If the trademark Leonardo Hamato Instinct is basically Leo mothering/adopting everyone and everything and going to either cut something, stab someone or throw his swords at it, then the Michelangelo Hamato Instinct is basically Mikey stealing cars, possibly getting into fights with people/law enforcement and befriending everyone and everything.
And honestly I find that super funny.

The Clan Wars Character Intro: Mikey
Here’s some info about my boy:
• Mikey is a 14 year old black breasted leaf turtle
• he is very vocal about the fact that he never wanted to be a ninja in the first place.
• Mikey’s personality is more rebellious, energetic, sassy, loving, and loyal to those he cares abour
• he has ADHD and tends to find meditation and constant practice boring. He physically can’t stand still for longer then 5 minutes so he’s never been good at the discipline aspects of ninjitsu. When they get on his case about it, he would spare with someone, going all out, win, then leave, just to prove he’s still good, even if he struggles.
• as in any iteration, Mikey is very naturally talented in the fighting aspect. He is very instinctual about it and tends to priorities defense and wait for the best moment to strike against an opponent.
• he always had a tendency to try and slip away from the clan as a kid, to which clan members would always hound him about how he’s “just like Yoshi” because “he ran away as a kid to and returned mutilated. Karma will find you too one day” and this royally pisses Mikey off. He’s very defensive of his father.
• When the boys move to New York, Mikey is the one to adapt to the culture the easiest. He learns to be a normal teenager, picks up graffiti and skate boarding and introduces his brother’s to these things.
• He’s also the one to meet Casey Jones and in turn be introduced to April first. He brings them to his brothers and thats how everyone meets the humans.
• big thing about Mikey is that no matter what, if one of his brothers gives him an order, he will obey. No matter what. Only for one of them though. He never questions an order given by one of his brothers and would keep fighting even if he was about to die if Leo asked him to.
Turtle Instincts:
• Mikey was mutated mere days after being hatched. He had the least amount of time to develop any sort of life run by more then instincts. Because of this, as he grows up, he finds it the hardest to suppress his turtle instincts.
• Mikey HATES water. Absolutly despises it. Will go weeks without taking a shower if not called out for it. Even then, he refuses to bathe with anything besides Dawn dish soap. “If it’s good enough for baby ducks it’s good enough for me”
• Mikey loves 2 things when it comes to food. Spices, and fruit. He doesn’t care how old the fruit is, he will munch on it. Donnie thinks it’s gross
• his eyes don’t tend to focus properly, often looking in different directions, especially when he’s zoned out which, he does a lot.
• he tends to prefer being alone and often seeks it out. He often wonders if that’s one of his instincts or just due to feeling separated from his brothers growing up. Donnie believes it’s instinct related, having looked into each of their species
• he can react really fast and is the quickest of the 4.
AAAAAAAAnd that’s Mikey! I have more about him but I’ll leave it at that! More to come! Hope you enjoyed!

Big Brawl rewatch, let's goooooo
Part 1
"But we need not fear the past. It is the future we must fear." Gotta love it whenever Splinter is narrating the cold opening.
I feel like Splinter should know at this point in the series that if he tells his sons not to do something, they are going to do it anyway.
Also, I keep forgetting that the Battle Nexus takes place every three years, not four. (Why do I keep thinking it's four?)
"Nice going, Donny. You got any chalk in your magic bag of tricks?" Honestly, it would be hilarious if one of the only things Donny doesn't have in his duffel bag is something practical, like a pen or a pack of tissues.
All of the turtles staring at Michelangelo when he reveals he knows what a nexus. The reason being because he, like Donatello, watches Star Trek. Pfffffft
ATTACK OF THE TOOTHPICKS
Once again, I love it whenever the animation suddenly becomes a lot smoother and more detailed during action/fight scenes like this
I'm not surprised that Leo is so upset over his swords being broken during this quick fight. (I mean they're the same swords he forged with Raph back in "The Monster Hunter.")
There is something I really love about the Gyoji as a character and I do not know what it is. His voice? How calm, composed, chill, and reasonable he is? The fact he literally dies at the end of the arc and yet he's brought back during "Grudge Match" as if nothing happened?
The Gyoji is actually god
Turtles see Splinter being attacked by someone unfamiliar; first instinct is to try and help him. These boys love their dad <3
Raphael instantly admitting he was the one who talked Leonardo into following Splinter when Splinter starts scolding Leo... If I had to pick one thing I love about his character, it is the fact he does take responsibility for his actions.
Tell me again why the Djinn was never brought back after this arc? He seems like a nice guy and I wanna see what his dimension looks like.
I'd say of the Big Brawl Episodes, Part 1 is probably my least favorite? But it's entirely circumstantial seeing as this is basically the exposition episode explaining the Battle Nexus and Splinter's history with the competition.
The first appearance of Usagi... Even as a pre-teen, he is powerful. Though why was he at the Battle Nexus three years ago? Was Katsuichi competing maybe? Gimme the lion sensei, damn it.
Drako is such a piss baby loser jesus
I adore this moment where Splinter agrees to let Leo, Raph, Don, and Mikey compete. He's been very overprotective of his boys for the longest time, but he's starting to realize that they are growing up and becoming more independent.
I still firmly believe that had the Fast Forward reboot never happened, TMNT 2003 would have been the first animated iteration to kill off Splinter. Just saying.
I never realized how much of a giant the Ultimate Ninja is compared to the turtles, holy shit
I recall seeing a theory somewhere that the reason Leonardo didn't get a mystic weapon in Season 5 is because of his katanas getting reforged in the Battle Nexus, where the swordsmith likely used magic to get the job done quickly? I dig it.
TRAXIMUS
Forever kills me how even though the turtles never got a chance to meet Hamato Yoshi, they still revere him as an ancestral figure (especially Leo, since this episode ends with him praying in front of his statue.)
Also you're about to be assassinated, Leo. Leo. LEO.

Withering Butterflies || future Michelangelo story
TW: Spirits, main character is dying and is aware of this. Mention of passed loved ones (who are also confirmed to be just fine and here)
When a mystic warrior is close to death, no matter the cause or reason of their passing- there are signs.
Signs their mystic magic sends out because it can sense that death is near, that it won't be long before it's time to leave the mortal realm, that their clock is almost done ticking. Such signs could be exhaustion, illness, a following sense of doom, weakened mystic magic, losing control of said magic, mystic aging, increase in visions-
Seeing spirits.
Not like his ancestors whom he tried to talk with on purpose. No, in his everyday life.
This is what they would call Mystic Sickness.
It didn't matter what you died off- it could be because of mystic magic, an attack, it didn't matter. Your mystic energies would sense it. It will let you know. It will make sure you know.
Michelangelo had ignored the signs for as much as he could- the mystic aging was because of the overuse of his ninpo, the exhaustion and loss of appetite was because of said aging, the sense of doom that followed him everywhere was normal they lived in the apocolypse-
He really had ignored it, for as long as he could.
Until the first butterfly had landed on his snout.
The white, glowing butterfly.
Butterflies had gone instinct years ago.
As soon as Michelangelo had seen that first butterfly... he knew he couldn't ignore it anymore.
He was dying.
Hamato Michelangelo was not afraid of death.
He knew he would die much younger than everyone else- he had always known. He was the only mystic warrior the resistance had, the only one who could cure those corrupted by Krang, the only one who could heal, the strongest out of them- which resulted in the overuse of his ninpo. He had assumed it would be his mystic powers that killed him.
He was right.
But no one needed to know that.
Instead of going to Leonardo, like he probably should, Mikey had ignored it. He had ignored how sick he felt, he ignored his hair that fell off in chunks, he ignored the sense of doom that seemed to get worse, he ignored the butterflies that only he could see that followed him everywhere.
...Butterflies that seemed to get more each and each day. The amount of spirits that seemed to be more, much more, following him around-
Until he had sensed the first spirit in Donnie's lab.
"...It is sad to see you sensing me so soon, Michelangelo."
Mikey had just smiled, gently closed the door behind him, and opened his eyes. "Good to see you again, Bary."
"Is it?" The sheep yokai crossed his arms, that same annoyed yet worried scowl on his face that Mikey had missed so much. His body was glowing cyan and his pupils were gone, just like every other spirit he had met until now- did that mean he was Hamato? He wasn't sure, the man didn't have the Hamato symbol- "-because I had hoped to see you hit your forties before you joined us."
Mikey smiled. "Heh... h-hah... hic..."
His smile fell.
He covered his mouth and allowed himself this moment of weakness- letting the orange-glowing tears drip down his cheeks as he slid onto the floor- his legs were too weak to hold him up. Part of the reason he had started floating everywhere. His legs were too weak to stand on.
The butterflies that had been surrounding him went down with him, landing all over his shoulders and head, trying to drink his tears. Michelangelo didn't know what was worse- the fact he was crying like a child... or the fact that the spirits seemed to think they were on the same plane of existence.
"...Oh, child." Draxum bent down next to him- he didn't have any of the old scars he had gotten, Mikey noted. The spirit winced at the orange tears, knowing full well they shouldn't be that color, but didn't comment on it. "You look so tired, Michelangelo."
"I am." The turtle wept, wincing when his tears burned his fingers. He shivered at the sensation of ghostly fingers touching his cheek- it felt cold. So cold.
As cold as he had been feeling, for the past couple of weeks.
Hamato Michelangelo was not afraid of death.
He knew his passing would be painful- probably by his magic ripping him into a thousand tiny pieces, or maybe he would get stabbed or something by Krang- he didn't know. He didn't care.
He foresaw all possible futures, all the possible outcomes, all the possible ways he would wither away. Made sure to be prepared, made sure to fight alone so no one would see him perish. Yet, he was worried.
Worried because until now, he hadn't been able to communicate with any of his family. "Where are my-"
"With your brother." Draxum pulled away, sat down properly, and folded his hands in his lap. "They didn't want to leave, but Leonardo seemed to be having a hard time."
...
"...They're... here?" Mikey could have cried with that knowledge if he hadn't been crying already, but didn't know if that was because of relief or hurt. They had been here? Here? All this time? When he had been searching for his brother's spirits... they had been he here? He... they never left?
They never left them alone.
They hadn't been resting like he'd hoped.
"...Cassandra is here as well," Draxum muttered, recognizing that his adoptive son was getting stuck in his own head again. "She wanted to make sure that Leonardo didn't raise her son to be a, and I quote, 'whimp'."
Mikey snorted. He couldn't help the giggles, covering his mouth with both hands. That sounded like Cassandra alright. She had seen him grow up after all? It... wasn't the best way, but- it was something.
"...Would you like to speak with your father?"
His head snapped up. Mikey looked at the spirit with disbelief, bloodshot eyes blown wide. "...Dad is here too?"
"He never left."
"..." The turtle curled up and winced once his legs ached at the movement. With a flick of his hand, his mystic magic lifted his legs and curled them to his chest. Mikey thought, for a moment... and then shook his head.
"...I doubt I could see him anyway." He mumbled. A butterfly got close to his cheek when a single tear slipped down.
"...I know." Draxum sighed. "I assume I'm the first spirit you're seeing?"
He nodded.
Selfishly, Michelangelo had hoped to find Donatello today, once he sensed the spirit in the lab. But thats okay. He would see him soon enough.
"I'm dying."
Not a question. A statement.
"But you already knew that, didn't you?"
Instead of answering, Michelangelo held out his hand. Another butterfly landed on his finger. Draxum sighed, muttered under his breath, and shook his head. "If you had stopped using mystic magic when I told you to you wouldn't be."
"I was needed." He watched the tiny creature's wings- so fragile, so small- so beautiful. No wonder it hadn't survived this world. "I didn't have a choice, Barry."
"Your magic is destroying you as we speak." Another grumble. "Your future visions are getting out of hand."
The turtle couldn't help it- he cracked a smile. "...You know about those?"
"You wake up floating in the air surrounded by mystic particles and many spirits all around you." The man crossed his arms. "I'm surprised Leonardo hasn't noticed yet."
"I don't want him to know." Mikey cringed when he felt some hair slip down his cloak when he shifted his position to sit more comfortably, then winced when his legs ached. He sighed, defeated. And with the flick of his hand, mystic magic lifted up his legs and crossed them.
Another butterfly settled on his knee.
"...Do you know how you're going to..."
"No." He didn't know if that was good or bad. Michelangelo knew it was important to stay prepared... but he didn’t exactly want to predict his own death. That was just how his visions worked. They were set in stone.
...Which brought up another issue.
"...I can't die yet, Draxum." A single tear slipped down his cheek, which immediately caused a swarm of butterflies to get closer to his face. "I'm needed here."
"You've destroyed yourself doing too much." Blunt, without sugar-coating it- yep, that was Draxum alright. "Your body can't hang on anymore. I'm sorry, Michelangelo."
If he had the energy, the turtle would fight it.
He would get up, say something about how you needed to do more to take this turtle down, then either get S.H.E.L.L.D.O.N. to scan him or attempt to heal himself, fail, find some books, a cure- something.
But he was just so tired.
Hamato Michelangelo was not afraid of death.
He knew what death was. He knew what it felt like. Cold, lonely, dark. At least. That was what death used to be. These days, death seemed warm. Peaceful. Lovely. And even though he couldn't sense their spirits yet, knowing the rest of his family was near and waiting, made it look so so much better. Heck, even the spirits with him right now- they felt cool, sure. But not freezing. This was a nice cool he used to feel when there used to be Summer breezes, offering relief amongst all the heat and allowing him to breathe.
But just as death had changed... so had life.
Life, which used to be joyful and warm and happy and bright, had turned dark and cold and full of grief. Never full, never well rested, always on the move, always dirty, always cold. Being cold bothered him the most, for some reason. Probably because instinct kept screaming at him to brumate but the turtle couldn't let himself.
Life had changed. So had death. And the other, brighter side didn't seem as bad anymore.
But...
"What about Leo?"
Draxum turned his head back so quickly, looking shocked and... something else. "...You are the one dying. Let me repeat that. Dying. And you worry about your brother?"
"I can't leave him, Barry..."
"He has April and Casey."
"It's not the same."
When their father had been... lost. The four had been together. They had grieved, they buried him somewhere worthy, they prayed.
When Raph had... left. The three had been there. They had been there the moment the building collapsed on top of him, had been with him as he moved from one plane of existence to the other, unwilling to let go and holding onto each other instead.
When Donnie...
...
"What will happen to them when I'm gone, Barry?" His breath hitched in ways it hadn't done for what felt like eons. His shoulders started shaking as he tried to curl up- but the pain that shot up his legs made him freeze instead, which just. Did it.
He couldn't move his legs. He knew damn well why.
Draxum's expression softened as he watched the turtle fall apart, watched the butterflies land all over his face to try and lap up his tears- it was fine. He could be weak. Just this once.
Hamato Michelangelo was not afraid of death.
Heck, he even longed for the warmth and love on the other side.
But...
Magic lifted his legs so he could curl up as he wanted to, and pulled up his cloak so his head was hidden, ignoring the hair that fell at the action alone. He buried his head in his knees, hugged himself, and- apologized.
How selfish.
To leave this cold, horrible world... when he was still needed here.
Needed by April, who needed her little brother to try and light up others- the only positive thing left.
Needed by Casey, who had lost his mother at such a young age, lost half his uncles, and shouldn't be losing another...
Needed by Leo.
Leo, who still blamed himself for something that wasn't his fault every single day. Leo, who started leading the resistance at such a young age to make up for said thing. Leo, who kept trying to give his portions of food because the younger brother just looked so sickly.
How selfish would he be to leave?
He couldn't do that to Leo. Not to Leo.
"They'll find ways to go on." The yokai mumbled, getting closer and letting a ghostly hand rest on Mikey's shell. It felt cold. A nice cold. But still, the mutant flinched away. No. "They've got each other."
"Leo won't survive, Barry." Mikey cried, looking up- okay the tears were starting to burn. It hurt. But at least that meant he was alive. "He barely did after Donnie. He can't. He won't... Barry. I can't leave yet."
"..." Draxum let a butterfly land on his finger. Looked at the insect, lost in thoughts. "...I'm afraid you do not have a choice."
He knew that. He had known for quite a while, even when the turtle tried to lie to himself and make up excuses for all of his symptoms.
But this...
He couldn't lie to himself anymore. Not for this. There was no other explanation as to why he was seeing spirits.
Hamato Michelangelo was not afraid of death.
He was afraid of what would happen to Leonardo after.

OKAY— so like, we had scenarios of which the B-Team were raised by the Shredder, but what if it was the A-Team??
Shredder telling both Leonardo and Raphael (who now goes by Takeō and Akihitō respectively) lies about their younger littermates (Donatello and Michelangelo, whom he named as Junkō and Kōta)— telling them that their younger siblings have been ruthlessly killed by Hamato Yoshi, who had deemed them as an abomination.
In fact, Shredder wasn't even aware of the existence of the younger two; at least, not until both Takeō and Akihitō brought it up a few months after they were officially able to carry out missions and daily patrol. However, he couldn't deny that it's truly a blessing— there's a chance that they might know of Hamato Yoshi's location, and even then, Shredder can expand his army of powerful mutants.
Donatello and Michelangelo, on the other hand, aren't so thrilled about having to 2v2 their older brothers at just about everytime. There's also that the two have the tendency to play dirty. Stalking their friends and whatnot, it's driving them up the wall.
I don't know if Karai should be with the Shredder, because her rivalry with the A-Team over the younger onces is delicious.
What do you think?
I love this. No, no, wait, see my vision, look-
Takeō and Akihitō are everything that Shredder needs them to be. They took up training from the moment that their little legs could walk and they excelled past anything that he’d ever seen before, and one of Shredder’s greatest fighters happens to be blind, mind you, so he knows what greatness looks like.
He knows it has to relate to the fact that they’re mutants, but he couldn’t care less. With one student who bears a determination to please and the other with the violent fury to be molded like his own, they’re better than an entire legion of Foot soldiers. Takeō makes sure every command is followed and Akihitō leaves no enemy unpunched- what could be better?
They’re perfect. No, they’re better than perfect. They’re a miracle.
One that he never hesitates to take advantage of. If Yoshi had done one thing right in his lifetime, it was leading him to them.
And then- AND THEN-
Enter Mikey and Donnie.
The universe throws out two turtles with on obvious ignorance of surface life and an instinct to defend those that dwell on it. Leo and Raph’s world is thrown out of whack the first time that they spot them- considering Mikey is a younger-shaped replica of them with freckles. They keep an curious eye on them from a distance, but uncertain what to make of them, don’t interact.
They inquire about it to their father and (considering Saki likely stole them from Yoshi) he fabricates a story that horrifies them. They already know about Yoshi and how he killed Karai’s mother- but he tore apart their family too?
Afterward, it takes about five seconds to connect the dots on who these mutant turtles are. They go out to track down and reconnect with their brothers. *insert canon plot stuff*
When Donnie and Mikey try to save a kidnapped April, they fail pretty badly. The Saki brothers step in, stop the Kraang from taking the girl before Donnie and Mikey’s brains get blown out, but don’t really do much about them taking the dad. They don’t really care about the humans. They’re far more interested in prodding the turtles.
And, after taking April to her aunt’s, prodding absolutely happens from both sides.
The childish giddy air of the Junkō and Kōta upon finding their siblings obviously cements them as the younger siblings in the Saki brother’s minds. They don’t doubt for a moment that they are who they say they are because Splinter told them that they had two missing brothers as little kids.
Mind made up, Leo insists that they come home. Mikey insists that they have a home and Donnie admits they shouldn’t really wander off with strangers. They both vocalize that their rat dad needs to meet them first since he’s the one who lost them and he’s misses them and they don’t have to abandon their dad or anything, they just really want them to meet Splinter! (The Foot symbols on their gear mean nothing to the Hamatos and the name Splinter means nothing to the Sakis. Oopsy.)
And so they wait around for Mikey and Donnie to collect Splinter and then Splinter comes across his sons and Leo and Raph are tolerant until he introduces himself as Hamato Yoshi and then it all clicks that the man who Shredder thought killed their brothers and he had stolen them away instead and he’s the reason that they haven’t see them for fifteen years-
They don’t even give Yoshi time to explain before they’re attempting to eliminate the threat. Donnie and Mikey are insanely confused until one of the brothers lets it slip that their dad is Saki and- oh wait are they evil?!- so now there’s fighting, attempted forced reasoning and kidnapping of little brothers, but the Hamatos manage to get away.
So now Leo and Raph’s are simply DISTRAUGHT because the madman had stolen and brainwashed their little brothers so how were supposed to focus on anything else when they’re out there but actively on the wrong side of this war??
It trashes their game and suddenly his miracle team is no longer a shinning example of perfection. Once again, Yoshi has ruined something great and, instead of seething, Saki gets creative.
He fakes an understanding with what his sons are going through and expresses a wish that he knew where Yoshi was so that he could put an end to the threat. If only, they could find the lair where he was keeping their brothers prisoner, maybe then they rid the world of the rat and bring them home. Once they’re free from Yoshi’s dark influence, they could all be one happy family.
And Leo, like the helpful little leader he is, realizes that they could find the lair. Him and Raph could totally find a way to convince the brothers to take them home, or even find a way to get in without their knowledge. They were ninjas, masters of deception and lies. They could do it, Master, if only he would give them a chance?
So he does because an end to Yoshi and two new powerful warriors is more than he could hope for. Exactly what he deserves.
And the rest of the series is just Raph and Leo doing everything in their power to inch their way into their brother’s trust. They stalk them in a desperate itch to make sure they’re okay, which leads to them intercepting and assisting on a bunch of Kraang mission.
They run into each other when Donnie and Mikey try to stop the Foot from being evil, and Leo and Raph are more concerned with making sure nothing happens to their brothers that the Hamato brothers end up completing their mission more often than not.
Leo and Raph are still dedicated to the Foot but their priorities are skewed every time their brother come into play. Nine times out of ten, baby brothers take first priority. And Saki lets these mishaps happen because his sons are insistent upon gaining the Hamatos trust.
It doesn’t take Donnie and Mikey long to realize what Leo and Raph are doing, protecting-them wise. They don’t quite understand it, but they assume that even though they have been misguided and brainwashed by Shredder, they still are good people deep down. It’s incredibly annoying that they are always in the way and can’t seem to realize how what they’re doing is obviously evil, though.
Like plotting younger siblings do, they adapt to use the brother’s new apparent weakness against them, putting themselves in situations where the Saki brothers have no choice but to interviene- even if that means slicing their own bots or preventing their own missions from succeeding. And the best part is that the Saki brothers have no idea that they’re being played- they really just believe that their baby brothers are kinda bad at their jobs.
Which really doesn’t help with the whole PROTECT alarms constantly ringing in their brains.
As for Karai, I think she would still be with the Foot, but instead of a doting older sister, there would be jealousy vibes. She’d been overshadowed her entire life by these ‘perfect’ brothers and she jumps at the opportunity to impress her father when they start slipping. She could even play an antagonist role- actively trying to dissuade her father’s approval of Leo&Raph’s activities in order to get a better standing. She doesn’t want them murdered at the stake or anything, simply taken out of the favoritism role so that his actual human daughter (or so she thinks) can have a scrap of his attention.
I WAS GOING TO STOP HERE BUT YOU HAVE ME THINKING ABOUT PLOT AND SUCH NOW-
Like, Donnie would now be the eldest with the responsibilities of genius and leader, which means that he probably feels like his baby brother’s one line of defense against an entire universe. Splinter didn’t train his boys for war- but Saki did. Imagine the pressure on his shoulders to keep his family safe while actively on deadly missions with brothers who could turn on them at any second, stuck under the weight of wanting to get April reunited with her missing family.
Leo’s side of the spectrum is spent worrying that two of his brothers are under the abusive care of their kidnapper. He desperately hones the “but I can totally bring them to our side and make them see things our way!” attitude that he has for Karai during the canon series. He does everything in his power to keep the blame from falling on them when missions go wrong, fabricating stories for their father, like he’s always done to keep Raph out of trouble. He doesn’t care for the Hamato’s missions, but he cares greatly for their safety, so he makes sure they tag along at every opportunity, whether they are wanted or not. Stalking is never out of the question, even if it doesn’t take long for the Hamatos to adapt to their presence.
I CAN’T SHUT UP ABOUT THIS SUDDENLY:
So there’s this song “Our Word” from 36 questions that absolutely has the vibes from this au that has taken root in my brain and when I think of Leo being a sneaky little guy and keeping Raph out of trouble- IT FITS. Well, these specific verses anyway:
When I was a little [boy] Like really little, like eight or so I was playing in my father's study A place in the house I wasn't supposed to go
My father fancied himself a sailor His study was filled with nautical decor He kept a boat in a bottle on the top of a shelf And it shattered on the ground when I slammed the door
I told my [brother] everything I told [him] I was so, so sorry [He] told me, "Don't cry, When he comes home tonight We can make everything okay This is all we have to say"
"We don't remember a boat in a bottle It must've fallen off its shelf alone We know you loved it, we're so sad it's broken But neither one of us was even home"
And it's our word Yes, our word Against his
HOLY MOTHER OF MUTATIONS I AM DEVOURING THIS AU AND NOW I HAVE RETURNED WITH CONCEPT:
“You shouldn’t be out alone.”
Donnie lands as irritation crawls up his spine and becomes fuzzy little ambers in his brain. He has a few irrational thoughts, such as giving the nuisance a taste of throwing stars, but they’re dismissed as he pretends to check his t-phone. He can sense one entity behind him, but his partner doesn’t seem to be hovering nearby.
He turns, t-phone at his side, the cheese phone on speed-dial. He doubts the Foot ninja wants to kill him, but if this is another kidnapping attempt…
Well. Better safe than sorry.
“Apperently, I’m not. Need something?”
“You almost got caught tonight.” Takeō cocks his head, face passive. “You shouldn’t be breaking into military junkyards. There have to be safer options. There’s a place in Chinatown. Less guns.”
“Well, as soon as civilians throw out this kind of equipment,” Donnie pats the bag on his hip. “I’ll consider it.”
He frowns. “You’re taking risks.”
“Weren’t your men trying to slit my throat last week?”
“That was not my doing.”
“Oh, sure, Shredder doesn’t want to lure Splinter out of hiding and you would never kidnap me or Mikey, right?”
“I didn’t know about Bradford’s scheme until it was to late.” Takeō scans his face and Donnie denies the sincerity any thought. “You have to believe us- why else would we help you escape?”
“To earn our trust? For future blackmail? As some part of some evil Foot plot to hurt Sensei?” Donnie sneers. “I don’t care what your excuse is when you made my brother bleed.”
“I told Bradford to back off, but I can only do so much.” The tone is defensive, but his frown softens guiltily. “I can’t stop the bots from doing their programing. Maybe if my clan did not see you as a threat- if you would rethink your position-”
His grip tightens over the t-phone. “This is not a conversation that I am entertaining. Goodbye, Takeō.”
“Wait-”
He does not.
And then Takeō is across the rooftop and roughly taking hold of his arm before he can take more than two steps. The t-phone clatters, adrenaline surging as he stops dead in his tracks. His attention shoots from the weapon on the warrior’s hip and then to the blue gaze that is drilling holes into his skull.
He swallows, proud that his voice doesn’t shake. “Let go.”
Takeō tightens his hold. He steps forward, their gazes locked, face unreadable. Donnie thinks it might be an intimation tactic, but he’s not scared, per say. His gut squirms in discomfort and he feels weirdly small despite being inches taller. He expects a low warning, or some kind of dark threat to cut the air between them.
Instead, he gets a soft promise laced so heavily in passion that it might as well have been shouted across the rooftops.
“I would never hurt my brothers.”
Donnie is silent for several seconds.
“You’re hurting me right now.”
Takeō tears his hand away as though he just found out that Donnie was radioactive. Donnie rubs the area, mostly for show, in the hopes of dissuading him from trying that again.
“…I-I meant…” Donnie looks up. No hesitation crosses his face, but his words come with uncertainty. “Not like that. Never like that.”
Donnie humphs.
“Is- Is Kōta-”
“Mikey.”
Takeō stares and Donnie glares back.
The warrior relents. “How is he?”
“It was a flesh wound.” Donnie picks up the t-phone, unsure why he’s telling him anything. “He’s already back to being a hassle.”
A beat of quiet. “I suppose that means we’ll be reunited soon.”
“To kick your shells in? Yeah. Probably.” Donnie puts away his device, looking somewhere over Takeō’s shoulder to the bulky shadow who has been inching closer through the extent of their conversation.
“You know, family means more to me than biology. Shocking to hear from a scientist, I know.” He pauses for effect, considering. “A family with differences is still a family. You might be serious about this whole hurting thing when it comes to Mikey and me…” He narrows his eyes and trains the hostility on the piercing gaze. “But if I find out that you even thought about touching my father again, you can forget any chance of brotherhood. I might seem like a weak joke to you, but I promise that I can make your life a living hell.”
Donnie stares him down, grip tight over the strap of the bag filled with weaponry that he’ll use to make Metalhead truly surface worthy so nothing can harm Mikey again, and dares Takeō to challenge him.
“There’s no stronger warrior than one whose greatest virtue is their loyalty.” Takeō decides simply. “And there is nothing more that I’d expect from a brother.”
Donnie is pretty sure that’s a compliment. He’s not sure what that he to do with backing off his father, but he accepts it.
He releases the bag. “Glad we understand each other.”
He turns his back to the ninja, looking over his shoulder. “And don’t have Akihitō follow me home.”
Takeō stiffens, eyes widening. He smirks. “See you later, bro.”
With a burst of speed, he takes off.
To their credit, they don’t follow.
Donnie knows better to assume that this’ll be the last time he has eyes on his shell. But, for the first time, he thinks he won’t mind.

TMNT PIA: Character introduction - Michelangelo
Here’s an overall rundown on the goodest boy.
Hamato-Teng Michelangelo is a red eared slider, he’s 17 years old, 5’9” and goes by he/they pronouns, aromantic, pansexual. He’s also the oldest of the four turtles. Like with every version of Michelangelo, he likes to goof around and have a good time usually by annoying the living daylights out of his younger brothers, but this time it’s also paired up with a protective, responsible oldest sibling trait that is typically seen with Leo, leading to him being the annoying older brother who loves to tease and have a laugh at his younger siblings, but he does know when to quit. Like with most iterations, Mikey is a big fan of comic books, TV and of course, pizza.
I would actually say that this version of Mikey is sort of a combination of multiple different takes on the character, the main ones being 03, the 07 movie, Mutant Mayhem and Batman vs. TMNT, but he also has a lot of elements typically seen with Leo, especially 2012 and even Mutant Mayhem in how he’s the oldest brother and desperately wants to keep his family safe. It is worth noting however that although Michelangelo is the oldest sibling, he isn’t the leader.
And a few extra facts:
In this iteration the turtles are able to fight pretty with much any weapon. They do still primarily fight with their usual weapons, but they can also fight with others, including each other’s. Mikey prefers to fight weapons that can incapacitate rather than kill or do serious harm. Because of this, he typically prefers to use nunchucks, kusari-fundo and tonfa. He can use a katana or other weapons, but only in emergency situations. He doesn’t like the idea of taking a life. This is mainly due to the fact that he is the oldest of his brothers and has a natural protective instinct that does not allow him to harm others (Unless they already caused harm to his family)
Splinter originally wanted for Mikey to be the next leader of the Hamato Clan, mainly because of his ability to be responsible and always keeping an eye on his younger brothers, but Mikey declined the offer, mainly because he didn’t want that level of responsibility and also because he’s not as focused on ninjutsu as he would have to be in order to be the next leader, in his exact words ‘I don’t take ninjutsu as seriously as say… Leo’. This then lead to Splinter presuming Mikey thinks Leo should be leader instead and after thinking about for a few days realised his eldest son had a point. (More about this on Leo’s post)
Like with most iterations, Mike is a big fan of comics, tv and of course, pizza. Mikey is the best cook of the family and eventually took over the responsibility of making meals for the family.
He has a scar over his eye which was actually caused by Leo when they were younger (Mikey being about 12 at the time). About a month after Leo was allowed to begin using actual swords instead of fake wooden ones, Mikey suggested they do try them out, but Leo ended up accidentally slashing Mikey’s eye. Mikey was more concerned with calming Leo down and reassuring him that he was okay (Even though at the time it was the most severe injury he’d ever gotten) while also trying to make sure Leo didn’t get into too much trouble with Splinter and telling Raph to make sure Donnie didn’t see the blood. After the injury was treated, Mikey had tried to comfort his younger brother, asking if he thought it would create a cool scar, but this only caused Leo to start crying. Years later, Mikey thinks his scar makes him look more badass, and Leo cringes whenever he brings it up.
He’s a really convincing liar, unless he’s talking to his family, since his conscience makes him really uncomfortable if he tries. He usually only lies to enemies.
He has a calico cat named Klunk. Mikey found her as a kitten in the sewers, cold, wet and hungry and took her back home with him. Shes been living with them for over a year now. She’s his baby! He loves her almost more than his brothers.
While he’s not the best of the siblings when it comes to stealth, Mikey is the best at stealing things, especially without the person noticing. When they were children they used to play a game called ‘Mask Tag’, the way the game worked was all the brothers would play tag, and whoever was ‘it’ had to steal their masks, if he manages to catch the mask, that brother would be disqualified. They would play four rounds, with each turtle getting a chance to be ‘it’ and whoever caught all the masks the quickest won the game. Mikey almost always won.
Here’s a link to his character playlist
Ideally I would like for Mikey to be voiced by Steven Yeun, who is most known for his roles as Mark Grayson from Invincible and Keith from Voltron.

ok well youre getting it anyways (under the readmore)
AU TWS: SIBLING DEATH, MURDER, HORROR, BODY HORROR
Raph watches on in horror as Baron Draxum drops her little brother off the roof, world falling silent except for the sound of her own rapid heartbeat.
She leaps after him, willing herself to do something, *anything*, feeling her mystic power envelop her.
It's not enough. Her mystics crumble as Leo falls right through her palms, a sickening crunch sounding out as he hits the pavement.
His shell is shattered, crumpling in on itself like a wrecked car as it seeps blood. His leg is impaled with stray rebar, and his neck is in an angle so unnatural that Raph feels sick.
"Cmon Leo, wake up, I gotta get you home ok? You're gonna be okay. Just stay with me buddy, please.." She pleads, desperately doing CPR even as her little brothers blood smears all over her hands. It's warm and sticky, and Raph fights back a gag. She has to save him.
She *has* to.
She ignores Draxum's maniacal laughter atop the roof of the hotel.
Raph doesn't know how much time passes as she tries to revive her little brother, all she knows is that his blood and body are cold and she can't stop sobbing. She picks him up as gently as possible and holds him close to her chest, wailing as she instinctively curls into herself. She doesn't even notice her other siblings until she hears Donnie retch behind her.
"Raph...Is..." Mikey asks, voice soft and fragile. "Is that Leo..?"
Raph doesn't answer, can't answer. Only more violent sobs rip from her chest, nodding.
Donnie retches again, keening in despair.
"God, he's, he's not *fucking breathing*."
Raph wails like a banshee, curling over Leo's body until he's almost completely hidden from view.
"Who *did* this?" Mikey asks, anger creeping into his voice.
"It-" Raph chokes on her cries. "Draxum. Tossed him from the roof. It's *my fault*. God, this is *all my fault*." She weeps, gently rocking Leo's limp body.
Mikey's whole body tenses up as Donnie finally joins Raph in her grief. All he can feel is anger.
Mikey screams as he vaults himself up to the top of the roof, something inside of him snapping as the chain of his kusari-fundo wraps around the yokai's waist.
"And what do you think you're doing, child?" The yokai sneers, but Mikey doesn't answer.
The chains begin to glow a bright, searing orange. The metal superheats in an instant, glowing so brightly that it hurts to look at. Mikey blocks out the yokai's screams of pain as the metal ignites, burning Draxum in the fires of Michelangelo's rage. He watches as the yokai burns and burns, screaming his own voice raw.
---
When Leonardo wakes up, he is alone.
He doesn't know what happened, why he's alone, why he's not home.
All that Hamato Leonardo knows is that he's *seething*. Something happened to him, *hurt* him, and he wants *revenge*. He's cold; filled with a neverending malice that consumes him whole.
The Nexus Hotel turns frigid as an all encompassing, heavy darkness falls over the entire building.
By the end of the day, every employee and Big Mama are dead.
The anger does not abate. In fact, it only grows stronger. It grows so strong; so terrible that it burns. Leo's spirit flickers violently like an open flame as he carves a path of vengeance on anyone and everyone who's ever wronged him or his family.
His ghost is covered in blood, both his own and not; Impaled leg dragging behind him and neck still snapped at a disgusting angle, bones visible through his skin.
Leo's bloodstained claws twitch at his sides as he stares dead-eyed at the manhole cover leading to his home.
---
Hamato Leonardo waltzes into the Lair as if nothing had happened exactly four days after his funeral.
He's completely unchanged, minus the cold blue glow outlining his semi transparent body and his lengthened claws.
Leonardo is no longer a mutant, however. His untimely death has made him bitter and spiteful. No; Leonardo is not a mutant.
Leonardo is an onryō.
---------------
AND THATS PANCAKE LEO AU! hes died :)
basically: leo is now an onryō, an extremely dangerous and vengeful spirit. his family doesn't know because he's not angry at them, just anyone who's hurt them before or is planning to hurt them in the future. hes extremely powerful as well, feeding off of any and all negative emotions.
he never feeds off of his family however, instead opting to also consume any corrupted yokai or other sprits. he hides his true form from his family, because it's a deeply grotesque and painful sight as he basically just looks like how he did when he died, but worse. his neck angle is like rpgmaker crooked man btw. hes fucked up.
reminder: this is a predominantly horror themed au, and the themes will reflect that accordingly. after leo dies, the hamato family unlocks their ninp but it's much more volatile and their powers are much more violent.
mikey can create fire hot enough to melt nearly any metal in less than a minute, along with his canon powers.
donnie's tech is even more dangerous, and their ninpō reflects that. they can also summon and control electricity and use said electricity in conjunction with their technokinesis in very unorthodox and lethal ways.
raph can become godzilla. not joking. her mystic shields and clones are nearly completely solid, and she can also cause mini earthquakes. (think: earthbending)
leo's powers changed the most. he can still portal, but his reach is *greatly* increased to the point where he can quite literally portal to the afterlife. due to him being a powerful malevolent spirit, onibi (demon fire) constantly surround him which he uses to his advantage. they say leo's cold fire can burn away your very soul. he can also movie objects, mess with technology, cause cold spots etc.
april's ninpō is unique because just by being around the rest of the family she greatly amplifies their powers, including her own. she develops very powerful telekinesis, as well as being able to invade peoples minds.
when around mikey, he can create pocket dimensions to store things (or people) in, as well as being able to feel others emotions.
when around donnie, their summoned tech becomes real and physical as well as guaranteed to work perfectly, no matter how impossible they may be designwise. they can also summon lightning storms to raise the amount of latent electricity in the air.
when around raph, she can create shields as solid as the strongest metal, as well as being able to grow in size and cause large fissures in the ground.
when around leo, he can weaponize his own malice and anger and more effectively feed off of enemies. he also can actively summon more demon fire, and can also quite literally freeze people solid.
leo tells donnie that hes back first btw. he taps them on the shoulder and whispers get haunted idiot and then promptly panics when they start crying like, really loudly
hey does anyone wanna hear about my pancake leo au.

Making a Rottmnt Au and would like to get some thoughts out before writing the fanfic.
So we all know that turtles in that universe are 50% turtles and like 50% Lou Jitsu combined by Baron Draxum to make super soldiers, hence the two dads. However, I would like to think that Daddy Draxum put some of his own DNA in order for the turtles to better utilize mystic weapons. I’m thinking Yokai genes work were offspring are not hybrids of from two different yokai but rather the kids take the form of one or the other of the parents OR even take after their parent’s ancestors. Genes are carried passively through generations so it’s kinda of a slot machine function for what you get. And Drax has a rich background of Yoaki in him.
Raphael “Red Reign” Hamato = 50% alligator snapping turtle, 25% Lou Jitsu, 25% Honengyo
Honengyo are up to 2 to 3 meters tall, more excuse to make Raph taller.
Honengyo live in Isolation, another reseaon Raph gets... weird when he is alone is cause he reverts back to his more natural instincts
They also gets mirror eyes which I think is just cool in a fight scene
Shaper teeth shaped teeth sharper teeth
Long wesaled bodies... ignore that.
This yokai is also the bases of Godzilla so that Raph large Red Form being insanely huge would just be in not only copying his movie star dad but his movie star yokai ancestor as well.
Raphzilla... I can’t not use that name
Leonardo “Baby Blue” Hamato = 50% red eared slider, 25% Lou Jistu, 25% Kappa
More webbed feet due to slider genes and kappa genes
I Headcannon him as the medic of the group as kappa are known to make medicines and setting bones
Mischievous, enjoys wrestling... brotherly things
Likes shogi??? He’s more of a Sorry or Candyland kind of guy
Proud, stubborn, fiercely honorable which are all usual traits in any reincarnation of Leo maybe hidden deep but totally there
Kappas apparently can never break a promise due to their honor idk if magic binding or not and I think I can work some good angst with this
Eats cucumbers and human innards.... skip that
Senior Huseo calls Leo pepino which means cucumber, adorable.
THEY HAVE THREE WHAT NOW
Swear loyalty and friendship when bested... *sniff snifff* I smell a Usagi cameo~
Donatello “Purple Rain” Hamato = 50% spiked soft shell, 25% Lou Jitsu, 25% Garappa
Garappa are a more longer limb and longer faced Kappa... and even more reason for them to be the Disaster Twins
They are known to be more elusive and shyer than their kappa counterparts, which can be true.
Just as mischievous through
Enjoys surprising people on mountains paths which is find hilarious
Also good at wresting... interesting Donnie has a PhD in kicking your ass
Also dedicate to keeping their word... he tries people
Can farm, fish, and make poultices which Donnie has shown to be far more adaptable to the outdoors life than any of his brothers.
Ga-rappa- and Donnie being the only one of his brothers to rap so fine! Coincidence! I think not!
Michelangelo “Orange Mandarin” Hamato = 50% box turtle, 25% Lou Jitsu, 25% Shibaten
This one was the hardest ya’ll
So like Shibaten are mini Tengu which is awesome because kawa tengu are known for fire magic and their pranks on people
Tengu fire is called Tengubi and has a mind of its own really, Shibaten aren’t said to use it but I think there is something there with Mikeys mystic weapon
They look more like red kappas strangely enough and stay near riverbanks
Which works for me as I want to keep these yokai somewhat aquatic based cause... turtles
Mickey has his fire “razzma dazz” which we all know and love and seems the more proficient with his mystic weapon honestly
They are known for looking small and weak but can and will flip you like a pancake
They transform into Enko which is intestinal a River Monkey and just another version of Kappa but I think River Monkey sounds cooler
I was think maybe a Gangi Kozo which is a yokai that is an between a kappa/enko and a takiwaro but just couldn’t find any info about takiwaro beyond being mountain spirits so i dropped it
So yeah writing this out actually helped a lot. If anyone got any yokai ideas to add I would love to hear them.
The middle names are what Splinter originally named them until he found out that he is a father and these are his children and he can’t keep calling them this

We Met Within This Screen (final chapter, pt. 2, the end.)
part one here
A/N: Thank you guys for all of your wonderful comments and the love sent my way for this fanfic. I've had a great time writing it despite its rocky moments. I really hope this ending does it justice; I've never gotten to write a proper conclusion to anything like this before. It's the first time I've ever completed a multi-chapter work such as this, so I'm happy. 🍾🥂 Here's to finishing what you start, and enjoy. :)
Just shy of a half-hour later, he was finished telling the story. She had sat the both of them down on the couch, one on each end, and he explained in great detail everything leading up to current-day. Tales of the ooze, Mutagen, as he'd told her; the rat named Splinter, a man formerly known as Hamato Yoshi, who had fathered and trained them; and lastly, their mission. Be of service, protect the city; have a good heart. And Donnie most certainly had a good heart. He was not the outlandish figure she'd first saw and recognized him as. He was the guy she had come to know as Bo, Donatello, who was the same person she'd talked to this whole time. At some points of the retelling, he got excited to share some of their adventures. This came after their humble beginnings of struggling in the sewers. Donnie was happy to share after so long of dodging saying anything about his life.
She nodded along to this talking. "...and that's how we're here," he said finally, putting his hands on his legs. "Since we're here, any questions?"
She replied with a no, looking over at the TV that had remained on the entire time. Donnie stayed seated as she got up and got the remote, also glancing at the clock on the wall, which read 10:45 PM. She switched the TV off. Looks like it's time to go, he thought. He rose from the couch and fixed the pillow he'd displaced.
"Donnie, this has been...strange," and for a split second, his face fell, "but not bad! Though, it is getting late."
"Oh, no—yeah, no, I understand," he sputtered bashfully, activating the staff which collapsed back into its smaller form. He tucked it away somewhere on him.
For a moment, he simply stood there as if wanting to say something, but the words never found him. "So it's goodbye?" he asked quietly. The way he said it made it seem like he thought it was forever. But it was on until they figured out how to pick up where they left off after that night. Undoubtedly, things would be different going forward. He didn't know if that would be good or bad.
"Only until next time," she told him, a small smile present. He visibly relaxed. "You're still my friend, Donatello."
He smiled. "I knew that. Totally."
Showing himself out, he stepped onto the balcony, looking back one last time before he bounded away. He held up his hand and gave a small wave.
But she hadn't said bye yet, so he stuck around for a moment longer, though it was met with an awkward silence. He was beginning to go over the railing when she ran over to the door, stopping him. "Wait," she said, and he crawled back over the railing with a confused but curious expression. "I actually do have a question. Just one, before you go."
"Sure," he said, inviting her to go on. She had to look up to see his face being so close.
Tenderly, she asked, "Why'd you not tell me, after all that time? Would you have ever chosen to do this if it hadn't been for an accident?"
Donnie couldn't give her an answer on that.
He sighed, slightly shaking his head. "I couldn't, [y/n]. We've been through this."
"I only wanted you to trust me, Donnie," she responded. And that was, really, how she'd felt. Throughout their entire friendship, it had felt one-sided in that regard. Trusting but not trusted, but she hadn't any idea of what was truly going on, at the time.
Donnie pondered her question: If there hadn't been some kind of divine intervention, would he have ever had the chance to have something more with her than words on a screen?
He swallowed as she took a small step closer.
"I just wanted you to care about me." His volume was barely above a whisper. He clenched his jaw briefly, as if he was concerned over his own words. His golden-brown eyes wandered from your eyes on downward.
"I did—I do care about you, what makes you say that?" she questioned, puzzled.
He vaguely gestured at his body, "Wouldn't this be a little hard grasp over text? Isn't it hard to accept even now?"
Though she didn't answer, he had a feeling that he was correct about one of those things—she did have to wrap her head around everything. Tentatively, both watched as her fingers brushed against his own. His hand moved along with hers, seeing and feeling the delicateness. Until they laced together as well as they could, her heart steady while his was beginning to race. His hand even trembled ever so slightly. He would have wanted to stay like that forever, had it not been for the fact that he was uncertain where they now stood. Where he stood in your eyes. What did this mean?
Putting her other hand on his shoulder, she tried to conjure a smile. But it flickered out as she murmured, leaning into him, "Does this answer your question?" She had to stand on the tips of her toes, while his hand tightened in hers involuntarily, almost too shocked to bend down for what was coming. The one thing he hadn't accounted for in their meeting, not once—and it was happening.
He seemed like he was going to stammer something, but her lips closed the gap and planted softly on his.
There is no way.
There is no way this is happening—but I'm seeing it with my own eyes!
Donnie lost all control the moment her lips pressed against his. His hand squeezed hers, shaking as his heart pounded in his chest. I'm shaking. Why am I shaking?
His eyes which had been wide were now fluttering closed. For the better half of the kiss, every other thought beside the ones of her was ejected. He couldn't have pulled away, even if he'd wanted. He was hers completely. That was irrevocable.
It was only until she decided it was time to step back did they part, him looking at her entrancing face once more, and her swallowing heavily. That kiss had been something she'd dreamed of before. Never Knowing it would be held on the smooth, moist lips of a humanoid turtle, rather than those or a human man. In fact, she had to convince herself that she wasn't dreaming. Her hand slid down his shoulder and onto his chestplate. It was rough, almost possessing a grain under her fingertips. Her thumb rubbed the back of his hand. He thought he felt a tingle from the trail her fingers left.
Donnie was on Cloud Nine for a solid minute before coming back to his senses. "That...I…" he struggled to find the words. For a brain that worked so fast, he felt utterly slow, then.
She cracked a smile, face contorted into one of hope and a hint of embarrassment. "Is it too late to say that I've waited to do that for a while now?" she laughed.
"N-no," he said, still trying to organize his thoughts. "No, it isn't."
"Okay, good," she replied with a relieved exhale.
Her hand went from his chest to his arm, feeling the taut muscle as it traveled down. His hand enveloped hers while the other lifted, going to touch her cheek. "Does this mean…?" he trailed off.
"It means I really, really like you, Donnie. I have since we played that game."
He gently brushed her cheek with his thumb, "I really like you, too," he mimicked, voice soft.
Maybe even that was an understatement.
"I think I…"
A noise nearby alerted him, and on instinct, he set her behind himself on defense. Don't be an attack now, of all times, he thought, listening closely. He told her to be quiet and to not say anything, using his forearm to gently push her back into the apartment. He pulled out his staff.
"Sup dude and dudette!" an all too familiar voice beamed, the orange-banded turtle appearing hanging upside down from the balcony above. [Y/N] shrieked, and Donnie nearly bashed his brother in the head, sucking in a sharp breath as he accidentally backpedaled into her. Mikey waved and flashed a grin. "Don't worry, we didn't see anything...except for you two kissing, that was really unexpected!" He flipped down onto the balcony, and Donnie grumbled something, going in for a zap to his brother's plastron. Mikey dodged it, this time. Donnie tried again; unsuccessful. "Oop—saw that one coming," Mikey laughed, jovial.
Donnie groaned, half-embarrassed and half-annoyed, "Mikey, what are you doing here?"
Waltzing into her apartment, Mikey crossed his arms with a wink sent the human's way. "Michelangelo, wingman to the big special D right here," he introduced himself brightly, "but you can call me Mikey."
Donnie slapped his hand to his flushed face, hoping that he was the only one who noticed Mikey's less-than-classy wording.
"So you're all named after Renaissance painters?" asked [y/n], lifting a brow.
Exhaling, Donnie stepped between them, "[Y/N], this is Mikey, my brother. The one that—"
"Got you together!"
"—that got us into this predicament," he'd almost said, but he realized as Mikey said that, he owed their meeting all to him. It had all started with that talk they had had late that day, after patrol, and ended on her balcony, Donnie getting to experience a kiss for the first time. With someone he'd never imagined he would have ever been able to touch, let alone share something like that with. Yes, as much of a hassle everything up until that point had been, it was all thanks to Mikey.
Donnie grinned, turning to his brother and draping his arm over the back of his shoulders. "Yeah, you did," he agreed. Mikey smiled as he looked down at him with fondness. He wrapped an arm around Donnie's shell in return.
"You know it, brah. Oh, and I take cash or pi—"
"Don't push it, younger bro." Donnie rolled his eyes.
Waiiiiit a minute.
Mumbling for [y/n] to hold that thought, Donnie, suspicious, crept over toward the balcony. "We"?
Mikey tried to make chatter with her while he did so, mentioning how he liked what she'd done with the place.
He checked if the coast was clear first before leaning onto the railing on his shell, squinting his eyes. And he was not surprised at all to see Raph and Leo looking down at him from over the edge of the roof. Leo had his recognizable expression of: "You'd better wrap it up." Donnie drooped his shoulders and ducked back inside. Couldn't last forever, he thought. Despite whatever was waiting for him on the roof or at home, he could still smile on the day he'd had. He would be thinking about that kiss for weeks.
"I guess it's bye for real this time," he told [y/n], sad to go what felt like so soon, but really was content. The night could not have gone better. "I have to, you know, go get flamed by my oldest brother. Probably."
"We'll be in touch, Donnie," she replied. "Um...text me when you get home? Just so I know you got there alright."
Smiling, Donnie nodded.
Mikey budded in, "Hey, don't forget about me here."
Chuckling, Donnie headed for the door, taking Mikey but the upper arm along with him. They stopped one last time to waved to her before making their exit.
Leo and Raph met the pair at the top. Raph was the first to speak, asking skeptically, "And yer sure this girl is alright?"
"Positive," Donnie answered with confidence.
After a moment of trying to come up with some kind of remark, Raph let out a huff. "You got the nerve, I'll tell you that." He held out his fist ready for a bump, and when Donnie didn't immediately reciprocate, grumbled "Well? Don't leave me hangin', Don." Realizing what he wanted, Donnie went right in for the fist bump.
Pulling away, Donnie asked, "So you're not mad?" He gave some space between himself and the incoming Leo.
Raph scoffed lightly and shrugged. "I may not trust her, but I trust you," he responded, gruff as usual. "Just don't expect me to be all friendly and whatnot—I ain't doin' it."
"You don't have to do anything, Raph."
And then Donnie was face-to-face with Leo, who's intensely blue eyes were trained on him for a few seconds too long. Donnie wondered what he was thinking until he sighed, and then spoke.
"I'm sorry."
Behind Leo, Mikey was in awe.
"That's a new one," Raph chuffed. He left the circle to watch from the edge of the building. Mikey stuck around, but only far enough to be in ear shot. If something coming from Leo started off with a sincere "I'm sorry", he wouldn't miss it.
"Yes, you heard. I'm sorry," Leo admitted, bringing his eyes up from the ground. "I shouldn't have pressured you, Donnie. I know that you can handle yourself. I was just trying to protect you and our family," he explained, pausing to glance over at the other two brothers, "but…yeah. I'm sorry for pushing you, Don. I was kind of a jerk back there."
Deciding he didn't have any words good enough to say what he wanted to, Donnie simply pulled Leo in for half-hug, rocking him with him. Leo wore his lopsided smile as he gave Donnie's shell a slap.
"That...was…"
They stepped away from each other, staring at Mikey quizzically.
"...beautiful, bros," he finished in a whisper.
They stayed for a minute just watching the city go by, the clock ticking by later into the night. Donnie finally thought to ask Leo how Splinter was, because he definitely knew what was going down. He was a smart old man—and beside, Donnie had made no effort to pretend that wasn't what he was doing when he'd initially left. If Splinter knew, Splinter knew. He was still mildly afraid of Leo's response.
"You want the truth?" Leo questioned, his expression briefly changing to one of a cringe.
"I mean, I'd like to know what I'm in for," Donnie replied in an obvious manner.
"He was angry, at first. Didn't know you left until he was done with his talk with Mikey. Also surprised that you actually went through with it. But, after that...he seemed like he understood, in a way, I guess. I didn't ask questions. You'll have to confront him about it yourself, because he just sent me and Raph out to get you."
Donnie kept his eyes on the sidewalk below them, and the occasional person walking it. "And Mikey?" he asked, quizzical.
"He insisted," Leo groaned.
"You know I can't pass up an opportunity to see D get his first kiss!"
"Oh, shut up, you had no idea that was gonna happen. You just wanted to go because me 'n Leo were goin'," Raph argued, flicking his head. "Weren't you supposed to stay in by Splinter's orders?"
Mikey crossed his arms and turned away, "I don't have to take this abuse." He was, indeed, meant to stay behind. But the boy couldn't help himself.
Once the banter died down, they were left contemplating whether they wanted to stay out a little longer, or if it was time to turn in. It had already been a long night, but in honesty, Donnie wasn't ready to go quite yet. He still felt as though he had so much to say to [y/n], but he supposed that time had already passed. At least until next time, if or when that was. Raph took a break from his lookout and sat next to Donnie with a grunt. He wasn't good with mush or sensitive things, but he felt compelled to ask "What're you gonna do now?"
Donnie hummed in question.
"Well, she knows. And by the looks of things—erm—the look of one particular thing, you two are still goin' steady."
Ugh, they saw it. Donnie moaned, a cold flush coming over his face. I can't have anything private in this family.
Raph pushed him on his shoulder. "Ya shouldn't mack on someone by the doorway if ya don't wanna be seen," he jested.
"I don't know what's next, Raph," Donnie confessed. "We didn't exactly...make anything official after that."
Once they were back on the move towards home, they all dropped into the nearest manhole, but Donnie remained where he was, saying he would catch up to them. He was the fastest of the four, after all.
"I hope you're still awake," he mumbled to himself as he reached for his phone. They were close to home, anyway. And it was quiet. He typed:
"I'm almost home, [y/n]. All safe."
A couple of minutes later, she responded.
"Okay, that's good
Your brother is quite the character, by the way"
"He is who he is, lol"
"He seems nice though."
Walking down along the sewers, he took his time. What was a little longer after the night he'd had?
"Donnie, what were you going to say when Michelangelo interrupted us?"
He stopped in his tracks and thought, having nearly forgotten that he was going to actually say it. He didn't just like her—for the first time, he was sure he loved her.
"That I think I love you, [y/n]."
He regretted not saying it when he was with her, but he just couldn't wait.
There was a worrisome pause on her end in which he imagined she was staring at her screen thinking about how strong that came off, that it was uncalled for, that he was going too fast—
"I said I liked you
But that was not quite the truth
I love you, Donnie."
Golden-brown eyes sparkling, he let out a laugh, unable to contain his happiness, and the rest of the brothers smiled to themselves hearing the whoop of joy and excitement echo in the tunnel.
His adventure in love and friendship had started within a screen, but he was bound to it no longer. This was the opening of a new chapter in his life.

Comfort was always a top priority in the Hamato household. Prized above all else, Splinter always made sure his sons had everything possible to comfort them through the darkness of their isolated lives. Even when there was nothing else to turn to, no food or warmth, nightmares running rampant, there was always comfort, both in each other and in items silky and dear. Soft pajamas with dinosaurs and trains and butterflies, and heavy comforters where Donatello could indulge his burrowing instinct, and cushioned beds where the family could curl up together and be safe.
Comfort, above all other things, was most important.
Raphael, being the oldest, always went to bed later than his brothers; granted, it was only ten minutes later, but it still made him feel special. A special time just for him and his daddy before the warmth of his dreams embraced him and fed him stories enhanced and beautiful. Who didn't like beautiful? Now was that time. Splinter carried Raphael to his big boy bed in the room he shared with all of his family; Leonardo had a habit of wandering off in the night, Donatello couldn’t sleep without his twin, Raphael often had nightmares, and it wouldn’t be fair to let poor Michelangelo sleep alone! And it made Splinter sleep deeper knowing his sons were all together, around him, where he could protect them always.
“Goodnight, my Raphael.” Splinter laid the biggest son down in the pile of stuffed animals, a small collection Raphael had started to assemble. The snapper had even requested higher sides on his bed so his stuffed animals wouldn’t fall off in the night and be lonely; Splinter had, of course, obliged. Splinter kissed his son, whiskers tickling the turtles head as Raphael giggled and kissed his father back. “Sweet dreams.”
But Raphael couldn’t go to sleep right then! His teddies were still a mess from his nap time and he had to fix them all neat and pretty before he could even think about sleeping! They deserved it! So while Splinter settled into his nest, yawning and nestling into himself for preserved warmth, Raphael began to sort his collection. Pippsy was the biggest and always went by his feet, and Tip and Pip were sisters so they had to stay together. Bunny stayed by his pillow, Taigo and the amigos along the left side, and his boo-boo’s (he couldn’t say beanie-boos, so boo boo was the next best thing) went on the other side, and that just left him and Cheech to cuddle! But… where was Cheech?
At first, Raphael hadn’t noticed his absence, but now the empty space in the center of the bed seemed remarkably empty and lonely. Cheech? Raphael began to paw at the sheets and the blanket, not caring about disturbing his other teddies as he searched for his cuddle buddy. Under the pillow? No. Under the dino blanket? No… the pokemon blanket? He couldn’t find Cheech anywhere! Not on the floor, not in bed!
“Cheee!” Raphael’s cry came a low whine riddled with soft, distraught panic. “Chee Chee…”
“Mmm?” Splinter opened one tired eye. “Red, what is the matter?”
“Can’ find...C...Chee…” Raphael babbled almost incoherently, rubbing at his eyes and trying to dismiss the sleep from them. “Nee Chee…”
Splinter yawned and slowly blinked. “Why don’t you sleep with Pipsy tonight and… and I’ll find Cheech in the morning…?”
Splinter tried to settle back down, but was immediately met with a beanie boo to the face.
“NO! NEED CHEE!”
“Raphael!” The full name carried a sharp authority to it, Splinter’s ears laying back as his teeth snapped an instinctual threat he immediately regretted. His voice became softer quickly. “Red, I am tired. Please. Just go to sleep with Pipsy and I promise I will find Cheech tomorrow.”
Raphael whined, almost yowled, as his cheeks puffed out and his face flushed dark. The soft yowl turned into desperate whines, which turned into loud, piercing crying. Splinter was awake now, and so was Donatello, who immediately began to fuss and sob. Then Leonardo followed suit and Michelangelo woke up, though he didn't cry. He only looked around, concerned and distraught over the outbursts occurring all around him.
There was only one way to stifle the outburst and Splinter knew it. Frustration fueling him, the rat forced himself out of bed and snagged Raphael out of the crib by his arm, leaving the room and the twins to cry out their sorrows. Raphael’s screaming became more intense as his sudden grab, but fell softer once he was put down on the rug.
“Stay. There!” And Splinter stalked off to search for the lost teddy and hopefully salvage what was left of his sleeping time.
Raphael stopped screaming, but the sobs and tears didn't leave him because he was alone and scared and now he was cold too and his arm hurt. He started to rub his shoulder where Splinter had grabbed him, intermittently wiping his eyes as he hiccuped and coughed. He looked around for his brothers, but they were still crying in their cribs. He wished he could comfort them, and them him… but Splinter said to stay…
After five long minutes Raphael found himself unable to stay any longer. Wobbling on unsteady and fat legs, Raphael pushed himself up from the rug and waddled back over to his bedroom. Moving as fast as a toddler turtle could move, Raphael pulled himself onto the side of Donatello and Leonardo’s crib. Leonardo had the softshell cradled in his arms, gently trying to sooth the dramatic wailing of his twin.
“Shh…” Raphael reached a hand down and put it on Donatello’s big head, making the softshell look up. “Nuh cry, Donna. Nuh cry…”
Donatello wiped his eyes, lip still quivering as he stared up at his big brother. Raphael smiled and kept petting his brother, reaching down as far as he could so he and Donatlelo could meet.
“Waphie?”
Raphael gave a curious squeak and lifted his head, looking back down at the floor and at Michelangelo who was now out of his crib; the youngest sibling was always an escape artist. With a guilty look on his face, the littlest brother held the worn and graying Cheech out to his brother.
“Chee!” Raphael jumped down and grabbed Cheech, hugging the precious toy tightly to his chest and burying his face in the soft fur so he could breathe in its scent.
“Ah sorry…” Michelangelo said, dragging his feet on the stone floor. “It smell like you… I like it a lot, Waphie…”
Raphael lifted his head from the toy, and he looked at Michelangelo, then back down at his precious Cheech. A moment of thought was all it took for Raphael to shove the toy back into the confused Michelangelo’s arms, scooping his brother up and bearing Michelangelo over to Raphael’s big boy bed, planting the box turtle inside. Michelangelo blinked, but didn't move, and watched with curiosity as Raphael returned to the twins’ crib. One at a time, he grabbed Donatello and Leonardo from their crib, carrying both of them over to the bed where Michelangelo cheered in delight as they were placed on either side of him. Raphael climbed in last, nuzzling in and settling down with all of his brothers and teddies surrounding him.
***
Splinter came wandering back after a long search proved fruitless, with no sign of Cheech in sight. A moment's panic passed through him when he discovered Raphael’s absence, but panic turned to pure, adorable bliss as he discovered all four of his son curled up in the safety of their biggest brothers presence, teddies and turtles and all. Raphael wasn’t quite asleep yet, though his eyes were heavy and tried to force it upon him. He smiled a sleepy smile when he saw his dad, making slow grabby hands.
“Ah found Chee, daddy…” Raphael said with his heavy eyes, followed by a yawn.
“So you did…” Splinter’s cheeks hurt from the smile, but it was a good hurt. An impulse led him to scoop his sons and their teddies up in his arms and to bear them to his nest, a mess of cushions and blankets assembled for maximum warmth.
It was there that he curled up around his sons, settling down with them all safe against the soft warmth of his belly. A hairless hand went to gently rub Raphael’s arm as the smile faded to a soft frown.
“I’m sorry I hurt your arm, Raphael… is it better now?”
“Is otay…” Raphael closed his eyes and nosed his way into a warm spot just under Splinter’s arm. “Can we sleep now, daddy?”
“Of course, Raphael…” Splinter curled up just a little tighter, just to keep his sons close.
Raphael smiled at the gentle constriction and his face under two big, fat hands. Splinter cuddles were always better than Cheech Cuddles!

How Much is that Turtle in the Window ch 21
Leo opened one eye to look at him and then the other before carefully stretching. "Sorry, could you repeat that, Mikey?"
Mikey huffed in frustration. Tapping with that heavy paw was tiresome and that wasn't even taking into account the effort of putting the letters together in the first place.
"I'm sorry but by the time I realised you were talking to me, you were already half done," Leo apologised guiltily. "Maybe next time you should get my attention first and then say it."
{But u mediate,} Mikey explained slowly, tapping laboriously away with his left paw. He rolled his sore right shoulder, made worse by putting his weight on it when leaning forward to tap – still, it was less painful that way than tapping with his right. It was no wonder though, that Donnie wouldn't let him do too much at once.
"Mediate?" Leo questioned in confusion, concentrating on trying to translate the dits and dahs. "Mediate what?"
'No!' Mikey blinked in annoyance. Why did Donnie have to leave him alone with Leo? Donnie was the only one that understood him well. Leo tried but he was even slower at translating than Mikey was at tapping. He shifted from his approximation of seiza to cross-legged, lifting his paws onto his knees and closing his eyes and tried breathing as deeply and slowly as possible, wincing slightly at the tight metal clamped around his throat making the deep breathing difficult. Then he looked expectantly up at Leo.
"Oh, meditating?"
'Yes,' Mikey blinked in relief. Then, {U get mad wen dis... trbed.}
For a minute, Leo struggled with translating and then his face cleared in understanding before falling as he realised Mikey was scared to get his attention first.
"It doesn't matter if I'm meditating or not, little brother, if I'm the only one here and you need me, you don't hesitate to get my attention. I promise I won't be mad. Okay?"
{'k,} Mikey reluctantly agreed, torn between trusting Leo's word and his own messed up survival instincts born of the last almost year.
"So what did you want?"
{Go out,} Mikey tapped eagerly, faster than earlier.
"Slow down, Mikey," Leo chuckled, "I'm not Donnie, give me time to translate."
Mikey pulled a face and repeated yet again, this time far more slowly.
Leo's face fell. "You want to go outside," he said flatly.
'Yes!' Mikey blinked desperately, glad that Leo finally understood. {Need air! Pls!}
"I'm sorry, Mikey, but it's not safe out there."
{D an' R out.}
Leo sighed. "Yes, they are and I can't say I like it."
Mikey pouted, looking back and forth between Leo and the door anxiously.
"Unfortunately, they had to go out there. Donnie needs a chance to scout the ship too. He needs access to the computers and records if he can, so we know how long until we reach New York. Also, to find out if there are areas we need to avoid when out on the ship."
{Need air an' c sky,} Mikey repeated, his tapping becoming faster and sloppier in his desperation. {Won't go 'way. Stay close. Pls, L!}
"Mikey, you need to slow it down, you know I can't keep up," Leo burst out over the top of him, exasperated and frustrated by his inability to understand.
Slamming a paw down in frustration, Mikey bared his teeth, growling with his breath and Leo's eyes widened in shock.
"I understand how you feel, Mikey..." he began.
No, he didn't! He had no clue and he wasn't listening!
"... but it's just too dangerous for you to go out there when you can't defend yourself or even hide or run. You need to understand that I'm just trying to keep you safe."
It was far too late for that! Maybe he should have tried harder earlier and then he'd actually be safe now! Mikey snorted disdainfully and turned away,

Brothers divided: an Au idea for tmnt
This is an Au that a friend of mine helped flesh out a bit. It's not set in any specific version, but it heavily borrows story lines and characters from the 2003 and 2012 series.
Basically, it has the similar backstory from 2012, where the Hamato clan wiped outvthe foot clan, and adopted Oroku Saki, raising him along side Yoshi as brothers. They meet Tang Shen, and the three become friends and so begins their romantic rivalry between Saki and Yoshi for her. But, before she could make her choice between the two, she becomes a victim to another rival ninja clan. Both Yoshi and Saki then devote themselves to avenge her, and they both work together to help restore Saki's foot clan, to work with the Hamato clan and wipe out the rivals who took their tang shen.
Once they complete their revenge, Yoshi felt empty inside. He decided to go off on his own, and travel, to both mend his heart, and rediscover who he is, outside the clan and without tang shen. Saki, satisfied with his revenge, but having his sights now on growing his clan, has no hatred towards Yoshi, and let him go off on his journey, feeling like he won the romantic rivalry for tang shen, since in his mind, he proved the most loyal to her and relishing in the death of her killers.
Yoshi goes off on his journey of self reflection, winds up in New york, where he gets into a freak accident after purchasing some pet turtles, and walking down a rat-infested allyway that was a short cut to the hotel he was staying in. He gets exposed to mutagen from TCRI and he mutates into a rat mutant, and his tiny turtles mutated into turtle tots.
For the first 3 years, he raised them on his own, hiding in the sewers, but he eventually learns that Oroku Saki has moved to New York to spread out his clans influence, and to search for his missing brother.
They become reunited, and Hamato stays with Saki and the foot clan, since it is safer to raise his new sons.
As the years pass, the brothers personallies grow, and their skills and talents become noticed by different people from the clan. Oroku Saki notices Raphael's power, the head of his lab, Baxter Stockman, notices the intelligence in Donatello, and Hun notices the agility and natural charisma in Michelangelo. Leonardo had great skill and leadership as well, however, lacked the killing instinct that Oroku Saki admired in Raphael.
Although the brothers still spent time with each other as siblings, they trained under different mentors. Once they became adults, they each took over a branch of the Foot clan, and eventually, Raphael completely overthrew Oroku Saki, once he saw that his sensei was going mad with power. He might have been under the Shredders influence, but his father and sense of honor was still implied by Hamato Yoshi, so his morality was still a lighter grey than Saki wished.
Raphael became the new shredder, leader of the Foot Clan.
Donatello was Baxter Stockman's assistant and right hand man, but he soon took over the technology branch of the foot clan, once Raphael took over and allowed Baxter to start his own tech company if he so wished.
Michelangelo was second in command under Hun in the Purple Dragons, however he had to bring him down, since his loyalty was to Oroku Saki. Once Raph took over, Mikey took Hun in, then took over as the head boss of the Purple Dragons.
Leonardo remained with his father the longest, and was the moral compass for Raphael. He was the one to convince him to overthrow Saki, and helped him take over. However, he never felt like the foot clan was his home, or his "clan" and he soon followed his Fathers footsteps and traveled back to Japan to learn about his roots in the remains of the Hamato Clan. He soon decides to revive it, and take in students of his own, often times orphans who have no where else to go.
Hamato Yoshi retires back in Japan, overseeing Leonardo, but very rarely interfering in his lessons. He does find peace knowing that his family's lessons and name will continue on, and although tang shens death still hangs heavily in his heart, he feels that it is due to how much he loved and still loves her. And no amount of violence or revenge will ever lift that from him.

Callie Reviews: TMNT 2012 Season One (Part One)
Ever since 1984, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles franchise has gone form a cult-status indie comic to a massive mass market. There have been various comics, movies, video games, merchandise, and of course cartoons. And it’s easy to see why. TMNT’s concept, a group of mutated teen turtles fighting evil in New York, is both incredibly bizarre and incredibly appealing to a mass audience. You have action, science fiction, martial arts, and of course plenty of mutant ideas to make toys out of. The fact that this Fall will be releasing the fourth animated TMNT series and that a new movie series is in production shows that even over 30 years later, this is a franchise that is far from losing it’s power.
As a kid, I of course knew that Turtles as a thing and I even watch parts of 2k3. But I was never really a fan until the day I stumbled upon the 2012 show. I fell in love with it and, since it started when I was just starting this blog, it was a huge focus for me for several years. I have since moved on and while I’m going to check out the 2018 show, I don’t think I’m going to be as crazy as I was with this show (but never say never). Back in 2012, I was someone who... lets say ignored the flaws and defended the show far too passive aggressively to the point that looking at my older stuff makes me want to blow up by blog.
Nowadays, while some of my opinions hold true (like the ‘Donnie is a stalker’ accusations are still bullshit), I am more willing to admit the shows problems, especially now that I can take the show in fully. I also like to believe that I’ve become a better reviewer since I was 19 years old, plus it had been far too long since I went back over the show form the very beginning. So does the show still hold up? Will 25 year old Callie feel differently than 19 year old Callie did? Well we’re about to find out. This is the TMNT 2012 Season One Review!
The Premiere (Episodes 1-2)
Our story begins with a training sequence that introduces us to the titular Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo. Along with some minor character establishment, like Mikey being the funny one and Raph the violent one, the biggest thing here is one of the shows strengths: the choreography. It’s best exhibited in Leo and Raph’s duel. The movements are very fluid and well-paced. It’s fast, but not too fast, it’s enough to move things along but still let you take in all the impacts. It’s very well done. Raph ends up winning and we are introduce to the boys mentor and father, Master Splinter. Aka, the best written character int he show, but we’ll get to that later.
After the opening theme, we cut to the boys 15th Mutation Day where we get our backstory. Borrowing from the 80′s show origin, Splinter was once a young man named Hamato Yoshi. He had just bought four pet turtles when he stumbled across a shady dealing. Being a ninja master, he was able to fight back, but he ended up getting splattered with a strange green substance. This turned him into a rat, as one brushed his ankle while the baby Turtles become anthropomorphic. Yoshi, taking on the name Splinter, fled to the sewers and raised the four turtles as his own as well as taught them ninjutsu. It’s a simple, but still solid telling of the origin that pays tribute to previous origins, leaves some mystery about the substance and who was dealing it, and is told with use of comic-style panels reminiscent of the original comics.
The Turtles, having lived in the sewers since their mutation, are hoping to convince Splinter to let them finally go to the surface. After some begging, Splinter reluctantly agrees. We then cut to Leo watching a Star Trek: The Animated Series parody where we learn of his desire to become a great hero and leader. This is interesting for several reasons. One, it establishes that Leo isn’t the leader of the group yet, a departure form normal as he’s normally put into that role automatically. And second, ti does a great job at character establishment. In previous versions, Leo is often seen as the boring, overly leader type. Not a bad character mind you, but he lacks the quirkiness that the tough Raph, genius Donnie, and wild child Mikey present. Here? Leo is shown to be an idealistic, naive, but good-intention kid who aspires to be a great hero like he sees on TV as well as give shim some dorky characteristics, like quoting cheesy one-liners to sound more heroic. It helps make him more relateable, funny, and sets up a character arc for when he does inevitably become the leader. Very well done.
The boys finally go to the surface, and are in awe of what they see. They even discover their trademark favorite food, pizza. Given that they only ever ate worms and algae until this point, it makes their love of it all the more understandable. But not all goes well as they soon witness a group of business men kidnapping a red-haired teenager and her father. They attempt to help, but end up only beating each other up and the bad guys get away with their captives. Mikey ends up beating up one and discovers... a brain with tentacles... yipe... he tries to tell the other three, but they don’t believe him. A common trend in the show.
Upon returning home, the boys try to blame each other for the failure before Splinter accepts it for not giving them proper training as a team. While he considers keeping them down below for another year, Donnie convinces him to let them go help the girl due to seeing how terrified she was and how they failed to help her... and because of the crush he developed in a record five seconds. Splinter agrees, but first assigns Leo as the official leader, much to the ire of Raph. They’re eventually able to find the kidnappers vehicle and wreck it, capturing the driver named Snake and they discover a vat of a glowing green substance. A vat that they recognize as the same one that caused their original mutation.
Snake, after Raph threatens to mutate him, leads the boys to the facility where the captives are... and uses the boys bickering as a chance to escape. Leo uses this to trick the crook into thinking that they’re going to plow his van into the place as he conducts a plan to sneak in. All while Roah is an asshole who refuses to listen and outright undermines Leo’s orders. Yeah, Raph is a real jerk during this season. FYI. When Leo shows hesitance about his plan, Splinter tells him of his final confrontation against his rival Oroku Saki, aka The Shredder. It ended in his wife being killed, his house burning down, and his infant daughter nowhere to be found. Well, that won’t be important in any way, shape, or form later! The point being that he lost everything, but gained the boys, easing Leo’s worries about how much is riding on the plan.
So yeah the boys crash the van, Snake gets mutated, the boys break in, fight some guards, and Mikey proves that he isn’t crazy about the aliens.. and then trips an alarm. Smooth Mikey, smooth. They find the captives, that being this version of April O’Neil and her scientist father. Now in most versions, April is an adult woman. Here? She is aged down and is around sixteen years old. We’ll talk more about that later. The bad guys, aka The Kraang, take the captives away and as the boys give chase,t hey are confronted by the mutant Snake... who is a weed monster. Hey, that’s breaking supervillain rules writers! If you have an evil sounding name, that’s what you turn into! Donnie is sent to rescue the O’Neil’s as the other three face Snakeweed... Mikey’s idea, not mine.
The boys eventually defeat Snake via Leo’s direction and mass electrocution while Donnie is able to rescue April, but her father is taken away. April plans to find him however, no matter what it takes with the boys promising to help in whatever way they can. Once home, Leo finds out the complex reasoning for why he was named the leader over everyone else... because he asked. Ming-boggling, right? Well there is actually another reason, but we’ll talk about this in S4. The boys also made the news as their shruriken got found, but come on, what could one tiny news story do that would be bad? Well... being seen by your master’s worst enemy and re-igniting his lust for vengeance might count! Woopsie!
Overall, a solid two parter. It establishes the characters well, has fun fight scenes, the animation is a little dated now but still pretty good, the dialogue is funny, and it does a good job setting up future plotlines while fulfilling it’s own plot. It started 2k12 off on the right foot and was still enjoyable over five years since it’s initial premiere.
The Beginning (Episodes 3-8)
The episodes following the premiere create a steady flow of creating the status quo. You have episodes like Turtle Temper, Metalhead, and Monkey Brains (kinda) that have the boys dealing with the Kraang’s Plan of the Week as they continue their mutagen experiments. It helps with character development and some minor plot progression, such as Raph learning how dangerous his anger can be and Donnie learning to rely on his instincts rather than on his mind 100% of the time. Some are going to want me to comment on the shipping stuff, But I’m gonna save that for later. The biggest issue with these episodes, aside from Monkey Brains, is the Kraang. They are not interesting as villains at all. As great a VA as Nolan North is, the Kraang’s way of talking just gets... annoying. It doesn't help that the threat ultimately becomes either an accidental mutant or Donnie’s robot... well okay a Kraang possessed the later, but it shows that those are more interesting villains than the Kraang themselves and they exist mroe to just have an excuse for a plot. It’s really irking after awhile.
As far as plot goes, it’s mostly your usual ‘Monster of the Week’ stuff. But it has some small things that have a larger impact later. For one, in Monkey Brains, April begins to tap into what looks like some strong emphatic abilities. More on this next season. But due to this, Splinter decides to take April on as a student and train her to be a kunoichi (a female ninja). This will be the largest part of her character for the remainder of the series. April herself... is not utilized as well as she could have been in these early episodes. She’s described as the boys guide to the outside world, and she does serve that in some respects. For example, introducing Mikey to social media in New Friend, Old Enemy to let him make friends without exposing his mutant identity. And in Never Say Xever she takes them to a blind man’s shop so that they can actually experience life topside for once. The issue is we never see April establish bonds with the boys or Splinter after her introduction. In New Friend, Old Enemy she just acts like she’s been friends with the guys for awhile and after showing Mikey the net, doesn’t appear or is even mentioned in the episode again. She disappears after her importance in Metalhead as well, but she is given mroe to work with there at least. I glossed over this when I was watching the show and April does get mroe time with the guys, her relationship with Splinter being one of my favorites. Still, they didn’t do a lot with having April become part of the group or really act on her role as their ‘guide’ and I feel they just wanted to ignore it to get to the other stuff. Which is just a bummer.
So you’re probably wondering about Shredder stuff, right? Well thankfully the Foot Episodes are also the most plot relevant episodes. It starts with New Friend, Old Enemy where Shredder arrives in New York and assigns one of his lieutenants, a famous martial artist named Chris Bradford, to find out about Splinter. The Foot end up encountering the Turtles, with Bradford later using this to manipulate Mikey after accidentally becoming online friends with him. He captures him and use shim as bait to lure out the other three and then follow them to where Splinter is hiding. It fails with the boys using their knowledge of the sewers to literally wash Bradford and his partner, Xever, away. Along with the dangers of meeting people you don’t really know on social media, the episode presents a very unique lesson. In a fight for your life, screw fairness, You fight by any means necessary to stay alive, including fighting dirty. Most shows emphasize on being fair, but this one actually acknowledges that if your life is on the line, you do what it takes to get out alive. It’s a unique message for a kids show and one that I really appreciate.
Next is Never Say Xever where Xever gets to lead the charge. After the boys track down the two and get beat up, Xever receives inlet from the Purple Dragons, who int his version are pretty much a trio of teen thugs. The Turtles fought them off earlier at the shop April took them to, with Leo sparing the leader as an act of mercy. Something that Raph takes umbridge with... as he does with most anything that Leo does in the first half of the series. It’s no surprise that Leo and Raph butt heads, as they do in most series, and it follows their respective arcs. Leo having to deal with being leader as well as realizing that it’s much more pressuring and unforgiving than he thought, while Raph act son his jealousy that Leo got the position even though he’s the better fighter and therefore questioning Leo’s orders or outright just being an asshole for no good reason. But after the shop owner is kidnapped to lure the Turtles out, Leo’s act of mercy ends up saving them as the lead Dragon repays the favor by throwing him back his discarded sword. Which Leo uses to break a water tower to wash the bad guys away again. Angered, The Shredder decides to handle the Turtles himself.
The episodes do a good job in establishing a solid status quo. Bad guy does a thing, one character has their B-Plot to deal with, there’s a clash, the plots intertwine, bad guy gets defeated, and the lesson of the day is learned. A simple routine, but it works here. Plus we get plenty of character establishment and moments which makes you care about them. For example even though Raph is a massive jerk, the end of New Friend, Old Enemy has his comfort Mikey after the deceit and have him see that he’s a good kid who simply got duped as anyone else would. With this being after Raph mocked him wanting to make friends throughout the episode, it helped show that he does have a caring side. Leo frequently has issues with being a leader, such as dealing with Raph and moments like in ITHNiBS where the guys outright refuse to listen to him when he tries to remind them that they’re grounded. Even Splinter has a lot of moments, being a stern but fair parental figure and wise mentor, but is also snarky as Hell. We also see hints to how much the past has affected him, like after April agrees to undergo kunoichi training and leaves the dojo, there’s just a brief moment where he looks down with a forlorn expression. As though wishing that he was telling this to his own MIA daughter. It’s so subtle, but it speaks volumes about his emotional state.
The characters are ultimately what makes these episodes works and what I would say is the strongest part of the series. You are likely going to relate to or like someone from this show and their progression. But now that we have a fully formed status quo, it’s time to shake it up a little bit and have the Turtles experience their first hard dose of reality.
The Escalation (Epsidoes 9-13)
Episode 9 begins as a typical ‘Mutant of the Week’ plot with the guys trying to catch a pigeon mutant that was after April. But when they do, they discover that he was simply trying to deliver a message... from her father. The message warns her to get out of the city due to a mutagen bomb, but she refuses to leave without him. As such,t he Turtles... somehow... find where Mr. O’Neil is and try to save him. While they get him out of the cell and get the location of the bomb, Mr. O’Neil sacrifices himself when the Kraang outnumber them so that the boys can protect April. All while poor April can only watch, helpless to do anything. Ouch...
The Turtles can only go to where the bomb is to disarm it, but things get further complicated when Bradford and Xever attack, wanting payback from before. Fortunately Donnie disarms the bomb and the four corner the two, but Bradford refuse sot go down quietly and stabs the bomb, but all it does is mutate himself and Xever. But ti also washes them away.... again. I should also point out that this point,t he Turtles have gotten incredibly over-confident since they’ve beaten every bad guy so far, feeling unstoppable. So then... Shredder arrives. Yep. And he kicks their shells HARD. Liek he holds no punches, he easily over-powers all four of them and almost stabs Leo int he head. The only reason that they escape is Shredder getting distracted by his now mutated lieutenants. But the boys retreat, badly beaten up and completely demoralized.
The next episode focuses on the fallout. The four are mostly feeling better, but their fears are being escalated by, of all people, Splinter. This is due to the boys nearly getting killed by his long-time rival re-igniting his own trauma and having nightmares over losing them, causing him to again keep them in the sewers and be far more harsh with his training. The only one doing moderately well is April, who gets intel about the Foot planning to destroy the sewers. The Turtles try to stop it, but get pounded by Bradford, who is now a giant dog mutant named Dogpound. This forces April to get the inlet herself, but she gets caught an captured by the Foot. This further brings Leo down, but to his surprise Raph actually encourages him to pull himself together and lead the team. The Turtles manage to both save April and stop the Foot from destroying the sewers with Splinter apologizing for allowing his fears to affect both himself and his sons. Overall, a solid pair of episodes that bring the boys down a bit, finally has all the plots meet somewhere, and deliver a strong message about not letting fear control you or the others around you.
After a filler episode where the only importance is Shredder forcibly recruiting Stockman to his forces, we get some more Kraang stuff with Episode 12. Where we actually show them being dangerous. Shocker, right?! It also introduces us to long-time supporting character within the franchise Leatherhead. Here he is an alligator mutant who the Kraang experimented on and it causes him to have violent fits of rage if he so much as hears the word ‘Kraang’. The Turtles end up saving him when the Kraang try to re-capture him, but find his angry bursts, well... dangerous. But Mikey is able to befriend him and it becomes more clear that LH is actually a rather intelligent, good-hearted mutant who has been put through Hell. He gets run off by Splinter though when one of his trauma-induced bursts causes him to attack the boys, forcing the rat master to intervene. Mikey, and by proxy the other three, give chase to an old subway car where LH reveals how the Kraang took him to their home, Dimension X, and experimented on him. He escaped and also took their Power Cell, cutting them off form Dimension X, in hopes of saving humanity from them. The Kraang want it back and act like a zombie swarm as they break through the car. LH fights them off, leaving the Power Cell in the Turtles care.
While Episode 11 sucks (to put it simply Leo and Raph are overbearing assholes while Donnie and Mikey are just made to be as weak as possible), the other three do a good job at making the villains more solid threats. Shredder was built up as intimidating and powerful, and boy did he deliver. The Turtles face their first major loss and have to deal with the fallout, Leo especially dealing with his first real failure as a leader. Even the Kraang come off as a scarier hivemind and we get mroe stuff on them, like Dimension X and their plans to mutate the Earth. Add that with a strong supporting character like Leatherhead, who is understandably traumatized but is an intelligent being who is trying to prevent others form suffering like him. and it helps make some strong episodes.
The first half of the season concludes with the 13th episodes... that aired as the 14th for some reason. But I’m going in order of my DVD’s and this was after Episode 12, so it’s what I’m going with. It both concludes a lot and opens up a lot for the future. The episode I am talking about is, of course New Girl in Town.
TBC in Part Two....

Okay, I got one: Mikey and April doing a slumber party. Shenanigans.
okay so i actually tried writing this a few times when i was without my computer for two months but then completely forgot about it. i’m sorry for the wait and hope it was worth it. fic under the cut! tumblr is fucky and didn’t space it correctly so heres an ao3 link
April lovedher new friends, how could she not? They had saved her life, helped her findher father, taught her to protect herself, trained her as one of their own, befriended her in a time she had felt so alone, and became family to them. Theywere a little strange sure, but they were her’s. Leonardo was like a loveableolder brother, sort of nerdy but a welcome and reassuring presence. Raphael wasan enthusiastic and passionate brother, a little intense but a great sparringpartner. Donatello was smart, a genius even, sure she didn’t return hisfeelings and saw him more as family, but she still cared about him. (Besidesshe was still struggling to deal with her crush on her best friend Irma.)Michelangelo however, she felt closest to. He was fun and like a ray ofsunshine despite the darkness of the sewers. He was talented and the sweetyounger brother you always wanted to have, mischief and pranks aside. So, whenMikey had nervously asked her if she wanted to have a sleepover with him likepeople always did in tv shows he’d watch, she jumped at the chance, grinningwildly. So, Aprilhad told her father she was sleeping over at a friend’s house, loaded down withsome face masks and other fun sleepover supplies (nontoxic to mutant turtles ofcourse, she had done her own research and had asked Donnie to make sure). Sure, she had gone all out but this was Mikey, he was like a baby brother and he hadnever had a human friend or a sleepover. So, it became April’s mission to makethis the best sleepover ever. The turtles had offered to meet her and walk herto the lair, but she insisted she was okay, feeling confident with her weaponof choice the Tessan and a large can of pepper spray. After ashort trip through the sewers she arrived in the abandoned subway station, leaping over the turnstiles. April knew the others already knew she was here, from Donnie’s security cameras no doubt. Her suspicions were confirmed when anexcited shriek of “APRIL!!” sounded the room and she was pulled into anenthusiastic hug. She laughed and returned the hug, jeez she had gotten a lotstronger since training to be a kunoichi but wow the turtles were strong. “Hi Mikey! Are you prepared for your first and best sleepover ever?” She asked, faking a serious tone as her grinning companion released her from his hug trap.“Hell yeah I am!” Mikey shouted, barely containing his excitement. An annoyed “Language.” came from beloved stick in the mud older brother Leofrom the kitchen. April and Mikey exchanged looks, muffling their giggles. “Right sorry, I meant shell yeah I am!” He shouted again. April snorted atMikey’s attempt to recover from cursing. He took her hand and enthusiasticallylead her to his room, she waved to Leo as they passed by the kitchen, havingalready briefed the three brothers and Sensei on her sleepover plans.April letout a low and impressed whistle upon seeing Mikey’s room, he had cleaned up forher, aww. There were no left-over pizza slices or boxes left around! MasterSplinter couldn’t even get Mikey to clean his room, she kind of felt honored. The orange mask clad turtle noticed her expression and grinned, pretty proud ofhimself, “I know right? That’s how hyped I am.” April snickered and pulled outher duffle bag which had been filled to the brim with fun sleepover things todo, sure it was kind of middle school of her but hey Mikey has never done thisbefore, so she was pulling out all the stops. “Okay so I know you like makeup and pretty stuff like that, so I grabbed someof my makeup kits from when I was younger and some stuff Irma left at my house.I also got facemasks and nail polish along with some of those sleepover gamesmy dad got for me to get to know my friends with. Sound good?” She asked, pulling out some of the supplies, sure she wasn’t that into makeup and all thatbut upon seeing the amount of excited emojis Mikey had sent upon hearing shehad stuff like that in the group chat she just had to bring some. Mikey openedhis mouth to ask a question, but April beat him to it, “And yeah everything is mutantturtle safe I already asked Donnie about it, we don’t want your skin gettingfucky again.” Mikey nodded satisfied with the answer, shuddering at the thoughtof his shellacne. He brightened again, “Sounds awesome! Let’s do this!” April grinned and the funbegan. They put on some cheesy movie Mikey had rented, vowing to watch the actionflick that April had brought afterwards. She was now demonstrating how to paintnails on Mikey’s, thankfully since he had less fingers than she did it got donefaster. When April had asked what colors Mikey answered, blue, red, and purple. She arched an eyebrow at him, a smile on her face, it was no wonder why he hadchosen those colors. Mikey grinned, “Okay they’reaesthetically pleasing colors but I also love my dumb brothers.” He retorted, pretending to pout but not bothering to fully mask his smile. April rolled hereyes with a grin and finished up painting his nails. “Whatdya think?” She asked, she wasn’t the best with painting nails, but shehad nail polish remover packed and cleaned up her mistakes. Michelangelo beamed, “Oooh fancy I approve.” He said in a fake haughty tone ofvoice. April snickered and moved on to his toes, “Once they dry you can do mine if youwant.” She offered, Mikey nodded excitedly. After finishing she held out herhand for her friend to paint, trusting him to do a good job since he was themost artistic of the turtles after all. (Besides she would’ve let him do iteven if he couldn’t paint for shit.) “What colordyou want?” He asked. April thought for a moment and shrugged, “Surprise me.” Mikey grinned and gotto work as April turned her attention back towards the movie, assuring Mikeyshe wouldn’t peak. An enthusiastic “Ta-da!” distracted her from the movie, shelooked down at her nails. She smiled softly, her heart effectively warmed. Thecolors Mikey had chosen were blue, red, purple, orange, and yellow. Judgingfrom the turtle’s expression and her regular outfit, yellow represented her. “Y’know cause you’re like an honorary Hamato now…” He said softly, Aprilblinked rapidly, a grin spreading across her face. “I love it.” She said pulling him into a hug.Mikey giggled, “Hey c’mon don’t mess up my nails!” He complained, obviouslyjoking. The girl began to laugh, “You sound like Irma.” Mikey began to paint her toes when his grin became catlike, “Ooh Irma huh? Is she the goth girl you arealways making goo-goo eyes at whenever we were shadowing you to make sure youwere safe from the Kraang?” He asked, a smug tone in his voice as if he alreadyknew the answer. April’s face reddened, and she resisted the instinctive urgeto kick her friend in the face and bolt.“W-what?! No!” She exclaimed, hiding her flushed face with her still dryinghands.Mikey made a pouting noise sounding like a kicked puppy, “C’mon Apriillllllll, you’re a Hamato nowwww you gotta tell me, your sweet innocent baby brother.” Heprotested. April sent a mock glare at him, jeez now she knew why Mikey had hisolder brothers wrapped around his finger. She sighed, “Okay one, pulling the family card like that is cold. Two, you areanything but innocent. Three, stop grinning like that. Four, y-yeah that’s her…She’s so cute Mikey you don’t understand!”He finished painting her toes looking satisfied with his handiwork before leaningin close, “Tell me everything.” He replied, a serious expression on his face, poorly masking his smug grin. After a long-winded explanation of just how pretty Irma’s eyes were and abouthow they met, and Irma’s kissable lips April let out a loud groan. “I’m so gayMikester, I don’t even know my sexuality yet but I’m so gay.”Mikey giggled, bumping her shoulder reassuringly with his, “Don’t worry aboutit, Leo practically has a heart attack every time he sees a cute boy on patroland he still claims he’s straight. You’ll figure it out.” He reassured. April looked up at him from where he was doing her makeup, armed with aneyeshadow brush. “How’d you get so wise?”“I took a bunch of quizzes on BuzzFeed, I’m pan ace. Close your eyes.” Hereplied, she complied and closed her eyes, wrinkling her nose as she felt thepowder tickle her eyelids. After he finished she looked up again, “Huh, cool. I had no idea.” Mikey grinned, posing almost dramatically, added with the fact she had alreadydone his makeup he looked pretty great. “Of course you didn’t, I’m like anonion. I got layers.” He replied, struggling to keep a serious expression onhis face.April groaned loudly, “You did. Not. Just quote Shrek. Mikey no stop laughingI’m gonna pepper spray you.” She said deadpan, both knowing she was joking.Mikey stuck a defiant tongue out at her. He brightened, “Wait I just had two, (2) great ideas. First, you take someselfies and send them to Irma. And second, we water balloon my poorunsuspecting brothers.”April grinned widely, “Let’s do it.”After taking some pictures together and a few of just themselves April sentsome to Irma. They then loaded up on water balloons, Mikey already having abunch prefilled. She didn’t ask why, he was Doctor Prankenstein after all. Theysnuck out into the lair, keeping their feet light with ease given they both hadsome degree of ninja training. Raph was in the dojo practicing getting out someenergy, Donnie was in the lab, Leo was in the kitchen making tea. “Okay, to get away with an assault of this scale all at once we gotta getDonnie first, he might help since you are on my side. Then we gotta get Raphand we have to flip him, he’ll be so impressed he won’t yell. Then we get Leo,he’ll be expecting my attack with big bro instincts so you gotta get him withyours.” Mikey informed just above a whisper, April nodded seriously. They entered the lab, Donnie was working on something by the algae pool. Theduo had entered via the garage entrance rather than the clunky metal door of thelair hoping to not alert Donnie. He didn’t look up, “Oh hey Mikey I’m justcollecting some sampl- “Donatello began to say before being interrupted by awater balloon colliding with his shell, surprising him and sending him tumblinginto the pool. April let out a startled and soft laugh,“Sorry Don, do us a favor and don’t tell?” She asked, pulling him from thepool. Donnie looked bewildered and was dripping wet, he grabbed a towel from adesk, having fallen in the pool before. He opened his mouth as if to complain before catching a glimpse of the pleadingand gleeful look on April’s face before shutting it and sighing, “Okay but onlyif you are getting Raph too.”Mikey grinned wickedly, “Of course.” They slipped into the dojo, Raph was jamming out to some loud rock music withhis earbuds and hadn’t heard them come in. They gave two quick thumbs up toDonnie who was waiting in the living room with an exasperated expression. Mikeynodded to April wordlessly saying it was her turn and she pulled back and flungthe water balloon to Raph’s shell. Before he had time to react they rushedforward and grabbed both of his arms, Mikey’s leg slipping out and trippingRaph’s using the momentum to flip him over both of their shoulders. He lookedup at them stunned, taking out his earbuds. “…Nice shot.” He said surprised.Mikey and April grinned and high-fived.Last was Leo, but he was going to be the most difficult. Mikey had complainedin the past that Leo had some crazy way of telling every time he was going topull a prank, he’d bested him before but never all three of his brothers in onenight. With April’s help he was going down. Leo was sipping his tea, his Space Heroes marathon just ended so now he wasrelaxing. He swore he heard something, he frowned, narrowing his eyes andunconsciously slipped into a defensive stance. A water balloon whizzed towardshim, he dodged narrowly, it splattering on the wall behind him. “Mikeeeeeeey.” He said in his annoying big brother tone. Suddenly a waterballoon came from the ceiling and landed dead center on his plastron. He made asurprised noise as April and Mikey leaped down from the rafters they hadclimbed in order to get the drop on him, both incredibly proud of themselves.“How- how did you?” He began to ask, slightly incredulous and a littleimpressed. “We’ll never tell! Just another shocking attack by the hands of DoctorPrankenstein and Lady Pranksalot!” Mikey yelled loudly, a wide and satisfiedgrin on his face. April giggled, struggling not to burst into laughter. Donnieand Raph filed in, both still damp before pulling out a pizza from the fridgeand placing it in the microwave.Leo sighed, a fondly exasperated look on his face. “Nice job enlisting April inyour plan.” He scanned their smug faces for a second before frowning inconfusion. “Are… Are you both wearing makeup?” He asked.Mikey and April nodded, “Yeah bro makeovers are a huge part of sleepovers, duh.”Mikey replied, stealing a spare slice of pizza that had just been removed fromthe microwave, not caring the cheese slightly burned his fingers.Leo thought for a moment, “Can… Can you do mine?” The Hamatos sans Splinter who retired to bed early were all lounging on thecouch, wearing facemasks having removed their makeup after plenty ofshenanigans. April and Mikey wordlessly fist bumped, satisfied that they haddragged the others into their fun. Raph grumbled, “I can’t believe you both talked me into this.”Donnie who was blowing on his freshly painted nails to dry them looked over athim, rolling his eyes. “Raph please the second Mikey said facemasks youinsisted on trying some out. Your skincare routine is almost as intense as Leo’s.”The turtle in question made an offended noise at the teasing of his skincare.April snickered, normally she dreaded this kind of thing and avoided sleepoverswhenever possible but with the turtles she didn’t mind and if it meant spendingtime with them all aside from missions and training she’d jump at the chance todo it again. She sighed contently, feeling at home in the abandoned subwaystation of all places surrounded by the mutants who had become her family.
