I’ve seen a handful of people talking about Will possibly trying to get over Mike and maybe getting together with another boy (Chance) and I wanted to know your thoughts on that. I personally don’t think it makes sense because it’s not going to be super easy for him to just get over being in love with Mike or to get with someone else to start getting over Mike. If Mike and El were spending all there time together like they did in s3 and Will was getting super jealous and didn’t want to be maybe then I could kinda see him trying to find someone new but it’s the 80’s he can’t exactly just go up to some guy and ask him out. There would need to be buildup for it idk it feels weird to think about Will looking at someone else.
I think this theory is rather unrealistic. During the van scene, Will definitively lost all hope that his feelings for Mike could ever be reciprocated. If the series were set in our era, the idea of him trying to move on by dating a boy from high school might be plausible. But as you pointed out, we’re in the 1980s, in Hawkins, Indiana—a small rural town where everyone knows each other, and even adults, like Troy’s parents or Mike’s, have internalized homophobia to the point where they saw nothing shocking in a 12-year-old boy being “killed by a queer” or in lines like “See, Michael? See what happens?” when referring to a kid being assaulted and kidnapped just for looking somewhat gay.
Will would never take the risk of making himself an even bigger target for homophobic bullying and harassment by pursuing a relationship with someone who could potentially expose him or put him in danger—especially not with a member of the basketball team, considering they were actively leading a witch hunt against so-called “Satanists,” including the Hellfire Club, where Mike, Lucas, and Dustin were among the most wanted members.
This scenario could have been an incredibly interesting addition to Mike and Will’s romantic arc under different circumstances—forcing Mike to confront his conflicting emotions as he watches Will try to move on with another guy, exploring the complexity of their situation within the backdrop of 1980s homophobia and secret, forbidden love. It could have also created a compelling contrast between the gay character who takes the leap into a relationship with a man and the one who hasn’t yet, instead staying with a girl. But realistically, there just isn’t enough time for this with only one season left, plus all the supernatural events and the other characters arcs that need to be wrapped up.
That being said, I have to admit I’d love to see a 16-year-old Mike being openly jealous—visibly jealous—and confronting Will because of it. We’ve already seen how even subtle jealousy from Mike in Season 4 spoke volumes, so it would be a great tool to highlight his feelings for Will in a way that finally allows the general audience to connect all the dots.

Jealous Guy
@bylerweek2025
Byler Week | Day 5 | Forest Green
Showcasing the airport reunion scene where Mike is trying to be “as normal as possible.” We focus on his POV after he finds out that Will may have a “girl that he likes”. Even though El is Mike’s “girlfriend”, we get to see Mike deal with some pretty deep internalized homophobia. He’s very insecure, acting spiteful and dismissive towards Will. Mike’s smile is forced (mainly with El); his movements are awkward-as nonchalant as can be; he’s “swallowing his pain”. He doesn’t mean to hurt Will. In reality, Mike has hidden feelings for Will; Mike wanted Will to notice him but thought Will was trying to hide how he used to be & move on with a “girl he likes”; so Mike is doing the “same”. He’s displaying a big facade and Mike is really “just a jealous guy”.
💚Written and sung by John Lennon, 1971. This version is by Roxy Music. Here are the lyrics I thought worked best:
I was trying to catch your eyes
Thought that you was trying to hide
I was swallowing my pain
I was swallowing my pain
I didn't mean to hurt you
I'm sorry that I made you cry
Oh no, I didn't want to hurt you
I'm just a jealous guy
I'm just a jealous guy
I'm just a jealous guy
*side note: I think this song and scene could also be from Will’s perspective in a way. Like they were both trying to “catch each other’s eyes”, but ultimately felt like each one was “trying to hide”. Like, ‘if Mike’s not going to hug me and act all weird, I’m not going to let him know this painting is for him’. We see how Mike reacts at Rink o’Mania with his perception of Will’s attitude. So in essence, Will “didn’t mean to hurt” Mike either; he just felt like a third wheel, & possibly a jealous guy; too.*

“EVERYTHING IN STRANGER THINGS IS RELATED TO BYLER” I scream as they lock me up in my padded room.
Okay but hear me one it, it literally is. MY OPINION but every time I listen to “EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE” by the police TO ME it screams Will’s pov to me about Mike okay. Ik that song does have a lot of double meanings I get that but one of those meanings is byler! The lyrics just match up so welllll.
Byler is the heart of this show, we know this. They take the center stage in season 5. The show is literally molded for them. Nothing is a coincidence in Stranger Things…nothing.

I made a Byler Iceberg, which included scenes from the series, phrases, words of the authors and actors proving the byler, and also several of the most interesting theories in my opinion. The higher the takes are located, the more obvious they are!

"not possible."
"uh, what's that?"
"we're friends. we're friends."

Oh gaaaaaang
I have JUST discovered something
Again
If you watch 3x05 and watch the mileven “making up” scene, you can see that Mike isn’t focused on El- he’s focused on Will.
When the scene starts, Mike nods to Will to give him and El a second, and you can see where Will walks off too: almost directly in front of Mike.
While the scene is progressing, many times do we see Mike glancing towards Will. At one point, he didn’t even have his eyes on El. You can just barely see it because Mike is FACING El, but you can see his iris, not the white of his eye, indicating he’s not looking or focused on El.
If I’m wrong feel FREE to call me out

What do you think their first kiss scene will be like? Where do you see it happening? Do you think they’ll cry?
I really struggle to picture one specific scene because so many different emotional moments would be perfect for their first kiss—whether it’s born from tension, passion, frustration, and anger spilling out during an argument, or conveyed through shyness, sadness, or a heartfelt confession. So many different versions of a first kiss would fit them perfectly, which is why I find it difficult to have a fixed image of what their kiss scene would actually look like.
What I do know for sure, however, is that I hope we get a scene where they argue, like in Seasons 4 and 5, but longer and more intimate. When Mike and Will (but especially Mike) are overwhelmed by emotion during a fight, they become increasingly transparent about their feelings for each other and how much they truly mean to one another. It’s incredibly entertaining to watch Mike unknowingly expose just how much he places Will on the same level as—or even above—his girlfriend.
That being said, thanks to @thefirstiloveyou’s post (here), I now have a perfect image of one of their kisses set to music, and I have to admit, I’d love to see that happen.
