Series: Part 1 of Magic and Bluejays
Summary:
Harry Potter reacts much differently to the Dementor attack on his cousin and it causes a cascade of changes in the lives of everyone he knows. He runs away to France to escape the English Ministry's bias and gets a solicitor (lawyer) to deal with his legal issues. Part one of a book 5 re-write that can be read stand-alone.
Featuring: Snape's POV. People making decisions for Harry without talking to him about it first. The Horcrux in his head influencing Harry's mind. Professional psychologists/mind healers doing good work. Snape using cannibus.
He would not go back to Privet Drive without bringing the law. He’d lose his temper and end up in Azkaban. Even with aurors at his back, he was likely to hex dear old Tuney into next week if he had to interact with her again. The fines would be worth it.

Based off one of your podcast episodes where you think Dumbledore killed Flamel, do you think Dumbledore would kill any wizard who found out different methods to being immortal?
Anon's referring to an @rankheresy episode by me and @therealvinelle (specifically this one)
TL;DL: @therealvinelle and I concluded that Dumbledore had killed Flamel before the events of Philosopher's Stone.
The thing is, that wasn't why we theorized Dumbledore killed him.
Dumbledore and Mortality
First, a bit about Dumbledore and death.
Dumbledore has some major hangups on death. To be fair, we all do, but Albus especially seems to in part because he seems to have obsessed over it in his youth as well as at his canonical age.
We know he chased after immortality as a young man and this concept of Master of Death. We know that upon gaining the cloak from the Potters, as well as the ring, he did get weird about it. Mostly, though, it's how he talks about death.
Dumbledore's often reiterating that death is a natural occurrance, which yes it is, but he romanticizes it. Death is the next great adventure, death is like going to sleep after a long hard day's work, it's a rest, a new path, and something we should look forward to when our time comes. And true, he's saying this to a child and of course sugar-coating things, and he's trying to explain why Tom's obsession with death and his horcruxes are unnatural, but it's still very strange things to say.
And the feeling I get, at least, is that Dumbledore is trying to convince himself that he's okay with death. Especially in book six where his mortality is catching up with him, he has much to prepare, and yet he's not quite prepared for when the end catches up to him despite himself.
This is a guy who thinks about death a lot and why he's no doubt convinced himself that Flamel, who he views as a good man, was totally okay with him and his wife dying after he's been not dying for several centuries because Dumbledore swears a Dark Lord who's been dead for ten years is after the stone.
But Dumbledore doesn't seem to view Flamel with contempt in Philosopher's Stone, or even all that misguided, just someone who after a long life had realized it was finally time and accepted it gracefully because the stone was very nearly stolen thanks to Dumbledore's bizarre obstacle course he set up in the basement of his school.
(This is where @therealvinelle and I come in, because we call foul on Flamel rolling over to die that easily when there have surely been thieves in the past, or letting Dumbledore do any of Philosopher's Stone without any intervention whatsoever and then supposedly quietly dying while Harry's passed out and agreeing to smash the stone after all that work to protect it.)
What Dumbledore is Not
Dumbledore clearly views Tom as bad in not accepting mortality, in murdering others to ensure his own immortality (rightly so, that's a very bad thing to do, as is splitting your soul apart even if it didn't require murder) but, and as weird as it is for me to defend Dumbledore, he's not itching at the bit to destroy Tom for that alone. That's just a facet to him of why Tom has gone too far and is unsalvageable and must be destroyed. It's a character flaw to Dumbledore, but one of many and not the main issue for all he brings it up quite often.
Dumbledore never gives off vibes of getting rid of or killing anyone who ever looks into immortality. Flamel, if @therealvinelle and I are correct, was left alone for many years when Dumbledore was personally acquainted with him and his wife until 1991. If there's other people who have similar immortality granting things, then we at least don't hear about them canonically.
Depending who they are, Dumbledore might view them as misguided, fearful, or else hold them in contempt but he's not a serial killer who's planning to hunt down people and murder them for doing things he doesn't like.
But the short answer is no, I don't think Dumbledore would do that.

Chapter One Excerpt:
“Good luck,” Bill said as he squeezed her shoulder before taking a step back to stand next to Andromeda.
Hermione gave the two of them a curt nod of her head as she checked to make certain that her wand was holstered on her forearm and the long, thin chain of the time turner was secure around her neck.
“T–Thank you,” Hermione said, struggling to find the right words. “For everything.”
Bill grinned at her, his scars pulled tight on his face. His eyes were pained, sad. “Don’t thank us just yet, Hermione. We aren’t even certain this will work. It’s just that–”
“It’s our only hope, our only option,” Hermione murmured, “for Harry.”
“For everyone,” Andromeda corrected as she peered around the drawing room of Grimmauld Place. “Remember what we went over?”
Nodding, Hermione repeated what she, Bill, Narcissa and Andromeda had gone over the last few weeks. “In order to save Harry, in order to save the wizarding world, we must save the House of Black.”
Andromeda frowned as she began to recall a specific time, decades earlier. “On the night of the fifteenth of July, 1976, Sirius was tortured by Walburga and Orion. He was facing almost certain death when he fled Grimmauld Place. Euphemia and Fleamont Potter brought him to St. Mungo’s after he’d arrived on their doorstep.” She paused for a moment. “I was working the front desk at St. Mungo’s that night. I saw him arrive via emergency floo-travel. It was bad, Hermione. The healers couldn’t even touch him until the effects of the Cruciatus Curse wore off. You need to prevent that from happening. That was the start of the end of my House.”
Hermione gave the older witch a sad smile. “And nothing can prevent that better than having a Muggle-born appear in the drawing room of Grimmauld Place, hollering at the top of her lungs about the destruction and eventual extinction of the Noble and Most Ancient House of Black.”
“It’ll certainly get their attention, if nothing else. We know that there’s no way they’d listen to you unless they’re forced to,” Bill muttered dryly as he checked the time on his watch before grabbing his wand. “You need to go now, Hermione. Me and Andy need to leave. At any moment, Harry’ll know we’re here if he doesn’t already. We can’t risk it any longer.”
Hermione gave him a curt nod and fiddled with the time turner in her hands. “Be safe. Be strong. Be good.”
“Always.”
Hermione double-checked that the device was set to the appropriate date, exactly twenty-one years earlier. Her eyes met both Bill’s and Andromeda’s once again. “Goodbye.”

Nagini never said she wanted a mate
Nagini never said she wanted a mate
by TraumDieb
Nagini never wanted a mate - she often discussed that with her master before. So why did he come home with a giant male snake and told her to bother her new companion instead of him? After scenting the air she decided the younger snake would be a better match for her master than herself. She would get the hatchlings together and maybe her master would let her eat the rat that deliciously smells like fear as a reward. Her master never liked him anyways.
Or alternatively: - Nagini playing matchmaker - Harry is not having a good time - Voldemort didn't know that snakes could be gay but you learn something new every day

I'll Raise You Right (As I Know How)
read it on the AO3 at https://ift.tt/KAeOJpZ
by Deadbones2000
Bellatrix Lestrange was a deeply unlucky woman, despite the many assurances she recieved to the contrary. Despite walking free while her husband and his co-conspirators were sentences to life in Azkaban, she was not happy - far from it. She was almost completely estranged from her family, and the closest thing she had left to a friend came in the unfortunate form of Severus Snape, who had hitherto been a character on the periphery of her life, a friend of her baby cousin Regulus and nothing more.
Still, having the begrudging acquaintance of the Hogwarts Potions Master came with benefits - namely, an unexpected link to Harry Potter. She had failed the boy when she allowed her husband to run off and kill his parents, perhaps now she could make ammends. Only when she arrived at Number Four Privet Drive did she realise how dire the situation actually was, alongside the fact that she was now inextricabaly connected to the boy. He reminded her entirely too much of Regulus, and that just wouldn't stand. She couldn't have Harry turning out like her baby cousin, she simply couldn't live with herself if he did.
And if she had always wanted a son to begin with, well, that was no-one's business but her own.

Dumbledore did not create Voldemort.
"He was not treated nicely by anyone and ofc he would be vindictive of non-magicals" at this point Tom didn't know anything about magic/muggles. sure, he had some idea about him being special, but his view was that he was superior, better. (supported by text and his repeated actions). He bullied(or tortured) fellow students in the cave before Dumbledore came into the picture. ofc it can be argued that he was retaliating, but that's for your interpretation.
Dumbledore reprimanded him in the first meeting, for his thievery and bullying. sure he could've dealt with it better, but he didn't think he was rotten to the core. (Dumbledore states he never thought he met the dark lord in that moment) After coming to hogwarts, Dumbledore treats him like any other student but keeps an eye on him when teachers mention him a lot. Again, it's interesting to see why he would do that? did he think he was bad? the boy was actually getting his followers to call him dark lord by this point. I don't think there's canonical evidence that Dumbledore kept an eye on him before his supremacist tendencies (correct me if I'm wrong). I personally do think jkrs intent of making voldemort an "inherently evil" character kinda comes into play here because Dumbledore is a character that she uses to be the "objective truth" "no questions asked" relayer. it can be questioned, ofc, but I'm talking about the intent. so, yes, there are flaws in the way Dumbledore was written to be critical of Riddle but he wasn't responsible for his bigotry. that's quite offensive in fact. not every character is redeemable or was misguided troubled kid.
Voldemort turning out the way he did with the circumstances he was under is quite literally the antithesis of Harry Potter. They were both orphans in abusive circumstances... they couldn't be more morally different. Imo, Dumbledore and Tom's relationship or interactions were poorly handled and had more potential. Dumbledore wasn't even the biggest authority figure in Tom's life, he wasn't HM then, only one teacher.
Suddenly remembered Dumbledore defending leaving Harry with Dursleys by saying (not verbatim) that it'd keep him humble and not make him too egotistical cause of his fame (probably cause of his view of james). that's an insane thing to think about a child who just lost his parents actually. and while leaving him with people who despise anything magic ( I mean he should have some idea). what i mean to say is, this man is by no means a saint. so if Dumbledore is responsible for anyone turning bad, it's Harry. He played a larger and more active role in his life!! but the boy didn't turn evil!!
Also, a thing about Dumbledore and glory/fame/thinking you are special. he WAS that kid. he thought he was fucking special, and better than everyone. that he was soooo smart and no one gets him (until grindlewald). this pipeline led to his sister's tragic death, his estrangement with his brother and losing the love of his life. As an adult, he could've treated children better, sure. but he was flawed like many other adults in this universe. Dumbledore keeping an eye on riddle could be a result of this and him sending Harry away too! is it the best course of action? absolutely not. but it is a consequence of his character itself. and no one else actually stepped in to question his behavior. (McGonagall does with Harry, but in the end, simply chooses to trust albus) (again, not very responsible of her either)
ITS a convoluted mess atp, but Dumbledore in fact saw a child. he was just indifferent like he is with every other child. (his reaction when tom mentions parseltongue. Tom wants to be more special among what he considered special, but albus doesnt really give the reaction he wanted) Dumbledore isn't a nice guy but he isn't responsible for the evil dictator Tom turned out to be.
Friendly reminder that Tom Riddle didn’t create Voldemort. Dumbledore created Voldemort.
Tom was raised in a Religious Orphanage in the 30s and 40s. He was not treated nicely by anyone. Of course he would be vindictive and hate Non-Magicals.
Dumbledore on the other hand decided that an eleven-year-old was the anti-Christ and treated him like he was already a mass-murderer.
Tom was in the Orphanage in London when the bombs fell. Of course he would be terrified of dying. He was abandoned by his only living relatives. Of course he’d wish them dead.
Dumbledore looked at a child and saw a demon. If he had seen a child, Voldemort would never have existed.
Give me arguments if you disagree.

Chapter Two Excerpt:
“This’ll be your bedroom,” Sirius muttered once they reached the third floor. He pushed open the door that was closest to the stairs and led the way inside. “You’re just below Regulus’ room,” he told Hermione once she and Regulus followed him inside. “My bedroom’s upstairs too, but it’s above the library which is just down the hall from here.”
Hermione took a moment to peer around the decent-sized room.
The walls were covered with the same green wallpaper that was out in the hallway, and the furniture was old – Victorian-age she believed – but the bedroom was fully furnished. On one side of the room there was a full-size bed with an ancient rosewood frame. The bedding was green and gold, and there had to be at least a dozen pillows piled at the head of the bed. On the far wall was a matching rosewood wardrobe and an old dressing shade that was folded up and leaning against the wardrobe. Along the wall nearest the door was an old desk and chair, with a spare quill and ink pot tucked away on the top right corner of the desk.
If she was remembering correctly, this had been Fred and George’s room during the summer before her fifth year, after Molly had conjured a bunch of beds for everyone to rest their heads.
“Thank you,” Hermione said, cautiously sinking down onto the bed. The mattress was so plush and luxurious that she almost wept. She unclipped her bum-bag from her hips and tugged it off, placing it next to her on the bed.
Hermione smiled tiredly at Sirius, who had his hands shoved into his pockets as he rocked back on his heels. He looked like he had about a million things that he wanted to ask her, but was forcing himself to keep his mouth shut for the time being.
Hermione didn’t think his restraint would last for much longer.

Kintsugi
Kintsugi https://ift.tt/wFTj8Al by weathertop16 Kintsugi (金継ぎ, "golden joinery"), also known as kintsukuroi (金繕い, "golden repair"), is the Japanese art of repairing broken pottery by mending the areas of breakage with lacquer dusted or mixed with powdered gold, silver, or platinum. As a philosophy, it treats breakage and repair as part of the history of an object, rather than something to disguise.   She'll be fun to break, he thinks, as they start to dance. He'll break her into pieces and mend her with gold. He'll destroy her, and she'd come crawling back to him, begging to be mended. Harry Potter, the Boy Who Lived, the Saviour of the Wizarding World, has had enough. Ever since the death of his godfather and the destruction of the headmaster's office. Veritas Vos Liberabit
@magicblooms
When the truth overpowered Albus Dumbledore’s misguided beliefs at last, it was akin to being struck by a ferocious lightning bolt.
Albus’ features contorted in pain, for the electricity coursing through his body, mind, and soul, assembling pieces he had not dared to connect, was a tremendous force of nature. And had he been of a lesser mind, he would have shattered there and then.
For many years, he had allowed his guilt to consume him, and he had allowed it to cloud his judgment in a manner fatal to the magical and non-magical society alike. How could he have believed that Gellert Grindelwald was the most dangerous evil that had befallen them both? And how could he have mistaken his self-inflicted punishments for genuine acts of altruism?
The very instant he discovered the Resurrection Stone and allowed Tom’s curse to gnaw away at his  flesh, his sinews, and his bones, he was forced to recognize that the blind idealism and the potent sense of self-sacrifice he had nurtured within young Harry were a double-edged sword.
“You must lend me your Cloak, Harry,” he thus told the boy on the very next day. “I wish to enhance it with a rather useful spell I invented.”
And trusting as the boy was, he dutifully retrieved it from the Gryffindor Common Room and handed it to Albus.
The sheer power that jolted through Albus’ body was staggering, and Albus swiftly excused himself with a forced smile. It was a power he had feared not only for years, but for decades, a power he hadn’t trusted himself to wield responsibly until his impending death forced him to steel his resolve.
Even if the boy were to sacrifice himself in the way he had predicted, Albus did not trust Harry’s ability to find and destroy Tom’s remaining Horcruxes and defeat the foul wizard himself.
It only occurred to Albus that his feet had carried him to the new location of the Mirror of Erised when he was already standing before of it, and he released a soft chuckle.
Were the most forbidden among the desires he had buried in the recesses of his mind themselves the answer he had been looking for? He took a determined step towards the mirror, no longer forcing himself to disregard the mere possibility, and faced the truth his enchanted reflection presented.
With his golden locks, fair skin, and intense mismatched eyes, Gellert’s beauty was as striking as Albus remembered, yet Albus was surprised to notice that, for the very first time, he did not see his younger self being caressed and kissed by the man he had never stopped loving, did not see them form the Blood Pact that would bind them for many years to come.
Instead, the illusion of his former lover beckoned him closer with an outstretched hand, and Albus obeyed and closed the final distance between himself and the Mirror.
From that moment, the linearity of time was being reduced to a mere concept, disconnected memories entered and exited Albus’ mind, and his skin regained its previous tautness and youthful appearance.
When the maelstrom came to a halt at last, Albus was kneeling in an unlit alley, shivering at the caress of the cold, biting wind.
He was about to rise to his feet and search for a temporary abode when he picked up on the voice he would never fail to recognize and a soft gasp escaped him.
“Gellert...”
