JONATHAN GROFF SETS 2025 BROADWAY RETURN WITH âJUST IN TIMEâ
by Philip Boroff
EXCLUSIVE: Newly minted Tony Award winner Jonathan Groff will play the 1950s and â60s crooner Bobby Darin in a staged reading next month, ahead of a planned Broadway opening in spring 2025, people familiar with the musical said.
The reading of Just in Time will be directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!). On Broadway, Tom Kirdahy and Robert Ahrens are set to produce the show, which tells the story of the short but eventful life of the popular performer, whose hits included âMack the Knife,â âDream Loverâ and âJust in Time.â
Born Walden Robert Cassotto in East Harlem, Darin had rheumatic fever as a child that damaged his heart. He lived, he acknowledged, as if on borrowed time before his death at 37.
He led a new generation of swinging singers into the rock revolution of the 1960s. He also acted in movies, composed music, married the actress Sandra Dee and as an adult discovered that the woman he thought was his older sister was his mother.
âI went on YouTube,â Groff told reporter Elysa Gardner before a rehearsal of an early version of the show, presented as part of the 92nd Street Y âs âLyrics and Lyricistâ series in 2018. âI watched all these TV performances, from the beginning to the end of his career, and I was blown away by his versatility. The rock & roll and the standards, the dancing, the folk songs. The duets with George Burns and Judy Garland. His life was insane.â
Darin spawned many imitators, including Kevin Spacey, who played him in the biofilm Beyond the Sea. The ballad âJust in Timeâ was composed by Jule Styne with lyrics by Adolph Green and Betty Comden for the musical Bells are Ringing. It became a hit for Dean Martin, among others, who was in the 1960 movie adaptation directed by Vincente Minnelli.
Besides Groff, casting wasnât available. The reading isnât affected by the monthlong Actorsâ Equity strike intended to pressure the Broadway League to improve its Development Agreement with the union. Actors will be working under a contract negotiated with the League of Resident Theatres (LORT), an association of nonprofit theater companies.
Although the reading will be in New York, itâs under the aegis of Signature Theatre in Arlington, Virginia, which is a LORT member.
In a charmed career, the 39-year-old Groff has performed in the Frozen films, the TV series Glee and three acclaimed Broadway blockbusters â Spring Awakening, Hamilton and most recently Merrily We Roll Along â each of which earned him a Tony nomination. (He won for Merrily.)
Groff was also the first Seymour in the hit off-Broadway revival of Little Shop of Horrors, produced by Ahrens, Kirdahy and Hunter Arnold. Andrew Barth Feldman is currently playing the role.
In his moving acceptance speech at the Tony awards in June, Groff spoke about his love of the Broadway community and how âmusical theater is still saving my soul.â Just in Time will aim for multigenerational appeal, as the young Broadway star sings 65-year-old standards.
Since the pandemic, older audiences have been slow to return to Broadway. If Just in Time is well received, Groff may be just the man to help bring them back.

Hey yâall! Say hello to flavortale!
These monsters are a relatively simple au! Like the dance and theatre monsters, after being trapped underground, they experienced an artistic revolution to cope. For this au, they discovered the joy of putting their art into food!
Now how did they do this when every other underground au struggled with food shortages? The answer is the barrier, or how the mages in the Great War made a very big mistake. They did in fact trap the monsters under the barrier, but they failed to put a limit on the barriers shape and size. After the entrapment, the monster kingdom quickly discovered this and just simply increased the barrier any time they needed space. They even broke the rocks above, claiming sections of land on the surface. No one could get in, or out, but no one could also stop the barriers movement from the outside even if they wanted to. The humans abandoned that area and left the monsters to themselves
With the ability to expand a certain amount every year, the royals biggest concern was making their people self sufficient as they could no longer rely on or even receive imports. Most expansions were made for farmland above whole underground, monsters made their homes. Over time they grew bored though with the same palate of food each day, and they began experimenting new ways to cook, leading to a culinary revolution!
Now here are the girls:
Taffy (flavortale sans):
Taffy is a freckled skeleton monster aged 60 with dual colored magic. She is mostly mint green with patches of peachy ecto scattered around her body. Itâs best seen in her freckles, which show the different colors. She stands 5 feet tall. She has a pleasantly plump and curvy ecto.
Taffy is a motherly kind monster who seems to adopt anyone who enjoys her foods. Sheâs a both a scientist and artist dedicated to the art of creating new flavors and textures with sugar! Shes incredibly creative! Sheâs affectionate and enjoys the company of her loved ones, but can be a bit overbearing when it comes to wanting to baby them. Itâs quite funny given how most of said friends are much larger than her, but she finds a way.
Taffy owns a prestigious candy shop in inner ebott with her sister and best friends. Theyâre a four monster team determined to amaze everyoneâs minds with how delicious their sugary treats are! Sheâs also leased out some of her more popular recipies and treats to be mass produced and sold in mellowmarts around ebott.
Taffy despite not knowing how to conjure a weapon before the crash, did go back and learn in adult classes. Her magic weapon is a massive battle axe nearly double her height. She named it sugarcane
Taffyâs special ability is stretch. As long as the object is hand sized or smaller, no matter the material, if she concentrates she can stretch and mold that material to her desired shape
Things she loves: candy of course! But her favorites are chocolate truffles with a flavored cream on the inside, bubbly grape soda, very brutal gory horror movies, stuffed animal bunnies, dance pop, leg warmers, frilly aprons, little kids, stickers, fancy wrapping paper, fairy roses, light up shoes, novelty candies, the color black
Pudding (flavortale papyrus)
Pudding is a freckled skeleton monster aged 39. She has a peachy pink magic and stands at 6 feet tall even. Her ecto is curvy in all the right places making her look very soft and cuddly. Sheâs a beautiful monster.
Pudding is a total babe. A very spunky kind and goofy skeleton who loves a bit of soft teasing and jokes. Sheâs one of the only papyrusâs who enjoys puns. She looks up a lot to taffy and is determined to live up to her sisters reputation although she has no talent for cooking. Sheâs a flirt, but panics when they flirt back. Sheâs very easily flustered. All bark no bite
Pudding works at her sisters candy shop as a cashier, stocker and taste tester. She has zero talent for cooking but an amazing taste palate so sheâs trusted to confirm if the new candies are any good. Pudding wants to become a professional food critic someday but needs to build up a reputation first in the culinary field.
Pudding, eager to follow her sister, also took adult classes to learn to form a magic weapon. Her weapon is a simple spear with a cute star shaped blade at the end. It has a crystalline look resembling many of the crystals in her collection
Puddings special ability is being able to melt. Literally. When flustered, her bones go soft making her squishy to the touch. She can do it on command too to fit into tight spaces, but the effect is very temporary making that dangerous
Things she loves: the color green, rock candies, cute crystal carvings, dance dance revolution and just dance games, cheesy pick up lines, orange sodas, cute headbands and bandanas, kpop and pop music, tulips, Mary Jane shoes.
And side characters!
Cookie: (flavortale alphys), cookie is an adorable orange lizfolk monster with dark brown magic and large eyes. Sheâs the best friend of taffy and co-owns the shop with her and her mate bonbon. They had gone to school together, invented many of their recipes together and even lived together for several years until she and bonbon got married. Now the besties are neighbors on the same street. Cookie is a shy but sweet monster with a love for chemistry and sugar. She is the big inventor along with taffy in their business
Bonbon: (flavortale undyne), the best friend of taffy and mate of cookie, bonbon is the third co owner of the candy shop. Sheâs a strong muscular river monster with tan scales and cute cream eyes and hair. The three things bonbon loves most in the world is her mate, chocolate and her friends of course. She has a head for numbers, handling the budget of the little candy shop, and doing her body building exercises in her free time. Sheâs a cheerful and bubbly monster.
Cheesecake: (flavortale Asgore). The youngest royal at only 300 years old, and a tad embarrassed by the nickname the press gave him when his adoration of cheesecake was discovered. Cheesecake is the newly appointed representative of the flavor monsters. His father, Mordac, had retired as soon as ebott was organized, and cheesecake was voted in over two other candidates. He handles food regulation issues mostly, as well as overviewing the methods of quality testing for ebott produce.
Meringue: (flavortale toriel), the aunt of cheesecake and appointed as the second representative long before mordac, her brother, retired. By seniority, meringue is now the first representative of the flavor monsters and works with sanitation standards of businesses. Sheâs a jolly playful royal and loves teasing her nephew.

If he has one driving goal in his film career, it's to participate in a project that leaves a lasting impression. "Ultimately what I'd like to do is leave behind a movie that's a piece of art," he says. "One movie out of however many I make that influences or has an impact or someone holds up in the future as a piece of art. That's the ultimate goal."
Chaos. Blackness. Then a pair of inconceivably blue eyes burst open, filling the screen. This is how most audiences were first introduced to Cillian Murphy three and a half years ago, when the Irish actor erupted onto the scene in the post-apocalyptic sleeper hit 28 Days Later. As Jim, a bike courier who awakens from a coma after London has been wiped out by a deadly infection, the largely unknown 24-year-old found himself as the lead in Danny Boyle's poetically terrifying film. As the audience surrogate, Murphy's face telegraphed all the confusion, innocence, and wonder we would expect of a hero-in-the-making who is realizing he might very well be the last man on earth.
After the success of 28 Days Later, a career in Hollywood films was inevitable. It's not just that Murphy looks as though his face were sculpted from marble, topped off by those aforementioned stunning eyes. As he showed in 28 Days Later and subsequent films such as Girl With a Pearl Earring and Intermission, he was a chameleonic performer, a character actor trapped in a leading man's bone structure. In 2005 he found himself starring in two blockbuster hits in which he played characters that couldn't be further from the well-intentioned Jim. As Dr. Jonathan Crane, aka Scarecrow, Murphy's silky smooth calmness was put to villainous use in Batman Begins. He followed that with a turn as Jackson Rippner, a mysterious stranger who traps hotel manager Lisa (Rachel McAdams) into an assassination plot in Wes Craven's Red Eye. While both films were unabashedly popcorn entertainment, each transcended its genre with stellar casting and sharp direction.
After these back-to-back successes, it seemed there was only one logical step for the newly minted star. So Murphy shaved his legs, plucked his eyebrows, and gamely jumped into the role of Patrick "Kitten" Braden, the transvestite orphan whose adventures with cabaret singing, prostitution, and the Irish Republican Army don't even begin to sum up the strange and delightful world of Neil Jordan's Breakfast on Pluto (opening in limited release Nov. 18). Written by Jordan and Patrick McCabe, on whose 1998 novel the film is based, Pluto is a loopy journey featuring Murphy in a bravura performance as the needy heroine who spends her life looking since he first auditioned for it four years ago. Jordan couldn't get the film financed at the time, but he never forgot Murphy--largely because the actor wouldn't let him. "I did a test with Cillian and several young Irish actors to see: Was the role even playable?" says Jordan. "Cillian was not well-known at all but gave a blistering performance. Problem was, after that he would never let it go. Every time we met, he'd ask, 'When do we start shooting?'"
Murphy got his wish in 2004, when Jordan got the money and jumped right into a 10-week shoot. It was sudden, but Murphy took it in stride.
Early Stages
In person Murphy speaks softly, his voice heavy with his native accent--one that has rarely been captured on film, as he frequently adopts English or American accents for roles. He speaks in simple, sparse terms of how he came to acting.Born and raised in Cork, Ireland, Murphy grew up on a diet of American TV and was interested in movies and music. At age 20 he was playing in a band, and he saw a play at the Corcadorca Theatre Company in his hometown. "I went up and knocked on the door of the theatre and said, 'Listen, if you have any parts in any plays coming up, let me know,'" he recalls. "And the guy said, 'There's this play called Disco Pigs. Come in for an audition.' I went in and got the part, and that was it, really."He may make landing the job sound easy, but anyone who saw the 2001 film adaptation of Disco Pigs can attest it was more than luck that got Murphy cast. As the violent and unpredictable Pig, pathologically devoted to his lifelong friend Runt, Murphy is a force of nature we can't take our eyes off of. Still, he admits that at times he felt out of his league. "I was going to go back to playing in a band; I was just acting as a laugh," he says. "But it didn't transpire like that. I don't think I realized it was a career until recently. But I don't enjoy anything as much as I enjoy acting. I never got a kick out of anything as much as I get out of acting when it's going well. You build up a real hunger for it."
For the next three years he worked in theatre, learning on the job while performing in such classics as The Seagull and Much Ado About Nothing. "I think that's the best place to learn as actor," he observes. "I consider it my training ground. I was very lucky to work with a lot of great directors and great plays. I went from smaller parts onstage to bigger parts onstage, then smaller parts in movies to bigger parts in movies. It was a very organic way to do it."
He landed his first agent, Richard Cook at The Lisa Richards Agency, when Cook saw him onstage in Disco Pigs; he remains with the agent to this day. Murphy has a Los Angeles agent, Darren Statt at United Talent Agency, whom he says "saw an audition tape I did for a movie and took me on based on that--which is actually quite unusual." He also has a London representative, Lou Coulson with The Lou Coulson Agency. As Murphy began landing various film and television roles, he had to adjust to auditioning regularly. "It took me awhile to realize auditioning is a different skill than acting," he says. "They're entirely unrelated skills. Just because you're a good actor, it doesn't mean you'll be good in a room with a director. I had to learn to audition."
It was the film version of Disco Pigs that caught Boyle's eye when he was casting for 28 Days Later. Surprisingly, Murphy's newcomer status worked in his favor. "We thought that it was more appropriate for the film that it should not be a star vehicle," says Boyle. "Rather, it should be a community of people we cast as equals." Boyle also felt Murphy displayed an innocent quality that would endear Jim to the audience. "The feeling of a child who is forced to become a man and, by the end of the film, be almost primal, I thought Cillian had that," Boyle reasons. Murphy rewarded his director's trust with a searing performance, taking Jim from wide-eyed youth to fierce protector in the space of 108 minutes. "I've been lucky to have support from great people like Danny," Murphy raves. "He let me carry 28 Days Later. But, ultimately, if you don't produce in the work, you won't get hired. You're only as good as your last job."
Armed with this knowledge, Murphy was selective about his projects after the success of 28 Days Later. "I'm aware of the system and how certain doors open when a film does well," he says. "A lot more people started taking meetings with me. And people began to pronounce my name correctly, that's always been a good yardstick for me." Although most people probably know by now, the correct pronunciation is "kill-ee-un."
Being Bad
Murphy claims he would have been perfectly happy to continue doing theatre the rest of his life; indeed, when he speaks of performing onstage, it's with a low-key but palpable passion. But he is also practical. "If there's an opportunity to do a good film with a good director, you've got to take it," he muses. "You'd be foolish not to. And if a bit of momentum builds up, you have to stick with it."
He has collaborated with some of the most prestigious directors working today, from Anthony Minghella in Cold Mountain to Ken Loach in the upcoming The Wind That Shakes the Barley. Yet he insists there's no deliberate strategy to his career. "I want to do different things and keep myself interested and keep improving," he remarks. "Wherever that takes me, I don't know. There's no plan--it's all out of your control anyway. The only thing I've ever insisted upon is diversity. Every role you take, you have to be afraid that you can't do it. Otherwise, there's no point in doing it." The primary factors that draw him to projects are the script and the director. "It's got to be a good script to start with," he says. "If it's a bad director, they can make the script mediocre pretty fast. But the combination of a good director and good script--that's the ultimate. And I can't believe how lucky I've been to have both."
When it came to auditioning for Batman Begins, Murphy didn't look at it as a blockbuster franchise that would raise his salary quote--he saw it as an opportunity to play a well-crafted character and work with director Christopher Nolan. "I would do any movie with Chris Nolan," he says. "It was a good script and a great part. I had so much fun." Nolan originally brought Murphy in to read for the role of Bruce Wayne/Batman. "I saw Cillian in 28 Days Later and was struck by the extraordinary intensity of his performance," says Nolan. "We tested him for Batman, and his presence just leapt off the screen. Everyone who saw it got very excited about the idea of casting him as Scarecrow. He has a fantastic ability to project interior passions with a power that can be by turns either chilling or seductive."
As Scarecrow, Murphy proved a hero is only as interesting as his nemesis, and his cool confidence was enthralling--just listen to the way he draws out "Batman" as two words in a cruel taunt. He brought that same dangerous appeal to Red Eye, a film in which his Rippner is more or less played as the romantic leading man--until he reveals he's a stone-cold killer. "I was very careful not to come at that character as the bad guy," he explains.
"He's been chosen for his job because he has access to this charisma and approachability. For him to be revealed too quickly would be pointless." Murphy also enjoyed being the heavy, a nice respite from saving the world in 28 Days Later. "It's fun to be the bad guy," he notes. "I thought it was a great role. Just because he turned out to be bad, it didn't represent any more or less fun than playing [Jim]. It's still a great range there to convey."Murphy also wants to make it clear that playing back-to-back villains was a fluke of distribution. "I did get very frustrated with the question, 'Why are you playing the bad guys this summer?'" he says. "I guess it's an easy in. I've made 10 feature films and played two bad guys. I think anyone who's seen the rest of my work will realize that's not what I specialize in at all."
Men Are From Pluto
If Murphy had any concerns about being pigeonholed, he certainly confounded expectations as Kitten in Breakfast on Pluto. "That role was a gift," he insists. "To work with Neil, who's a living legend--he's amazing." To prepare for the role, Murphy reread the book and talked extensively with McCabe, who was frequently on-set. "The book is a masterpiece but not always conducive to the screen, and the film has to be cinematic," Murphy notes. "I used a lot of the episodes in the book that aren't in the movie as my own research." Aware that the role was "completely transformative," he also spent a lot of time getting down Kitten's gestures and movements. "It's a long process," he says. "The physical side wasn't too hard; that's just grooming, really. The clothes and hair and eyebrows--anybody can do that. It was getting the voice and the walk and the physicality." Murphy went so far as to hit London nightclubs in drag. "It's important to do that. How much of it you use or not in the end is irrelevant," he says. "It's just important to have a reference point."
While the sight of Murphy in skirts and wigs is frequently funny, his sensitive and sweet portrayal elevates the film and engages the audience in Kitten's struggles. He is boosted by a top-notch supporting cast that includes Stephen Rea as a sad-eyed suitor, his Batman co-star Liam Neeson as a priest, and his 28 Days Later co-star Brendan Gleeson as a drunken theme-park character. It's a giddy, charming work Murphy aptly describes as "an unexpected fairy-tale disco fantasy."Murphy says he can talk about Pluto "until the cows come home," a bold statement considering that he confesses to an aversion to interviews. "I don't particularly like interviews or having my picture taken," he says, somewhat apologetically. "I don't mind it as a character, just not as myself. I don't like the perceived celebrity of it. I'm not about to become a personality or go on talk shows to entertain people as me, as Cillian." He points out he has never done a talk show in his life--mention Regis and Kelly and he pauses for a moment before replying, "I don't know who those people are."Of course, with his profile on the rise, Murphy admits he has given serious thought to how to maintain a healthy career without having his private life exposed to the world. He even discussed the topic with Batman co-star Christian Bale, whom he praises as "the best Batman" and a dedicated actor. "I actually asked his advice because you don't see him in the papers," says Murphy. "He pretty much told me, 'Don't behave like a celebrity, and you won't get treated like one.' I guess if you don't go out to a lot of parties and fall down, people don't take photographs of you."
Accent on Talent
Murphy recently wrapped Sunshine, a sci-fi adventure that reunites him with director Boyle in which he is once again saving the world-this time from a dying sun. Surprisingly--considering that Boyle gave the actor his biggest break--he still had to audition for the role. "I kind of wanted to," he says with a shrug. "That's what we do; we're actors. I don't understand this thing about actors who won't read for parts. I wanted to show him I could do it. I'm playing an American, and the movies hadn't come out yet where I'm American, so I think he wanted to see me do it." Murphy notes that early in his career he encountered resistance when auditioning for American roles. "They would hear me speak and say, 'Jesus, there's no way,'" he recalls. "But once you do it well, people accept it. And after a while it becomes second nature. That's why I think actors should never be limited by their background. This is what we do: We dress up and put on voices. So people should never be afraid to cast someone because of their accent."
Murphy isn't sure what he'll do next. He mentions taking a break, having worked steadily for the last few years. He'd also love to get back to theatre and tackle some of the great roles. Point out that a website erroneously reported that he has played Hamlet and he seems wistful. "No, I wish. I'd love to," he says. "I hope they said I did a good job." He also
acknowledges the differences between film and the stage. "Obviously, it's different vocally. If you're playing to an auditorium of 1,100 people, you've got to magnify the performance," he says. "For me, film acting is when you can see what the actor's thinking. Theatre acting, you've got to get up to the gods and let them know what's going on." Murphy doesn't mind returning to small theatres-he might even prefer it. "Disco Pigs was always in tiny little sweatboxes," he notes. "As the play got more popular and moved to bigger houses, I think it lost some of its allure. I remember doing Disco Pigs in its first incarnation and turning and getting sweat all over the front row. It was so visceral and dirty and sweaty. Then, when you start playing to bigger auditoriums, it's not as sexy."

Nutcracker Kids Grow Up
Terry Trucco has a lovely article in Playbill about three current NYCB dancers who performed in The Nutcracker as children.
The Polichinelles in 1985. Photo: Martha Swope --------------------------------------------------------------------------
A hallmark of George Balanchineâs The Nutcracker is its roster of 126 children, aged 7 to 13, in two alternating casts, who all study in the Childrenâs Division at the School of American Ballet (SAB), New York City Balletâs official school. A small percentage of those students will eventually move up to the Advanced Division at SAB, and at the end of their studies, a few will be invited to join NYCB, achieving the total Nutcracker experienceâreturning to Balanchineâs quintessential holiday ballet to perform as adults.
That storied third group includes former NYCB Principal Dancers Peter Boal, Jennie Somogyi, Gelsey Kirkland, and Judith Fugate, among others, as well as current corps de ballet members Shelby Mann, Mckenzie Bernardino Soares, and Rommie Tomasini, who each enrolled in SAB at the age of 6. Now coming back to the production as members of the corps de ballet, which they joined in 2022, they shared their fond memories of those formative years performing in George Balanchineâs The Nutcracker.
Shelby Mannâs earliest recollections of being in The Nutcracker are of playing jacks, a favored pre-show ritual for young cast members, and of her trailing hairpiece in the Party Scene. âMy memories of The Nutcracker are so heightened,â she says. âEvery time I smell hairspray, itâs like Iâm back in the lower concourse of the theatre during The Nutcracker.â
From her debut at age 7 in the Party Scene, Mann sprinted up the Nutcracker ladder, appearing as an Angel, a Polichinelle, a Mouse, and then, at the ripe age of 11, a Candy Cane. âWe would all look forward to The Nutcracker each year. It was what defined our childhood and our winter,â she says.
Born into a dance-world family in Harlemâher grandfather Jacques dâAmboise, grandmother Carolyn George, and uncle Christopher dâAmboise all danced with NYCB, and her parents are acclaimed Broadway performers Charlotte dâAmboise and Terrence MannâMann discovered her passion for dance through the iconic holiday ballet. âI loved that in rehearsals, because you were playing a character, you got to build your performance. Being in The Nutcracker made me realize that this is what I wanted to do.â
Since joining NYCB, Mann has danced Dolls, Snow, Hot Chocolate, and Flowers, and her affection for Balanchineâs two-act masterpieceâand the camaraderie that develops naturally among the cast, no matter what ageâremains undiminished. âI love how The Nutcracker connects to the holidays,â she says. âWe all decorate our dressing rooms, have Secret Santas, and bring cookies.â

During his childhood performances in The Nutcracker, Mckenzie Bernardino Soares made a point of watching the effervescent Hot Chocolate. âThe music, the spiceâI just loved it,â he says. âAnd I remember thinking, dancing this is all I want to do in my life.â
Fast forward to 2021. As a freshly minted NYCB apprentice, Soares landed his dream role and repeated it last year as a member of the corps de ballet. The verdict? âItâs always a fun time on stage, and you get to show your personality,â he says. âAnd if it gets a little repetitive sometimes, I just think, well, little Mckenzie would have loved to do this.â
Growing up in Danbury, Connecticut, Soaresâ Nutcracker experience was punctuated by long hours in the family car, driving 65 miles each way to rehearsals and performances. âBeing on stage made it all worth it,â he says. He also enjoyed supervising the younger dancers backstage during âthe gapâ when SAB students are too old for childrenâs parts, and he relished hearing advice from Company members backstage and in the wings. This season, Soares, who added Mouse King to his Nutcracker repertory last year, looks forward to using the roles he dances to expand his artistry. âItâs actually nice that the choreography is the same every day, so it becomes about what you bring to each performance,â he says.

Rommie Tomasini remembers begging her mother to let her audition for SAB, where her older sister was a student, and quickly discovering a love of dance. At age 7, she was cast as the Bunny in The Nutcracker. A season as a Mouse and a Polichinelle followed, and for two years, she was Marie. When the time came to begin pointe work, she decided that ballet was her future. âI didnât want to do anything else after school, and I thought, This is a done deal,â she says.
Her earliest Nutcracker memory dates from her first dress rehearsal. âI was the Bunny, and I remember looking at all the mouse heads on the Mouse Kingâs crown and being too terrified to pull his tail,â she recalls.
Yet looking back, Tomasini, who grew up on the Upper East Side, marvels at how confident she felt on stage as a child. âI was never nervous. I was just so happy to be out there. Iâm amazed at how much we learned about acting and artistry so young.â
Dolls, Snow, Hot Chocolate, and Tea are among the Nutcracker parts Tomasini has performed since she became an apprentice in 2021. But her recollections of being in a swarm of Nutcracker kids, scrutinizing the steps and making up versions of Hot Chocolate, Marzipan, and Coffee, remain vivid. âItâs mind-blowing that weâre now dancing the roles that we once pretended to do backstage,â she says.

Immersive Cinema Experience (ICE)
The "ICE" theatre by Indian Cinemas is a unique format that promises to provide an experience that cannot be duplicated at home and has debuted in Delhi. The success of many immersive film technologies in Indian theatres has been mixed. Can this be changed by ICE theatres?
What makes the ICE theatres unique?
A viewer's peripheral vision should be filled with colours and objects that correspond to those on the main screen in an ICE theatre. ICE, an abbreviation for Immersive Cinema Experience, uses LED panels on either side of the primary screen. These panels project forms and colours that are consistent with those visuals rather than continuing the action from the main screen. It employs standard 4K digital projection and supports both 2D and 3D viewing. The business intends to open ICE theatres in Mumbai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad, and Pune in 2023, according to a Top official.
ICE is the latest theatre technology to be adopted in India. The one that is closest to ICE is at Mumbai's InOrbit Mall, where a 270-degree cinema screen is located. This 270-degree-cinema combined with other show giants earlier this year. Selected movie scenes are allegedly shown across 270 degrees using 'proprietary' processing engines.. There are also other types of technologies , which has become somewhat of a norm for movie theatres and film production. The popular 4DX, MX4D, and D-Box technology formats also give seat haptics a realistic simulation of on-screen action with wind, water, or heat.
ICE theatres have had a mostly mixed response from viewers. Although many spectators said on social media that the ICE projection screens are more immersive whileothers disputed this claim.
Mumbai received a popular latest technology in the year 2001. To produce content exclusively for screens, the technologies are displayed in theatres with specialised projectors and screens, it has certified cameras. In contrast, ICE uses LED panels developed by a popular electronic giant on either side of a theatre's walls to fill the viewer's peripheral vision rather than projection and shooting technology. ICE relies on a 270-degree screen to provide a full field of vision, whereas 4DX and similar systems rock your chairs and create a unique experience.
The adventure-action film premiered in the first ICE theatre in France in December 2016, and the company now operates 52 theatres across the globe. However, similar theatre innovations have largely fallen flat in India.. Only one venue offers popular and renowned technologies -where experiences are few between. Viewers are staying away from theatres for several reasons, according to a November Mint study, which could harm the debut of ICE in India. Some reports say it is due to the pandemic while others say people have found their comfort in watching their favourite starsâ movies and series on the OTP platforms. For ICE to penetrate the market of cinema audiences should prefer going to the cinema hall to experience top-notch experience. Let us see what does the future of ICE is all about in India.

10. Faebloods
Due to strict licensing and traveling requirements of the empire, enforced by licensing businesses such as ConCorp, very few faebloods who live in human society grow up knowing their direct fae relatives.
11. Aksol Redavent
While Aksol is skilled in many arenas of runeworking, one of their particular interests is recreating major mechanical scripts as smaller, handheld devices.
12. The Little Sea Fae
The Little Sea Fae is a children's play meant to teach its audience about acceptance and charity for those less fortunate than themselves...so long as they adhere to the same social values.
13. Fennelâs Food Cart 2
Everything's better with Old Bay!
14. Aldwen
Aldwen is an old friend of Hestren's!
15. Act I, Scene xvii
The fifth episode of season two. This one does some of my favorite work of highlighting our ensemble characters and their inner workings.
16. Leona
Leona wears her same blue cloak on nearly every occasion and wears her hair in a long braid, due to not having had a haircut in years. She doesn't handle aesthetic changes easily.
17. Act I, Scene xiii
I'd originally imagined Dalyn and Aksol as having slightly combative personalities, but when it came to actually writing them together, I realized it's not so much that they don't get along, just that they tend to have very different interests and dispositions that do sometimes clash.
18. Act I, Scene v
Kio spends most of this episode more or less desperately wishing to get to know and have an excuse to be nice to the new girl, but costumers are so cliquey, it took them a while to find an excuse.
19. Act I, Scene xvi
The fourth episode of season two. We get a bit more insight into the costumers department in this one!
20. Brinny Brendle
Her full name is Brinda Brenton Brendle IV
21. Basil Ammond
Basil is one of the few people in the troupe with remotely any skill in dealing with children. Thankfully, that seems to translate well in handling theatre folk as well.
22. Kio Farmien
Kio has had crushes of some sort on both Leona and Fel, and may entirely possibly catch feelings for someone in season two as well.
23. Act I, Scene vi
Aksol's workshop has been one of my favorite sets to sound design, because of how abstract and yet alive it feels. Instead of being purely diegetic, this one sounds like how it feels to be there.
24. Hestren Bluegrave
Hestren's name was semi-recycled from a character in the last project I was playing with before Starfall - they were that world's version of a script designer, making fashionable equipment for an amateur sports team.
25. Edrienne Raybar
Raybar had difficulty finding a job she was well suited for in her homeland of Liborotes, with her tendency to pick at and try to improve out of date systems.
26. Gheren Raybar
Joining their aunt's acting troupe was not Gheren's first choice for an outing as a young adult, but their mother insisted it was safer than joining a trading company.
27. Vair Noverraut
Vair comes from a family of noted scripted weapon makers. Despite this, most of his dangerous creations are made dangerous entirely incidentally.
28. Duosoud
Duosoud...is a palindrome!
29. Fennelâs Food Cart 6
This could have been an email.
30. Stonder Truben
Stonder can speak, but he generally chooses not to, preferring to sign, write, or play random sound scripts at people.
31. Mint Cooper
Mint doesn't really know what she wants out of life, but she's beginning to suspect it's not any one thing she wants.
32. Act I, Scene iv
It really was reasonable for the troupe to not expect any fae activity in the woods that night - Gazbit is in the heart of Eriss, one of the safest states in the empire. Really, the fact they've had so many fae run-ins these past few months is...concerning...
33. Oliah âDotsâ Rosendots
While all the stagehands are good at any number of trades, Dots's specialty lies in woodworking and wagon repairs.
34. Keeper Archimond Brendle
The Keeper took his wife's name upon their marriage, as it had more weight with their community than his own.
Hello everyone, our show is in the last week of crowdfunding! We're sitting at around 25% of our total goal, and we're also halfway towards first goal of being able to pay our cast and also put out a D&D special.
Which means, to help keep our momentum going, it's time for another bribe!
So, for every reblog this post gets, I'll randomly pick an item from this list of 100 Starfall Topics (including characters, episodes, worldbuilding aspects) and share some trivia or fun facts about them!
Just keep the link moving and we'll keep the trivia flowing. Cheers!

Alright, thank you! Since requests are open, I'll just jump right into it đ Could I please get some headcanons with the THH girls dating a fem! reader who is the Ultimate Musical Theatre Actress? đ- newly minted đ¶ anon
I should be joining my online classes but I canât because of some error;; so I decided to write my requests instead! Hope you enjoy, đ¶ anon -Mod Kaede
THH Girls with a Musical Actress
Celestia Ludenberg
When you first told her your talent, she was really interested about it
Acting like someone you arenât... She wanted to talk about it more
Especially if youâve acted Drama Queen, youâre hers
Like she wanted to meet up so you could tell her more
She. Loves your talent.
Whenever she is bored, she watches your DVDs and it fixes her day
Your voice is like therapy to her and your acting is just a bonus!
Sheâs your biggest fan, never misses a rehearsal
Sometimes she helps you with acting too, you know how well she can stay in character
The part she most enjoys is the dancing part, she relieves her stress when dancing with you and you enjoy it too since itâs with her and you can hear her laugh
Also you better donât lie because she sees through your act-
Kyoko Kirigiri
âSo thatâs your talent... Fine, I guess,â
Donât let her uninterested behavior fool you
She may seem like she doesnât care at first but sheâll start to show interest in time
You notice how her behavior changes
Whenever she goes missing, she listens to your performances, which makes her feel more relieved and it clears her head
She likes to hear peopleâs thoughts about it and it makes her really proud about you, she also wants to compliment your talent but she is shy,,
Also she makes research so she knows it better than anyone, in an argument sheâll say stuff like âNo, it wasnât published in 2018, it was December of 2017â And now you know she wasnât really *uninterested*
If youâre doubting your talent sheâll tell you sweet things about you and encourage you, but wonât do it if you donât need them because Kyoko is the CEO of hiding emotions
Likes to attend your rehearsals and has a proud cocky smile the whole time
Makoto is like, âThis your girl?â
âYeah, she is,â sjrzjrjfdjcmrmgjcmxje
Sayaka Maizono
When you first told her that she screamed of happiness
Power couple, power couple!!!
Really, you two are known as power couple and nobody is denying that
No need to deny!! Itâs clear as day
Omg where do I even start
Both of you enjoy each otherâs company a lot and itâs not only about talent
You got a life partner
She helps you with anything!! Sheâs so experienced with singing (duh) and willing to help you with your acting if she can
Though she burst into laughs when acting but she tries to stay in character, she can be serious as well
She never misses your rehearsals and shows, example of a good girlfriend (although there are days she has to miss, but she tries to make it in time!)
Also sheâs the first one to start clapping and you can always hear her cheering for you from the crowd
Just like Kyoko she researched about you and your works and she wants your signature
She memorizes your roles and watching them when sheâs bored is a thing now
Whenever sheâs getting praises by anyone she points at you and says youâre the reason sheâs this good
Definitely not showing you off
Asahina Aoi
When you first told her your talent she was so hyped about it!
Show her some of your performances, she absolutely loves it
Her first thoughts were you are pretty great and your voice is just a gift for your talent
She loves to watch your performances after training and it inspires her?? She gets motivated after it
She doesnât know much about it but thinks you are really hardworking and passionate for not giving up on your dreams
Forgets her lines a lot and canât stay in character for too long because she gets distracted or burst into laughs when helping you, but she is trying
Sometimes she might miss your rehearsals because she also has a career, but she makes in time most of the time
âSorry, I was late, I got distracted by the donut shop nearby. Do you want some of them, Y/n?â
She is the type that will brag about you. Good luck listening to her, Sakura
Thereâs a chance she might forget she watched this performance so she just rewatches again
Sakura Ogami
As soon as she saw you she knew you were the one
She likes how passionate you are and amazed that you can still keep up with her although you are busy most of the time
She tells you itâs not needed but you donât leave her alone anyway, and she is grateful
Sometimes you overwork yourself and she looks out after you and never misses a rehearsal to make sure you are safe and sound
Sometimes people think sheâs your guard and not your girlfriend- you waste no time to tell them she is your girlfriend
But she is okay with being your guard, too, she is up to protect her girlfriend
I hc you try to get her sing along but she thinks her voice is too deep so she sadly doesnât, but if you insist on it too much she might give it a shot
Compliment her about it and sheâll get embarrassed and happy and will thank you đ„ș
She prefers to listen to your voice instead, itâs really pretty and calms her down
Sheâs really patient with you and if you are ever doubting yourself, will say the nicest things about you
Toko Fukawa
When you first told her abt it her inferiority complex said hello
And thought you were gonna making fun of her
âWhat?! W-what do you want with me if y-youâre this famous and a-amazing?!â
Good looks, a pretty voice and acting skills,, why are you EVEN involved with her in the first place?
Seriously, she first thought you only stayed with her because you pitied her.
Please reassure her itâs not true and youâre with her because she means so much to you
She degrades herself anytime you sing, thinking youâre gonna dump her for someone that is more talented. Sometimes thinks your love is just acting, too,, though she knows she wouldnât feel this loved if it was fake
Sheâs probably jealous of your fans and doesnât want them so near around youâsheâs afraid youâll think theyâre better than her!
Sometimes she hisses at fans and when you are alone sheâll yell at you for letting them this near you. She doesnât want you to feel tripped but sheâs just jealousâyouâre just so good for her.
You usually shut her up with a kiss and tell her she is the only one for you
Mukuro Ikusaba
If youâve watched the *scene* Iâm talking about, you probably know Mukuro has a pretty voice
After finding out youâre a musical theatre actress, she was impressed!
Sometimes she sings along just to have some fun, but usually insecure about her voice
She memorizes all of your performances and sings them when youâre not around!
Due to her talent, sheâs often busy so she sometimes misses your rehearsals, so she just watches the DVDs!
Sheâs like your guard, always looking out for you and making sure youâre safe and sound
She is quite jealous of you, you might need to reassure her that you love her the way she is and encourage her to sing with you!
Sheâs 100% the type that will send death glares to your fans
She steals your phone and blocks them from your social media accs if theyâre going too far with complimenting you
So you just open your blocked users list and unblock them because itâs very rude. The whole time sheâll sit there blushed and wonât say a word but âsorryâ
This is finally done! Also Iâm not sure if you wanted me to write for Junko, so i didnât. I hope thatâs okay! I only write for her if she gets therapy and becomes healthy ajrmfksjcrnjd anyway, hope u enjoy this!!! -Mod Kaede

Forever. That's how long it had been. Forever since you got to smother yourself in your friends presence. To sit next to them in the car, piled on top of eachother. To split a plate of fries. To grab at the stary pieces of lint in your friends hair. Tiny pieces of friendship that you had missed more than you knew how to.
Getting drunk was also something that you had missed. Or rather getting drunk outside of your own house. You had spent the entire night out. Going from the diner, to the club, to another club and eventually here. Walgreens. The sun was threatening to come over the horizon. You guys needed reinforcements.
Iwaizumi pulls the car to a stop. Your friend puts their hand on your back, pushing you out of the car. You stand with the door open, everyone throwing their orders out. Your friends ask for vitamin water, an assortment of snacks, and of course some ibuprofen for when you all eventually went to sleep. Oikawa demands a pack of mints as well.
Iwaizumi follows you to the store doors. The bright fluorescents burn at the brim of your eyes. You crinkle your nose in dissatisfaction. But you luck out, besides the two of you, the store is completely empty. You fall into the usual banter. A snide remark about the poor choice of music on the store speakers. You laugh at a terribly made display, feeling bad for whatever employee had to put it together.
âI feel so fucking grossâ
Iwaizumi says. You're in the candy aisle trying to find that brand your friend likes. You give him an expression somewhere between confused and playful. Not quite sure what has prompted him to say such a thing.
âWhat?âÂ
He gestures to himself, a bit exasperated.
âI am covered in sweat, Iâm pretty sure some of Oikawa's throw up is in my hair-â
âEw,â
You laugh, cutting off his annoyed speech about his hygiene. He does look a bit uncomfortable though. He continues with his tangent.
âWe went to two clubs, one club is enough by the way. Do you know how many people I have on me?â
âWhat, like in spirit?â
You ask in a teasing tone.
âNo, in sweat, dead skin cells, spilled drink and hair.â
You give him another glance. He is in rough shape, disheveled.
âHere, follow meâ
You take him to the shampoos, hairbrushes and scrunchies. He watches as your eyes dart between the products looking for something. Then your hand grabs a bottle, he doesn't know what. You go another aisle over, his sneakers behind you in pursuit. You snatch a few more things off shelves. You're headed to the front of the store when you turn to him.
âGo wait in the bathroom, I'll be there in a secondâ
You say it so casually, like it means nothing. He feels a quick warmth spread across his face, his voice hitch up just the slightest.
âWhat?â
Your back is already to him, walking away. He keeps his gaze on you, only briefly. Iwaizumi runs a hand across his face but pulls it back in disgust when he feels the film of grime on him. He weaves through the aisles. Then he spots the bathroom sign in the back, by the pharmacy. His hand lingers over the door knob. Heâs not sure if heâll be able to keep his cool around you in such proximity.
But he goes in. Because you told him to. And because he's fairly certain he heard your footsteps on the cold aluminum tile. The door has barely shut behind him when you open it. A gust of air crashing into him. You dig into the plastic bag, tossing him a pack of toothbrushes.
âOpen thatâ
He does as heâs told. Hands trembling just a bit. You get out a mini tube of toothpaste, taking the seal off. He feels relieved in a way, that you two are just going to brush your teeth in here. Iwaizumi holds out the toothbrushes as you swab the paste on.
You attempt to ask him something, the bubbling foam in your mouth getting in the way. You see the way his eyes crinkle in a smile and give him a bit of a shove. There is the faint hum of the store's music. It's distant, and as you spit into the sink you ask him what song it is. But he doesn't know either.
Heâs washing away the mess in the sink bowl when you order him to sit down. You shut the seat with the bottom of your shoe.
âOn the toilet?â
Iwaizumi says with a shocked tone. You roll your eyes and twirl your head to face him.
âIf you don't sit there, then I have to sit on the sink. You're too tallâ
He grabs a paper towel and wipes off the sink for you. You observe him, entertained. Iwaizumi moves out of the way, motioning for you to take your place. You hop onto the sink, the walgreens bag still on your wrist. Your hand digs around until you find the bottle of dry shampoo.
The rattling sound of the can as you shake it. The flicker of the soft bright light from above the sink. It has Iwaizumi mesmerized.
Neither of you speak as you put your hand on his shoulder, pulling him down to your height. He doesn't have to lean over far, but still he leans. You mist his hair with product. Watching as the white powdery substance falls over him like snowflakes. The silence is chilling. You feel every inch of the quiet, it's in your fingertips as you massage the dry shampoo into his hair, it's in the way he follows your hand, it's in the pit of your stomach as it starts to melt with nerves.
You curl a strand of his hair around your finger. You don't need to. You run your hand through all his hair one more time before reaching back into the bag. Iwaizumi pulls the plastic loops off your wrist, holding it up for you. You mutter a soft thank you.
The crinkle of the face wipe package is the loudest sound you have ever heard. It pains you to hear it cut across the hush of the room. You grab one of the rose scented cloths, bringing it up to his cheekbones. Brushing it along the lines of his face. You pretend to not see how intensely he is focused on you. Your hand shakes as you fold the cloth over and bring it down onto his jaw, under his chin.
You have to turn away. Tossing the wipe aside, grabbing a new one. When you go to face him again you lock eyes. Both of you stare openly. Examining each other like you would be getting tested on the others facial structure. Biting the inside of your cheek, you stroke along the bridge of his nose, careful not to get the cloth in his eyes. As you brush along his eyebrows your hand steadies, and he closes his eyes. Â
There isn't anything in your hand as your fingers press into his eyebrows. Brushing the little hairs back with a gentle touch. When you stop his expression is pleading, like he is trying to ask why you stopped. But there is one more item in the bag.
âThis is my favorite chapstick, I swear it works the bestâ
Iwaizumi is locked onto your thumb as it twists the cap off. All he can do is nod in response. It is daring actually, how you swipe the chapstick to his bottom lip and then his top lip. To then just hop down off the sink, brush off your legs and swing open the door.
He follows you in a trance. Dazed by what has transpired between you. His hands are behind his back, holding onto the door knob. Seemingly trying to keep the two of you in the previous moment. Not wanting to leave behind or forget the absolute magnitude of emotions.
You are a few steps ahead. Waiting for him, he's standing at the door, looking down, not moving. There was a shift. Before it felt like you and Iwaizumi had been in the store together. Now it felt like everything else was just around you and Hajime. You had entered a new orbit, a gravitational pull emitting from Iwaizumi.
He regains his composure. Giving you a smile and saying,
âWeâre lucky that it wasn't terribly disgusting in thereâ
You laugh and it breaks up the tension. You're about to throw a retort at Iwaizumi when another voice cuts in.
âThere you guys are! It's been like twenty minutes, what have you been doing?â
It's Oikawa. You jump at the appearance of his company. When he sees that Iwaizumi is at the bathroom door he shakes his head.
âDid it take you twenty minutes to shit or were you two fucking in the bathroom?â
Heâs trying to be funny, like how he always is. But the glance you share with Iwaizumi and the moment of hesitation before either of you say anything is enough. It's enough to have him embarrass the two of you in front of the cashier, finally purchasing the snacks. Oikawa is giving a full on theatre performance, with his never ending stream of teasing and questions.
Oikawa is all too excited when you get back in the car and join your other friends. Tumbling over words because heâs talking too fast trying to explain what he saw. Iwaizumi pulling out the toothbrush and toothpaste, trying to defend himself. Oikawa asks why it took twenty minutes to brush his teeth then and Iwaizumi can only insult him.
You giggle in hushed whispers in the back seat of the car. Your friends' limbs draping over each other as they try to hear every ounce of your story. Your body still feels as if it's been hooked to jumper cables, your skin crawls with nervous thrill from just recounting what happened.
Iwaizumi is driving. At each red light he looks back at you. Admiring the way you are huddled with your friends. Oikawa is still teasing him, not believing that nothing had occurred. Iwaizumi isn't really listening though. He can't remember the name of the song. The one you asked about, and so so desperately he wants to know.
