All The Way
Last September Mitzi and I took off on a two-month, round-the-world sojourn. Twelve cities, eight countries, old friends, new sights and sounds, ups and downs. But we made it, all the way. Here’s our story, in video. All The Way

‘Soul Good’ by The Soul Bros is a feel good jazz groove
The Soul Bros- Soul Good ‘Soul Good’ by The Soul Bros is a feel good jazz groove that has multifaceted instrumentals. The music flows well swinging back to some nice solos with a tight gate. It’s an enjoyable piece of music with lots of good energy.
“Soul Good” reflect my love of instrumental R&B/soul music. When I finally visited the STax,Volt Museum in Memphis Tennessee a few years back, it felt I was entering a church.
Release date: Dec. 2, 2022 Music Genre:  R&B/soul jazz Vibe:  Energetic, danceable, throwback Located in:  San Francisco CA USA Sounds like:  Bar-Kays, James Brown, Average White Band, Maceo Parker, Kool & the Gang

I Never Knew
Jazz, progressive rock or just another track with flute and English horn? And by the way, what is it you never knew? The Soul Bros take an ever-so-slight turn from their earlier discography and veer into the mystical, thanks to spoken word artist Chris Love. It seems when we set out to create something new, we never really know what will result. But we do know what we like, and we hope you do,…

Alcohol Of Fame
The first time I met RW Smith I looked up. Way up. He’s a tall fellow, with a rich baritone voice to match. Played him the demo for “Alcohol Of Fame,” and I thought I saw his nose crinkle a little. “What the hell kind of novelty song is this?” Or some such. But we talked about it and soon realized the lyric is a sad chronicle of a wasted life, of countless years spent waiting for enlightenment…

One of Those Days
One of Those Days
Troy Johnson hails from Katy, Texas and if you listen closely you can still hear the dusty roar of Interstate 10 in his voice. Nowadays he lives in Nashville where he leads his hot new group, The Nashvillains, and is also reputed to be the busiest session singer in town. All of which is why we’re so pleased to present Troy Johnson with this record, his seventh release for hiTrecords, “One of…

When Your Woman Leaves
When Your Woman Leaves
The end of a relationship is always confusing. What’s up, what’s down, what’s next? So it is with “When Your Woman Leaves.” As it happens, I’ve been happily married for almost 30 years, but as a human and more to the point, a storyteller, I know the devastation and loneliness of love gone wrong. My thanks to Frank Grant for getting this lyric started, and for his unending support. Kudos as well…

Lucky Life
New Music Monthly I was sitting in Steve Shapiro’s studio mixing a commercial I’d directed for a remittance company, when a call came through. It was a voice I didn’t recognize and I told her I’d return later. The phone rang again and this time it was Dr. Brant, telling me we had serious matters to discuss. I knew what he was referring to; a recent biopsy had indicated prostate cancer. My life…

Robert Cassotto
Or as you might know him, Bobby Darin. An early-on favorite of mine, starting with “Splish Splash.” But then there was “Dream Lover, “Mack the Knife,” and of course, “Beyond the Sea,” one of the better pop songs of all time, in my view. But hey, “Queen of the Hop” is right up there, too, which is why I decided to cut it for my late Aunt Jean Pagnard. Click here for a quick video preview: Queen of…

A Valentine for Jean
A Valentine for Jean
She was my father’s sister and we loved her. Aunt Jean Pagnard was the essence of beauty and grace. She lived to be 101, and toward the end of her long life, it was difficult to figure out what she might want for her birthday. We finally decided to produce a song for each of her last three. We think she enjoyed them, and we hope you will, too. Here’s a link to a video snippet of the first track:…

Slow Ride
New Music Monthly Did a little touring in the day; not much but probably just enough. Sometimes I still see myself on a bus, heading for the next town, and the town after that. Then I remember the road food, and perhaps worst of all, the loneliness, day after day. I wrote “Slow Ride” about those days, and asked my bud Troy Johnson to sing it. Troy nails this track, as he always seems to. Click the…

Everybody On One
Everybody knows Bootsy Collins is a helluva bass player but one night, it wasn’t working for his employer, the great James Brown. “Just gimme the damn one, then play all that other shit.” Good advice. As perhaps is obvious from our name, The Soul Bros tend to draw inspiration from Mr. Brown; who are we to dispute the Godfather’s nugget of knowledge. And so, here’s our newest, appropriately-titled…

Let’s Fall In Love
Let’s Fall In Love
New Music Monthly Renewal, a fresh start and all that whoop-de-doo. It’s a new year, and we’ve decided the best way to commemorate that is with an anthem about – well, love lost and love regained, and, who knows, maybe lost again. Troy Johnson tells the tale of walking into a bar and seeing Her sitting there. Who hasn’t experienced that, at least in one’s imagination? But we stay in the game.…

Playin’ the Horse Sausalito Seahorse, to be exact. The Jazz Beaus were there in August, and we’re finally getting back to the historic restaurant on Sausalito’s beautiful waterfront.
