Lastly, in 2014, the tiara was worn by Mirhimah Sultan, beautifully portrayed by Pelin Karahan.   Want to see who else wore this piece? Visit our website to find out! Bit.ly/Acces104

~Hümaşah Sultan~
Hümaşah was born Manisa. She might be born in autumn 1543 during visit of Hürrem Sultan or she might be posthume child of Sehzade Mehmed. According to historian Alderson, her mother's name was Aya. It is known that Aya was married off to Pertev Pasha. After Sehzade Mehmed's death, Hümaşah and Aya Hatun moved from Manisa to Istanbul, Old Palace. Hümaşah was close to her grandparents and her cousin, Ayşe Hümaşah, daughter of Mihrimah Sultan and Rüstem Paşa. Perhaps, both girls were educated together. Both of them were close to their uncle Sehzade Cihangir. Apparently an outgoing personality, the teenage Changir was the perfect uncle to his nieces.
In 1566/1567 Hümaşah was married off to the third Vezir, Ferhad Paşa. The marriage lasted 8-9 years till Ferhat Pasha's death on 06. January 1575. The ceremony took place in the Old Palace. From marriage with Ferhad Pasha she had several children. The known ones are: Sultanzade Hüsni, Sultanzade Osman, Fatma Hanimsultan, Sultanzade Ibrahim, Sultanzade Mustafa. They had at least 4 more daughters but the names are unknown, probably because they didn't reached adulthood. It appears that some of the childern were twins. In August 1575, Hümasah remarried to Sokolluzade Lala Mustafa Pasha. But the marriage lasted also till Lala Mustafa Pasha's death, on 7. August 1580. They had a son Sultanzade Sokolluzade Abdülbaki. Her third marriage took place in 1581 with Gaazi Mehmed Pasha who outlived Hümasah. They didn't have children together.Hümasah sultan also educated and trained Safiye and presented her to her cousin Murad, son of Selim Il and Nurbanu. Safiye lived in Hümasah's household after her abduction but Safiye's role in Hümasah's household is still unclear.
Hümasah Sultan died in 1582, the cause of death is unknown. She is buried in Shezade Mosque. The Mosque was built in honor of Hümasah's father, Sehzade Mehmed.
Her children are also buried in Sehzade's mosque.

@mihrimahsultan;;
While only a fool would blindly trust the word that came of unknown strangers, at times it was the only source of information you had to act on and if nothing else, it provided a starting point when venturing into strange waters. The sultana was undeniably something foreign, her language and her culture close to unknown to William, but fearing that wouldn’t serve England well. It was better to know the risks of strangers and the possible advantages of allies, if you asked him.
One of the few things he knew was that the sultana kept her hair covered and he believed that was a religious choice, perhaps something about honor or tempting men. Women staying chaste and being of upstanding morality wasn’t a foreign concept, so that piece of information wasn’t terribly useful beyond knowing the Sultana used different methods to convey her honor.
The other piece of information that he knew, the piece that he was venturing to address her on, was that she was an artist. He thought that she weaved, but William wasn’t too clear on that part and decided it didn’t matter as he approached the Sultana. “Appreciating the artwork, I take it, your Highness?” He asked, bowing. “Is it as fine as what you have at home?”

@mihrimahsultan;;
Portugal’s beauty was something that grew every day in preparation to the Pageant and Cristiano had watched with no small shred of shining wonder in his eyes as things came together to form the perfect evening.
There weren’t any fights, weren’t any declarations of war, and that was a good outcome even if the world hadn’t declared itself to be at peace unanimously. Considering how long it took to get everything organized for the Pageant, it was truly shocking just how quickly it was over, the night feeling as though it passed in the blink of an eye to  Cristiano, but the clean up of the remaining shreds of beauty was something that was almost just as quick.
Soon enough, the only remnants of the loveliness of that night came in the forms of the guests that still lingered in Portugal, royals from various countries housed in different places, in the finest of homes that Portugal had to offer. There were some royals that Cristiano thought he would see more of than others, but he didn’t expect to be graced with one of the beauties of the Ottoman empire.
No matter how he felt about her religion, or her country, Cristiano could admit that she was beautiful, and he would not disrespect her station. “Sultana, to what do I owe this unexpected pleasure?”

@mihrimahsultan  */  𝒄𝒍𝒐𝒔𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒓𝒕𝒆𝒓.
         The night breeze was warm and quiet, rustling softly as it blew against the window panes and filtered through the swaying oak trees. It carried with it the scent of brine from the Tagus, gently lapping against the Lisbon riverside. It was dark, too, save for the sky, irritated with brightly-twinkling stars, that shone down on the sprawling courtyard that the Palácio de Pena overlooked. Beyond, there were only shadows of a forrest that existed behind the palace walls. There was a twisted sense of irony, one that was not lost on Dilşah’s head, in that the space requisitioned for the Ottoman retinue was one of Catholic birthright –– transformed, in the last century, from convent to castle. Within these walls, men of the clergy had reached out to God and His own hand had been jutted out in acceptance, and yet it would now house what the Braganzas would no doubt consider godlessness. Perhaps they meant for the Sultan’s party to absorb their God’s energy from the walls, as potent as the smell of fresh-paint. Perhaps they were meant to breathe in His power as they treaded the hallways monks and their prayers had once freely roamed.
Peering out into the inky emptiness, shadowy figures dancing in the distance, a hand wavered over her stomach, suddenly in knots. An unease had pitted within her abdomen that proved onerous to place a name to. The sight of glum twilight descending, sweeping smokily across the lawn, had rendered her humours leaden, evident in the rigid furrow between her brows as she thought, and thought, and thought. Pondering consumed her. Trepidation refused to remain at bay. That was, until, the shrill sound of a girl’s laughter pierced her thoughts and brought her, with a palpable shiver, back to reality.
Tumblr media
Dilşah’s head snapped to the sound of tittering, eyes nailed to the Sultanas who were gossiping over a game of cards. The eldest of whom, Mirhimah, stood out to her as the ringleader. Ever like her grandmother, Dilşah noted with the narrowing of her gaze, for better or for worse. “Sultana. Your sisters will need to retire soon,” She reminded, forthright. Waltzing over to the girls, she lowered to sit Indian-style on the carpet beside them, and scooped the youngest, Şirin, into her lap. The girl’s head lulled tiredly against her chest. “Tell me. What is it you three find so amusing? You sound like maidens gushing over tall-tales of chivalry.”

        “ sevgilim kız, i hope you are pleased with the rooms your have been given? ” nehir announced her presence as she was welcomed into mihrimah’s rooms by the servants whom all halted in their tasks of readying for the arrival celebrations. with her feet now on dry land and a ‘diagnosis’ confirmed, the haseki sultan was quick to brush aside any fears that she was seriously unwell but there were none she wished to reassure more than her children; especially in the hours before the grand spectacle was to begin. “ oh, my mihrimah, how beautiful you are! ” with such overwhelm in her heart at the sight of her daughter as a woman grown, nehir extended her arms to her for a welcoming embrace as a servant of her own caught up; holding in her arms a veil of luxurious silk. “ i thought you might like a new veil for the festivities, after all, your comfort here is paramount. ”
