Harry Potter reacts much differently to the Dementor attack on his cousin and it causes a cascade of changes in the lives of everyone he knows. He runs away to France to escape the English Ministry's bias and gets a solicitor (lawyer) to deal with his legal issues. Part one of a book 5 re-write that can be read stand-alone.
Featuring: Snape's POV. People making decisions for Harry without talking to him about it first. The Horcrux in his head influencing Harry's mind. Professional psychologists/mind healers doing good work. Snape using cannibus.
He would not go back to Privet Drive without bringing the law. He’d lose his temper and end up in Azkaban. Even with aurors at his back, he was likely to hex dear old Tuney into next week if he had to interact with her again. The fines would be worth it.

Based off one of your podcast episodes where you think Dumbledore killed Flamel, do you think Dumbledore would kill any wizard who found out different methods to being immortal?
Anon's referring to an @rankheresy episode by me and @therealvinelle (specifically this one)
TL;DL: @therealvinelle and I concluded that Dumbledore had killed Flamel before the events of Philosopher's Stone.
The thing is, that wasn't why we theorized Dumbledore killed him.
Dumbledore and Mortality
First, a bit about Dumbledore and death.
Dumbledore has some major hangups on death. To be fair, we all do, but Albus especially seems to in part because he seems to have obsessed over it in his youth as well as at his canonical age.
We know he chased after immortality as a young man and this concept of Master of Death. We know that upon gaining the cloak from the Potters, as well as the ring, he did get weird about it. Mostly, though, it's how he talks about death.
Dumbledore's often reiterating that death is a natural occurrance, which yes it is, but he romanticizes it. Death is the next great adventure, death is like going to sleep after a long hard day's work, it's a rest, a new path, and something we should look forward to when our time comes. And true, he's saying this to a child and of course sugar-coating things, and he's trying to explain why Tom's obsession with death and his horcruxes are unnatural, but it's still very strange things to say.
And the feeling I get, at least, is that Dumbledore is trying to convince himself that he's okay with death. Especially in book six where his mortality is catching up with him, he has much to prepare, and yet he's not quite prepared for when the end catches up to him despite himself.
This is a guy who thinks about death a lot and why he's no doubt convinced himself that Flamel, who he views as a good man, was totally okay with him and his wife dying after he's been not dying for several centuries because Dumbledore swears a Dark Lord who's been dead for ten years is after the stone.
But Dumbledore doesn't seem to view Flamel with contempt in Philosopher's Stone, or even all that misguided, just someone who after a long life had realized it was finally time and accepted it gracefully because the stone was very nearly stolen thanks to Dumbledore's bizarre obstacle course he set up in the basement of his school.
(This is where @therealvinelle and I come in, because we call foul on Flamel rolling over to die that easily when there have surely been thieves in the past, or letting Dumbledore do any of Philosopher's Stone without any intervention whatsoever and then supposedly quietly dying while Harry's passed out and agreeing to smash the stone after all that work to protect it.)
What Dumbledore is Not
Dumbledore clearly views Tom as bad in not accepting mortality, in murdering others to ensure his own immortality (rightly so, that's a very bad thing to do, as is splitting your soul apart even if it didn't require murder) but, and as weird as it is for me to defend Dumbledore, he's not itching at the bit to destroy Tom for that alone. That's just a facet to him of why Tom has gone too far and is unsalvageable and must be destroyed. It's a character flaw to Dumbledore, but one of many and not the main issue for all he brings it up quite often.
Dumbledore never gives off vibes of getting rid of or killing anyone who ever looks into immortality. Flamel, if @therealvinelle and I are correct, was left alone for many years when Dumbledore was personally acquainted with him and his wife until 1991. If there's other people who have similar immortality granting things, then we at least don't hear about them canonically.
Depending who they are, Dumbledore might view them as misguided, fearful, or else hold them in contempt but he's not a serial killer who's planning to hunt down people and murder them for doing things he doesn't like.
But the short answer is no, I don't think Dumbledore would do that.

Chapter One Excerpt:
“Good luck,” Bill said as he squeezed her shoulder before taking a step back to stand next to Andromeda.
Hermione gave the two of them a curt nod of her head as she checked to make certain that her wand was holstered on her forearm and the long, thin chain of the time turner was secure around her neck.
“T–Thank you,” Hermione said, struggling to find the right words. “For everything.”
Bill grinned at her, his scars pulled tight on his face. His eyes were pained, sad. “Don’t thank us just yet, Hermione. We aren’t even certain this will work. It’s just that–”
“It’s our only hope, our only option,” Hermione murmured, “for Harry.”
“For everyone,” Andromeda corrected as she peered around the drawing room of Grimmauld Place. “Remember what we went over?”
Nodding, Hermione repeated what she, Bill, Narcissa and Andromeda had gone over the last few weeks. “In order to save Harry, in order to save the wizarding world, we must save the House of Black.”
Andromeda frowned as she began to recall a specific time, decades earlier. “On the night of the fifteenth of July, 1976, Sirius was tortured by Walburga and Orion. He was facing almost certain death when he fled Grimmauld Place. Euphemia and Fleamont Potter brought him to St. Mungo’s after he’d arrived on their doorstep.” She paused for a moment. “I was working the front desk at St. Mungo’s that night. I saw him arrive via emergency floo-travel. It was bad, Hermione. The healers couldn’t even touch him until the effects of the Cruciatus Curse wore off. You need to prevent that from happening. That was the start of the end of my House.”
Hermione gave the older witch a sad smile. “And nothing can prevent that better than having a Muggle-born appear in the drawing room of Grimmauld Place, hollering at the top of her lungs about the destruction and eventual extinction of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.”
“It’ll certainly get their attention, if nothing else. We know that there’s no way they’d listen to you unless they’re forced to,” Bill muttered dryly as he checked the time on his watch before grabbing his wand. “You need to go now, Hermione. Me and Andy need to leave. At any moment, Harry’ll know we’re here if he doesn’t already. We can’t risk it any longer.”
Hermione gave him a curt nod and fiddled with the time turner in her hands. “Be safe. Be strong. Be good.”
“Always.”
Hermione double-checked that the device was set to the appropriate date, exactly twenty-one years earlier. Her eyes met both Bill’s and Andromeda’s once again. “Goodbye.”

Chapter Two Excerpt:
“This’ll be your bedroom,” Sirius muttered once they reached the third floor. He pushed open the door that was closest to the stairs and led the way inside. “You’re just below Regulus’ room,” he told Hermione once she and Regulus followed him inside. “My bedroom’s upstairs too, but it’s above the library which is just down the hall from here.”
Hermione took a moment to peer around the decent-sized room.
The walls were covered with the same green wallpaper that was out in the hallway, and the furniture was old – Victorian-age she believed – but the bedroom was fully furnished. On one side of the room there was a full-size bed with an ancient rosewood frame. The bedding was green and gold, and there had to be at least a dozen pillows piled at the head of the bed. On the far wall was a matching rosewood wardrobe and an old dressing shade that was folded up and leaning against the wardrobe. Along the wall nearest the door was an old desk and chair, with a spare quill and ink pot tucked away on the top right corner of the desk.
If she was remembering correctly, this had been Fred and George’s room during the summer before her fifth year, after Molly had conjured a bunch of beds for everyone to rest their heads.
“Thank you,” Hermione said, cautiously sinking down onto the bed. The mattress was so plush and luxurious that she almost wept. She unclipped her bum-bag from her hips and tugged it off, placing it next to her on the bed.
Hermione smiled tiredly at Sirius, who had his hands shoved into his pockets as he rocked back on his heels. He looked like he had about a million things that he wanted to ask her, but was forcing himself to keep his mouth shut for the time being.
Hermione didn’t think his restraint would last for much longer.

Kintsugi
Kintsugi https://ift.tt/wFTj8Al by weathertop16 Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise. She'll be fun to break, he thinks, as they start to dance. He'll break her into pieces and mend her with gold. He'll destroy her, and she'd come crawling back to him, begging to be mended. Potterverse - when God is an idiot
Crimes of Grindelwald was clearly a mess of a film. I didn’t expect much, after the Graves reveal of film 1, but one can hope, right? What makes this mess feel very modern, however, is that so much of it is due to Rowling’s inability to shut up on social media.
Take, for instance, the clusterfuck of Percival Graves and the Dumbledore family.
“Where is Percival Graves?” could have been part of the marketing campaign of the next film, even if Jo had had absolutely no use for the character. Since Grindelwald is revealed to reside in a big ass castle in film 2, it is quite plausible that this is in fact where Percival Graves has been all along. They could have killed him off screen - wasted away in the Nurmengard dungeon during Grindelwald’s own imprisonment in the US. It’s gruesome, but hardly implausible and the mystery is solved - Graves is in a shallow grave, having died of starvation 17 hours after the end of the first film. Grindelwald hadn’t exactly anticipated his own imprisonment in America, after all. Suck it up, fandom!
Why not make him an accomplice, though? He would have been as relevant to the plot a Vinda is right now, but you would have had some very happy fans, and it would fit, thematically - a bit like Hydra infiltrating SHIELD in Marvel. Of course, this being Colin, he would probably upstage Depp’s Grindelwald, so best ‘put him on a bus’ so to speak - off screen, but ready to be used at your earliest convenience. He could still give us beautiful infodump scenes, say as a messenger from Grindelwald to Dumbledore.
Too complicated? Colin too distracting? You hate the man for being a clearly better person/superior creator? Fine. Pull a Moody. Save Graves, send him back to MACUSA off screen. You need only show him coordinating Grindelwald’s transport at the beginning of film 2 to show us where he is at. Would give the audience some idea of the dangers of this Grindelwald man, to see Graves all worse for wear, plus it would make for some beautifully repressed anger between them. Ah, you don’t want to upstage the bleached pineapple Colin is unavailable? Have Seraphina merely mention him: “Do not underestimate Grindelwald. Our head Auror is still in a coma, and he’d never lost a duel in his life.”
The one thing they should not have done is spout Word of God contradictory nonsense about Graves never existing. Honestly. Simply gauge the audience reaction, write in a single line of exposition and in the meantime, tell the audience to wait and see. Whatever it turned out to be, fans might have clamoured it was a massive letdown given this buildup, but not a gigantic plot hole. The reason it is, is largely due to Rowling’’s desire to feel clever. Her Word of God making the film worse than it, taken at face value, needs to be.
Same with the Crendence-is-a Dumbledore storyline. It simply can’t be true. Dumbledore’s father was in prison, Dumbledore’s mother died without having any further children. No Aurelius was mentioned by anyone in Harry’s time. Moreover, there is a Quill of Acceptance in Hogwarts, writing down the name of every magical child born in the UK and Ireland in the Book of Admittance.
If there had been an Aurelius Dumbledore, might Albus Dumbledore, Headmaster of Hogwarts and thereby in possession of that book, not have been made aware of that fact? True, this being Dumbledore, he could have ignored it, but really, to what end? All tormented about Ariana, would he really have been like: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ to learn he has a magical brother in the USA? When there’s all kind of Obscurial disturbances in the US at the latest, wouldn’t he have been like... “Best look into that?” And yeah, he sent Newt, but whatever Newt was doing - he wasn’t actively looking for Credence. He only learnt about Credence from Tina.
Also, in the first film, Grindelwald himself had no idea who Credence even was. He’d seen him in a vision, and thought the Obscurial was much younger. Even if you have never read the books, people who have watched the first film would remember that. So why would he now know exactly who Credence is? He’s been detained for months, who told him - Abernathy?!
And yet, the one who canonically doesn’t know any of this? Credence. He has no idea who Dumbledore is. He doesn’t know he’s met Grindelwald before. What we, the audience, do know, and Credence can only suspect - Grindelwald is a manipulative liar. Grindelwald knows about Ariana Dumbledore, another Obscurial, and would be able to describe her to Credence, making a familial connection sound plausible to him. Again, the boy has nothing else to go on. What he does have is a need for a provider, a burning desire to be part of a family and probably a tremendous rage directed at the people who he feels have rejected him. He would be very willing to unleash all that rage on Grindelwald’s ex and nemesis. This, for an audience member who has more information than Credence (even if you’ve only seen the first film), is actually quite riveting. It is a trainwreck waiting to happen, and, unlike Queenie’s ‘conversion’, it is psychologically plausible.
So of course, instead of trusting the audience’s intelligence - which she once did when it came to Snape’s loyalties, she goes blabbering about Credence really being a Dumbledore before the third film is even out. Honestly, with these pandemic delays, she would have time to revise her whole timeline, but noooo - logic be damned, prior information in her own canon be damned, human psychology be damned - Credence has to be a Dumbledore because I Can Do What I Want, Now Pay Up!
Sure, there might be something poetic about Grindelwald using Dumbledore’s own brother against him, but given that Rowling doesn’t care about the structure and rules of her own story or how humans actually tick (looking at Queenie) I do not trust her to actually dive into that. And Credence as a willing, terribly misguided, and deadly instrument of a lying Grindelwald is a strong enough setup for conflict for film three without all this Dumbledore nonsense. If they’d just have not commented, the ending would have actually been quite strong. Now, rather than a cliffhanger, it is an even bigger plot hole than in film 1.
I mean, maybe that is the point, and we learn in film 3 that Dumbledore indeed is a time travelling Harry. Otherwise, I just can’t see why JKR keeps ruining her own endings on social media. “Where is Percival Graves” is a fantastic cliffhanger. “OMG, poor Credence has no idea how badly he is being manipulated into becoming a weapon of mass destruction” is psychologically very suspenseful, and maybe a few people will even fall for the Dumbledore red herring. That is totally OK too.
But for the love of storytelling: can someone shut this woman up already?

Harry couldn't help but smile, both at Dumbledore's words, and how the man looked, relaxed in the Head's chair. Just as it should be. "Well, I have three. James, Albus and Lily. James is very much like his namesake. He was named after my father and Godfather. He's always into mischief, but he's a laugh to be around. His heart is always in the right place, even if his head misguides him sometimes. Albus is more like me than the others. But I think he also struggled more, with being my son. And also with the fact that he's named after you. He felt he had a lot to live up to. He's also the only one in either mine or his mother's family to not be placed in Gryffindor. But he's a good lad. Lily, again is much like her namesake. She's sweet, smart and a delight. She takes no hassle from either of her brothers. Much like her mother in that respect."
@regretismyconstantcompanion
Albus was hunched over his desk, glasses on as he worked on his Deluminator. He had almost perfected it, although there were still a few more glitches to be worked out. He was quite proud of this invention and confident that he would one day get it fully operational. Gellert was told him so many months earlier, apparently he'd had a vision of it working in the future! He'd seen a young red headed boy using it and beside him was a darker hair boy with glasses and lightening bolt scar of all things! Gellerts visions always did fascinate him and this latest one was certainly remarkable. Who were these boys and what exactly where they doing with his invention? Perhaps in the future he would go on to sell it, although that had certainly never been his intention. He had briefly wondered if perhaps the two boys were his sons, although he knew that was highly unlikely. "Dumbledore." Albus looked up sharply at the voice, looking around the room that was empty. He frowned slightly. "Hello?" He called out. It was the summer holidays at Hogwarts and very few students or faculty had remained behind. He hadn't been expecting visitors and besides, that voice was unfamiliar. "Dumbledore!" Albus stood this time, looking around the room with the Deluminator in hand. Just then it suddenly lit up itself and he paused as the voice called to him again. Wait, was someone trying to call him... through the Deluminator? He gasped softly, thinking of Gellerts vision. The boys! The red head and lightening scar! What if they were in trouble? What if they were experimenting in the future? He felt almost a tug toward it, and then there was a bright light and then... he was falling. It was similar to apparating but not quite. It felt longer, more our of his control as he turned an swirled and his stomach churned. There was another bright flash of light and then suddenly he was dropped sharply onto the ground and only just managed to catch himself before he fell. He groaned slightly, his stomach protesting and he feared he may be sick as his head swam. @dumbledoresthroughndthrough

JKR’s chamber of secrets: the racist undertones in the harry potter books
The harry potter book series is arguably one of the most popular works of modern fiction. It is widely regarded as essential reading for children all over the world, and has one of the biggest fan bases of any book series. Despite it being one of the biggest phenomena of English literature, the series and the author often showcase and promote bigoted opinions, such as racism, and transphobia. In this speech I will be discussing JKRs chamber of secrets: the underlying tones of racism in the Harry Potter books.
The first thing I would like to point out, is that the elves have from the beginning been seen as these happy, carefree slaves, that are completely and utterly against freedom. This to begin with, is feeding into the slaving myth and propaganda that slave owners that told to the general public so they could benefit from free labour. This is very racist as it suggests that JKR believes that slaves were a good thing and should not have been eradicated. Hermione is the only one who seems to care about the elves’ freedom and while fighting for their freedom she is seen as a silly, misguided person for it.
Another problem with this is that while the good guys try to fight back against Voldemort's racist ideology of only wanting purebloods to exist, and wants to eradicate muggleborns, they also complicit with Voldemort's racist ideology. Wizards treat muggles as inferior to them this is shown from the first book, ‘even the muggles have noticed somethings going on’ Professor McGonagall says dismissively and Hagrid tells Harry ‘It’s your bad luck you grew up in a family o’ the biggest Muggles I ever laid eyes on’. It is obvious that the word muggle is not only a description it’s an insult. They also abuse muggles by erasing their memories which is distinctly a violation of consent. The books show an obvious social hierarchy, the idea that some people are better than others: purebloods, half-bloods, muggleborns, muggles, half-giants, werewolves, goblins, elves. And if this way of thinking is applied, as this book is targeted to children it can make them think that some people are better than others and if they apply this to race, sexuality, and transgender people, it can create a generation of bigoted people as so many people see her as a role model that they can copy her bigoted way of thinking. She is one of the main reasons that there are so many transphobic people is because SHE encouraged them to become more radicalised.
J.K Rowling is also anti semantic as she based goblins on harmful Jewish stereotypes. Due to years of anti-Semitism Jews were portrayed as having big noses and being greedy, as they tended to work with money. But at this point who's surprised?
The few people of colour presented in the books were done in a racist fashion. Firstly, the Patil sisters, were the only desi characters in the book and they were sort of prissy and irrelevant to the story, that being said. The outfit they were is a more simplistic, watered-down, unflattering version of actual Indian ethnic wear. In general, Indian clothing is so bright and beautiful, and the designs are so intricate, the designers simply didn’t bother to represent Indian culture, instead chose to focus entirely on Hermione's glow up. Secondly, Cho Chang. WOW! Do I need to say more? This is one of the most openely racist things she has done. She took two Korean surnames mixed them together and called it a day. Especially in a magical world full of mystical names like Luna Lovegood, Albus Dumbledore, and Nymphadora Tonks, she didn’t even give the name even an ounce of thought.
By casting a Korean actress to play Nagini, in Fantastic Beasts, who later on becomes a pet for a white man, when she is the only Asian character is racist. End of story. It is specifically the lack of diversity that makes this stand out. It IS racist to Asian women because Asian women only ever see stereotypes like the exotic Asian woman who is fetishized by white men – which is a REAL thing. Having Nagini being owned and controlled by a white man, is harmful and just racist. Did J.K Rowling not have a single person that could have pointed the problem of having an Asian women end up in permanent enslavement to an evil white guy?
Due to the criticism J.K Rowling received for not including enough diversity in the books, she claimed that Hermione was black, which is great, but did not bother to include this in the books. She thought that by saying that ‘hey guys I now think Hermione is black’ it was enough. She simply wanted those brownie points. It is increasingly obvious that she can never be bothered to write good representation. She also did this when she made Albus Dumbledore gay, as queer baiting to add more diversity. This could be rebutted with the idea that she does not know how to include more accurate representation. However, Rick Riordan, who in the beginning didn’t have a very inclusive universe, strived and learned to write and include diversity in the Percy Jackson universe. The author of one of the most popular book series is more than capable of learning how to write more inclusive books, she does not though because she is racist, homophobic and transphobic.
In conclusion, there are a lot of racist undertones to the harry potter books, that reflect the authors actual feelings in real life. She does not include enough representation and the few she does are written in a racist manner. In recent years she has also proved to be incredibly transphobic, teaching young children who see her as a role model that trans men are not real men, when they are and the other way round. And this concludes, today’s speech on why JK Rowling is a vile human being.
this is my speech it suck but it drags JKR through the mud and i have no brain cells left over
also @noboren and @sarcastic-sayori heres my shitty speech if you think of ways of making better please tell me
WOOHOO BESTIEEE NICE!!!!! Drag her 😌🙏🏼

The Meeting with Minerva
@snapeaddict requested this, and after giving my so much positivity over my small ficlet over @kalkar0s , I couldn’t refuse :D. This is a continuation of this but can be read on its own. Enjoy. :D
P.S I’m not a native speaker so please excuse any mistakes thank you-
*
A year later Severus stand by the gates of Hogwarts, bag in his hand, and almost turns around and leaves again.
Some days are better than others. Today, not so.
He touches his scarred neck with hands worn throughout the years and is prepared to leave, pretend that he wasn’t ever here.
Harry doesn’t make it any easier, coming to meet him by the gates at their scheduled time, right to the second, and Severus cannot help himself but chuckle, thinking of the detentions Harry could never reach on time.
Once upon a time.
Once upon a time, long ago, when Severus was an angry man.
He’s still an angry man. Still bitter to the world, bad at talking. But a year has passed, and though not everyone is used to seeing the man as, well, as good as he is now, it always comes with the inevitable doubt and suspicion.
Harry smiles, perhaps one of the few smiles that didn’t doubt him.
“Professor Snape,” Harry greets him in his teaching robes that fit well on his still small frame, “It’s good to see you.”
“So as you, Professor,” Severus greets him, shaking the boy’s hand. But he isn’t a boy anymore, is he? Harry’s grown. Matured. Far more than any student at eighteen could hope to be.
Harry chuckles and starts leading the way to the castle, pst the lake and amidst crowds of younger students he dismisses with a wave and a smile, “Please, Professor, it’s Harry.”
“Just Harry,” Severus says, clutching his bag closer as some students stare and whisper.
Harry grins and gestures the doors of Hogwarts, “Welcome back, Professor.”
Severus smiles.
*
The whole staff, except for McGonogall, who is away on some business at the Ministry for some business, is there to greet him at the staff room where Harry introduces them as though they’ve never met before.
Nothings changed, except for quite everything, Severus notes, seating himself beside Madam Pomfrey, who gushes and pestered over him and checks the scarring on his neck more than a few times.
Severus doesn’t stop her. But he doesn’t talk much either, still rather bitter. He answers when spoken to, questions the matters he’s rather curious about and offers a hint of a smile, only a hint, when he leaves the staff room.
“I think they liked you,” Harry says, patting him on the shoulder, “I mean really liked you.”
“First impressions must always be pleasant, Harry.”
Harry chuckles, “Don’t I know it.”
*
Severus visits Hagrid, too, and stays for a cup of foul tea, listening with a blank face as Hagrid weeps and blows into his handkerchief and sees him off with a tight, bone-crushing hug. Harry tries to encourage him with airy congratulations. Snickering at his glares and leads him back inside to visit the Slytherins.
Horace Slughorn was a good Head of House.
Severus Snape was only the very best.
The Slytherins don’t hug him. They don’t pester him, either, but they swarm him with talk and conversation and the youngest of students, now in their second year, greet him with gifts and cards and beg him to come back because Professor Slughorn loves to play favourites.
Behind him, Harry laughs and tries to cover it with a cough, and Draco and the rest of the Slytherin that decided to come back and hadn't joined the Dark Lord’s ranks scold him and threaten to kick him out.
Severus smirks at their rivalry, now some form of a one-sided powerplay. A student and a Professor, old school rivals, but one with the advantage of house points and detentions on his side.
Severus notes with sour thoughts that if not for Harry’s innocence, it wouldn’t necessarily be fun.
Harry takes him to the monument, then. A memory. Right at the courtyard where a statue of the school stands proud behind a swarm of names that surround it. Some miniature lions run around it. One is labelled Fred Weasly.
A badger stands tall beside the rocks and is called Nymphadora Tonks.
Some eagles. Some snakes. And only because Harry convinced McGonagall to let the Slytherins fight too.
Fifty, fallen.
Fifty, not forgotten.
They stand there and for a short while, among the quite, mourn for those who protected Hogwarts.
*
They wait in McGonagall's office with anxious impatience. Well, Severus does. Harry, blasted Harry, only grins his direction and assures him that seeing as the rest of the staff greeted him with open arms, the Headmistress would be no different. Dumbeldore agrees, up in his portrait. Smiling with an air pleasure and gestures to the bowl of Sherbet Lemons on McGonagall's table, a complementary honouring on her side.
“I’d rather not,” Severus bites back, leaning on his chair, “I’m not nervous,”
“Are you not, dear boy?” Albus says with a chuckle, his eyes twinkling, “You seem changed.”
“I am changed.”
“Yes, but you’re still misguided, in some areas.”
Severus glares at him. Standing from his chair, he stalks behind the Headmistress’ chair, arms clenched on both sides, “And how so?”
“You think you need to stop being bitter to be better,” Harry answers instead, and Severus turns with raised brows, “You don’t, Professor.”
“Elaborate, if you please.”
Harry stands up and starts to walk over, plopping a Sherbet Lemon into his mouth and winces while he chews, “I’m not asking you to stop being bitter and start being sociable. By all means, please don’t, if it makes you uncomfortable. You have a right to be angry. A right to be upset. But I’ve seen you today, seen you over this whole year and honestly, Professor Snape?” Harry shrugs, a soft smile on his face, “It’s enough.”
Severus licks his lips. He looks up at Dumbledore, and then at Harry before he shuts his eyes, running a hand through his hair, “I don’t understand.”
“You don’t have to. Just trust me. Haven’t gotten you killed this far.”
Severus chuckles darkly on his way to return to his seat, “God forbid.”
“You’re fine, Professor,” Harry says one last time, just as Severus is about to sit down, “You’re fine.”
Severus meets his eyes. Those appeasing eyes. They were always Lily’s, yes. Just as most of the boy was James’s.
But it’s not either of you, is it?
It’s Harry. Just Harry.
Behind him, the door opens. Severus refuses to turn, even when a bag falls from the intruder's hand. Even when a gasp, an all familiar gasp, comes from the Headmistress, Severus refuses to turn.
Harry takes him by the shoulder, helps him around, and does his round of introductions one more time.
“Headmistress,” he stars, gesturing towards Severus, “This is Professor Severus Snape. Professor Snape,” Severus looks up at his name, and meets the eye of his own teacher, who’s gaze is surprised otherworldly and seems only vaguely threatening, “This is Headmistress Minerva McGonagall.”
Severus’ throat had gone parched. But he extends a hand, either way, shaking mid-air and too weak to grab McGonagall’s.
“Pleasure to see you, Headmistress,” he says, voice equally unsteady, and Minerva doesn’t take his hand.
It’s too late to back away once McGonagall- Minerva has her hands around his neck, pulling him down to a hug.
It’s too late to back away when Severus wraps his own arms hesitantly around the sobbing witch. Too late to stop his own moist eyes from shedding a few tears.
Was God merciful?
Snape was beginning to think so.
