeks, and in fact, it’s name comes from the Greek word “amethustos” meaning “not drunken”
- Hematite. Some believe that hematite can help clear your congested psyche and guide you through your memory to help uncover and remember specific moments throughout your life!
- Kunzite. Kunzite is said to be a stone that is used for communication and language, both through divinity, and through everyday human communication.
• Planets 🪐
- Uranus. As a titan goddess, mother Mnemosyne is a daughter of Uranus, who is signified by the planet in our solar system. Uranus is often associated with memory and knowledge, so it’s the most sensible fit for a celestial association with Mnemosyne.
• Astrology ☄️
- Scorpio. A Scorpio forgets nothing it is said, for better or for worse, and although they aren’t necessarily the greatest communicators, just about everything else about Mnemosyne seems to fit the bill for a Scorpio!
• Other symbols 🧠
- the brain. The brain is the part of us that Mnemosyne exists entirely within, she really is our brain in a sense, so this is a symbol often associated with a goddess of memory and communication.
- Photographs. A snippet of a moment in time saved from our memory, and a great conversation piece in anyone’s home or camera role, photographs are a no brainer for something that directly channels mnemonic emotions, either that’s nostalgia, regret, or fulfillment.
———————————————————————
Well there you have it, now that you have become acquainted with some of lady Mnemosynes signs and symbols, perhaps you will find her hand on your shoulder the next time you grow emotional from nostalgia, pour over a memory forgotten, or learn a new word you can’t wait to speak with! 🧠
If you like my posts, and wish to learn more about the deities and stories of Hellen, consider giving my blog a follow! I post daily about hellenismos, and various other fascinating things. Blessed be your day 💙🏛️💙

Idea where there's an artifact that shows a random memory you have when you touch it, probably not random but it feels kind of random even though it never chooses bland moments like eating cereal or something, and ezekiel touches it in front of the others
Imagine this: after ezekiel escapes mi6, he breaks into the British museum and steals back something they made him steal for him as a way to try to make himself feel better, he steals some priceless ancient vase that the British had no reason having. And when he got away, he ended up breaking it, throwing it at the floor as hard as he could.
He was a kid holding a reminder of something that had deeply hurt him, let's say this art piece was the first thing they ever made him steal, it felt nice to steal it back and destroy it, therapeutic even, he was just a kid, he didn't care about the artistic value, he just wanted to feel better and it helped for a second.
Of course, this is the memory it shows everyone.
