worth bringing up as sort of a corollary to my severance thoughts is that severance does an excellent job of showing that different forms of power & control (cult/corporation/family/government) tend to bleed and overlap and propagate in similar forms. in that particular vein, speaking as a cult survivor, it's worth saying specifically that it doesn't do much good to exceptionalize cults as a rare oddity of how societal power can sometimes take shape. lumon, though fictional, is a really good example of how those mechanisms of control exist in many forms throughout society and should be broken down and scrutinized when they do appear.

About the Single Pea- after watching the commercial video, I think this section on the cookbook page relates to the video itself, especially the ending:

When Eddie is handed his pea on a plate, he's surrendered his role as mailman to the other neighbors for the day. He's at Wally's homewarming party, but he's the only one without something to do. And when he consequently dissociates and gets a fourth-wall break, he's the only one seeing beyond the curtain of the puppet world. This is a set, with felt and fabric and props. Drawn out with pencils and pens. His world is real, but it's also just a story.

Eddie's being ignored prior to Homewarming was not a freak accident- whoever orchestrated everyone to forget him (Home, possibly?) was trying to make him feel like nobody needed him so they could erase him from the neighborhood and pull him into our reality.

Why would this happen? What could be so egregious with Eddie's character that his existence would be declared unnecessary?

Well, who's always seen alongside Frank, portrayed as his best friend, their shared love for nature playing off each other like a harmony that may be just friendship but may be something even deeper?

How are mailmen and entemologists related, actually? How could they ever be as compatible as flora and fauna? They simply clash too much, it's not natural, it's not right.

(though Julie is often too exuberant for the more mellow Frank, and his seriousness and logic and Eddie's earnestness and love of literature blend together perfectly; also Frank is nonbinary and Julie is genderfluid and they're gay and pan respectfully so no combination of the three is really "straight"; people aren't confined to narrow strands of fate but puppets are subject to their masters)

And yet, someone pulled Eddie back to his side, called him by his first name when they'd only been on last name terms before.

Actually you know how Bill always wanted to see and show the rest of the elucidians the stars and wanted to become one, does that explain why he has a liking for Mabel cause her zodiac symbol is a shooting star?

I think he likes Mabel because she's a little chaos agent who only wants to party and makes hyper-caffeinated beverages with tiny dinosaurs in them and eats hallucinogenic candy and has dreams that look like a mix between Lisa Frank and Hieronymus Bosch and thinks a fantasy land where you always get everything you want forever is better than reality could ever be and has a small selfish streak (that Bill thinks is way WAY bigger than it really is) and she loves bright colors and happy music and glitter and puppets and fun at any cost, no matter what, til the end of the world.

So the shooting star symbol isn't the reason he likes her.

But I'll bet he takes the shooting star as proof that he's RIGHT about how similar they are.

(Unfortunately, he probably thinks the same thing about Gideon's star symbol. But Gideon's not bestie material, he's "colleague who will backstab me unless I backstab him first" material.)

headcanons of the 7’s music taste:

-jason tries to tone it down but he REALLY likes taylor swift, but also movie soundtracks

-annabeth listens to either chill lofi for studying, dramatic classical music, or angry girl pop rock. she loves olivia rodrigo

-piper is a paramore girly, but any kind of indie girly pop/rock

-frank doesn’t really listen to much music, he’s kind of all over the places with his tastes. but he’ll listen to a few songs here and there, whatever’s on and has a catchy tune

-hazel doesn’t know much modern music but she ends up liking a few songs by “that taylor girl” and some country music. she really likes classic jazz because it reminds her of new orleans

-leo is super into feel-good diva pop that he can blast and sing along to until everyone is sick of it, like dua lipa, p!nk, mariah carey, rihanna, etc

-percy is very 2000s indie centric, but he also likes classic rock, whatever reminds him of what his mom would put on
