Portuguese red candle tradition
alright here it is, fizzâs Christmas present this is based on the hallmark movie âthe most wonderful time of the yearâ which is on YouTube and you should all watch it.
______ ship: ralbert genre: idiots warnings: fake trees and mild scream sesh words: 2077 woooweee editing: nope scope rope ______
Albert Dasilva did not like dogs. Ever since his uncleâs dog had tried to bite off his thumb in the third grade heâd been deathly afraid of them. And yet, here he was, running a dog walking business.
But what he hated even more were cats.
They were just inexplicably evil. How was it that virtually every human being on the planet went all uwu whenever they saw a cat? Albert just didn't trust them. They were definitely in charge of the illuminati. Actually, Albert had made a video on that very topic on his youtube channel last year that had over 1.4 million views. It was his biggest accomplishment to date.
But weâre getting off topic here. Whatâs really important is that Albert hates cats.
So how was it that he found himself walking three of them?
Yes, you read that right. Walking not one, not two, but three whole cats. Through his dog walking business, which annoyed him to no end because it was clearly a dog walking business, not a cat walking business and plus there was the question of who the hell would pay someone to walk their cats? And it was also blizzarding. But he was a broke 24 year old living out of his van and cash was cash so he put himself through the torture of walking three yowling cats.
Finally, 2 whole hours later - which was an hour longer than it took to walk dogs, curse these stupid cats - he was trudging up to the fancy suburban upper middle class house to deposit the ferocious beasts and then go freeze in his van.
The door opened, revealing the semi attractive cat owner himself - he would have been actually attractive had it not been for the fact that he not only owned three cats but also paid Albert to walk them. Oh, he had a name. It was something strange. Tack? Ruce? No. Oh yes, Race.
âMy furry babies!â Race squealed as bend down to embrace his cats. Rather anticlimactically, two of them ran right past Race into the house. The third tripped climbing through the front door, giving Race just enough time to scoop him up and pet him. Sorta like Cruella Da Ville. Exept with a cat.
âThanks for walking them,â Race said, smiling as he shifted the cat to hand Al an envelope with his pay in it.
âYeah you're welcome,â Al said, accepting the envelope.
âYou got someplace warm to stay?â Race asked somewhat awkwardly.
Albert gestured to his van that was parked at the end of the driveway. âYouâre looking at it.â
Raceâs eyes widened and he nearly dropped his cat. âYou live out of a van?â
Albert rolled his eyes, all but ready to throw a fat, wet snowball into Mr. McPrissyâs face. âI do. Itâs easier than a house cause I just kinda come and go as I please.â
âYou- you what?â Race stuttered. âI canât believe in a car you're gonna freeze to death. And then whos gonna walk my cats! No one else is dumb enough to do such a job.â
Albert had had just about enough of this asshole and his dumb cats. âListen. Not all of us are satisfied by being business executives-â
âNurses.â
â-okay? Iâve been traveling around the country in that van since the night of my high school graduation doing weird things and meeting all sorts of cool people - except you, you're an asshole - and Iâve spent much colder winters than this in Minnesota in that van. I think Iâll be okay.â And with that he began to stomp down the snowy steps back to his van.
âWhy don't you stay here tonight?â
Albert froze in his place and turned dramatically to look over his shoulder. âWhat?â
âI said, why don't you stay here tonight?â Race repeated. His arms were crossed and the wind was blowing his blonde locks into this hard set blue eyes. He definitely looked pretty, er, meant business.
Still, Albert retaliated. What an idiot.
âDid you not hear me? Winters in Minnesota.â
âI heard you,â Race said firmly. âAnd Iâm not asking you to move in with me. Just spend the night someplace warm. I don't want you to get hypothermia, I can tell you from personal experience that itâs not fun.â
Albert sighed. He really wanted to say no, he really did. He didn't want to be anywhere near that weirdo or his cats anytime soon. But the prospect of an actual bed and a warm house was too inviting. Begrudgingly, he trudged back up the steps, uttering a small âthank youâ before stepping inside.
And almost throwing up at the accursed sight before him.
âYou have a fake silver christmas tree?â
âDoesnât everyone?â Race said, pulling the door shut behind him.
âNo?â Albert stared at his new host in disbelief. âPeople actually buy real trees. With needles. And sap. Youâre not doing Christmas right.â
âHow dare you mosey into my house and tell me Iâm not doing Christmas right.â Race scoffed, crossing his arms. One of his cats mewed menacingly behind him. Truly it was nice touch.
âWell youâre not!â Albert exclaimed, throwing his hands up. âLook if Iâm going to stay here, youâre going to have a real tree.â
Race looked skeptical.
Albert rolled his eyes, mimicking Raceâs annoyed stance. âThink of it as a Christmas present. It is just a few days away.â
Race sighed loudly, looking up at the ceiling. âFine,â he mumbled.
Despite himself, Albert smiled.
âAnd where might I get a âreal Christmas tree,â O Great And Powerful Christmas Tree Lord?â
âAt a tree lot,â Albert said. âD u h.â
âWell Iâm not exactly an official Christmas tree connoisseur,â Race said, reaching for his coat. âI assume weâre going now?â
âOf course. I refuse to spend one more minute in this house with that - that thing.â Albert said playfully.
âOh shut up itâs not that bad. My grandmother used to have a pink one,â Race said, grabbing his keys.
Albert shuddered. âGood thing I wonât be meeting her.â
âSheâs dead.â
Albert flung open the front door dramatically. âEven better.â
Race groaned loudly as he pulled the door shut and locked it, causing the giant wreath on the front door to fall to the ground with a small oof.
âRace,â Albert said disappointedly, âthe wreath is too big.â
âNo,â Race countered, picking it up, âthe hook is too small.â
âSo he a bigger hook.â
âI donât have one.â
âSo buy a smaller wreath.â
âI like this one.â
âYou are so difficult I wish I had just slept in my car!â
âYeah well youâre not exactly pleasant either, coming in here telling me that Iâm doing Christmas âwrongâ!â
âWho buys a fake silver tree?!â
âI do!!â
âIt's not even green!â
âSo?â
âSo-itâs,â Albert began, but stopped suddenly. There was something about the determination set on Raceâs face that made him want to kiss the shit out of him.
Albert you son of a bitch. You could have gotten the hots for anyone and you choose the guy who has three cats and a silver Christmas tree?
âExcuse me, Race, sorry to interrupt.â
Albert pulled himself out of his romantic exploits that may or may not have involved him and Race making out under the fake silver tree to see that another man had joined them on the porch, seemingly out of thin air.
âHi Romeo,â Race said tightly.
âI just happened to notice that you havenât put up your Christmas lights yet, and you know weâre goin for the whole street this year. Nothing fancy just white lights - only white.â He gave Race a pointed stare. âYou donât wanna be-â
â-the only dark house on Christmas Eve,â Race finished exasperatedly. âI know.â
âSo youâll get on it?â Romeo asked, seemingly oblivious to Raceâs disinterest.
âYes Iâll get on it, now if youâll excuse me I really have to go run some errands.â
This time, Romeo seemed to get the hint and he scurried off back to his house next door - ah so he was a neighbor, that made more sense.
Albert turned to Race. âChange of plans,â he announced. âYouâre getting the tree by yourself.â
Race eyed him skeptically. âWhy?â
âBecause Iâm going to put up your lights. That neighbor sounded pissed.â
Race rolled his eyes. âYouâre a dog walker, youâre hardly qualified.â
âAnd youâre a business executive.â
âNurse!!â
âSame difference!â Albert groaned. âAnd besides, Iâve done all sorts of odd jobs, I was a handyman a few years back in Colorado. I know my way around a ladder.â
âWell,â Race saw that there was no way of getting out of this argument, âif you insist.â
âOh I do insist. And I got a little something special to keep your neighbor away,â Albert winked mischievously.
âAlright, whatever,â Race waved him off. âJust donât get me sued. And what kind of tree do I buy?â
âA big one, we need a thick stick!â Albert called over his shoulder as he headed over to the garage. With any bit of luck, this plan should work.
â˘â˘â˘
By the time Race got back with the tree, Albert had just finished stringing up the lights so he decided to flex on his host - literally and figuratively - by bringing the tree inside and setting it up. The three cats - whom he had learned were named Steve, Peter, and Tony after Raceâs favorite Marvel characters -mewed at it suspiciously before going to do their cat related activities, like take over the world.
They had just began to put the ornaments on, laughing and having a grand time singing along to crappy pop Christmas songs, when the doorbell rang.
Race set down the glass ball he was holding and went to answer the door. âIâll be right back, do not munch that.â
Albert looked at him quizzically.
âI donât know man, you just seem like the kind of person who would.â Then he left, leaving Albert to question his mental well-being.
However, all of that was abandoned when he heard the shrill voice of Raceâs neighbor and he ran to the door to watch his plan unfold.
âRace,â Romeo was saying, âcome here I need to show you something.â
Albert watched from the door as Romeo pulled Race out into the lawn and pointed up at the one red bulb he had put in the strand of white lights and couldnât help but laugh.
âItâs red.â Romeo said, holding out his palm. âI brought you a white one, if you want it.â
âNo actually,â Albert said, stepping out of the house. âWe did that on purpose. See thereâs this thing where I come from called the Portuguese Red Candle Tradition - very old and sacred tradition - where you put out one red candle, or light, to keep away the dark spirits. Itâs said to bring good luck.â
Romeo stood open mouthed.
âI have one inside if you want it.â
Romeo shook his head.
âGreat, well then if you donât mind Race and I have a tree to finish decorating. Ta ta,â he said, pulling Race inside and shutting the door, hearing the oof of the wreath falling off the door once again.
Race stood with his arms crossed. âThereâs no such thing as the Portuguese Red Candle Tradition, is there?â
Albert fidgeted. âNo.â
âAnd you know by putting that one red bulb there youâre going to drive him absolutely nuts right?â
âI had the general idea, yes.â
âAnd you know that heâs gonna drive me insane about fixing it right?â
âWell-â
âIs that why you do you just waltz into peoples houses and make their lives more difficult?â
âI didnât do anything I was trying to help!â
âOh like you were with the tree?â
âHey, everyone deserves to have a good tree!â
âMy tree was perfectly fine!â
âIt was made of plastic!â
âPerfectly nice plastic!â
âYeah well your tree can go to hell!â
âYou know who else can go to hell?â
âLemme guess, me?!â
âExactly!!â
And then Raceâs lips were pressed into his.
Albert had to admit, it wasnât the most romantic kiss ever, what with the satanic cats mewing in the background and the ugly silver tree in pieces on the floor, but maybe, just maybe, it was a good idea that he didnât freeze to death in his van that night.

How do I know if my house has lead pipes?
A drain is a pipe that serves only one building, conveying water and waste water away to a sewer. Sewers (sewerage), are the underground networks of pipes that carry sewage (waste water and excrement), waste water and surface water run-off, from drains to treatment facilities or disposal points.
In a lot of the older gravity flow systems as well as a few of the earlier pumped heating systems the radiator's circulation and also return pipelines were connected to a 'solitary pipeline' circuit.

Roman roofings used lead in conduits as well as drainpipe pipelines as well as some were additionally covered with lead.
You can install brand-new copper pipelines for $3 to $8 per straight foot, or $0.40 to $0.50 per straight foot for PEX tube. It is rather usual to leave the old pipes in place after detaching them. The brand-new pipe is simply mounted in the path of least resistance. Relying on the design of your house, the pipe can be mounted in the attic or under a crawl area.

Galvanized steel water distribution pipelines were used virtually specifically in Minnesota homes up till concerning 1950, when copper tubes started to replace galvanized pipelines. Copper slowly replaced galvanized piping throughout the 1950's, and was about the only point utilized for pipes in residences by 1960.
What happens if I do not want to replace my lead plumbing?

86 years later, a dark day in Kansas City remembered
Union Station | FBI Records
KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Monday marks 86 years since mobsters gunned down and killed four law enforcement officers and a criminal fugitive at Union Station railroad depot. It was the morning of June 17, 1933.
The killings of four peace officers and the prisoner has gone down in history as the âKansas City Massacre.â The mass shooting led to a major FBI policy change: agents began carrying firearms.
Back then a new house cost around $5,750. A loaf of bread cost 7 cents. Construction of the San Franciscoâs Golden Gate Bridge started in January. The prohibition era would officially end by December. Gangsters, including Al Capone, controlled speakeasies and bootlegging operations, making millions in underground operations. Physicist Albert Einstein renounced his German citizenship that year and moved to the United States to become a professor of theoretical physics at Princeton. The world was on the brink of major changes, with Adolf Hitler appointed as Chancellor of Germany in January and Franklin D. Roosevelt inaugurated as the president of the United States in March.
The Kansas City Massacre started with an attempt by a gang led by Vernon Miller to free Frank âJellyâ Nash, a federal prisoner with a crime history spanning decades. On that dark day, Nash was in custody and was being returned to the U.S. Penitentiary at Leavenworth, Kansas. Nash had escaped from prison three years earlier.
Frank âNellyâ Nash
Nash is thought to have participated in some 200 bank robberies. He was born on February 6, 1887 in Birdseye, Indiana. Â His father, John âPappyâ Nash, started hotels in several southern towns â giving Nash multiple stomping grounds. Nashâs mother, Alta, was Johnâs second wife. Nash had two sisters and two stepbrothers. Â After living in dozens of places across several states, Nash treated Hobart, Oklahoma as his hometown.
Frank Nash | FBI Records
Several mobsters considered Nash as a mastermind. He had connections with gangs across America. Past documents describe him as charismatic, friendly, likeable, and charming. His nickname, âJellyâ was shortened from âJellybean.â He earned the name in childhood for his poise and well-groomed appearance. He was a career criminal who knew how to get what he wanted out of people, whether the law or fellow criminals.
Back in 1913, Nash and a friend, Nollie âHumpyâ Wortman stole nearly $1,000 from a store in Sapulpa, Oklahoma. Adjusted for inflation, that would be over $18 thousand dollars today. While on the run, Nash told Wortman they needed to hide the evidence fast. As Wortman went to bury the wealth, Nash betrayed him and shot him in the back.
Police arrested Nash hours later. The court found him guilty of murder and sentenced him to life in the Oklahoma State Penitentiary. Five years later, Nash found a way to reduce his sentence to ten years. He convinced the warden he would join the army and fight in World War I. His life of crime didnât stop there.
After years of going in and out of prison, he landed in the United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth in Kansas along with three members of the Spencer Gang. They received a 25 year sentence for mail robbery and assaulting a mail custodian. That was in March 1924. In 1930, Nash was appointed the deputy wardenâs chef and general handyman; the jobs came with special privileges. He escaped on October 19, 1930, when he left the prison on an errand and never returned.
The FBI launched an aggressive search for Nash throughout the United States and most of Canada. The FBI discovered Nash assisted in the escape of seven prisoners from the United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth, on December 11, 1931.
FBI agents also found out that Nash had close friendships with Francis L. Keating, Thomas Holden, and several other gunmen involved in Midwest bank robberies. The more the FBI uncovered Nashâs underground connections, the more they wanted him in their custody.
FBI agents captured Keating and Holden on July 7, 1932 in Kansas City, Missouri. The pair told agents Nash was hiding out in Hot Springs, Arkansas, a hotbed of gangster activity. Illegal gambling spread like wildfire in Hot Springs following the Civil War, with two main factions: the Flynns and the Dorans. They fought one another throughout the 1880s for control of the central Arkansas town.
By 1933, the Arkansas city was considered a national gambling mecca, led by Owney Madden and his Hotel Arkansas casino. From 1927-1947, gambling and debauchery reached a pinnacle: there were ten major casinos and numerous smaller house spinoffs. It was the largest operation of its kind in the United States at the time. Hotels advertised rooms for prostitutes and off-track booking for horse races. At the time, it seemed like nothing could stop the operation; a former sheriff attempted to have Arkansasâ anti-gambling laws enforced and to secure honest elections â he was murdered in 1937.
Law enforcement apprehended Frank âJellyâ Nash at a Hot Springs store on June 16, 1933. FBI agents Joe Lackey and Frank Smith accompanied with Otto Reed, the Police Chief of McAlester, Oklahoma drove Nash north to Fort Smith, Arkansas. All four would board a train for Kansas City that night.
The Missouri Pacific trainâs ETA was 7:15a.m. the following day. The lawmen made arrangements to meet at Union Station with Reed E. Vetterli, the special agent in charge of the FBIâs Kansas City Office.

Outlaws Plan Scheme
Word spread fast of the capture, and outlaws were upset one of their most dangerous masterminds had been captured. Out of allegiance to him, Nashâs cronies figured out the time he would arrive in Kansas City. They planned to liberate him, but Nash would be killed in the massacre.
Vernon Miller was the scheme ringleader. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I and was an experienced machine gunner. When he returned from the war, he went to his hometown Huron, South Dakota where he was elected as a policeman in 1920. Two years later, he was elected sheriff and was re-nominated for the position. But he got bored of serving. He disappeared before the election â and quickly became baptized into a life of crime.
In 1931, Miller moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and Chicago where he proved himself as a gunner and began associating with gangs.
Before the night of the Kansas City Massacre, Miller used a phone at Mulloyâs Tavern, a historic mob location in KC, to plan out his scheme to free Nash.
FBI reports find Charles âPretty Boyâ Floyd and his sidekick, Adam Richetti, arrived in Kansas City to aid in the mission. Their travels to the city were anything but smooth. The pair had been detained in Bolivar, Missouri on the morning of the 16th. They needed car repairs, and while waiting at a local garage, Sheriff Jack Killingsworth appeared. Richetti recognized the sheriff and mugged him, seizing a machine gun. Richetti and Floyd held the sheriff and garage attendants at gunpoint. On the criminalsâ orders, no one moved.
Floyd and Richetti then transferred their arsenal into another vehicle and ordered the sheriff to enter that vehicle, taking him as a hostage.
The two, along with their prisoner, drove north to Deepwater, Missouri. The cronies abandoned the stolen automobile and stole a new one. (Deepwater is about 85 miles southeast of Kansas City.)
After releasing the sheriff, Floyd and Richetti arrived in Kansas City about 10:00Â p.m. on June 16.
That night Floyd and Richetti rolled their dice yet again and abandoned their automobile and stole another vehicle. Later they met Miller and went to his home⌠to be briefed on the mission and drink some beer.
Early the next morning, according to the FBI account, Miller, Floyd, and Richetti drove to Union Station in a Chevrolet Sedan. There they waited for Nash and his captors to arrive â and 30 pivotal seconds would go down in history.
Kansas City Massacre
Upon the arrival of the train in Kansas City, Agent Joseph Lackey went to the loading platform, leaving behind FBI Agent Frank Smith, Oklahoma Police Chief Otto Reed, and Frank âJellyâ Nash in a train stateroom.
On the platform, Lackey was met by Special Agent in Charge Reed Vetterli, FBI Agent Raymond J. Caffrey, and detectives W. J. Grooms and Frank Hermanson of the Kansas City Police Department. The lawmen surveyed Union Station and saw nothing suspicious.
SAC Vetterli told Agent Lackey that he and Agent Caffrey had brought two cars to Union Station for taking Nash back to the prison in Leavenworth.
Agent Lackey then returned to the train accompanied by Chief Reed, SAC Vetterli, Agents Caffrey and Smith, and Officers Hermanson and Grooms. They proceeded from the train through the Union Station lobby.
Both Agent Lackey and Chief Reed carried shotguns with them. Other officers carried pistols. SAC Vetterli is said to have been unarmed. Frank Nash, while in handcuffs, walked through Union Station with seven lawmen.
After leaving Union Station, the team with their captive paused briefly to survey the area a second time. Again, they saw nothing unusual.
Mass Shooting
Agent Caffrey unlocked his Chevroletâs right door. When the door opened, Nash started to get into the back seat, but Agent Lackey told Nash to get into the front. The vehicle was a two-door sedan, and entering the back seat required pushing the back of the front seat forward.
Agent Lackey climbed into the back directly behind the driverâs seat. Agent Smith sat beside him in the center, and Chief Reed sat beside Smith⌠and behind Nash.
Agent Caffrey walked around the car to the driverâs seat on the left side. SAC Vetterli stood with Officers Hermanson and Grooms at the right side near the front of the car.
A green Plymouth was parked about six feet away. Agent Lackey saw two armed men run from behind it. At least one of them carried a machine gun.
From a distance approximately 15 feet diagonally to the right of Agent Caffreyâs Chevrolet, an individual crouched behind a carâs radiator and fired the machine gun.
Kansas City Police Officers Grooms and Hermanson died in the blast instantly. SAC Vetterli, who was standing beside Officers Grooms and Hermanson, was shot in the left arm. He dropped to the ground and attempted to scramble to the left side of the car to join Agent Caffrey â who had not entered the Chevrolet to sit in the driverâs seat.
When Vetterli turned a corner â he saw Agent Caffrey collapse. He died from a head wound.
Inside the car, the blast killed convict Frank Nash and Police Chief Reed. Agents Lackey and Smith survived the massacre by falling forward in the back seat. Lackey was struck and seriously wounded by three bullets. Smith survived the whole massacre without a scratch.
The three gunmen ran to the car they just targeted to look inside it; then they decided to flee the area. A Kansas City policeman emerged from Union Station and fired in the direction of one of the killers, later identified as Floyd, who slumped, but continued to run.
The killers entered a car and went westward out of the parking area and disappeared.
The three survivors, Agents Smith and Lackey and SAC Vetterli, reported that the attack lasted all of 30 seconds.
From their account, the two Kansas City police officers were killed immediately, followed seconds later by Frank Nash and Chief Reed and then by Agent Caffrey â he was transported to a hospital and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Timeline of the Aftermath
The mass shooting sent shockwaves throughout the public. Historians have said the attack highlights the lawlessness of Kansas City under the Pendergast Machine. Thomas Joseph Pendergast was an American political boss who controlled Kansas City and Jackson County, Missouri from 1925 to 1939. He used a large network of family and friends (along with some voter fraud) to elect politicians. The Pendergast Machine helped launch the political career of former president Harry S. Truman.
FBI Records
Following the Kansas City Massacre, the FBI found fingerprint impressions on beer bottles in Millerâs Kansas City home. The evidence helped the FBI identify those involved.
Death of Vernon Miller
On November 29, 1933 the FBI found Millerâs mutilated body in a ditch just outside Detroit, Michigan. The FBI concluded Miller had a fight with henchman Longie Zwillman, the head of a New Jersey mob. While in Newark, Miller had shot the henchman. Another of Zwillmanâs associates killed Miller in retaliation.
Several authors, including Jay Robert Nash, have used Millerâs death to argue that the Kansas City Massacre wasnât about a potential rescue. It could have been a syndicate hit meant to silence Nash since he had extensive understanding of the crime underworld and a long list of contacts.
Arrest of Adam Richetti
After escaping out of Kansas City, Floyd and Richetti made their way to Toledo, Ohio. They met two women there by the names Beulah â also known as Juanita â and Rose Baird. The four traveled north to Buffalo, New York. With alias names, the four of them rented a Buffalo apartment. Those living in the apartment reported the two couples seldom left home and usually only left for grocery trips. Witnesses report the women occasionally threw money out the apartment windows and offered candy to children playing in the streets.
Adam Richetti | FBI Records
The four, in a new Ford Sedan bought by Rose Baird, began a trip on October 20, 1934 to travel west.
Later that same day, Floyd crashed the vehicle into a telephone pole in Toldeo, Ohio. Police Chief J. H. Fultz went out to investigate â and a shootout escalated. Chief Fultz took Richetti into custody. Floyd escaped.
Richetti was indicted by the Jackson County Grand Jury on four counts of murder. He was found guilty on June 17, 1935, exactly two years after the deadly incident. Richetti appealed the conviction. The State of Missouri Supreme Court affirmed it on May 3, 1938.
As a final act to save him, Richettiâs lawyers argued he was insane, but this effort failed.
He was executed by gas chamber on October 7, 1938.
Death of Charles âPretty Boyâ Floyd
Following the car crash in Toledo, Ohio the FBI and local police conducted a wide array of interviews and had an intensive search for Floyd in eastern Ohio. They found him hiding out in a farm outside Clarkson, Ohio on October 22, 1934. Floyd died in a shootout with police. Records show he died 15 minutes after he was shot.

Authorities found on Floyd a watch and fob, both with ten notches. Authorities in their report stated Floyd likely carved the notches to indicate how many people he had killed.
The four individuals who aided in the conspiracyâRichard Galatas, Herbert Farmer, âDocâ Louis Stacci, and Frank Mulloyâwere indicted by a federal grand jury at Kansas City, Missouri, on October 24, 1934.
On January 4, 1935, the four were found guilty of conspiracy to cause the escape of a federal prisoner from the custody of the United States. On the following day, each was sentenced to serve two years in a Federal Penitentiary and pay a fine of $10,000 â the maximum penalty allowed by law at that time.
The Kansas City Massacre changed a major FBI policy. Prior to this event the agency did not have authority to carry firearms (although some agents reportedly did) and make arrests (they could make a citizenâs arrest, then call a U.S. Marshal or local law officer). A year later Congress gave the FBI statutory authority to carry guns and make arrests (in May and June 1934).

The goal here is really just to get the word out and get people sharing your content. Check out these 6 FREE Facebook Marketing Tools to Juice Up Your Campaigns.
#3) And In This Group
If youâre not wanting to invest Facebook ad dollars in this right away, you need to start looking into other ways to drive traffic to your post and real estate website. By far, the easiest and most effective way to get your content in front of folks who are most likely to engage with it is to post it in relevant Facebook groups.
You want to find one or more local groups that have to do with gardening, home decor, community projectsâŚetc. And Facebook makes it incredibly simple to locate these prospects.
On the left side of your screen youâll see the Explore section and under it, Groups. Click on it.
Youâll automatically then be taken to suggested groups Facebook wants to you join and you can also search for other groups based on interests.
Neighborhood and Community would be a great category to start with, but you can continue to browse until you find a group that best aligns with your blog topic.
#4) Make This Video on Youtube
Youâve laid out several fun and valuable projects that homeowners and sellers can do themselves this season and now itâs time to do a little bit more of the work for them. With this video, youâll be adding value and saving them money without spending a cent.
Hereâs what to do:
Think about the past home inspections youâve been to and all of the open houses youâve shown. What did you learn from these experiences? My guess is that youâve picked up one or two home improvement quick fixes and perhaps have a better eye for home presentation decor.
For this video, just choose one thing and show your audience how to do it. It can really be anything. Unclogging a sink, caulking, replacing worn house numbers, hacks to make a room look largerâŚetc. Just pick something that youâre good at that can benefit your audience and show them how to do it. Then upload it to your Youtube Channel.
#5) Upload It To Facebook As Well
Youâve already published one blog here and now you can follow up with a super simple How-To video. Rinse and the repeat the steps you took to get eyes on your DIY blog on Facebook and try adding a new group to your outreach. Also keep track of the folks who have been engaging with your content lately and send them this video in Messenger.
#6) Create These Pinterest Boards
Pinterest can be a lead generation goldmine! If you know how to use it to get leads. To support the rest of your efforts, itâs time to get visual and create some inspiration boards for yourself and your audience.
#7) Offer This Free Resource
Spring also means itâs tax season. Get yours done and then put together a free tax resource guide for your area. Add as much value as you can and then stick it behind a landing page. That way, when people opt-in, you can collect their info and follow up to see how they did.
#8) Plan For These Spring Holidays
Holidays can really put a damper on your lead-gen game, but they donât have to! Instead of working around the holidays to connect with your network, work with them! Here are the major holidays coming up this season:
Daylight Saving (March 12th)
St. Patrickâs Day (March 17th)
April Foolâs Day (April 1st)
Easter (April 16th)
Earth Day (April 22nd)
Cinco de Mayo (May 5th)
Motherâs Day (May 14th)
Memorial Day (May 29th)
Challenge yourself to use each one in a different way. Send out a reminder for Daylight Savings, take out your clients on St. Patrickâs Day, attend a community Easter egg hunt, send your female clients a personalized email for Motherâs Day. Just make sure your voice is part of the conversation.
#9) Publish This Guest Post On A Relevant Site
Find a local online or print publication that is widely circulated or read in your area and submit a quick writeup on your top tips for spring living. You can probably modify the first blog you wrote and submit something similar. This recent post from Minnesota-based LeadSite agent, Chase Binnie, is a great help-based article for this time of year.
#10) Spring Forward With This New Posting Schedule
While youâre helping your area, take some time to do some spring cleaning of your own. Daylight Saving is right around the corner and this is a great time to take a look at your current posting schedule on social media.
Are you getting great engagement with your current routine? Then maybe itâs time to add a second or third post to your schedule. Alternatively, if youâre seeing little movement on your recent posts, itâs probably time to reevaluate your times and shake things up. Try out this schedule to see if your results improve:Â This Is The Social Media Posting Schedule That Will Boost Your Traffic By 192%.
#11) Promote These Local Events Online
The gorgeous weather and fun holidays have a way of bringing a community together during springtime. Make a list of all the local events and volunteer opportunities happening in your city and start promoting them. You can keep a running calendar on your website or use these events to give you some diverse social content each week. Either way, the more you support and give back to your area, the more youâll get back.
#12) Host This Giveaway
This is a big one, but can yield massive results for you! Run a Ring In Spring Home Makeover Contest on social media.
Everyone loves updating their home decor for the spring and summer months. Have participants submit their makeovers â it doesnât have to be the entire house, it could just be one room. Keep a photo album on Facebook of the entries and let the community vote on the best Before and After look and share their favorite makeover.
For the prize:
Partner with a local store that specializes in home furnishing or decor and let them sponsor the contest. In turn, you can promote their local business and they can provide a gift certificate or prize package for the winner.
#13) Interview This Community Expert
Although youâve taken lots of steps to empower buyers and sellers to make their own home improvements and renovation, you also want to give them the tools they need to connect with the pros.
Get in touch with a handyman you know â perhaps someone youâve worked with in the past on home repairs, and do a quick Q&A with them.
Alternatively, you can get a little more niche here and interview a garden center or plant nursery to discuss planting and gardening this season.
Publish this content in any way youâd like, but make sure to share it on your social media and tag your interviewee.
#14) Commit To This Project
Join a community garden, or start your own little plot. Choose a date to begin growing your flowers or vegetables and keep up with it throughout the season. Unless you are really passionate about gardening, Iâd recommend tending your seeds at a community garden. There will be lots of opportunities to meet people here and find out about more events happening around town.
#15) And Share Your Progress On Instagram
Let your network know about it by tracking your results on Instagram. You can either do this in a series of posts or by using the Instagram Story feature each day. Encourage fellow gardeners to do the same.
#16) Put On This Free Seminar
To connect directly with leads in your area, host a free seminar to talk all about Open Houses That Work.
Give it a name like 3 Unique Open House Ideas To Sell Your Home Fast and start promoting.
#17) Update These Sections On Your Website
By this time, you should have several neighborhood pages on your website. When was the last time you updated them? Check out the latest crime reports, school ratings and any recent developments that may have impacted these and other numbers. You always want to make sure youâve got the most up-to-date information available.
Also make sure that all of your property listings are current!
#18) Start A Podcast
I know, this seems like another tall order. BUT itâs literally never been easier to start recording! This should especially be appealing if you donât like video. At Easy Agent Pro, we put out our In The Lead Podcast weekly, but you can always start at a slower pace. Even doing something monthly would get you more traffic. You can even start by talking about your monthly marketing report. Those things can be so boring on paper. Chatting on a podcast can breathe life into even the dullest of subjects. You can even bring on more community experts to interview as well!
Check out this Step-by-Step guide from LifeHacker to get going.
#19) Record This Facebook Live Video
Have you used Facebook Live yet? Nowâs the time! Weâre going to use it now to promote your Open House seminar. Go live while you do a walk through of a current open house and give viewers a few teasers of what they can expect to gain from your presentation.
Some of the benefits of Facebook Live:
Facebookâs new algorithm gives it priority in newsfeeds
It stays active when youâre done recording (unlike Instagram live that disappears)
You can pin your video to the top of your Business Page to get more views
#21) Cleanup Your Web Presence
You should revamp your online presence at least twice a year. Take a look back at your Facebook About section, make sure your Instagram is updated to a Business Account, beef up your resume and credentials anywhere they might appear, make sure your LinkedIn Profile is currentâŚetc.
Some of this might seem unnecessary, but it all matters to your leads. If a lead looks you up on Twitter and sees that you havenât posted there since September of 2015 that could mean something to them, especially if theyâre most active on that platform.
If that sounds like your Twitter, either reactivate your engagement or delete your account. You can always rebuild your audience there when youâre ready, but an inactive social media account isnât going to do you any good. Even if it does show up in Google searches, itâs a dead end for leads, which means itâs a dead end for you too.
#22) Spend Your Saturday Morning Doing This One Thing
When was the last time you went to a yard sale? How about an estate sale? Pick a weekend morning this month to do both. People have these sales, especially in the Spring, for all kinds of reasons â and more than a few can help you get leads!
You can start by checking out the local newspaper to see if anyone has listed upcoming sales. Or, better yet, see if there are any Buy/Swap/Trade Facebook groups in your area â this might give you a better idea about what sales are prime for prospecting.
Are you going to try out any of these free marketing strategies? Let us know which ones in the comments below!

85 years later, a dark day in Kansas City remembered
Union Station | FBI Records
KANSAS CITY, Mo. â Today marks a dark day in Kansas City history. 85 years ago mobsters gunned down and killed four law enforcement officers and a criminal fugitive at Union Station railroad depot.
Adjusted for inflation, that would be over $18 million dollars today.
The FBI discovered Nash â one the most wanted fugitives in U.S. history â assisted in the escape of seven prisoners from the United States Penitentiary, Leavenworth, on December 11, 1931.
The Arkansas city was considered a national gambling mecca, led by Owney Madden and his Hotel Arkansas casino. From 1927-1947, gambling and debauchery reached a pinnacle: there were ten major casinos and numerous smaller house spinoffs. It was the largest operation of its kind in the United States at the time. Hotels advertised rooms for prostitutes and off-track booking for horse races. At the time it seemed like nothing could stop the operation; a former sheriff attempted to have the stateâs anti-gambling laws enforced and to punish voter fraud â he was murdered in 1937.
The Missouri Pacific trainâs estimated time of arrival was 7:15a.m. the following day.

Richetti and Floyd held up the sheriff and garage attendants at gunpoint.
Deepwater is about 85 miles southeast of Kansas City.
He dropped to the ground and attempted to scramble to the left side of the car to join Agent Caffrey â who had not entered the Chevrolet to seat in the driverâs seat.
When Vetterli turned a corner, he saw Agent Caffrey collapse.
He used a large network of family and friends, along with voter fraud, to elect politicians. The Pendergast Machine helped launch the political career of former president Harry S. Truman.

Authorities in their report stated Floyd likely carved the notches as an indication of how many people he had killed.
