One of the things I love best about my record collection is my Garage Rock section. Even after I trimmed it a few years ago, it remained the largest sub-genre in my collection by far. Of course it all started with Lenny Kaye's Nuggets collection which spawned a whole series of Garage collections, and series on a variety of record labels. The one vinyl boxed set I have is pictured above. I was just listening to it. Garage Punk Unknowns, a four record set with liner notes was issued in 1998 by Crypt Records who are also responsible for the Back From The Grave series of releases. They also did a multi-volume series of CDs titled Teenage Shutdown. A.I.P. had the multi volume Pebbles series along with Highs In The Mid-Sixties, a vinyl series that ran to 23 volumes. Bam Caruso issued the 20 volume Rubble series. Past & Present did 13 volumes in the Mindrocker series. Rhino extended the Nuggets series, and a couple of Nuggets boxed sets were issued as well. Gear Fab got into the act with a series titled Psychedelic States that focused on local scenes in 15 different states that ran to something like 25 volumes. The Collectables label dug up several label's unreleased tapes, and issued a number of those, and many Garage acts from the period got proper LP reissues from labels like Sundazed.

Of course all of this was an outgrowth of the 1964 British Invasion spearheaded by The Beatles, and Rolling Stones. Most of these teenage wonders never made it out of their own neighborhoods. Very few cut records, but many of those that did had their moment in the spotlight with a 45 that charted locally. A handful of the best ones broke nationally, and only in a few instances were the groups allowed to make a full-length LP. If not for Lenny Kaye's Nuggets compilation, most of what those kids did would've been lost to the ages. Instead, they were immortalized, and survive now, six decades later.

I built an iTunes file for Garage Rock that runs to more than a thousand songs, and I probably only used half what I had. It was a great period, and all those records bring it back in living color.

The Amboy Dukes - Journey to the Center of the Mind / Mississippi Murderer

I don't actually know very much about the music of Ted Nugent, but I feel I must preface this entry by saying "fuck you, Ted Nugent." That said, I don't think this is a bad single. The A side is some standard LSD-centric psychedelia, which you could almost have convinced me was a pastiche by Zappa. The B side is endearingly nuts. But fuck Ted Nugent.

America - Sister Golden Hair / Midnight

Side A is one of those oldies radio stalwarts, with a folksy melody that sticks in your brain. Extremely likeable. I really didn't know what to make of "Midnight," which has a lovely dreamy quality but isn't nearly as memorable. But maybe I only remember "Sister Golden Hair" better because I'm so much more familiar with it? A conundrum.

The American Breed - Bend Me, Shape Me / Mindrocker

Side A is fine example of mid-60s power pop, though it sounds fairly worn down on this disc. "Mindrocker" honestly sounds like what you'd get if you deliberately tried to write a psychedelic pastiche, but you'd never even heard of Zappa. Sometimes they're B sides for a reason.

The Animals - We Gotta Get Out Of This Place / It's My Life

Two stone cold classics on one disc. I don't think you can actually do much better than this at 45 rpm.

Eric Burdon & The Animals - Monterey / Ain't It So

I actually enjoyed the B side more when I listened to this, it's very rockin'. But "Monterey" isn't a bad song, and it's also a neat little rock history lesson. The Animals were an educational band, sometimes!

Eric Burdon & The Animals - San Franciscan Nights / Good Times

Side A is pretty chill, apart from the spoken word intro going a little too hard in trying to convince me to go to San Francisco. I've been there, it's not quite this dreamy! I had to laugh when I heard side B, just because I wasn't expecting anything so square from these guys.

Paul Anka - (You're) Having My Baby - Papa

I wish some of these other songs sounded as high quality as this one, because sheesh. Put these two together, and you have a perfect union of benignly retrograde gender roles in popular song.

Susan Anton - Killin' Time (With Fred Knoblock) / Love Is No Friend To A Fool

I don't really know what to say, except that I enjoyed side B more in the moment? They're both pretty forgettable slices of 1980 Adult Contemporary.

टीवी रियलिटी शो  India’s Got Talent जीतकर देशभर में पॉपुलर हुए प्रिंस डांस ग्रुप ने इंडिया टुडे के ‘माइंड रॉक्स’ में शिरकत की. उन्होंने धमाकेदार डांस कर सभी को हैरान किया. ग्रुप को टी कृष्णा मोहन रेड्डी लीड करते हैं. प्रिंस डांस ग्रुप, मशहूर शो बुगी वुगी का भी हिस्सा रह चुके हैं. कार्यक्रम में रेड्डी ने एक चौंकाने वाला खुलासा किया. उन्होंने बताया कि बुगी वुगी से लौटने के बाद उन्हें किस कदर अपमानित किया गया था.

रेड्डी ने बताया, “हम गरीब बच्चों के साथ, मेहनत मजदूरी करने ��ालों के साथ डांस करते हैं. बुगी वुगी के बाद जब हम गांव में (बरहामपुर) पहुंचे. हमें धमकियां मिलीं. लोगों ने अपमानित किया, क्योंकि वो नहीं चाहते थे कि हम बुगी वुगी पहुंचे. वापस आने पर मुझसे मारपीट भी हुई. मारपीट करने वाले कई लोग कभी हमारे साथ डांस करते थे.”

बकौल रेड्डी, “उस वक्त हालत बहुत बुरे थे. मैं ये बता नहीं सकता. लोगों ने मुझे घेरकर अंडरवियर में खड़ा किया. वो दिन याद करता हूं तो आज का दिन अच्छा लगता है.”

इस डांस ग्रुप में गरीब और दिव्यांग बच्चे शामिल थे. कार्यक्रम में रेड्डी के साथ उनके ग्रुप के डांसर टुल्लू भी थे. टुल्लू दिव्यांग हैं. रेड्डी ने टुल्लू के बारे में कहा, “मैं ट्यूशन पढ़ रहा था. उस वक्त ये (टुल्लू) तीन साल के थे. ये अपनी जगह से हिल भी नहीं पाते थे. इनकी बहन कंधे से उठाकर इन्हें लाती थी. ये सिर्फ पड़े रहते थे. बहन ट्यूशन में भी इन्हें लाती थी और कहीं रख देती थी.”

“मैंने पूछा तो इनकी बहन ने कहा, ऐसे बच्चों को छोड़ देंगे तो कुत्ता भी उठाकर ले जाएगा. ये (टुल्लू) बहुत मेहनती हैं. इनकी शक्ल पर मैंने कभी नर्वसनेस और डर नहीं देखा.” बता दें, माइंडरॉक्स के मंच पर टुल्लू ने हैरतअंगेज कारनामे भी किए. जिसे देखकर सभी हैरान रह गए.
