Another bit of MiraculousScript! [Japanese, Chinese]

You know what? We’re also working on Japanese and Chinese versions of Climatika episode. In fact, we already have them fully transcribed!

It was pretty fun to do! Listening to different types of voices as language changes is very interesting. 

And I (Knuttunk) looove Japanese Marinette! She’s soooo adorable. <3

I also really like Chinese Chat Noir, his voice is not too high nor too deep. I know his Korean voice is pretty deep and sexy, and his Japanese voice is rather high and fresh, but his Chinese voice is something in between and is pretty fitting as a highschooler imo. But all of them are very good, of course.

For Miraculous and in general for Anime, it seems like the voices of guys/mid to high teens tend to be set deeper in Asian languages when compared to those of dubs in Western languages. I wonder why?

Self introduction: Knuttunk (クヌート)

Hi, this is Knuttunk (クヌート)! You can also call me Knut in short.

(I also go by mirabug55 on Tumblr, but I don’t really use this name.)

I learned about Miraculous about 2 years ago on Twitter as someone’s post of Adrien’s transformation sequence to Chat Noir landed on my timeline. It caught my attention with its smooth animation and, of course, the character’s attractive appearance and that smirky face. 😏 

At the same time, I found some people posting drawings with explanations to main characters’ complicated relationships. And I couldn’t help myself but start searching for what this series really looks like!

So I ended up watching episodes in Korean with Japanese sub. Then in English. And then French, obligatory. And German too. Finally from this July, in Japanese - my native language. Oh I enjoy this show soooo much. It’s action-scenes and the story full of unique characters are truly amazing.

As I mentioned already in this first post, the reason I started this project is that I got curious about the differences of character’s lines in Miraculous series that airs in 20+ languages. I already noticed some alterations of lines between the languages mentioned above, and I’m sure there are a lot more if we compare all versions.

Are these changes due to cultural differences? Or wordplay which are not reproduceable in another language? Or simply because of the length of the line and the length of the scene don’t match? We will see!

An important note: I’m going to work on this project whenever I’ve got time and energy for. 

Have fun and stay miraculous - that’s the policy of this project and these are the only things I expect for the members of this project, including myself. No pressure at all! 

Since I speak Japanese, English and German, these will be the versions I will be working on. 

BUT! I can’t do this alone! There are still A LOT to cover, and it’s also better to have more than one person working on a language to minimize mistakes in transcription and translation.

New Project: MiraculousScript!

Hello Miraculers!

I'm rebooting the project I came up with about 2 years ago! It's finally kicking off!

Ever wondered about the differences in names, phrases or even the conversation content in the ‘Miraculous’ show in different languages?

Then you are here at the right place!

In this new project “MiraculousScript”, I (@mirabug55 / Knuttunk (クヌート) ) am going to make an overview of characters list and transcripts of the show!

With this, I am hoping to help you compare and contrast each language’s version with the other.

I actually started this tiny project just for myself as I was watching French, English, Korean and German versions (yeah I’m soooo obsessed with this awesome animation series) and noticed the language differences in dialogues.

I was curious to see more of them, and then thought this might be useful to other Miraculers too. Who knows.

I know that MiraculousWiki has some transcriptions for each shows, but not the translation. In this project I wish to add translations beside the original transcript too, and this not only limited to English but in any language wanted. In this way I hope to connect Miraculers worldwide, and also make it easier for all of us to learn some new languages too! (This part was my important motive too - to learn new language! I was inspired by Miraculous so much that I started learning French and Korean!)

So yeah! I’m starting it off with great support of people behind MiraculousWiki and MiraculousSubs + MiraculousFrench ! I’m sure most of you know these people already, they are making such a great contributions to the fandom that I cannot thank them enough. Thank you very much for your generous permission to use their transcriptions and translations for completing the table.

And yes, as you may have already noticed, my native tongue is none of the languages in which Miraculous is currently aired. (T_T) UPDATE: Yaaay!! Now it’s airing in Japnaese too! And it’s awesome!! Woo-hoo!!

Nontheless, I know this show has spread worldwide for long already, which makes this project busy! I still need lots of help for the languages I don’t speak.

So, that means: NEW MEMBERS ARE WELCOME!! PLEASE JOIN THIS PROJECT!

As you will see in the next posts, I created Excel tables in GoogleDoc for collecting characters and episode transcripts of different langauges. Oh and the lyrics for the theme song too. :)

Hello Miraculers!

Here is the first bit of MiraculousScript! [French]

Updates for today:

Characters (personnages) - with their other forms (hero/villain) and family members! I didn’t manage to fill the description part since I don’t really speak French, sorry! It would be great if someone can help me with it. Oh and it covers everything in Season1 so SPOILER ALERT if you happen to be a newcomer! 

Theme song ‘Miraculous!‘ French lyrics - with English translation!

The first episode of Season1: Climatika is up in French! English translation will follow.

I’m really having fun doing this project. It takes a lot of time, but it’s worth it!

It’s a very nice overview for characters’ names alone (at least for me). And when I compare them between different languages, it’s interesting to see the differences in names, not only of villains but also of some normal citizen characters too.

For the lyrics and the episode transcript, I borrowed help from MiraculousWiki and MiraculousFrench. Thank you very much for your amazing contributions!

Oh, and if there is any mistakes and improvement ideas, out with them! I’ll appreciate them very much. I don’t know all the languages Miraculous is aired in (I wish I could), so please don’t hesitate to speak up!
