What We Know About Howler

Runa Dogenzaka, codename Howler, is a fashion student and huge fan of the Shibuya mascot, Shichi-kun. She joins the team as a “Phantom Idol”, or cognitive teammate.

Her Japanese voice actress is Mikako Takahashi.

Runa is a Confidant of Wonder’s, though exactly what the earliest point it becomes available at is unclear, as she was added in a later update. Her Confidant focuses on her efforts to revitalize Shibuya, and regain Shichi-kun's popularity. More information about Runa’s Confidant can be found here.

She also had a special animated promo video focused on her.

Runa is heavily implied to be the current actor playing Shichi-kun in Shibuya. Besides her promo video focusing on Shichi-kun for the first half, she frequently "misspeaks" and says that she did something or experienced something, before correcting that it was actually Shichi-kun. She refuses to meet Wonder during the day (which is when the Shibuya mascot stands outside Shibuya station), and becomes flustered in a text message where Wonder suggests the two of them meet Shichi-kun sometime, claiming it would be difficult. She also claims to be in nearly-constant contact with Shichi-kun, passing on information they gain from their investigations. Additionally, the current generation Shichi-kun is the seventh, and notably both Runa and Shichi-kun use the Chinese/Japanese character for 7 (七) in their names. However, Runa never outright admits to anything, and Wonder never asks, though he seems to suspect it.

Runa describes herself as having social anxiety disorder, and this does seem to be the case when interacting with others. She typically becomes very shy and anxious, and will leave Wonder to do most of the talking, or stutter her way through it if she does make an attempt. However, this also seems to wear off quickly enough in most cases where the person is friendly, though she doesn't seem to completely relax. She's also very prone to bursting into tears when feeling strong negative emotion, including sadness, but also when she's generally frustrated, troubled, and even angry.

The main topics she can talk about with ease- and will quickly liven up her entire demeanor the moment they're brought up- are Shibuya and Shichi-kun. Runa is obsessed with both of these topics, and displays a vast knowledge of both of them. She's not quite childish about it, as she can readily acknowledge more negative information and (despite seeing him as his own person) is also acutely aware that Shichi-kun is a mascot who's been played by various actors over the years, but she is extremely enthusiastic. New negative information can be upsetting to her, but it seems like she's easily available to move past it as long as it has a happy ending (ex. the First Generation Shichi-kun trying to slander Shichi-kun's reputation, but later apologizing to her about it).

Runa is also passionate about fashion and sewing (which makes sense, given that's what she's studying in school), and mentions in the Akihabara Puzzle Event that she got into sewing because she handmade her own Shichi-kun doll as a kid, back when there was very little merch for him. While this seems to take a backseat to her interests in Shibuya and Shichi-kun, and she's not prone to infodumping about sewing the way she is about them, it still seems to mean a lot to her. She's also shown to be very skilled at it, even making Wonder a Shichi-kun themed bag at the end of the Akihabara Puzzle Event.

Ultimately, Runa comes across as someone who cares deeply about the things that matter to her, which grows to include Wonder once they get closer. She's very emotive in general, and seems to feel everything to a bit of an extreme. Rather than just being charmed by Naruru, she seems to fall head over heels for her, and rather than just being angry about her stolen doll, she hunts down the thief ruthlessly. Her Confidant seems to focus on her learning what's actually most important to her, though, rather than blindly pursuing her interests. In the Akihabara Puzzle Event, she also prioritizes her and Wonder's wellbeing over tracking down the man sabotaging the event.

At the same time, she does seem to value action over inaction. She begins cleaning up trash all on her own in Shibuya just to make it a cleaner place, and, as mentioned before, directly hunts down the thief that stole her doll in the Akihabara Puzzle Event. Runa is someone who feels very strongly, and puts everything she has into the causes she believes in; she's not all talk (which is good, because of her struggles with talking). While she can come across as a bit floundering and spineless in conversation, she's best characterized by her determination and caring.

Howler's Persona Aura (based on both a nymph and a goddess of the breeze, of the same name) is categorized as a Fire type, and resists Fire while being weak to Wind.

Aura is a Surrender Persona, meaning she’s focused around applying debuffs to gain an advantage, and her trait allows "Warm Welcome" and "Pursuit and Fierce Attack" to unlock her third fire attack skill, as well as giving that skill a 60% chance to reduce the enemy's healing and defense stat for two rounds.

Her first fire attack skill hits all enemies, with a chance to inflict Burn, and reduces their defense, even moreso against incoming fire-type attacks, for two rounds (this defense debuff cannot stack with the one inflicted by her second fire attack skill; this skill also grants her Warm Welcome); her second fire attack skill hits one enemy, reducing their defense for two rounds (again, cannot stack with the first fire attack skill; this skill also grants her Pursuit and Fierce Attack); and her third fire attack skill becomes available for use only when she has Warm Welcome or Pursuit and Fierce Attack, with its effect changing based on which one she has:

Warm Welcome: hits all enemies, and increases the damage they take from fire attacks for two rounds

Pursuit and Fierce Attack: hits one enemy, and increases the damage they take from additional effects for two rounds

Her passive skills boost Howler's attack stat based on her effect hit stat, and also boost her attack stat for one round whenever either A) Howler inflicts a negative status effect on an enemy, B) a teammate uses a fire attack skill, or C) a teammate deals damage with an additional effect.

Her melee weapon is claws, while her ranged weapon is frisbees. You can see her Highlight from 2:47 - 2:59 in this video, and it deals fire damage to all enemies, then inflicts each of them with two levels of Big Bad, which are consumed whenever they take damage from a fire attack or additional effect to increase the damage they take.

Her recommended card sets are 1) 5 of Swords (Defeat) + Queen of Swords (Freedom), 2) 5 of Wands (Strife) + Page of Wands (Acceptance).

The game recommends teaming her up with 1) Dancer Mont, 2) Panther.

FAKY to Enter Hiatus, Final Live in Yokohama Announced

In my heart, I felt a deep sympathy for the kind and strong men who lived through the fierce Bakumatsu era. It’s a painful thing.

How was it, revisiting this character after so long? Please tell us your impression of the performance and anything you kept in mind while acting.

Shimada Kai is the kind of person who lived his life righteous in both body and mind. I’m happy to play him.

What scene do you think has the biggest impact, and what scene do you want people to pay attention to?

The scene where a man known as a demon shows utmost kindness. Rather than communicating it directly, it’s communicated through feeling.

This is a story about the Shinsengumi’s great ambitions. After this, what sort of challenges do you want to tackle?

I’ll try to live each day to its fullest and proceed with diligence in mind.

I thought, “woah! They’re doing it!” After that, I was just immediately excited that I would get to work with everyone again. They’re fun friends.

Please tell us your genuine reaction to your first read-through of the script.

I ended up looking back on my own youth while reading about these young boys who were swallowed by the big wave of the turning point of that time. Even I get sentimental sometimes, you know?

How was it, revisiting this character after so long? Please tell us your impression of the performance and anything you kept in mind while acting.

As far as Kondo-san goes in this work, we share the same thoughts and opinions. I’m always trying to bring that with me.

What scene do you think has the biggest impact, and what scene do you want people to pay attention to?

Many lines and scenes left a personal impact on me, but I won’t say what they were. It’s everything that will stay in the hearts of those who watch.

This is a story about the Shinsengumi’s great ambitions. After this, what sort of challenges do you want to tackle?

Rather than looking for a challenge, I’m just looking forward to seeing how I might change in the future. I think I’m going to become a strange old man… Nyahaha!

INTERVIEW 13 SAYA (Takahashi Mikako)

Please tell us your genuine reaction to the announcement of the movie project.

I was really surprised! And happy to be able to reprise the role that I played over 10 years ago at the very start of my career. The theatrical release also made me realize just how much and for how long fans have loved the work.

Please tell us your genuine reaction to your first read-through of the script.

“I have to take care!” I got really fired up when I thought about how I could film Saya’s first love as she grew up and her life in Shimabara. After that, when I thought about Saya, I got sad and cried a bit. Saizo was a twist, I was worried he wouldn’t appear (laughs). I was relieved that he did. After all, a mascot character is totally necessary! It’s hard to find such a cute pig with such a grumpy expression.

How was it, revisiting this character after so long? Please tell us your impression of the performance and anything you kept in mind while acting.

My chest was so full that I couldn’t see what was around me (laughs). As expected, considering it’s been over 10 years since I played this role. I felt all emotions strongly, both happiness and sadness. I played her with a more mature voice this time, but I kept the innocence she has about her and was careful not to raise my voice too much. I think my heart was just naturally moved when I heard Tetsu’s lines. I just leave Saizo’s voice all up to chance! (laughs)

What scene do you think has the biggest impact, and what scene do you want people to pay attention to?

Saito-san’s line, “even if it’s just for a second, the time will come when you miss this” really left a deep impression. Since the Shinsengumi is the theme here, I thought it was apt when applied to each and every member. I also want you to pay attention to Tetsu bonking Saya’s head! I could cry! And the cry of Tetsu’s heart at the very end just punched me in the chest!

This is a story about the Shinsengumi’s great ambitions. After this, what sort of challenges do you want to tackle?

All I want to do now is travel alone! I’ve been to Hiroshima in Kanto and Seoul, South Korea before, but I want to go somewhere far away for the first time in ages. I want to ride the Ueda Electric Railway Bessho line in Nagano, visit Bessho onsen, eat delicious local food and enjoy Japan to the fullest.

The history of the Shinsengumi really focuses on the daily lives of regular people, and I think you can get the sense that some things don’t change even when the times do. The drama CD ended a while ago, so I was quite surprised to hear suddenly about a movie project. But that surprise quickly turned to excitement.

The conversational drama that happens between people in this story is interesting, of course, but another highlight are the battle scenes. It was a lot of fun to see it in motion.

How was it, revisiting this character after so long? Please tell us your impression of the performance and anything you kept in mind while acting.

Even in the anime, Suzu’s nastiness was alive and well, so I was able to play him to the utmost while having a great time.

What scene do you think has the biggest impact, and what scene do you want people to pay attention to?

Oh geez, I would say “everything”! (laughs) I think that it won’t give you even a second where you’ll want to take your eyes away!! So please keep them open and watch from the very start to the very end (laughs).

I want to do too many things, I can’t write them all here (laughs).

Who do the Magiced Up girls ship with our darling Romiette? Could you imagine the group having whole arguments and debates about who she should end up with 😭😭

THEY WOULD. I think Aisha would be a multi-shipper, though she'd lean more towards Devin x Romiette, but she'd just want Romiette to be happy and loved. Mika would ship her with Lee/Wildcard or High Lord Rango because she thinks it's romantic for a hero to fall in love with a villain (at least pre finding out Hikari is a supervillain). Natsumi wouldn't neccarily ship them, but she would find the angle of Erebus turning Romiette into his dark bride an intresting angle. Yoko would ship her with Carlos soley to write them wrestling in fanfics. Mikako wouldn't really think or care about shipping, probably just see whoever has the most chemistry with Romiette by the end of the series. Akemi would be into Kyle x Romiette or Devin x Romiette.

Bonus: Haruna would call shipping stupid (pre-redemption at least), but she'd find probably ship Romiette with the wealthier love intrests (Robbie or Lee probably) because it would be 'the best way to progress in life' despite Romiette being a fictional character

As previously noted, she's a Fire Surrender teammate, and her Japanese VA is Mikako Takahashi while her Chinese VA is 诺亚 (Seems to translate as the name "Noah", but I'm not sure who that refers to?). Her Persona's name is translating as Aura, which I believe refers to a nymph of the breeze, or perhaps specifically the titan Aura

They're modifying the function that lets you prioritize a Confidant (making it extremely likely they'll be available to spend time with) to now allow you to set a priority for each time period during the day, rather than just one overall! (though I'm not sure why this image seems to be indicating Kayo as being available in both the evening and night? She's only available in the evening)
