Pathfinder (1987). A young Sámi man witnesses a band of vicious raiders slay his family and flees to a nearby village, where he learns he must become a Pathfinder.
Watching this for the Oscars Project (it was nommed for Best Foreign Language Film in '88!), I didn't realise until afterwards the film's significance in helping preserve the Sámi language and culture - wonderful! I love the capacity cinema has in sharing history, language and cultural dialogue, particular those which have been silenced by colonialism.
Also! This is great! A really thrilling adventure, albeit a straightforward one. There's a real warmth between many of the dynamics - a nice contrast to the icy surrounds - and it beautifully folds together folklore and realism to tell just a really good story. Highly recommend it! 8/10.

im p sure the indigenous ppl in frozen 2 were actually officially based on saami ppl. officially like signed a contract of some kind (and frozen has been said to take place in norway)
they were. they consulted and worked with sámi people and had music from sámi artists and that’s why it’s the first disney movie to be translated into a sámi language. Mikkel gaup and mari boine were literally voice actors in the sámi version

Norway’s second chance is happening tonight before the final this Saturday, so here’s my full ranking of the Melodi Grand Prix songs:
KEiiNO – Monument
Jorn – Faith Bloody Faith
Blåsemafian ft. Hazel – Let Loose
TuVeia – Bli med meg på gar’n
RIVER – Coming Home
KiiM – My Lonely Voice
IMERIKA – I Can’t Escape
Dinaye – Own Yourself
Ole Hartz – Vi er Norge
Raylee – Hero
Ketil Stokkan: My Life is OK
Kaja Rode – Feel Again
Marianne Pentha & Mikkel Gaup – Pages
Landeveiens Helter – Alt det der
Beady Belle – Playing With Fire
Ane.Fin – Walking In My Sleep
TIX – Ut Av Mørket
Atle Pettersen – World On Fire
Maria Solheim – Nordlyset
Stina Talling – Elevate
Big Daddy Karsten – Smile
Stavangerkameratene – Who I Am (Barndomsgater)
Rein Alexander – Eyes Wide Open
Daniel Owen – Psycho
Royane – Circus
Emmy – Witch Woods
I decided it was easier to rank them all together rather than rank the last chance and finalists separately - the eleven known finalists are in bold.
Norway once again has a wide range of songs both in genre and in how much I like them. I’ve not had too many songs I really dislike this national final season, but Norway has given me a few, I really do not get the appeal of Witch Woods at all. On the other hand, they have some of my absolute favourite songs, my entire top three went straight to my playlist the first time I heard them and I still love them all.
For me, I’ll be disappointed if Jorn doesn’t win the last chance round, Faith Bloody Faith is an excelent metal song. It’s got that classic metal sound with the more eastern-inspired opening which adds interest, and it builds really well into a truly epic chorus. I don’t even know what to say about it, I just really love this song!
That said, I would understand if another song won the space in the final tonight, some good songs got left behind in the semis. I honestly prefer most semi final songs to the prequalified songs, with one notable exception, and that is Keiino. I’m still a little worried it might be too soon for them to return, with 2020 cancelled they were in the previous competitive Eurovision, but Monument is such a great song that despite this I really want them to win on Saturday. It’s got the catchiness and joy that Spirit in the Sky had, but with a slightly more mature sound. I also really like that Fred has more to do, I love that little rap break. And the climax of this song is just incredible. My only criticism is in the staging, it was very dark, so I hope it’s tweaked for the final, and then if they do get the ticket, Norway does something much lighter and more dynamic for Rotterdam.
I’m really happy with the finalists that qualified from the semis (except one, but I’ve mentioned that). I did prefer Faith Bloody Faith over Let Loose in semi 1, but I wasn’t complaining when it qualified, I love that song so much too, the brass solos are really catchy and fun and Hazel is a strong vocalist, adding some lightness to contrast with the instrumental breaks. It’s just a really solid dance track!
While these three are my three favourites to win, there are two more songs I would understand if they won, and that’s My Lonely Voice and I Can’t Escape. I like them equally, and my opinions on them are really similar. They both tap into that same emotional space for me, and had the same journey with how much I liked them - I didn’t care for either much based on studio cut but I started to get them both a bit more with the live performances - there’s potential that either could grow on me even more.
Overall while this selection maybe had a few more songs that it needed, there is some really good stuff here. I’m absolutely rooting for one of Monument, Let Loose, or Faith Bloody Faith on the outside chance it gets through the last chance round. I honestly think any of these three would get Norway a great result in May, but I could see My Lonely Voice or I Can’t Escape doing good things for them too.
#eurovision#esc2021#nf ranking#also shoutout to Norway for having one of the best joke acts this nf season#Bli med meg på garn is great

Sistesjansen - Norways last chance of reaching the national final!
Today, Monday 15th of February, Norways last possible Eurovision entry will be decided in an extra final between those who in the semifinals did not manage to qualify.
The hopeful entries are:
Beady Belle - Playing with Fire
Jorn - Faith Bloody Faith! Jorn qualified through the Wild Card Final!
Stina Talling - Elevate
Ketil Stokkan - My Life is OK
Maria Solheim - Nordlyset
Daniel Owen - Psycho
Dinaye - Own Yourself
Big Daddy Karsten - Smile
Ole Hartz - Vi er Norge
Landeveiens Helter - Alt det der
Royane - Circus
Marianne Pentha & Mikkel Gaup - Pages
Ane.Fin - Walking in My Sleep
TuVeia - Bli med meg på gar'n
RIVER - Coming Home

I personally do not think any of these entries are good enough to win the Norwgian National Final on Saturday, but as for who I think will grasp the last spot, I would put my money on Jorn, Maria Solheim or Big Daddy Karsten!
