“Happy birthday dear Melanie~” Im Nayeon’s hands clapped excitedly as she giggled down at the fluffy bunny with her coworker, Minatozaki Sana. “Happy birthday to you!”

“Yayyyy!!!” Cheered Sana, grinning ear to ear. “You’re now…two!-“

“Three.”

“Three!”

Nayeon chuckled, turning away and moving to the treats drawer. “And I think someone deserves a pretty dande—!” She stopped, pouting at the drawer when it revealed itself as… empty. “Lion…Sanaaaaaaa, what happened to all the dandelions for the bunnies?”

The orange haired girl flushed the color of her hair and cleared her throat, sheepishly. “I swear I only made them because I saw them on tiktok and—“

“Sanaaa,” Nayeon whined. “You used our dandies for thatttt?”

“Yah!! Don’t act like you didn’t adore them!”

Nayeon huffed, chubby cheeks puffing out as she looked away and toward the empty drawer. “I haven’t the faintest idea what you’re talking about.”

Sana pouted. “Don’t lie.”

The blonde shifted forward, eyeing the poor, sad fluffy bunny. “Awe man. It’s Melanie’s birthday and we have no dandies for her!”

“We could give her regular treats?”

“Sana, babe, no.” Nayeon swiftly shook her head. “How would you like it if I gave you a piece of grass for your birthday instead of a cake?”

Sana frowned, nodding along cutely. “You’re right, that was horrible of me.”

“Quite.”

“So sorry.”

“You should be.”

The brighter-haired girl gently leaned on her hand, eyeing the bunny for a few moments before gasping. “Oh my goodness! I have an idea!”

“No, we can’t use the tulips—“

“No, no!” Sana grinned, turning to her older friend. “My friend owns a flower shop just across the street! You could buy some there!”

Nayeon pouts. “Do they sell dandelions?”

“Probably—“

“Sana-“

“Look, I dunno!” Sana huffs. “But they might have other edible flowers there for the bunnies too.”

Nayeon sighs and thinks it over. Sure, she wasn’t exactly sure about leaving the Japanese girl alone, unattended, in a pet store— but also… she really did want to celebrate Melanie’s birthday.

“Fine,” The blonde yields. “I’ll be back in a few, okay? Don’t let anyone bother Mel before she’s had her fix.”

The orange haired girl shot Nayeon a thumbs up— not quelling the fear in the older one’s tummy one bit.

Oh well.

“Hello?” Nayeon calls out as she enters the shop— immediately being hit by the smell of fresh flowers. She swallows, glancing at the little bell that rings as she enters. Softly, Nayeon approaches the counter and—

Is that a girl crouching?

“Excuse me- Miss?”

The girl jumps- flustered and pushing away a nintendo switch behind her back and hitting a plastic vase on the way — spilling tiny petals on the floor. “Eep!”

Nayeon ducks immediately, helping pluck the petals up. “Oh dear,” She chuckles softly. “I didn’t mean to spook you— I was just wondering if you guys had any..” She looks up, finding the blonde peering over at her and—

Oh my god.

“Any..?” The blonde offers softly.

“Uh- yknow-“ Nayeon jumps up, messily stuffing the petals into the vase with a nervous laugh. “F-Flowers.”

Nice going.

“Um,” The girl clears her throat. “Well…yeah— what kind are you-“

“Dandelions!” Oh my god just stop talking- “I really love dandelions! Haha, can’t get enough of ‘em!”

Nayeon thinks life away from civilization would do her some good, because what in the world was that.

But—

The girls lips quirk up. “Oh, yeah?” She chuckles shortly. “How big of a batch would you like?”

“I mean- gimme what ya got!”

Oh god.

“The whole store even, haha!”

Make it stop.

“I’ll take the lot!”

Nayeon’s face burns in embarrassment but she just can’t seem to shut up. She just- sort of stands there, watching the poor blonde comprehend her words slowly.

“…So is a small bundle alright?”

“Yeah.”

Nayeon purses her lips as the girl leaves to the back— a groan soon falling. “Oh my god Im Nayeon what the hell were you thinking blurting away like that- are you insane?! Have you lost your mind? You see a pretty girl and you just—“

“Here you go,” The girl is back, rounding the corner with the small bundle of dandelions and a gentle smile that makes Nayeon want to cry and jump up and down at the same time. “Can I ask what you’re using them for?”

“Hm,” Nayeon gulps instead. “…bunnies. I own the- um, animal shop just across the street actually..” She chuckles nervously. “It’s a bunnies birthday- kind of a big deal-“

“Oh, how cute.”

CUTE?

“The bunnies, I mean.”

Oh.

“I love bunnies.”

“Y-yeah uh, my friends always say I look like one-…so,” Nayeon beamed— flashing her two longer teeth for the girl to see.

“Oh my,” The girl gasped. “That’s really interesting.”

“Yeah it’s pretty cool…”

“Oh of course.”

“I’m like- connected to the bunnies because of it.”

“Naturally.”

“Spiritually too—“

“I don’t doubt that.”

…

“So..—“

“Oh, right,” The girl looks down at the register. “That’ll be $5.43, cash or card?”

“Cash, thanks,” Nayeon quickly reaches in her wallet, fumbling and pulling out a ten dollar bill. The girl proceeds with the purchase, handing back her change and watching her fumble again- this time putting it away.

“I hope your bunnies like their dandelions.”

Nayeon shoots her a smile. “Thanks,” Her eyes flit down and then back up. “Mina.”

“How did you-“ Mina looks down- at her name tag. “Oh.”

“Did I mess up the pronunciation?”

“Oh no- I just forgot it was there.”

“Oh,” Nayeon clears her throat and awkwardly adds. “I’m Nayeon, by the way.”

“That’s pretty,” Mina nods quickly. “Nayeon. I like it.”

She said my name she said my name!!!! Nayeon hums. “Yeah it’s uh- pretty cool…not many people have it, y’know, and stuff.”

“Oh, unique?”

“Mhm.”

“Isn’t there an actress named-“

“Well anyway!” Nayeon shakes her head quickly, grabbing her bundle. “I have a bunny birthday party to attend, so..!”

“Right of course,” Mina smiles. “Have fun.”

“Yeah you too.”

Really.

Nayeon power walks immediately out of the store.

Nayeon rests softly on the counter at work, eyeing the floor as she listens to Sana’s pretty humming. “Sanaaaa, thought I told you not to play with the puppies when you’re supposed to be working~”

“Wah!!” The orange haired girl quickly turns. “Come on, it’s the end of my shift!”

“Fine, fine,” Nayeon chuckles, pushing up and walking around the register in order to lean back against it. “So uh… did we go to school with Mina?”

“Hm?” Sana tilts her head. “Uh, no actually. She transferred late and graduated after we did.”

“Hm.”

Sana eyes her friend — before her lips quirk up. “Oh?”

“Why are you looking at me like that?”

“Does someone have a—“

“Absolutely not.”

“Oh my god!!!” Sana squeals, alerting the pups to start barking. She immediately turns around and apologizes, before turning back to Nayeon and giggling happily as she grabs her hands. “You do, you do!”

“I just think she’s pretty—“

“Ohhh!! Mina and Nayeon sittin’ in a tree!~”

“You’re insufferable.”

The bell dings, and two bodies push through the doors— making the giddy Sana even more excited as she bounds over to her girlfriends. “Eee!! Girlfriends!!”

“Yah, stop being so loud, baby,” Park Jihyo chuckles, running her hand through her girlfriend’s hair with a smile. “You’ll rowdy the animals.”

“She already did.”

“Nothing new,” Hirai Momo sighs, patting Sana on the butt. “You need to calm down love, what’re you so happy about?”

“Nayeon has a crush!”

“Sana!”

“You’re kidding,” Jihyo gawks. “You have a crush?”

“Hey now-“

“You haven’t had one since middle school!”

“Jihyo-“

“You’re pushing thirty!”

“Okay.”

“Easy,” Momo snorts, resting a hand on Jihyo’s head as she turns to Nayeon. “Who’s the lucky girl?”

“Or unlucky-“

“Quiet brat.” Nayeon huffs at Jihyo.

“Hag.”

“You little—“

“It’s Mina.” Sana confesses quickly, wanting a groan from Nayeon’s end.

“It’s impossible to keep secrets in this friend group—“

“Mina?” Momo gawks. “As in- Myoui Mina?”

“I don’t know her last name—“

“Yeah that’s her.”

Nayeon waves a hand at the clingy orange haired girl. “Might as well ask all your questions to yaps a lot over there.”

Jihyo huffs- going to defend her girlfriend, before Sana pipes up again. “I sent her over there to get dandies for the bunnies a few days ago and she came back super flushed and stuttering!”

“Okay.” Nayeon straight faces. “I’m never showing my face again-“

“Liar, you’re obsessed with it,” Jihyo comments.

“Momo, how would you feel about only having one girlfriend?”

“Wait why-“

“Because I am going to rip this brats head from her body—!” Nayeon moved forward but Momo stopped her with a hand- sighing.

“You two never stop.”

“Oh would you look at that, we’re out of dandelions—“

Sana pouts, trying to move over to the drawer to see. “Are you sure? You just restocked it…?”

“Yep! We’re out!”

The younger girl pouts. “Nayeon..”

“…yes?”

“Is this just an excuse to go see Mina?”

“PFFFF- whattttt?” She waves her hand quickly. “No! Ha! Of course not! Who’s Mina?!”

Sana sighs. “I’ll go grab your wallet.”

“…thanks.”

The bell dinging at the door startles Mina, who was standing by the Daffodils and gently watering them. She softens. “Oh, it’s you again. How’re you?”

“I’m great,” Nayeon whispered softly, flushing a bit at seeing the girl’s adorable outfit. “Um- I need more dandelions.”

Mina hums. “Those bunnies eat quick, huh?”

“Yep! Fatties!”

Sorry Melanie.

Mina quirks a smile, gently setting her water can down. “Um, i’ll go grab them but-“ She eyes the plants. “I’ll be honest, I'm a bit behind today. Do you mind watering the plants?”

“Oh- pffff- yah, i’m like- the plant watering god.”

“…don’t over water them, okay?”

“Right, sorry.”

Mina nodded at that, turning and quickly wandering to the back for Nayeon’s dandelions. Meanwhile, the other blonde grabs the watering can and quietly moves around the store— watering the plants.

“Hm..” She nods. “Those thirsty rock tiktok’s were right…”

After a few moments, the other blonde returned.

“Here we go,” She moved to the register, and Nayeon diligently set down the can, moving over. “Same price as last time; $5.43.”

Nayeon nodded and got out the money, passing it to her with a soft question. “How old are you?”

“Um,” Mina cleared her throat. “I’m twenty-seven.”

“Really?”

“Mhm-“

“You don’t look it.”

Mina smiles bashfully, handing Nayeon her change. “That’s really sweet. How old are you?”

“Almost thirty—“

“Almost thirty??”

Nayeon pauses, then nods. “Uh- yeah. Yeah. Almost thirty. I hate when my friends remind me but- y’know.”

“Wow,” Mina gawks. “You look to be in your mid twenties! Are you native here?”

“Mhm. What about you?”

“Oh— I’m Japanese.”

Oh Nayeon liked that a bit too much. “That’s so cool.” She whispered softly- glancing down at the bundle. “Um, I’m gonna get going but—“

Mina frowned and Nayeon almost felt compelled to say.

“Pet the bunnies for me?”

“Absolutely.”

Nayeon breathed a little too quickly— making a sweet flush rise on Mina’s cheeks. “Um-“ She cleared her throat. “Well, uh…! Have a good day!”

“You too..!”

“I don’t understand why you don’t just ask her out.” Momo sighs, shaking her head as her hands rub up and down Jihyo’s shoulder and Sana’s thigh, respectively. “She clearly likes you.”

“I don’t know,” Nayeon pouts. “What if she’s one of those straight girls that look like a lesbian?”

Sana shakes her head. “No, she’s gay.”

“Oh lovely, the town stalker has all the answers.”

“Y’know what I think,” Jihyo smirks. “Nayeon’s pushing thirty and is too much of a pussy to ask out a girl.”

Nayeon gawks. “Excuse me—“

“I mean,” The brunette confidently gestures to her embarrassed girls. “I have two.”

“Greedy bitch.”

“Ugly hag.”

“Sloppy seconds-!”

“Ancient puss—!”

“Okay!” Momo’s hand clamped around Jihyo’s lips. “That’s enough of that, thanks, we’re in public.”

“Hmph,” Nayeon rolled her eyes. “I’m not a pussy. I could ask her out today.”

Sana’s brows raised. “Really?”

“Yeah.”

“Well then do it.”

“Wait what?”

Momo moved her hand. “Ask her.”

Jihyo grinned. “Get it on camera-“

“Jihyo—“

“Grandma attempts to ask fresh young femme out and trips into a cactus instead—“

“Oh like your cactus that died?”

“You old—!”

Sana purses her lips. “Highschool all over again…”

“More dandelions?”

Mina’s smile is infectious. Nayeon finds herself almost mesmerized by it. “U-Uh, actually,” She clears her throat, shyly. “What’s your favorite flower?”

“Pardon?”

“Flower. Favorite. You.”

“Oh,” Mina hums, glancing away. “I think… maybe a Dahlia.”

“A what now-“

Mina chuckles softly, hands toying with each other. “It’s not really native here,” She speaks softly. “Mainly Mexico and The States.”

“Ah.”

Well.

“I’m sure it’s beautiful.” Nayeon clears her throat. “I like tulips.”

“You seem like the type.”

“What does that mean?”

“Nothing just-“ Mina shies, glancing away. “A lot of pretty girls like tulips.”

“Hmph. Yeah well—“

WAIT SHE CALLED ME PRETTY-

“You think I’m pretty?” Nayeon flushes heavily, up to her ears. Her heart flutters and she swallows, watching the blonde look back over with a tiny smile.

“…quite.”

Oh my god—

“Are you single?”

Mina flushes this time, blinking once- then twice- “Y-Yeah. I’ve been single for a while-“ She then sputters. “N-Not like-! Not years!”

“No, no, I get it!”

The two fall into hesitant, nervous chuckles.

“Um, would you,” Shyly, Nayeon’s thumbs twirl. “Would you maybe wanna go on a date or something?”

“Or something?”

“Huh?”

“You said or something—“

“Just ignore that part-!”

Mina giggles, playing with her hair and— slightly hiding behind it. “…I’d love to.”

Nayeon takes a minute. No way. This beautiful blonde just- agreed to go on a date with her?! She gulps. “Great. Great, great, um, so, like, when are you free?”

“Always.”

Mina then flushes. “I mean-!”

“How’s friday?”

She softens. “…that’s good.”

“Okay, um,” Nayeon shuffles. “Meet outside of your shop at seven?”

“Sounds like a plan…”

Nayeon nods, softly backing up and- slightly hitting a shelf. She panics and checks that it’s okay before nervously laughing and shooting Mina a thumbs up. “U-Um- see you then!”

“Y-Yeah! See you..!”

Nayeon exits the shop and —

“HAH! SUCK IT PARK JIHYO!”
