RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne dies aged 32

RuPaul’s Drag Race UK winner The Vivienne has died at the age of 32.

Viv’s manager Simon Jones announced the tragic news with “immense sadness” in a pair of Instagram posts.

“Our beloved James Lee Williams – The Vivienne – has passed this weekend,” he wrote.

“James was an incredibly loved, warm-hearted and amazing person.

“Their talent was immense and the light they brought to every room was astonishing. No one has ever made me laugh in my life as much as Viv did. Their comic genius and quick wit was like no other.”

The Vivienne won the first series of Drag Race UK in 2019, and went on to also appear in the seventh season of RuPaul’s Drag Race All Stars.

The drag artist was also a rising musical theatre performer in the UK, with roles in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and The Wizard of Oz.

“It’s tragic that their career was only just beginning,” Simon said.

“In musical theatre Viv had found a space and career they loved, excelled and thrived in.

“Their family are heartbroken at the loss of their son, brother and uncle. They are so proud of the wonderful things James achieved in their life and career.

“We will not be releasing any further details. We please ask that James’s family are given the time and privacy they now need to process and grieve.”

James said he was “heartbroken and devastated” by Viv’s death.

“RIP my wonderful friend. You left us way too soon.”

Drag Race stars heartbroken by The Vivienne’s death

Tributes have flowed to The Vivienne after the shocking and heartbreaking news of the performer’s death.

Drag Race judge Michelle Visage said, “Heartbreaking, I don’t know how to say how I feel.

“My darling @thevivienne_ we go back to when I started coming over here to the UK. You were always there, always laughing, always giving, always on point.

“Your laughter, your wit, your talent, your drag. I loved all of it but I loved your friendship most of all. You were a beacon to so many.

“Seeing you make your West End debut was amazing for me to witness your dream come true right in front of my eyes. I’m the lucky one to have known you and to have laughed together with you so many times.

“I love you my darling. You will be so missed my lovely. May your light shine fiercely, forever. RIP MY ANGEL fly high.”

Drag Race UK and UK vs the World star Tia Kofi wrote, “This is an incredible loss to the British drag community and to the world.

“Viv represented UK drag at its absolute finest on stage and screen internationally. She was a mentor, an inspiration and a friend.

“This shock will be felt deeply by us all. Love you Viv.”

Michelle Visage stuns in new Drag Race Down Under promo

Michelle Visage is looking snatched in a new promo for for the newly retitled Drag Race Down Under season four.

In social media posts this morning, Michelle Visage serves leather and lace in the new promo that confirms a Barbie Dream House theme for season four.

“It’s MY house now, dolls,” Michelle said in the post as she officially takes over hosting duties.

Michelle also confirmed that we’re finally meeting the season four queens next Thursday (October 10 Aussie time).

Drag Race Down Under season four filmed in Auckland earlier in the year.

We found out shortly after filming that RuPaul is out as host and Michelle Visage is taking over, but we’ve been waiting for months for the season to arrive.

Right now, Down Under favourite Kween Kong is on RuPaul’s Drag Race Global All Stars. That new spinoff delayed Down Under, but Global All Stars is finishing with episode 12 – its finale – on October 25.

Drag Race Down Under judge Rhys Nicholson also admitted recently that they “have no idea when season four’s coming out,” joking that it has to squeeze in between “1000 new franchises” that include “Drag Race Guam”.

(Don’t forget, Hannah Conda had to wait an entire year for her season of UK vs The World to start.)

But we know how the new season will work: Ru officially passed the newly retitled show on to Michelle Visage. Aussie comedian Rhys Nicholson is also returning to season four’s judging panel.

To allow some drag queens to actually judge the drag, a roster of previous Drag Race queens will also return, sitting alongside the usual celebrity guest judges.

The season four lineup of ten queens includes our Aussies from Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
