I can't wrap my head around how trailer park boys depicts queerness bc
On one hand, more than half the series (I'd say like seasons 1-7) treats queerness so casually. Randy and Lahey's relationship is widely accepted and unquestioned. Upon first watch I was surprised how, despite the two of them being pretty much every other character's mortal enemies, there's never a jab thrown at either of them for being gay (fatphobia on the other hand deserves its own post 😬). Characters question their sexualities numerous times, and sexuality often depicted as something that is (in certain cases) subject to fluctuate and change.
All of the Swearnet produced seasons treat queerness like the plague. Minus the established relationship between Randy and Lahey, new queer characters like Donna and Candy are not only treated as alien and unnatural, but as a threat to the normalcy of the park. Wlw identities (thinking primarily about Barb, Donna and Candy in S10) are treated as an attack on masculinity at least, and predatory in more extreme cases.
It's such a weird departure from the almost unspoken natural queerness of the earlier seasons. When you think about One Last Shot and some of the earliest, most pivotal queer-coded scenes of the series, everything after season 7 is such a stark contrast.
#trailer park boys#you gotta wonder who's writing these jokes cuz like. both jp tremblay and robb wells wrote w/ mike clattenburg on one last shot#but then again. can i really be surprised 🤷🏽#this could have been a longer post. i wanted to get into sarah and lucy's relationship and touch on bisexuality some more but am tired 😴

Trailer park boys Season 7/8 continuity
In season 7 Lucy gets pregnant with Randy’s baby who we see at the end of the season. I’m watching season 8 now and the baby isn’t mentioned or shown as of episode 5 anyway. Did some events from previous seasons just get scrapped?

Red card bait
An automated offside system is scheduled to be used at the Club World Cup and the 2022 World Cup:
Brother: Let’s play Timo at the Club World Cup and really test the machine.
Me: I imagine Timo getting all disbelieving and furious like he did when he was given the wrong flavor wine gum.
Brother: I just want it to be instant. I don’t want to not be able to celebrate goals.
Me: If it's not, then I'm going to be all disbelieving and furious like I was given the wrong flavor wine gum.
Brother: You just know that they were modeling the machine after Clattenburg just to make it worse.
Me: Clattenburg, with an extra model of Mike Dean on the VAR for good measure.
Brother: It would just be a Hazard ball boy red card bait to have those two because you know someone would kick that thing.

What is trailer park boys actually about? I ask this as someone who has never seen any of it and knows nothing about any of the characters, and while I could Google it I'd rather hear it from a passionate enjoyer tbh ❤️
Aw anon I'd be happy to answer!
Trailer Park Boys follows three friends in a mockumentary style series (think The Office but with the shenanigans of smth like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia ig?). The boys live in a small trailer park in Nova Scotia, and most of the plots revolve around them fucking around and scheming up ways to make money while bouncing in and out of jail.
Julian is the leader of the group, quiet, most level headed (also the beefiest, holy SHIT those tits). Bubbles is sensitive, loves cats, and is the glue that keeps the group together. Ricky is a jackass, usually high and/or drunk, but he's well meaning (most of the time) and does what he can to provide for his girlfriend and daughter. All three of them are constantly dodging the park supervisor Mr Lahey, a wannabe cop with a drinking problem who has a personal vendetta against the boys, and his boyfriend Randy, whose sole character trait is that he enjoys cheeseburgers.
There's some continuity between seasons, some will end with the boys getting busted/going to jail and start with them getting out, but you could probably start anywhere if you were interested. Most ppl say the first seven seasons are the best.
Imo, TPB is great brain junk food. I've been binging it the past week or so and I find it hilarious. It has a pretty predictable formula that I find comforting, but also has moments that'll throw you off. Plus I love a good found family dynamic, and the boys typically stick together despite all the bullshit they put each other through. There's some pretty heartfelt moments.
PLUS... tpb has some pretty interesting history? I found out after doing some digging thru the fandom tag that before it existed, Mike Clattenburg (the creator) directed a short film called One Last Shot that follows the characters who would later become Ricky and Julian in sort of a gay coming of age story. It's a pretty emotional piece (I've watched it like three times since Friday cuz I honestly can't believe the show has its origins in this film).
DOUBLE PLUS: You can't run out of fucking content for this show. There's 12 seasons, an animated series, a SHIT ton of movies (including a pilot film from 1999), a podcast, and live performances. The actors actually record the podcast and live stuff AS their characters, which I think is so cool.
#asks#trailer park boys#anon you probably didn't need to know all that but. thanks for shooting me an ask it made my night ^-^#I'll take any reason to talk abt tpb it has grown on me so quickly

“ From time to time I think back on my life and I realize everything happens for a reason. I guess you could call it fate or destiny, I just call it a fucked up turn of events that worked out perfectly. I’m very happy now. I love GW, and he loves me. ”

As we do in music, Canadians punch far above our weight in the comedy world. Second City, Lorne Michaels, Kids In the Hall, Baroness Von Sketch - the list goes on and is known around the world. Mike Clattenburg's "Trailer Park Boys" creation seems grown from an entirely different petri dish than the others but its reach and impact is equal. Welcome to Sunnyvale! You can tell the Trailer Park Boys have done well by the cars parked out front of their Dartmouth HQ, filled with video and audio spaces to feed the content machine of Swearnet, with TPB as the anchor of all of it. As I chatted with Robb Wells, Mike Smith and John Paul Tremblay in the office/green-room, they were telling me about an upcoming live tour in Europe, where they were playing to 2000-3000 seat venues. Sold out months in advance. Something about their very specific, very local, very foulmouthed ensemble resonates world wide. They were great guys to talk to - smart, funny, easy-going (if a bit exhausted by their own relentless pace). Then, when we got the word that sound and lighting on set for our podcast recording were ready, Mike put on the Bubbles glasses and the transformation into character was instantaneous. I had a blast doing the interview and hearing Ricky chime in on Bubbles' rendition of Tragically Hip's "Little Bones" was a rare treat. Thanks to Bob Stamp and everyone at Swearnet.com for making it all possible.
